Barcelona don't realise they can get Philippe Coutinho from Liverpool for £147m - Hunter

That's the damning opinion of Spanish football expert Graham Hunter. Coutinho is wanted by the Nou Camp club and he's desperate for a transfer.

But with the clock ticking and time running out to seal a move, a Liverpool exit for Coutinho looks highly unlikely.

Hunter said on the Transfer Window podcast: "I think they (Barcelona) are less clear on the idea that Coutinho can go for €160m, than they should be. "I think they are worried it may not happen.

"What is in doubt is that Liverpool clearly have the ability to say 'sorry, your price might be right, but we didn't get our man (to replace him), so he's not coming.

"Right now, Barcelona are looking to see if they can go back to (Juventus star Paulo) Dybala, or (Monaco's Thomas) Lemar. "The two they think they can get are Coutinho and Angel Di Maria.".

Liverpool have publicly insisted Coutinho will NOT be sold this summer. But fellow Transfer Window podcast guest Duncan Castles claims it's a different case behind the scenes.

"What Philippe Coutinho has been told is that there is an agreement in place between Barcelona and Liverpool for him to join Barcelona, Castles said.

"The fee will be a potential total of €160m (£147m) - some of that performance-related variables - so FSG have got the price that they asked for several weeks ago in negotiations that they kept secret.

And the hold-off is to allow Liverpool time to sign replacements for Coutinho and put other guys into the team which weve seen starting to happen." Despite Castles' claim, Starsport understand there is NO chance of Coutinho leaving Liverpool today.

Barcelona have extra time to complete a deal with the Spanish window not closing until tomorrow, although the Reds stance is no deal will be done.

Why Neck Bands can Recur after a Neck Lift, and its Minimally Invasive to Full Surgical Treatments - Duration: 7:26.

Thank you for your question.

You submitted several photos and you provide in your question a history where you underwent

a neck lift procedure as well as some body procedures but specifically a necklift with

incisions behind the ear and under the chin 3 months prior.

And you've noticed a band forming that your surgeon from Mexico acknowledges.

And you are asking what you can do as opposed to going back to Mexico to have a revision

surgery done.

And again, this is 3 months later.

Well, I can certainly share with you my knowledge and experience when it comes to this type

of issue.

A little bit of background, I'm a Board-certified cosmetic surgeon and Fellowship-trained oculofacial

plastic and reconstructive surgeon.

I have been in practice in Manhattan and Long Island for over 20 years.

Face lifting and neck lifting has been a very significant part of my practice for many years.

And certainly, as time has transpired and evolution of different devices and techniques

and injectables have come along, I have adjusted and modified accordingly to try and help my

patients in the predictable and practical way when it comes to this type of desire to

improve the neck area.

So, to begin with, when we talk about the neck procedure, I would suspect that if you

had a band like this before the surgery that the incision under your chin was used by your

doctor to do a procedure called a platysmaplasty.

And that's a procedure where the edges of the platysma muscle which appear to be separated

are sutured together and brought together to create a nice neck angle.

And then the neck lifting procedure, the platysma from the back is tightened so you get a nice

sharp angle.

One of the challenges of neck lifting procedures and this neck banding that occurs is the possibility

of recurrence.

And not a single surgeon who does this type of surgery would not honestly acknowledge

that recurrences happen more frequently than they would like or they would ever predict.

And the reason is that as surgeons, we are essentially trained to repair and we do that.

We find the edges of the muscle and meticulously suture them together and do everything in

the right way and we watch our colleagues who demonstrate these procedures in live surgery

events and meetings, etc.

But a lot of times, these bands occur.

One of the reasons I feel is that the muscle itself is very thin.

So even when the sutures are placed, the muscles can separate and you can get a detachment.

Or the muscle can just end up relaxing in a way that results in a recurrence of the

band.

There are a lot of reasons for that to occur.

Now when you've already had the skin elevated and you're down to this platysmal band which

is again the platysma muscle, you can consider options to try that are less invasive first.

You can start with a neurotoxin like Botox®.

Botox® can relax this muscle and help improve the appearance of the band.

If you want to get a little bit more aggressive, there is a technique called suture suspension

where the muscle and the tissue surrounding it is elevated through little openings made

in the skin.

It's not a thread lift but it's a similar idea where the platysma is elevated and sutured

behind the ear in a strategic way to see if that can help with that appearance.

And of course, you could try and undergo a revision surgery where the platysma is opened,

the platysmal band can be cut, it can be re-sutured etc.

So you can have a revisional surgery done to try to address that band specifically.

There are pros and cons to all these techniques but I think my suggestion of doing something

in a minimally invasive to more invasive approach might be easier logistically for you.

This is a challenge and unfortunately, it's one of the realities of this type of surgery.

And so, I think that you can visit local cosmetic surgeons who perform this type of surgery

to get an informed opinion.

Certainly, examination will help where you can make some movement and actions and see

how that muscle responds.

And then you can decide what you would like to do.

But I think that sometimes people will suggest like a thermal energy device and I would dissuade

you.

I don't think a thermal energy device would end up shrinking the skin in the neck well

enough to push back a muscular band.

I think that probably the closest to getting to where you want without surgery would be

something like Botox® and that can be done with some consistency.

So I hope that was helpful, I wish you the best of luck and thank you for your question.

How PRP Alone is Proven to Stimulate Hair Growth, but Remains Unpredictable and can be Improved - Duration: 11:23.

Thank you for your question.

You submitted a question without a photo and you're asking this question, is your PRP

working. And you describe in the text of your question that you had suddenly noticed significant

hair thinning. And that you went ahead with the PRP treatment and then you underwent a

second one. And then at the time you submitted this question, you had undergone a third one.

You feel that your progress photos do not show improvement. In fact, it appears that

you were getting worse. So you're also asking should this be working out this way, will

this PRP stimulate hair growth, should it already have an effect on your hair growth.

Well, I can certainly help you understand how I counsel patients who have hair loss

in my practice and give you a sense of where this modality has a role and in what kind

of strategy is employed. A little bit of background, I'm a Board-certified cosmetic surgeon and

Fellowship-trained oculofacial plastic and reconstructive surgeon. I have been in practice

in Manhattan and Long Island for over 20 years. Hair transplant and managing hair loss has

been a very big part of my practice. In fact, I'm the founder of TrichoStem™ Hair Regeneration

Centers, a system that we developed starting about 7 years ago using PRP and Acellular

matrix to help men and women with hair loss, typically genetic pattern hair loss non-surgically

and leveraging this concept of stem cell based restoration of hair growth going into details

further.

To begin with, the current state of knowledge and slow but steady acceptance of PRP as a

modality for hair loss, I feel like there are still a lot of questions that do remain

unresolved and in medicine, that is often the reality. There are many things that clinically

have benefit where at the basic science level, it is still difficult to fully explain the

cause and effect and predictability. So the art of clinical medicine of course is to treat,

observe and extrapolate based on information and experience.

Well, to go back to what we did with our procedure Hair Regeneration, approximately 7 years ago

when we were doing a lot of transplants, we were using a combination of platelet-rich

plasma and Acellular matrix which is a wound healing material to help improve the graft

survival as well as improving the healing of the donor area, both of which we were always

challenges of hair transplant. Well, a beneficial side-effect was that thinning hair appears

to grow thicker. And that thinning hair that grew thicker occurred long after the procedure

was completed and the material was placed.

So, we took it upon ourselves to explore the opportunity to see if we can have a process

where we can treat hair thinning with a non-surgical approach rather than allow the hair to go

away and then keep doing transplants. Well, to make the long story short, we were very

successful with this. We developed Hair Regeneration and the company called TrichoStem™ Hair

Regeneration. We treat patients from all over the world and what that has met is that we

have so much volume of patients with a wide range of ages and conditions such that I've

been able to really define different sub groups of people on how they respond. Globally speaking,

that the overwhelming majority of our patients have benefit from this treatment sustainable

for 5 years and that is for both men and women. Now within these groups however, there are

going to be certain groups of patients who have more aggressive hair loss patterns. Generally

speaking, these tend to be younger people who have had an early onset so maybe teens

and 20s and who have very rapid progression.

Now when we think about that scenario, we also have to look at what are the known associated

causes or interventions that are available to medically treat hair loss. Well, there

is finasteride, an oral drug that is a DHT blocker of dihydrotestosterone. And then there's

minoxidil. When we think about hair loss, it's very important to understand that hair

loss is still a progressive condition and regardless of what modalities are being used,

there is no current cure for genetic pattern hair loss. There are strategies to slow it

down and prolong the lifespan of the hair and therefore provide longer coverage as well

as the surgical strategy which is to place grafts of hair in places that need in that

area to provide coverage. So it gets down to basically providing coverage.

Now, one of the things that I find that a lot of people who are relatively new to this

world of stem cell based hair loss treatment is that when you don't really do hair loss

management as a long-term strategy, a lot of times people are taking a shotgun approach.

And I'm not saying this is the situation for you but a lot of people who are relatively

new to this are getting excited because they go to meetings, they see good results with

PRP and they decide that they're going to add that to their practice. And then when

people are not doing well, they shrug their shoulders.

The challenge with hair loss management is understanding really what the likely prognosis

is for individuals with a clinical picture. Now you describe a scenario where you had

suddenly had significant thinning. Well, that is unusual unless it's more of typically

the awareness of significant thinning. There's a difference. There's the awareness of significant

thinning as often occurs when people think they have more hair than they do and then

suddenly they realize, wow, they barely have any scalp coverage or they get a view of the

top of their head from a mirror or a photo or something and then feel like, "Oh, suddenly

I lost my hair." A lot of times it has been progressing along but because their view when

they look at the mirror, they can only see a frontal hairline and they look pretty good,

they don't realize how much hair they've lost.

So that being said, when you think about this type of steady downward progression, I would

say that it's important to at least consider, if you're male, to consider a DHT blocker.

Again, without more details about your clinical picture and a clinical picture that I rely

on is age of onset, current age, degree of hair loss, history of other interventions

and the effectiveness of other interventions. The reality is of course there is only a finite

small number of interventions.

So to answer the question about whether or not the PRP is really working requires a more

global detail of your clinical situation. I think that the one thing that I can add

to this that might be helpful to you to ask your physician is whether or not it is advisable

to start adding DHT blocker like finasteride to try to reduce the effect of DHT on your

hair. If you have male pattern hair loss and it is 95% of hair loss, it's genetic pattern

loss then you might be in a situation where a DHT blocker can help improve the longevity

of the hair follicles and maybe give the PRP an opportunity to actually have an effective

stimulatory effect. Again, this comes from a lot of experience and many patients are

reviewing our photos very carefully again, almost 7 years of doing this and treating

patients all over the world. So I think it's worthwhile to discuss this with your doctor

and learn a little about their experience with medical and surgical treatment of hair

loss and take it from there.

So I hope that was helpful, I wish you the best of luck and thank you for your question.

How Can You Reach Your Target Audience & Multiply It 100 Fold - Video 3 - Duration: 3:46.

In this Video, which is Video 3 of our Video Series "How You Can Reach Your Target Audience

& Multiply It 100 Fold", I want to share with you...

The Second Traffic Multiplier Of Content Marketing is...

Platform.

If you haven't watched Video 1 or Video 2, where we share a quick update on where things

are at with online marketing, and what's actually working today...

Plus, the First Traffic Multiplier of Content Marketing, click the links below and watch

Video 1 & 2 so you'll understand how powerful this strategy is in multiplying your audience.

A lot of people are stuck in the mindset of putting their content up on their own website

or blog, and then trying to attract people to come to their site.

This might have worked five years ago, but these days you need to adopt a different mindset.

And the mindset you need to adopt is to: GO WHERE THE PEOPLE ARE...

It used to be that everyone started their search for information online by going to

a search engine like Google, but these days, more and more people are bypassing the search

engines and going straight to sites like YouTube, or Pinterest to find the information they

are looking for.

What this means is that you need to deploy your content to as many different platforms

as possible, and instead of just posting links back to your website, you need to be a "native

citizen" of each platform.

This means you should optimize your content for each platform.

For example, instead of posting a link in Facebook to your YouTube video, you should

take the time to upload your video directly to Facebook so that you maximize the impact

of your content on that particular platform.

So which platforms should you target?

Well, the Big 3 are Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter, but it is also very important to

distribute your content to new and emerging platforms.

Here's why...

When a platform is new, there is a lot more opportunity available because there is usually

a vacuum of content.

You therefore have a better chance to establish yourself on a new platform because initially

you won't be competing with millions of people.

The other important factor is that these new platforms often grow exponentially, so if

you can get established early, you can often ride the rising tide and grow your audience

exponentially as the platform itself expands and becomes more popular.

So in addition to Facebook, YouTube and Twitter, you should also be looking at Pinterest, Instagram,

Slideshare, LinkedIn, Google Plus, iTunes Audio Podcast, iTunes Video Podcast, Soundcloud

and any new and emerging platforms you hear about.

Video 4 in this series will outline the Third Traffic Multiplier of Content Marketing.

*Polêmica!!!!!!! * - Mulher não pode ser Pastora? Can a woman be a shepherd? Pastor Sergio Junior - Duration: 9:39.

hello good morning peace of the Lord, I every time, and every week we have a

we have a course for church workers evangelical ministry Emanuel, the second

Monday Night we make a one caught this week

and then continue with a handout of education for future

missionaries, all pastors evangelists, and so on

and once again this week as each once every week, and came a

matter very blessed very good for We treat for us to give our endorsement

this time is was about female pastor ministry

opposed to a kind of empire feminist in some places in the world

It is is developing in church outside the church also

about the pastoral ministry female could already say so

without lowering the concepts of the arguments I understand that and when we fall

within the sexist merit is a argument rough, pimp, biased and

discriminatory, discriminative, separatist and many other adjectives

so what I can say about it on this subject that I see coming

of frantic overwhelming way in Internet

this outbreak of this matter for me is very basic, to me

sorry but it is very very very foul little me is when infima

compared to the ministry of Jesus then the Christ of intent

one of the main arguments that contradict or oppose

female pastor ministry the attribute that jesus was not separated

a woman and not apostola sees no jesus apostle even

Paulo is giving despite speaking very fondly of

some women but he would not give not the Bible or not by respauda

Because of this because you do not see this resourcefulness church

primitive in the same dispersion expansion in Europe and Asia by the

Apostle Paul did not see any palpable tacit indication instructive

doctrine that select a woman as a pastor or

that the pastoral ministry for woman

Now the first thing first we need to analyze is that messages

of each religion it may or may not suit I can say

the culture of a local culture of a region of a country, for example:

of course if you are evangelical and you enter the country asia, the country

the east more or less that is active macho culture

virtually impossible for a woman Pastor is impossible

the Bible is so beautiful is so wonderful that it fits in

in the countries of religions quite severe and rigid

it fits in and it supports it need not require a change

that culture if the man wants to be saved and he understands that the woman does not

You can shepherd it is but this is for an oriental culture

we in Western culture we have Judeo-Christian Hellenistic heritage

our culture is based on this mixture the Judeo-Christian culture with Hellenism

They formed the culture of the West

the Brazil and such and time passes we're getting more

Corinthians 2:16 Christ's mind and we understand that certain things will

influence and will result in barriers will cause barriers and barriers

would be insurmountable if this estendesem a large scale

so it's something I believe I, Pastor Sergio Junior I believe it is very rough compared to

gospel message now for you to base biblically

looks at Galatians 3:28 if I'm not getting old galatas

3:28 speaks in the following manner mode or so that there is no more nor Greek in

Jewish'm talking about dissension not more this separation right levels

people jesus this class had already given in

john 4 there is when talking to aa Samaritan woman so that there is no

more neither Greek nor Jew or is not there is no difference between these two

people now are all one, We are one

ie Greek and Jew no more, so that there is no more nor free nor

these are slave or stigmas old no longer exist

they were overtaken by cumulated expiry of the law

then all these details that were more separatists

they were scattered and destroyed they were not destroyed hibernated

because of the wonderful grace of Message of the Cross Gospel message

so if you see this text Galatians 3:28

he said that, he makes this finitude .... the distinction would be best the best

placement is the finitude of justice there is no more nor Greek

neither Jews no longer exists or servant nor free and there is no more and no man * *

or * woman * then you notice that by these details

the apostle Paul in a vision he received jesus I believe that the vision

more correct but is slimmer for days current this breadth of vision of the mind

dismissal is untying any order paraphernalia

separatist discriminatory in presence of God

jesus's gospel is the light Word of the Lord, Jesus said that

I do not know if that does not fail me I nail, the word that I tell you is spirit

and then there is life these dichotomies man and woman

these gender barriers this is something for little people, people

that did not receive the gospel so if you received the gospel you

yes approves the pastoral ministry is female

I do not approve of, I personally I do not approve is a movement

feminist gospel, is a movement that join a church where women

to command that have an aversion to male leadership presence is

this male presence bothers when the heart of feminist woman

but when the woman's heart she has is a wife she already is someone who

understands the family of standards then already has respect,

so I do not believe and can even admit some rare occasions

I do not believe is the ministry female pastoral without junction

without the cover of pastoral ministry male with no one there to give

support in times especially in moments of decision that can not be

emotional that they can not be signed with the heart but with reason

it is also the time to show force

would not top would not be legal for a one Pastor is with that momentum

command, may be a source sexist but it is not would not be a

good representation for this women's ministry this church

she does not have a body, if it has no male directors, she has no men

there in charge in church or aid then the command is only that this

I would do this addendum but I do believe you want

woman of God is you are also a man of God, heal your mind

to heal and understand that the gospel of Christ can not be delimited

issues as tiny as this, OK good?

God bless you, this was a word on the female pastoral ministry God

Bless

Can The Trackhawk Replace Your Sports Car? - Duration: 3:11.

What's up guys? It's Trav with Ideal Cars and today we're talking SUVs

Specifically performance ones. So maybe not everyone around the country

is feeling this, but in this state anyway we're in Washington the economy seems to

be doing a bit better than it has been over the last few years - and as a result

people are buying new cars. Not just new cars but SUVs. Performance SUVs in

particular. More and more manufacturers are getting into the SUV game Bentley

has invent egga rolls royce has their new SUV the it's the the Cullinan Jaguar

makes the F pace you've got the people that have been around for a while jeep

jeeps always been a big one now they make the SRT the Grand Cherokee is

better than it's ever been you've got the q5 in the sq5 the new q7

of course you can't forget the Range Rover Sport the BMW x5m or x6 M the AMG

line of SUVs from Mercedes and let's not forget the truck that arguably started

it all the GMC Typhoon oh and I suppose we should give a mention to the machine

that along with the Boxster made Porsche the most profitable manufacturer in the

industry the VW toured the Porsche Cayenne look

the point is every manufacturer is trying to build an SUV these days and

most of them are trying to build a performance version the question is why

is driving a performance SUV actually any fun well the consensus is well yeah

it can be but it depends on the car now Jeep just released the brand new 2018

Grand Cherokee track honk and it's been dubbed by some to be America's most

practical supercar now the first fast Jeep came about two decades ago in 1998

with the 5.9 liter Grand Cherokee and it was able to do 0 to 60 in less than 7

seconds which for an SUV at the time was unheard of this new one though gets the

6.2 liter v8 out of the Hellcat and it makes 707 horsepower it'll do 180 miles

an hour and it goes 0 to 60 and only 3 and a half seconds that's insane

now we haven't driven one yet but I'm sure it's an absolute animal to blast

around it the question is though why would you really want one of these I

mean it's not gonna be as fun to drive as a supercar probably it's not as

efficient as just a daily driver most people's daily drivers

anyway and while yes the luxury is there it still probably doesn't compete with

something like the BMW 7-series Lda 8 or Mercedes S Class now don't get me wrong

I love a powerful SUV or truck just as much as the next guy but do you really

need one does it actually make more sense to have something like the track

clock compared to say a sports car and a regular SUV or a sports car and a pickup

truck instead I don't know I'm just not convinced that having a track inspired

SUV really makes all that much sense let us know your thoughts in the comments

You See What Others Can't: 8 Signs That You Are Highly Sensitive to Energy - Duration: 5:08.

You See What Others Can't: 8 Signs That You Are Highly Sensitive to Energy

Every day, more and more people realize that they fall in the category of people with empathy (compassion),

highly sensitive to energy and emotions of the environment.

Empathetic person is a person who has the ability to grasp the mental and emotional states of others.

These people have a high social intelligence and are very good at helping others to solve their problems.

Being in a position to recognize that you are sensitive to energy is important,

because we often think that what we are dealing with and feeling was created originally in us.

What if some of our thought, emotions and feelings are from the people who are in the same room with us?

Or from the people who are close to us?

Here are 8 common characteristics that empathetic and energy – sensitive people have:

You Feel Other People's Emotions, Even When They Aren't Around

If you are an empathetic person, you can pick up the energy field of others even when they are not around you.

They can be on the other side of the city or the country, but you are still able to pick up their emotions.

For someone who is sensitive to energy , it is important to have a habit to ask themselves: – "Are these feeling mine?"

You can save yourself from a lot of suffering if you can recognize whether you are feeling bad because of someone

else's energy field or because of your own.

You Feel Overwhelmed in Crowded Places

You prefer small crowds or being alone rather than being in a large groups of people where you can take all the

negativity of others upon yourself.

You Are Sensitive To Light, Sounds, Smells And Touches

You don't like bright lights and you have a sharp sense of taste, touch and smell.

Being empathetic means that your mind and body are connected and that by nature makes you more sensitive to all

energies in general, even electromagnetic energy and sensory information.

You Know Things, You Have No Proof for

You just "know" things, that you have no logical proof for.

In other words, you have a very strong intuition and you are able to interpret things which gives you insight into

things that other people cannot see.

If you are sensitive to energy, you may be able to look at someone, and see if they are good or bad,

and whether they should be avoided.

Maybe you have told your friends that you had a bad feeling about their partner and later you have found out that they

had cheated.

People Tell You That You Are Too Sensitive

People around you tell you that you are too sensitive.

You feel more, think more and experience the feelings on a deeper level than most people.

You Know When People Are Lying to You

You can read body language very well, you are also able to have mental image of emotions and psychological states of

others.

When people lie to you, you can notice the change in their energy field and the tone of their voice.

You know that they know that they are lying and you have a good idea of what exactly is happening within their energy

field.

Being empathetic gives you a strong bulls**t detector.

It's Hard for You to Watch Violence On TV

From time to time you are feeling bad when watching violence on TVs or in the movies,

since you are a person who puts itself in a position of others and you often think what it would be like if you were

experiencing something similar.

Although this is just an act, you are launched into the psychological and emotional space as it was happening in real

life.

You Instinctively Avoid Energy Vampires

You avoid people and relationship with people that are sucking the energy out of you.

Since you have had experiences with energy vampires in the past, you know how to identify them.

Your energy field is developing a kind of a shield and instinctively prevents you from meeting with them.

Living as an empath is not an easy thing to do, especially if you are living as an empath with victim mentality which

means putting the keys of your heart in other people's hands.

However, you are more than an energy sponge.

You have power, will and choice.

Do not be afraid to use that power and take back the control of your energy field.

How Can I Ride In Sand...Without A Fatbike? | Ask GMBN Anything About Mountain Biking - Duration: 12:21.

- Welcome to this weeks Ask, the Show,

where we try and answer all your questions about

mountain biking because we are two experts.

Well definitely one of them.

Right now I'm going to start off

with this question for you actually.

And it's from Shile

and they say,

can you do an interview with Neil?

One good video to talk about what happened

with your accident in the crash?

Everything what lead up to it?

And how you're doing and

some tips for recovery that's a good idea.

- Well I'm doing all right thanks.

Five weeks ago I crashed my road bike

into a car.

Went around the corner too fast

and I broke my ankle,

broke my jaw,

had bleeding on the brain,

knocked all my teeth in.

I got a gum thing on.

My ankle's doing good.

I can peddle a bike a little bit.

- You're waddling around very well.

- Getting on alright on my feet.

- But I think an in depth video about that

and talking about how it recovers is actually

a really good idea.

It's a good suggestion.

Something we could maybe do.

- I've had a few injuries.

(mumbles)

Rehabbed my shoulder through lots of things in the gym

and I just started doing that with

(mumbles)

It's an important thing to do when you get injured.

- Absolutely good question.

Fin High says,

can I put a BMX fork

on my downhill bike?

Wow that was a gear change.

- I would say it's probably not possible

and you probably shouldn't do it anyway.

- But you'd have to run a 20 inch wheel on the front.

- The downhill bikes 1 1/8 anyway.

I don't use BMX bikes are 1 1/8 to?

Maybe they are actually but don't do it.

- We've got to put a big why on the front of that.

Why would you?

- Maybe we should!

- Now you've got his interest.

What else we got?

- Paul Fritzell any tips on riding through sand

on a non plus or fat bike?

Also any tips for maintenance

after riding through sand?

- Well I'll tell you what.

I haven't got any tips on the maintenance.

I'm gonna let you do that.

But as far as riding through sand

momentum is key.

'Cause once you've lost it you're done.

You're getting nowhere.

- You have to lean back a little bit.

To try and keep the front wheel floating almost.

- That feeling it kinda just,

kinda glides across,

keep your weight back,

but that does make it quite hard to keep peddling.

It is hard to ride on sand.

- Any sand on your chain or in a bearing

is gonna absolutely wreck it.

So make sure you clean the bike afterwards I'd say.

- There's a race every year isn't there?

Where it starts on sand.

- There's one in the UK.

Bailon Beach is it called?

I think it is.

- Keep your weight back keep moving.

What about maintenance Neil?

What to do about maintaining bike of sand?

Just buy everything new?

(laughter)

- Born2befree so I'm a light fella

and rarely get pinch flats,

but does get fair amount of cactus punctures.

Not from the UK obviously.

Should I go full tubeless or should I go to slime tubes?

- A bit of support there in the tube is good,

but I don't know.

Something like that is it really...

- That's what it's designed for to be honest I think.

So definitely go tubeless.

And we've got a video on top five mistakes you'll make

when going tubeless

so watch that and don't make any of them.

- So another tubeless setup mistake that people often make

is not having a correct pump to get your

tubeless system inflated in the first place.

In an ideal world

you want to use a compressor.

Little bike shops have these

and you might have a friend that does.

The good thing about compressor

is you get constant flow of air

at a good rate.

So your tire's just going to pop out

into place first time.

The next best thing

is to have one of these sort of style pumps

that have got compressed

canister built into them.

Using the pump handle itself,

you're inflating this

and when you're ready you can actually release the air

all in one hit.

(hiss)

- Next question coming in from Supprozz says,

can I change

a larger wheel size e.g. 26 to 27.5

without changing the frame?

- I'd say no.

It's technically possible,

I've done it myself when 27.5 just came out.

I sought my Santa Cruz Bronson I think?

I made it 27.5 for a race

but the front tyre was very close to the fork.

So he could change the fork.

But most frames you'll be very close and tight to the rim.

So I wouldn't recommend it.

- Also you're gonna get into the bottom bracket issue.

- Geometry's can change.

- The ball and bracket drop or rise.

We haven't quite worked that one out have we?

That's a good one to bring up.

Owen Cooper says,

what's your favourite bikes?

- That's a great question.

- How would you answer that?

Favourite bike or favourite bike

as in downhill cross country?

- Mine changes all the time.

At the moment my favourite type of bike

is the cross country bike.

I really like going for long rides.

Some of the modern bikes with 120,

100 mil travel,

are really amazing bikes.

I can't believe how light and fast they are.

That's my favourite bike at the moment.

- I'm in love with downhill bikes.

There's a few out there I'm really lusting over.

- Is this the Whistler effect?

- Yeah it might be the Whistler effect.

It could be.

One of my favourite bikes of all time is a downhill bike

and it was the Honda that Greg Minnaar used to ride.

- I rode one of those!

I stole it off

(mumbles)

I was a bit disappointed.

- Don't say that now.

Blake favourite bike?

Sender good answer.

Good answer nice.

- Mumma Of 2,

I rode my first race,

women's only on the weekend,

what tips do you have for recovery?

It was a three hour race

and I'd only ever ridden for two hours at most.

Felt dead but had a great day

with around 100 other women.

- I'm gonna say rest.

I always say rest.

Whether it's about injuries or recoveries,

make sure you do have the right amount of rest.

Neil anything else?

- The proper food after you finish.

So protein all that stuff is really important.

And then maybe

a gentle recovery ride.

That after can really help your legs

especially if you got sore legs.

- Recovery rides are really interesting one actually

because when your legs are sore you're thinking

they're asking you what to do is go for a ride.

Now I remember being at the end of a world cup

cross country race once.

Watching Alison Sydor,

I think she was three times world champion,

come over the finishing line.

She had just won the world cup

and you're thinking,

man she must be tired,

she went for an hour long recovery ride.

Immediately after the race.

That puts it into perspective.

That recovery ride's really important

and those top pros they use them all the time.

First thing they do is get on a bike

after they just won a race crazy!

Now if that's not information,

enough information about recovery rides,

then why don't you check out our video

about how to recover after a ride

and all the ways you can do it.

- Doing very little is what you need to do

sometimes to recover

and that's really important when it comes to

getting fitter and stronger.

While proper rest is important,

it's also good to get moving.

You're really looking for low effort when you're riding.

Just to get the legs spinning

and move away some of that lactic acid.

You're really looking for the lowest intensity possible.

So don't go hard on those climbs,

try and keep your heart rate down,

and don't go for more than about an hour.

- Kai Ho asks,

what do you do when you're not cycling?

- You know what?

When I'm not in the shed

or when I'm not out mountain biking

I do something really interesting,

I go hand biking.

- It's the same thing.

(mumbles)

Hang out with family.

Got a little man at home so I like doing stuff with him.

I like tinkering with bikes.

I've got an old Murr bike in my garage

so I go in there and

spend hours messing around with bikes.

- It's a lot of bikes.

- A lot of bikes.

- Bikes really is generally

what we do.

Animatrix says I'm 15,

thinking of entering first race.

Good on you.

Do you think I should enter hardtail category

or my age group?

I've noticed a lot people in his age group have got

nice full-sus bikes and he doesn't know

if that's an unfair advantage.

- I did same thing.

I started racing when I was 15

on a hardtail.

Depends if it's downhill.

We don't know what type of racing it is actually.

If it's downhill,

yeah full-suspension bikes

are all gonna be a bit quick probably.

But I would say just jump in your age category.

It's great to learn on hardtail so just do that.

- Find your level.

Against other riders it's important.

- Djaddict13 can you make a video on how to clean

tubeless tyre sealant?

- I can't but you might be able to.

- I would say

best thing to do is,

if it gets on your bike or on your tyres,

if it dries out it really sticks to it.

So just wash it off.

Hose it off as soon as you can.

I actually use a brush as well

because like I said it makes it horrible.

(mumbles)

Dirt sticks to that and it's horrible

so get off that as soon as you can.

- Marius Hilkert says,

how does a steeper or slacker seat angle effect the riding?

And what is better for for downhills

for riding with the saddle slammed?

- Doesn't really make any difference when you go downhill.

It's when you're seated climbing.

So a steeper seat angle

means you sit on top of the

(mumbles)

And it's much nice as climb.

Soon you'll stood up it doesn't matter.

So if you're downhill it doesn't really

make much difference to be honest.

- And you slam that seat out of the way just to

give yourself more riding room.

- Sorry I've ruined the name.

Can you teach me how to nollie?

Do you know what nollie is?

- A nollie is a skateboard trick

and on a mountain bike a nollie is

the very same thing.

- It's a backwards bunny hop.

- It's a backwards bunny hop.

Back wheel up first,

front wheel follows.

- It's actually kinda easy

but we haven't done a video on that yet.

Blake's done a video on how to nose bonk

which is quite similar.

- It is actually.

'Cause you kind of

do that same motion,

maybe start there.

Maybe have a look at that one.

- Welcome to my class today.

I'm gonna teach you on how to nose press

or nose bonk out there on the trails.

(exciting music)

- Time for the quick-fire round.

Neil are you ready?

Right here we go then.

Darxide Pryor says,

do brakes need servicing aside from

replacing pads and bleeding?

Okay good answer.

Keanu Innis when is the next Dirtshed Show?

Louie Patrick Aquila says,

can you fit a 26 inch tyre and tube

to a 27.5 rim?

- A tube yes tyre no.

(laughter)

- Kashive Sahadeo says,

where are you all?

In England or the USA?

- England but we travel a lot.

- We get around.

Vaios M says,

my spd cleats squeaks.

What can he do?

- That would be the pedals.

Put a bit of chain lube on them.

- That's the way to go!

There is no rotation marks on my Dirty Dan,

is that right?

- I'll bet they're alright.

Just have to look a bit closer.

- I don't understand that question.

- I've never seen a tyre without rotation.

- And that is the end.

Oh it's a tyre!

I get it now.

I was wondering what the hell is this...

It's the end of the quick-fire round

let's get out of this while we can.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Now Neil we've got to help out Ian Whitehead

because he's been practising his bunny hops

over in Brisbane in Australia.

He's doing pretty good

but on this pile of logs he's trying to jump over

his front wheel is hitting,

his timing is a bit out,

the back wheel is clearing the logs,

but the front wheel is kind of kicking off the first log.

- It's a good slow-mo here.

Big pump that definitely works,

but if you look,

Ian stays quite central above the bike

so big through the bunny hop.

He's trying to move down like he did,

great big pump,

but then moving back

you want your hips to roll back.

That's gonna lift the front wheel.

And then you hit

(mumbles)

It's that back to forward motion that you really need.

That's probably the most common mistake

I see with bunny hops.

I think you should put in another video on this soon.

Definitely try and get back

and then forward.

- And I'd also add,

actually doing quite a skillful bit

of riding there 'cause you're

knocking the front wheel off of those first logs,

as if you were gonna use them as a little ramp

but then bunny hop it.

Now if you wanted to do that

as a skill in its own right,

it's quite difficult.

Don't feel too bad.

It's not quite a bunny hop and it's not quite a jump.

Neil's advice would probably sort that out.

- Keep sending your videos to ask@gmbn.com.

We'll take a look.

- Thanks for watching this weeks show.

If you've got any questions then leave them

in the comments section down below

and we'll get on to them next week.

- I love this video it's great.

Try and answer people's questions.

- Yeah it's good fun.

If you want to see another video click over here

Top 10 Things Venom Can Do That Spider-Man Can't - Duration: 6:22.

Things Venom Can Do That Spider-Man Can't Hey guys!

Welcome back to Top 10 Nerd, I'm Ron McKenzie-Lefurgey.

Venom was one of Spider-Man's most popular villains.

Then he was Spidey's teammate.

Then his villain.

Then they kinda got along a little bit.

Then he was in space.

Look, what I'm saying is, Venom has quite the history in Marvel comics.

While most people tend to root for Spider-Man when the two come face to face, there are

certain advantages Venom has over the webslinger.

So let's talk about them!

Here are the Top 10 Things Venom can do that Spider-Man can't!

Number 10: He can see Spidey coming, but Spidey can't sense him.

This one's a bit complicated but here goes.

As you know, Spider-man has his Spider sense which warns him of danger.

However, since the symbiote bonded with Peter before going to Eddie Brock, it is able to

go around Peter's Spider-Sense, which is a really significant advantage.

Venom, on the other hand, doesn't seem to have a Spider sense per se, but the symbiote

seems to be able to see everything around its host, able to warn the host and avoid

danger, acting essentially like a "Venom-sense".

So if Spidey was trying to sneak up on Venom, there's a good chance the symbiote would

notice, while Spider-Man doesn't have that luxury.

Number 9: Lift bigger things.

Venom's strength has varied greatly throughout the comics, but one thing that has remained

over all his iterations is that he is stronger than Spider-man.

Spidey's no slouch, with the proportional strength of a spider, but he needs to use

his superior cunning to defeat Venom, since the symbiote grants its host incredible strength.

With the natural strength granted by the race combined with the power gained from Peter's

abilities while bonded with him, Venom is significantly stronger than Spider-Man, even

able to fight the likes of Juggernaut.

Now that's strong.

Number 8: Change his shape to fit combat.

While Spider-Man is pretty much set as the skinny, boyish frame, Venom has the ability

to change his shape to fit his needs.

Whether he's giving himself long, sharp claws, or increasing his size to gain strength,

the guy has quite a few options.

Plus, even though he generally chose not to, he could even create weapons out of his hands,

similar to how Carnage tends to.

This malleable shape has given him quite an advantage over his adversaries over the years,

and it's a pretty awesome ability that he's using more and more in modern comics.

But this isn't the only use of the symbiote's shapeshifting ability…

Number 7: Turn invisible.

That's right Spidey, you're gonna have to up your game!

Not only can the suit change its shape to fight, it can even change to match whatever

it is near.

This means that Venom can stand against a wall and blend in with his surroundings, making

him effectively invisible to onlookers.

Since Spider-Man can't sense Venom with his Spider sense, this is one power that Venom

can use to get the jump on the webslinger.

This ability also allows the symbiote to take the form of normal clothes, so its host can

walk around as normal, with the symbiote always secretly in tow.

So he can be invisible or take the form of clothes… he could be anywhere… *looks

around, examines shirt, scared* Number 6: Heal serious wounds.

Spider-man does have a somewhat increased healing factor, able to regenerate quite a

bit more rapidly than the average human.

However, Venom's healing factor is somewhat more powerful for a few reasons.

For one, and somewhat related, the symbiote is able to essentially protect its host from

damage and disease, able to keep Eddie Brock's cancer at bay and create legs for Flash Thompson.

But those benefits go away when the symbiote leaves.

However, it is also able to help its host recover from serious injuries, allowing Flash

to heal from being impaled by Toxin, or helping Mac Gargan when he was stabbed through the

chest by the Swordsman.

As we've learned from heroes like Wolverine, Deadpool, and the Hulk, healing factors can

be real game changers; and Venom has Spidey beat in this area.

Number 5: Genetic Memory.

Peter Parker is a ridiculously smart guy with a pretty bonkers memory, but he's nothing

next to Venom.

I'm not saying Venom can memorize the periodic table or something, but the symbiote has a

unique genetic memory that allows it to know and understand things about others by simply

touching them, especially if bonded with them.

This allows it to avoid detection by Spider-Man, and to know Spider-Man's true identity,

since the symbiote had previously bonded with Peter and taken in his memories.

Number 4: Travel through the internet and phone lines.

In the 1995 miniseries "Carnage Unleashed", Venom found himself hunting after Carnage,

who had, based on the scientific laws of the 90s, uploaded himself to the internet.

So, of course, Venom uploaded himself too, travelling through the wires to battle Carnage

on the big screen.

He's also used this ability to travel through phone wires to bond with Eddie Brock's ex-wife

Anne Weying and break her out of prison.

It's a pretty ridiculous and unrealistic power, but hey, it's a slimy alien that

attaches to people and turns them into a monster…

I'm fine suspending disbelief just a hair more.

Number 3: Reproduce Asexually.

While Spider-Man has reproduced the good old fashioned way, and has had a number of clones

made, he's never reproduced asexually.

Although as a teenage male, I'm sure he's spent more than enough time trying.

But Venom can and has quite a few times, mostly against his will.

It seems that the symbiotes are born with a number of "seeds" inside them, one of

which will grow to become a viable offspring.

We first learned of this when he accidentally created Carnage, who ended up being one of

Venom's greatest villains.

Kids these days, you know?

No respect I tell ya.

He also had a number of offspring by artificial means with various cloning and seed extraction

methods.

The dude's quite the baby daddy.

Number 2: Create webbing internally.

Move over Tobey McGuire, the real Spider-Man doesn't create webs as part of his powers.

Most versions of Spider-Man rely on web shooters, with cartridges of pressurized web fluid providing

the material.

Venom, on the other hand, produces his own webbing from the symbiote itself.

This has advantages and disadvantages.

On the plus side, it means you're not reliant on technology, and in most cases you just

won't have to worry about running out.

However, he does have a finite supply, and Spider-Man has taken advantage of this, tricking

Venom into using all his webbing, thus weakening him considerably.

Number 1: Access the Klyntar Hive Mind.

Unsurprisingly, Spider-Man does not have the ability to communicate with the hivemind of

the Klyntar, the race to which the Venom Symbiote belongs.

Because… why would he?

Hell, for a long time, not even Venom could do this due to his corruption.

However, soon after he was cleansed when he was with Flash Thompson, Venom gained the

ability to access the Klyntar Hive Mind.

This gave him a number of benefits.

He could communicate with symbiotes back home, learn about the past of his species, and even

hear the voice of the Cosmos, which would tell him where people needed help.

Nifty!

That's it for today!

Hope you guys enjoyed, if you did please smack that thumbs up button and subscribe to Top

10 Nerd for more videos!

Who do you like better, Venom or Spider-Man?

Survive underwater.

It probably comes as no surprise to you that Spider-Man can't breathe underwater, since

I don't know a heck of a lot of spiders who can do that either.

But as luck would have it, Venom CAN survive underwater!

Every child in the world can have a microscope. Here's how. - Duration: 3:31.

I grew up in India.

I love science, and it was very clear but you know, we couldn't afford the traditional

scientific tools.

And so from that moment itself, the idea that you can invent your tools as you go along

became very important to me.

I was in uganda in 2013 and I noticed this centrifuge being used as a doorstop.

And I realized the fact that there was no electricity.

And so of course, what good is a scientific instrument if it only runs on electricity

that you don't have?

We make affordable scientific tools that are accessible to everyone, to bring the joy and

discovery of science, not just for the traditional scientist, but every single kid in the world.

We have shipped 50,000 of what we call foldscopes.

These are origami microscopes that anybody can make.

They cost just $1.00 to make.

This year we have set a goal to release a million foldscopes to kids around the world,

and we will not stop until every single kid carries a tool like that in their pocket.

I call it frugal science; over the last five years, we have been working in many countries,

many of them in Africa and India, to really be able to try to understand how do you empower

community health workers who are on the frontlines of infectious diseases trying to protect all

of us?

And the area that we focus on is infectious diseases and diagnostics.

Now, diagnostics has a really hard problem, which is, it's like searching for a needle

in a haystack.

And one problem that we have been tackling in this is, how do you really bring that needle

out?

And we just discovered a new tool, that we describe, we call it paperfuge.

It's an idea to build a centrifuge, a really legit complex tool that's used for sample

preparation, out of a very simple children's toy.

I actually am carrying it in my pocket, so if you haven't ever seen one Depending on

how much force I apply and how much air drag there is on this disc, and how much torque

is there in these strings, I can back-calculate how fast this will spin.

One million rotations per minute.

That's very, very fast.

What I can do is take a drop of blood with a Lancet, fill it in.

And now what I'm doing is as I spin the blood that I have taken in there is also spinning.

And between 30 seconds to a minute, we can separate the content of that blood into plasma

and red blood cells.

And now, the ratio of how much red blood cells I have to plasma actually gives me an indicator

of whether I have anemia.

Now, if I was to spin this for a couple more minutes, I might be able to separate out the

cells that are infected with malaria.

Intellectually, it becomes quite an exciting endeavor, to really be able to do the same

kind of performance that you would do in a traditional lab, but to be able to do it with

almost nothing.

My name is manu prakash, and this is my Brief But Spectacular take on frugal science.

Hello Circle People, Poised here bringing you a little bit of an update video.

First off I want to thank every single one of you for keeping with us this long, we just

now passed 3,000 videos uploaded to this channel, and 28,000,000 total views.

Both of those numbers are just mind boggling to me.

Now this video wont be that long and we'll talk about 2 things.

One is that I want to celebrate us reaching 3,000 videos by doing a giveaway that will

be100 dollars total in value.

The second part of the video I will talk about how we in Circle People have set things up

so people will be able to help out, so if you ever have wanted to request plays, help

with graphics, or maybe even start your own series on the channel, wait until the end

and listen!

But first off the giveaway!

The 100 dollars will be split over 5 winners, so each winner will get around 20 dollars

each.

Now you may be wondering how it can be around 20, and that is because the winners will be

able to choose between a few things if they win.

The things you'll be able to choose between First, 20 dollars worth of osu!

Supporter, which translates to 8 months supporter.

Second are tablet covers from Yangu.pw, and 1 order gives you 2 covers.

So if a winner choose this they will get 2 covers.

If this is what you want, please have high quality pictures ready for Yangu, also unfortunately

no NSFW pictures.

The giveaway will be continuing until next friday, 8th of September and will end at midnight

GMT+1.

Okay, for this next part I will start with listing some ways people will be able to help

us, and if any of the ways sound interesting to you.

Stay and listen to the end

Helping out with Graphics and or animation.

finding news, memes or scores for osu!alert editing various videos

Finding funny livestream clips for the livestream highlight series

Finding scores that we need to upload, either new ones or old ones for osu!

Archive Deciding what plays should be uploaded or

not after someone requests it Website development in this case wordpress

Speeduploading scores

Or if you have a totally new idea for any kind of series you would want to do, just

propose that and we can most likely make it work.

This is what Jehlp did with the osu!

Archive series.

Now of course some of these wont be available for people to start doing immediately, for

example uploading, as it requires us to trust the person completely.

But all of these and more are options.

So now, if any of these interest you, we have created a new discord server to keep everything

organized.

The server is called Circle Helpers, and will be heavily moderated.

In the server there are a bunch of different channels, called different things that you

can help out with.

When you join the server the first thing you should do is check out the channel called

#role requests.

In there you will see a list of current roles and categories of things you can help out

with.

If there is anything more you want to help out with that isn't listed here DM me (poised)

directly and we'll sort it out.

Now lets go through the basic roles.

The most basic roles will be the ones called "Taiko, Mania, CTB and Standard."

If you have any of these roles you will be mentioned any time a score in that gamemode

is requested and you'll be able to help decide if it should be uploaded.

We will most likely go by a system where you will vote with reactions on the score.

Other basic roles are, gfx, for people that want to help with graphics or animations.

Clip finders, for people that want to help with finding livestream clips for the livestream

highlight series

Websitepeople for people that want to help out with the website or have ideas for what

we should do there.

Now we dont have many rules, but basically:)

dont be an ass, dont spam, dont go too offtopic and dont spam memes.

The discord will be heavily moderated at all times.

If you want a little easier time join our normal discord server.

If you do join this Circle helper server, be warned that you WILL be mentioned A LOT.

So this is only for people that want to help out.

If you're interested in joining the link will be in description

Can the Queen's Guard Really Not React to People While on Duty? - Duration: 12:21.

"The Queen's Guard" comprise of various soldiers tasked with guarding the residences

of the Queen and, by extension, the Queen herself.

Consisting of soldiers (mostly) hand picked from five elite regiments within the British

military, the Queen's Guard are internationally renowned for their stoic dedication to duty.

However, contrary to popular belief, these soldiers are permitted to move (and do so

regularly, even when just on guard duty and not on parade) and in certain circumstances

do react to hecklers or the like.

That said, while on duty outside one of the Queen's residences, these sentries are trained

to remain unflinching in the face of everything from extreme weather to screaming abuse a

few inches from their faces.

In fact, if they end up having to relieve themselves during their two hour shifts (generally

two hours on, four hours off), they remain just as outwardly unflappable, instructed

to simply perform their necessaries in their thick woolen trousers which, according to

Guardsman Shaun Marsden, "are sufficiently dark to cover their embarrassment".

(While this might seem a short span of time to ever have this occur, it should be noted

that on hot summer days, Guardsmen are instructed to drink very large amounts of water before

going on duty to attempt to prevent heatstroke and dehydration.)

But despite these bastions of British stoicism's reputations, they do move regularly- at least

every 10 minutes they will turn and patrol their post, which usually involves taking

about 10-20 paces one way and then back before once again resuming their vigil.

Occasionally a guard may also perform such a march to approach an individual within their

vicinity who is being a particular nuisance or the like, but the more common purpose of

these little jaunts is usually just to get the blood flowing again to keep it from pooling

too much in their legs, potentially causing the soldier to faint.

Speaking of fainting, if a soldier begins to feel themselves succumbing to such, they

are taught to "faint to attention".

This basically means that they must faint while maintaining their standing at attention

pose.

In practice when achieved, this tends to result in them falling rigidly over like a toy soldier,

which is why pictures of guardsman laying face down, rather than more or less crumpled,

on the ground abound on the web.

Fellow Queen's Guard members around said individual are forbidden from deviating from

their duty if this occurs and will in fact march straight over their fallen comrade if

necessary.

(Medical personal will, of course, be sent out to attend to the individual when this

is observed.)

While not a common occurrence, this does happen every now and then.

For instance, during the 2017 Trooping the Colour, in which temperatures sat around 27°C

(80°F), five of the Queen's Guard, baking in their many layered, thick uniforms and

bearskin hats, passed out.

Beyond fainting and marching, the guards also may move about in a variety of other ways-

they are guards after all.

However, given that their roll has largely been reduced to a symbolic one, with local

law enforcement generally taking care of any problems that arise around the Queen's residences,

today one of these elite soldiers breaking their normal stoic stance is generally simply

due to tourists, rather than a real threat or need for them to perform as actual guards.

That said, members of the Queen's Guard will rarely openly react to tourists taking

photos or telling them jokes to try and make them laugh and are, in fact, specifically

instructed to ignore stuff like this.

However, if a particular group of tourists is being especially annoying, the guard may

make their best effort to ruin a picture or the like, for instance by suddenly turning

and marching right when the tourists are all posing for a photograph with the guard.

In one instance we came across, a guardsman noted he'd just continuing to march while

such tourists are around, passive aggressively getting them back for their disrespect- somewhat

akin to the Seinfeld Soup Nazi, "No picture for you!"

Speaking of marching, should you get in the way of a member of the Queen's Guard who

is doing this, you'll likely find yourself having said soldier shout something to the

effect of "Make way for the Queen's Guard!"

Failure to move out of their way will result in you being knocked over, as one hapless

man found out in 2015.

(Although to be fair to said man, no one in the Guard chose to yell "Make way!" until

after they ran into him, and he clearly was oblivious to their presence before the collision,

so wasn't trying to disrespect them.)

One guardsman also noted that, while exceptionally rare, occasionally a tourist will tell a particularly

good joke which may elicit a smile or even laughter from him, though if a soldier is

caught in such a slip in composure, they get docked pay (a few days to a week's worth

depending on the severity of infraction) and may endure other punishments, including in

extreme cases being kicked off the guard.

Thus, while trying to get the guard to lose their composure may seem all fun and games

to tourists, if one is successful and the guard's superiors find out, that person

may have just screwed with the livelihood of said soldier, who in the first place aren't

exactly getting rich as a member of the Guard.

(They are generally paid somewhere between about £1200-£2000 per month, which is about

$1,500-$2600.)

As for sanctioned interactions with people, should the guard deem someone enough of a

nuisance (though not necessarily a real threat, with in that case guards free to react however

they see fit to deal with the situation), they are instructed to do the following:

Come to attention sharply, involving a very loud stamp, which is all the more startling

when said soldier was otherwise motionless before.

Shouting sharp instructions at the individual being a nuisance.

This might be something like "Step back from the Queen's Guard!" with the guards

required to keep their warnings and ultimatums brief and to the point.

Marching towards the individual.

Pointing the bayoneted rifle directly at the person being a nuisance.

If all else fails, doing whatever is necessary to detain the person causing the disturbance

or pressing a button in the sentry box to alert police to come deal with the situation.

One potential almost surefire way of eliciting such a strong reaction is to touch the guard

or otherwise exhibit extremely disrespectful behavior, such as marching along beside the

soldier in a mocking fashion while insulting the guard verbally.

And if you're wondering whether said rifles that may be pointed at your face in such a

scenario are loaded are not, they are usually not.

(Though one imagines having a sharpened bayonet wielded by a highly trained soldier shoved

in your face is intimidating enough, even if you know the gun it's attached to is

not loaded.)

Occasionally the Guard do carry ammunition with them though, particularly when there's

knowledge of a credible threat to the safety of the Queen or nation or otherwise when a

heightened state of security is ordered.

In these cases, if necessary, the soldier can load the rifle in a blink by simply ejecting

the empty magazine and popping in a full one.

And, yes, as actual guards- even if their duties today are mostly ceremonial in practice-

said individuals are authorised to use deadly force when appropriate, most notably if they

feel their own lives, members of the royal family, or the general public near their guard

post are endangered.

As an idea of just what the Queen's Guard have long had to deal with from people, former

guardsman Ronald Tibbets notes, "Some march up and down with us and others pull our bearskins.

Some people put fag ends down the rifle butts.

Some stick oranges on the end of the bayonet…"

It's also noted that having banana peels or other such items placed along a soldier's

marching route is occasionally a thing.

People also sometimes attempt to untie the guard's shoelaces.

One member of the Guard even noted it wasn't uncommon for people to "stick pins in you"

to try to make guardsmen flinch.

It's not all bad, though, and guardsmen have noted that some people are quite respectful

when approaching for photographs and the like.

Further, one guardsman noted in an interview there was a general "perk" of frequently

having women flash guards to get a reaction and also sometimes having phone numbers and

addresses slipped into their pockets by those women no doubt wanting to see whether the

ability to stand at attention for hours at a time translates to the bedroom.

Today, many problems the Queen's Guard have long had with the general public has been

mitigated somewhat.

To get around the fact that the public seemingly can't be trusted to act respectfully around

said soldiers, the guards in many, but not all, cases now stand behind fences or roped

off areas.

They still have to deal with the heckling, of course, but at least can now in many posts

avoid being stuck with pins.

Given the mostly ceremonial nature of the posting these days, you might be wondering

what the guards actually think about while standing for so long.

One guardsman noted, "sometimes I just people watch" (that, after all, being partially

what they are supposed to be doing- keeping alert for any threats), but at other times,

"I tend to sing songs in my head or try to remember as much of a movie from start

to finish in my head…

I've gotten pretty good at that."

Before a parade, the iconic bear skin hats of the Queen's Guard are shampooed and conditioned

to make them look as glossy and full as possible.

Individual soldiers are also expected to comb their hats on a daily basis.

These bearskin hats are made from Canadian brown bear and generally weigh around 1 kg,

though get significantly heavier when it's raining.

The practice of the Guard wearing large bearskin hats dates back to the early 19th century,

with the hats' purpose primarily meant to intimidate by making the soldier wearing it

look much taller.

In some ways, the Queen's Guard are comparable to the soldiers who guard the Tomb of the

Unknowns in the US.

Both are famed for their discipline and commitment to duty and both can, contrary to popular

opinion, deviate from the strict, regimented routine should a member of the public act

in a disrespectful manner.

For more about these soldiers you can read our article about them here: Standing in a

Hurricane- Watching Over the Tomb of the Unknowns.

Although the soldiers who serve in the Queen's Guard are invariably "a member from one

of five regiments of the Foot Guard from the British Army's Household Division", specifically

the Grenadier Guards, the Coldstream Guards, the Scots Guards, the Irish Guards and the

Welsh Guards, (meaning the Queen is being protected by soldiers from the four countries

that make up the United Kingdom) they can, in theory, hail from any regiment serving

in the commonwealth.

Because of this, the duties of the Queen's Guard have, on occasion, been assumed by everyone

from the Royal Marines to the Canadian Expeditionary Force over

the years.
