Welcome to the NGINX tutorial on How to Install NGINX on the Ubuntu and Linux

operating systems. The first thing that you're going to want to do when you want

to install NGINX is go to NGINX.org. Once on NGINX.org, go to the menu on the

right side and click on the download button. And when you do that you'll be

taken to our download page which lists the latest versions of NGINX as well as

some legacy versions. What We're gonna do is scroll down to the very end we see two

options for using pre-build packages for NGINX. There are three different

options for installing NGINX. Our recommended method is to use the

Mainline Branch but the Mainline Branch always have the latest code and we put

out new versions and feature enhancements every four to six weeks.

A second option is a Stable Branch. The Stable Branch is only updated for

critical issues and security vulnerabilities, so if you don't need the

latest features or you just want a branch that doesn't change very often

then the Stable Branch is a good option for you.

There's a third option and that's using the build of NGINX that provided by your

OS vendor and in this case that would be the builds provided by Debian and Ubuntu.

We typically don't recommend people to use that because they're not updated as

frequently and a lot of times are running fairly old versions of NGINX

so you're missing on the latest code features and most importantly you're not

getting the latest security patches. So I'm gonna go ahead and click on the

Mainline version here and that takes us to the instructions for how to install

our Mainline repository and then of course install NGINX for a mainline

repository and scrolling down a little here we see information on our

repository for both Debian and Ubuntu and that's really the only difference is

just the address for the repo ends in /Debian for Debian

and /Ubuntu for Ubuntu operating system. You see the code name piece of it

in italics and you would replace that with the actual code name for the

distro that you using. In this example we'll be using Ubuntu 17.04 and

the code name for that is Zesty. On the Debian side of course you would use

Stretch or Jessie. And so the first thing here I'm going to do is go to my /etc/apt

directory and the instructions here say to edit the sources dot list file

directly and put in the repo addresses in there. What I typically do instead, is

go to /etc/apt.sources.list.d and I create a file specifically for it so /nginx.list.

I think that keeps things a little bit more tidy than putting everything in

a single file especially if you are using multiple repos from for multiple

different vendors. And I put in my sudo password and I'm send a copy and paste

this section from our website

and I'm gonna change codename here to - Zesty because that's what I'm using

After I click save that's it. The next thing to do is add in the signing key

but to do that I just click on the this key link and click on copy link address

and I'm gonna go ahead and wget that file onto my system and once that's done

I'm gonna go ahead and install it sudo app-key add nginx_signing.key and that

adds in the signing key and once the signing key is in we can go ahead and

actually install NGINX. So, the first thing to do is sudo apt-get update and

that's gonna update our list of repositories with the newest repository

that we added you can see it as it scrolls up that nginx.org passed and so

that means that we're now downloading packages from the nginx.org

repository. Gonna give this a few seconds to complete and then after this does

complete we're going to go ahead and install NGINX is just a simple sudo

apt-get install NGINX and that's gonna go ahead and install NGINX from our

official repository. And then once that is done and installed we're gonna go

ahead and make sure and verify that the install went through correctly there's a

few different commands you can do to to do that verification. So now that the

installation has completed I'm gonna run nginx-v and that prints out the

version number for NGINX installed on this system and it's for this tutorial

it's version nginx/1.13.7 which is the latest version of

NGINX that's a recording of this video and a second thing that I typically do

is ps -ef | grep nginx. You can see here that no NGINX processes are

running so now I'm gonna go ahead and run the startup script and that's

sudo /etc/init.d/nginx start. And that starts the NGINX service and run that ps

command again ps -ef | grep nginx and now I see that

there are two processes the NGINX master process which runs as route and the

master process splits off the worker process which does the actual heavy

lifting of processing user traffic. The worker process runs as user NGINX.

And so, by seeing these two processes we verify now that NGINX has been started

on this system and as has been installed properly.

And that concludes this tutorial on How to Install NGINX for the Ubuntu and

Debian Linux operating systems.

How To Organize Your Videos And Files! - Every YouTuber NEEDS this tool! (Post Haste Tutorial) - Duration: 9:49.

what's up guys my name is Matt Zefi today I wanted to do a tutorial on what

I think is one of the most important aspects about video editing and that is

staying organized

I'm not even exaggerating when I say this has been one of the most helpful

softwares that I've ever used I was personally introduced to this software

back in 2015 and I've been using it ever since on every single projects that I've

done especially large projects when it's even more important to stay organized

I find that when you're doing with long projects and even when you work with

other editors forget about it it's another story I've received hard drives

from people from other editors and it's just crazy to look at really hard and

annoying to understand so I'm telling you if you can follow these tips you're

gonna help other people out and you're gonna help yourself out another thing

that's really fantastic about this is that it's not just limited to video

editors you can do this if you're doing any kind of motion graphics if you're

doing things are photoshop it comes with these pre-made templates inside it but

one of the greatest parts there is that you could actually edit these templates

make duplicates of these templates and edit those you could share them with

friends you could do all sorts of things with these templates and it's gonna help

you stay consistent which is extremely important when you're editing and I

haven't encountered any software's that are even similar to this but the fact

that this one's free and it's so useful is pretty amazing I'm gonna leave a link

to it down below in the description if you want to go ahead and download that

now so that you're able to follow me in this video or you can give it a download

later on afterwards whatever works for you I'm gonna jump right in let's get

started alright guys so this is basically what you should be looking at

when you first download post taste it's a fairly simple software they don't

update it very often which is kind of nice because everything seems to work

perfectly and there's no need to update what's not broken I'm going to start off

by showing you but a new project is for basically this tab is for whenever you

start a new project so you're gonna come into here and this first value should be

one if this is the first time that you're using this software and every

time you start a new project it will go up in value kind of just an easier way

to keep track of the number of projects you're doing and you can see all the

projects that you've done in numerical order so this client part there is

actually a drop down menu I'm gonna show you the clients here I just

put my own name for now basically you're gonna fill that in with whatever client

you are working for for that project name self-explanatory

um date it's gonna do automatically an editor you are gonna want to set

yourself if you're editing it or maybe someone else is using a computer this

could be helpful to have a drop-down menu with other names in it for me it's

just me using this computer so it's only me as the editor up here you'll see

project template and you could actually drop this down and look at all the

templates that you have this is great because not every project is the same

summer visual effects heavy some are more just simple editing heavy and you

only need certain things in your project bins for that for instance I have this

trim down basic template and that's basically only the essentials that I

need to get going and it's the only the project funds that I always use and it's

more for simpler projects an extended basic is a little bit more than that so

I think just three of these extended basic postes tutorial which I just

created and the trim down basic are the only ones that I created myself the rest

usually come with digital Valiant to create your own templates are gonna want

to move into where the fun happens in the templates page so this is the

template that I just compiled it's basically it's very similar to the other

templates that I actually use in real life basically you have your Adobe After

Effects folder this is if you're doing anything with GOP After Effects

involving premiere or just Adobe After Effects separately and you could save

your renders into this folder and I also have a Adobe Premiere Pro which is what

I use so the whole purpose of naming these things templates or what they

actually function as is these things are actually going to be titled whatever you

input it into these blank spaces on this new project page so your folder that

post place is gonna create is going to be called this as well as the projects

for though the After Effects and Adobe Premiere and some other projects that

you could do as well that's why they're named template so moving on I also

folder for approvals that's when I'm sending it to a client and those are

kind of just like drafts audio which can you can really elaborate here you can

have scores voiceovers sound effects production sound anything like that that

can go into your audio folder delivery is where I usually put my final final

export and just makes it easier to find that explore if I need to revert to it

in the future so editing notes is something that I recently implemented

into this workflow and it's because I found that it would help future editors

if they were to look at a hard drive that I'm working on or project that I'm

in and I usually just kind of detail everything where everything is in these

folders to help them although I think it's pretty self-explanatory but it just

helps even further and I wish that an editor left to meet with that but beyond

just an editor if a client were to look at the hard drive and look inside the

hard drive if it were a scenario where the client has the hard drive then it

just it's gonna help them as well especially so this is definitely

something that will be useful to other editors as well as yourself because if

you're gonna if you know you're gonna be looking at this project a long time down

the line and you want to know where everything is and what everything

functions as and this text document which will be in every project folder

will really help you out the media is where I put all my footage original

camera and when I create the proxies that put it in the proxy folder so

that's about it for this template and like I said these are really

customizable all I have to do is come down here and just select what you want

to add new folder or particular projects but it does go beyond this like I said

you can customize bends within these projects so that every time you open

this project when you create the folder then it will actually load your

customary bins in there which is pretty nice so to set that up you would just

double click this template you can also do this with

Adobe programs as well but basically you just want to double click this template

if this particular project Adobe project is an outdated version of Adobe you will

have to save that again and just replace this template project make sure it's the

same exact name template so you're gonna want to rename it to template without

the underscore one and then you'll be good to go so you're just gonna open

this and then just setup your Adobe Premiere Pro Bin's as you normally would

and then make sure you save it at the end close and then when you go to create

your project later so I create my project I'm actually gonna save it to my

desktop for now so here's my project as you can see it's titled what we had

filled into those spaces so if I open it up I get those bins we just named and as

you can see the projects are named exactly as the folder was named which we

specified beforehand and posthaste and if I open this up it will open up all of

the bins that normally using Premiere Pro this includes sequences I like to

have to use adjustment layers pretty much right off the bat so I actually

have an adjustment layer created you could have your assets already in there

if you have specific assets that you know you're gonna be using for a

specific client numerous times you could already have those loaded in there and

to premiere and an example of what Benz you might want to create could be a

sequences bin an audio bin maybe a titles Ben although this was more useful

with the legacy titles and premiere additional ones could be obviously your

typical media bin and then other than that it's pretty much up to you but

there's really so much you could do with this software it's pretty incredible and

what's really great about this is that it keeps you consistent and you know

your folder structure is gonna be exactly the same on every project and if

you're doing with the same client that's pretty great to have so I highly

recommend this software it's a great thing to have in your arsenal and that's

about it for this so that's about it guys a short and sweet tutorial but it's

extremely useful if you apply this to your workflow if you got anything out of

this video make sure to LIKE and subscribe and if you have any questions

or even suggestions please leave a comment down below and I will be getting

back to you guys with the tumblr videos in the near future so thanks so much for

watching and take care

How to make a shaker card - FREE Sale-a-bration set - Tutorial by Hannah Jones - Duration: 21:08.

HI crafters it's Hannah from handcrafted cards.com welcome to my channel today

I'm going to be showing you how to make this shaker card today but the fun thing

about it is we will be using some of these to make our shaker and I will

explain what they are in the video so make sure you stay tuned till the end

and if you are new here don't forget to subscribe if you already subscribe thank

you very much for coming back and we will get started right I have already

done the die-cutting ahead of time what you're going to need so using the

celebrate you thing that dies out of my topper piece I have cut celebrate so

that obviously you can use for another card

then I have cut the amazing out of whisper white and again you could use

that for another card and then the you I've cut out of emerald envy cardstock

so those are the three dyes that you get in the set so move that out of the way

so that's the amazing no the celebrate you thinlit dies which you can get

for free with an order of 90 pounds or more and they're on page 17 of the

sale-a-bration brochure they're just there and they coordinate

beautifully with this stamp set as well so that so we're going to work on this

part to move these out of the way for a second and I'm just going to do some

stamping with another celebration item the beautiful at peacock these die cuts

out the way

yeah so emerald Envy and Ireland indigo ink first of all you're gonna stump off

the edge with brand new stamp set this flourish and also it's kind of leafy

there and then we'll do some of the little flowers in a minute but first I'm

gonna stump no I'll stamp this on first just because it's a little bit more I

don't know yeah I can be easier to stamp this one first

just a couple of those absolutely gorgeous aren't they

and then one down here okay therefore this guy oops

you're gonna sir fill in some of those spaces

so just anywhere there's a bit of a gap

and you can go over into the space of where the words are as well that looks

good

don't want to overlap too much obviously there's gonna be some overlap that's

fine

okay thanks those my words are gonna go um whoops

copy yeah

hmm can't really see in the white can you might do that in Island indigo in a

second okay so I'm gonna fill in with some berry burst any of the gaps and

then we'll see if we need any more so just that little flower just in some of

the gaps

awesome okay what else is in there it was another real tiny tiny one which I'm

gonna I'm gonna go and cut that in Orland indigo because I think that will

stand out better and then grab another Inc bear with okay I've caught that

violin didn't go and I think that will look better and there is also another

tiny little flower in the set that I'm gonna add just to fill in those little

spaces a little bit more tiny tiny one oops

I'm gonna do that in daffodil delight just to add a little bit more color

yeah that's what it needed

so basically we're just making the front of the shaker card so this can be

absolutely anything that you want it to be

yeah I'm happy that now close these inks because I am finished stamping so know

that that bits are done we can get on to the fun part which is what I'm going to

show you there's a little technique I've learnt to make your shaker elements for

your shaker cards really really fun so let's pop these back you can see that

one it is clean but it's stained but and that's totally normal with photopolymer

when you certain colors it is going to stain there and vote upon you but it

still works just fine okay right shake a bit of containers that the Stampin Up

embellishments coming these were buttons from a while back and I've kept them and

then I've got some of these silica gel full fingers that you get in handbags or

any kind of bag and I think they're supposed to stop whatever it is from

smelling or getting dumped or something I don't know what but I saw over on

Deana Rico's channel which if you don't know who she is you need to check out

her channel she's also she uses these to make shaker card bits so then just a

couple I'll start with one drop of reinker or two and then just shake it up

get these awesome Colored boys so that's what they like to start off with and

then that is just one one in a bit of drops of reinker so that's very burst

and then I'm gonna do this one with Island indigo so custom color shake a

bit oh wow dropping him okay so now we can finish off our shaker card and I do

also have some of the metallic sequins as well because I thought they would

look quite nice in the mix so shaker card

you've got your whatever you've stamped and you've got your hole in the middle

so you need some acetate that will fit the that will cover over whatever you've

got so it could be a circle it could be any dyes that you've got really so that

we're gonna stick down so I'm going to do some fast fuse but then I'm also

gonna use my fine tip glue pen just to go over some of these smaller areas in

the word just these bits just to make sure they're stuck I don't want any of

it popping off

and glued pop that back oh come on there we go just press it down with a block

excuse me I do that yourself and getting even pressure so it's nice and stuck so

that is the window and if you can even see no don't matter okay so now I've got

some of the long foam strips which are perfect for shaker cards because you

want to make sure when you do any kind of shaker cards that your bits are gonna

stay where you want them to so they're so giving a little bit of space around

in my case the word and then make sure the edges are stuck really well

you can just twist this you don't have to cut it

just make sure it's pressed down really well and then you grab another bit just

to close that up

and you really need to make sure that there's no opening so there's no way any

of your bits are going to fly out and then just add some up here cuz obviously

this bit is going to be popped up so the rest of it needs to be as well

a little bit in the middle okay your card base I'm just gonna stick it

straight onto the card base it's gonna get stuck on there like that just making

sure it all looks good and I think it does so now grab your shaky bits of the

berry burst close that and leave that for later on or you could just mix them

all together afterwards and then just a few secrets just for a bit of sparkle

love these sequins if you haven't seen them that absolutely stunning should be

enough maybe a couple more you never have too

much Sparkle can you really okay

and just keep that lay down nicely hopefully I'll get this straight

press it lightly then you can flip it over

darn it's too high okay let's do it the other way show our way mmm I can't

really kind of I'm just trying to think like I don't have to do it this way okay

that I'll shoot this is not happening today okay let's do it the other way and

see if it will work so the other way is oh it's such a mop it is putting the

bits on here and then hoping that it's in the right spot we'll just get these

off bear with me people will get their scoop

all my awesome Bitsy's and are flying away oh my gosh this is just not working

okay stay

pull them into the middle it's got their easy way to do this

okay bear with okay I've corralled them I used a block to sort of help me and

get them into a pile good nice and then we can just place this on top and it

will be in the right place it's really not that difficult I'm making look so

much harder than it really is

whew you've got your awesome shaker bits in there oh yeah yeah yeah

I just do celebrate you do you think yeah I think that looks better I think

the amazing gets kind of lost so we'll just do celebrate you and then I'll use

those other die-cuts on another card so

bit of fine tip

so don't forget to subscribe if you haven't subscribed already

I wanna would really appreciate it and - you'll get notified when I post a new

video so I have live class every Monday call a challenge every Wednesday and

then something random on a Saturday

and I also have a new Facebook group where you can share things that you've

created as well there we go I hope that you enjoyed this tutorial on making a

shaker card and using silicone gel for things to make your own shaker bits I

will put another celebration video over there and then just another tutorial

that you might enjoy over there thank you very much for watching and I'll see

you next time bye

How to Replace Pin & Hold (P&H) Wiper Blades • Cars Simplified Quick Tips - Duration: 1:21.

The pin and hook style wiper blade attachment is possibly the easiest one

to work with. Nothing truly locks this wiper blade into place, it is merely held

on to the wiper arm just by being in the operating position.

As with any wiper blade replacement, make sure the wiper arm stays put when you're working with it;

you do not want that thing slamming down on your windshield.

That'll ruin your day fast!

To remove the old wiper blade, pull the wiper arm up and hold it

in place, rotate the wiper blade roughly 90

degrees so that the side of the wiper that is facing the wiper arm rotates

away from the wiper arm. Slide it off the pin and you're done!

It's that easy! putting the new wiper blade on is the reverse of taking the

old one off. One extra step you can take to get a little better performance out

of your wiper blade and extend the life of the wiper arm is to put a plastic

safe grease on the pin. I like to use this silicone grease because it keeps

moisture out. It also helps reduce noise because it fills the gap between the

wiper attachment and the pin on the arm.

After your new wipers are installed give

them a test and make sure your windshield is clean.

Nothing wears out wipers faster than a dry, dirty windshield.

How To Be Happy and Single - Duration: 3:37.

Single people often blame their unhappiness on the fact that they are single.

But researchers have found that those who are single, or just dating can actually thrive

to the point of feeling fulfilled even if they don't have a partner.

Here are my tips for how you can do that from my perspective of being a new mom:

1.

Do the things you like.

Make the most of your time.

Enjoy your favorite activities and do them often.

I always tell my single girlfriends that it's a very different life when you have a family.

It changes everything.

There are times when you you're not able or don't have the time to do the things

you love the most because you have so much going on and you are no longer your #1 priority.

Heck, sometimes it's hard to even do the most basic things.

So now is your time.

Live to the fullest.

2.

Work on yourself.

We are all a work in progress.

As a single person, right now is the best time to focus on your personal development.

Build good habits, a high self-esteem and a strong mindset.

These will be a solid foundation for the rest of your life.

Those things will help you when you have a partner and if you decide to have kids.

Trust me, especially when you have a kid, things can come up for you, your partner or

even the both of you, so the more you find yourself in a good emotional space, the better.

3.

Get out of your comfort zone.

Actively look for new experiences.

This makes for a fun way to grow.

Find something that scares you and at that same time, keeps popping up in your mind.

That could be the thing you need to do the most for yourself.

Every time you achieve a goal or have a positive experience because you put yourself out there,

you will find that it adds to the person you become.

Travel alone, meet new people in other countries and take up new hobbies.

Once upon a time, I would take off on trips by myself.

I've snorkeled with manatees and whale sharks.

I've seen the northern lights in Iceland, thrown tomatoes in the streets in Spain and

scuba dived off of the Galapagos islands with hammerhead sharks.

I'm so grateful that I did those things.

Now that I'm a mom with a 2 year old, I can't just take off like that.

That's not in the cards.

You don't realize how much freedom you have until you don't have it so listen to me

when I say go do everything you want to do.

That leads to my next point:

4.

Embrace your independence.

You're independent now.

That's why right now can be the best opportunity to reach your next career goals, to make big

changes in your lifestyle, to experiment and to define what you want and go after it.

In addition, take good care of your health and learn how to manage your time and money.

Those skills will help you later on.

5.

Strengthen your relationships.

Let go of toxic ones.

Dedicate more time to family and friends.

Also, be okay with leaving behind the people in your circle who are too negative, you know…

the complainers and toxic people who only judge.

Those are the kind of people that can really stunt your growth so be ok with doing what

you need to do for yourself.

6.

See being single as an opportunity.

Not only are you able to easily do things whenever you want to but you also have the

ability to relax and be at peace whenever you want to as well.

Don't take that for granted.

7.

Be grateful…

Just because.

no matter what.

Have this attitude and you can find yourself being a very happy single person.

How Reading Rewires Your Brain For More Intelligence And Empathy - Duration: 8:32.

How Reading Rewires Your Brain For More Intelligence And Empathy

By consciousreminder

Fitness headlines promise staggering physical results: a firmer butt, ripped abs, bulging

biceps.

Nutritional breakthroughs are similar clickbait, with attention-grabbing, if often inauthenticwhat,

really, is a superfood?means of achieving better health.

Strangely, one topic usually escaping discussion has been shown, time and again, to make us

healthier, smarter, and more empathic animals: reading.

Reading, of course, requires patience, diligence, and determination.

Scanning headlines and retweeting quips is not going to make much cognitive difference.

If anything, such sweet nothings are dangerous, the literary equivalent of sugar addiction.

Information gathering in under 140 characters is lazy.

The benefits of contemplation through narrative offer another story.

The benefits are plenty, which is especially important in a distracted, smartphone age

in which one-quarter of American children dont learn to read.

This not only endangers them socially and intellectually, but cognitively handicaps

them for life.

One 2009 study of 72 children ages eight to ten discovered that reading creates new white

matter in the brain, which improves system-wide communication.

White matter carries information between regions of grey matter, where any information is processed.

Not only does reading increase white matter, it helps information be processed more efficiently.

Reading in one language has enormous benefits.

Add a foreign language and not only do communication skills improveyou can talk to more people

in wider circlesbut the regions of your brain involved in spatial navigation and learning

new information increase in size.

Learning a new language also improves your overall memory.

In one of the most fascinating aspects of neuroscience, language affects regions of

your brain involving actions youre reading about.

For example, when you read soap and lavender, the parts of your brain implicated

in scent are activated.

Those regions remain silent when you read chair. What if I wrote leather chair?

Your sensory cortex just fired.

Continuing from the opening paragraph, lets discuss squats in your quest for a firmer

butt.

Picture the biomechanics required for a squat.

Your motor cortex has been activated.

Athletes have long envisioned their movementsSerena Williamss serve; Conor McGregors kicks;

Usain Bolts bursts of speedto achieve better proficiency while actually moving.

Thats because their brains are practicing.

That is, theyre practicing through visualization techniques.

Hard glutes are one thing.

Novel reading is a great way to practice being human.

Rather than sprints and punches, how about something more primitive and necessary in

a society, like empathy?

As you dive deeper into Rabbit Angstroms follies or Jason Taylor coming of age, you

not only feel their pain and joy.

You actually experience it.

In one respect novels go beyond simulating reality to give readers an experience unavailable

off the page: the opportunity to enter fully into other peoples thoughts and feelings.

This has profound implications for how we interact with others.

When encountering a 13-year-old boy misbehaving, you most likely wont think, Well, David

Mitchell wrote about such a situation, and so I should behave like this, but you might

have integrated some of the lessons about young boys figuring life out and display a

more nuanced understanding in how you react.

Perhaps youll even reconsider trolling someone online regarding their political opinion,

remembering that no matter how crass and inhumane a sentiment appears on screen, an actual human

is sitting behind the keyboard pecking out their thoughts.

Im not arguing against engaging, but for the love of anything closely resembling humanity,

argue intelligently.

Because reading does in fact make us more intelligent.

Research shows that reading not only helps with fluid intelligence, but with reading

comprehension and emotional intelligence as well.

You make smarter decisions about yourself and those around you.

All of these benefits require actually reading, which leads to the formation of a philosophy

rather than the regurgitation of an agenda, so prevalent in reposts and online trolling.

Recognizing the intentions of another human also plays a role in constructing an ideology.

Novels are especially well-suited for this task.

A 2011 study published in the Annual Review of Psychology found overlap in brain regions

used to comprehend stories and networks dedicated to interactions with others.

Novels consume time and attention.

While the benefits are worthwhile, even shorter bursts of prose exhibit profound neurological

effects.

Poetry elicits strong emotional responses in readers and, as one study shows, listeners.

Heart rates, facial expressions, and movement of their skin and arm hairs were measured

while participants listened to poetry.

Forty percent ended up displaying visible goose bumps, as they would while listening

to music or watching movies.

As for their craniums: Their neurological responses, however, seemed

to be unique to poetry: Scans taken during the study showed that listening to the poems

activated parts of participants brains that, as other studies have shown, are not

activated when listening to music or watching films.

These responses mostly occurred near the conclusion of a stanza and especially near the end of

the poem.

This fits in well with our inherent need for narrative: in the absence of a conclusion

our brain automatically creates one, which, of course, leads to plenty of heartbreak and

suffering when our speculations prove to be false.

Instead we should turn to more poetry: There is something fundamental to the poetic

form that implies, creates, and instills pleasure.

Whether an Amiri Baraka verse or a Margaret Atwood trilogy, attention matters.

Research at Stanford showed a neurological difference between reading for pleasure and

focused reading, as if for a test.

Blood flows to different neural areas depending on how reading is conducted.

The researchers hope this might offer clues for advancing cognitive training methods.

I have vivid memories of my relationship with reading: trying to write my first book (Scary

Monster Stories) at age five; creating a mock newspaper after the Bernard Goetz subway shooting

when I was nine, my mother scolding me for thinking about such things; sitting

in the basement of my home in the Jersey suburbs one weekend morning, determined to read the

entirety of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which I did.

Reading is like any skill.

You have to practice it, regularly and constantly.

While I never finished (or really much started) Scary Monster Stories, I have written nine

books and read thousands more along the way.

Though its hard to tell if reading has made me smarter or a better person, I like

to imagine that it has.

What I do know is that life would seem a bit less meaningful if we didnt share stories

with one another.

While many mediums for transmitting narratives across space and time exist, Ive found

none as pleasurable as cracking open a new book and getting lost in

a story.

Something profound is always discovered along the way.

How to decorate candles with paint - Duration: 11:20.

Hey everyone! In this weeks craft video I'm gonna show you 3 ways to decorate candles with paint.

It's fun to do and they make great gifts too!

Of course you're going to need candles.

The first candle we're going to make is a marbled candle.

You'll need a container that's big enough to fit your candle in, marble paint, a toothpick,

rubber gloves and some water.

Grab your candle and if you'd like to, you can cover the wick with some tape,

if you don't want paint to go on it.

Fill your container about half way with water and put on your rubber gloves.

Shake the paints before use.

Add the first color to your water. Make sure you spread it out so that it will

cover the entire length of your candle. Add a few drops of a second color here and there.

Keep adding more colors until you have the color scheme you're going for.

[music]

Carefully drag the toothpick through your colors until you get the marble effect

effect you would like to see on your candle.

[music]

Grab your candle and slowly roll it through the paint. As you can see, the

candle picks up the paint and there's hardly any paint left on the water.

In my case the container wasn't big enough to cover my candle completely in one go.

That's absolutely fine, you can do it in multiple steps.

You can add new paint on top of what's still left in your water, or you can

clean the water up first by going through it with a Q-tip, which is what

I'm doing here. Add new paints to the water, create a design with your toothpick

and roll the uncovered part of your candle in it.

[music]

Repeat these steps to cover the top part of your candle as well.

[music]

Let dry and try not to touch it until it is completely dry, as the paint can be

pretty sticky while it's drying and touching that can ruin your design.

Once it's dry you can light it and enjoy your beautiful marbled candle!

[music]

The second candle we're going to make is a chalkboard candle.

You'll need chalkboard paint, painter's tape and a makeup sponge or paintbrush.

Add some shapes to your candle with painter's tape. I'm going to add two geometrical shapes.

[music]

Shake and stir your chalkboard paint well, dab your makeup sponge into it and

dab it onto your candle.

The painter's tape is just to get a clean edge. I prefer using a makeup sponge over

a brush, because it applies the paint nice and evenly.

[music]

Let the paint dry and add another layer.

[music]

Once that's dry, remove the painter's tape. If some of the edges aren't perfectly

clean, carefully scratch them with your nail to clean them up.

Add two layers of chalkboard paint to the top of your candle.

Since my design is very simple, I'm gonna use the tip of my sponge

as a stamp and stamp some rectangles onto the candle.

Once that's dry you can use a chalkboard marker to write or draw onto your candle!

This is so fun and cute, don't you think so?

[music]

The third candle we're going to make is a 3D effect candle.

All you'll need is 3D liner, aka puffy paint. I'm going to make my candle very colorful, so I'm using 10 colors.

Shake your 3D liner paints before use. Draw directly onto your candle and

make the design you want.

I'm doing random things here with all of my colors, because I'm going for fun and colors.

But adding just one color and an intricate design, like a henna pattern for example,

would be very beautiful as well.

You'll need to stop a few times to let what you've done so far dry

for a little while, as otherwise you'll probably touch wet bits and ruin

your design. You could also place your candle onto a manual sculpture wheel or lazy suzan.

That way you wouldn't have to hold the candle.

[music]

Let it dry for at least a couple of hours before handling it. The 3D paint

will stay raised and gives a lovely effect!

How to Holo - 100% Holographic Nails - Holo Powder - Duration: 10:36.

hey guys welcome to my channel if you're new welcome and if you're not thank you

for returning please don't forget to hit the subscribe as well as the bell and

then you'll know every time we post something if you hit the like then we

can post more movies like this so I've noticed that holo is all the rage

right now even holo makeup which to be honest the only true holo part about

it is the packaging but can you do it on yourself come on along I'll show you how

to do holo nails and we'll test it out and see a couple different ways see why

some ways don't work and why other ways do here we go

alright guys so for today's hollow nails I'm just going to use some nail rounds

and I'm going to use my little LED light this one when I was buying it I did not

notice it only plugs in as USB so I'm going to use my computer my laptop to

plug it into to keep it running I do have a UV light also and that one works

just as good but that one takes two minutes to cure and this one only takes

a minute and even though it's only a minute let's face it I don't have the

patience for it alright okay we're all set up we're ready to start I'm going to

start with just a plain nail round so what I'm going to do is I'm going to put

a base gel coat on it and then we're going to cure it and then we're gonna

try it I like we're going to put a top coat on

because we're not going to need the base so I'm going to be using the oceans of

beauty sparkling Co top coat and I'm just gonna put a layer on this one right

here I like to have thin layers because I feel like it stays better and dries

faster now I'm going to take my LED light and I'm going to cure it I'm just

marking the nail that we did since they're still all gonna do me remaining

clear with this you only want to about 20 seconds so it still has that little

bit of a tacky that's good I usually only do about 15 and then you're gonna

open up your holo this is also sparkling COs holo oops

sorry guys I'm still getting used to where to hold it okay I really like the way they

send it and I'll show you why after we do this okay

now this part still quite a bit on there so what I'm going

to do is I'm going to take just an eyeshadow applicator and these are the

ones that typically come in but nobody uses so save those and you can just dip

in the top see how much I got on there though that's still-

sorry about that

guys I ran out of room on my card okay so I have this one marked so I'm just

gonna rub this on there rubbing little circles you can put a little bit more on

if you want look how pretty that is now that's with no color underneath alright

guys so does it make a difference if there's color underneath the holo or

not that's what we're gonna find out next what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna put

a color down let's start with life of the party and we used to this one in the

Valentine's Day nails so I love this one it's very pretty

but I have a hard time using glitter gels I don't know if you can do them the

same way you do other regular nail polish glitters but yeah this next one is

kind of like a hot orangey reddish hot pink it's called make you blink pink I

love this one actually this is the one I tried to do right before my daughter was

born five years ago but she came before I was done with my nails alrighty

so then we'll follow it up with this light purple and it's called it's a lily

and the last color will do is night reflection it's a very dark plumy

purple oh no we have to do black black is one of the well-known colors

that you do with it and for the black I have sparkling Cos black just so you

know this movie is not sponsored I use a good majority of gelish and sparkling

and Co polishes and accessories in general just because those are the ones

that I've run across that I really enjoy I'm gonna try out some Kiara Skye brush

saver and base here soon with my next dip so we'll have to see how we like

those and I can let you know about those also okay so we have a thin coat of

every color we're gonna go ahead and put it under the light and cure it for one

minute so here's a quick look at our colors

after just one coat I'm gonna put one more coat on of each color and then I'm

going to cure it for a one minute and then we'll come back and we'll try and

holo them here we go alright so now we're going to do a top coat with a

sparkle and coat gel top coat this is a no wipe top coat which is something you

definitely need if you're going to do hollow I'm going to put a thin layer on

each one of these

and the layer of topcoat that I'm putting on is very thin I'm not putting

on much at all I am making sure the entire nail is covered all right now

it's gonna go back into the LED light this time it's only going to be in there

for about 20 seconds 15 to 20 seconds

okay now I'm setting that aside and I have my holo powder here I'm gonna

take my eyeshadow applicator and I'm gonna dip in and then for each one I'm

just gonna rub in little circles no one's not dried quite enough so let's

go back in for five seconds I don't know if there's any salvaging that one so

that's what's gonna happen if you don't have it cure long enough before putting

on the holo okay so let's try this one I

had to try one more time to fix this sparkly pink so I gave it another shot

it did seem to stick a little bit better so we'll see how it turns out after the

topcoat all right so here it is pre topcoat so I'm going to topcoat it I'm

going to cure it and we're gonna check it out one more time

all right here they are so it's really cool you can kind of see the color that

was underneath we had black dark purple sorry I started watching Nashville my

husband's aunt recommended it to me and so I started it and it took me like ten

episodes to get into it and now like that's all I want to watch but sorry so

we had the black the dark purple we had our like pinkish purpley color our hot

pink are reddish reddish orangish pinkish and our one that we did without

properly drying it and then our no color so that's really cool that they show up

and still have some of the color underneath there I really like that so

if you want a blue tone you can have a blue tone underneath there if you want a

pinkish tone you could have a pink tone underneath

there very very cool oh my gosh ever since I saw the holo I've been in love with

it and I've been wanting to try it more and more with it so we'll give it a

couple more tries we'll do a couple different things with it

but for today we're gonna try just one more thing what we're gonna try and do

they recommend that you do it with a no wipe topcoat so we are going to try it

with a topcoat that does need wiped off and we're going to see what the

difference is and how it effects it okay okay here we go all right so we will

just go next to this black one so this topcoat has sparkles from me previously

using it as the very top coat and not doing holo with it but painting over the

holo to seal it in and but I think it'll still give us a good result on what

would happen okay so we're going to cure for one minute No 20 seconds it's

working okay it kind of clumps up a little bit rather than going on nice and

smooth um I don't think it totally doesn't work I just think it doesn't

work as well let's put the top coat on and we'll see so now that you guys know

how into Nashville I am what shows are you guys into I didn't used to watch a

lot of TV I do watch it more so I'm curious like what shows I should be

checking out I've watched I watched Gilmore Girls

just because I wanted to watch the new Netflix a year in the life but I don't

know like I was okay with it acting was I don't know how to explain

it let me know what should I check out what do you guys like what are some

things that you watch in all honesty it kind of turned out better than the

original one that we did with the no white topcoat I'm kind of confused about

that so obviously I'm not a nail tech I'm just somebody that enjoys doing

nails and I find new things and I try them out and I see what works best and I

share them with you guys if you are a nail tech or you have tried this out let

me know in the comments below let me know why the one with that wipe coat

worked better than the one with the no wipe coat when the no wipe coat is the

one that suggested but I think that just looks really awesome I'm really in love

with the holo and how it looks so next time that we're

going to do the January ipsy bag since we didn't get to do December's I want to

bring my daughter in before the year is over and do our ipsy bag and then we will

try a couple different things with the holo so come back don't forget to check

those out and I hope you guys have a great day and come back next time thank

you so much for taking the time to watch this and we'll see you guys next time

bye guys

tiger blossom I don't know why it's not focusing trust me on that name you don't

need to be that close to my face not this time around I'm sorry my light

keeps going in and out and I don't know why
