Boosting Black Ops 4 FPS on a low end PC. What can you do? | Tested on i5 750 + GT 710 - Duration: 6:07.

For the last 2 or 3 entries in the call of duty series the configuration file for each

individual game looks kinda like this:

A gargle of numbers and offuscated variables that took hours to untangle only to realize

that the engine really does not like any values outside what usually happens on the settings

screen.

So when the Black Ops 4 beta rolled around the config file looked like this:

It's so... so beautiful.

And some of those variables could be pushed to some really interesting limits so I patiently

waited for the game's full release to start working on this video and...

Oh Black Ops, we were doing so well.

So, is the configuration file still useful if you want to get this game working under

the minimum requirements?

A bit, enough for a short video, let´s look at what you can expect from this game on a

low-end PC.

After you have dropped all the settings to the lowest

you will find the configuration files in the player folder in the install directory of the

game.

There are two seemingly identical files and you need to change both equally.

Both are called config.ini and one in the root player folder and the second inside a folder

called as your player ID.

A full copy of my file is in the description but you will likely notice that every line

is commented with all the options available for each one.

So you can go through the variables in graphics and check which ones you need to change and

drop them further.

Heck, you do not even need this video.

In all seriousness, the biggest changes you can do are making sure that the baked sun

shadows are dropping as much as possible by setting this to 1

and if dynamic shadows are enabled you can control the resolution of them with this two

lines or just disable them

with fx_shadow on 0 and the two disabled dynamic shadow variables to 1.

You can also set auto_cull_radius to 10 to increase the number of pixels culled, as I

said this file is extremely well commented and each explanation tells you what needs to be increases

or reduce for more performance.

Finally, you have our old friend internal resolution.

As you have probably heard before internal resolution, here called Render Resolution,

basically allows the resolution of the 3d elements in the game itself to be different

from the one in the user interface so you can essentially use a lower resolution without

affecting UI text.

The ingame settings only allow a drop to 50% of the external resolution, something that

is becoming more and more standard in the last couple of years.

Thankfully this is controlled with the resolution_percent variable with can be dropped up to 30%.

Now with it set to 35% I was curious to see how the game would fare on a setup under the

minimum requirements, which for my test was a first generation i5 750 and a passively

cooled GDDR5 gt 710.

Traditionally Call of Duty modes work in small highly optimized and quick maps, and the classic

multiplayer game does not disappoint with performance between 30 and 60 depending on

the circumstances but always enough to play, just not enough to help me with my legendary

lack of skill and experience in Call of Duty.

Come on! Oh my god! That was... Ahahaha.... I had forgotten how...

Oh Call of Duty...

Blackout mode is more difficult to tackle.

This is Black Ops response to the rising popularity of Battle Royale and as such has a huge world

with weapons to loot that shrinks as time passes and that gives it a significantly different

performance profile than the rest of the game.

My gt 710 is barely able to keep over 20 fps on the worst circumstances but still manages

to somehow be playable.

However, it is worth noting that the game does stress the GPU heavily when loading new

chunks of the map which can lead to temporary dramatic drops in performance that reside

once the map is loaded.

You can still play at this level, although as usual how much you are willing to tolerate

is up to you.

It was easier to engage enemies in low resolution in traditional deathmatch versus the long

distances of Blackout, especially considering how fast the gumplay can be compared to other

battle royale games.

The One Letter In The Alphabet Most Of Us Can't Write - Duration: 3:22.

The idea that there's any letter in the alphabet that most people can't write is pretty insane.

We spend an obscene amount of time learning the alphabet, after all, writing out every

letter over and over again until they're all perfect.

"I hate cursive and I hate all of you!

I'm never coming back to school, never!"

But when researchers from Johns Hopkins University published the results of a very strange study,

they revealed that when they asked people about the two forms of the lower-case "G,"

most failed.

Almost none of the subjects could write the second form, and some even denied that there

were two different versions of the little "g" … despite seeing it all the time.

"Well who are you?"

"That's the letter g!"

"I didn't ask you Gooster!

I was asking the funny shaped kid."

Anyone who writes the lowercase "g" by hand is most certainly writing what's called the

opentail g.

It's the one everyone is taught in school, so it sticks in the brain.

The other is the looptail g, and that's the one that's used in most print media, particularly

those that use ultra-common fonts like Times New Roman.

It's common in books, Time found that 74 percent of children's picture books use it, it's in

89 percent of kids' chapter books, and a whopping 97 percent of adult books use it … but our

brains are apparently incapable of remembering it.

Researchers put their subjects through a series of tasks, including one as simple as picking

the correct looptail g from among several incorrectly written ones.

Most couldn't.

How the heck can we not recognize a "g"?

Part of it might be the fact that most kids aren't taught to write the looptail g, and

lessons focus on the opentail version.

That means the looptail version becomes more of what Time calls a "stylistic conceit" than

a letter.

We only need to recognize the former, not write it ourselves, so lazy human brains just

don't bother.

Researchers suggest this is a huge deal for a few reasons.

They suspect children who have reading difficulties from a young age might be getting stumped

by this pretty common letter.

Let's face it, it doesn't really make sense to teach kids to write one way and read something

else.

It also makes them wonder just what it says about how we retain information.

If we see things all the time, we should remember it … right?

But for some reason, we're constantly exposed to this one pesky letter and the shape just

doesn't stick with us.

"I'm glad you brought that up, because Mr. Reynolds...science is a liar, sometimes."

So, where did this rogue "g" come from, anyway?

The Atlantic found that the cryptic, mysterious, seemingly invisible looptail g is the original

version.

It's been tracked back to eighth-century monks who spent their entire lives praying, copying

religious texts, and praying some more.

The style of writing they used was Carolingian script, including the weird "g."

Anyone today who thinks the looptail g is unnecessarily complicated agrees with the

monks.

By the 15th century, monks and scribes had turned the very pretty letter into a sort

of shorthanded version of itself, and it's what kids are taught in their penmanship lessons

today.

It stuck, mainly, because the printing press was invented around the same time that the

opentail g took its place in Gothic script.

When books were printed, they used Gothic letters that looked similar to handwriting.

Check out any of the Gothic family of fonts today, and they still use the opentail g like

the one that's written by hand.

What gives?

When the Renaissance rolled around, people wanted to revive the old ways, including Carolingian

script.

That became the go-to for printers because it looked fancy, but when it came to writing

by hand, people went the easy route.

Who knew there was so much to learn about a single letter?

Can You Beat Fallout 4 Without A Pip-Boy? - Duration: 14:57.

I've beaten Fallout 3 as a baby.

I've beaten Fallout New Vegas by only moving backwards.

I've beaten Fallout 3 without taking any damage.

But today, we take it up a notch.

Can You Beat Fallout 4 Without A Pip-Boy?

The first thing to think about is SPECIAL stats.

It takes time to level up and assign more points into SPECIAL down the line to get access

to certain perks.

And this is where I first fucked up.

I assumed I'd be stuck with my fists as my only weapons, so I put 9 points into Strength

and Agility, and put the rest in Endurance.

The Great War began, I rushed to the vault, got frozen, then thawed out, then froze again

before waking up and beginning the adventure of a lifetime.

I got the 10mm Pistol and it was automatically equipped, something I forgot about.

Putting all those points into Strength may have been a mistake.

Oh well, I'm not going back.

There it is, the vault door.

You might be thinking that I'm going to use console commands to just remove the Pip-Boy

after escaping the vault.

I got 2 words for ya: Fuck.

That.

We don't need the Pip-Boy to escape.

We just need our old friend cone.

Pick up an object, back yourself into a wall, look down, and start jumping.

If you do it right, you'll start sliding up the wall.

It took me about 30 minutes to do this.

Eventually, you'll line up just right and will clip over the vault door.

After that, you're home free.

Fresh out of the vault, my first stop was at Sanctuary to use the You're Special book

and talk to Codsworth.

Before I left the vault, I noticed a few things.

1) You don't need a Pip-Boy to use Stimpaks or Radaway.

They're set to specific keys.

Bring up your Pip-Boyless arm, press a button, and you're healed.

2) The 10mm Pistol is automatically favorited, so you can swap between unarmed and the Pistol

on the fly.

By now, I found Dogmeat, who will be my item mule for the foreseeable future, and moseyed

my way to Concord, where the Minutemen were being picked off like fish in a barrel.

I dealt with the Raiders, picked up the Fusion Core, and went up to the roof.

I used the Power Armor to pick up the Minigun, then exited the Power Armor.

With the Minigun automatically equipped, I could use it to make quick work of the remaining

Raiders as well as the Deathclaw.

Dogmeat went and made a mess of himself, but he recovered.

I spoke to Preston and made sure the Minutemen would be at Sanctuary Hills.

You might be wondering why the game looks a little barren.

It's not a mod.

The only mod I have increases the amount of blood.

Several months ago, I was playing around with Fallout 4's .ini file.

One of the things I did while in that file was disable grass.

So, that's why it looks the way it does.

Moving on, without a map, I made an educated guess as to where Diamond City was.

I was actually looking for Park Street Station so I could rescue Nick Valentine.

I'd have settled for either of them.

Well, I took a wrong turn or something because I wound up in the Glowing Sea.

Don't waste your time asking how the hell I got so far off track, because I have no

idea.

A not insignificant amount of time later, I was inside the city proper.

Not Diamond City.

Heavens no, that's still a ways off.

I encountered Brother Simon, who led me into a trap.

I wasn't about to hand over all my stuff, so I killed him and all of his followers,

expending all of my ammo in the process.

The good news is that, unlike Fallout New Vegas, you can bash people with your gun,

which sometimes gives a really satisfying animation.

Oh yeah, that's the good shit right there.

Several Raider deaths later, I found myself at Bunker Hill.

Not exactly where I wanted to be, but I could buy some ammo and sell other weapons to get

a few caps for the road.

After consulting the map that came with my Limited Edition Fallout 4 guide book, I figured

out what direction to go and finally made it to Diamond City.

I used the old cone trick to try and sneak over the door, which didn't work.

Inside Diamond City, I sold more stuff, bought more ammo, swapped out Dogmeat for Piper,

and started searching for Nick Valentine.

It took quite a while, but we made it to Park Street Station.

I upgraded my Pistol along the way, increasing its damage a bit and giving it a scope.

The Triggermen in the station weren't particularly tough, most could be taken out with one or

two headshots.

Many of them were using 10mm Pistols as well, so I got quite a bit of ammo.

I also picked up as many Submachine Guns as a I could to sell later on.

The next obstacle was the Vault door.

You need a Pip-Boy to open it, and I don't have a Pip-Boy.

Turns out, that's a lie.

Because this is what happened.

I can assure you that I was as surprised and confused as you are.

As I recovered from the mind-fucking I had just received, Piper and I cleared out the

Triggermen and rescued Nick Valentine.

Skinny Malone and his gang were no more.

I followed Nick back to Diamond City because I didn't want to get lost again, leveled

up again, and answered his questions.

After some convincing, I got Kellog's house key from the Mayor's assistant.

Then I forgot the key and had to go back up to his office to get it.

Once inside, Nick, Piper, and I did some snooping around and found a few clues.

The hunt is on.

I somehow managed to lose Dogmeat several times while he tracked down Kellog to Fort

Hagen.

Inside the Fort, we cleared out the synths, picked up a bunch of junk, and confronted

Kellog.

Fighting someone who's using a Stealth Boy is a real pain in the ass, so I VATS'd his

ass before he could say a word.

I pocketed his brain, watched as the Brotherhood blimp arrived in the Commonwealth, and made

a be-line straight for Goodneighbor.

That was a waste of time because you need to speak to Nick Valentine again, before you

can enter Kellog's brain.

So I dragged myself to Diamond City, spoke to Nick, then returned to the Memory Den.

Just to be clear, I'm leaving out a lot of small things.

Telling you about the 15th time I fought Raiders while going somewhere would get boring real

quick.

I convinced Doctor Amari to send me into Kellog's memories, skipped almost all of them, learned

about Virgil out in the Glowing Sea, checked up on Nick, and prepared to journey south.

I bought a hazmat suit and then remembered that I couldn't even use it, but I kept

it anyway.

With a solid stockpile of Stimpaks and Radaway, I began traveling southwest.

Surprisingly, the radiation wasn't that bad.

There were a few spikes here and there, but it was at about 1 rad per second for most

of the way.

I had also taken a perk that grants me +10 Radiation Resistance, which probably helped.

As I neared Virgil's cave, I stopped inside Sentinel Site which was boring and disappointing,

almost as much as Fallout 76.

I left Piper to deal with a Deathclaw and arrived at Virgil's cave.

He explained that I would need the kill a Courser before I could get into the Institute,

which is exactly what I did, though I did spend far longer than I should have trying

to throw a bowling ball into some pins.

I geared up, entered Greentech Genetics, and took the fight to the Courser.

I killed the Synth girl he had, because no loose ends.

From there, it was back to Goodneighbor to sell everything I picked up and upgrade my

Pistol again.

Then more science mumbo jumbo from Doctor Amari.

She pretty much told me that I needed to exterminate the Railroad.

And who am I to argue with a Doctor.

I figured out the Railroad's password, hint: It's not a reference to Thomas the Tank

Engine, and wasted little time.

I fired randomly into the darkness, striking Desdamona with a bullet.

Glory, Deacon, and other Railroad members all fell before me.

Before moving into Railroad HQ proper, I gave Piper some better, more fashionable armor.

When all the screaming stopped, I was able to decode the Courser Chip.

And…

I had to return to Virgil.

Great.

Back through the Glowing Sea.

The inability to fast travel was really starting to get annoying.

But, this is the only way to move the main quest line forward, so I did what had to be

done and lied to Virgil about getting his serum.

I had no intention of helping him in any way.

From there, I returned to Sanctuary Hills.

I read a guide which said that siding with the Minutemen is the fastest way to complete

the game.

But, in order to reach the end-game with them, you've got to enlist 8 different settlements

to join the Minutemen.

So that's what I did.

Well, I started it, at least.

I went to Tenpines Bluffs and dealt with them.

Unfortunately, they decided against joining the Minutemen.

The rest of the settlements could wait, it was time to get building.

I'd been hoarding junk in preparation of this quest.

I had everything I'd need to build the signal interceptor.

I built it, powered it up, stored what I could in a footlocker, gave my Pistol a new name,

and teleported into the Institute.

With the network holotape ready to be returned to Sturges, I could confront Father.

I listened to him talk for a while before stealthily killing him.

I wouldn't return to the Institute again, so I decided to kill.

As.

Many.

Innocent.

People.

And Synths.

In.

The.

Institute.

As.

I.

Could.

So I decided to kill as many innocent people and synths in the Institute as I could.

It went pretty well, until it didn't.

I made my escape and was greeted by, uh, these fine gentlemen.

Let me tell you, I was not at all prepared for this kind of a fight.

Even with a perk that increased Pistol damage and increased my damage resistance significantly

while standing or sprinting, I was in over my head.

I landed headshot after headshot after headshot.

I went through nearly 70 Stimpaks.

But they just kept coming.

Eventually, after burning through all my ammo, I made it to the last elevator.

Guess what was waiting for me.

With no ammo left, I tried as best I could to make it past them.

All I had to do was sprint to the teleporter and I'd be home free.

But, there were just to many.

I physically could not make it through them all.

So, I reloaded an old save, offed Father, and left.

After returning to Sanctuary, I decided to help out a few settlements.

As I swam through a river, I pulled up the perk chart to distribute a few perk points.

Wait… did you see that?

When I pull up my arm, I can change the hotkeys.

Good lord, I can use the Pip-Boy even if it's not there.

This changes everything.

I made it to land, got a Combat Rifle from Piper, and, for the first time in almost 10

hours, equipped a weapon that wasn't a 10mm Pistol.

This is gonna sound melodramatic, but I can't describe how amazing it felt to be able to

use other weapons.

I went back to Sanctuary to upgrade my arsenal.

A double barrel shotgun, a combat rifle, and a hunting rifle were all specced out to the

best of my abilities.

Also a missile launcher.

I fumbled around with the non-existent Pip-Boy and was able to assign them to my favorites

bar/menu/thing.

I felt like a God among insects.

The next few hours were filled with a lot of walking to and from various locations,

with firefights sprinkled in there.

Even with all these new toys, I found myself still using Larry's Revenge for many of

the encounters.

Probably because it was silenced and, with a sneak bonus, was capable of taking out Raiders

with one or two shots.

After helping out 3 or 4 settlements, it was time to take back the Castle.

With my missile launcher and new array of weaponry, the Mirelurk Queen didn't stand

a chance.

Ignore the fact that it killed me a few times.

Then, more settlements.

It was kinda boring, until I ran into a problem.

Not a game problem, a system problem.

I use an iMac to make these videos and OBS to record everything.

Well, somehow an image from the OBS preview window got burned into the screen and started

flickering.

Going from Windows to MacOS didn't fix it.

Resetting the System Management Controller didn't fix it.

Resetting PRAM didn't fix it.

Luckily, after leaving it off and unplugged for 12 hours, the problem resolved itself.

Back in the game, I was in the home stretch.

I helped out the last few settlements, met up with Ronnie Shaw at the Castle, set up

the artillery, and prepared to defend the Castle.

This was a little rough.

Probably because I just set up a bunch of turrets in a single spot.

What's worse was that went through so much ammo taking out all those Synths and Coursers.

But, when the fighting stopped, I finally got it.

The Nuclear Option.

The last quest in the main quest line.

We're in the end-game now.

Sturges explained the plan.

What I heard was that I get to play in the sewer system again.

I began the walk to the C.I.T Ruins.

Knowing that this was essentially a one way trip, because I wouldn't playing after this

quest is over, I ignored all the enemies and creatures along the way until I made it to

the ruins, and entered the pipe.

With Larry's Revenge firmly in my grasp, Piper and I eliminated the few Synths that

stood in our way and entered the Institute.

I loaded the holotape into the terminal and teleported my backup inside to fight by my

side.

And of course, when I talked to Preston about our game plan, another quest took precedence

and he thanked me for helping out a settlement.

From there, we made the final push into the Institute.

Turrets, Synths, and Coursers all stood in our way, and one by one they all fell before

me.

Not even the fake gorillas stood a chance.

An upgraded 4-crank Laser Musket named Sandy was an effective killing machine.

I passed by Father's corpse, which was still as fresh as the day I killed him, and did

as I was instructed by Sturges.

A wave of Synths coming from all directions put up a valiant fight, but it was not enough.

We reached the reactor core.

In my preparations, I dug out an old friend from Piper's ass, or wherever she puts things,

equipped it, and fired away.

I had saved every Mini Nuke I found for this occasion.

There were a few stragglers, but they didn't stop me from placing the charge on the reactor.

Sturges teleported us to a safe distance, I obliterated the Institute, and beat Fallout

4 without a Pip-Boy.

Holy hell, this took way longer than I expected, which is part of why I've been avoiding

Fallout 4 for a while.

The funny part is that there wasn't really any part of the game that was too challenging.

With my Agility so high, I was able to sprint passed Radscorpions and Deathclaws in the

Glowing Sea.

I could still use Stimpaks.

And my 10mm Pistol was effective against all but the toughest of enemies, like Super Mutant

Butchers or Deathclaws.

Really, the challenge isn't even a challenge, it's an annoyance.

The inability to Fast Travel was the thing that sucked.

But even that wasn't hard, it was just monotonous.

And that, at long last, is going to do it for this video about whether or not you can

Can you drive your BMW M car in the winter time? I have the e60 m5 here

with the S85 v10 engine this thing produces over 500 horsepower so can you

drive a 500 plus horsepower super sedan or super saloon car in the winter time

there's definitely some things to consider and we're gonna walk you

through that today I know with this m5 this car has in fact been driven in the

winter time but there's some things that you must consider number one is the

hardware up to snuff first of all you have to understand this car with the SMG

transmission or even a manual gearbox can be challenging a lot of times these

cars are like an on/off switch and so engaging and disengaging to find that

optimal point of traction is very very difficult and often very difficult on

the clutch so that whole issue about traction becomes a question and a

serious question in fact for these cars so you have to consider tires that's the

first thing you need to consider when buying or when utilizing your m5 or m6

or any other rear-wheel drive em car for the winter time tires and so if you look

down here I'm gonna show you these are the tires that I'm using right now

these tires I've yet to put them on but I am running the bliz acts so these are

a Bridgestone Tire and they're blizik LM 60 of course now these car these tires

here are actually an 18-inch rim a duplicate to the factory wheels that I

have actually on the car over here which is a 19-inch wheel that's the factory

19's this is the 18s looks identical just the diameter is a little bit

smaller on the 18s obviously and that's partially because it's easier to find

tires at 18 inch then it would be for the 19's a little bit cheaper too so

we've got the blizzaks LM60 so these are the tires now you have to consider this

is a winter tire of course you'll notice winter tires are by their very nature in

most cases are unidirectional so they have to go

in a certain fashion of course what makes them a winter tire of course are

these nice little sipes these little tiny little ridges these have a way of

grabbing and dissipating the snow and the moisture as well as do a better job

of gripping the ice these are a must if you do not have these you're not capable

of driving this car properly in the winter time and how do you know that

it's a winter tire you'll have this symbol here it's the snow symbol the

snow and ice that means this is a dedicated winter tire it's a must-have

in these cars you use the factory tires the summer tires you're going to be all

over the place it's dangerous it's hazardous and more importantly you just

won't be able to move as a matter of fact I got caught here one time before

winter and I hadn't put on the winter tires yet and the car was down on the

driveway I really couldn't get it up on into the

garage even at a slight incline because even just slightly the tires all he do

is to slowly spin and of course the wider the tire the more the power and

the torque the less chance of you gripping the road and of course you need

to have those grippy winter tires for this car now of course the other thing

to consider if you have a car with traction control like the e60 m5 has a

factory traction control system that does a pretty good job of keeping things

at bay you need to keep that enabled as well as disable any power options you

don't need to run in M mode when you're running in winter time all that's going

to do is accelerate the urgency of the shifting and the transmission pickup

that's just gonna make it even more difficult to engage as you accelerate

and move away so do not drive in M mode that's just going to be a lot worse

another thing that you have to consider of course is this oil and we all know

that I've had a lot of discussions around rod bearings and these e60 M fives

this here is the factory oil that I use yeah it's a synthetic but look it's a 10

W 60 the problem with this is you would not use a 10 weight oil in any car so

why would you use it in the M car if you're driving around in weather of

say -20 - 30 degrees which is very possible in these parts I know even in

the northern US a lot of the states have temperatures like that you cannot use

this oil well you can but at obvious detriment to your engine of course when

you consider winter driving you're not only considering traction and all those

factors you're also considering what is it doing to the engine the transmission

all the fluids that you run have to be taken into consideration when you're

driving in winter for example you're driving this in winter you have to

consider maybe a zero weight or a five weight now the problem with because

these cars are known for rod bearing issues using these in the winter anyway

has its obvious detriment to a car - these cars in particular the S85 engine

why well because we know that there's a few factors that go in to the rod

bearing problems number one is the extremely tight tolerances and that is

just exaggerated by the fact that the oil that they spec is too heavy and of

course the warmup period is extremely critical and if you don't do that

properly that's as well going to add extra wear

so there's a few things of course if you're running the car in very cold

weather that's going to take much longer to get the car up to warming and

operating temperature so that's even more important the lighter weight of oil

is much much more important even yet so that's extremely critical that you run a

lighter weight oil for winter driving run the winter tires run the traction

control on but that will get you on your way and once you do that this car with

nearly 50/50 weight distribution can be a lot of fun yes you can drive it in the

winter time I've driven this car in the winter time and it actually works ok as

long as you follow those guidelines now the other thing you have to consider

when driving these cars in the winter time now fortunately a lot of these car

parts on this car are made out of aluminum not everything is some of the

panels are aluminum some of them are plastic and of course some of them are

steel now with that we have to consider corrosion now I know a lot of

Provinces here in Canada as well as probably in Europe I would imagine

there's countries that utilize similar products certainly in somes US states

particularly some of the northern US states will use gravel on the roads for

traction in the winter time for people that don't prepare their cars properly

for winter it helps for additional traction not only for taking off they

don't just dump gravel at the intersections they dump gravel all along

major roadways to keep fire cars from skidding off the road so there's gravel

that is on these roads as well as a lot of states and provinces as well use

products that are either sprayed or laid on the road to help assist ice melt so

the roads become less icy to travel on and so the application of these salty

products or any of these other corrosive products does a real number on your

paint and it does a real number of course on the metal underneath it's not

just the surface metal that takes a hit often because the moisture and the and

the slop that you find in the winter time driving often you get water in

behind the fenders and you can't even clean a lot of those areas so sadly

enough often rust sets in from the backside and you don't even know about

it until five six seven years down the road and it's too late then the car has

started to rust and then you might as well consider you know what that car has

hit beater status so you have to consider whether your car is up to snuff

for taking on rock blasts because driving on a roadway with lots of gravel

will subject your car - lots of gravel splatter of course from adjacent

vehicles driving by and the salty road conditions that will of course initiate

the rust process for a lot of these cars now again as I said before there's a lot

of cars that are made out of plastic or composites or aluminium and rust is less

of an issue but again the gravel blasting that your car is subjected to

take a real toll that being said with that you're gonna look at changing your

windshield very regularly probably once you know every year or every two years

your windshield will be changed as well as your hood and your fenders and your

mirrors are likely the best protection for them is to be

putting on some sort of a clear coat paint protection film like a 3m product

or expel or one of those products that does a number on preventing the actual

rock from penetrating the paint job and creating an ugly paint so if you are to

consider driving your car in the winter time you need to consider a lot of

How Parents Can Help Their Children Cope With Divorce - Duration: 13:10.

Divorce can really take a toll. And it affects kids too. Let's talk today about

how parents can help their kids deal with their divorce. Believe it or not,

divorce is probably just as hard on kids as it is on their parents. And I'm

starting to say that. But that is true. And in my experience in working with

kids, there are some things that we can do as parents to help our children deal

with our divorce. So that it doesn't affect them as negatively as it might

otherwise. Let's put this in a top 10 list. Starting with number 10, believe

that your kids can handle it. Kids are amazingly resilient. What we

believe about that as parents affects our behavior toward them. When we believe

that they can handle it, we treat them differently than if we think they can't.

Or if we're constantly trying to apologize for or make up for the way

we've just ruined their life. Let's get past that and understand that they can

handle it. We're going to give them the resources that they need and we've still

got 9 more in our countdown. So let's go to number 9. Do not talk badly

about the other parent. Notice that I didn't say do not talk badly in front of

the children about the other parent. Yeah, we're taking

this to a higher level. Do not talk badly about the other parent.

Period. There's a lot of good reasons for this. I have seen children damaged even

though they didn't directly hear the negative comments because it changes the

energy of the entire family dynamic. And more importantly, it changes you. It gets

into your mind in a way that can be harmful to your kids. Now, that leads me

right to number 8. Don't even think badly about the other parent. Yeah, you

thought number 9 was tough. Try this one on. You've had some thoughts,

haven't you? Yeah, you have. And you're human, okay? We're going to give you a little

bit of a pass there. But only long enough for you to see that you're doing this.

This is huge in terms of creating a positive response for your kids. If

you're busy with all the angry, vitriolic, nasty thoughts going on in your

own mind, that will affect everything that you do.

Including your relationship with your kids. But I'm also talking at work. I'm

talking in your hobbies, I'm talking in your finances and all of your other

relationships. You can't isolate this thing and have the poison going on over

in this part of your brain While everything else is roses and tulips. No,

We got to clear out the poison. So, number 8 is don't even think badly about

the other parent. Now, let's go into number 7. Focus on your job. Your job

as a parent is to love these kids no matter what and even if. That is your

primary job as a parent. Don't get distracted by, "Oh, my job is to protect

them from the evil X that I'm soon to be divorced from." Or it's to make sure that

they don't get unduly influenced by that other parent. No. Put all that to rest and

get back to your job which is to love them no matter what

and even if. Take this from the kids perspective for a minute. From the

hundreds of kids that I've interviewed in child custody cases, common fear is

that their parents will somehow stop loving them. And this makes sense from a

child psychology point of view because if these two people who are together and

supposedly love each other, makes some kind of a choice where they no longer

love each other. What does that do to me as a child as my mom or my dad gonna

stop loving me too? See, you can see why they have this fear. They need to have

the reassurance that you as a parent will love them always in forever

no matter what and even if. Now, step up with me to number 6 on our countdown.

Reassure the kids that you, the adults (Plural) will handle all of the tough

questions. Like where they're going to live? How much time they're going to

spend with each parent? How they're going to make sure they have their stuff where

they need it, when they need it? Reassure the kids that you as the adults

are going to handle all of those tough issues. It is way too much of an

emotional burden for a child. And you know what? I would say this is true of

teenagers too. It's too much of a burden to have them call the shots. I'm

thinking of a friend and associate Frank Abagnale. You probably remember him from

the movie Catch Me If You Can. And Frank shared with me when he was on my podcast

the thing that tipped him over the thing that was the difficult trigger point

that sent him into that early life of crime was when he was asked point-blank

by a judge, "Which of your parents do you want to live with? Just give me a name."

That's way too much of a burden. He took off and became one of the most notorious

con men of all time. Since reformed and he's doing some amazing work serving

humanity and a lot of really cool ways. But that was too much for even

a teenager. What about for younger kids? Let's not place the burden on them. We

got to get past our own issues as adults to where we can take care of things for

our kids in a way that's going to make sense for them. Reassure them that you've

got this. And that kind of leads right into number 5 because parent issues

are not kid issues. Parent issues are not kid issues. The things that you're

worried about are not the same things that they're worried about. It's easy to

project that, you know? Because we get kind of selfish and narcissistic in our

own world and we think that the whole world is revolving around us. And we lose

sight of this. Your kids aren't worried about the same things that you're

worried about. The same things that you're fighting about with the other

parent. So, while you're thinking about well, "How many days am I going to have

the kids?" or "What's the child support arrangement?" Kids aren't thinking about

that. Kids are thinking about, "How am I going to get to my soccer game on

Saturday? What am I going to do about that math test that's coming up on Tuesday?" I

tell you what. If they're thinking about your issues then we're doing something

wrong and we're involving them way too much in the divorce dynamics. So keep

that in mind. Parent issues are not kid issues. Let

your kids be concerned about what they're concerned about and let's not

project our issues on to them. Which moves us right on up to number 4.

Coming in at number 4 on our list is take care of the problems in your world.

Most of the things you get concerned about (Be honest about this) are going on

in a world that you don't own. Picture one world that through separation

becomes two worlds. We can call it mom's world and dad's world. That's just a

simple way to label it. 2 very different worlds. Well, which one is the

kid's world? Well, picture kind of an intersection between those

two worlds. The kids live right there in that shared space. They belong in both

worlds. Most of the stuff you are concerned about is going on in that

other world, right? Yeah. You don't like the way that he does this. You're not...

You're not supportive of how she's handling that. Okay, right. You've got 2

very separate worlds. Handle the problems in your own world. That's where you have

at least some control so you want to take an approach where you're creating

the most sane, stable, loving, friendly environment that you possibly can in

your own world. You don't control the other world

so it's healthy for you to let that go. And I know you're thinking at this point,

"But Dr. Paul, it really is a problem over there." Right. And you don't have any

control. And to the extent that you try to take control over the problems that

are going on over there in that other world, you will create conflict, you will

create problems that then you and your children need to deal with. And I know,

yeah, yeah, I get it. It's a real problem but you don't have

control. So we're going to focus only on those things that you've control. You

create the most sane, stable, loving environment that you possibly can in

your own world. Got it? Okay. Now, we're up to the top

3. Coming in at number three on our countdown, stay in agent mode. Quick

explanation, there are only 2 choices you're going to be in victim mode. I call

that noxious and negativity or you're going to be in agent mode. I call that

pathological positivity. You got to pick one of those. And if you're blaming or if

you're saying I can't or if you're slipping into scarcity, that's all victim.

Stay in agent mode for yourself, for your kids. This is the

only way you get to be in control of your life without letting the X or the

circumstances or whatever determine how you feel. Right along with that is number

2 on our list. Take good care of yourself. So your kids don't have to.

They're worried about you. Especially if they're old enough to understand what's

going on. Kids get in this awkward position sometimes where they feel like

they have to take care of their parents. Not healthy. Not going to be good for you

either. Take good care of yourself so your kids don't have to. And number 1,

big surprise. Practice positivity. It is what it is.

I know it's hard, I know it's painful. I know that there's special circumstances

that are going on in your life. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I get all of that. No matter what's

going on in your life, you have the power to remain positive no matter what. If
