This study on the Tithe
It was inspired as a result of a response from an acquaintance of ours
a young men
and his answer made us think a lot
as we all know, we have to talk about the love of God and Christ
to all creatures we know
and so we have done or tried to do for all these years
Fausto, a friend of ours was the trigger for this study
He was very sad and depressed
and we told him to come to church
to seek God
and he answered us
I work very hard, to allow them to steal my money!
How sad to hear that!
How many souls are lost for God
Fausto will be right, really?
they are stealing our money?
or we will continue to answer that the heart of Fausto is in the money!
It is really the money for God?
or for the authorities of the Church?
or is it that the Church authorities have the heart on money?
In this study we will see the definition of the word Tithe
and its beginnings
we will see the first tithe mentioned in the Bible
and Melchizedek
We will see very detailed Deuteronomy14
where God says how to tithe, where and when to give it
We will speak in detail about the Book of Malachi
and we will be surprised at how deceived we were for so long
It's that people do not read the Bible
and them have taken advantage of the phrase or verse where it says
Will a mere mortal rob God?
we will see what that Jesus said about the tithes
What is the Alfoli really? (spanish word for storehouse)
Who are the Levites?
We will see the priests of nowdays
what do they do with the money?
and many other questions that many people have on this issue.
I have to admit I was afraid to do this study
but the truth will set you free!
and the Word of God is true!
So do not be afraid and listen to this video, complete.
The word tithe comes from the Latin, Decimus
or Tenth
and was a 10% tax that usually applied to the production or trade
and charged in ancient republics, monarchies and lordships
It is believed that gave rise to the institution of the finance or the Public Treasury
or like the IRS in the United States
or the Internal Revenue Service where taxes are charged to citizens
its origins are believed to come from ancient civilizations, such as Greece and Egypt
Rome used the political or civil tithe
and that was the Roman tax system
when Rome declaring Christianity as official religion
the ecclesiastical tithe began
that is, the tithe of the Church
Initially a private Christian practice
and voluntary
But in the 6th century they began to officially collect tithe in the Christian kingdoms
It was starting with a sermon of San Cesareo, Bishop of Arles
and it was a strict obligation to tithe
In the Old Testament
tithing
It was how to sustain the Tribe of Levi
they could not receive or possess land inheritances
or have any property
to them inheritance was the 10%
of what yielded the produced by the crops and cattle of the other 11 tribes of Israel
The Levites were dedicated to managing the tabernacle of Yawhe
until it became the First Temple and then the Second Temple in Jerusalem
and among some of its mandatory use of tithing
It was to help widows, orphans and foreigners or immigrants
As we see, the tithe was exclusively for those who served in the Temple of Jerusalem
and they had to be from the tribe of Levites
ie Priests
In the New Testament, no tithes were given to the Apostles
because they belong at the time, they had the Temple
they were contemporary to the Temple
they tithed for the Temple
they were 100% Jewish
and they knew their duty
They could not accept any tithe
because they would break the Law of Tithing
they were not priests or Levites
what they was accepted was money to help poorer congregations
Tithing was exclusive to what God stipulated
You can not replace Levites and priests
for what we now know today as pastors, priests, fathers, Apostles
The temple no longer exist
Today, Jews do not tithe anymore
They keep your Synagogue and the Rabbi (teacher)
with a fixed fee for all members of the Synagogue
an annual budget is made and they divide the costs among all
The first tithe mentioned in the Bible is in Genesis 14:20
and chronicles the war between 9 kingdoms in Asia Minor
5 Kings against 4 KIngs
those who won the war took Lot as a prisoner
who was the nephew of Abraham and his family
Then Abraham and 318 men
they went out to their rescue
and they won the battle
recovering all goods, persons, Lot and his family
When Abraham returned from the war he met with the king of Sodom and Malki Tzedek
King of Shalem (Yeru shalayim)
The name Salem means Old Jerusalem
and priest of God Most High, the Bible says
He brought bread and wine and blessing Abraham said:
Blessed be Abram by God Most High
Creator of heaven and earth
And praise be to God Most High, who delivered your enemies into your hand
Then Abram gave him a tenth of everything of all the booty
Did you hear well?
I said booty, not the fruit of his work
maybe he gave it as an habit or gratitude for the words of Melchizedek
To the King of Sodom, the Bible goes on to say
Abraham returned to him his goods
and the souls that he saved, so as it says in the Torah
It is that the king of Sodom asked him to return the people
who had been captured in the war
At that time, the people remained as slave of the winner
Abraham not only gave back his people, but also his goods
the Bible does not specify or detail whether Abraham used to paid tithes to Melchizedek
if He paid only 1 time
or he gave part of the booty of War
I repeat, booty of war, no fruit of his labor
in gratitude for the words of blessing and the reception he had with bread and wine
Recall that, speak words of blessing or cursing at that time, it was common
we can conclude that Malqui-Tsedeck pronounce blessing to Abraham
It means friendship between these peoples
and remember that, not only he gave 10% of the loot, but returned all goods to the King of Sodom
ie was very generous at the moment
so give 10% of the booty I do not see anything weird
but it could be only once, since it is not mentioned in the Bible other payment to Melchizedek
what is mentioned about Malqui-Tsedeck in the comments of the Torah, Genesis 14
and it seems like a clarifying that Abraham is more than Malqui-Tsedeck
It reads:
In the Torah, which is the Hebrew Bible
when they want amplify some information
they put a number next to the word
and down the page are comments
then we see that Melchizedek has a comment below that says:
Before Abraham there were isolated monotheistic nuclei
Hanoch and Noah, were monotheists
Malqui-Tsedeck King of Shalem was a priest of the Most High God
but Abraham had more than all of them
his revolution against paganism that opened to humanity
new Horizons
and provided sacred ideals
and continues
The patriarch Abraham took upon himself the holy mission to mark the development of the world of ideas
and lay the foundations of belief in the one God, immaterial and Universal
that's why Abraham is considered the father of monotheism
Those who know us know that our videos and studies and what we say
we back it up of the Bible in the Reina Valera Version in Spanish
In English we use the King James
and the Tanakh and the Hebrew Torah
Now let's talk about the tithe
It was Deuteronomy 14: 22-29
but we will read from Hebrew Torah
The Hebrews call the word Deuteronomy, Devarim that means Words, and says
Certainly set apart the tithe of all the increase of thy seed that the field produces year by year
and thou shalt eat before the LORD your God
in the place which he shall choose
to place his name dwell there
The tithe of your grain, your wine
your oil, the firstborn of your herds and flocks
so you learn to fear the LORD
But if the way is too long for you
so you could not carry, for being too far from you
the place that the LORD your God, chose to put his name there
for the Eternal your God will bless you and you will have abundant production
Then you will turn the tithe into money and tie the money in your hand
and shall go unto the place which the Lord thy God shall choose
and you'll spend that money on everything your heart desires
in cattle greater or less
in old wine or anything that your soul desires
and thou shalt eat there before The Eternal your God
and you shall rejoice, you and your household
and to the Levite that dwells within your cities, you shall not forsake him
because he has no part or inheritance with you
At the end of every three years, you will take the entire tithe of your products from that year
and deposit them in your cities in storehouses
and the Levite will come, who has neither part nor inheritance with you
foreigners or immigrant
the orphan and the widow that dwell in your cities
and eat and be satisfied,
for that the The Eternal your God bless you in every work that your hands do
At the end of every seven years you will do Sabbatical year ( you must cancel debts)
And this is the way the Sabbatical year
All certain creditor who lender his companion, neighbour shall cancel any loan
will not require payment of his companion or his brother, for having reached the Sabbatical year, for the Eternal
You can ask the idolatrous foreigner to pay the debt
but whatever is in your brother's hand you will leave it
doing this will no poor or needed people among you
for the Lord shall greatly bless thee
in the land which The Eternal your God gives you for an inheritance to possess it.
Let's analyze all this
It does not say give tithes every Sunday
says, of what produces in the year the field
and details cereal, new wine , old wine
oil, cattle, there were other professions
but only he speaks of people who had land
In the comments of the Torah clarifies that the firstborn of cattle
They were for the priests
remember that they must sacrifice as an offering the best animals
Why said, if the road was very long?
or also says, wherever place God chose
what does that mean?
Remember, that the people spent 40 years in the desert
but they were also traveling to the Promised Land
and where the cloud stopped, that was the place
many were left during the crossing
in cities or conquered populations
That's why he says, if it was far from where they lived, they had to sell everything
Note that there was silver or money
but clearly says that you would buy again everything you liked, in the right place
they all carried the tithes to one Temple
and when the Temple of Jerusalem was made, they went to that Temple to carry the tithes and enjoy it
Noticed they were to eat them, to rejoice
You and everyone, including the Levites, widows, immigrants, orphans
does not say that the tithe is only for the Levite or preacher
and to remember who it was! Who gave you all that blessing!
In the comments of the Torah clarifies to whom they tithed annually
and the cycle was 7 years
1st year was First Tithe to the Levites they gave it
2nd, 4th and 5th year for yourself
3rd and 6th year to the Levites, and all poor dispossessed, pilgrim or imigrante, orphans and widows
The 7th year you did not have to give tithes and there was forgiveness of debts
when he says you will not abandon the Levite
the comments make it clear that it was addressed to those who did not give their first tithe, previously mentioned
How wonderful God we have!
His law is always fair
Is the man who changes everything
God allowed us to buy and enjoying ourselves
that we should eat that tithe with others
Only asking you to remember who was the one who gave you those blessings
the producers sold their products, their cattle
all went to the tabernacle and praised God
it was important not to abandon the Levite, because they did not own anything
They had no other work, served only to God
So, as they did not own anything, and therefore has no property, nor to sustain themselves
remember that they ate of the tithe all that work for God
the foreigner who today would be the immigrants who did not have work
The orphan, today we see many children and adolescents in the streets
and widows, they did not have retirement, no inherited properties and could not work
How wonderful and just God!
and also forgive us our debts!
Remember, there was money, but money was not what was give
Remember what God said, if it were far, sell everything, and buy it again
Interesting, God already knew that money corrupts, and them give misuse of that money
therefore, it was food products that had to be tithed
An example of the misuse of money is in the Bible in Matthew 27
where he talks about the 30 pieces of silver
with which they paid Judas's betrayal
Do you want to know where they got them?
from the charity for poor
it was the money from the offering for the poor
Here we see clearly of misuse of that money
it was for the poor, not for treason
Now we'll see what Jesus said about some scribes and Pharisees,
they tithed
But they believed that tithed pleased God
it will be?
Jesus says in Matthew 23:23:
"Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites!
You give a tenth of your spices--mint, dill and cumin.
But you have neglected the more important matters of the law
justice, mercy and faithfulness.
You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former.
Remember that Jesus came to fulfill until the last tittle of the Law
but in the New Testament does not say that we have to give tithes
And now let's talk about Malachi
The book of Malachi has only 4 chapters
and in my Bible is a page and a fourth
Read it, do not be afraid
Malachi, is not a name of a prophet
means my messenger, my envoy, my Angel in Hebrew
His book is in the collection of the 12 minor prophets
and there is a debate about the identity of the author of the Book
Malachi in the Talmud is identified as Mordecai
and the Targum identified with Ezra
Others observed affinities between the 2nd part of the book of Zechariah, chapters 9 through 14
It is believed to have been written in Jerusalem about the year 460 BC
and the book is about and seemingly firsthand
about abuses in management, the recently restored Temple of Solomon in Jerusalem
Malachi in this book rebukes priests
and speaks of the love of Yahweh (Lord) to Israel
Speaks about hate and separation from their wives and divorce, see 2:16
Talk about Jesus in Chapter 3
He speaks about of the Temple tithes and ends with the triumph of the righteous in the day of Yahweh
Then do not be afraid and we will read important parts of the book of Malachi
Then do not be afraid and we will read important parts of the book of Malachi
to see where are the keywords
and what does all this mean
1st verse says:
The burden of the word of the LORD against Israel
by Malachi
Malachi rebukes priests
they were to present offerings or burnt offerings to the LORD
from the best animals
but instead, they offered a lame or sick animal or with imperfections
Instead other nations was offered incense and a pure offering to the Lord of hosts
then he tells to them:
And now O priests, this commandment is for you
If you will not listen, if you will not take it to heart to give honor to my name,
says the LORD Almighty, Lord of hosts
then I will send the curse upon you
and I will curse your blessings.
Indeed, I have already cursed them, because you do not lay it to heart.
Behold, I will corrupt your seed,
Behold, I will corrupt your seed, and spread dung upon your faces,
even the dung of your solemn feast
and you will be taken away with it.
So shall you know that I have sent this command to you,
so that my covenant with Levi may continue
says the LORD Almighty.
My covenant was with him of life and peace
and I gave them to him for the fear wherewith he feared me,
and he feared me
and before my name he was humiliated
(He is talking about Aaron and his family, the priests)
The law of truth was in his mouth
and iniquity was not found in his lips:
he walked with me in peace and equity
and did turn many away from iniquity.
For the priest's lips should keep knowledge
and they should seek the law at his mouth:
for he is the messenger of the LORD of hosts
But you have turned from the way
and by your teaching have caused many to stumble at the law
You have corrupted the covenant I made with the Levites, says the LORD Almighty.
Malachi 3:7 Ever since the time of your ancestors
you have turned away from my decree
and have not kept them
Return to me, and I will return to you,
said the LORD of hosts
"But you ask, 'How are we to return?'
Will a man rob God?
Yet ye have robbed me
But you say, Wherein have we robbed thee?
In tithes and offerings
You are cursed with a curse
your whole nation--because you are robbing me.
remember, Malachi was talking to Israel
Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse
that there may be food in my house.
and prove me now herewith, says the LORD of hosts
if I will not open you the windows of heaven,
and pour out for you a blessing until it overflows.
The Malaquias's storehouse, has no similarity
with the structure of the Church of Today
It was no meeting place
It was not a place of worship
It's not a box, basket, chest or coffer where the money is collected
It was a warehouse or barn
to store decimated products
and there will be distributed to the Levites, widows, foreigners and orphans
When He said, I was robbed in tithes and offerings
The offerings was the animals that the priests offered in burnt offerings
and they was sacrifice the sick animals, instead pure offering to God
It does not refer to money
Tithes were food to fill the barn or storehouse
ie the warehouse where the Levites ate food and other
Tithes and offerings were made at that time, at the only temple in Jerusalem
The Christians of today
We are not obligated to keep the specifics details of the law of tithing
for example
the percentage, where to deliver it , where eat it with our families, etc ...
Recall that Malachi was written for Israel and the priests
Centuries have been spent manipulating people with that verse
and they do not teach that was for the priests
These manipulators were only stumbling blocks for thousands of people
They do not go to church, because they say, they are not stupid
nor are they let them steal the sweat of his brow, as my friend said Fausto
Pastors and ministers of nowadays have their own houses
lands, cars, salaries and even private airplanes
It is assumed that according to the law of tithing, they could not have any property
obvious
in comparison with the ancient Levites who had nothing of their own
The early Christians was own willing selling everything and distribute to the poor
The Ministers of nowadays, have own checking accounts, own Churches
and they own the buildings of some churches
WITH TITHE MONEY
when you should be of the Congregation
No Personal or Family Patrimony or Heritage
Nor sell the Church to other Pastor
or directly, sell the building and keep the money
Why they do not return tithe given by the faithful for the purchase of the building
The sons of pastors, should will be Pastors, without heritage or ownership, as were the Levites
After all, they say they are Levites, then they should follow the same laws and their sons should also be Levitas
They just want the benefits, but not the obligations
Those ancient Levites are no longer any more, after the destruction of the 2nd Temple by the Romans
Tithes were distributed among the Levites and needy
Nowadays, the Pastor or Minister receives their salary
But teachers, missionaries, musicians, ushers, drivers, doormen, janitors, Deacons, singers, sound engineers and those who cleaned the church and other
They do not charge anything, in the majority of churches
The authorities say, the others have to do it free and for God
Why they do not do also free, and for God, or voluntarily as they want others do
It is a priestly vocation?
Or a well-paid job?
I have to admit I was afraid to do this study
But every day I meet more and more of the Word of God
I see a righteous, omnipotent, wise and good God.
If we follow His laws and advice who give to us, we would be much better
no needy, no abandon children on the streets
since we must help the orphan with the tithe and all those in needy
Praise God, because the truth will set you free
Brothers let yourself be guided by the Holy Spirit of God
God will guide you how to give and to whom give
Each one should give what he has decided in his heart to give
not grudgingly, or of necessity
for God love a cheerful giver.
says in 2 Corinthians 9: 7
that it is a contribution of free will, do not feel guilty, or that you steal from God
But remember, in the house of prayer where you congregate
They have to pay for electricity, rent and other expenses
Also in 1 Corinthians 9: 13-14 says:
Do you not know that those who perform sacred services eat the food of the temple
and those who attend regularly to the altar have their share from the altar?
So also the Lord directed those who proclaim the gospel
to get their living from the Gospel
to finish this study we can say
Unfortunately, my friend Fausto was right
they are stealing our money using the tithe
and I say this because we see poor and needy on the streets
we see orphans, as we said before
we see that widows or abandon mothers do not have money to pay rent or food often
they can not keep their children because they can not get jobs or who care the child meanwhile her get job
So the conclusion is: Yes they are stealing our money
because only they use it for their salaries and personal expenses
Now let's do a study summary
some pastors say, we are not in the law but Abraham gave tithes before the Law
lie
That was a booty, tithe from booty
the Bible does not say how many times only mentions 1 time
and it was from booty and not the result of work
It was only once, because there is no other record in the Bible
Malachi, will a man rob God?
We saw the whole chapter
He are talking of the priests who were stealing their offerings
the best animals they sold to the highest bidder
and they were slaughtering sick animals rather than the best
Malaquias then he told the priests, they are robbing me offerings
I would like to add, because we do not read the Bible we are also guilty
It is very easy and very comfortable, we get carried away and not read
also we have done
we also be victims of this guilt that we have had and them taken the money, just like you was victim
because it is very sad to be told you have to give God because you are robbing God
Who is the one who is stealing and to whom?
nor because we give tithes, we will remove culpability
only the blood of Christ cleanses us of sins, because you tithing is not going to clean anything
and to conclude I exhort you to read the Bible, go over all these verses we have given them
Read the chapter of Malachi that is short
and you will find the truth
And the truth will set you free. Blessings.
