Que pasa oelewappers, welcome back to a brand new video in this video
I'm going to explain why people in the Netherlands speak English very well
We are on number two of the best english-speaking countries in Europe
Only Sweden is on top of us research states
That's 90% to 93% of the people in the Netherlands speak English
However, speaking a language doesn't necessarily mean they speak it fluently
Of course the more time you spend in learning a language the better you speak the language
Although there are people like Louis van Gaal and they think they can speak English
But they really suck
and then we can say, ok. We have the spirit now and we go
looking at
Upstairs and not downstairs. I went to an elementary school for children with special needs
So I never actually learned English there, but when I went to high school, I learned my first words in English
It was quite hard because English was my first new language
I never learned a different language before and learning English
From a non English country is a very big step
You literally start at level zero like a baby and because I came from a special-needs school
I had a very big backlog in comparison to my classmates. So yeah, I needed to do extra classes after school
It's not like I was forced to do it. I
Wanted to do it and believe me if I tell you that learning a second language is the hardest thing ever
First of all, the pronunciation of the words were very hard
We were forced to speak English with a British accent and believe me if I tell you that I really suck at British English
I speak American English because the words are way easier to pronounce pronouncing
The words was hard in the beginning, but when I got the grip on it
It was quite easy and I was ready to make sentences now
This is the second thing that is very hard when learning a new language
For the first time the grammar
What I wasn't aware of is that when you learn a new language, you can't use the grammar of your own language, for example
The sentence I'm getting late for school in Dutch
It would be ik kom te laat op school when you literally translate it from Dutch
It would mean I come too late on school
It was hard for me to get through the process of changing the words and putting them in a different order to make it sound
Right it took me about six months to get a grip on it
and in my first year of learning English
I learned how the English language works and how to make sentences using good grammar
But here comes the thing it took me seven years to speak English fluently and to make my accent sound normal
There is a very logical reason for that. No joke at all. I'm not very smart
I went to a special needs school for a reason. I did an IQ test when I was 14 and I
Really pushed myself to the limit. But yeah
my IQ is still
75 I am able to learn stuff but it takes way more time than for other people from my age back then I was watching
This youtube channel called Smosh and they had really funny YouTube videos
They had like 2 million subscribers
Back then and back then YouTube wasn't really a big thing in the Netherlands and the Dutch
Youtubers who were active by the time didn't even reach
100,000 subscribers simply because the target audience wasn't big enough and even nowadays most of the youtubers don't even reach
500,000 subscribers
Simply because this country only contains 17 million people
So the reason why I pushed myself to speak English was because I wanted to be a youtuber for the english-speaking
Audience and I'm not trying to be a show-off, but from where I've been through I make very big progress now
How did I work on my vocabulary in those seven years the anime community
might get triggered by this one, but I've been watching Naruto in English dubbed. season 1 of Naruto has I guess
220 episodes. I mean from what I can remember and I stopped watching Naruto at season 2 episode
170 or I don't know and back then I was also on this website called chat roulette
Which is omegle at this moment on that website, you can talk to random people from all the world
So I worked on my English pronunciation
With actual English people. Sometimes they were laughing about a mistake
Sometimes they got angry, but the thing is that I've learned from my mistakes. And yeah, that's what it's all about
For example, I was talking about Russia and I accidentally said Soviet onion instead of Soviet Union. And yeah
They were laughing at me. back then I was also on this website called memecenter.com
You see the Instagram anime community is filled with suicidal teenagers and Yaoi fangirls
That is not the anime community that I want to interact with on the other side memecenter has an anime community
That is between 20 years old and 35
That is the anime community that I want to join MemeCenter has the best anime community of all and they give really good recommendations
But that is not what this video is about
The point is that because I was texting with these people for such a long time
I also worked on my spelling every time I made a grammatical or a spelling mistake
They corrected me and I said thank you. This is why I hate interacting with teenagers on Instagram
They use bad spelling on purpose and they use this lazy people language called
Internet slang now that is not going to help anybody speak English
I worked on my vocabulary by watching English movies with English subtitles
And it really helped me a few recommendations for beginners are spider-man Harry Potter and the Lord of the Rings
I also played a large amount of video games in English with English subtitles. I started off with a Harry Potter games
And yes, I really recommend those games for beginners
The reason why I recommend them is because they speak English very slowly and very understandable
You ready to do a bit of de-gnoming then Harry. Well, I'm not sure long. I've been with dursleys so much this summer
I'm a little rusty another video game where they speak very slowly and understandable is Grand Theft Auto 4
Assassin's Creed Brotherhood was also very easy to understand as a beginner
Assassin, God will see you pay for your crimes you
have desecrated the sanctity of this holy place you condemn what you do not understand
and I worked on my spelling and vocabulary
With The Legend of Zelda and the Pokemon games for the Nintendo DS now
What is the main factor that makes English easy in the Netherlands in comparison to other countries when you live in Germany
Everything is translated into German when you live in France
Everything is translated into French when you live in Spain
Everything is translated into Spanish when you live in Italy
Everything is translated into Italian when you already have everything in your own language
There is no needs to learn a new language
But here comes the thing when you live in the Netherlands people prefer everything
In the original language sometimes with subtitles in Dutch
But most of the time with no translation at all and don't even start about voice translation
Dutch people hate it and because there are so many
Movies books and music coming from the United States and the United Kingdom people in the Netherlands
learn how to speak English
Very fast and the fact that so many people around you
already speak the language very well makes it even easier for you to learn the language because people around you can give you tips and
That was the video for today. I hope you enjoyed it
If you did, don't forget to like this video and subscribe to my youtube channel, I would really appreciate it
Have a very nice day. Stay appelflap and eat some Soviet onions
Back from being gone, they still fear me. I'm Rico from the DHC on my 180CC
*vroom* *vroom* through your street like a road pirate, I'm ready for every crime because
that joint mixed with teqilla is making me feel good, crazy criminal in the hood
dressed up in black and covered up in a balaclava so I'm ready for the heist
