Should an actor have a business account or a regular account on Instagram?

Let's discuss.

If you're new here, I'm Heidi Dean and I teach you how to rock your social media, make more

connections, and create the #actorslife of your dreams.

Today, we are talking about should an actor have a regular account or a business account

on Instagram.

There are a lot of pros and cons, and I'm going to break them down for you today.

Let's stay with the pros for why you may switch to an Instagram business account as an actor.

Pro #1 is you're going to get a direct contact button, so people can actually directly

contact you from your Instagram business page.

This can be useful.

Of course, I do not suggest that you put your phone number there.

Make sure it's a service number or a Google phone number.

You do not want all of the world to be able to contact you through Instagram.

Another PRO for having an Instagram business account is that you get detailed analytics

on your posts, which is really one of the best reasons to switch over to a business

account.

If you have a business account, all you have to do is go into your account, go to the top

right, you'll see three little lines, and then go into "Audience Insights" and you're

going to find under Insights so many analytics that are super, super useful for your account.

In these detailed analytics, it's pretty cool, you can find out demographics, so you can

find out are your followers mostly male or female.

This can be super important when you're creating your posts.

Right?

You can find out where they're located.

You can find out their age.

This is so important because if I find out that my followers are mostly women, they're

in their 30s because they're my age, and they're equal New York and L.A., it means that I can

kind of create posts knowing this information.

In these analytics, another great feature is that you can find out the best time to

post for your account.

They will tell you the days, the best times, and some of this is going to be relative to

the location of your followers, but it's really, really useful advice for you.

Also, you get detailed analytics on your posts themselves, so you can actually go in and

see what are your followers responding to?

This is so important because whatever your followers are responding to, you obviously

should be doing more of that.

The third reason to possibly switch to an Instagram business account is because you

can get that swipe up feature.

And I'm sure you've seen this on Instagram Stories.

You see a post, you see a little swipe up, Jeff saying "look up" or a little "learn more"

at the bottom.

To get the swipe up, you need to have a business account and 10,000 followers.

So if you have a larger account, it may be enough of a reason to switch to an Instagram

business account.

One of the business reasons, I'd say, a lot of actors are switching from an Instagram

regular account to a business account is because you can actually auto-schedule with an Instagram

business account.

To do this you would use a third-party scheduler, like Hootsuite, Buffer, Later, or Planoly,

like you see here, to schedule your posts in advance.

So you could actually be posting in your sleep, posting from rehearsal, posting from set when

you are not actually posting.

It's pretty cool, and I know that auto-posting feature is one reason a lot of actors are

switching from a regular account to a business account.

Now that we've talked about the PROS for having an Instagram business account, let's talk

about the CONS.

There aren't that many CONS right now.

Instagram is making it SUPER attractive to have a business account.

CON: If you create an Instagram business account, you have to create a Facebook page to go with

it.

So for some people, if you are done with your Facebook page, if you don't want a Facebook

page because it's too much, having to create a Facebook page may not be a good thing.

Now, with that said, you can create a Facebook page to connect to your Instagram business

profile, and not use it.

You can put a header at the top that says, "Hey, guys, I don't play here," or "Hey, I'm

over on my Facebook profile.

Go check me out there."

So you don't necessarily have to actively use this page, just know that it is a requirement

that you have a Facebook page if you set up an Instagram business account.

For some people, this would be a CON.

Right?

And the last con, which is not really a con yet, is that we have to remember who owns

Instagram.

Facebook owns Instagram.

About 5 years ago, it was really great advice to tell actors that everything actor

should have a Facebook page, but now, when on your Facebook page, you may get less than

1% engagement on your posts.

1% of your fans may actually be seeing your posts on a Facebook page because of the algorithm.

That could happen in a couple of years in Instagram.

That could happen in six months.

They would just decide, "Okay, guys.

It's time to pay to play."

It's technically not a CON, but we do want to look out for that and be aware of it, that

Facebook does own Instagram, and the business account could go the way of the Facebook page.

If you do want to give the Instagram business account a try, all you have to do is go to

your settings, and then find "Switch to a business profile", and they will walk you

through it step by step.

And if you decide the Instagram business account is just not for you, at least for right now,

Instagram is letting us switch back to a personal account at any time.

Now that you know the PROS and the CONS, hopefully, you can make an educated decision on whether

or not you want to switch.

Hi guys Chelsey Benzel here today I want to

talk to you about instagram

specifically how to grow your following

and expand your reach beyond the people

who are already following you so you can

get in front of people out there who may

not know who you are yet this is a

question that's come up quite a few

times in the last week

whether it's post in my Facebook group

or even with my one-on-one clients so I

wanted to just pull all my information

and share it with you share what I see

working on Instagram and what has been

working for me specifically to grow my

following over the last little while

yeah I'm really excited to dive in but

first some quick introductions if you

haven't met me yet my name is Chelsey

Benzel I am a business coach for coaches

and online entrepreneurs who have

something amazing to share with the

world but maybe just need a little bit

of help getting their message out there

in front of the right people I'm also

the host of the Soulpreneur Society a

private Facebook group for female

that's it as you're coming on if you're

it's with a reaction or a comment or

whatever that's just gonna help more

people see this and get more out of

their Instagram okay so the three key

ingredients to expanding your reach and

growing your following on Instagram key

ingredient number one is your overall

grid and the aesthetic or the look and

feel of your actual profile so you want

your pictures that you post to have a

consistent aesthetic or look so that

when someone lands on your page they're

gonna see right away what kinds of

things

host and what your images are going to

be like and they can decide pretty much

right away if they're gonna want that to

show up in their feed you don't have

much time on Instagram really anywhere

in the online world people are scrolling

clicking around pretty quick here and

there so you want that first impression

to be made right away and to do that

this is a really good opportunity to

think about who is your ideal client who

is your ideal follower on Instagram what

kinds of things are they gonna want to

see what kind of colors do they like

right down to the the types of quotes or

words that you might share on on your

images it's a good opportunity to look

at what they want but of course it's

also your Instagram it's your profile

and it's your place to shine and share a

little bit about you so don't be afraid

like if you love pink and purple and

sparkles then make that your Instagram

and you're gonna find the people who are

gonna resonate with you the best way to

map out your photos and your grid is to

use a scheduling app so that you can map

everything out and see how it's gonna

look all together so there's two that I

recommend I personally use later if you

go to later calm or just in the App

Store or wherever

download the later app or another one

that I've used is called preview both of

them are gonna allow you to pull in

images that you might want to use and

then you can test it out in your grid

and see how things are going to look so

that you can intentionally design that

look and feel of your Instagram posts so

that would be the the thing you want to

do here is be really intentional about

what you're going to share make sure

your images look good together there's a

consistent flow maybe there's lots of

space between the images and the colors

look good all together maybe you use the

same filter on every photo that's a good

way to kind of bring it

everything all together what you don't

want to do is just post randomly without

paying any attention to how things are

all going to fit together so most often

this happens when you haven't posted in

a while and you're like oh my god I

gotta get something up there

so you just post whatever it is thinking

better than nothing right and you know

there is some truth to that that you

just you want to be visible and you want

to show up but this is we're taking that

time to be a bit more intentional maybe

at the beginning of the week you carve

out some time to plan your posts for the

week ahead and you know what they're

gonna look like you know how they're

gonna fit together both the apps that I

mentioned later and preview are gonna

allow you to do that and to see it in

advance I will admit it does get a

little bit addicting and I probably

spend more time planning up my grid than

I do actually on Instagram but it's a

good way to really make sure that your

brand message gets across visually in

the images that you share on Instagram

okay so key ingredient number two are

your captions so like we just talked

about and everyone knows Instagram is

very visual it's all about those photos

and getting people in based on what

you're sharing what pictures you're

sharing but once you've attracted them

to you you want to make sure that those

people actually want to stick around and

engage with you get to know you share a

little bit about them and kind of create

that community feel within your profile

engagement is the name of the game and

just like I said at the beginning of

this video the more you comment and like

and whatever on a Facebook post you know

Facebook and Instagram are pretty much

one in the same these days the more that

your post gets engagement specifically

comments and I think there's something

new around like the length of the

comments so if you can get real comments

from people your posts are gonna be

boosted up on the algorithm and get

front of more people so a good way to do

this in your captions is share stories

share a glimpse into your life into what

you've got going on whether it's your

personal life your business or whatever

it is that your brand is based around

and then if you can turn it around and

make it about them somehow give them a

reason to engage by including a call to

action at the end then you are golden

that call to action at the end is it's

often one of the things that gets missed

but we write this whole caption we hope

people are gonna engage with it

but we never actually asked for it we're

very rarely do we do so I really want to

drive that one home don't be afraid to

be super direct in your captions and say

DoubleTap to like this photo or ask them

a specific question or whatever it is

just really tell them what you want out

of that out of them having read your

post so that would be the do for the key

ingredient number two which is your

captions would be share stories give a

glimpse into your world and include a

call to action you want to give them a

reason to stick around and engage and

they help to get that post seen by more

people if you need some inspiration with

what you can sort of shape your captions

around a few that you can think of our

behind the scenes like sharing a story

sharing something that's going on in

your world it can be inspirational to be

funny the educational like a mini how to

post but one thing I would say you don't

want to do with your captions as try as

much as you can not to come off super

preachy this happens a lot when people

just share their tips or their

strategies or their insight without

really giving the background into why

you're saying not like an example could

be there's a quote a year from now

you'll wish you started today okay

that's true and that's great and I love

the inspiration but it's

one that I follow and I'm I feel

connected to because I follow them and I

see them TSA's into their life here and

there but then they just throw this like

wisdom at me it almost doesn't land very

well it's like you can't imagine you

can't expect that you are gonna know

what's best for every single person who

sees your post so for a bad example a

year from now you wish you started today

share a story like if that if that same

post came with a caption around how a

year prior someone who's feeling super

unmotivated but they did it anyway and a

year later they're like miles ahead of

where they were of LA blah blah it's

like sharing that story and sharing that

insight it allows me to have so much

more connection with that person with

that post so that would be my don't four

ingredient number two and your captions

try to always share a story so you don't

come off as preachy and think about why

people are scrolling in the first place

like more often than not they're taking

a break from their everyday life and

they're scrolling through looking for

some inspiration or some connection and

nine times out of ten people are always

looking or at least open to the concept

the idea that they are perfectly okay

who they are and where they are in this

moment so that's always one that you can

come back to to you know add a little

bit of feel-good vibe to your Instagram

captures key ingredient number three and

I would say the most important one is

your hashtags this is a biggie and it's

not just about the hashtags you use but

it's how you use them so this is what's

gonna determine how how you get in front

of of the people who don't already

follow you and the more intentional you

can do with your hashtags the more reach

you're gonna have and the more people

you're going to be able to attract back

to your profile so what you want to do

is pick a number of hash to

now in 2018 you can use 30 hashtags on

every post in the caption or in the

first comment of your post and you want

those captions to are those hashtags to

relate to your brand you want them to be

hashtags that the people you want to

follow you are already engaging with or

they're aware of but you don't want ones

that are already flooded with posts you

want to look for especially when you're

just starting out the good range is

anywhere from ten thousand to one or two

thousand posts per hashtag so when you

click into the hashtag you can see how

many posts are there and you want ones

that are like not overly use because the

name of the game here is showing up

consistently on that hashtag page or if

people are following that hashtag

they're getting to see your posts over

and over so what you do want to do is

use your groupings of hashtags

consistently you want your post to show

up over and over on that page so with

every post you use if you're using the

same hashtags you're you know that your

posts are always going to show up within

your chosen hashtags if you're feeling

super ambitious you can choose multiple

groupings of hashtags so let's say you

post about different themes maybe

sometimes you post about food and other

times you post about travel so when you

post about food you use your hashtags

that relate to food when you really when

you post about travel you use the

grouping that relates to travel so you

know still and maybe there's a bit of

overlap within those two that's some of

them are the same but you know then that

you're being intentional and you're

getting those types of posts out in

front of people who are interested in

that kind of topic personally I just

stick to one grouping at the moment

that's what

and later the app that I use allows me

to just add those right into every post

the click click of a button it's super

easy what you don't want to be doing

with hashtags is just randomly posting

hashtags just for the sake of it

like maybe you post a quote and you

choose some something relating to the

topic or the message that you're trying

to get across and you hashtag like love

and quote quote of the day pic of the

day whatever it might be you don't want

to just scatter your hashtags around

because your posts are then just gonna

be scattered and not as easily found and

engaged with by the people you're trying

to reach but also if you're using super

common hashtags like the ones I

mentioned ones that have like hundreds

of thousands to millions or more posts

per hashtag it seems like it's a good

idea because those are super popular

hashtags but what happens is your post

ends up there and just gets buried

within seconds and it's just not even

worth it so be intentional be consistent

with your hashtags and it's all gonna

come together to expand your reach so

that your posts are then showing up for

people who you've already chosen you

know that your ideal follower follows

such-and-such hashtags and you are

getting your posts out there visible in

front of them so to recap the three key

ingredients to growing your Instagram

following are your grid making sure your

images are consistent they flow they fit

together there's a cohesive color scheme

or a filter that you use over and over

number two was your caption so making

sure that you're really engaging you're

coming off in a way that is really gonna

bring people in and feel like they want

to engage with you and that you're

straight-up

asking with a call to action to say

leave a comment drop an emoji DoubleTap

to like this photo whatever your

call-to-action is I would say always

include a call to action in your caption

number three your hashtags to help get

your post out in front of more people so

as I said at the beginning I have a

little bit extra Instagram strategy to

share with you but I'm gonna actually

pop on over to my facebook group to dive

in deeper into how you can use hashtags

to use them a little bit more

strategically to show up more up close

and personal with the people that you

want to engage and you want following

you on your Instagram account there's

definitely some ways that you can take

this even deeper what I've shared with

you these three tips are these three

kind of categories you could take this

and run with it and have massive success

So, we analysed her instagram profile and then realised that okay, these are the two looks we are going for.

The first one is her usual very girly look with a pink lip.

Yeah, and really heavy eye makeup.

And then, the second one is cleaner with a glossy finish.

So, we are going for the girly one first, right?

In the last episode we already talked about what is Instagram engagement so you might

have a little knowledge about okay it's about likes comments and saved how about now we

dive into your individual post insights it sounds so scary people! alright, this is not

that scary basically I just try to help you to understand a little bit better about the

insight so what exactly you have in your insight: reach and impression okay so now I'm going

to give you some terminology explanation so what is reach?

reach is basically the number of unique accounts that have viewed your post on Instagram and

how about impressions according to Instagram impressions mean that the total number of

times that people have seen your posts, it has been on the screen on the screen?

yeah but what actually Instagram gives to you is a very impressive data about impressions

so they actually give you five default category the first one is home page home page means

that when people see your post in their home, means that your followers most likely and

it could also be people following any hashtag because Instagram actually suggested posts

from you know hashtag that is ranking at the top to some of these people that are following

the hashtag so the second thing is profile, so people go to your profile and see your

post the next one is hashtags location and search & explore page so apparently, they

made search & explore in one same category there is one more thing that you might notice

which is others others?

yeah, what exactly is others?

Others actually including direct message, sources from saved, and as well as people

tagging you, mentioning you notifications so those are considered as others but a little

trick right here Instagram actually never show all kinds of impressions to you they

usually show the one that is performing better than the others which usually in my case is

profile or hashtags so other than that you might actually see location and explore in

that section, but usually the lower two will be combined together as the others in the

impression section so totally what Instagram will show you is the Top 3 and the others

alright so now I have a little question for you besides the home impression, where are

your majority impressions coming from?

Is that from explore page is that from hashtags or anybody else visited your profile?

so we talked about reach and impressions as I said is actually belongs to the Discovery

category so there is another section above your insights and that is actually called

Interactions so what is interactions?

Interactions has two sections and one of those sections is called profile visits when they

see your post they tap on your name they tap on your username so they go into your profile

they might not engage with you at all and for website clicks which is so easy if you

Well, these people actually clicked on that but usually I didn't get that much of clicks

so which is kind of sad but you know what? we keep improving from that As we talked about

How to Save Instagram Story Highlights - Duration: 2:09.

What's up in this video you are going to learn how to save Instagram story highlights.

So when you're on Instagram and you've posted to your Instagram story you can actually save

images from your story and create different highlights that will show up in your Instagram bio

You've probably seen those little circles below different people's Instagram bios showing their highlights

which is a collection of very specific Instagram stories. So let me show you really quickly how to do that.

To do this you're going to want to open up Instagram and you're gonna obviously need something on your Instagram story

So right here on my Instagram story

I have a little image and let's say I want to add it to a highlight or create a new highlight.

So at the bottom, you're gonna see the little heart highlight button if you press that

You can create a new highlight or add it to a highlight. Right now

I don't have any highlights so I could create a new highlight called

selfies or I don't know whatever you want to call it, and you're just gonna click add,

and now if I go to my profile I can see right there on my profile screen

selfies and anytime I do a new

Instagram story I can add it to that highlight reel or I

can create a brand new highlight reel and add other images to it from my other stories?

So the nice thing here too is I can add some archived Instagram stories

So if you take an Instagram story and you forget to add it to your highlight, you can actually go back to previous

Instagram stories and add them to your highlight reel later on which is really convenient.

How to turn off activity status in Instagram - Duration: 0:41.

In case if you want to hide your activity status in Instagram so as to maintain your

privacy then open Instagram.

Tap on this icon at the bottom here.

Go to menu.

Select "Settings".

Now under "Privacy and security", select "Activity Status" and disable this option "Show activity

status".

So, this is how you will your activity status in Instagram.

Here is a quick way to block someone on Instagram - Duration: 0:39.

If you want to block someone on Instagram then Open Instagram.

Now tap on this search icon and then you can search the person whom you want to block.

For example if this is the person, I will select it.

Then I will tap on this three dotted icon and then I will select "Block" and again "Block".

Now I have blocked this person from my Instagram account.

Tailwind for Instagram Scheduling Demo Video - Duration: 8:50.

Hi, there.

This is Molly Marshall, and today I want to share a demo of my favorite Instagram scheduling

tool, which is Tailwind.

So, Tailwind has actually helped me reach more of my fans organically in the Instagram

feed, and it has saved me a ton of time with scheduling by giving me a place to store my

images, to save drafts of future posts and even to save some hashtag lists and find new

hashtags.

Tailwind can help you to save a lot of time with your Instagram marketing as well, and

I know it can help you reach more of your fans organically in the news feed without

boosting, which I know many people are struggling with right now, and I'm going to show you

how in this demo.

So, here we are on the home page of Tailwind, and you can see here in the upper right hand

corner you can either log in like I will do, since I already have an account, or you can

start a free trial.

The free trial in Tailwind is actually not a time period.

You get 31 posts, so if you're posting once a day that will last you obviously about a

month, and if you post more maybe multiple times a day, your trial will last a couple

weeks, and so at the end of those 31 posts is when Tailwind will ask you to upgrade to

a paid account.

So, let's go ahead and log in.

Okay, so when we are all logged in this is what it looks like.

It dumps us right in to this dashboard that just gives you a quick checkup of how you're

doing on Instagram, but first I want to share with you my favorite feature of Tailwind,

which I've already alluded to a couple of times, but it is the Smart Schedule, so here

in Tailwind the left hand side is your navigation, and your schedule is here under publishers.

You're going to go to publisher and you're going to go to your schedule.

These are the time slots that I have set in advance that I am going to post at, and when

you set up your account for the first time Tailwind actually helps you set up your Smart

Schedule, so this is what I attribute to being able to reach 30% more people in the Instagram

feed, and so this is how the Smart Schedule is created.

When you first set up your Tailwind account or demo, they analyze.

You connect your Instagram account to Tailwind and they analyze when your audience is online

and when they're engaging, and then they tell you what times they think you should be posting,

and so you can see here I told them that I wanted to post once a day and so they put

one time slot per day.

I recently decided I'm not posting on Tuesdays anymore, so I removed that one, but now Tailwind

is suggesting to me other optimal times, so if I wanted to go back and add more time slots

all I need to do is click on one of these and that adds the time slot, but you can adjust

your Smart Schedule as you see fit.

You can also click this "Add time slot" button and it will suggest times for you to add to

your time slot.

One of the important things is to make sure that you have your time zone set correctly

for where you're posting from; otherwise things are a little bit wonky.

So, the Smart Schedule helps you to find the optimal times to post for you so that you

can reach more of your audience.

These are not times that are general.

Not everyone has 6:56 PM.

This is specific to me and what my audience data is saying is best for my specific account.

This is my very favorite feature, but now I'm going to show you my other favorite feature.

I'm going to go here to drafts, and basically it's more than one feature rolled together,

but what I love about Tailwind is just how I can manage my content, so I can upload tons

of image.

Okay, so I've uploaded another photo, and if I have some kind of photo shoot or whatever

I can just go through and I can upload as many photos as I want and they just sit in

here until I actually schedule them, so I have this picture right here has actually

been sitting in here for months; I haven't used it yet because I just haven't found the

right application, but then once I have my captions I can go through and I can start

entering my captions.

In addition to that, you also have the ability to save hashtag lists and discover new hashtags,

so Tailwind is actually I guess for lack of a better descriptor, watching your caption

and they're going to suggest some hashtags to you that they think are good.

These are also I think left over because this is what I post about and these are the tags

that I use a lot, so they just prompt you with hashtags they think are relevant, so

I can click on them to add to the post and as I click on them and add they're going to

continue to suggest hashtags to me that they think are great.

You can see that the hashtags are rated from good, best, and competitive, and then you

have your niche hashtags, which are just very specific, and that's neither good nor bad;

it's just that they're very specific to certain industries or niches or whatever, so I can

discover new hashtags or I can just type on my own.

I'm going to say "small business."

Okay?

And then let's say I get a grouping that I really like; I can actually click here and

click this to create a new hashtag list.

You can see I have several lists that I've already created, so if I knew ahead of time

that I didn't want to do all this and type in the new suggestions I could just click

on here, I could go to my list, and boom; it puts the hashtags that I've chosen for

me.

It just makes it really quick and convenient, and now you don't have to depend on lists

of hashtags saved on your phone or in your email or however you might be doing things

now.

When I'm ready to queue them up all I do is hit "add to queue," and it goes in the next

available time slot.

You can also set a specific date and time if you don't want to stick in your time slot

that you've predetermined, and so now these are scheduled to go out; then another thing

I love is that you've got this nine-grid preview so you can see how they will look once they've

been added to your queue, and if you don't like it you can actually go back here and

you can actually move them around, so I want to post this one first and I can switch these

all up.

I can move this one down to here and I can do whatever I want to switch them around so

that they work in a way that I think looks nice.

Another thing to know about Tailwind is it's also a Pinterest scheduler, and I'm not going

into that with this demo because I'm just talking about how it helps with Instagram,

but just know that if you're also on Pinterest you can also use Tailwind for that, and as

I mentioned before I was able to increase my organic reach on Instagram just by switching

to Tailwind, so before I had analyzed my own data through my Instagram Insights, and I

put together a posting schedule that I thought was effective and I was using Hootsuite to

schedule in advance, but since I was already using Tailwind for Pinterest I decided to

give it a try for Instagram.

Then when I signed up I thought, "Well, instead of using what I think is best why don't I

just try the Smart Schedule?

Hopefully they know what they're talking about," and I was really blown away by the results,

and today sometimes I might not get my posts queued up in time and I'll need to manually

schedule one for a specific time because I still want to get something out on Monday

and maybe 6:56 has passed, and whenever I schedule it manually they never perform as

well.

They never reach as many people, so I'm a huge believer in the Smart Schedule.So, with
