#AskIvo: How Does 'The Empty Throne' Affect US Alliances? - Duration: 2:05.
This is Ask Ivo, a series where you get to ask me questions
on global issues of concern to you.
Today, Robert asks: "Will the current administration's foreign
policy have long-term effects on US alliances and influence?"
That's a great question Robert.
In fact, one that Jim Lindsay and I both
asked and answered in our new book,
"The Empty Throne: America's Abdication of Global Leadership."
This administration's foreign policy, and this president's foreign policy,
is focused on winning, rather than leading, and it is trying
to win, not only against our adversaries, but against our allies.
Countries in Europe, in Asia, and in North America.
We're trying to get the best possible trade deal,
not for both of us, but just for ourselves.
We want allies to spend more on defense so we can spend less.
Those are major shifts in American foreign policy
compared to what we have been doing for the
past 70 years, and they are having consequences.
Allies have choices–They can either be with us,
or they can try to do stuff without us.
On trade, they're negotiating agreements among
themselves and leaving the United States outside.
In Europe, more countries are not only
spending more on defense, but are trying to do it without
having to rely on the United States.
That isn't good for the United States, and it isn't good for our allies.
But not all is lost. Allies can and will do more,
and the next President of the United States
can come back and lead the United States once again
and be part of a global order that has allies and where America has influence.
That's the essence of our book, and I hope you have a chance to read it.
Thanks for tuning in! Want to ask me a question?
Shoot me a tweet, with the #AskIvo.

U.S. firm that North Korea's denuclearization must come before any concessions - Duration: 2:09.
The United States responded positively to this week's summit.
There are hopes that the Pyeongyang agreement would would lead to talks resuming between
Pyeongyang and Washington.
But for the U.S., North Korea still has to denuclearize to get what it wants.
Lee Ji-won has the latest.
The United States is standing firm that no concessions can be made to North Korea in
the absence of denuclearization.
This is according to State Department Spokesperson Heather Nauert on Thursday,... who was speaking
at a press briefing as South Korean President Moon Jae-in concluded his third inter-Korean
summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
The joint declaration the two Korean leaders signed says the North will take additional
measures, such as the permanent dismantlement of its nuclear facilities at Yeongbyeon, SHOULD
the U.S. take corresponding measures in accordance with the spirit of the June 12th Trump-Kim
agreement.
And to this, Nauert reiterated that the regime's denuclearization has to come first.
Asked if Secretary of State Mike Pompeo wasn't jumping to conclusions by saying there would
be inspectors from Washington and the IAEA, Nauert said it's a shared understanding that
they have to be part of it.
"President Moon and also Chairman Kim did talk about inspectors.
Of course having the IAEA inspectors and United States inspectors be a part of anything is
really just a shared understanding.
Any time you have a nuclear situation like this where there is a dismantlement, the expectation
is the IAEA inspectors would be a part of that.
So that would just be normal course of doing business."
Asked if the U.S. thinks the denuclearization part of the summit agreement was an achievement,
Nauert said any sitdown the U.S. or South Korea has with the North is a step in the
right direction to having regular dialogue.
She added the U.S. sees the Pyeongyang summit as progress and good news,... stressing that
Washington is prepared to engage immediately in negotiations if and when the North is ready.

US Rep Scott Perry, 5 Questions Uncut | PennLive 5 Ep 3 - Duration: 3:31.
Good afternoon everybody I'm pen live opinion of your John mysic welcome to
the pen live five with us rep Scott Perry five questions thirty seconds each
completely unvarnished here we go first question on the clock should jeff
Sessions be fired no jeff says it should not be buy why
he's doing what he thinks is right I disagree with some of the things some of
the things I think he is left there but I think generally speaking he's doing
the work that we need him to do and he needs to remain independent even though
we're disappointed in some things now I think the Department of Justice needs
some cleaning out and it needs to be focused on crimes that I think many
Americans feel have been committed and left untouched that's round one all
right all right should President Trump withdraw at Kavanagh's nomination to the
US Supreme Court absolutely not quite that the accusation
hasn't been made that is serious and needs to be investigated and fully
vetted however we don't and in this country were presumed innocent right so
he mr. Cavanaugh has has his rights as well so we want to respect the rights of
both sides and and just making an accusation and then saying that somebody
has to be withdrawn is not due process and does not honor the rights of the
whole individual all right how many seats will Republicans lose in November
I don't know that they'll lose any time why not because I think most people like
the same things think about the same things are concerned about the same
things they're concerned about their family there's concerned about safety
they're concerned about their taxes and how much money they're going to make
they're concerned about their opportunity am I able to do better for
my family Republicans have delivered on that all
those issues consistently throughout this term and so there's really no
reason to change this one all right you've said you're voting for Jim Jordan
for speaker of eight if House Republicans maintain a majority
obviously not without his challenges mr. Jordan yy4 speaker for speaker because I
want to see it members come to participate not take
orders from leadership we take our orders from our constituency and
overtime and especially during this session what we have is more closed
rules I know that's inside baseball what that means is is that fewer
opportunities for members to offer amendments to participate to be the
voice of their of their constituents we want that to change it's not going to
change if we keep the status quo you beat the clock okay all right I'm
getting better yes final one the one thing nobody knows
about the one thing nobody knows about me the outhouse that we used when I was
growing up was painted pink as a Halloween prank by some neighbors and
friends and I I suspect most people never used an out this isn't a porta
potti this is an outhouse with holes in the ground I suspect most people don't
know that that's how I kind of grew up in my early days all right and that's
the pin live five with Congressman Scott Perry thanks a lot we'll see you next
time
you

Count on Us: AmeriCorps NCCC in Puerto Rico - Duration: 1:48.
In Puerto Rico especially since I've been here there's still a lot of residents that
have stressed to us the ones that we've helped and the ones we haven't helped that there's
still a lot that needs to be done here regarding food or water or even electricity and seeing
how power has been restored to some of the island I know there were people out here working
constantly but there's still a lot that needs to be done and I'm glad that I can be a part
of it even if it's last minute we're there we're ready to help and we're ready to serve
it's very humbling to work in disaster and see how these people have lost everything
and they're still like so giving and their so thankful and they show you every day
we are currently taking down a ceiling that has been ripped apart by hurricane Maria it's
kinda growing mold so we're just taking it out of the house it's very interesting to
see that after the initial relief you know, getting out the food the resources for people
to maintain themselves there's still a lot to be done
it's very hard for people on the island to get resources out here it's very important
for volunteers to be able to come out here and do the work that it would take the home
owner years to do we're able to do it in a couple of days and we're able to get the resources
that is needed

USD broadly slides despite strong US data (20.09.2018) - Duration: 1:30.
On Thursday, the US dollar slumped against most rival currencies.
The euro/dollar pair is heading for a three-month low, closing the European trade at near 1.1760.
Analysts expect the euro/dollar pair to finish this week in the green.
The US dollar index sank below 94.00 in the North American pre-market.
Interestingly, the greenback is losing steam amid expectations for a rate hike by the Federal
Reserve next week.
Besides, traders took no notice of the US statistics.
However, a report from the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia revealed robust manufacturing
activity.
The index for current manufacturing activity surged in September, beating expectations,
after a plunge in August.
Analysts say that macroeconomic data will arouse stronger response next week as the
US central bank is holding a policy meeting.
The regulator is widely expected to raise benchmark borrowing costs.
Moreover, market participants are anticipating that other global central banks, including
the ECB, the Bank of England, and even the Bank of Japan, will eventually announce their
plans to start gradual monetary tightening.

How to make the bass and lead sounds for Tale Of Us - 'Nova' - Duration: 14:08.
Hi, this is Lucas Palmeira from Imaginando and I'm here to give you another tutorial on DRC.
Today I'm gonna show you how to make the bass sound and background sounds for the song 'Nova' by Tale Of Us.
So let's get right into it.
Here I have a DRC which I have to reload the default patch because like last week I have some automations here on the track.
You can check that out afterwards when you download the session yourself
so what I'm gonna do first is reload the default patch
Okay here I have it
I'm gonna start by
Okay, the master should be okay, but I'm gonna raise the PRE-GAIN to (0.9)
Okay, the first oscillator [OSC1] to (0.6)
Now I go to the filter and the envelope generator 2 [EG 2] amount controlling the cutoff I'm gonna drop to (0.258)
Okay, and now the CUTOFF to (0.14)
The RESONANCE to (0.112)
now on the first envelope generator [EG 1] we raise the ATTACK just a tiny bit to (0.04)
The DECAY to (0.126)
To SUSTAIN to (0.1)
Okay, and finally the RELEASE to (0.107) like this
Now the second envelope generator [EG 2] we raise the ATTACK to (0.04)
Okay
DECAY to (0.165)
SUSTAIN (0.2) and finally the RELEASE to (0.159)
0.159, okay
now we go to the reverb and
We raise the DECAY to (0.6)
then we raise the AMOUNT to (0.172)
Finally we go to the chorus we turn the chorus on and we dropped the rate to (0.094)
And the DECAY to (0.3)
Okay like this
So the first sound is done
Let's go to the second one
Do the same the same thing open it and reload the default patch
Okay
this reverb that you're hearing is from
the
the 'sends' - I will show and explain what's happening with the sends in a second...
What I'm going to do now is drop it to zero and let's go on...
First thing I'm gonna do is
Raise the MASTER to maximum and the PRE-GAIN to (0.79)
Okay, oscillator one to the maximum
Now the envelope generator 2 to (0.167)
And we drop the CUTOFF to (0.197)
RESONANCE at zero
We go to the modulation page that modulates the cutoff frequency and we're gonna raise the noise to (0.5)
Okay, so you can hear this noise here
and the keyboard [KBD] to (0.556) So the higher the note the higher cutoff
like this
Okay, and now we go to the first envelope generator
And
We drop the DECAY to (0.347)
Okay SUSTAIN to zero and the release to (0.178)
Okay
Now we go to the second envelope generator and we raise the DECAY to (0.751)
Now the SUSTAIN to (0.347)
And the RELEASE to (0.120)
Finally we go to the reverb and we put it the same way as last sound
DECAY (0.6) here
And the AMOUNT at (0.3)
Okay
Should be okay now
Delay - we turn the SYNC on and put the time at (1/4)
Now the FEEDBACK is (0.276)
The CUTOFF at (0.783) and
Finally the AMOUNT at (0.1)
Okay tricky
Okay
Done. So and now let's go
to the
Final sound and basically this final sound is the same sound as the DRC before
The only thing that you have to change and I'm gonna tell you this is
That the filter on this DRC
You have the envelope generator at maximum
the LFO at maximum you just copy the other one and put
the envelope generator 2 [EG 2] of the filter maximum the LFO 2 at maximum and
you go to the LFO 2 and change the rate to SYNC to 1/2
Finally on the LFO 1 modulation you give it (0.335)
(0.413) on LFO 2 and
On the noise you drop it to (0.180) and this should be it
let's now try and listen to the melody that I've recorded before
and see if everything works out all right
Okay, sorry about that, let's try again
I'm not choosing everything. Sorry about this. Bear with me just a little longer
No, I'm not being able to record this
Just a second
Okay, I think now we've got it so let's now listen to the melody that I've recorded
Before and I hope you guys enjoy this
And
This is it. I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial remember
The reason I do this tutorials is so that you guys at home can
get close to these sounds and learn through the process how to
Manage to do sounds like the ones we're trying to recreate
the idea is never to do exactly the same since
There are different synths, the filters are not always the same the envelope generators are not the same,
So sometimes getting really really close to the sounds
it's much harder than some other times, but I hope the
Educational side of things will compensate for all that.
my biggest goal is that you can use this kind of examples so that you have basis of synth synthesis
Afterwards sculpture your your own sounds so I hope you enjoyed it
I will see you again next week. So goodbye everyone

U.S. making progress it needs with North Korea: Pompeo - Duration: 2:18.
U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo says the United States is making the progress it needs
with regards to North Korea's denuclearization.
His remarks come as critics say negotiations are failing.
Lee Seung-jae tells us more.
In an interview with Fox News,...
U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said the United States has "made steady albeit slow
progress" in regards to North Korea's denuclearization.
Pompeo added that despite the slow progress,... the U.S. has "always known" it was going to
take some time.
The top U.S. diplomat reaffirmed continued talks between Pyeongyang and Washington,...
saying the personal relationship between North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and President Trump
is "good".
He went on to say that the two talk "with some frequency," despite the lack of reports.
Pompeo also pointed to the outcome of this week's third meeting between the leaders of
South and North Korea,... saying it was a "successful engagement" that led to the North's
promise to dismantle a missile testing site in front of international inspectors.
Earlier,... Pompeo issued a statement that welcomed the commitments made by Kim,... adding
the U.S. is willing to "immediately" engage in talks with North Korea through a proposed
meeting in Vienna,... as well as a proposed meeting between himself and North Korean Foreign
Minister Ri Yong-ho on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly next week.
Meanwhile, citing Pompeo's remarks to start negotiations again,... UN Secretary General
Antonio Guterres expressed hope on Thursday that a complete, verifiable denuclearization
of North Korea will be the end result.
"Now I've taken note of the fact that Secretary of State Pompeo is ready to start again, negotiations,
and I'm hopeful,..(cut)...
I hope that it will produce the result we all want, which I repeat, is full and verifiable
denuclearization of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and the Korean peninsula
in the context of regional security."
This comes as the UN Secretary General warned that negotiations between the two Koreas won't
be successful unless there's simultaneous success in U.S.-North Korean negotiations
to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula.
Lee Seung-jae, Arirang News.

U.S. firm that North Korea's denuclearization must come before any concessions - Duration: 2:16.
The inter-Korean summit was looked to help break the current stalemate between Pyeongyang
and Washington in their denuclearization talks.
The U.S. still remains unchanged in its stance, that denuclearization must come first,...
but it did speak positively about the summit.
Lee Ji-won tells us more.
The United States is standing firm that no concessions can be made to North Korea in
the absence of denuclearization.
This is according to State Department Spokesperson Heather Nauert on Thursday,... who was speaking
at a press briefing as South Korean President Moon Jae-in concluded his third inter-Korean

measures, such as the permanent dismantlement of its nuclear facilities at Yeongbyeon, should
the U.S. take corresponding measures in accordance with the spirit of the June 12th Trump-Kim

Nauert was asked whether Secretary of State Mike Pompeo wasn't jumping to conclusions
by saying there would be inspectors from Washington and the IAEA, but she said there's a shared
understanding that they have to be part of it.
"President Moon and also Chairman Kim did talk about inspectors.
Any time you have a nuclear situation like this where there is a dismantlement, the expectation
is the IAEA inspectors would be a part of that.
So that would just be normal course of doing business."
There are concerns that the deadlock could continue despite the latest inter-Korean summit,
but the U.S. remains optimistic.
In an interview with Fox News,...
Secretary Pompeo said they have "always known" that denuclearization was going to take some
time and that they have "made steady albeit slow progress."
Pompeo pointed to the outcomes of the latest inter-Korean summit,... calling it a "successful
engagement" that secured a promise from the North to dismantle a missile testing site
in front of international inspectors.
More progress could come next week during a flurry of diplomacy on the sidelines of
the UN General Assembly, including the Seoul-Washington summit, and possibly a meeting between Pompeo
and his North Korean counterpart.
