Youtube daily what Sep 21 2018

Water is the most important resource on the planet.

It's also the most plentiful.

But it's also not as useable as you may think.

As the world grows in population, countries develop out of poverty, and weather patterns

change all over the globe, water resource issues arise.

Without a proper plan for fixing these issues, we could be in for a very tough future.

Here are ten of the biggest water resource issues facing the world.

Number 10: The 1% Rule.

Despite the incredible amount of water available on our planet, only one percent of it is actually

drinkable.

Luckily, that amount has been good enough to sustain human life for millennia, but,

as our world changes, we may need much more than that.

Even worse, this small percentage isn't as clean as it used to be.

Most of the water on Earth, 97 percent or so, is salty ocean water, so we can't really

use it for anything.

Another 2 percent is frozen solid in the ice caps at the North and South Pole, so it's

unreachable.

That leaves only 1 percent that we can use for everything we need.

On the plus side, this small percentage of fresh water is fairly accessible.

A lot of it is in lakes and ponds around the world, as well as underground wells throughout

the planet.

We can easily get to it and move it from place to place to take care of everybody, but many

challenges are rising, including the growth of our world population.

Number 9: More People.

The world population is exploding.

In the early 19th century, the entire planet had one billion people.

Today, estimates clock in at around 7.5 billion people worldwide.

Mankind has never grown by these numbers in history.

With the growth of population comes a natural need for more water.

Every person needs to drink, bathe, wash clothes, and do many other things, all involving fresh

water.

The supply is being stretched incredibly thin, and will only be getting thinner.

At the rate things are moving, experts believe we will have 11.2 billion people on Earth

by the year 2100.

The problem goes beyond drinking and bathing, too.

Water is needed for farming, taking care of animals, and all kinds of infrastructure as

villages grow into towns and towns grow into cities.

As the population increases, the need for clean water will increase just as much.

Number 8: Development.

As with population growth, cities are growing all over the planet.

People have to live somewhere, right?

So, a lot of infrastructure has to be put in place, such as houses, streets, buildings,

stores, and many other conveniences of daily life.

Most of all, more water needs to flow to these areas so people can live.

With a growing population comes the need for more products and services, too.

People will need transportation, food, services and tons of other things, all of which require

water to produce.

Unfortunately, if we don't figure out how to handle this added burden, we could be in

for a tough road ahead.

Many nations around the country are growing faster than ever before and seeing huge numbers

of new residents.

It can be hard to keep up with infrastructure, especially in rural nations where water is

already rare enough.

Sometimes the problem can be eased by rain, but quite often these areas are in drought,

which leads us to...

Number 7: Worldwide Droughts.

Worldwide droughts have been on the rise in recent years.

If that's not bad enough, some of these droughts have lasted longer and been more severe than

ever before.

Scientists studying climate change are worried that these problems will only get worse.

Before we get into the issues of drought, though, take a moment to like this video and

to subscribe to Zero2Hero!

It only takes a second of your time, but, it means a lot to us here!

When an area experiences a drought, it can be weeks, or even months before a single drop

of rain hits the ground.

The residents have to find water somewhere else and sometimes the government has to ship

it in.

All of this costs money, and for poorer nations this can be too heavy a burden.

Weather patterns have been drastically changing in recent decades, leading to stronger hurricanes,

tornadoes, droughts and other major weather events.

Many believe that global warming is causing many of these issues and that we may not even

be able to undo the damage.

Number 6: Many Uses.

As we know, water is an important element of nearly everything on Earth.

From start to finish, water is involved through many processes of creating all kinds of goods.

Without sufficient water, a lot of the goods we enjoy today will have to limit their supply

or stop production for good.

For example, a cup of coffee may seem small, but when considering the water necessary to

sustain the coffee bean plants, process the beans, create their packaging and everything

else involved from farm to cup, a single cup of coffee can use over 100 liters of water.

Clothing can cost hundreds of liters of water to create, and creating meat products can

take 1,000 liters or more.

Multiply this by so many meals per day for every person on the planet, plus all kinds

of products sitting on shelves at the store, and you get a ton of fresh water usage that

can't be sustained in the long run.

Number 5 : Leakage Since we already have a limited amount of

water, you would think that every ounce would be carefully protect.

Unfortunately, this isn't the case.

Quite a bit of water is lost to basic leakage whenever it is moved from one place to another.

When water travels from the treatment plant to your home tap, it travels through miles

of pipes.

A lot of these pipes around the world were installed many years ago and have broken down

and are prone to leaks.

A few drops here and there can quickly add up to millions of gallons worldwide being

lost.

In addition to all of this, there's the many ways we use water and throw it down the drain.

While we need water in order to flush a toilet, that uses a few gallons every flush.

Many people wash their driveways off with a hose, or wash their car more often than

needed, and water their lawns beyond what the grass can absorb.

All of this results in a continual loss of water.

Number 4 - Rising Prices One way of combating a lack of supply and

a higher demand is through raising the price.

And, unfortunately, this may need to be the case for water in the coming decades around

the world.

However, this idea has its own problems.

On the one hand, water is a basic need for every living thing.

Even the United Nations stated that water is a basic human right.

But on the other hand, it costs a lot of money to move water from its source to the people

and, as we know, production of every kind of product requires a ton of clean water.

Someone has to pay for it all.

Some people advocate for raising the price of water for those who can afford it.

The extra funds created by a rise in cost could also be used for desalination, or cleaning

up the salt water from the ocean.

This would actually create more fresh water around the world, but it will all take quite

a bit of time and money.

Number 3: Industrialization.

Big companies and organizations can often be seen as the bad guy, and that's certainly

the case when it comes to water usage.

However, they still need to use quite a bit of water to create all the goods we enjoy

on a daily basis.

One of the biggest ways they use water is to handle waste.

Every kind of production creates some form of waste.

Most companies find that the most efficient way to rid themselves of waste it to basically

flush it down the river and into the ocean.

The only problem is that this waste doesn't just mix into the unusable ocean water, but

also affects the freshwater in nearby lakes and ponds.

As the population increases and more cities are built, more goods will need to be produced.

This means more factories; more water usage and of course more waste being flushed into

the fresh water sources.

At some point we'll have to decide between creating the goods we want and having clean

water.

Number 2: Businesses vs. The People.

Building on the industrialization issue, businesses and people will have to fight with each other

for access to fresh water in the future.

Like we said before, every product takes a ton of water to create, so companies always

need a lot of fresh water in order to produce goods.

But we also know that people need water for their everyday lives and health, too.

There have already been legal battles around the world between people and companies that

move into their region.

Factories are built in towns, providing hundreds of good jobs, which is great...on the surface.

However, when the company needs millions of gallons of clean water in order to function,

suddenly it's not worth the jobs if the people need to live with limited water, or none at

all.

How do we keep producing goods and keep up the pace of modern life but also not dry up

entire towns?

Until we find some viable ways to handle the issue, the fights will continue.

Number 1: Lack of Conservation.

All of the water use problems we have covered so far come down to one common factor: us.

Human beings need water in order to live and we also need water to create the modern lives

we enjoy.

Worst of all, it's very easy to take it all for granted.

Conservation isn't seen as necessary until a problem arises.

Basically, if water is still flowing from the tap, it doesn't seem like there is a real

problem, even if the worldwide issue is bad.

Now that people are becoming more aware of water scarcity, though, conservation efforts

are on the rise.

One major example of conservation success was in Cape Town, South Africa.

The water supply there has been drained so much that the city planned to shut off all

water, requiring water to be brought in from other sources and being rationed to the people.

However, between a few timely rainstorms, and the people voluntarily conserving where

they could, the plans to shut off the water have been delayed for a few years, and could

possibly be cancelled altogether.

If efforts like Cape Town were performed worldwide, the water crisis could be solved!

Or...at least delayed.

Liverpool news: Did you see what Sadio Mane did after Roberto Firmino's goal against PSG? - Duration: 2:22.

Firmino rescued three points for Liverpool during their Champions League opener against PSG after the Reds had squandered their two goal advantage

Daniel Sturridge – who replaced Firmino in the starting line-up after the Brazilian suffered a nasty eye injury against Tottenham last weekend – opened the scoring on the half-hour mark at Anfield

James Milner doubled Liverpool's advantage six minutes later, however, Thomas Meunier pulled one back for PSG before half-time

Kylian Mbappe turned the game on it's head seven minutes from time when he put the visitors back on level terms

And it was substitute Firmino who saved Liverpool's blushes with his last-gasp winner deep in injury time

During his goal celebration, Fimino mocked the eye injury which prevented him from starting the game

As the Brazilian ran towards the crown to celebrate, he covered his injured eye to make light of the gruesome problem

And hilariously, Mane did exactly the same thing when he ran over to congratulate his team-mate

But it's not the first time Mane has been seen 'copying' celebrations. The Senegal ace was seen imitating a couple of Firmino's celebrations last season including a kung-fu kick and the 'matador

' But Mane wanted to set the record straight and has since insisted that it's not him who copies his team-mates celebrations

"The fans deserve to know the truth," Mane said.  "Firmino copies me, not me copying him! "The kick was me

We try it in training. "He scored and I was behind him, and he did it. "The dance with Philippe and Bobby was mine too!"

OpenStreetMap One Minute Tutorials - Episode 1 - What is Mapping - Duration: 0:58.

In OpenStreetMap, when we talk about mapping, we mean tracing geographical features such

as buildings, roads, lakes, forests, train lines, power lines, rivers etc. from aerial

photographs such as satellite imagery or images taken from drones.

These aerial photographs are raster images or pixel based images.

They are georeferenced meaning the internal coordinates or the latitudes and longitudes

of the images are related to the geographical or physical coordinates.

We take these raster images, determine what features we see in it, trace the features

which becomes vector data, upload them and thus we create the map.

Mapping is also known as Digitizing or Vectorization.

OpenStreetMap is mapped by mappers from all around the world, voluntarily, for humanitarian

responses or different projects.

To start mapping, head over to www.openstreetmap.org and register yourself, which is completely

free.

What is the Difference Between Powered/Active and Passive Speakers? - Duration: 1:48.

So there are passive speakers and there are powered speakers.

What's the difference?

Passive speakers need their input signal to come from an amplifier, which may be part

of a receiver, or a separate unit.

The reason for this is because they don't have one built in.

Powered speakers, aka active speakers, contain their own amplifier, which means they're a

bit more versatile.

For example, you could go straight from a turntable with a preamp, like our RT80 and

RT81, directly into the speakers.

This would require no receiver, and leave you with a nice clean, aesthetically pleasing

setup.

Another common use of active speakers is using them as computer speakers, or even simply

as Bluetooth speakers.

The downside to active speakers is - because they are one unit - you cannot upgrade the

amplifier and speaker separately However, amplifiers in powered speakers are generally

very well matched to the drivers.

Amplifier manufacturers tend to overbuild their amps to ensure they can accommodate

a wider range of speakers.

One plus to passive speakers is that it's easier to upgrade your home theater.

Many consumers assemble their systems piecemeal, and being able to upgrade the speakers and

amplifier separately makes it a little easier to match components.

One downside to passive speakers is that it can be challenging to keep a clean setup,

because you have to cables from the source, to the amplifier or receiver, to the speakers.

På svenska: what I use to learn Swedish #RecordYourselfChallenge - Duration: 7:01.

Hello!

Today I'm doing a video in Swedish

It's my first video in Swedish

and I'm super nervous

so please be kind

I'm doing a video to join the challenge

#RecordYourselfChallenge

and I'm going to talk about the learning resources

I use to learn Swedish.

We start with

these

they're called Rivstart

These are textbooks I use

almost every day

I know there are many people

who think textbooks are boring

but I actually love

to learn with a textbook

I couldn't

learn a language without

a good textbook

These

I use almost every day

And because I am

a bit of a grammar nerd

I also bought this one, Form i fokus

This one

only has grammar exercises

so after I studied grammar on Rivstart

I do a bit of extra exercise

with Form i fokus

I don't know if it's just me

but I think grammar exercises

are super cosy

when I just want to relax

when I'm a bit stressed

sometimes I do grammar exercises

with this one.

When I want to listen

to Swedish

then I listen to

a podcast called SFIpodd

every episode has

a lesson with a dialogue and explanations

from SFI teachers.

and it has three different levels

so it works well for all students

I also listen to another

podcast called NOK (*actually Natur & Kultur)

that is on Soundcloud

On this podcast

you can listen to interviews

with people who learned Swedish

so it's also good for inspiration and motivation

I also use every day

an app called SVT Språkplay

on it you can watch SVT,

so TV shows, with subtitles

and translation for

difficult words

so you can watch TV and understand

what you watch

When I want to write in Swedish

sometimes I do that on Instagram

so I write a sentence or two on Instagram

and I have also a small

language journal

On this notebook

I write about language learning

so if I have any problem with language learning

or if there is anything I am satisfied with

then I write it on here in Swedish

I also love reading

so I do some extensive reading

with this one

Roald Dahl's Matilda

This book is... you know it

it's very sweet

so I love reading it

When I want to do intensive reading

then I use mostly authentic materials

*correcting myself*

so this is what I'm reading now

Lund's history

It's the history of Lund

the city where I live now

in the south of Sweden

This one was also quite interesting

it's the broschure of Dalby Söderskog national park

so with this one

I learned some words about nature

and with this one some words about history

sometimes I also read the newspaper

so if there are any news I want to read

I try to read it on the newspaper

An activity I really love

is translating songs

For example

This song

is called Goliat, from Laleh

I wrote the lyrics here

there were some words I did't understand

so I wrote the English translation above

and then I wrote the translation here in English

When I understand the lyrics

it becomes easier

to learn words and grammar

when I listen to this

because I remember what it means

I think it's a fun activity

OK...

Last thing: online lessons

I have actually been

a bit busy in August and September

so I couldn't take any lesson

but I hope I can start again soon

because it helps me a lot

I take lessons from a teacher called Anneli

from Swedish Made Easy

She helps me a lot with conversation

and I also became more self-confident

so I can totally recommend it.

OK, so that was all

I hope I did't make too many mistakes

If so you can comment

and let me know

You can also comment with questions

or you have other resources

I didn't talk about

that you would like to recommend

The links to the resources

are under the video

so check them out

That was all!

Thanks for watching, bye!

How to DOUBLE what a LEAD is Worth to Your Online Business - Duration: 6:46.

welcome to the video guys today I want

to talk about how to double what a lead

is worth to you and we're starting right

now

alright guys welcome to the video so

today we're gonna talk about how to

double what a lead is worth to you now

this is relevant for an online business

or just a business in general that

collects leads online with a landing

page super super simple I've been

talking about this a lot lately because

it's a huge business for me right now

and I've literally been kind of on

really kind of tweaking a few things and

really kind of seeing that it makes a

ridiculous difference just a simple

tweak today I'm gonna talk about one of

those simple tweaks that's gonna at

least double at least double your what a

lead is worth to you so we'll talk about

the Thank You page today now yesterday

we touched on the landing page the day

before that we talked we touched on how

to like really take your business to the

next level with an auto response

sequence that kind of measures certain

numbers and kind of you know metrics if

you guys are interested in any of those

videos I'll drop the landing page

playlist right now up on the right

well up in the right-hand corner you can

check that out kind of over you kind of

KISS summarizes this entire business

model and has a lot of different value

videos in there they kind of will

explain different angles of this entire

business now if you have any questions

whatsoever during this video or you know

just in general drop them in the comment

section down below I'd love to answer

them for you or see you in the right

direction to a video that I've probably

done in the past on that specific

question so like I said yesterday we

talked about the landing page how to

increase the just one thing which is the

opt-in rate how that's gonna actually

10x your ROI on your business and that's

so so true it's crazy but today we're

gonna talk about the Thank You page so

what is the Thank You page alright when

someone submits their email the very

first thing that they get is that first

auto response sequence that first email

that they get so for me specifically

it's the free drop shipping course for

you it might be anything else that's

related to what you're giving away free

so what you're enticing them here

you know submit to submit their email

that first email where you email them

what they what they what they gave their

email and exchange for that's the Thank

You page that's what we're focusing on

here today and just include just

tweaking one thing on your Thank You

page is really going to make a huge

difference for your business a couple

weeks later and really kind of double

your revenue if not triple it or 10x it

so keep it simple the auto response

sequence now this is the first email

that like I said you give them when they

see

so this is what I typically used to do

I'll drop an example of this up in the

screen super super simple

you're just emailing them you know an

email doesn't say thank you but I just

wrote this here obviously so you

understand it's a thank-you page

basically what all it says is you know a

little bit of copy you know from who you

are and you're giving them what they

came for so that's why I wrote value

right here so for me it's the free job

shipping course like I said I dropped

that on the screen for you to check out

on top of that if you guys actually want

you want to go through the funnel

yourself to kind of see what it looks

like or if you're just interested in my

free drop shipping courses I'll drop a

link up in the right-hand corner right

now you can go ahead and grab them also

drop that in the description below and

you can go ahead and grab them when I'm

set free so this is what it used to look

like like I said you saw that example on

the screen just a little bit of coffee

and the value but I've noticed recently

after kind of making a couple tweaks

that I can really get people to be more

susceptible to my future email pitches

just by putting one simple tweak on this

landing page on the Thank You page so

that one simple tweak is we're still

giving a little bit of coffee to explain

what we're what they're getting you know

drop I believe I have mine says drop

shipping has literally changed my life

it gives me the ability to work from

anywhere in the world which is super

true you know just kind of that was

literally one of the first businesses I

ever got into online and it really kind

of taught me a different way to approach

you know just entrepreneurship and

marketing and that I could work from

anywhere in the world and kind of set up

past the streams of income very very

valuable and then obviously I give them

the two courses that I offer for free

but now I put a video in there a welcome

video a thank-you video and the reason I

do that and I'll drop that if you guys

want to check that out like I said go go

claim those courses basically all that

does it's a super quick super simple

video so when they hit this this landing

page now they don't just get thank you

and the value they get a quick video

short for me with the value and the free

courses and that video simply says hey

got it says something simple like hey

guys it's Brian and I just wanted to

welcome you and kind of you know I'm

excited to for you on this journey

something like that take some action go

ahead and grab the courses oh hey by the

way on top of that I'm gonna be sending

you some emails you know in the coming

days and weeks that are really gonna

kind of help you along your journey I

wanted to kind of you know space them

out so that you it's something like this

guy

I wanted to kind of space them out so

that you can kind of take in the

information at your own you know Agora

and leisure or you know at your own time

and really kind of you know I feel like

these tips that I'm gonna give you in

the coming days are really gonna help

you with your drop shipping store or

your online business or whatever you're

giving them for free and the reason that

I do that is I'm basically telling them

subtly obviously I did a terrible job of

kind of summarizing that up in that past

in that little you know spin off for

short that I just gave you but what I'm

basically saying in that in that

thank-you video right here is oh by the

way I'm gonna send you more emails in

the future that have value so what

that's doing is it's kind of you know

prompting them to be more susceptible to

opening my emails in the future because

they're not surprised they're not just

thinking oh they're gonna get this

instead they're thinking oh this guy's

pretty cool you know he's giving me free

free option courses he's give me some

value but he's also gonna give me future

value so I'm basically warning them

ahead of time hey I'm gonna be emailing

you in a couple in the in the coming

days with some more great information

that you can use to apply to the free

option courses that you just got and

what that's gonna do is they're going to

be more susceptible to opening up my

future emails and then obviously they're

gonna be more susceptible to you know

liking that value and then they're more

susceptible to opening the emails in the

future when I pitch them products and

make you know affiliate commissions or

whatever that is so telling you if you

could do one thing that's going to

basically double what a lead is worth

for you it's if you send them through

any email sequence or planning on

planning on sending them any emails in

the future which if you're collecting

their email I don't see why you wouldn't

it's clear it's clear that that's our

plan a thank you video just kind of

basically subtly saying oh I'm going to

be sending you more valuable emails in

the future that give you tips and help

you kind of warns them that you're gonna

be emailing them but it'll make them

more susceptible to open your emails and

kind of be open and susceptible to your

pitch in the future and I'm telling you

if you do one thing on your thank-you

page that's gonna really kind of double

what a lead is worth to you it's that

thank-you video so hit that like one if

you guys appreciate the value in today's

video I genuinely appreciate it it also

lets me know that I'm on the right track

and you like videos like this so I can

make more of them on top of that if you

have any questions please let me know

I'd love to answer them for you and with

that being said I'll see you the next

one

What Are Chinese People Like? (Russian Listening Practice) - Duration: 9:09.

Hello friends! With you, Max and

I just ate, ate or had meal,

So, and now I have a break.

It's very cool, that in China,

in the afternoon,

almost on every job, there is

hour or two-hour break, and the whole China is sleeping after lunch, yes, you can see people

sleeping right in the store

or, here, here on the bench,

So, this is very cool, in fact, because

as a minimum, you have the opportunity to sw ... switch ...

this is my colleague, we work together, she also has a break.

So, today I would like, firstly, I'm working here behind the corner

behind this corner is my job, where I work, and now I'm going home it's

very close, it's right here, well, and I want to tell you a bit about the Chinese ...

someone in the comments asked me

, in general, what kind of people are the Chinese, and I decided to film this video

Firstly,

Chinese call all foreigners laowai or waiguoren

and it means a foreigner and

often, well, almost always when they see you on the streets ... so, a second ...

When you cross the road in China, you always have to look both to the right and to the left

because you'll never know

where

a car will go from. And this is very dumb, very dumb!

So

When the Chinese see you on the street, they

often smile to you

or

somehow pay attention to you. And what's the most funny.... especially, children, children or people somewhere,

in small towns, they often look at you very

amazedly, yes, uuuu ...

it's very ... very very funny! And, some people are annoyed by that, they say, why are you constantly

staring at me? yes, staring = looking at. Why are you staring?

but I'm comfortable with this

and

it's hard for me to judge what kind of people they are in China,

simply because I am a foreigner

so...

Recently, my colleague told me that

The Chinese differ in their attitude

to the Chinese and to foreigners

that's

it's probably true

probably this is true. I think that in every country

it works, yes, in every country it's true that foreigners are treated a little better ...

maybe in some cases ....

here, but the Chinese, yes ... firstly, the Chinese, quite... it seems to me, this is my opinion, this is my experience ...

The Chinese are quite good people ...

They always

help you. If you are lost, if you do not know the way,

let's say, to a restaurant, to a cafe or to a subway, you can ask people on the street and

they will always help you. That is, it's very cool! They, really, always-always help.

secondly, they very often smile ... Yes, I am from Russia and we, in Russia, smile less,

I think so...

They Chinese are more ...

they are less shy to express their emotions.

that is, they can speak loudly, they can shout loudly, they can laugh out loud and, in general, behave loudly and

this is normal.

here, by the way, this is the place where I live ...

this is my home

Here, this is my building, yes. I live in the same place where I lived last time, when I was in China.

It is very funny!

I have never seen the Chinese fighting! This is also a very interesting fact. That is, it seems to me,

there are a lot of people in China therefore the Chinese

They got used to live with each other.

got used to live near,

among a large number of people and

therefore, probably, they have less aggression,

sort of... (They have) little aggression.

what else can I say about the Chinese?

By the way, look, I already came! That's it! The whole road is five minutes, very cool! Here I live

on the sixth floor, yeah, the sixth floor. Well ... let's go to the sixth floor!

I got the roof!

Some time in the past, I was here shooting a video right on this roof ...

yes, here it is - Wuhan.

The Chinese have a little bit different...

... another distance between people.

this also embarrasses many people,

many foreigners. For example, when they approach you they can come pretty close

For example, in Russia this is not accepted, we always observe the distance, yeah, such a distance.

Here, in China people can come very close and

this also embarrasses many people, because it is unusual.

And the Chinese are crazy about

food. I do not know, someone says that this is because China was starving

for a long time, yes, that is, there was a famine in China.

someone says other things but ... for the Chinese skip

dinner is something, just,

no, no, not ... how can that be !? missing lunch !? Sometimes, when I said in the kindergarten that, no, today I will not eat lunch!

many people looked at me as ... as an asshole.

Yes, becauseб how is it possible ?! why?!

why do not you eat today ?! are you sick ?! what's wrong with you ?!

they eat very different food, eat quite a lot, yeah, well ... the food is pretty tasty, although

I do not think that

most of the food that can be found here in China is very healthy. Because often it is very spicy

or very fried.

I also like that in China people are very

very busy, that is, they work very hard, very much ...

well, they are always doing something, even, look, there's a woman standing here - she is sorting the onions, yes, by the way, it's very

common ... when in China, here, here in such

old baths or somewhere else, people have a garden on the roof of the building. Yes it

can be seen in a lot of places... everywhere!

In the mornings and evenings, in the parks, a huge number of people doing warm up,

doing exercises: Tai Chi,

Qigong ... and so on. And this, too, is a very cool moment, that ...

people really care, many of them, about their health ...

this is all friends! See you in the next video and ...

Tell me, how do people in your country treat foreigners? I'm very interested, okay?

See you in the next episode, and I am going home for a break ... bye-bye!

H.O.P.E. What You Eat Matters - BONUS MATERIAL: Dr. Vandana Shiva (E/DE) - Duration: 11:22.

Knowing what you're eating ...

is an act of changing the world.

We have a very beautiful ancient text ...

called the Taittiriya Upanishad.

And it says:

"Everything is food. Everything is something else's food."

And it says: "Food is in fact the divine."

Because the minute you put ...

food into you, that food is you.

And that food didn't begin as food.

That food began in the soil.

It's a gift of microorganisms.

It began with the sunshine. It's a gift of the sun.

All of that life has been embodied in the food that becomes us.

And when we grow food with care and we know what we are eating ...

and how it was grown, we nourish our bodies,

every cell of our bodies says: "Thank you for giving me life."

When we realize that we live in a web of life where all is one,

we treat every strand in that web with love and care.

And when we think we are separate from the Earth,

we think we are apart from the Earth,

we stupidly try and dominate over her,

we try and treat her as an object, and all her beings - which are sentient beings -

as if they were dead matter.

And we manipulate and torture ...

and think there is no consequence.

We allow violence to become the basis of our relationship with the Earth ...

because we think in that we are being superior, by being dominant.

But we were not meant to be conquerors and dominators.

We are meant to be part of the web of life.

It's very important in our everyday life to remember all is one.

The web of life is a food web,

and yet industrial agriculture and the meat industry ...

is breaking that food web at every level,

turning life into a commodity,

generating violence where we don't need violence,

and creating a food system that has become a curse ...

for the Earth.

It has become a curse for human beings,

and it is becoming a curse for future generations if we don't set it right.

Industrial methods use ten times more water ...

than ecological farming does ...

because ...

it destroys the soil organisms, it destroys the soil structure,

it prevents the soil from absorbing the water.

It compacts the soil with the heavy machinery, which then runs off...

All of this means you have to put more and more water into the agriculture.

And that is why you have 75% of the water of the planet ...

being used for agriculture.

And then you put these animals into these prisons,

which are also very water intensive in and of themselves.

But you take what in a decentralized integration of livestock ...

and crops and trees and people ...

would be a harmonious relationship,

and you turn this into creating waste.

In India we worship the cow,

and we even worship the cow dung ...

because it brings us soil fertility.

But when you have hundred, thousand, five thousand, eight thousand animals together,

their waste now becomes a toxic waste ...

because they are also being fed too many antibiotics, too much of the wrong kind of thing.

And then it's all in concentrated form and thrown into waterways,

taking away even more of the fresh water of this planet.

And everywhere where there are these animal farms ...

you have a stink because of the methane that it emits.

What we have done with animals ...

in terms of reducing them to pieces of cheap meat,

pieces of cheap milk,

has created a crazy situation.

Europe is spending half of its money on agriculture subsidies?

And instead of cutting them down, it's telling people:

Give up your jobs, give up your pensions, you have to have austerity?

And then,

after making very costly meat, and very costly milk,

that subsidy makes it so cheap that ...

poor farmers are dumping their milk in Brussels ...

to show we can't afford to produce milk anymore?

It's a system that is broken down at every level:

ecological, ethical,

social, economic.

And it's being kept afloat by only 3 things:

our money ...

- all the agricultural subsidies -

lies, which distort the real costs and the real price,

and ...

the stealing of our democracy,

so that ordinary human beings are not able to influence ...

what will be the food that will become them.

We are being robbed of our very being.

Because if we are what we eat, then we should know what we eat,

we should choose what we eat. And we have been denied that choice,

we are being denied that freedom, and we are being denied that knowledge.

Then we have been reduced to a ...

giant planetary concentration camp,

where some species are ground up ...

to be fed to themselves like in the mad cow case.

You might remember a few years ago they took dead cows ...

infested with BSE, ground them up, fed them to cows.

Cows don't eat meat.

Cows don't eat dead cows.

And there has to be a moment, we've got to shake up this system and say:

Enough is enough.

You've violated too many limits. No more.

And what we're asking for is not in your hands,

it's in ours because we can grow our food,

we can cultivate our communities,

we can rebuild local food economies,

we can save our seeds.

We don't need you ...

to poison us.

We can eat healthy and well by leaving other species free ...

and letting them have their welfare, while we increase ours.

If we look at the chances ...

according to human possibilities,

human intelligence, human longing for good, decent food,

I think the chances are extremely high ...

that we could all live on a good, healthy, organic plant-based diet.

We would use less resources to produce more food.

We would need more hands to work the soil ...

because an organic soil needs care.

A chemically farmed soil can be dealt with carelessness.

as if we were at war with the soil.

When we have to give care, we need hands, we need heart,

we need knowing minds.

And yet there is an industrial complex out there ...

which has learned how to make profits at such a huge scale ...

by torturing animals,

destroying the soil,

making biodiversity disappear.

If you look at what's happening to animals in factory farms on the one hand,

and you look at the fact that 75% of the bees of this planet have disappeared,

then all of life is under attack.

A system that has got used to telling us ...

that without the chemical fertilizers there would be no soil fertility ...

- even though the soil fertility is the soil microorganisms -

they will never let society know about the soil microorganisms.

If there is a handful of industries ...

growing GMO grains so that they can ...

fool us into thinking that this is a solution to hunger ...

when it is really part of the animal-torture complex,

they will not allow us to know how much biodiversity can produce.

They will keep us stupid, they will keep us ignorant, but most importantly ...

they will steal our democracies and our governments and they are doing that right now.

There is not one place on this planet ...

where what people want ...

is being allowed to become law and the policy.

Right now, as we talk ...

there are cases going on around the world where farmers are being forbidden ...

to grow their biodiversity just because it would make us free.

It would allow us to grow healthy organic food.

There are laws being pushed in place ...

to impose GMOs even though we know GMOs have not increased yields ...

and we know GMOs have risks.

In spite of that, governments are turning a blind eye to science ...

and telling their people:

"Democracy from now on will mean ...

a corporate dictatorship, which we will implement while we collect your votes,

we will collect their money.

And from that money we will then make sure ...

all of you eat meat, you don't know what you're eating,

you won't know if you're eating horsemeat or beef,

you won't know if you're eating GMO or non-GMO,

we will make it impossible for you to have safe, local organic food ...

because we will deliberately make it more costly by putting all your tax money ...

to subsidize the toxic food, the poison food,

the long-distance food, the food that should be beyond the reach of everyone."

That big lie is the lie of industrial agriculture.

For a while they will steal our governments.

In the long run, we will have to find ways ...

to be healthy, to be free,

to grow our food, to celebrate our lives.

That's what I try and do through Navdanya ...

by saving seeds, a very simple step.

But in this totalitarian world, a world in which food itself ...

has become the instrument of fascism,

an instrument of war, in this totalitarian world ...

that little act of saving seeds is a very big act.

Home Theater Setups: 2.0, 5.1, 7.2 and More, What Does it All Mean? - Duration: 2:00.

2.0...

5.1...

7.2... what do all these numbers mean?

When someone is referring to a number-point-another number home theater setup, the first number

refers to the number of full range channels, and the second refers to the number of low

frequency effects channels.

A 2.0 setup, for example, has two channels - left and right.

This is the traditional stereo system used for vinyl, CDs, music streaming.

2.1 will refer to a two channel setup with a subwoofer.

Front speakers can either be toed in, or straight orientation.

When speakers are toed in, they are angled in and directly facing the listener.

When they are "straight", they stay aligned with the wall.

There are different factors in deciding what orientation works best for you, including

room size and acoustics, so we encourage you to try both and see which sounds best to you.

A 3.1 setup will add a center channel to the mix, and is a good option for rooms where

surround speakers may be in the way.

The center speaker will make sure that all voices are coming from the screen, regardless

of where you are in the room.

5.0 and 5.1 setups add a back left and right channels, and is the most common home theater

setup.

7.0 will add side channels.

Any of these setups could have an additional subwoofer added.

A single subwoofer is usually adequate for an average-sized room in a house.

However, in some rooms, a single subwoofer is more prone to certain bass notes sounding

louder than others.

Using two or four subwoofers helps to cancel these effects and smooth out the bass response,

Jackson, MS Water Quality Assessment: What You Need To Know - Duration: 2:33.

Our Water Nerds always welcome your feedback, and this week we got a comment requesting

a video on Jackson, Mississippi drinking water, so here it is!

If you'd like us to do the same for a city you're curious about, make sure to comment

below.

Jackson, Mississippi is in exceedance of the federal Action Level for lead in drinking

water.

So what does this mean?

10% of taps tested for lead contamination had concentrations over 16 parts per billion.

The federal action level for lead is 15 parts per billion, but agencies such as the Center

for Disease Control and American Academy of Pediatrics recognize that there is no safe

level of lead for children.

Additionally, municipalities are only required to test a handful of homes every few years,

so these super high levels reported in Jackson's annual water quality report might not even

reflect the lead levels coming from your faucet.

Lead exposure can cause developmental issues, lowered IQ, and damages to the kidneys and

brain.

In August of 2018, the city of Jackson sent a notice to all residents acknowledging the

lead violation.

The notice gave standard recommendations for preventing lead exposure, such as allowing

tap water to run for 2 minutes before use, avoiding hot water for drinking or cooking,

eliminating tap water for baby formula, and getting your child's lead levels checked

by a doctor.

Next is disinfection byproducts or DBPs.

DBPs are formed when chlorine-based disinfectants that are routinely added to the water supply

to kill bacteria, and react with organic matter.

Jackson, Mississippi has some of the highest concentrations of disinfection byproducts

in the country.

According to the most recent report, concentrations of haloacetic acids averaged 46.3 parts per

billion but reached levels as high as 60 parts per billion.

Concentrations of trihalomethanes averaged 78.6 parts per billion but reached levels

as high as 85.2 parts per billion.

For a bit of perspective, EPA's maximum contaminant level for haloacetic acids is

60 parts per billion and 80 parts per billion for trihalomethanes.

Health and regulatory agencies have very little knowledge about the adverse health effects

of DBPs, and their toxicity.

EPA has stated that they have been linked to an increased risk of bladder cancer, as

well as kidney, liver, and central nervous system problems.

Our Water Nerds are on the lookout for other cities to cover.
