AN ORWELLIAN GEORGE SOROS CALLS FACEBOOK AND GOOGLE A MENACE FOR HACKING OUR MINDS

Apparently forgetting that he owns stock in the megalithic corporations Facebook and Google,

billionaire George Soros called the companies a menace to society because they are

monopolistic and deliberately engineer their products to be addictive.

Soros is, of course, correct, and his statements come on the heels of comments recently made

by ex-Facenook executive, Chamath Palihapitiya, who made headlines with his scathing criticism

of the platform.

I feel tremendous guilt I think in the back deep, deep recesses of our minds, we

kind of knew something bad could happen It literally is a point now where I think

we have created tools that are ripping apart the social fabric of how society works.

That is truly where we are.

It is a point in time where people need to hard break from some of these tools, and the

things that you rely on.

The short-term, dopamine-driven feedback loops weve created are destroying how society

works No civil discourse, no cooperation, misinformation, mistruth.

And its not an American problem this is a global problem.

It is eroding the core foundations of how people behave by and between each other.

~Chamath Palihapitiya

Soros appearance at Davos is already being broadly criticized, as he went out of his

way to dramatize his personal opinions of the Trump administration, and because his

statements about Google and Facebook have an almost Orwellian quality as he talks about

the need to free peoples minds from certain information.

As reported by The Independent:

Mr Soros also turned his attentions to Google and Facebook and argued they were in need

of regulation.

Branding the companies a menace, he warned against the rise of ever more powerful

monopolies.

The power to shape peoples attention is increasingly concentrated in the hands

of a few companies, he said.

It takes a real effort to assert and defend what John Stuart Mill called the freedom

of mind.

There is a possibility that once lost, people who grow up in the digital age will have difficulty

in regaining it.

He added: People without the freedom of mind can be easily manipulated.

This danger does not loom only in the future; it already played an important role in the

2016 US presidential elections.

Soros is well-known for his fiscal support of social revolutionary movements around the

world include his support for Antifa, which serves as fifth-column agitators to foment

political instability and press for communism in the United States.

Soros continues:

They deliberately engineer addiction to the services they provide.

This can be very harmful, particularly for adolescents.

There is a similarity between internet platforms and gambling companies.

Casinos have developed techniques to hook gamblers to the point where they gamble away

all their money, even money they dont have.

Something very harmful and maybe irreversible is happening to human attention in the digital

age.

Not just distraction or addiction: social media companies are inducing people to give

up their autonomy.

Soros also said that giants like Facebook and Google should be looked at as public utilities,

calling for government regulation of the platforms, a move which would completely solidify political

control over the a vast majority of content on the internet.

As it is, the censorship we see emerging today is motivated by corporate elites, however

regulating these companies would introduce federal control over content as well.

An Orwellian nightmare.

Google Home Automation with Tasker - UPDATED - Duration: 8:16.

what's going on guys. Juan here and on today's video I want to show you 2

methods that you can use via Google home to send commands to Tasker on an Android

device so let's get started. For the first method you can use AutoVoice

which is a very popular plug-in for Tasker if you never used it before you

can download it from the Google Play Store. You can find a link in the

description below after you download the plug-in you need to link AutoVoice

to Google home so open the Home App tap on the menu icon and then Explorer

search for AutoVoice and then tap on link and select your Google Account now

whenever you want to use AutoVoice via Google home just say OK, Google Plus ask

AutoVoice or let me talk to AutoVoice and then the command that you

would like to send to Tasker. Now the next step is to create a profile in Tasker

that will recognize the command sent from Google home and execute a specific

task so for this example let's create a simple profile to turn Wi-Fi on and

Bluetooth off when we are home and the opposite when we are not home. Open Tasker

on your device press the plus icon to create a new profile tap on event

plug-in AutoVoice and select recognized here we need to configure AutoVoice

with the phrase that we are going to use via Google home so tap on the hard way

and then tap on command filter here we are going to type the following this

part of the phrase is going to create a variable called status now any time we

say the phrase change phone status to either home or not home it will enter

the words home or not home in the status variable last we need to select

Use Regex and we can back out to create a task that will execute this actions

for this task we are going to use the if condition so tap the plus icon task

and select If here we are going to use the status variable we just created and

we are going to set the value to home

then we are going to add the action to turn Wi-Fi on and Bluetooth off and also

a flash notification to let us know when this condition gets trigger

then we are going to use Else If to trigger the opposite actions for when we

are not home

to make it easy we can copy the options above and change the values

okay so now let's go ahead and test this out. Hey Google, ask AutoVoice to change phone status

to not home all right getting AutoVoice command sent change phone status to not

home Hey Google, askAutoVoice to change phone status to home

sure here's AutoVoice command sent change phone status to home. Okay so

everything is working correctly now AutoVoice also has an advanced

feature and is to use natural language from Dialogflow formerly known as

API.AI with dialogflow you can create a better conversation system where you

can set up multiple phrases to trigger a specific action and you can also

customize the response that you get back from auto voice via Google home I'm not

going to be covering this feature in this video but I did make a tutorial

video a while back when it was still in beta. You can find a link in the

description below if you guys would like me to make an updated tutorial video

about natural language definite let me know in the comments below now the

second method that you can use to send commands to Tasker is by using IFTTT and

they join app I personally prefer using this way better because, 1, I don't have

to ask Google to call a service like AutoVoice, 2, I can also set up multiple

phrases to trigger a command and 3, I can customize the Google home response.

Let me show you how to set up the previous profile using this method the

first thing that you want to do is go to IFTTT and create a new applet click on

"This" and search for Google Assistant now select "Say a phrase with a text

ingredient" here you can enter multiple phrases that can trigger this command

the dollar symbol works like a variable which means that when you say change

phone status to home or not home it will replace the dollar symbol with the words

home or not home now for the response we are going to enter the following and we

are also going to use the dollar symbol click on create trigger and then select

"That" search and select Webhooks and then select "Make a web request" before we

continue we need to get the join API link so go to the following link you can

find this link in the description below here select your mobile device and then

click on join API to get the API URL click on show next to the API key now on

the text field we are going to type the following copy the URL and go back to

the IFTTT website paste the link in the URL field then we need to replace the

word value with the text field ingredient and we need to surround the

text with this now this is very important for some reason a space is

entered at the beginning of the text field ingredient so we'll need to remove it to

avoid issues with the Tasker profile. Ok so we are done here so click on create

action and then finish

next let's create a task of profile so open Tasker press the plus icon to

create a new profile tap on event plug-in and then join tap on Text and

then under the text field enter the same information that we typed for the join

API text field going to variable names and set up a new variable called stat

now let's back out and create a new task

for this example I'm just going to use a task that I use in the previous method

which is already set out with the same variable name we created for join if I

were doing this from scratch then I would open the if condition search for

the joint receive push status and then change the value to home or not home

everything else pretty much will stay the same okay so now let's go ahead and

test this out Hey Google, change phone status to not home

sure setting phone to not home mode

Hey Google, change phone status to home sure setting phone to home mode alright so

everything is working correctly I do have a full written tutorial about this

video on my website so be sure to check it out you can find a link in the

description below thank you guys for watching thumbs up if you like this

video don't forget to subscribe if you haven't done so already and I will see

you in the next video

Google's AI creates AI - Artificial Intelligence - Duration: 3:17.

What's up guys! Today we are going to talk about AI that build AI. My name is Selim Chehimi

And this is episode 8 of AI news.

If you think that AI can't replace computer programmers in the future, you are wrong! This is the dream of

researchers: building a machine that could build other machines.

Recently, Jeff Dean, one of Google's leading engineers, announced a new project called AutoML. ML stands for Machine Learning,

if you want to know more about the differences between AI and Machine Learning,

I made an entire video about this

And I'm going to put a link to the video so that you can see it.

AutoML is a machine learning algorithm that can create other machine learning algorithm.

As you can imagine, in the long term,

This technology may replace computer programmers. If you're already familiar with machine learning,

You know how much it requires mathematics.

Did you know that 10.000 people worldwide have the knowledge and experiences needed to build these complex

mathematical algorithms? There is definitely a lack of AI talents!

Between us, if you are planning to be a machine learning engineer,

I want to emphasize that the tech giants such as google, facebook, Microsoft are paying millions of dollars a year to keep their AI talent.

This lack of AI talent is the reason why there is lag in the adoption and effective use of AI in companies.

Consequently, AI has not impacted the economy for the moment. Now, Jeff Dean's vision makes more sense and is very easy to understand:

"the work we are working on will help companies build systems with artificial intelligence,

even if they lack extensive expertise".

Artificial Neural networks are

algorithms inspired by the human brain. They can learn tasks without instructions if you give them many examples. To

have a neural network to learn a specific task,

researchers are first running 10, or even 100 of experiments to find the right algorithm.

It's hard to find because it depends on so many factors. It can depend on the size, quality, and nature of data,

, but also on how much time they have.

They also have to do many adjustments over and over until they obtain an algorithm that works well. Sometimes,

it's hard to explain for them why they did a particular adjustment. In fact, they may not know themselves! Honestly,

it's nearly considered like magic. Nowadays, those algorithms are like a black box that we don't really understand.

AutoML has been created to automate this process.

I personally believe that if something can be automated, it should be automated. The results are very promising.

For example, Google announced that AutoML built an image recognition

algorithm that is more effective than those created by humans.

Thank you so much for watching guys, if you are not yet subscribed to my channel

please do so, the goal is to reach

20.000 subscribers by the end of the year. If you want to see more of what AI can do, I linked another video for

you that is interesting. There is a playlist where you can see all the videos

I've made about Artificial Intelligence.

If you want to learn more about AI, there is a link to my blog selimchehimi.com where I'm posting articles about it.

How to use Google Alerts to keep up to date and find content to curate - Duration: 3:13.

in this video I'm gonna show you my secret weapon which are Google Alerts.

Hi, my name is Alan Richardson welcome to this Talotics video. You can find more

videos or post like this at Talotics.com One of my secret weapons, and it's only

secret because no one else seems to use it, are Google Alerts.

Now, a Google Alert is essentially a Google search where Google do the search for me

on a daily basis and email me the results. so I do not have to every day

say 'go off to Google do a search for Instagram marketing'. Then... these might not

be the latest posts, and there are ads. So if I go off to tools and say "any time in the past 24

hours" then I've got... there we go so I've got the "new top stories about Instagram"

in there. What if Google sent me that every day! That's really what Google

Alerts are. Now this morning I received some Instagram Alerts, there's one for

Instagram marketing which already told me some of the stuff that I just saw in

that search. That Instagram now have their changing the API for their

scheduling. So tools can now schedule. Great. I didn't have to go off to Google

and do that search. Google did it automatically. The way you set this up:

you need to be logged in as your Google account, and go off to Google.co.uk/alert

or google.com/alert I already have 36 alerts set up here. So I'm gonna set

up a new alert. Essentially all I do is I type in the Google search that I

want to monitor. So if I say "video marketing" and I'm gonna put it in quotes

because I want those exact terms and we can see that Google is showing me what

kind of results I will get. And if I want to refine it, say I don't care about

snapchat so I'm going to say "-snapchat". There we go, that snapchat post went. And then

I've got a relatively targeted way of receiving new news that will be

automatically emailed to me. I do Create Alert. That's all it takes

now, on a daily basis... let's just double check that is a daily basis...

"most once a day" that's a daily basis. I will receive alerts for "video marketing".

And the way we manage it if we've got loads of these. I don't know if Google have

a a limit on these. I don't think they do Essentially I just go off to Google.co.uk/ Alerts. I

can change times. I could get all the alerts in a single email (I don't do that).

Show All Alerts - then I can edit them, delete them, manage them, whatever. This is a

incredibly useful tool. It's free from Google, as long as you've got a Google

account go off to Google.co.uk/alert and start using this as your secret

weapon in your marketing because we know that signing up to email lists is really

useful you get curated content from other people. This is essentially curated

content from Google that is relevant to the search terms. So if you can learn how

to use Google searches effectively to narrow in on your niche. You can receive

news on a daily basis, that you can curate or just use to trigger ideas for

your content marketing.

You Can't Just Google - Duration: 3:41.

I-

got my paper on social media back.

Yeah?

And?

Bombed it!

Badly.

I mean how is that possible?

I Googled "Social Media,"

I found all these awesome websites to quote from, I even cited them.

Well, you can't just use Google.

Did you try searching in the library's databases?

Wait, what databases?

Our library has databases? I didn't-

This is news to me. How did you find out about them?

They're on the library's website.

It's also on that guide they told us about in class.

There's a ton of good information and helpful things about searching the databases on there.

So what? So I shouldn't use Google at all?

Just the databases?

Googling is great for some things and everyone does it but it's not so great for college assignments.

Okay, but-

Why?

College is about preparing us to be respected professionals.

If you just Google, then you're missing out on over half of the information available.

Yeah, but-

It's Google!

Google only searches the tip of the iceberg

and sometimes it doesn't even do that very well.

Google is basically a popularity contest, not a judge of what's useful.

Anyway, our assignment sheet did say we needed to use scholarly sources and credible information

But what are scholarly sources?

How can I tell if something's credible,

Isn't everything on the internet credible?

No, not everything!

Scholarly sources are written by experts in their field and the articles have been peer reviewed.

Reviewers make recommendations regarding the information and sometimes even reject the articles if the research wasn't done correctly.

Also, credible information should be current,

you should be able to verify the author as an expert in their field,

and you should be able to locate where the author got their information.

Okay, well nobody told me about all that.

And what, you can't find those on Google?

Remember, Google is popularity contest.

Let's do a search on "Social Media."

[typing]

[Man]: Well, hold up. Wha- what's with this site?

Wikipedia has references,

and it's updated frequently.

Didn't you just say that credible information should be current and provide references?

You might read stuff on Wikipedia to give you an idea of the topic, but you shouldn't use it to support your arguments.

Anyone can put anything on the Internet.

[Woman]: You should always be able to search for the author of an article and see who they work for,

if they are affiliated with a school or organization, and their educational background.

It's a good way to determine if they're knowledgeable in their field.

Wikipedia doesn't list the authors of its articles, so there's no way of knowing who wrote it.

I mean-

I guess that makes sense.

So, do you ever use Google?

Sure, I use Google but I don't just Google it.

I might use it to see what people are saying about my topic

but I use Google along with my database searches to make sure I have the best sources for my assignment.

[Woman]: The databases are full of information you can't find on Google.

Plus it's way easier to find credible sources in a database.

Hmm,

Okay.

At least now I know what to do for the next assignment.

If you need help, just ask the librarians at Columbus State.

That's what they're there for.

Google Launches 150 Google Station WiFi Hotspots In Pune - Duration: 2:06.

Google Launches 150 Google Station WiFi Hotspots In Pune

After bringing millions of Indians online with its RailTel Wi-Fi project, Google, in partnership with Larsen & Toubro, on Wednesday announced that the company has installed 150 Google Station hotspots in Pune.

The development is part of the Pune Smart City Development Corporation Limiteds Smart City project and this is the first time that the company is deploying Google Station -- a localised captive portal that enables the connection to public Wi-Fi -- outside of the railways. .

We built Google Station to be both the highest-quality and easiest Wi-Fi service for users and the easiest for partners to deploy.

We think this makes Station a great connectivity partner for the growing number of Indian smart cities, Vinay Goel, Product Management Director of Google Station, said in a statement.

The company said the move would potentially bring three million Pune residents online within seconds at locations all around the city, including gardens, hospitals and police stations.

Nearly, 7.7 million users benefited at over 270 railway stations through Googles RailTel Wi-Fi project last year. Google launched its first free Wi-Fi services at Mumbai Central station in January 2016.

The company said it would continue to deploy high-speed Wi-Fi at more stations across the count.
