Hello #ANIFAM!
Introducing a deeper look into what the Dragon Ball Super episodes are secretly hiding.
Where in this video we will not be talking about devastating eliminations and perfected
power ups.
Super no.
Get it?
SUPER no?
Oh, bring your tissue box and let's finish discovering something completely different.
Like what emotions Dragon Ball Super Episode 128 is secretly hiding behind Vegeta's devastating
elimination and Goku's perfected power up.
Emotion is one of the strongest, greatest intriguing mental states.
An effective state of consciousness we were held in throughout the days of Dragon Ball
Z.
And here we are getting excited about a 30 second backstory on the mortal stronger than
a God of Destruction, Jiren.
Why hype up a panicking loss of loved ones when all you gotta do is show a few meaningless
shadows?
But, let's look deeper at Dragon Ball Super Episode 128's emotions.
Just what are the creators hiding behind Vegeta's elimination and Goku's perfected power up?
The episode picks up where Goku is unable to move and Vegeta is being forced to fight
Jiren alone.
Jiren hits both of the fighters where it really hurts when he says how ridiculous it was for
Android 17 to sacrifice himself for weaklings such as them.
Implying that no matter how much teamwork Universe 7 uses, no one will ever get by him.
Vegeta tries to go Super Saiyan.
But after failing, he gives a suspiciously familiar, cocky statement of "this form
is enough for the likes of you."
Maybe the creators are hiding something behind those words.
So if you look at all the times Vegeta has said something cocky and compare it to what
he's now saying to Jiren, things start to feel not so similar anymore.
You see, the Vegeta that Dragon Ball Z gave to us was very ungrateful and undeserving
of any cockiness.
Some Prince to give up everything special to him just to unsuccessfully get an edge
over Goku.
Which is exactly the same emotion we're getting from this unrealistic statement of
being able to win against Jiren while still in his base form.
So where is this huge difference for Vegeta?
Well, In this moment.
Vegeta keeps realizing how ridiculously heavy Jiren's punches feel even though just showing
his raw, unselfish feelings completely void of that usual cockiness is one of the things
we never would have heard come from the Prince of Saiyans.
He still yet refuses to give in to this.
And if you had to choose, we would say the awesome, well deserved moment he got his own
unique form has just been highly surpassed by this moment of determination.
And his emotional changes from those evil Dragon Ball Z days isn't over just yet.
It's after Vegeta gets punched out of consciousness and off the stage, saved from elimination
by the sheer luck of a crack in a random rock snatching the fabric of his right boot.
He finds a way to really push himself back up for one final round through the voice of
his wife awakening him from his subconscious.
In fact, Vegeta is so out of it that he even begs her to let him sleep just a little longer
as if he's still in his bed at home.
Proving this time, it isn't his selfish pride as a Saiyan Prince whose cockiness once
told him that his title gives him the right to be the strongest.
No, this time it's the emotions that he feels for another person who he's grown
to love.
And it's a sense of positivity, a sense of selfless motivation, that will later give
his almost unconscious body enough power to build up the energy for one last Final Flash.
Forever ending the negative outlook any person might still have lingering from decades ago
about Vegeta, as well as bringing us back to that familiar state of consciousness that
keeps us watching and rewatching Dragon Ball Z to this very day.
And you might be thinking the writers were adding such emotion to this part of the episode
specifically due only to the fact that it's Vegeta about to get eliminated, but then you
get introduced to this.
After Jiren asks Vegeta what could possibly make him continue on at this point, the true
Prince makes quite a bold statement that not only gets our attention, but also strikes
a nerve for the emotionless Jiren.
Vegeta states that there isn't a way to describe what his motivation is because Jiren
doesn't understand what it means to fight for the sake of protecting another.
This leaves Jiren speechless.
And here's why this is secretly important to point out.
Jiren has been convincing himself that trust is worth nothing.
So he depends on himself only and what that ends up doing is making it so he can never
truly love another person aside from himself.
Hence, the reason for his stone cold demeanor.
But did you realize this is actually the second hidden time someone has broken through Jiren's
heart made of bricks?
The first was when Android 17 started saying some pretty harsh facts to Jiren.
For example, how he could see that Jiren was trying to run away from his past and how that
would never fix his problems.
Which effectively angered Jiren, causing him to lash out at Android 17.
Pushing him back by his face in almost a childish, temper tantrum, kind of way.
But notice the similarity between this and Jiren's reaction to what Vegeta said to
him?
They both tapped into the emotions Jiren has spent years trying to cover up, hide, and
completely forget.
And what this tells us is this might be an important key for Goku to pick up on if he
actually wants to win.
But unfortunately, Goku is distracted from such a small detail when he sees Vegeta getting
thrown off the stage for the last time.
Leaving us with one of the most emotional scenes we've yet to see in Dragon Ball Super.
Tears are falling out of Vegeta's eyes, and ours as well, as he's thinking about
the promises he can't keep.
He will now never win the Super Dragon Balls to bring Cabba back or visit the planet Sadala.
He now has no control over the protection of those closest to him: Bulma, Trunks, and
Bulla.
Instead, he'll now be leaving everything in Goku's hands, his last tiny bit of energy
floating towards Goku's limp body.
And then, our brave warrior stands, and makes a statement of his own that proves Goku is
not simply a battle hungry fighting machine.
I had a few awesome people in the #ANIFAM point out to me in the comments recently that
the noble character Goku is portrayed as in the English versions of Dragon Ball Z is quite
different from the original Japanese version.
Toriyama never agreed with the Superman type of hero personality the dubs were giving to
Goku, and instead he wanted his main character to be unique.
To be a battle hungry Saiyan whose main goal was to strengthen his own self.
This makes sense total sense, but I also know deep down that both the Japanese and English
versions of Dragon Ball Z showed a side to Goku that is, even towards those he's never
met, truly caring.
And now that Vegeta's energy gives Goku the strength to stand again, this statement
proves my point for me.
Just before powering up to Super Saiyan Blue, Goku says, "Vegeta, I hear you loud and
clear."
Our main character is rising to the challenge in front of him for someone else.
So had enough touchy-feely moments for the day?
Well, too bad.
Episode 128 was giving us all the Dragon Ball Z inspired emotion they could find when Jiren
ends Goku's confident stance pretty fast, throwing him into a rock and returning Goku
to his base form, starting quite a panic.
The rest of his sweating team is shown in the stands.
Master Roshi turning his head in disgust at the sight of his student being defeated so
terribly.
Tien pointing out that not even Super Saiyan Blue is doing anything to Jiren.
Uh, did it ever?
ROFLCOPTER.
But leave it to Krillin, Goku's longest and closest friend, to remind everyone that
they've always put their trust in Goku and he's never let them down.
Leading us to wonder:
Will this sense of trust that Jiren completely lacks be the winning, deciding factor between
Universe 7 and Universe 11?
Suddenly, Goku is forcing his hand to the ground, pushing himself to shakily stand up.
He looks Jiren straight in the eyes saying everyone is trusting in him and he's not
about to lose now, which expresses a suspiciously familiar resolve.
Maybe something like this?
This is what we've been waiting on!
These heartfelt emotions describing Goku's deeper motivation is exactly the same.
And you know, it was crazy enough that we saw someone breaking through Jiren's stone
cold heart 2 episodes in a row.
Which is why right before Goku states his resolve, Jiren is trying his best to convince
Goku that he's already done for, pointing out Goku's far beyond reached his limit.
So when Goku comes flying at him with yet another punch, Jiren is left speechless again.
This reaction isn't shock from the fact Goku can all of a sudden move again.
This is Jiren's shock after realizing Goku is using the trust his friends have in him
in order to move.
Totally going against Jiren's way of thinking, right?
Even with this shock to his system, though, Jiren manages to hit Goku over and over and
over again without hardly any resistance until Goku's toes are barely standing on the edge
of elimination.
The Supreme Kai is seen shaking his head declaring that Universe 7 has already lost.
Oh, but us?
We have nothing to fear.
Is it because Goku is the main character?
Never!
It's because Goku's back is slouching over, his head is slumping, a shadow is covering
his face.
This stance can only mean one thing, and one thing only.
Ultra Instinct is returning.
And sure enough as the #ANIFAM had predicted, this technique isn't coming back because
Goku's life is in danger, which has been the reason he's achieved Ultra Instinct
the previous two times.
This time, Vegeta screams out to him and the bangs covering Goku's eyes start to sway.
He hears Jiren's foolish thoughts of, "Trust begets nothing."
Android 17 saying how much he likes doing something as human as sacrificing himself
for others in his last moments.
Each one of his teammates yelling out to him.
Vegeta giving away the last piece of energy, hope, and trust that he has left in him.
Cue the music.
That's right, this time it's those good old Dragon Ball Z emotions that's bringing
Goku back into his most powerful form ever.
And man, does he move extra fast.
Even Jiren can't believe it, and he already fought this once, plus observed it right after.
However, let me just ask you a question.
Do you feel that at this point Jiren is getting nerfed?
We all understand Goku is getting better and better at this technique each time he uses
it.
But enough to the point he can now shock Jiren this much with his speed and hit him with
enough power to make the strongest of opponents bend over?
What really makes you start wondering if this is just bad writing or actually for real
is the fact another Supreme Kai mentions maybe Goku has truly attained Ultra Instinct this
time.
Thing is, this isn't even the perfected form that we know isn't gonna be coming
until Dragon Ball Super Episode 129.
And then to add oil to flame, the rocks under Goku's feet start shaking.
So is this not yet mastered Ultra Instinct really that much stronger than it was before?
Well, in my Discord server, they helped me answer that, the super active #ANIFAM.
