Youtube daily google May 28 2018

In this tutorial we're going to build our very own Action for Google Assistant,

taking advantage of Google's powerful analytics and natural language processing

capabilities.

Google Assistant is everyone's virtual personal assistant, engaging users in conversations to get things done.

It's currently available on more than 500 million devices, and that will quickly grow to

billions as its rolled out to more phones,

automobiles, and smart speakers at home.

You need to have certain permissions enabled. In https://myaccount.google.com/activitycontrols

make sure to enable web and app activity,

device information, and voice and audio activity.

You can find the link to this and other pages in the description for this video.

There are just two consoles we'll be working in, Actions on Google and

DialogueFlow. We'll begin setting some things up without any coding and wrap up the tutorial with some simple JavaScript.

Are you ready to follow along and build? In the Actions on Google console, click on Add/import project.

Let's name our project

"action-intro" and

click CREATE PROJECT.

This may take a moment.

Now if you see a list of categories for your action, click skip on the upper right.

Under BUILD on the left, click Actions.

Click add your first action.

Now we see here a couple of interesting intents, and

templates such as trivia, personality quizzes, and flashcards we can create.

For this exercise, we will use custom intents and click BUILD.

Now in DialogFlow, we're going to create a DialogFlow agent.

The first time you run DialogFlow,

you will need to give it permission to access your Google accounts and Drive and accept the Terms of Service.

We'll name the agent Action-Intro,

select English as our main language, and select my timezone. The action links to our project.

Click CREATE.

After a moment, we'll be on the Intents page.

Let's start with the Welcome Intent.

There are a few things to notice here.

We will write training phrases for the next intent, but for the Welcome Intent this part can be left blank.

Let's look at the Welcome Responses. Hi. Hello. Good Day. We'll delete the default

responses and

instead

type a new response.

"Welcome!

What country do you

live in?"

Now click SAVE.

To test our Action we'll click on Integrations. Ignore for now Facebook Messenger,

Slack, and other integrations. Under Google Assistant, click INTEGRATION SETTINGS. When the app is called,

our welcome intent will first be triggered. We'll enable Auto-preview changes

so that our changes will update in the simulator automatically from now on.

Click TEST.

It takes us back to the Actions on Google page.

You can see different surfaces.

The smart speaker will not have a display, but phones will and that can be quite useful.

Test your actions by

typing or saying "Talk to my test app" below or on any device you're logged into with this Google account.

(Assistant) "Alright. Getting the test version of my test app."

(action-intro) "Welcome. What country do you live in?"

And we see our Welcome Intent triggered.

Right now, if I answer the question our Action will not know what to do and we'll get an error.

"India"

(action-intro) "I didn't get that. Can you say it again?"

"I live in China."

(action-intro) "Say that again?"

Now we need to program a new intent.

Back in the DialogFlow console, we'll close the Integration Settings page and

on the left click on Intents and

Create Intent.

Let's name this Intent resident country and

click SAVE.

Remember that the name is case-sensitive

First we'll add some training phrases.

This will help Google Assistant recognize different ways a user will reply to our question. The app initially says

"Welcome!

What country do you live in?"

We can answer. "I live in South Korea."

Notice that Google defines the parameter for us, in this case. This works with countries, languages, colors, and other entities.

Let's do another. "My home is in

India."

"I reside in Maldives."

"I rent a villa in

Austria."

"I work in South Africa"

"United States"

This time countries were highlighted automatically, but that may not be the case when you try.

You can make sure the parameter is recognized by highlighting specific country names and

choosing the entity Google has predefined for us. Under Action and Parameters, click MANAGE

PARAMETERS AND ACTION.

The geo-country parameter is required, and we check that off,

but let's simplify the parameter name to just "country"

We'll enter a corresponding prompt.

"What country

do you

live in?"

And click close.

Under the fulfillments section,

click ENABLE FULFILLMENT.

Turn on Enable webhook call for this intent and click SAVE.

Now let's look at some simple JavaScript.

Still on the DialogFlow console, click on Fulfillment on the left and enable the Inline Editor.

You will need to enter the following code.

We'll use strict mode and import the DialogFlow module.

We'll also import firebase functions package, and we need an instance of DialogFlow named app.

So for this Intent, resident country,

we get two arguments returned back:

a conversation object with properties about the conversation with the user, and the parameters object, in this case

the country name from the user's response.

We'll count the number of letters in the country name and

assign it to the variable letterCount. Then we'll close the conversation with a message to the user with letterCount and the country name.

With a bit more coding we can account for different scenarios and user inputs here.

Now click DEPLOY.

This may take a few minutes. We'll wait a few moments until it says, "Last deployed."

Now we can go back to the Actions on Google console and use the simulator to test our app.

Click on Simulator and let's talk to the test app.

(Assistant) "Alright. Getting the test version of my test app."

(action-intro) "Welcome. What country do you live in?"

"I live in Indonesia"

(action-intro) "Nice! there are nine letters in Indonesia."

"Talk to my test app"

(Assistant) "Alright. Getting the test version of my test app."

(action-intro) "Welcome. What country do you live in?"

"I work in Kenya"

(action-intro) "Nice! There are five letters in Kenya."

"Canada"

(action-intro) "Nice! There are six letters in Canada."

It seems to be working well now.

What's most impressive about this demonstration is the power of Google assistant to interact and actually understand what users say.

The actions you create can be made available to users all around the world.

I encourage you to experiment with other intents and interactions and follow this channel for more videos in upcoming demonstrations.

How to Measure Keyword Difficulty and Rank on Google (Part 3/3) - Duration: 9:00.

Oh Snap!

I almost tripled my organic traffic in a few months without building links.

And in this video, I'm going to show you exactly how to measure keyword difficulty

so that you can pick the right keywords and get more free search traffic to your website.

Stay tuned.

[music]

Hey guys, Sam Oh here with Ahrefs, the SEO tool that helps you grow your search traffic,

research your competitors and dominate your niche.

This is the final video in our keyword research series.

And in the first two videos we covered key fundamentals that will help you do effective

keyword research and I showed you a few cool ways to generate thousands of great keyword ideas.

This tutorial is all about measuring keyword difficulty and then targeting the ones you

actually have a high chance of ranking for in Google's top 10 search results.

So, let's jump right in.

So for our first example, I'll go to Keywords Explorer and type in "supplements."

Now, I touched on the keyword difficulty metric here in part one of this series, but I didn't

go too in-depth.

And that's because this section here is meant to just give you a top level view of

how hard it will be to rank on Google for this target keyword.

And you can see that it has a keyword difficulty score of 77 and it says that I need 291 websites

to rank in the top 10 for this keyword.

But is that really so?

mmmm...

Not necessarily.

This part here, where it says you'll need 291 links from different websites to rank

in the top 10 isn't a super crazy algorithm.

We just take a weighted average of the top 10 Google rankings.

Also, something that keyword difficulty doesn't take into consideration are on-page factors,

relevance of the topic, and if the backlinks are dofollow or contextual.

So the best way to gauge the difficulty of a keyword is to look at the top 10 Google

rankings, manually examine the quality of their backlinks and see what they're doing.

And you can see all of this information by scrolling down to the SERP overview.

Now, if you look at the top 10 search results, you might be a bit confused.

Vitamin Shoppe ranks quite high with only 4 referring domains, ODS or the Office of

Dietary Supplements ranks below that even though they have thousands of referring domains.

And looking even further below that, this page has just less than 20 referring domains,

yet keyword difficulty said that we need almost 300 unique linking websites.

So what gives?

One word:

relevance!

When you look at the top ranking pages, you'll see that the majority of them are eCommerce

pages, which shows that there's a good chance that someone searching for the keyword phrase

"supplements," is looking to shop.

Now, looking at this result from ODS, you'll see that it's a home page where people have

to navigate to find what they're looking for.

And in this case, I would suspect that this isn't really what people are looking for.

And even though the page may not perfectly match the searcher's intent, they still

rank quite high because they just have way too many backlinks compared to the other ranking sites.

For the other site down here that has very few unique sites linking to them, you'll

see that they match what I believe is the searcher's intent for this keyword, which

you can see is an eCommerce category page.

If you're new to analyzing keyword difficulty, then that might have been a bit heavy.

So let me review this quick keyword difficulty process fast.

First, search for a keyword phrase in Keywords Explorer.

Second, I'll scroll down to look at the top 10 search results and look at the raw

number of referring domains.

And if you notice something like this one that has vastly more referring domains, but

ranks lower than ones like these that have less unique linking websites, then look at

the titles and visit the pages to get a better understanding of how Google tries to serve

the searcher's intent.

And we already know that these are ecommerce categories, which shows that there is likely

some kind of intent to shop when people search for "supplements."

And this goes to prove that just using the referring domains alone to gauge keyword difficulty

isn't always the most reliable either.

Let's look at another example.

If I look at the top 10 search results for the search query, "how to write a cover letter,"

you'll see these results.

And aside from SERP features, the top ranking page has 55 referring domains, and the one

down here from Wikihow, has 209 referring domains.

And if we look at the titles, both seem to be perfectly relevant to what a searcher would

be looking for.

Now, this is where you would need to take an extra step and research the websites that

are linking to these pages.

So, if we look at Up to Work's homepage, it looks like they offer a resume building

tool, which suggests that the rest of the content, and this article on cover letters

is going to be closely related to employment.

Now, I won't even bother going to Wikihow's homepage since I'm sure you know they

write about basically anything on how to topics.

Let's look at their link profiles.

I'll click on the respective numbers and open the referring domains reports in new

tabs.

First, I'm going to set this to the "Dofollow" filter to find only the value passing links.

Finally, I'll sort the domain rating in ascending order.

This is going to help us to spot potentially spammy links.

And you can see that there's one here that looks like an IP address and then there's

another blogspot one here.

But scrolling through the rest of the results, you can see that they come from some pretty

relevant websites.

And if I expand the backlink report here on something like The Oddyssey Online, you can

see that it's a perfectly good editorial link.

In fact, the page linking to it is an article about writing a cover letter that gets you hired.

And the same goes for this one from wework.com.

The article is on how to make a standout resume and looking at the anchor and surrounding

text, the context of the link says that you need to know how to write a good cover letter.

Now let's look at WikiHow's links.

I've already applied the same Dofollow filter and sorted these in ascending order.

And as you can see, the first 70 or 80 referring domains come from spammy blogspot sites.

But, if we go to page 2, you can see that they do have some perfectly good links in

here, which is probably why they rank in the top 10, but in my opinion, it looks like the

first ranking page has more solid links from other relevant domains in their space.

The last thing I want to touch on is a bit more of an advanced technique, and that's

SERP volatility.

Even if you're a complete beginner to keyword research, I'm going to give you such vivid

examples that should give you a ton of value.

So, if we go back to our first example on the keyword, "supplements," and scroll

down the page, you'll see this graph called SERP position history.

This graph shows you the position history for the pages that currently rank in the top

5 for a given keyword.

Now, when you look at this graph, you can see how volatile the rankings have been particularly

for the orange line and the green line.

Now, if we click on the corresponding checkboxes here to remove them from the graph, then you'll

see that the other top ranking pages have been more stable as of the past few months.

What's even more interesting here is that the ones that are jumping from completely

invisible to a top 10 ranking are all non-ecommerce category pages.

This is basically telling us how "satisfied" Google is with the current rankings.

If they're consistently promoting and demoting new pages in and out of the top 10 results,

there's likely some kind of indication that the current ranking results aren't properly

serving search intent.

Now, compare this graph to our other example on "how to write a cover letter," and

you'll see that the position history is a lot more stable here aside from the red

one, which just looks like they've been actively building links and progressively

ranking higher in Google.

One final example I want to show you is for the query "cars" vs. "best cars."

If you look at the query for "cars", the SERP positions have been super volatile.

But look at the different ranking pages.

There's a few that are clearly about automobiles, but then there's also top ranking pages

from IMDB, Wikipedia and Disney which are talking about the movie Cars.

So clearly, the searcher's intent on this query can go either way.

But take a look at the history for the search query, "best cars."

When someone types this in, they're clearly looking for reviews or comparisons on different

vehicles.

And as expected, the SERP results seem to be quite stable, so this tells me that Google

seems to be satisfied with the results they're showing here.

So analyzing the position history of the top 5 rankings is a good extra measure to take

before selecting your keywords because it tells you a lot about how Google views the

searcher's intent and you should know right away, whether you can serve that intent or not.

So as you can see, keyword difficulty can't be summed up into a number.

You need to analyze the top 10 ranking pages to get a full view of the quantity and quality

of unique backlinks.

You need to understand the searcher's intent behind a keyword so when you create your piece,

you can match the searcher's intent.

From there, you can pick and choose the keywords that will drive a ton of valuable traffic

to your website.

That's it for this keyword research series.

There's a YouTube card right up here with a link to the playlist.

strategies over here and feel free to ask questions and I'd be happy to jump in and help.

So keep grinding away, and I'll see you in the next video.

Meet Network Engineers at Google - Duration: 1:52.

My name is Monica and I'm a network engineer.

My name is Keith Weinstein, my job title is a network engineer. A network

engineer Google can have several different roles depending on the type of

network and the domain in which they're working. I specifically work in the

architecture building and deployments of the data center networks. We are the

largest network infrastructure probably in the world and that's what helps connect

the the data centers and provides the connectivity for our users to Google

services. A day in the life for me as a network engineer: I typically used my

first couple hours being on the East Coast to catch up on some code. I usually

have some kind of meetings by midday when the morning has arrived in Silicon

Valley and it's basically a flexible day. We try to keep the meetings minimum and

focus our time on collaboration and knocking out the automation work we need

to build and deploy our networks. We have a very supportive culture I would say.

I've never had a mentor before I came to Google and here I've had the best mentor

and I've been a mentor to other people. I think that's big part of the culture.

Everything we are working with is cutting-edge and brand new so it's

exciting and we are we are always being innovative. You're always in a role

where you're going to be doing something new that possibly no one else has done before.

Google Home Mini Review - 6 Months Later - Duration: 10:21.

What's happening YouTube, Josh Teder here for 6 Months Later and today

we'll be taking a look at the Google Home Mini. Now we've already done a first

impressions video of the Google Home Mini six months ago, so this video will

focus on the device after six months of use. Google first unveiled the Google

Home Mini in the fall of 2017 to compete head-to-head with the Amazon Echo Dot, a

$40.00 mini speaker that allows you to interact with Alexa, Amazon's smart

assistant. The Echo Dot was a game changer because of its price point, it

allowed people to have multiple Alexa enabled devices and place them in all

different types of rooms in their homes. This as well as the fact that Amazon was

first to market with their original Echo device, helped Amazon just dominate the

smart speaker space for years. Even today, they still hold a 52% market share,

according to estimates by the Loup Group, while Google currently holds a 32%

market share, which is thanks in part to this little guy, the Google Home Mini. The

Google Home Mini is a small and mighty speaker that is powered by the Google

Assistant. The Google Assistant is the entire reason why this device is so

great, as with all other Google Home devices. Now here at 6 Months Later we

do these product reviews after six months because you really can't tell

just within a few weeks of using a device if it is going to significantly

impact your day-to-day living or routines, and when it comes to the Google

Home Mini, I can say without a doubt it has significantly impacted my day-to-day

routines after six months of use and it's impacted them for the better.

Setting up the Google Home Mini is a breeze as with every other Google home

device. You simply set up the device using the Google Home app, which is

available to download for iOS or Android. The app will take you step-by-step

through the setup process which takes less than five minutes and then you are

good to go and you can start using your Google Home

Mini. There is just so much you can do with a Google Home Mini as well as with

other Google Home devices thanks to the Google Assistant. You can ask your Google

Home Mini all sorts of questions like who is Elon Musk. Me: "Who is Elon Musk?" Google Home Mini "According

to Wikipedia, Elon Reeve musk is a South African born, American business magnate

investor and engineer." Or tell it phrases like these violent delights have violent

ends. Google Home Mini: "The maze wasn't meant for you. Just kidding,

mazes are fun for everyone." You can use your Google Home Mini to set alarms and

reminders, get the news, ask about your commute to work, make phone calls, control

your smart home devices, like your lights or your thermostat. Google Home Mini: "You got it, turning

off four lights." and if you have a Chromecast TV and a newer TV that

supports HDMI CEC, you can even have your Google Home Mini turn on and off your

television. Me: "Turn on the TV." Me: Play Google Home six months later review on YouTube,

on chromecast TV." Now my personal favorite feature of the Google Home

devices, including the Google Home Mini, is music and media playback. You can hook

up a lot of your streaming service accounts to your Google Home Mini, such

as Spotify, Google Play Music, Netflix, Pandora, and of course YouTube, and many

other services. Now I actually went with Google Play

Music for my music subscription service with all of my Google Home devices

simply because Google bundled the music service with no ads on YouTube. I

actually really like that service because you're paying the $9.99 you

would for something like Spotify but then you're also getting no ads on

YouTube, which if you're watching this, you're obviously watching it on YouTube

and if you don't want ads on YouTube, that's a pretty great bundle of services

right there. So I really enjoy using that. If you don't have any

streaming services, typically when you buy a lot of these devices there's a free

trial that comes with it, especially if you buy a Google Home device during the

holidays. Google has run a lot of different promotions when you buy this

device, so even Spotify I think had a promotion last Christmas, so I do

recommend checking out a music streaming service if you don't already subscribe

to one and you bought one of these devices, because it just makes listening

to music so much better on these devices. I've used the Google Play Music service

so much that what will happen now is it already learned like all of my habits.

I'll tell it to play one song and then when it's almost finished playing that

song, I'll think of another song in my head I want it to play and before I can

even ask it to play the song I'm thinking of, it'll already just start

playing it. It's weird, it's like it read my mind and the reason for that is, if

you use the service enough the algorithms are going to start figuring

out the patterns of music that you like to listen to depending on time of day,

what day it is, what season it is, and then it can already kind of determine

what type of music you're going to want to listen to next based on what you've

asked it to play. And the amount of times it's actually done this and played the

song I was thinking of in my head is crazy. These algorithms that companies

like Spotify and Google usee for their music streaming services make using the

Google Home devices just so much better for music streaming. The speaker itself

is decent for its price range, but don't buy this and expect great sound to come

out of it. Podcasts sound decent, but actual music can be hit or miss

depending on how the song was mixed and how much bass there is. Unfortunately, you

just don't get that much bass coming out of the Google Home Mini. The microphone

on the Mini is quite good and can pick up your voice over ambient sounds like

rain, a shower running etc. The design of the Google Home Mini is also pretty nice

aesthetically. I think it looks better than the Amazon Echo Dot. Google's

devices overall just look more inviting than Amazon's.

Amazon's look a little to space-age for my taste. I also love that the Google

Home Mini comes in three colors: chalk, charcoal, and coral. So no matter what

room you plan to put it in, there should be a Google Home Mini color that matches.

Now unfortunately for some out there, Google decided not to put a 3.5

audio-out jack on the Google Home Mini like Amazon did with the Echo Dot. Now

this doesn't mean that you can't listen to music through the Google Assistant on

speakers you already own that have an audio input jack. All you have to do is

just simply get a Google Chromecast Audio, plug it into the speakers you

already own, and then cast music to it from your Google Home Mini. You can also

pair the Google Home Mini to another speaker via Bluetooth. For more

information on how to do that, check out the quick tutorial we did in the video

description below or just click on the card in the video. Now the way you

interact with the Google Home Mini is mainly with your voice though there are

a few physical controls with the Mini. You can tap each side of the device to

increase or decrease the volume. Tap and hold to play or pause media, and there is

also a mute switch on the back of the device, and a USBC cable you can use for

power. Google added some nice clips along with the power cable for cable

management, and they work great. Now I know a lot of people stick their Google

Home Minis and all sorts of different types of rooms around their house and

for me one of my favorite features of the Google Home devices is music

playback, so I own a lot more Google Homes and Google Home Maxes than I do

Google Home Minis. So I was kind of at a loss when I got my Google Home Mini,

to figure out exactly where I was going to put it. I ended up putting mine in the

bathroom so I could listen to music in the shower and play the news when I'm

getting ready in the morning. I was a bit worried with how the humidity would

affect the performance of the speaker, but I'm happy to say that I haven't had

any issues with it at all and I use my Google home Mini in the bathroom all the

time. Now overall, after six months of use I haven't had any issues with my Google

Home Mini speaker. It's just been this little great small and mighty speaker, as

advertised, and it's a great speaker if you just want the Google Assistant

somewhere in your home and you don't care about the music quality for music

playback. Now if you're going to listen to a lot of music on a Google Home

device, I'd of course steer you towards the Google Home Max if you want to spend

$400 for great sounding music. Or I'd steer you towards the Google Home if you

can't quite swing the Max's price. We have videos on both of these devices if

you would like to learn more about them, but if you don't care about the lower

performance in audio quality of the Google Home Mini, then I think the

Mini is a great buy that you can't go wrong with. Well that's it for our

6 Months Later review of the Google Home Mini. If you like this video, please give

us a thumbs up on the video and subscribe to the channel if you'd like

to see more Google Home videos like this one. If you're new to the Google hHme

family, or want to brush up on all of the features the Google Assistant now

supports, be sure and check out our Google Home features update videos

time, thanks again so much for watching. I'm Josh Teder for 6 Months Later.

Top 15 Scary Things You Should NEVER Google - Duration: 25:04.

15.

Hinterkaifeck This small farmstead about 43 miles north

of Munich was devastated by an event that occurred on March 31st, 1922.

This unsolved case involved six people - an entire family, including two grandparents

and their 35-year-old daughter, along with the daughter's two young children, and the

family's maid, all having their lives taken with a pickaxe like tool.

Several days before this event occurred, Andreas, the grandfather of the farm, told his neighbors

that he'd seen one-way footprints in the snow heading toward his farm from the forest.

He also said that he'd found a newspaper he wasn't familiar with and had heard someone

in the attic.

The house keys had gone missing as well.

Whatever occurred that day on the farm must have been a nightmare - one that you won't

be able to unsee if you should google the event.

Investigators believe that each member of the family was somehow lured into the barn

in turn, after which they had their lives taken with a mattock.

The two-year-old boy and the maid were both found in the house.

The maid had just arrived on the farm the day of the attack, as the previous maid had

quit, because she thought the farm was haunted.

The perpetrators are believed to have stayed in the home for several days after the events,

as smoke was seen from the chimney by neighbors.

It wasn't until the next week that the family was found and, after investigating, which

brought forth over 100 suspects, the case has since gone cold.

Don't google it, or you'll feel even colder.

14.

Cabin 28 Another unsolved case that will keep you up

at night, this one occurred in Keddie, California in 1981.

Four lives were taken in Cabin 28 of the Keddie Resort, a mother, her son, her daughter, and

a friend.

The daughter was not found at the scene, but was recovered three years later in Camp 18

in 1984.

One of the other daughters discovered the scene, after returning to the cabin from a

sleepover.

The events was particularly vicious, and although more than 4,000 man-hours were spent trying

to solve the case, it went cold.

Two suspects have since been considered, both of whom have since passed away.

If you want to go to sleep tonight, don't look into this case, because it will have

you jumping at every sound.

13.

Andrei Romanovich Chikatilo You've heard of Jack the Ripper, but have

you heard of the Rostov Ripper?

If you haven't, don't google him.

The Rostov Ripper, also known as the Butcher of Rostov or the Red Ripper, was an active

Soviet serial killer from 1978 to 1990.

Yep, that's a twelve year spree, for which the evil individual, Andrei Romanovich Chikatilo,

eventually confessed taking the lives of 52 people during this period.

Also confessing to doing bizarre things with the bodies like chewing off noses.

Please, do not google the rest.

The man's predisposition to eating people may stem back to his youth.

When he was a child, his mother told him that his brother had been kidnapped when he was

four years old and had been eaten by neighbors who were starving.

While this account has never been confirmed, these stories were not unusual for Soviet

times.

When Chikatilo was caught on a spree for the second time in 1990, he said during his confession,

that his victims were everywhere: "I did not need to look for them," he told investigators.

"Every step I took, they were there."

Cue infinite chills.

12.

The Case of the Lead Masks You should never google "The Lead Masks

Case," unless you're looking for a real head-scratcher.

This case is unsolved and involves various events that resulted in the passings of Manoel

Pereira da Cruz and Miguel José Viana, two Brazilian electronic technicians.

Their bodies were recovered on August 20, 1966 after a young man flying a kite discovered

them on Vintém Hill in Rio de Janeiro.

Each of the men were wearing a lead eye mask, a waterproof coat, and a formal suit, and

neither body showed signs of a struggle.

An empty water bottle laid beside them, along with a bag of two wet towels and a notebook

with cryptic messages written on it.

One message read: "16:30 be at the specified location.

18:30 ingest capsules, after the effect protect metals await signal mask."

In their final hours, witnesses noted that Miguel had appeared "very nervous" and

was checking his watch regularly.

When they were found, the autopsy showed that their internal organs were too decomposed

for testing.

Theories about what actually happened to the pair run the gamut from UFOs to foul play

to some sort of cult group of "scientific spiritualists."

If you want to be googling for hours on end, go ahead and delve into this case.

But don't say I didn't warn you.

11.

Faryion Wardrip Knowing that someone might take a life for

no apparent reason makes you want to become a permanent shut-in.

Faryion Edward Wardrip is one of those serial killers who you'll wish you hadn't googled.

He was active in Texas in the mid-80s, where he began a spree that spanned two years.

He took the lives of five women, all younger than 25 years old and small in size and stature.

After taking his final life in 1986, Wardrip called and confessed to taking the life of

Tina Kimbrew within 72 hours of doing it.

He was sentenced to 35 years in prison and, after serving less than a third of that sentence,

was released on parole in 1997, with the restriction of an ankle monitor.

However, in 1999, two more lives were linked to Wardrip via new DNA evidence.

Wardrip also confessed to a third and fourth, and for all this, he was sentenced to lethal

injection.

Unless you want to be in a permanent state of paranoid, it's best to avoid reading

more into this individual.

10.

The Robison Family This case involves the lives taken of Richard

Robison and his wife and four children in 1968.

The upper-middle-class family from Michigan all had their lives taken during a vacation

in their cottage on Lake Michigan.

They weren't discovered for 27 days, which led to advanced decomposition.

However, it was clear they'd all been shot, and both Richard and his wife had been struck

with a hammer.

While the case went unsolved for more than a year, the investigation eventually led to

an employee of Robison's named Joseph Raymond Scolaro III, who had been embezzling.

Scolaro knew he was about to be charged and arrested for his actions, so he took his own

life on March 8, 1973, leaving behind a note which said: "I am a lier [sic]—a cheat—a

phony" along with a list of those he'd swindled in business.

While this may appear to be a confession, he also wrote a note to his mother, saying

he hadn't taken their lives and asking God to forgive him.

But it appears the police clearly thought otherwise.

9.

Dorothy Jane Scott We all laugh when we say we're "facebook

stalking" someone, but stalking is not a laughing matter.

It can turn horrifying, as it did in the case of Dorothy Jane Scott in 1980.

Scott had taken her two colleagues to the hospital after one suffered a spider bite.

They were waiting for a prescription, and Scott ran outside to bring the car around,

but as her car approached the entrance, it suddenly sped up and drove away.

Her colleagues couldn't see inside the car, due to the blinding headlights.

They reported their friend missing a couple hours later, and it was later discovered that

a man had been stalking her for months, even going so far as to make anonymous phone calls

to her and threatening to "cut [her] up into bits so no one will ever find [her]."

When Scott was still missing in June of that year, a local newspaper published a story

about her disappearance, and a man called in, claiming to have taken life.

Scott's mother also received phone calls over the span of four years from a man claiming

the same.

Finally, in 1984, some of Scott's remains were uncovered, but the case was never solved

and should not be Googled.

It remains one of the strangest unsolved events.

8.

The BTK Strangler Many have heard of the American serial killer

known as the BTK Strangler.

But when you unmask this person via Google, you become his next victim, because his brutal

slayings will haunt your dreams.

Dennis Lynn Rader is the BTK, unmasked.

He came upon the Kansas scene in 1974 and over nearly two decades, took ten lives, the

last of which occurred in 1991.

Apart from his sadistic treatment of his victims, he took his dedication to insanity a step

further by dressing up in their clothes, as though to taunt them or reenact their passings

by his hands.

Images of the scenes and his victims are something you should never Google.

Doing so will make your stomach turn.

How did he get away with it for so long?

From 1974 to 1988, he worked as a security alarm installer with ADT Security Services,

installing systems in homes where unknowing homeowners wanted to secure themselves from

the very man who was installing it: the BTK Strangler.

His sadism went a step further when he began to taunt police, the media, and the general

public by sending letters detailing his actions to area news and the police.

He was free for more than a decade after his taking his last life, after which, it seems,

he could no longer fight the urge to taunt the police some more, so he started sending

letters again in 2004, which led to his capture in 2005.

He is now serving ten consecutive life sentences.

7.

Meredith Kercher This is one of those cases where trial by

media led many to convict those accused of taking the life of Kercher even before the

trial began.

You're likely more familiar with the accused - Amanda Knox - than you are with the victim.

Knox was Kercher's American roommate, and she and her Italian boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito,

were at once tried for the taking her life.

If you have a queasy stomach, do not google the related photos of this event.

According to Knox's account, she discovered the front door open and drops of red liquid

in the bathroom on the morning of November 2nd, 2007.

Kercher's door was locked, and Knox didn't think anything of it.

But when she returned later that day with her boyfriend, Kercher still didn't answer

her door, and the pair noticed a broken window.

That's when they called the police.

After Kercher's body was found, a crazy media circus began to acrobat around the event.

The pair were charged and only after that were fingerprints found at the crime scene

belonging to a totally different person, who was eventually found guilty.

While the pair's conviction was eventually annulled in 2015, to this day, the Supreme

Court of Cassation stated that it was a "proven fact" that Knox was at the scene while Kercher's

life was being taken.

Unless you have time to sift through a bunch of terrible police work and media misinformation

in the search for truth, I'd skip this one.

6.

The Sodder Family Fire What happened to the Sodder Family on Christmas

Eve, December 24, 1945?

That's the question many have asked since the fire destroyed their home in Fayetteville,

West Virginia.

The Sodder Family, led by George and Jenny, had ten children, nine of whom were living

at home at the time of the fire.

Four of the children, along with George and Jennie, escaped the fire, while the remaining

five were never recovered.

For some reason, the family believed the others had survived and were only missing.

They began putting up billboards of the remaining children on State Route 16 during the 1950s.

The billboard remained until the late 1980s.

George Sodder insisted that the fire was arson and not, as the fire department had stated,

an electrical fire.

George began to theorize that the Sicilian Mafia had taken his five children, as punishment

for George's opposition to Mussolini in his native Italy.

Investigations on the state and federal level brought forth nothing.

However, in the '60s, the Sodder family received what they believed was a photo of

one of their sons as an adult.

What really happened?

Don't Google it unless you want to be flooded with conspiracy theories.

5.

Frédéric Bourdin Have you ever wanted to become another person?

Frédéric Bourdin, a serial imposter, known as "The Chameleon," will show you how

it's done.

Bourdin has assumed more than 500 false identities since he was a child.

At least three of these identities were those of missing persons, including Nicholas Barclay.

And if not for one investigator, he could have pulled it off.

At 13 years old, Nicholas Barclay disappeared from San Antonio, Texas in June of 1994 after

playing basketball with his friends.

He was never seen or heard from again.

That is, until Bourdin stole his identity three years later and, in 1997, flew to the

US.

Despite his French accent and brown eyes, where Nicholas had blue ones, Bourdin was

able to convince the Barclays that he was their son, and that his takers had changed

his eye color.

The Barclays took Bourdin in, and he lived with them for five months.

However, a private investigator who was working with a TV crew capturing footage of the family

became suspicious of Bourdin, whose ears didn't match Nicholas'.

The FBI got involved and took the man's DNA and fingerprints, which were, of course,

matched with his real identity.

He was charged with perjury and passport fraud and was sent to prison for six years.

Did he learn from this punishment?

Of course not.

He tried the act again, returning to France and claiming to be Léo Balley, a 14-year-old

missing boy.

He then tried again in Spain, claiming to be Ruben Sanchez Espinoza, whose mother had

passed away in Madrid.

No one fell for the act in those cases.

However, not long after, he successfully lived for a month as Spanish orphan, Francisco Hernandes-Fernandez,

at the College Jean Monnet in Pau, France.

If you don't want to find yourself in a catch-me-if-you-can rabbit hole of false identities,

don't google Frédéric Bourdin.

4.

Johann "Jack" Unterweger This Austrian serial killer took lives across

several countries and continents and became a minor celebrity doing it.

Do not google this man.

Johann was first caught and convicted of taking a life in 1974, but was released in 1990 after

being "rehabilitated."

He was embraced by Austrian society, so much so that the autobiography he'd written was

being taught in schools, and he even became a journalist.

He was sent to LA to write a story for an Austrian magazine, and during his time there,

he is believed to have taken the lives of three women.

He was also later found guilty of taking the lives of 6 women in Austria and one in Czechoslovakia

within a year of his release in 1990.

Rehabilitated?

I think not.

After he was convicted of these additional acts and sentenced to life in prison without

parole, he took his own life.

For taking the lives of all these women, he truly is a sick human being.

3.

R. Bud Dwyer Pennsylvanian Republican state Senator, Robert

Budd Dwyer, served as the 30th Treasurer of Pennsylvania from 1981, until his passing

in 1987.

It was then that things went wrong.

A little backstory: state withholding errors in the early 80s resulted in an overpayment

of federal taxes by state workers in Pennsylvania.

This led to accounting firms competing for a multimillion-dollar contract to find out

how much compensation was owed these state workers.

Well, who was in charge of choosing the accounting firm to win this contract?

Robert B. Dwyer was.

Computer Technology Associates, the California firm that eventually won the $4.6 million

contract, allegedly bribed Dwyer with $300,000 worth of kickbacks, which led to Dwyer being

found guilty on 11 counts of conspiracy, perjury, mail fraud, and interstate transportation

in aid of racketeering.

He was faced with a potential $300,000 fine and up to 55 years in prison, and his sentencing

was scheduled for January 23rd, 1987.

But he would not live to see that day.

After requesting and failing to receive the assurance of a presidential pardon, Dwyer

told his press secretary to arrange a press conference for the day before his sentencing.

Reporters expected to hear Dwyer announce his resignation the next morning, but instead,

the agitated Dwyer appeared before the press to claim his innocence and read a rambling

21-page text about the problems with the criminal justice system.

After the 30-minute speech was over, he continued with the final page of his prepared remarks,

and then said, "Please leave immediately if you have a weak stomach or mind since I

don't want to cause physical or mental distress."

Then, after telling his family he loved them, he said, "Good bye to you all on the count

of 3.

Please make sure that the sacrifice of my life is not in vain."

He passed out some envelopes to be delivered to specific people, including his family,

and then took out a blued Smith & Wesson revolver from a manila envelope.

And that's when panic ensued.

Some fled, others pleaded that Dwyer put down the gun.

But after a moment, on live television, Dwyer took his own life.

If you have any sense or respect, don't google it.

Remember mental health resources are always available if you need someone to talk too.

2.

The 4Chan Serial Killer 4chan is known for allowing users to post

anonymously.

In many cases, this can lead to bad things.

Very bad things.

For instance, when a serial killer uses 4chan to brag about what he claims is his own work.

In August of 2015, one user posted to the /b/ board - a board known for random postings.

He wrote: "I have [taken the lives of] several women for pleasure…If you can guess a name

of any of these women I will upload their photo."

He went on to dictate that no more than ten guesses per post was allowed, and any names

guessed after that would be ignored.

He also said that he had disposable camera pics and polaroids, and some pics before and

after.

Making it into a game of sorts, he claimed that if readers guessed all the names, he'd

reveal where he dumped a body in 1999.

Then he said that, to get the ball rolling, he'd post one of his victims for "free,"

since readers were unlikely to guess her name.

Some 4channers began calling the guy out, saying he was full of it and the timestamp

was wrong, while others started guessing names.

The first woman he posted was later identified as Shauna Maynard, who had her life taken

in the late 90s in Vegas.

Soon, a name that was guessed was a match, so a new pic was posted.

This started raising alarms.

After that, this person posted again with more pictures.

This is when users started to alert the FBI.

The 4Chan serial killer went on hiatus temporarily, but returned in September to post more photos,

this time of a man.

With the first posted image, this person wrote "dying, dying," and with the second, he

wrote, "dead."

The uploader said he'd return in a month to "finish the game" but said he might

have to use a different site, since his posts kept getting removed on 4Chan.

Was it all a hoax?

Most believe this person to be legit, as the photos didn't look staged, nor did they

appear to be crime scene photos.

In any case, this mystery has yet to be solved.

Nikki Catsouras Photographs When 18-year-old Nikki Catsouras was involved

in a high speed car chase in 2006 near Lake Forest, California, she lost control of her

father's Porsche 911 Carrera and hit a toll booth while driving speeds of more than 100

mph.

And there was a huge controversy following the event, as photographs of the scene were

leaked and published on the internet.

Catsouras passed away on impact.

Newsweek reported that the "accident was so gruesome the coroner wouldn't allow her

parents to identify their daughter's body."

But somehow, after California Highway Patrol officers photographed the scene and forwarded

these images to colleagues, the photos appeared online.

Later, two California Highway Patrol employees, Aaron Reich and Thomas O'Donnell, confessed

to leaking the photos.

The parents of the girl discovered these horrific photos of their child online, and they began

receiving harassing emails, which included the images in them.

A fake Myspace tribute to Catsouras was also set up, but it simply contained links to the

photos.

These images are so horrible, you should never Google them.

All of this harassment and damage resulted in the Catsouras' parents homeschooling

their youngest daughter, and the family sued the CHP and the two dispatch supervisors who

leaked the photos, eventually reaching a settlement with the CHP for $2.37 million in damages.

Hopefully, they received some closure.

Lindsay Pearson is the executive producer on the sims 4 at Electronic

Arts she is passionate about games and the sims she has been working for The

Sims for more than a decade what does a producer do you ask they take the

overall design vision and work with all disciplines to make it come to life

during execution producers make sure the game is fun and maintain the quality

gameplay and players desire the Sims is a life simulation game that gives the

player the tools to create and control Sims in-game players can create unique

Sims build their homes discover beautiful worlds and play with your Sims

life this gives players the opportunity to be creative express themselves and

tell their stories play with life designing for The Sims here at Maxis

game designers transform ideas and concepts into interactive experiences

for players to enjoy for the Sims this means distilling our daily and exciting

human lives into a set of rules behaviors and achievements how do we

turn the complexity of life into a fun game while providing behind-the-scenes

systems that reflect the reality of the world designers think about how players

can poke at these virtual beings through a few stages

including research ideation prototyping and iteration research how has a new

feature like vampires been represented before to better understand players

perception of something designers engage with popular media like

books movies and TV shows they also investigate existing video and board

games to understand how their rules and mechanics drive player behavior ideation

the power of a design team lies in exploratory collaboration with everyone

bringing their best ideas from their unique viewpoints here a brainstorm

session generates ideas for vampire powers and designers give feedback on

the benefits and risks of individual powers prototyping turning ideas into a

playable game is a big leap and a stepping stone in the middle a prototype

can prove invaluable this early prototype allowed for the evaluation of

a social system under consideration without requiring other game systems to

be functional iteration nothing comes out perfectly at first how powerful

should our Ram pyres be how many resources should a power take using

tools to be able to update behaviors and tweet numbers can be vital to making the

game fun to play art for the sims in this room you see the tools artists used

to create assets from start to finish and there are many steps an asset in a

game goes through before player can experience it many 3d assets for games

have more restrictions than the visual effects in movies and TV models made for

the sims must be built efficiently as well as stay visually consistent with

other models Sims and V effects in game in the example here a market stand has

been requested by designers and producers to add unique gameplay in a

new type of lot brainstorming and reference general reference related to

an asset is collected then many ideas are written down and discussed among

artists although they may also do loose sketches assets are put together into

room view sketches to show what an area might look like the

pieces that are the best fit are discussed with art direction before work

on final concept art begins concept art concept artists visualize what elements

will be important to a 3d model in 2d traditional tools are still sometimes

used but final concept art is done in 2d software color Theory materials an

understanding function are important to create compelling concept art that

translates easily into 3d creating the 3d model 3d modelers use information

from animators engineers and concept art to create a 3d template for a model for

prototyping then create a final model to go in game the textures are created in

2d in a separate program then applied on the object like wrapping paper it's in

the game in addition to creating 3d models environment artists use software

made for the sims to create the world they set up all houses and Parks you see

when playing the game the ground is sculpted and then individual assets are

placed including lights and visual effect emitters making sims move once

designs have been written and 3d models have been built

it's the animation team's turn to bring it all to life through the digital art

of motion from architecting movement flow reflecting designs vision to acting

out zany reference videos animators are responsible for every step in the

process to create believable entertaining and often dramatic physical

performances of our loveable Sims here you can see the entire process creating

animation for gpo for vampires a vampire power to mesmerize translating design

into motion all animation for the sims starts with a conversation between

designers which then gets translated into an animation flow plan also known

as an animation state machine in image a designer is describing wanting a

vampire to have a special power to fully take control of a sim leaving the poor

sim in a looping mesmerised state for up to eight sim hours an animator then

translates this request into what animations will be needed to make this

possible in order to have animation play for a variable amount of time the

animation needs to be made up of a short loop which can be broken out of at any

point the designer wishes this is what a looping animation structure for

mesmerise looks like it consists of a start a looping animation and a stop the

book ends of this come from and go to our default standing pose allowing the

sim to return to doing normal actions within the game planning animation using

reference video animators shoot reference as the first step in

translating their ideas into movement this allows the animator to capture the

visual blueprint for acting in a quick and cheap format it can be reshot

quickly per the director's feedback to hone in on an idea prior to beginning to

animate if an animator were to take the time to animate the idea without

reference it could cause unnecessary rework in this example animators are

defining the acting choices for our vampire and the mesmerised sim process

of animation animators working on the sims use the pose-to-pose method to

block out full-body key poses defining acting landmarks for where the animation

is headed this method allows the director to provide feedback on timing

weight and visual interest from the very beginning of the animation once blocking

poses and timing are approved the animator begins to breakdown the motion

by defining arcs and weight and finally polishing the animation by adding facial

animation and finger detail testing animation in game an animators job is

not done once an animation is final they still need to test that

animations and the flow they've set up works properly in the game

animators on the Sims test every animation clip one by one looking for

technical problems such as this in this image our animator is debugging why

there simipour shrunken in the game in this rare case an animator has

accidentally connected their adult sim vampire animation to a child sim

animation skeleton easily fixed by going back to the animation state machine and

correcting the connections making the Sims speak in a simulated game where the

player has total control the player strives to make a life for their sims

what the Sims do and say is critical to the players experience and storytelling

abilities the sims use a made-up language Simlish to create an assortment

of conversation for the players to interpret the sims voices need to be

believable without having specific meaning behind their words acting with

emotion and humor are the process by which the audio team achieves this

director's chair the voice director prepares for each animation the actors

will perform against by assessing what is the intention behind the animation

what emotion or emotions would be meaningful

how can Simlish add value and/or humor where appropriate during the session the

voice director sits here and guides the actors to give a great performance

engineer station after setting up the microphones and recording software the

engineer works the session from here they listen and adjust the equipment for

audio levels and frequency balances to best capture the voice acting actors

actors are chosen for their voice qualities emotional performance range

and improvisational skills Simlish is comprised of partially defined words and

improvised syllables to create emotional meaning the actors perform to the

animation renders on a big screen while the voice director talks to them through

the headphones synthesizers and effects musical instruments synthesizers and

special effects can add character and personality to one's normal voice

transforming it into otherworldly characters like ghosts vampires aliens

and the grim reaper pitch changing time delay and modulation are the basic

effects building behavior for the sims our games inspiration is life itself

sims are unique individuals that interact with the world to generate

experiences sims gather and socialize with each other based on their

personalities cultural backgrounds and even their current emotions over long

periods of time these interactions develop permanent relationships once a

sim starts a family they become part of a large network of ancestry gameplay

engineering combines art and design with programming to create fun filled yet

believable player experiences this group of developers is iterating on working

features that originated from the whiteboard brainstorms socialization

sims are social beings they go to school have jobs exercise and of course party

sims enjoy the company of their friends at gatherings prank coworkers share

stories discuss similar interests can be mean to each other and sometimes wish to

simply stay alone at home all this behavior is created with engineering

social positioning when sims socialize they must position themselves

appropriately non-touching socials require sims to be nearby and visible

for socials like chatting while touching socials require reserved space for

socials like hugging and kissing and some socials may even center around an

object like a chess table Sims can multitask and socialize while cooking or

watching TV and even prefer to be near Sims with positive relationships

relationships sims build long-term relationships with every sim and object

they interact with with other sims it can manifest as

friendship or romance with inanimate objects it can be their favorite toy or

a comforting family memorabilia Sims interact differently with a long-lost

friend an ex-boyfriend a best friend forever or a romantic interest which can

drive them into new types of relationships building ancestry

engineers build simple representations called data structures to solve

real-world problems by recording each Sims parents grandparents and spouse the

game can generate complex family trees designers can use these structures to

build socials that only show up between an uncle and a nephew or a husband and

wife bringing the Sims to our players as development nears completion its

marketing's job to get players excited about the game and want to purchase it

marketing helps players understand what's unique about the game sets its

price organises its promotion and works with various retail stores to sell it to

help make these decisions it's important for marketing to understand who their

players are and what they want in the game experience creating marketing

materials every game needs unique artwork to help sell it at a store or

online accompanied by engaging sales copy videos and images these materials

are some of the most important resources that marketing leverages to promote the

game promoting the game promotion generates awareness that the game is

available for purchase common methods of promotion include advertisements press

interviews and even YouTube live streams where the developers demonstrate the

game and answer questions directly from players tracking performance as soon as

it's released marketing reviews the games sales performance and feedback

from players they use this information to see how they are tracking to their

sales goal and to refine their marketing approach going forward
