S. Korea is encouraging N. Korea-US talks - Duration: 1:00.
The clock is ticking as South Korea's president tries to encourage talks between the U.S.
and North Korea.
A spokesperson for President Moon Jae-in said Monday the U.S. needs to "lower its bar for
dialogue" and said the North must "show its willingness to denuclearize" in order for
talks between the two countries to work.
Moon said in a statement Sunday he met with the North Korean delegation before the closing
ceremony of the Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
And he said the North indicated it was willing to talk with the U.S.
Not long after, the White House said it will see if North Korea's apparent willingness
to meet
But, as The Washington Post points out, time could be running out for Moon to coordinate
the talks.
South Korea and the U.S. are expected to conduct annual joint military drills in the coming
weeks.
North Korea has repeatedly expressed anger over the drills.
And, according to the Post, the North has been known to put inter-Korean relations on
hold during the joint exercises.

He told news outlets Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is sorry to see him go.
Yun's decision comes as North Korea hinted it might be willing to cooperate with the
U.S. South Korean President Moon Jae-in said Sunday that North Korea may be open to talks.
As Newsy previously reported, the White House said it will see if North Korea's apparent
willingness to meet "represents the first steps along the path to denuclearization."

Because soon enough we were inseparable.
Who knew our friendship would be filled with laughter,
adventure and unforgettable memories.
They call us friends.
But we're more than that.
We're sisters.
And here's a look into our lives.

South Korea struggles to find ways to ease mounting trade pressure from U.S. - Duration: 15:52.
And for a more in-depth discussion on this issue, we're joined by Professor Yang Jun-sok,
from the Department of Economics at the Catholic University of Korea.
Welcome to the program and good to see you again.
Pleasure to be here.
Q1 The Bank of Korea held its key rate steady
at 1-point-5 percent... maintaining its wait and see stance.
What does this signify
for
the Korean economy?
Q2 There are concerns that rising inflation could
cause the Fed to raise interest rates more than three times this year.
What should Korea do?
Q3 In order to finance more job creation,...
the Moon administration is not ruling out the possibility of using a supplementary budget.
Do you think the timing is right?
Q4 After the Winter Olympics,... trade friction
with the U.S. seems inevitable as the U.S. plans to impose curbs on Korean steel products
after slapping bigger taxes on washers and solar panels in January.
Now Korea's trade minister is in the U.S.
What kind of discussions will take place?
Q5 There is speculation that the U.S. increasing
its trade pressure on South Korea is politically motivated... due to Trump's midterm elections
and the North Korean nuclear issue...
What are your thoughts on this?
Q6 There seems to be a principle that trade and
national security should be dealt with separately, but is that possible?
Q7 Building on the previous question,... there
are doubts over whether we should approach this matter purely from a "trade perspective."
Q8 11 member nations from the Trans-Pacific Partnership
will be signing a revised trade pact next month,... motivated by hopes that the U.S.
would return to the table.
What kind of changes do you foresee?
Q9 President Trump pulled
out of
the TPP last year and then said would reconsider joining again if the deal is more beneficial
to the U.S.
How do
you assess the situation?
Q10> Now shifting gears to the South Korean
unit of General Motors...
South Korea will begin its due diligence later this week
after the U.S. carmaker demanded financial support and shut down one of its car assembly
plants in South Korea.
The results of the review process will likely finish in April.
What outcome can we predict?
Q11 Seoul has several economic variables to consider
depending on its relations with Pyongyang, the U.S. and so on.
Can you tell us what
to
look
out for in
the near future?
Thank you
for your
insight today professor.
You're welcome.

How Can We Fix The U.S. When Money Corrupts Absolutely? - Duration: 3:58.
Our next question comes from Matthew Jacobson who asks, "The Republican Party and Democratic
Party are done and corrupted, how can we fix the U.S.?
How do change the economy so it actually works?
Because the path we are on isn't sustainable?"
The answer to that question, actually both of those questions, is the same.
We can't do anything about the corruption in the Republican part and the Democratic
party, or the economy, or fix the United States, until we get money out of politics.
Plain and simple, that's the answer.
Get rid of the Citizens United decision, get rid of the super PACs, get rid of these massive
fundraisers that both parties like to hold with their wealthy donors and hobnob with
them and they write massive checks.
Get rid of it all, and then we can have some real change in here.
The Democratic party, and this is a story I love to tell.
Prior to Citizens United the two groups that gave the most money to the Democratic part
were unions and trial lawyers.
Two groups that work on behalf of the American public against major corporations, unions
and trial lawyers.
After Citizens United, guess who took over as the number one donor for the Democratic
party?
Wall Street, the big banks, the hedge fund managers.
And what happened around that time too?
We started to see the Democratic mantra kind of change a little bit.
That, no, no we're not going to rein in the big banks as much, we'll do Dodd Frank but
we let the lobbyists water it down so much it's not really going to do anything.
When they pushed out, or when the money from the unions and the trial lawyers wasn't enough
to match the money coming from corporations like big banks, the priority shifted.
They started going in favor of the banks.
They started going in favor of the corporations.
That was only eight years ago, so the party in my opinion is not too far gone yet.
I'm not one of those people that's willing to just give up on the Democratic party.
I strongly believe we need very strong, very active third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh
parties in the United States to better represent the American public.
But me personally, I'm not done with the Democrats.
I want to change them.
I want to fix them.
I want to make it better.
I want to bring it back to the party of FDR.
I'm not willing to write them off yet.
Am I happy with them right now?
No, and nobody should be.
The establishment types, you know, the ... We know who they are basically, but no.
We've got to get back to people like Randy Bryce, working class folks.
We have to get the money out of politics.
We have to get a party that once again works for the American public, that works for the
consumers, that works for the workers.
We had that.
We had that not that long ago.
And that's the thing, it hasn't been that long, but if you want to fix the Democrats,
you want to fix the Republicans, you can't do that if we don't get the money out of politics.
I mean think about it this way, what would happen to the Republican party's stance on
gun control if you didn't have the NRA pumping $50 million into their party every election
cycle?
I know, they still would try to pander to their base on the issue, but at the end of
the day they'd know it wouldn't matter because those people aren't suddenly going to become
Democrats because the Democrats want even tighter gun control than Republicans could
possibly do.
But what it could do is it could get some common sense reforms put in place that we
desperately need as a country.

How Many Chinese Spies Are in the US? - Duration: 13:02.
On this episode of China Uncensored,
the head of the FBI has warned
that the CCP has spies
all over the United States—
including people who appear to be
ordinary students and employees.
Hi, welcome back to China Uncensored.
I'm your host Chris Chappell.
You know, some people call me paranoid.
At least that's what I imagine they're saying
behind my back.
But let me tell you,
you may laugh at this tinfoil hat now,
but I've heard from a very reliable source,
there are spies!
Spies everywhere!!!
Oh no, my source isn't the homeless guy
down on 10th avenue.
I'm talking about head of the FBI Christopher Wray.
"One of the things we're trying to do
is view the China threat as not just
a whole of government threat,
but a whole of society threat on their end."
Oh whoa, all Chinese people are a threat?
That sounds like something
my racist uncle Ted would say.
I mean seriously,
the head of the FBI is basically saying
Americans must band together
to resist the yellow menace?
I haven't heard anything that racist since...
the 1943 Batman movie.
"Known as Little Tokyo.
Since a wise government rounded up
all those shifty eyed Japs…"
Whoa, that was a dark night.
But back to FBI Director Christopher Wray.
He was speaking at
Senate Intelligence Committee hearing.
And China was a big concern.
"The biggest issue of our time...
is China and the risk they pose.
I'm not sure in the 240 some odd year history
of this nation we have ever faced
a competitor and potential advisory of this scale,
scope and capacity.
Wray and other leaders of US Intelligence agencies
like the NSA and CIA released this report,
detailing the biggest threats facing the United States.
And China is named dropped a lot.
Cyber espionage, intellectual property theft,
space weapons, drug warfare—
it's not looking good.
Also, the intelligence community
does not think you should buy
Chinese cell phones,
because they could be spying on you.
And when it comes to spying,
the NSA probably knows what they're talking about.
But it was Christopher Wray's comments
about Chinese students studying in the United States
that got some people's backs up.
"Use of non traditional collectors,
especially in the academic setting,
whether it's professors, scientists, students..
.it's across basically every discipline,
and I think the level of naivete
on the part of the academic sector
about this creates its own issues,
they're exploiting the very open
research and development environment
that we have, which we all revere,
but they're taking advantage of it."
The idea that all Chinese students are
potential spies for the Chinese Communist Party
is a bit shocking.
Especially to China's Foreign Ministry.
"I don't know where the United States'
sense of insecurity comes from."
Well, that sense of insecurity
probably comes from the fact that
the Chinese Communist Party has been
actively trying to influence
and infiltrate the United States.
The CCP has documented this
in its own strategic papers.
The way Christopher Wray explained it,
he said that it's not just official CCP agents
doing the infiltration and spy work.
It's "non-traditional intelligence collectors"—
like Chinese students at American universities,
and Chinese workers inside American companies
who are gathering small pieces of intelligence
on a large scale.
Christopher Wray's statement has upset
a lot of Chinese communities inside the US.
The organization United Chinese Americans said,
"painting all Chinese students
and indeed Chinese in America
with such a broad brush
as a national security threat
is paranoid, inflammatory,
un-American, and simply wrong."
The Organization of Chinese Americans called it,
"Dishonest and insulting."
And John C. Yang,
head of Asian Americans Advancing Justice,
told the Daily Beast,
"We cannot have every Chinese student or scientist
assumed guilty until proven innocent
of a national security threat."
So was the director of the FBI onto something,
or was he just being racist and paranoid?
For more on this,
I'm joined by China Uncensored's
senior Chinese person,
Shelley Zhang.
Shelley?
Thanks, Chris.
So Shelley,
was FBI director Christopher Wray
being very racist?
Or just a little bit racist? How about not racist?
But he said that all Chinese students
are a potential threat.
That's not what he said.
He said that the Chinese government
uses students and other academics as spies.
And that's not racist Chris,
it's just true.
You mean there really are
spies everywhere?
Where did I put that tinfoil hat?
Calm down.
We're not talking about James Bond, here.
Sure, the CCP uses professional spies.
But they also use part-time spies.
Part-time spies?
What, like they need some extra cash on the side?
Or they're pressured into it,
or told they're fulfilling their patriotic duty.
These aren't professional spies.
They're just ordinary students,
or employees,
or business owners who are in the US
for legitimate reasons.
The CCP just asks them to pass on information
every once in a while.
What kind of information?
Maybe you're a grad student
doing research in a lab.
Maybe you just take a few photos
of what you're working on
and send it in an email.
Are there a lot of these
unprofessional spies?
Well, it's hard to know.
But according to this article,
a Chinese diplomat who defected said last year
that Australia had about 500 professional spies,
and up to 700 of these part-time spies.
That might not sound like much,
but if the CCP has the same number in the US,
adjusted for population,
the US would have about 16,000 Chinese spies.
16,000 sounds like a lot of spies.
And I assume there could be even more here
because America is way more important than Australia.
Riiight...
But remember that there are more than
330,000 Chinese nationals studying in the US,
so it still would be a very small percentage.
So on a scale of one to infinity,
how worried should we be
about Chinese spies in the US?
Not that worried.
That's not the answer I was expecting.
Look, should we be aware of
what the CCP is doing?
Yes.
And it's important that the FBI is on it.
But most of us aren't in a position
to stop Chinese spies.
Hey, speak for yourself.
Ok, sure.
Look, I think the Asian American groups
were overreacting to what the FBI director said.
But they're also right in that we shouldn't start
another yellow peril red scare.
We can't suspect every Chinese person
of being a spy.
I was born in China.
Does that make me a spy?
I don't know.
Does it?
Are you serious?
Hey, you're the one who brought it up.
Ok, you got me.
The Communist Party secretly trained me
in espionage tactics until I left China
when I was three years old,
and since then I've been playing the long game.
First, I waited for YouTube to be invented.
Then I joined a YouTube channel
that exposes the Chinese regime.
Now I'm just waiting for the day
when I can take over the channel
and start broadcasting communist propaganda.
I can't believe you just said all that.
I'm not a spy, Chris.
Oh, I believe you.
You would make a terrible spy.
You just admitted everything!
Yes I did.
There is something that FBI Director Wray
talked about though,
that's even more important for Americans
to know about.
The CCP's influence activities.
How is that more important
than worrying about spies?
The Party puts a lot of effort into influencing
how the rest of the world sees China.
And they can do it in sneaky ways
that are hard to detect.
Like using the Confucius Institutes,
which the Chinese government sets up
in foreign schools and universities
to teach a version of Chinese culture
that's approved by the Communist Party.
I still think spying is a bigger issue.
Well, they're actually kind of related.
This is what Director Wray was talking about
when he said the FBI viewed
what the CCP is doing
as a "whole of society" threat.
Whether it's spying or propaganda,
the CCP will use all of Chinese society
to get what they want.
Here's another example.
The Chinese Students and Scholars Associations—
or CSSAs.
These groups are set up in universities
across the United States.
On the surface,
they exist to support Chinese exchange students,
organize fun group activities,
and so on.
But the CSSAs can also be
connected to the Chinese government
and help spread the Party line on China issues.
According to a defector
from China's Ministry of State Security,
the CCP views CSSAs as "information collection"
and propaganda organizations.
So they're part-time spying on us?
No.
Well, maybe some people are.
We don't know.
But we do know that CSSAs definitely help
the CCP push certain views.
Like last year when the Dalai Lama
came to speak at UC San Diego,
the CSSA there kicked up a fuss...
after coordinating with the Chinese Consulate in LA.
And this isn't something new.
In 2007,
a human rights lawyer
came to Columbia University
to give a speech about
forced organ harvesting in China.
The CSSA organized Chinese students
to protest that, too.
On the Columbia University CSSA's website,
they boasted that their constitution was reviewed
by the local Chinese consulate,
and their advisory board consisted of two members...
also from the Chinese consulate.
Wait a minute, these CSSAs
are directly working with the Chinese government?
Some of them are.
This Foreign Policy article showed that
the Georgetown CSSA gets half of its annual
operating budget from the Chinese Embassy.
People have been digging up other links as well.
Here's a video from the George Washington University CSSA
saying that they are directed by the Chinese Embassy,
found by the same reporter.
The University of Tennessee CSSA
says they get funding from the Embassy.
They also require members
to believe in the one China policy.
The Southwestern CSSA,
which is an umbrella organization that includes
CSSAs from 26 US universities,
requires any candidates running for office
to be approved by the Chinese Consulate in LA.
I could go on.
Please don't.
A lot of those statements you showed
are in Chinese.
Yeah, they don't always translate them to English.
Are they trying to hide their links to the CCP
by using a language spoken by 1.3 billion people?
These people would make terrible spies.
Well, remember, a lot of the spying going on here
is actually the CCP using Chinese students
to spy on each other.
Just to make sure that they're
not doing anything out of line.
Here's a case of a Chinese student activist
who recorded a call from the Chinese police
asking him to spy on fellow activists.
Chinese students in Australia
have found things they said in class
were reported back to the Chinese police
by other students.
Think about it.
Having something you say
in a college class outside China
reported to Chinese authorities.
That's awful.
I wouldn't want to be held responsible
for anything I said in college.
Ok, so you've convinced me that this is
an issue that's at least as important as spying.
Is there anything we can do about this?
Well, obviously we should all expose
what the CCP is doing.
But besides that,
I think the most important thing we can do
is to separate the CCP
from ordinary Chinese people.
We need to understand that the Communist Party
has a very specific agenda
that they use Chinese people for.
But we shouldn't blame all Chinese people
for what the CCP is doing.
But that's not the way
a lot of Chinese people see it.
Well, that's true.
The CCP has done a great job
of making Chinese people think
that the Communist Party is the same thing
as the country, and the people.
If we do the same thing,
we're helping them.
Look, imagine being a Chinese student
here in the US.
It's a completely different language and culture.
You can be pretty isolated
from mainstream American society.
And you're constantly told,
by Chinese media,
by the Chinese education system,
by your friends,
that America just wants to keep China down—
and therefore keep you down.
If people start calling you a Chinese spy,
doesn't that just make you believe it's true?
So what are you saying?
I'm saying:
Don't vilify Chinese people.
Treat them like individuals.
Isn't that part of what
makes America great?
So you're saying we should...
make America great again?
Why do I even bother?
Thanks Shelley.
So what do you think?

Privatizing US Foreign Policy - Duration: 12:00.
It's the Real News Network.
I'm Sharmini Peries coming to you from Baltimore.
Right wing Billionaire, Sheldon Adelson, has offered to pay for a new US embassy in Jerusalem.
The Trump administration is planning to open the new building in Jerusalem in May.
It is not yet clear whether this is legal for a private donor to fund a US embassy.
Lawyers at the State Department are investigating the question.
According to the Associated Press, Adelson is a notorious conservative oligarch who has
bankrolled Israel's hardline right wing prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, and a right
wing pro-Israel groups in the US.
And some would say Adelson has also barred some important decisions of the Trump administration.
You could see Adelson prominently seated at the Trump inauguration last January.
The Trump administration's decision to move the embassy led to a global outrage.
The international community condemned the US at the United Nations for opposing international
law.
East Jerusalem has been illegally occupied by Israel for several decades now.
And according to international law, East Jerusalem was supposed to be the site of an independent
future Palestinian state.
Trump's decision to move the US embassy there, calls into question the US government's commitment
to the so called "two state solution" in Israel, Palestine.
Joining us now to discuss this is Phyllis Bennis.
Phyllis is director of the New Internationalism Project at the Institute for Policy Studies.
All right.
Phyllis, tell us about why the US is speeding up this move?
I think the significance is less about the pace, than about how they're planning to go
about it.
This is a move that's now designed to undercut the fear that many have raised about the enormous
cost of building a new embassy in Jerusalem.
Putting aside political issues, legal issues, financial issues and a whole host of other
questions.
Just the questions of the cost of it will be somewhere over a billion dollars.
And for a president who has claimed to resent the spending of large amounts of money for
new embassies overseas, he had to figure out, "How are we going to manage this?"
That's what led to this extraordinary new development, which is the offer from Sheldon
Adelson, the Las Vegas casino mogul, as he's always identified, a great supporter of Trump,
great supporter of Netanyahu, the owner of the largest daily newspaper in Israel, who
volunteered to essentially buy the embassy.
And what that says about the privatization of US foreign policy.
Foreign policy in the interest of private interests.
In this case, the interests of Jewish and Christian Zionists in the United States, as
well as in the interests of the right wing of the Israeli State, is not a surprising
thing, but nonetheless a shocking reality to consider, that we would be selling an embassy.
A former State Department official, who used to be in charge of things, like arranging
to purchase land to build embassies and that sort of thing, said she had never heard of
such a thing and wondered, Does this mean we'll be obligated to name it after him?
It will be the Sheldon Adelson Memorial Embassy.
It's a shocking reality.
And Phyllis, how significant is this?
That now the Trump administration is considering having private individuals fund government
buildings, and embassies and so forth.
It's very significant.
It's significant, certainly, at the symbolic level.
What this says about the willingness of the Trump administration, that has no strategic
plan for actual foreign policy, to make these reckless policy decisions solely in the interests
of wealthy donors and their own constituencies.
In this case, Sheldon Adelson, a leading donor to the Republican Party, a leading donor to
the right wing in Israel, and an active supporter, a Jewish Zionist, an active supporter of Israeli
settlements, Israeli apartheid and the Christian Zionist movement that is very much tied to
Adelson interests.
This is of course, Sharmini, not the first time that we've seen issues of privatization
of policy.
We can look back a little more than 20 years, where you had an example that was seen at
the time as a great gift, as a philanthropic gift.
That was when Ted Turner announced, sort of out of the blue, that he was going to donate
a billion dollars to the United Nations.
This was in 1997.
When the United States was in Arrears at the UN, was refusing to pay its dues at the UN.
And Ted Turner, who was actually a great supporter of the UN, a supporter of multilateralism,
came in and said, "Look, I have a lot of money.
I'm going to spend it at the UN.
I'm going to give it to the UN to make good on this US debt."
The problem was several fold.
There were some particular problems.
He didn't actually give a billion dollars.
He gave a hundred million dollars over what turned out to be closer to 15 years than 10.
But the real problem wasn't that he divided it up over the years.
The real problem was he didn't give money to the United Nations.
He gave money to a private foundation, that he created, called the UN Foundation, that
he ran.
He chose the board of directors.
And that board made the decisions about which UN agency would get the money.
So, any UN agency could apply to the foundation for funding.
And this is, remember, at a time when the UN is desperate for funds, whether it was
for UNICEF, or UNDP, for all of its various agencies.
But now you have this private group of citizens of the, mainly of the United States, a few
internationals, hand-picked by Ted Turner, accountable to no one, making the decisions
over whether clean water in Chad is more important, or girls education in Bangladesh is more important.
You know, why should a bunch of individuals get to make decisions like that, that affect
whole populations, that affect the whole world.
It was completely disastrous in its impact in terms of seeing somehow the legitimacy
of privatizing foreign policy for the whole United Nations.
Now, we're seeing this in a much more blatant way, where it's clearly designed.
There's no illusions here.
This is very openly designed to placate a wealthy right wing Zionist, a wealthy right
wing supporter of the most right wing sectors of the Israeli state, the most right wing
sectors of the Republican Party.
And he wants it, so he gets it.
There is, of course, additional problems.
The small problems, like international law that recognizes that Jerusalem is occupied
territory, small item.
A small item, like what it says to the Palestinians.
That the new temporary annex, the temporary embassy in Jerusalem before the big one, the
Adelson Embassy, is built, will be announced and they will move in, in just a couple of
months on when?
May 15th of this year, which will be the 70th year since the Nakba, like the Palestinians
call, "The Nakba."
The catastrophe that led to the expulsion and dispossession of over 750,000 Palestinians
from their land.
Land to which they've never to this day been allowed to return.
That's the day that the Israelis celebrate as Independence Day and that's the day that
the US will officially open a small, temporary embassy in Jerusalem, which will make all
the political points, all the symbolic points before they even begin to deal with is it
even legal for Sheldon Adelson to buy himself an embassy?
Phyllis, can you speak to the legal basis, or lack thereof, of this move in terms of
the US embassy moving to Jerusalem and a private entity paying for this?
Well, those are two different questions.
In terms of US law, there's no US law that would prohibit a US embassy from being anywhere.
There is international law.
But as we know, this administration in particular, and earlier administrations as well, have
not been too worried about international law.
There was a US law passed in 1995, signed by President Clinton, that mandated the move
of the embassy to Jerusalem.
It was widely understood to be purely symbolic for members of congress who wanted to placate
their own pro Israel donors.
That's what it was all about.
It was talked about very openly at the time.
What happened next was that they all realized that it would be disastrous in terms of actual
policy to actually do that.
So, they inserted in the law, an exception that says, "Every six months, the President,
if she or he decides, can issue a waiver that says, national security interests mandate
that we not implement this yet.
We're going to put it aside.
And every president, every six months since 1995 has done that, until Donald Trump this
last time.
He issued the waiver, but said, "The waiver this time is only about timing and we're going
to go ahead and do it."
So, there's no reason that this has to be done in terms of US law.
And under international law, of course, it's illegal altogether.
Now there is a law, there's a regulation in the State Department that has a formal process
for accepting gifts.
Part of the language of that, and that includes real estate.
It includes very rigorous reviews.
It's designed to make sure that, and I quote here, "That the gift would not give the appearance
of a conflict of interest."
So, that's an official regulation.
Now, this isn't an appearance of a conflict of interest.
This is a straight up open, acknowledged conflict of interest.
So, this stands in complete violation of at least that regulation of the State Department.
The problem is, like with international law, State Department regulations are only useful
if somebody's prepared to defend them.
Is there anyone in congress who's prepared to defend it?
Is there a lawsuit that can be brought?
Whose behalf would it be brought on?
These are all questions that remain.
Right now we're looking at a situation where the State Department has not issued a final
decision whether or not they believe it to be legal to accept money under these terms,
that would essentially be the Sheldon Adelson Embassy.
Whether or not it's officially named for him, it's understood to be built in his interests
with his money.
So, what else are we going to call it?
We don't know if the State Department will acknowledge that it's legal, or claim that
it's legal when it's clearly not.
And then the question will be, if they try to do that, who in congress, who in the judiciary,
who else might stand up and say, "This is not legal.
Aside from being politically dangerous, morally bankrupt and a whole host of other things.
It's also not legal."
All right.
Phyllis.
I thank you so much for joining us today, and I look forward to having you back because
I think this issue isn't going away any time soon.
I look forward to it.
Thanks, Sharmini.
And thank you for joining us here on The Real News Network.

Every Anti-American Olympian Who Trashed Trump Just Got Horrible News Right Before Returning To US - Duration: 6:11.
Every Anti-American Olympian Who Trashed Trump Just Got Horrible News Right Before Returning
To US It seems all that worrying about being invited
to the White House and of making a public spectacle of their hatred for President Donald
Trump and Vice President Mike Pence has not worked out so well for the US Olympic team.
This year American athletes won just 23 medals in Pyeongchang at the 2018 Winter Games.
The U.S. Olympic Committee states this is far below the committee's minimum expectations.
This Olympics has seen the lowest amount of medals since the U.S. won just 13 medals at
the 1998 Winter Games in Nagano, Japan.
Now a top U.S. Olympic Committee official is promising to re-evaluate the organization's
winter sports program after such an abysmal showing where the U.S. brought home just nine
gold medals, eight silver medals, and six bronze medals.
That is only 7.5% of the total medals available to be won for those competing.
This has left little of interest to watch many nights on TV over that of previous Olympics
causing a ratings slump for NBC.
It seems Vice President Mike Pence and his wife Karen did little to help the ratings
slump either with only one brief interview where Pence said little and his wife Karen
said nothing at all after attending the Opening Ceremony.
Many Americans cannot blame Pence as without even opening his mouth, he managed to become
a target for openly gay athletes Gus Kenworthy and Adam Rippon.
While U.S. skier and 2010 Olympic gold medalist Lindsay Vonn personally attacked President
Trump directly.
According to Fox News – The Associated Press, citing an internal USOC document, reported
that the organization had set a target of 37 medals in Pyeongchang, with a minimum expectation
of 25.
Winning 37 medals would have matched the then-record number won by the U.S. in Vancouver in 2010.
The USOC has stated that they intend to look into the direct effects of the many very political
and highly charged commentary that was highly visible during this year's Winter Games
as well.
Many believe this year's disappointing performance at the 2018 Winter Games was a direct reflection
of nasty attitudes, anti-Americanism, negative political overtones, and an entitlement mentality
that was far too prevalent this year.
Pyeongchang also came at a difficult time for USOC officials, who have faced sexual
abuse scandals in gymnastics and swimming back home.
But dealing with those issues might ultimately affect performance too.
Add to that a significant amount of politicization and mouth running from U.S. athletes and it
has not been a banner year by any stretch.
Historically, USOC leaders have acted as a distant overseer to the national governing
bodies that run each specific sport.
Now, they will probably step in and exert tighter control.
The U.S. Olympic Committee's chief of sports performance, Alan Ashley did not mince words
when he spoke of the unsettling and downright disappointing showing put forth by the U.S.
team at the USOC's closing news conference on Sunday.
He acknowledged there was room for significant improvement amongst the U.S. Olympic team,
stating – "We're going to take a hard look at what occurred here.
Everything we're responsible for, and everything that is basically under my responsibility,
is focused on how to help our top athletes achieve success.
I'm accountable for that, and I'm not going to shy away from that."
At the press conference, Ashley was joined by four U.S. medalists, as well as Lindsay
Vonn though she did not medal this year, placing 6th instead.
Just a few days prior to the press conference Vonn gave an impassioned plea to not judge
everything in accordance with the number of medals collected for the U.S. Vonn stated
– "To quantify it in how many medals you have is not appropriate and doesn't respect
the athletes and what they've put in to be in these games."However, Ashley promised
to break it down when he returns to the United States to discover what went wrong and how
to fix it.
He hopes to use the information to improve U.S. performance in time for the next Winter
Games.
He did also offer encouragement stating he derived hope from the 35 athletes who finished
fourth through sixth over the two-plus weeks in South Korea.
He stated – "It's not as though we were in these situations where you're saying,
'Oh, we're going to do this great achievement,' and then we were 20th, 40th, 70th, whatever.
I want to help our athletes achieve everything they're capable of.
We come here to compete.
Everyone can do predictions.
And if we just live with predictions, then I guess we don't need to go to the Olympics."
Ashley states he intends to analyze everything up to and including what the USOC might hope
to emulate from watching other countries that were far more successful at this year's
Olympic Winter Games.
The U.S. athletes may learn much from countries like Norway that closed with a whopping 39
medals setting a new Winter Olympics record.
Their 39 medals broke the record set by the U.S. eight years ago.
Much could also be learned from countries such as Germany which took home 31 medals
or even Canada.
Canada launched its "Own the Podium" program just prior to the Vancouver Games, had 29,
showing a significant improvement as well.
Every single one of those countries also had help with funding from their government, Ashley
noted.
The USOC is privately funded.
Currently, the USOC spends more than $60 million during any given Olympic cycle in its effort
to support winter athletes and their sports organizations.
Since Ashley took over the organization, he has led the organization in placing more emphasis
on funneling money towards sports that have a higher potential to medal as opposed to
developing pipelines for any less successful sport to grow.

People FURIOUS At What US Green Beret Olympian Did In Picture After Losing Competition - Duration: 5:36.
People FURIOUS At What US Green Beret Olympian Did In Picture After Losing Competition
The 2018 Winter Olympics is about to come to a close after the most disastrous games
in modern history for America, if not of all time.
The honorable event for any hardworking, dedicated, and committed athlete to be a part of was
used by many members of Team USA as a very public stage to denounce the very country
they're there to represent by repeatedly trashing our president and vice president.
Just like the NFL recently experienced, this resulted in devastating ratings from overwhelming
loss of American interest for athletes who refuse to keep politics out of sports.
Among the many athletes to compete in this Olympics for Team USA, was Green Beret Nathan
Weber.
It wasn't until now, at the end of the games that America heard his name or even what he
was doing in PyeongChang.
Weber was there to compete in bobsledding, which he had trained for during the time he
was deployed to Afghanistan at an elite special forces camp.
Using what he had available to him and every second of his free time, Weber worked toward
his goal of a gold medal in the winter Olympics, through his own self-training.
Ultimately, he didn't earn a gold, or even a silver or a bronze medal.
He came in at the very disappointing 21st place, way below his expectations.
Ater realizing that all of his hard work for this competition he had been personally training
for while serving America didn't end remotely close to what he thought, he posed for a picture
that left a lot of Americans completely disgusted with what he did in it.
The gross disrespect for our president has been evident in the Olympics since before
they began when US downhill skier Lindsey Vonn preempted her appearance at the games
with slander campaign against Trump for every interview she was featured in.
This only got worse once the games began with a number of other athletes joining her on
her crusade against our administration.
Vice President Mike Pence received a disgusting reception when he arrived at the Olympics
which was also expected for First Daughter Ivanka Trump's Olympic trip for the final
competitions and closing ceremonies.
Shortly after landing she heard about Weber and wanted to personally meet him.
Ivanka got that opportunity as did Weber to get a picture with her, including his two
very young daughters in the shot for a specific reason.
The first daughter invited Weber's little girls to sit with her and watch the games.
According to their Olympian father, Ivanka treated his kids with genuine compassion,
as if they were her own, giving them incredible individualized attention.
In his words, "my daughters were like best friends today [with Ivanka].
It was a truly special experience for them."
However, the proud 30-year-old father didn't share details of his kids' incredible experience
with her until after he was ruthlessly attacked by anti-Trump trolls online.
Weber initially shared his picture of himself and his girls with Ivanka after White House
Press Secretary Sarah Sanders had posted it.
In sharing it, Weber, originally from Colorado, shared his own short sentiment, making a great
point: "Regardless of your politics, you have to admit that it's pretty cool when
@IvankaTrump invites your kids to watch the #Olympics with her.
It was an amazing experience for them.
#teamusa," he wrote.
This was just a start of the onslaught of attack that persisted, proving it's not
the Trumps who are a problem in this country, it's his detractors who refuse to accept
him as our president and feel justified in childish bullying that often turns violent.
Weber wasn't going to let their insults and divisive remarks break his stride and
beat them at their own game with his response to the torrent of trolls. That's how real
hero reacts when met with something he doesn't agree with.
He pointed out the truth that the left refuses to acknowledge about her and even her family,
that they are thoughtful and personable and most of all, have a deep respect for our military
heroes, thinking of thoughtful ways to thank them.
Furthermore, it's almost comical that these internet lunatics with too much time on their
hands and hate in their hearts would think that they could diminish a Green Beret.
Weber trained for the Olympics under the most difficult and trying circumstances, using
military ATVs on site to push backwards across the desert to prepare for the chance to compete
for America in bobsledding, Fox News reported. When I'm deployed I don't have those facilities,
the equipment, and the track and everything so I kind of had to make due," Weber told
Fox News.
"But I think being a Green Beret and being Special Forces kind of gave me the right mindset
to go out and make that happen.
That is kind of what we do as Green Berets — we don't necessarily always have the
right tools or equipment but we make things happen."
Nathan Weber understands that this is America, and people can say and do what they want.
He has fought for those rights.
However, Weber never backed down to the liberal haters.
He thought that having Ivanka sit with his daughters was an honor, he respects that she
is the daughter of his Commander-in-Chief.
It is alarming that the left will attack an Olympian and service member for loving his
country and respecting his President while praising disrespectful athletes who perpetuate
hate and divisiveness.
