Ankerberg: Richard Dawkins and other evolutionary biologists are still confidently proclaiming

that it's possible to build a Cambrian animal by natural selection and random mutation in

small incremental steps.

But what are some of the problems that you see with this evolutionary view?

Dr. Stephen Meyer: Well, actually many of the leading Cambrian paleontologists are now

disputing that view.

There's a paleontologist at the Smithsonian named Douglas Erwin who has written a book

with James Valentine from the University of California Berkeley.

And they take what they call a non-uniformitarian evolutionary view, which just in plain English

means that whatever caused the Cambrian animals to emerge, it's unlike anything, any biological

process we see at work today, including the mutation natural selection process.

So, there's a lot of scientists who are doubting the creative power of the mutation

selection mechanisms.

One of the reasons for that is that natural selection can only select for a functional

advantage, for an advantageous change in a protein or a gene at the smallest level.

And yet, we know that the odds of generating such a new gene or protein by random mutations

alone is extremely small.

And it's small even when we take into account the number of opportunities there are for

such an event to occur, given the known history of life on earth.

So, the idea that mutation and selection have this amazing creative power is really increasingly

being questioned.

It does a great job of explaining small minor variations in existing protein folds and structures,

but if you need enough changes to build what's called a new protein structure, a new protein

fold, too many things have to go right before there's any selectable advantage.

There is no gradual series of steps up the backside of the mountain.

It's basically a big-jump proposition where you need many coordinated changes to occur

before there's any selectable advantage.

And the number of coordinated changes that are required are so vastly improbable that

it's far more likely, as we were saying in the last program, that such a random search

will fail, than it is that such a mechanism will succeed.

So the really important, I would say, mathematical reasons to doubt the creative power of the

mutation selection mechanism with respect to the problem of building even one gene or

protein, let alone a whole new Cambrian animal which would require hundreds and thousands

of new genes and proteins.

As Your Skill And Income Level Increases, The Number Of Hours You Work Will Go Down - Duration: 12:01.

Hey, this is Joe Crump.

This is the last video in my series of structuring zero down deals and all the example deals

that I gave you.

Hopefully, you can use that information to go out there and start making offers right

away on properties.

The beauty of this situation is you don't need credit.

You don't need cash down.

You just need the ability to understand how these deals work, give people their options,

show them the different ways that they can do this and let them choose what's best for

them.

You can create a long term sustainable business if you do the best you can for people, if

you treat them like family, if you treat them like someone you love.

If you do that then it makes your life a lot more fun, it makes your businesses sustainable

and it makes it easy to sleep at night plus you put a lot of money in your bank account

because people trust you and they will work with you to make this stuff happen.

As long as you speak honorably to people and you treat them well, let them make the choice

about what makes the most sense for them, not necessarily what's going to make you the

most money, and I think you'll find out that eventually you are making the most money because

you're getting repeat business and you're going to get people to come back to you over

and over again, or refer their friends to you.

And it makes your life a lot more fun that way.

That's how I request that you use this information that I'm teaching you.

I also want to talk a little bit about my mentor program and teaching.

I would like to apply for the position as your mentor and kind of show you the ropes

as we go along.

I've been doing this for a long time, since 1986, is when I started investing.

I've been a realtor, an agent, I have a broker's license.

But my love is investing.

The stuff that I've been teaching is investing.

I have about 120 students that come through my mentor program every year.

So about 60, since it's a six-month program, about 60 people at any particular time, which

is about all I can handle.

Anywhere from 60 or 70.

What we do is, every two weeks we have a conference call and I get on the phone and there's usually

between 15 and 20 people on those calls on average, and all we do on those calls is me

answering questions.

We also do role play every once in a while.

Learning how to talk to people as I've mentioned in these videos is maybe the most important

part.

So sometimes we do role play and I'll listen to you and how you're talking and I'll show

you what you can say and help you learn this and get better and where to put your focus

and where to put your energy.

Then once you start learning how to put together deals, teach you how to automate this process,

how to systematize it, how to find people to help you do this work so you can outsource

it for very little money so you can get to the point where you're putting in far less

hours and making far more money.

Because as you get better at this, as your skill level goes up, your income also goes

up and your hours into this business go down.

It can be dramatic.

You can be working four or five hours a week and making what you're making in a 40-hour

job right now and you can usually do that within the first year in this business.

Now, the mentor program's expensive.

It's a $10,000 program.

And there are some discounts.

You can get in for as little as $2,000.

But I make no bones about it.

It's expensive.

It's like going to college for a semester.

It's not four years of college, but it is like going for a semester.

It can be impossible for some people.

Just because you can't afford it doesn't mean that you can't learn this.

I still have other training stuff.

I've got 500 videos on my blog here that have a lot of good information that can help you

get started and maybe you can make some money and then I can help you get going after you've

made some money and you can get into the program.

I think it's probably worth your time and worth your effort to have somebody who's looking

over your shoulder to help you with this process.

It's always easier and always faster if you've got somebody doing it with you.

If I wanted to become a diesel mechanic, and I wanted to learn how to fix an engine, I

could get in there, I'd get in a book, and I could learn how to do it, and I could read

the book and I could probably figure it out.

But if I had a master mechanic sitting next to me saying hey, take that hose and turn

that, and use this wrench to get this, and do this over here.

I don't know anything about engines, diesel engines.

But if I did, then I'd be able to listen to him and he could tell me how to do it.

I'd learn far quicker by having somebody looking over my shoulder doing that with me.

And I could do that for you and help you through that process.

Now, the only time you'll actually get to talk to me is on these conference calls and

at my buying events.

I do these buying events.

They're two-day events, three times a year.

The next one, we do them all scattered out throughout the year, and you'd be welcome

to come to those.

Those are not extra charge.

Used to charge $10,000 extra for those.

I don't do that anymore.

I found that anybody who was in my mentor program needed these buying events to help

kind of kick them into gear.

And the people at the buying events needed the mentoring program to help follow up after

what they learned at the buying event.

So I combined them into the same program.

You can also, when you're in this program, you can email me your questions.

I'm pretty good about getting back with people within twenty-four business hours.

I don't work on holidays.

I don't work on weekends.

Every once in a while I have to go out of town working on other projects that I'm doing

because I have other businesses that I do.

But most of the time I get back with you in a very efficient time period.

I answer your questions and make sure you have what you need.

There'll never be a time in this program where you won't know what you're supposed to be

working on.

You'll always know.

You can also bring a friend or a family member or a partner or a spouse for no extra charge.

They can share your materials with you, they can also download the materials that you're

downloading and you can learn the stuff together, they can come on the conference calls, they

can come to the buying event -- no extra charge.

There are tax deductions for this program.

It's a business expense.

And you can deduct it from your taxes in your real estate business as you go along.

Talk to a CPA.

I'm not a licensed CPA so this is just the way I understand it, and it may be different

for some people.

There are a lot of positive benefits to this process and there's lots of ways that you

can make a business that'll serve you for the rest of your life.

You want to learn how to make money first.

Most of the people that come to this program, they just want to get some income.

They'd like to quit their jobs.

Most of the people are doing it while they're working full time jobs.

They have to commit to me that they're going to put in eight to ten hours a week at this,

so you have to have at least that amount of time during, and those eight to ten hours

have to be during the hours between eight in the morning and nine at night.

It doesn't matter what day they are, but it can't be in the middle of the night to put

in those eight to ten hours because you're going to be talking to sellers.

You're going to be spending most of your time talking to sellers.

I guarantee that this program will make you money.

If it doesn't, I'll give you your money back.

But I only guarantee it if you do the work.

I can tell you right off the bat that out of all the people that come through my program

about 30% of the people that come through it make money.

But not that, that 70% doesn't get their money back because they didn't make money.

They didn't do the work.

If they do the work, 100% of those people make money.

I've never had anybody in this program that did the work that didn't make the money.

Even though 30% is actually all that actually make the money, that's because those are the

people that are doing the work.

Now, I'm told that on average programs like this only 5% of the people that do programs

like this make money.

So I guess off the bat, I'm already 600% better than most places.

But I'd like to be higher, and that's why I have these conversations with people so

that they know that they have to put in this work, they have to get on the phone and they

have to make calls and they have to make offers.

If you don't learn how to do that, you're not going to be good at this.

You're not going to have to do this forever.

You're going to be able to outsource it eventually, but you can't outsource something that you

can't teach to somebody.

So you have to learn that process and get good at it yourself so that the people you

teach will have confidence and be able to do it for you.

You can get admin people to work for you for hourly pay.

You can get people to help you find your buyers for your properties for hourly pay.

You can outsource almost all of this and automate so much of this stuff.

And then you can also, I'll show you how to even get rid of a bunch of a stuff that you

don't need.

But at the beginning you want to do some of these things.

You want to learn how to do this yourself and get good at it yourself.

That just takes time and it takes practice.

It's not going to happen overnight.

It can happen, within three or four months you can start making money.

Within a year you could probably quit your job.

What I tell people as far as quitting their job, you want to have three months in a row

of consistent income, enough to pay your bills.

If you have that three months in a row, you can probably do that for the rest of your

life.

Three months is a pretty good, sometimes people will make money and then there'll be two months

they don't make any money, and then they make some money, and there'll be a month off, and

then they'll make some money.

Well, you want to have three months in a row where you're making money so that you can

feel confident that you can leave your job and you can move on to something else.

Obviously if you can put more time into this and you quit your job sooner, you might be

able to make money a little bit faster, but there's no guarantee on that.

So, sometimes it makes sense to take the safe route and do it that way and sometimes it

makes your spouse a little bit more comfortable with you doing it that way as well.

All right.

Well, I hope that helps.

For more information about my mentor program, you can go to www.zerodowninvesting.com or

you can go to www.joecrump.com/partner.

Those links will be at the end of this of video.

Also, you might want to look at the Automarketer.

If you can't afford the mentor program, look at the Automarketer.

It's $199 a month.

You're going to need $20 or $30 a month for your phone minutes, but it's a way to automate

the process.

It's a training program.

Of course, I'm not involved in that program.

You can't contact me and you can't ask me questions.

My mentor program is the only program is the only program that I'm included in personally.

But it's a good training program and I've, you know, I created all the materials.

It is my system.

It's the same system that I teach my mentor students.

So maybe it makes sense for you to get going with something like that and get started.

Anyway, if you don't even have money for that, you can also got to www.Amazon.com.

I've got books there for $3.00 each that have lots of good information and I give you enough

information you need to get started as well.

So, depending on the way you learn and how much work you'll put into it and whether or

not you'll put the effort in and whether you have the guts to follow through with that

process, that's going to determine whether you're successful or not.

I've seen this business work in every area in the country.

I've seen it happen all over the world in every free nation around the world.

I've been doing this, teaching this stuff for a long time, so I've had experience with

a lot of students in a lot of different areas.

I've had people in Israel and the Emirates.

I've had people in the UK and Europe and Australia and Canada.

In South America and Central America.

So, this is a very doable plan for those people and for you as well.

I hope that helps.

I'd love to work with you if you're interested.

If you are, give me a call and we'll put it all together.

Thanks a lot.

Good luck.

I'll have more videos coming up in the future.

Take care.

3 Things to Watch as Trump Hits 100 Days - Duration: 3:51.

I'm John Bennett Roll Call's White House

correspondent. Later this week, President

Trump will hit a milestone in his

presidency, just like all new presidents

do. He will pass his hundredth day in

office. This is something of a Washington

and media creation, the idea of a

honeymoon period for a new president.

The hundredth day has now become kind of an

opportunity for the media, for Congress

and for those who watch the White House

closely to kind of issue a report card

on how the president's doing. And we

wanted to take an opportunity today to

kind of give you three things to look

for as the president nears this milestone.

Number one: can Congress hand

this president his first signature

legislative victory? They'll have a

chance this week even though it's

debatable about whether one of the items,

a funding bill for the rest of

fiscal year 2017, which would

avert a government shutdown on Friday

night, some people say that would not

necessarily be a victory if they get

something to the President's desk and he

signs it before funding runs out. Some

people some experts on both sides but

from both parties say that is that would

merely be Congress and the president

doing what they're both supposed to do.

The other thing is the possibility that

the House would hand him a small victory

but a victory nonetheless by passing, on

the second try, a bill to repeal and

replace President Obama's 2010

health care law. The White House late

last week posturing really really hard

that they don't necessarily want it this

week, they don't need it before the

hundredth day, they want to get it right,

they want to get the votes and they want

to get something the Senate can then

take, mold and sent back to the House.

Keep an eye on that. Number 2: what will

the White House sales pitch be this

week on the hundred days accomplishments?

Last week in a speech in Wisconsin the

president said no administration in the

history of the United States has

had such a successful first hundred days.

No administration has accomplished more

in the first 90 days, that includes on

military, on the border, on trade on

regulation, on law enforcement.

His critics, especially Democratic lawmakers,

beg to differ. What will the president

and his team trot out? We know they're

going to talk about the Congressional

Review Act, they've undone you know 13

major Obama-era regulations. They're

going to talk about the strike in Syria and

they are going to and very

understandably talk about seating a

Supreme Court justice, which is a very

big deal for any president at any point

in his presidency and doing it in the

first hundred days, the White House will

have a point on this, is a big accomplishment.

Number 3: as always

keep an eye on the president's Twitter

account but especially during a week

like this week when he will be in full

sales mode. He'll also, as he was on Friday,

likely at times be defensive about this

hundred days report card. He tweeted that

the very notion of this 100 days and

judging a president is ridiculous.

He lashed out at the media Friday. I would

expect more of that this week but expect

the president to aggressively use

Twitter which is still his favorite way

to communicate with his supporters to

make that sales pitch that he has been

successful. So look for not only a White

House PR blitz but also I would expect a

Donald Trump Twitter blitz.

10 Real People with Superpowers - Duration: 5:26.

Brainy Dose Presents:

10 Real People with Superpowers

Believe it or not, there are people walking among us who possess real-life superpowers.

These individuals, in most cases, are born with a rare genetic mutation, which allows

them to do things that should NOT be possible!

The following superhumans have some amazing abilities, and here are their superpowers:

Number One: The Brain Man

Daniel Tammet has Savant Syndrome, an extremely rare form of Asperger's that gives him almost

unimaginable mental powers.

He sees numbers as shapes, colours and textures, and can perform incredibly complicated math

equations all in his head.

Daniel remembers pi to over twenty-two-thousand digits.

He can also learn to speak a language fluently from scratch in just one week.

Number Two: The Human Anvil

Gino Martino is a professional wrestler and entertainer, with a superhuman skull.

Gino has had blocks of concrete broken over his head with a jackhammer.

He even had a bowling ball dropped on him from 15 feet high while holding a brick tile

on top of his head!

According to doctors, Gino's skull is 2.3 times thicker than the average human skull.

Number Three: The Iceman

Wim Hof has the power to withstand below freezing temperatures.

He achieves this remarkable feat through meditation by turning his "inner thermostat" up.

Wim ran marathons barefoot in snow, has been buried in ice, and holds the world record

for the longest time submerged in an ice bath.

Wim has also climbed the top of Mount Kilimanjaro, in a pair of shorts!

Number Four: The Living Camera

Stephen Wiltshire has the amazing ability to look at a subject just once, and create

a drawing of the subject in full detail and accuracy.

Stephen has drawn several panoramic pictures of world famous cities relying only on his

unique memory.

His largest single piece of work to date is a 10-meter-drawing of Tokyo which took him

8 days to complete.

Number Five: The Rubber Man

Jaspreet Singh Kalra is a young contortionist with an extremely flexible body.

He was inspired by Daniel Browning Smith - an American contortionist.

Jaspreet is capable of rotating his head 180° backwards and he can dislocate both of his

shoulders.

He can rotate his torso 180° backwards, and has an advanced front and back bending range.

Number Six: The Ultra-Marathon Man

Dean Karnazes is able to run at high speed all day long without getting worn out!

That's because he doesn't experience muscle cramps, even when his runs exceed 100 miles.

Dean's amazing feats include running on a treadmill for 80 hours non-stop, and running

50 marathons in 50 states in 50 consecutive days.

Scientists concluded that if Dean was kept hydrated and properly fed, he could run at

around 7-10 MPH for the rest of his life.

Number Seven: The Human Magnet

Muhibija Buljubašić claims to have a special ability that allows him to stick random objects

onto parts of his body.

Since he discovered his 'magnetic' abilities, Muhibija has been seen with a remarkable range

of objects stuck to his body.

Including multiple spoons, TV remotes, cellphones, glass objects and even an iron!

Now, some speculate that human magnetic abilities are nothing more than greasy skin.

Whether that's true or not, the ability to accumulate the amount of grease it would

require to hold an iron to one's chest would be remarkable in itself!

Number Eight: Zamora the Torture King

Tim Cridland is the man that feels no pain.

Tim has used this ability for shock entertainment by pushing needles and skewers through various

parts of his body.

Tim says he can do this because he has mastered mind over matter.

However, researchers say it's because Tim was born with a mutation, making him not feel

pain the way that the rest of us do.

Number Nine: The Lion Whisperer

Kevin Richardson is an animal behaviorist who has been accepted into several lion prides

and clans of hyenas.

He made a name for himself breaking practically every safety rule that was ever created in

regards to working with wild animals.

Instead, he takes the time and puts in the effort to learn about the animals' unique

behaviors and characteristics.

As a result, these wild animals end up accepting him as one of their own.

Number Ten: The Eye-Popper

Kim Goodman has the most shocking eye-popping ability on the planet.

She can pop out her eyes to an unbelievable 12 millimeters!

Kim discovered her amazing eye-popping ability when she was hit on the head by a hockey mask;

and ever since that day she could pop out her eyes on cue.

Koreans suffer from dual rise in consumer prices and unemployment - Duration: 2:17.

Switching gears to economy,... despite a recovery in Korea's exports,... consumer spending has

been cited as a factor that could hinder growth this year.

In fact, Koreans are confronting unfavorable conditions caused by an increase in inflation

and a growing jobless rate.

Kim Min-ji reports.

Times are getting tougher for Koreans,... due to a rise in consumer prices and growing

unemployment.

According to Statistics Korea,... the so-called Economic Distress Index came to 6-point-4

in March,... the highest since 2012.

The index is a combination of the jobless rate and the inflation growth rate... and

aims to measure the amount of economic difficulty felt by the public.

The figure soared to 8-point-6 during the wake of the global financial crisis in 2008,...

and had since been on a downward trend due to weak inflation.

But the index is back up this year,... due to a spike in food prices, amid the country's

worst bird flu outbreak ever... and a pick up in global oil prices.

The unemployment rate also hit a seven-year high of 4-point-3 percent in the first quarter.

This comes on the back of corporate restructuring in the shipping and shipbuilding industry,...

as well as weak job growth among young people.

As a result, Korea's consumer confidence is low... and ranks near bottom among OECD member

countries.

The index for Korea came to slightly above 99 in March -- up for two straight months...

but still below the OECD average of 100-point-56.

The figure also puts Korea 30th among 32 member nations, with only Turkey and Greece ranked

lower.

A reading above 100 means consumers are optimistic about the economic situation ahead,... while

a reading below 100 reflects pessimism.

The weak figure has been attributed to the political turmoil that has rattled the country

since last year,... as well as the government's ongoing corporate restructuring plan.

On top of that,... weak income growth and a lack of measures to encourage spending have

been cited as reasons for weak consumer confidence.

Korea's nominal monthly household income grew 0-point-6 percent last year,... the slowest

rate of growth since 2003.

Vlad III Țepeș - Character Development - Duration: 13:19.

Warning: The following video contains spoilers for Fate/Extra.

If you'd rather not have major parts of the plot ruined, then you may want to reconsider

watching this video, at least for now.

Normally, when making episodes for Character Development, I try not to have episodes on

characters from the same series so close to one another, as a way to keep some variety

so the show and the subjects covered are nice and varied, but in the case of the Fate series,

I know I have a great deal of discussion ahead of me, and today's a prime time to capitalize

on that.

With each Servant being based on a historical or mythological figure from somewhere around

time and the world, it's a series I'm bound to be returning to for multiple occasions.

After completing most of Fate/Extra, I figured it'd be great to talk about any of the Servants

featured in that particular title, from Emperor Nero of Rome, to Robin Hood of English folklore,

to the mightiest of classical Chinese warriors, Lu Bu Fengxian.

In particular, though, I found that I was most strongly drawn to one of the two opponents

of Week 4, the Lancer-class servant clad in bloodstained armor, Vlad III.

You can best bet I've been waiting to finally get a chance to discuss one of history's

most influentially cruel leaders.

But seeing as the Fate series has not one, but two interpretations of the Impaler Prince

of Wallachia, I'm curious to know how they portray him in Fate/Extra and Fate/Grand Order.

Do they emphasize different aspects of Vlad Dracula, or are these two incarnations closer

to each other than they initially appear?

I'm the Kitsune Hawk, and today, we're going to look into Type-Moon's Fate series

by comparing the Vlad in Fate/Extra and the Vlad in Fate/Grand Order to see how they stack

up to the infamous Prince Vlad Dracula himself.

So get out your pencils, trivia enthusiasts, because this is Character Development!

We can't exactly jump right into breaking down both of the Fate series' interpretations

of Vlad III without first going into the life of the person they're based on and named

after.

And this story's a bit of a long one.

To begin, we need to travel to Romania in the year 1436, when Vlad II became voivode

of Wallachia, a position similar to a warlord, best summarized as a semi-independent military

commander.

Wallachia was the southernmost of the Romanian kingdoms, bordering the Ottoman Empire and

creating tensions between Sunni Islam and the Orthodox Christian Church.

Just five years prior, Vlad II was appointed to be a member of a religious society known

as The Order of the Dragon, which sought to protect Hungary and other Orthodox Christian

kingdoms from the threats of Islam, Paganism, heresy, and Catholicism.

In turn, he came to be known as "Vlad Dracul," meaning "Vlad the Dragon" because of his

membership in the Order.

In spite of his prestige, however, the Ottomans demanded tribute from Vlad Dracul, and, to

avoid war, he was forced to send his two sons to Turkey as exiles.

Stuck in an unfamiliar land with people he knew very little about, the young Vlad III

began to grow a strong hatred for the Turks.

After Vlad Dracul had been assassinated in 1447, the Ottoman Turks, wishing to re-stabilize

Wallachia, placed Vlad III in power in 1448.

From here, he took on the title "Vlad Dracula," meaning "Vlad, the Son of the Dragon,"

though "drac" also happened to be a Romanian word for "devil," so Vlad III's title

could also be read as "Vlad, the Son of the Devil," a name he would very soon earn,

immediately declaring the very Ottoman Turks who put him in power to be Wallachia's prime

enemy.

Preparing for an inevitable conflict with the Ottomans, Vlad III saw fit to build up

Wallachia's defenses with new battlements, watchtowers, and underground tunnels.

In order to build up his kingdom not only externally, but also internally, Vlad worked

to ensure the loyalty of the Wallachian people, even forcing the noblest boyars to work alongside

commoners in fortifying Wallachia's castles and forts.

In their place, Vlad appointed new, loyal nobles to extend his reach.

Throughout his three terms ruling over Wallachia, Vlad III was chiefly defined by his cruelty,

exemplified by his fondness for impalement, an execution method by which a spear was driven

through the victim's chest; typically, though, this wasn't fatal on impact, as most victims

would continue to writhe in agony, exposed to the elements until they finally bled to

death.

Vlad showed not a single iota of mercy to his rivals and enemies, especially the Transylvanian

Saxons, whom he impaled or burnt alive en masse, and the Ottoman Turks, as seen in Vlad's

1462 Bulgarian campaign, where 23,000 Turks were impaled in total, and after the failed

assassination attempt on Sultan Mehmed II, where, in the aftermath, Vlad created a "forest

of spears" from 20,000 impaled bodies spread across the Danube River, a sight that horrified

the Turks and caused them to turn back.

Even the common people of Wallachia could be impaled for the most minor of crimes, perhaps

even nothing at all.

So many bodies were impaled, that Vlad decorated the exterior of his castle with them; some

legends say he even dined amidst the bodies and dipped his bread in their blood.

Of Vlad Tepes' cruelty, Sultan Mehmed II is believed to have aptly said, "I am not

frightened by any man, but the devil is an exception."

The only thing keeping Vlad in power was the Christian Church, happy to see that he was

keeping the Ottomans and Islam out of Europe.

In 1462, however, Vlad III was leading the Ottomans on a scorched earth goose chase through

Wallachia, until he was captured and imprisoned in Hungary for 13 years, betrayed by the very

nobility he was supposed to protect.

Some Slavic stories posit that Vlad converted to Catholicism while imprisoned, feeling that

he was betrayed by his own religion, too.

When Vlad was finally released in 1475, he immediately charged into Wallachia to reclaim

his throne.

Only reigning for two more bloody years, Vlad Dracula was assassinated in 1477, by the very

nobles he had put in power.

In the end, Vlad Tepes' victims numbered over 100,000, not including victims of war

or from other countries, and his legacy is somewhat split; many Romanians see Vlad Tepes

as a national hero, defending Romania at all costs and outwitting a Turkish army many times

the size of his own; the rest of the world, however, remembers Vlad as a bloodthirsty

tyrant whose cruelty and name continue to terrify the hearts of many, especially after

his title of "Dracula" was used by the Irish author Bram Stoker for his world-famous

novel of the same name, forever linking the blood-drinking noble to the vampires of European

folklore.

So…

That was a lot to cover, both from the subject matter and how much needed to be discussed.

With all of that in mind, now we can talk about Fate.

It should first be noted that Fate has two different servants based on Vlad III: a Lancer-class

servant introduced in Fate/Extra and another Lancer-class Servant introduced in the light

novel Fate/Apocrypha, who reappears in Fate/Grand Order as a Berserker-class Servant.

However, because my focus is looking at how video games interpret the history and legends

of Vlad Tepes, we'll be focusing more on the Vlad seen in Fate/Extra, but I'll come

back to Fate/Grand Order in due time.

In Fate/Extra, Vlad III appears as the Servant to Lil' Ronnie, a psychotic cannibal woman

masquerading as a mascot for a fast food chain.

Throughout Week 4—provided you saved Rin instead of Rani VIII—the interactions between

Lil' Ronnie and Vlad reveal not only the character of Vlad as a Heroic Spirit, but

also mirror his real-life counterpart.

On Day 1, Vlad discusses his sheer devotion to his religion when he was still alive, even

calling out to his old God before saying that his religious devotion ultimately rewarded

him with decapitation, a description based on the most accepted version of the real-life

Vlad Tepes' assassination.

Betrayed by his country and his faith, he now pledges his loyalty to his Master, supporting

her cannibalism with his lust for bloodshed through his spear.

By Day 4, he lashes out against the treacherous nature of humanity, again calling back to

the circumstances of the real-life Vlad III's death, as well as his war against his exiled

brother and arrest by the Hungarian nobility he was supposed to protect.

Both in and out of battle, Vlad further references the life of his Wallachian counterpart.

His main skill, Divine Aegis, deforms the sanity and personality of its wielder the

stronger it is, and at A+++ rank for Vlad, it's the main reason he acts so bloodthirsty

and fiercely devoted to his Master.

The skill's name and description are most likely based on Vlad's devotion to the Eastern

Orthodox Church and the Order of the Dragon, being given the church's protection and

allowing him to slaughter in the name of God.

Vlad's second ability is Marshall, which allows him to retreat from combat or continue

after sustaining mortal wounds.

This is likely based on Vlad Tepes' war with the Ottoman Sultan Mehmed II, in which

Vlad used tactical retreats to distract and lure the Turkish army, funneling down their

morale in the process.

Vlad's third and final out-of-battle skill is Seraphic Monstrosity, which alters his

physical appearance to match his reputation.

As such, his armor is distinctly bloodstained, his eyes are a dark red, his skin is a very

pale tone, and he also has noticeable fangs, resembling the vampire that modern legends

have made him out to be.

And then in battle, Vlad has two combat skills of note.

The first of which is Ceremonial Purge, in which Vlad impales himself and returns some

of the damage dealt to him.

It's worth noting that Vlad impales himself through the chest, the exact same way his

historical counterpart loved so much.

The other skill is Vlad's Noble Phantasm, Kazikli Bey: Fortress of Impalement, which

is named after another one of Vlad's many titles, Kazikli Voyvoda, meaning "Impaler

Prince".

The Noble Phantasm itself deals damage based on the sins accumulated by its target, the

kind of divine punishment that the real-life Vlad III often called his impalement of Turks,

Transylvanians, and his own Wallachians.

And yet, once Vlad is defeated, he admits that he deserves his punishment for slaughtering

his own people while he was still alive, even accepting that the only place he belongs in

is the depths of Hell.

As for the other version of Vlad who reappeared in Fate/Grand Order as a Berserker-class Servant,

he seems to be much more in tune with the vampire legends now attached to the name of

Dracula, rather than the historical figure of Vlad Tepes.

This Vlad's skills include Shapeshift, which allows him to transform into mist or a cloud

of bats, Blood-Sucking, which allows him to replenish his health and attack strength,

and Mad Enhancement, which furthers the intensity of his vampirism.

Even his distinct Noble Phantasm, Kazikli Bey: Bloodstained King Demon, is a vampire-inspired

recreation of the real-life Vlad III's "Forest of Spears".

There really isn't much I can say on this matter that has to do with the actual Vlad

and not the already detailed mythos of vampires.

I hate to end on a downer of a detail, but hey, maybe that could be an idea for a future

video.

Ultimately, I find it quite fascinating that Type-Moon's Fate series presents two distinct

Servants based on the infamous Impaler Lord of Wallachia: one firmly based on the historical

figure, physically and mentally warped by his bloodlust and the distortions brought

on by centuries of legends, and the other based on the fullest extent of the vampire

legends now tightly associated with the Son of the Dragon.

While some may debate whether Vlad III was a violent despot or a national and religious

hero, he was a noble who certainly sank his fangs into the pages of history, and seeing

the Fate series embrace both the realism and the fiction surrounding Vlad III through two

incarnations of the same figure makes me happy to see both sides of the coin given proper

attention.

"Fairytale Of New York" The Shane MacGowan Version featuring Kirsty MacColl

It was Christmas eve babe, In the drunk tank

An old man said to me, Won't see another one

And then he sang a song The Rare Old Mountain Dew

I turned my face away And dreamed about you

Got on a lucky one Came in eighteen to one

I've got a feeling This year's for me and you

So happy Christmas I love you baby

I can see a better time When all our dreams come true

They've got cars Big as bars

They've got rivers of gold But the wind goes right through you

It's no place for the old When you first took my hand

On a cold Christmas Eve You promised me

Broadway was waiting for me You were handsome

You were pretty Queen of New York City

When the band finished playing They howled out for more

Sinatra was swinging All the drunks they were singing

We kissed on the corner Then danced through the night

The boys of the NYPD choir Were singing 'Galway Bay'

And the bells are ringing Out for Christmas day

You're a bum You're a punk

You're an old slut on junk Lying there almost dead

On a drip in that bed You scumbag

You maggot You cheap lousy faggot

Happy Christmas your arse I pray God

It's our last The boys of the NYPD choir

Still singing 'Galway Bay' And the bells are ringing

Out for Christmas day I could have been someone

Well, so could anyone You took my dreams

From me when I first found you I kept them with me babe

I put them with my own Can't make it all alone

I've built my dreams around you The boys of the NYPD choir

Still singing 'Galway Bay' And the bells are ringing
