For another person, it might be the fully decked out, 23-window deluxe
(Kristy Siefkin, reporting) Richard Kimbrough was the fourth member to join the Arizona Bus Club
Which started 27 years ago
At one point, Richard owned 40 buses
Now, he's down to 27

So I try not to buy anymore

In fact, she almost delivered her son inside this VW

(Michelle Evans) I was going to have a

could have him in the bus and she said
of course but i won't overdo so I ended
up having to have him in hospital
(Kristy Siefkin, reporting) I wasn't born in a VW Bus, but it turns out
I spent a lot of time in one
Headed to the park with my sister and dad
In my mom's arms on camping trips but unlike
But unlike Greg Pickrel, I'm not sure what happened to our bus
(Greg Pickrel) My father, he sold it to my sister
They gave it to their son, who drove it to high school
And I bought it from him about six years ago and then I restored it
(Kristy Siefkin, reporting) The Arizona Bus Club, or ABC for short
Celebrates buses from all decades
Members from the nonprofit restore one VW Bus each year
And raffle it off for charity
You're clear to pop it up, and I think the material's in pretty good shape
Some people have never turned a wrench before and they get
together and find jobs that you'd do
Whether it's cleaning parts
or taking things apart or sanding
We get people dangerous equipment and we say
"Here are some safety glasses and gloves, and go at it!"
(Kristy Siefkin, reporting) Roy Jonas has managed
several club projects including
restoring this bus, in honor of Jerome's fire department
The town hosts ABC's
annual Jerome Jamboree at the historic Gold King Mine
(Michelle Evans) Some people call it kind
of a mini "Burning Man", but it's not as bananas
(Kristy Siefkin, reporting) For 50¢ a ticket, Jamboree attendees can enter to win the restored bus
Mike Baleda's wife won this raffle bus: a 1966 Riviera
They call him Bogart and have driven him
across Arizona and Colorado
(Mike Baleda) In Monument Valley, the buses were not loaded they
took pictures of the bus rather than the
monument. Everywhere we went, people would
ask they can get inside the kids get pictures inside
(Kristy Siefkin, reporting) The proceeds from the raffle benefit local charities like the
Epilepsy Foundation and Dogs R Vets
And though fundraising is ABC's mission
It's the sense of community and
connectedness that keeps this club rolling along
(Darla Amatasin) That's even better than the bus part it's just that just the
people are so wonderful
(Michelle Evans) We do caravans, we even go take all our buses and go on
a float down the river I mean we just do everything together
(Group chants "ABC, ABC")

Mustang Week! Best Wash and Dry For Your Car - Chemical Guys Car Care - Duration: 13:31.
So we've just picked up this Mustang from a good friend of the Detail Garage.
You guys have been asking what is the proper way to wash your car as well as how do you
detail your car properly so we've brought this car in to show you guys exactly what
you need and the proper techniques and we'll do a full mini series on the exact procedures,
the products and basically everything you need to detail your vehicle demonstrating
it on this Mustang.
So this is going to be a full blown Mustang detail, stay tuned til the end we are going
to be doing some awesome stuff to this vehicle.
If you have any comments you have or if there is anything we didn't cover be sure to drop
a comment below.
We love to hear your guys' feedback, we love answering your questions so whatever you guys
have to say let us know we'll try to get it into the video or if we don't we'll get it
in the next one.
As I had mentioned we are starting a full blown detail on this Mustang, we'll begin
with the dirtiest area that being the wheels.
I've already got my bucket set up here with plain water and I'll use this as my rinse
bucket and I've placed a Dirt Trap all the way at the bottom which is going to help reduce
as much of that corrosive brake dust from returning to the wheel and scratching the finish.
I'll start off with the Easy Reach Wheel Detailing Brush, this is a soft bristle brush that contours
to spokes and small crevices to get off as much of the brake dust to get this wheel looking
right.
Then, we're going to clean the face of the wheel using our Green Flagged Tip Brush, this
is a very soft bristled brush that cleans to majority of the face which is the most
obvious area.
To finish it off we're going to clean the tire using the Stiffy Blue Brush and the hard
nylon plastic bristles remove road grime and previous dressings to bring back that natural
black rubber look and it will make it easier to apply a new dressing making it last longer
and look better.
Before we begin we'll rinse off the wheel to get as much of that heavier, loose brake
dust off and it is going to make it easier for us to clean.
So as you can see just by rinsing off the wheel it has taken care a lot of the loose
dirt and debris and that is going to make it a lot easier to clean.
As I mentioned this bucket is full of plain water for rinsing but to help us clean I'll
be using some Sticky Citrus Wheel Gel.
I'll spray it directly on to the surface of the tire and rim, it is emulsifying as well
as penetrating the surface to get off all the embedded junk and grime so we can reveal
a nice clean wheel.
You can use Sticky Wheel Gel on basically any wheel surface whether you have painted,
chrome, OEM or any other wheel type it is going to trap all that grime to make it easy
to clean.
The best part is it creates a foaming action that produces lubrication while pulling off
all that brake dust.
To add some cleaning power as well as lubrication I'll spray some Sticky Citrus Wheel Gel onto
the brush.
This way as we scrub we won't grind any brake dust into the wheel creating scratches.
We'll start at the highest point and working back and forth pulling off all the brake dust
and anything else you pick up as you drive.
You can see it creates this foaming action which safely removes anything that is sitting
on the wheel.
This brush is great because it contours to the small intricate areas such as between
the caliper and barrel where there is a small tolerance but the brush is so maneuverable
it will go all the way to the back of the wheel to get off as much of the grime to give
you a perfect finish.
As I had mentioned whenever you are doing a full blown detail you want to start with
the dirtiest area, the wheels obviously pick up all kinds of grime from the road, filth
and brake dust which is highly corrosive.
It can penetrate the surface, deteriorate your clear coat or paint job and cause your
wheel to fail over time.
Before you start any detail you want to make sure that the car is cool, we brought this
car in a couple of hours ago so it has had plenty of time to cool off while we're in
the shade here which brings up another good point.
A lot of you guys ask can you detail your car on direct sunlight, as long as you are
using the right products it is possible.
So if you are using a pH balanced soap it is not going to dry on the surface creating
stains or water spots but also as I said if you bring it into the shade or if you can
create your own shade it's going to reduce that risk.
So we're going to keep on working that way we can get into the foaming process.
By getting all the hard to reach areas using the Easy Reach Wheel Brush we can move on
to our Green Flagged Tip Brush.
Like I said, this is a soft bristle brush that takes care of the most obvious area being
the wheel.
Again I'll spray some Sticky Citrus Wheel Gel into the brush to add lubrication and
cleaning power.
Now we'll hit the face of the wheel to get any last residue or anything we pulled from
the back of the wheel, for a perfectly clean rim.
As you can see the bristles of this brush are very maneuverable, they're very flexible
so they can get in between lug nuts and intricate areas like emblems and it takes care of anything
that was sitting on the surface.
Lastly, we're going to clean any previous dressings from the tire and any road grime
so we can reveal a natural black tire that is going to make it easier for new dressings
to adhere to and bond making it last longer while looking better.
A quick tip is whenever you're working on a car that either has a lowered suspension
like this Mustang where it is hard to get your brush in here or on low profile tires,
to get the hard to reach areas or areas you may have missed just roll the car forward
or backward this way you can get all the way around the wheel for a uniform shine.
So that was simple enough, now that I've finished this tire I'm going to move on to the remaining three.
As you guys can tell I've just rinsed off the car, starting at the top where the heavier
loose dirt is we rinsed it down so we aren't getting any dirt on areas we already rinsed.
You probably saw that I was using the hose on the lowest pressure, that is because this
car has a vinyl wrap stripe and if you are using a pressure washer or high pressure hose
it may lift or peel off and that is the same for the window with decals, using a high pressure
system it can tear it off.
So we're going to be as gentle as we can this way we don't scratch it or tear off any vinyl.
Now we're going to move on to our buckets, as you can tell I have two buckets set up
here with dionized water.
One is going to be our wash solution full of C9 Vitalize Wash and the other is going
to be our rinse bucket for wringing out our Big Chubby.
Before we do that we need to place a Dirt Trap in each bucket.
I have two Dirt Traps, one green and one red, the color doesn't make a difference but it
is to help you coordinate which bucket is which.
Pressing it in at an angle and pressing it all the way to the bottom reduces any air
getting trap underneath it and the same process for the rinse bucket, place it in at an angle
and press it against the bottom.
Now that it has created a seal it is going to prevent any of the dirt and filth from
returning to the vehicle.
Now I will place about an ounce of C9 Vitalize Wash into the bucket.
A lot of guys ask, what is an ounce?
It's about three cap fulls so if you are trying to measure it out just dump three cap fulls
in and you're ready to go.
Now we can start foaming this up to get the loose dirt and debris off of the vehicle without scratching.
I ALMOST forgot the most important part.
We're going to be using our TORQ Snow Foamer, this is the foam cannon I've chosen to give
us tons of lubrication as we wash.
The suds act as lubrication because they emulsify the dirt and this is reducing scratches or
swirls that you can cause while you wash.
I'll place about an ounce in the bottle as well.
After tightening the top I'll mix it back and forth this mixes it all together creating
the wash solution to create foam and suds.
Don't shake the bottle too much because that is going to create foam inside of the bottle
and won't perform as well as it would if you shook it normally.
Now we're ready to go.
Check that out!
C9 Vitalize did an amazing job of producing tons of suds that are lubricating the surface
as well as emulsifying any dirt that is on there so we don't scratch it.
Over here I've got the Big Chubby and this bucket full of soap and foam it is going to
attract tons of suds so that our sponge is lubricated .
Whenever you wash you'll want to start at the highest point so we're going to go to
the roof of the Mustang.
Working in straight lines we're going to pull off all the dirt and anything that was sitting
on top of the surface this way we don't scratch.
If you don't do it already it is a pro tip to lift your windshield wipers as you're cleaning
the windshield because as you wash all the run off will collect on the blades so by lifting
it up you are wiping all of that away and when you're done rinsing off the vehicle it
is going to be a perfectly clean car.
The Big Chubby has collected some dirt and debris so we're going to come to the second
bucket and press it all the way to the bottom against the Dirt Trap it is forcing the dirt
underneath those cones and it keeps it off of the car.
To further reduce the amount of dirt in the bucket I'll take it out and wring it out on
the ground.
Now we'll come back to our wash bucket and keep on washing.
Although C9 Vitalize was designed for cars with coatings whether it be ceramic or carbon,
this car doesn't have a coating it is still going to get the same hydrophobic properties
which is going to make it super slick and it is also going to give it a nice clean shine
so this blue metallic flake is really going to POP once we're done cleaning.
Also, you see this car has two different colors that is because it has a vinyl stripe running
down the center and the stripe is a pearl metallic so by cleaning it with a soap with
hydrophobic properties such as C9 Vitalize it is going to give it a protective property
that is going to help it last as long as it can.
So to conclude any wash process you need to dry the vehicle.
This is going to help prevent any water spots or staining and it is also going to make the
vehicle great.
So using a Woolly Mammoth Towel I'll drape it on the vehicle and start pulling off all
this water.
Starting at the highest point just like I did when I was washing this is going to prevent
bringing any water to places that I've already dried.
You can see working in straight lines prevents swirls and scratches, making it easier to
dry the vehicle.
C9 Vitalize Wash did a tremendous job picking up all the dirt and debris that was sitting
on the surface.
Now, you guys ask for dirty cars and although this one wasn't super dirty it still had the
daily driver grime and debris.
Waiting for your car to super dirty is like waiting for your teeth to fall out when you
decide to start brushing your teeth.
So preventative maintenance just by washing it weekly or biweekly to get off all that
road grime and debris to keep your vehicle looking right.
If you noticed while I was washing I wasn't scrubbing on the paintwork or working in circles,
just by letting the soap do its work and emulsifying dirt and debris it made it easy for me to
wipe off without scratching.

Why Tesla Wants To Put Its Battery Pack On Ice For Super Fast, Super Chill Supercharging - Duration: 7:55.
One of the big challenges facing electric vehicles, as I'm sure you'll know if you're
an electric car driver, is the time it takes to refuel your car on a long-distance trip.
Don't get me wrong: in the past decade we've seen dramatic improvements in this, thanks
to improved rapid charging infrastructure, improved rapid charging speeds and larger-capacity
battery packs, all of which make it easier than ever before to drive long distance by
electric car.
Yet still the critics come, moaning that until they can refuel their cars in ten minutes
or less they're not interested in a plug-in car.
And so we're starting to see some really high-powered charging systems being developed
by both automakers and charging providers in an attempt to get the charge time down
for electric cars while simultaneously accommodating ever-larger capacity battery packs.
Except there's a problem with this.
The more power you need to transfer, the larger the connector becomes needed to transfer that
power -- or the more you need to focus on cooling in order to ensure that large currents
can be transferred from charging station to car without causing major issues to the battery
pack.
Because without doing so, you create a massive amount of heat which can ultimately cause
the battery pack to undergo premature aging.
Which is why Tesla has been working on a new type of charging station that charges your
car and cools the battery at the same time.
Intrigued?
I'll explain more next.
Stay where you are.
Hi there!
I'm Nikki Gordon-Bloomfield from Transport Evolved, and today we're going to be looking
at the recently-released patent application made by Tesla to the U.S. Patents and Trademark
Office for a new type of Supercharging system that is designed to keep electric car battery
packs cool while charging them at seemingly impossibly high charge rates.
As our friends at Electrek reported over the weekend, Tesla first applied to patent the
battery cooling-while-charging technology back in twenty fourteen, updating the application
in twenty sixteen before it was finally published earlier this month.
Titled "Charging Station providing Thermal Conditioning of Electric Vehicle during Charging
Session" the patent lays out a couple of different options Tesla is presumably investigating
as a way of keeping its electric car battery packs cool while charging them at high power
rates.
But before I get too much into the patent itself, I guess it makes sense just to go
over why cooling might be needed in the first place.
You see, most lithium-ion electric car battery packs are a little like us.
They prefer temperate conditions that are not too hot or not too cold.
Push them too hard in the middle of winter, and their range will suffer as internal cell
resistance goes up in cold weather and the battery wastes more of its energy in heat.
Push them too hard in hot weather, and the battery will suffer premature battery ageing.
Which is why most modern electric cars -- the Nissan LEAF is an exception -- use active
thermal management systems designed to keep the batteries at a comfortable 'room temperature'
at all times.
So far, so good.
But when you charge a battery, especially at high currents, the battery itself will
heat up.
That's because when you push high currents through a metal conductor, more of the power
passing through it is lost to heat.
Think of it a little like trying to walk through a corridor with a group of people versus trying
to run through the same corridor with the same amount of people -- more people will
bump into one another, and you'll all get hotter to boot.
My terrible physics analogy out of the way, there are two ways to fix this: firstly, you
make the conductor (the corridor) bigger, which makes it easier for larger currents
to pass through or… you cool the conductor down as a way of offsetting the heat generated
by the current passing through it.
Obviously, you can only go so big with connectors, so the preferred option right now is to cool
down the cables and connectors.
Which is where Tesla's patent comes in.
In its patent (remember this isn't a definite production plan but rather an engineering
possibility) Tesla describes a series of different computer-controlled cooling mechanisms that
it could use to provide additional high-capacity cooling to a charging electric car.
They all revolve around an under-car solution that either pumps coolant around a heat exchanger
mounted under the car -- thus assisting the car's on-board battery cooling system -- or
using some form of air-based cooling system that could force air between the batteries
in the battery pack to keep them cool as the car charges at rates in excess of several
hundred kilowatts.
Current cooling technologies are based entirely on-car and for now, can cope with the level
of thermal management required during high current Supercharging.
But as Supercharging -- and other DC quick charge systems push well beyond two, three
or maybe even four-hundred kilowatts (which would fill a Tesla 100D battery pack to eighty
percent in about a quarter hour) external cooling would make it far easier for automakers
to keep battery packs cool without requiring massive, oversized on-board charging systems.
Tesla's patent application does seem to cover all the bases with a variety of different
solutions, which were it anyone else, would make it difficult for other automakers to
follow suit.
But in Tesla's case -- at least given its past treatment of patents as something to
share quid pro quo -- I think it could lead to a future where any developed battery cooling
technology could be shared.
This technology is likely also preferable to battery swap technology for customers too,
as customers will know exactly what the history of their car's battery, rather than taking
on board an unknown battery when their car's battery pack is depleted.
From a technical standpoint, this system would be cheaper to implement too, as it would not
require and on-site battery storage system too.
And while I'm on the subject of battery swapping and cooling, I should note here that
this isn't the first time we've seen cooling trialed as a way to keep battery packs healthy
during rapid charging.
Better Place, the now defunct Israeli company which tried to bring battery swapping for
electric cars to the world, actually charged the Renault Fluence Z.E. battery packs used
in its battery swap stations at fifty kilowatts or so -- the same speed as they would be charged
in say, a Nissan LEAF -- but did so while forcing cold air through the battery pack
inside the swap station so the battery packs were kept at an ideal temperature.
As I've pointed out, there's no confirmation Tesla will be using the technology referenced
in the patent in its production vehicles.
Companies, especially ones on the cutting edge of a new technology, patent stuff all
the time without ever actually using it.
But I'm eager to know what you think about the various different possibilities for external
battery pack cooling while charging, what the challenges might be, and how effective
you think it'd be.
