Aldrich Brothers-Race Against Time: Real Sports Full Segment (HBO) - Duration: 13:51.

Up next, a story of brotherly love

and teamwork amidst the most trying of circumstances.

SOLEDAD O'BRIEN: It's race day,

which means it's time for 11-year-old Noah Aldrich

to ditch his glasses for his goggles.

Noah is getting ready to compete in a triathlon,

which means after swimming, he'll have to bike, then run.

-How are you feeling? -Um, good?

A little nervous?

-More excited than nervous. -Yeah?

What is your strategy for the swim?

I try to start off slow so I can conserve my energy

and not use it all at once.

O'BRIEN: He might sound like an old pro,

but the truth is, Noah already knows

he's not going to win.

In fact, he won't even come close.

O'BRIEN: Go Noah! Woohoo!

O'BRIEN: Do you think you're a good athlete?

Yeah, I try to be.

What slows you down?

Definitely a lot of the stuff I'm pulling behind me.

O'BRIEN: Noah is only half the equation

in this competition.

The other half is his little brother Lucas

who was born with a severe disability,

and lacks the ability to move or speak.

The races start in the water, whether a pool or a pond...

ALL: Three, two, one!

-MAN: Go! -(CROWD CHEERING)

O'BRIEN: Noah attaches himself to the raft,

and pulls Lucas for a 200-yard swim.

(CHEERING)

O'BRIEN: Then, Noah hits the road

and pedals with his brother for five miles.

-(CROWD CHEERING) -WOMAN: Good job! Good job!

O'BRIEN: And on the final leg, he pushes Lucas for one mile

before they cross the finish line.

MAN: There we go. There's a finisher right there.

O'BRIEN: It's quite a heavy load for a fifth grader.

So do the math for me.

Lucas weighs anywhere from 60 to 70 pounds.

I way about 75 pounds.

And... the cart weighs 50 pounds.

So I'm pulling over 100 pounds usually.

That's a lot.

It can be hard,

but I just look back and see Lucas's smile,

and it just... kind of fuels me up to keep going.

O'BRIEN: That smile is one of the only ways

that Lucas can communicate.

He was born with a severe brain malformation

called lissencephaly,

that has not only left him effectively frozen

in his own body,

but is also expected to end his life

sooner than later,

which means the brothers are not just racing

against the competition, but time itself.

Brian and Alissa Aldrich were given the stunning news

by their doctor when Lucas was just months old.

He told us that Lucas would never walk,

he'd never talk,

that he had an 80% chance of having seizures,

and, most importantly, he gave us a prognosis

that Lucas would probably have a 50/50 chance

that he would make it to ten.

And how old is he now?

-Nine. Yeah. -Nine and a half.

O'BRIEN: Children with the disease can have

a weakened immune system,

which means routine viruses,

colds, or seasonal flus can be deadly.

It's why some children with Lucas's disease

are kept away from any unnecessary exposure to the world.

It was a choice the Aldrich's doctor

told them they'd have to make for themselves.

ALISSA ALDRICH: He said 50% of the people that I see,

the parents will go home, they'll keep them in a box,

they'll keep them safe,

they'll keep them contained, away from germs.

The other half go home and take their children out

and experience life.

And Brian and I didn't even have to...

Yeah, we knew what we were gonna do.

...look at each other.

We decided, "You know what? We're gonna go home

and we're gonna do everything we can with that little boy."

Because I know if it was me in his condition

and his situation,

I wouldn't want to be locked up

in a house just waiting to die.

O'BRIEN: So they raised Lucas just like his big brother Noah.

Everywhere he went, Lucas went.

Everything that Noah tried, Lucas tried too.

ALISSA: Good morning.

O'BRIEN: It wasn't easy.

Alissa quit her job as a project manager

to become a full-time caretaker.

-Ready for this part? -(SIGHS)

(TOOTHBRUSH WHIRRING)

O'BRIEN: The most routine tasks can take hours with their son.

It requires a full commitment from the entire family.

Noah is one of the few 11-year-olds

whose an expert in working a feeding tube.

But over the last nine and a half years,

Brian and Alissa have watched their boys

become inseparable. Even best friends.

Communicating in their own special way.

We wanted to learn more about Lucas,

so we got some answers

with a little help from his big brother.

Lucas, what games do you and Noah like playing together?

What's your favorite that we play?

We do some battles together

with all, like, the Nerf guns and stuff.

Nerf gun wars, okay.

-NOAH: Yeah. -What else?

-We also have sword fights. -O'BRIEN: Uh-huh.

-Oh, that got a big smile. -Yeah.

He must like sword fights.

I think he likes the sword fights the most.

Somebody might say, "How do you do that with your brother?

How does he play Nerf guns?"

(NERF GUN POPS)

NOAH ALDRICH: It kind of takes a lot of imagination,

but he just likes being part of it.

-(SQUEALS EXCITEDLY) -Good game, Lucas. Good game.

O'BRIEN: You guys seem very physically close.

Like you hold his hand a lot when you're talking.

-Yeah. -Why's that?

Well, just, first of all, his hands are really soft.

And...

I feel like I just have a need to protect him a little bit.

Oh, that was amazing, Lucas. You're so good at this game.

O'BRIEN: Despite the brothers' closeness,

there was one thing it seemed they could never do together,

play sports.

For Brian Aldrich, it was one of the most painful parts

of learning about Lucas's illness.

I have a brother that's the same age

as the difference between Noah and Lucas,

and I had this picture of Noah and Lucas growing up

like my brother and I did. We're best friends.

Playing, and sports, and this,

and it's just like... (EXHALES) gone.

O'BRIEN: Until a few years ago, when the family saw a video

of a pair of brothers who competed

in triathlons together, and Noah had an idea.

He just turned to me and he said,

"Mom, I want to do that with Lucas."

And that was it.

Did you ever want to do triathlons before then?

Definitely not. I never thought of that at all.

I didn't even know what a triathlon was.

I mean, a triathlon--

A triathlon, taking nobody, is hard.

O'BRIEN: Why would you wanna do that?

Well, Lucas can't do sports like I can and stuff.

And I thought it would be good for him to participate

in stuff too.

O'BRIEN: So the brothers signed up for a youth triathlon

in their hometown of Boise, Idaho.

There was just one problem.

I realized I couldn't swim very well.

You didn't know you couldn't swim?

I thought I could swim fairly well,

but... I got in the pool, and I failed miserably.

O'BRIEN: That's when the brothers met Kevin Everett,

a coach at the local YMCA.

O'BRIEN: When two boys show up and decide they want

to start doing triathlons...

oh, one of them can't swim,

and the other one's in a wheelchair.

-Right. -Why would you say yes to that?

I thought other people would probably go,

"No, that's not possible."

But I certainly didn't want to be that person.

O'BRIEN: Everett not only helped Noah with his strokes,

he introduced Lucas to the water, too.

And within weeks,

the brothers were ready for their first triathlon.

Were you worried?

I wasn't really worried till he jumped in the pond

in that first triathlon.

I was... petrified. It was like, "What are we doing?"

(LAUGHING)

(CROWD CHEERING)

O'BRIEN: Noah and Lucas together were fearless.

And Brian and Alissa helped the boys

transition safely to each event.

BRIAN ALDRICH: I went from, you know, a nervous wreck

to absolute joy of, like, what my sons had accomplished.

And the most incredible thing I think was after the race,

Lucas would not keep his eyes off Noah.

He looked at him, he followed him everywhere.

He was just that look of love.

Like, you could tell that he knew he did something

that kids like him don't ever get to do.

(CROWD CHEERING)

O'BRIEN: That first race led to a second and a third,

and now the brothers compete all the time.

Every race is an endurance test for both brothers,

especially Lucas, who is competing

with a weak respiratory and immune system,

risking his health on every single ride.

But the Aldriches say the memories have been worth it,

and that Lucas is happiest when he's out on the course

with his best friend.

He even has some tips for his older brother.

Lucas, do you think Noah should go a little faster?

-For sure. -(LAUGHS)

Do you get the feeling that he wants you to go faster?

How do you know?

Well, he-- I just look back at him...

-Mm-hmm. -and he just has this look in his eyes.

It's kind of, like, bored.

"This is just not fun. I want more."

NOAH: So I know that's when he wants me to go faster.

O'BRIEN: Do you ever think about quitting in the race?

-NOAH: Never. -You never think about quitting?

No. It'd make Lucas so sad if we just stopped

right in the middle of the race.

Is he ever just worn out doing triathlons

with a 100-pound rig attached to him?

He never complains.

I think he just thinks about Lucas, honestly,

and what he's doing for him.

O'BRIEN: Noah remains dedicated to the sport for his brother.

They practice twice a week, always together.

And Noah gives it all he's got.

All that work has made Noah strong.

Strong enough, in fact, that he might well win

if he competed on his own.

O'BRIEN: Noah's an athletic little kid.

Absolutely. He could do this on his own,

and do very well, and maybe win the race.

But he does it with his brother.

As long as Lucas is having fun, I'm having fun,

and I don't care if we come in first or second,

or any place at all.

As long as we finish the race and we're both happy.

O'BRIEN: Noah can protect his brother on the track,

but Lucas fights his health battles alone.

Last summer, Lucas spent weeks in the hospital

recovering from hernia surgery.

In the fall, he suffered grand mal seizures.

Today he's dealing with painful scoliosis

and has trouble breathing.

The age ten always felt far away until now.

Now that we're reaching that point,

you know, ultimately we don't know

-how long he will live. -I mean, this is tou--

I mean, every morning we get up and walk in his room

and hope to God he's still breathing,

because a lot of times that's how these kids go.

They just pass in the middle of the night.

Can you imagine life without him?

No. Yeah.

What I always think about is just...

I'll never look back and regret...

anything that we've done.

Like, we've made memories for a lifetime.

Yeah, we've created a legacy for Lucas.

And what about imagining a life...

where Noah doesn't have Lucas?

-(SOFTLY) Yeah. -(CHUCKLES)

Yeah. That's...

Well, it's hard to think about. I mean, it's one thing--

It's one thing for us to think about our lives

without Lucas, but Noah and their bond, and...

I mean, even at that young age, they've always been inseparable.

ALISSA: All right! Go Noah! Go Lucas!

O'BRIEN: We were with the Aldriches

at their first triathlon of the season.

A two day event, an indoor swim...

MAN: Noah and Lucas Aldrich!

O'BRIEN: ...followed by a rainy day of competition.

Noah says the slippery conditions

made it their most challenging race yet.

The hilly dirt roads also put him to the test

and made for a very bumpy ride for his brother.

(LUCAS GROANS)

NOAH: I know, I know.

-(CROWD CHEERING) -BRIAN: Yeah! Woohoo!

O'BRIEN: But they managed to finish the race like always.

You laughing at your brother?

O'BRIEN: For now, Noah is focusing on the future.

The future he's hoping to share with his little brother.

He believes there's still time left for him

and his best friend.

Do you ever think about a time

when maybe you're running triathlons

and Lucas isn't around?

(SIGHS) I try not to think of that at all.

But I like to think that we'll be doing triathlons

for a while, together.

We're hoping he will make it to way past ten.

But my goal in the end is to do an Ironman with Lucas,

which is a really big triathlon.

Do you think you're gonna make that goal?

For sure.

We have been training for so long,

I think if we just keep trying

and doing triathlons together, we can make it.

Hey guys! Welcome back to my channel

So, in this video, it's going to be very casual

Just sit down, drink coffee, and talk to you guys for a little bit

I have some things that I want to talk about

So good!

Okay so today was a pretty eventful day for me

So I had an allergy appointment today

I made the appointment about 2 weeks ago when I made the call

And usually every time before I end the call, I tend to always ask for an interpreter

To confirm and make sure that they will provide an interpreter for me

And it was confirmed!

Okay so..

Two days ago, they called me to confirm if I was attending and I said yes

Also, I asked again for confirmation of interpreter and they said they already did order one for me

Then that day, I came in and checked in to make sure everything's confirmed

Then I went up to the front desk and talked to the woman

I asked her if my interpreter has arrived yet since I didn't know if he/she was here yet

She told me that she would check for me

And then she said, "Oh, I'm sorry, we didn't order one. We didn't know that we had to order an interpreter"

You know it was kinda funny because

I made sure a couple of times already to please order an interpreter for me

And yet, they didn't order an interpreter for me

At that time, I was a little frustrated

And I was like..

I already told you a couple of times to please get one for me and you didn't

She said, "I don't know. Isn't anyone here with you today?" I told her yes my dad's here with me

She told me that I could use my dad to interpret for me

That's a problem

I mean, my dad's not a perfect signer. He's not an interpreter

He only knows basic sign language and some home signs, that's it!

He's not fluent in sign language

And I need to have an interpreter that will help me with communication. Translate and sign everything what my doctor said at the same time

Because I mean, my parents don't do that. They tend to summarize and give me very little details. That's it

They don't really give me the whole information

I'm the one who's the patient, not you. I mean...

I just wanted to tell the woman that you can't always expect to be fluent in sign language. Not everyone is

Some people are lucky that they do have some people who are fluent in sign language. But again, not everyone is

I have every right to have an interpreter and I asked many times to make sure everything's confirmed

And make sure they would provide me with an interpreter. They let me know that they already ordered one for me

And apparently, they didn't

That's a huge problem

Sometimes they do provide an interpreter. Most of the time, it's good

But sometimes, they don't show up, they don't actually order one or forgot to get one

I mean that can be frustrating because if the day of your appointment comes

And you go in to confirm everything's all good to go and you ask for your interpreter

And they tell you that they didn't get you one. Like how am I supposed to communicate with a person or my doctor?

Don't get me wrong

I can lip read or write down to communicate but I just find it much easier to have an interpreter

Because I can sign and make the situation go more smooth

Not having to take up so much time, write down what you have to say, miscommunication

I mean think about it, if you have an interpreter, it would be much easier to go with the flow to be finished with the appointment

So yeah, I had to suck it up and have my dad interpret for me

He didn't really interpret the whole thing and I was like whatever

Because I did plan to have everything ready to discuss but that didn't happen

It's sad and frustrating at the same time because honestly for us deaf people

We only ask for little. We don't ask for much

And all we ask for is an interpreter because we need one so we'll be able to communicate with hearing people

I mean think about it

If you want to have this situation to go smooth as possible and if a deaf people asks for an interpreter

Or something else to accommodate that person

it's a good idea to do that because once the person comes and have their accommodations ready to go

And it will go smooth as possible

Honestly, if you don't provide the accommodation to each deaf person or others

You will have problems

Because they will have to reschedule to postpone

I mean...

That makes a lot of work to do

So yeah, that was very sad for me to see

Because like come on!

Second thing

So, a couple of days ago, this hair company Devacurl

They posted on social media saying they were looking for curly hair models

I decided why not? So I sent in some pictures of my hair

Ok so I just got an email today. They were interested in me and wanted me to come in for a couple of hours

Wow

I mean I love the hair company

I mean they're a little bit expensive

They're almost 25 dollars each product (estimate)

I mean, I'm a broke college kid. Like how am I supposed to afford them? So yeah

I was able to order some so I'm excited! It should come soon this week or next week

I'm so excited. I thought it was kinda funny because this happened. I was like hmmm?

So I'm actually flying out to Vegas in two weeks. I'm excited but at the same time, I'm not

Because last time I flew out, I had one of the worst experiences ever

I mean it was something that I didn't want to go through ever again. I was traumatized

That was actually during the same time when I flew with my dad last time when I almost got thrown off the plane

Okay so when I went through security, there was a woman

I was talking to my dad about my cochlear implant (hearing device) and wanted to make sure they knew

Then they were taken aback because obviously look at me, I'm light skinned

Because I'm not your normal standard black person. I'm actually mixed!

Obviously I was with my dad and I was talking quietly with my dad

She called me a skunk and I was completely thrown off guard

Like what the heck are you talking about? And my dad confronted her, "Don't ever call her that again"

I mean, my dad got so angry at her but backed off because he didn't want the situation to get too serious

But he was still serious about what he said

I figured it was an insult or whatever. My dad explained more about the term afterwards. I got very annoyed

I'm sorry, you may not like what you see but I'm proud to be multiethnic. I am!

I'm proud to be white. I'm proud to be black. I'm proud to be Vietnamese. I'm proud of all of these

If you ever try to oppress me down, guess what?

Here's the door. Keep things coming through the door

Because I'm not going to listen to you. Who has the time for that?

In general, my experience with flights isn't that great

Usually for me, as a deaf person and as a person who's multiethnic

I mean, I don't understand why they feel like they have to make my experience like 10 times harder than it really should be!

I mean once they find out about my parents, obviously my dad is black and my mom is white

They will be taken aback and make judgments

Sometimes some will be like, "I feel sorry for you." They will give me a lot of pity

I'm like, save it. I don't want to hear it

But now, I'm older and I'm very proud of myself. Who I am and where I come from

Because honestly if you guys try to oppress me, insult me, or degrading me

I mean honestly

All I'm going to do is sit down and listen to whatever you say

Why? Karma! Karma's the key

But sometimes I admit I do feel it inside. I get hurt but important make sure you move on from it

Because I know it's not true. I know they don't really know who I really am

I mean honestly it's their loss!

and asked me to tag along.

So that's what happened.

If you think about it, this is a very late hour for us,

but it's just in the day for those watching in Korea.

- When things are ordinary in Seoul. - We're setting our time for Carat fans.

How great is that?

Even if we turn on V LIVE at 3-4 a.m.,

- it'd just be 9 p.m. in Korea. - Right.

- Is that so? - No.

If it's 3-4 a.m. here, then it'd be 6-7 p.m. in Korea.

Joshua and Vernon, since we're in LA,

- you can speak in English. - Yeah. - They would all understand.

Yeah, so... We were originally planning to go bowling,

but there were so many people at the alley. - Way too many people.

- Way too many people. - We had to wait for an hour and 30 mins.

- It wasn't even a sure thing. - Right.

There were like a party of 11 or 12.

And we didn't know how long it was going to take, so we took a walk.

And then we came to this cafe.

- We actually walked for an hour. - Yeah, we were looking for a cafe.

And it took an hour for us to find one.

There aren't that many 24 hour open cafes.

But there are a lot of those in Korea.

How many hearts or views did you get before?

Close to 120,000 viewers. Or 130,000.

And it was close to 3 million hearts.

- We're in trouble. - Tap many hearts. - I want to win.

There might not be many who won't think about turning V LIVE on.

We can't help that.

But then before,

hi everyone on my channel I've decided

to do a vlog, now the reason I'm doing

this is because I get a lot of people

asking me on facebook, on youtube, on

Twitter about music about my life about

what I'm up to what songs are about and

I answer a lot of comments and I've even

started to I feel like I know people now

in the comments I you know I recognized

names I recognize their profile pictures

and I've decided that rather than me

tell you stuff all the time I could

show you because we live in a world

where you know I could just film

something here in my house and just

click upload and it's on YouTube and

it's as simple as that really and I've

noticed there's a lot of people on

YouTube in the United States and there

maybe this thing's in Great Britain that

you haven't seen, theres landmarks and and

stuff that I could show you I live only

30 minutes from where The Beatles were

formed, You know I could share that I

could share what it looks like and stuff

like that. So this is kind of the first

vlog I've done behind the scenes and

things but I've never spoke about my

life to the camera I've never told

people that side of me I've always kept

my online store very about music only

and I've kept my private life quite

quite private just because no particular

reason I'm just I think I like things to

be perfect before I show people anything

I like it to be

all perfect perfect and sometimes I do

think that sometimes a good thing and

then sometimes is a bad thing so this

vlog series is something I'm going to do

I'm going to try and do like a couple a

week for maybe a year hopefully I'll get

better I don't feel like like right now

I feel like just not used to talking to

a camera but maybe I will maybe I will

soon I don't know so um you know maybe

you can all help me out with this vlog

series give me some suggestions let me

know because I I can only think of what

I think you want to know about me but

maybe you could just tell me maybe

there's maybe you want to know about my

house or you want to see where I live

maybe you're a musician and you want to

know what equipment I have and how I

record songs so I'm kind of very open at

the moment to this vlog and what it's

what it's about so I'm actually sitting

here now this this is where I spend a

lot of time this is kind of like my

studio control room there's not a lot in

here I'll show you I'll take the camera

off the tripod so I've just got a light

up here this is just a little soft box

that's not normally there by the way

it's just because I'm doing this vlog so

yeah so my my life is spent in here

actually this is the erm, i just used kind of

a Mac computer I've got some very good

monitors they're called barefoot

monitors I'll put a link in the

description I'm not by the way this vlog

and my channel is not sponsored or I

don't endorse anyone

everything I do is completely

independent and I make zero money from

YouTube I don't do it for money at all

because if you did youtube for money

you'd be probably broke! So, equipment

wise this is this is pretty much it

really now I know it doesn't look much

but some of this stuff can be quite

expensive I need to turn that on actually

there you go so yeah I've just got

my kind of got my sound card I've got a

compressor that I use for vocals and a

microphone pre-amp I never use this I

should sell this really erm yeah that's one

thing as well let me just put the camera

back on tripod I never I never sell

never sell stuff I'm a bit of a hoarder

I I struggle, once i buy something I

tend to just kind of leave it in the

back room even if I don't need it just

because I think I may need it one day so

yeah this is this is why I do all my

vocals right the right over here let me

stand up that's better so yeah they're

right now sing there obviously the mics

are here, there very good mic I must

say and erm yeah that's pretty much it

really so let's put this back on the

tripod yeah that's pretty much my kind

of setup that's like I spend most of my

time in a dark room making music but I

do go out occasionally so when I go out

maybe I should take the camera and show

you why do so erm normally I start every day

with a with a cup of coffee and I tend

not to eat for a while I tend to

probably be up three or four hours

before I eat before I want food I don't

know why but that's just me so one thing

that I'm going to try and do today is a

bit of guitar practice I've been studying

guitar for about it is get it been a

really nice guitar by the way that's my

word if anyone is into guitars this is

a Martin guitar very nice got it on finance

I think I finished paying for it now

actually so I'm going to start the day

by doing guitar practice I'm currently

doing I'm doing grades that that's what I

decided to do because it kept me focused

when when you do i started doing guitar

and I just kind of looked on youtube

videos but I felt like I wasn't getting

anywhere and now I do grades because I

have a way of measuring my success which

is is something I feel like I need I

need to feel like there is a progression

or I'll probably get like bored

so that is how i'm going to start the

day i'm going to do an hour's guitar

practice which is really hard it's

really hard to be motivated to do that

but today I'm feeling motivated

The game begins when an experiment goes wrong and zaps some girl into the past.

Then our hero Chrono, a hormone driven teenage boy

decides to risk everything to save a girl he just met.

They jump through time a bit

then end up in the post-apocalyptic future to watch a dvd of armageddon with their new robot friend.

This all sounds very romantic, I wonder how Jeremey is doing right now?

After returning home they learn that the wizard Magus created Lavos, the destroyer of worlds in 600 AD.

But they need a sword made by someone in the future to defeat him

they also need a Dreamstone from 65,000,000 BC to fix it

and only Frog the frog knight can wield it.

They make the sword and fight Magus

but time explodes and brings everyone back to 65,000,000 BC.

Then Lavos falls out of space and we find out it's an alien that Magus wanted to summon, then kill.

Isn't that incredible sir?

Oh that's right, he isn't here.

Next the gang travels to 12,000 BC - a time full of magic science and happiness.

Until Lavos wakes up from a nap and kills Chrono.

His sad party members adventure a little bit without him

then arrive at the End of Time and use a Time Egg that freezes the moment right before Chrono's death, saving him.

With the team reassembled, they ignore a bunch of side quests

confront Lavos, destroy him, and save the future.

Well, I came into this video

expecting a really nice experience,

expecting lots of nice videos on me.

Instead, we got saying morgz 100,000 times, roasting morgz,

morgz diss track, morgz exposed.

It's not looking good for me.

Kennedy Space Center in a Time of Transition - Duration: 5:07.

The strong NASA presence at this year's symposium is clearly represented in our next panel,

where we have gathered six center directors who are leading NASA at a time of transition.

And to lead the discussion, we welcome Dr. David Livingston, the founder and host of

The Space Show.

Dr. Livingston, we look forward to your panel.

Dr. David Livingston: Thank you very much, and thank you also to the Space Foundation

for making this discussion possible.

We really appreciate it.

And I'd like to introduce our panel members today for the center directors' discussion,

in a time of transition.

So, Robert Cabana from Kennedy Space Center, we will have a five-minute opening statement

from each one about transition at their center.

Robert Cabana: So the Kennedy Space Center is the poster child for change during a time

of transition.

In the last six years, we have evolved to be America's premier spaceport.

This was KSC six years ago: One government program, utilizing all the facilities, paying

all the bills.

Today it's a totally different story, as we look at Boeing, SpaceX, Blue Origin.

In all of history only three nations have sent humans to space: the United States, Russia,

and China.

Today there are four United States companies -- with facilities at Kennedy Space Center

-- building hardware to send humans to space.

If you look at Blue Origin, they're building a huge facility in Exploration Park, a research

and development park at the Kennedy Space Center outside the secure perimeter, to build

the New Glenn rocket.

Of course we've got Boeing.

Boeing is located in what used to be Orbiter Processing Facility 3 and also in Orbiter

Processing Facilities 1 and 2 with the Air Force X-37 space plane.

Of course Boeing's entry into the Commercial Crew market is the CST-100 Starliner, and

they're doing a bang-up job down there building that.

If you move off to SpaceX, now you've got the Crew Dragon.

And looking out to what is Launch Complex 39A, what used to be a shuttle and Apollo

launch pad, we've now launched three commercial launches with SpaceX off that facility.

And that's where the crew is going to launch from on the Crew Dragon.

And then rounding it out, of course, we've got Lockheed Martin with the Orion spacecraft

being built in the Operations and Checkout Building high bay.

Partnership with the state of Florida refurbishing that to accommodate Lockheed Martin in there.

Then we look at the Ground Systems Development and Operations Program at Kennedy Space Center,

building the infrastructure to support the Space Launch System.

Tremendous progress has been made.

You know, if you look at SLS and what we're doing, six years ago, inside the Vehicle Assembly

Building, we had the shuttle.

Today, if you look inside High Bay 3, there are 10 adjustable platforms that support this

rocket as it evolves, easily adjustable with inserts as it grows and the outer mode line

changes.

All those platforms are installed.

It's complete.

You know the mobile launcher.

A mobile launch platform that supported shuttle -- today we have a mobile launcher supporting

SLS and a clean pad design.

Here you can see the first umbilical being installed.

All the structural work is complete, all the systems are going into it now.

This will be complete in September of this year.

The high bay will be complete in April of this year, the end of the month -- there's

still some outfitting to do.

And the launch pad, if you look out to the launch pad, it's going to be complete in August.

We're completing the flame trench right now with all of the fire brick and the new flame

deflector.

We are going to be ready when SLS arrives.

I tell my program manager, Mike Bolger, without undue pressure, that KSC will not be the reason

we don't launch on time.

[laughter]

Cabana: You know, if you look at the Kennedy Space Center, five years ago, we had a vision.

And we've made that vision a reality.

Public-private partnerships work.

We have transformed KSC.

And it's not government programs or commercial programs.

If we are going to be successful, it's government and commercial.

We need them both.

They are fully integrated for us to be successful as a nation, and Kennedy is ready to support

the future.

And I think it's an absolutely outstanding one.
