Coronation Street in trouble as complaints reach fever pitch over controversial scene

Its already been crowned the most complained about soap of the year, and it seems soap bosses have no intentions of handing over their title any time soon.

Corrie fans were left reeling when Leanne Battersby and Steve McDonald tried to get baby Olly to sleep using the controversial controlled crying method.

The soap aired the technique – which sees parents avoid comforting their crying child when trying to get them to go to sleep – last month and it didnt didnt sit well with viewers.

UPROAR: 132 people complained about a controversial scene involving Leanne and Steve.

In fact, the controversial scene racked up a whopping 132 complains to broadcasting regulator Ofcom. A spokesperson for Ofcom said: We considered complaints that this episode promoted controlled crying, a parenting method which attracts strong views.

We found the plot centred around the relationship between two characters, and did not promote a view on whether controlled crying is appropriate or effective..

CONTROVERSIAL: The couple used the controlled crying method on their son Oliver.

SAFE: Ofcom said they wont investigate any further. Ofcom Luckily for Corrie, the regulating body have decided they wont investigate the protests any further. And on top of that, Leanne and Steve are no more.

The couple – who had became parents this year in a huge mystery dad storyline – only had a short-lived relationship. Last month Steve proposed to Leanne, but they decided to call off their engagement after realising they didnt fancy each other.

OVER: Leanne and Steve ended their relationship after a few weeks. Viewers havent been too kind about the controversial scenes and have fired a mountain of objections in their direction over the past 12 months.

Back in March the ITV soap was slapped with complaints after Bethany Platt – played by Lucy Fallon – was introduced to Natan Curtis sex ring. Three months later, Corrie met further uproar when Bethany was gang raped.

Catch Coronation Street tonight at 7:30pm on ITV.

World War 3? Pakistan blasts Donald Trump as 'HOSTILE' after President threatens Islamabad - Duration: 3:24.

World War 3? Pakistan blasts Donald Trump as 'HOSTILE' after President threatens Islamabad

criticised Pakistan for allegedly harbouring agents of chaos and providing safe havens to militant groups waging an insurgency against the US-backed government in Kabul.

And he said the situation "must change immediately" as US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson warned reporters that Washington would consider cutting aid to Pakistan if things did not improve.

But the comments have been met with fury from the government, with the National Assembly now unanimously passing a resolution calling on the state to cut ground and air supply lines to the US-led NATO mission.

And hundreds of people have taken to the streets in huge protests, with many waving placards and banners - but some burned posters of Mr Trumps face in anger over his comments.

Speaking before the assembly, Pakistani Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif also urged the government to consider postponing any visits by US delegations to Pakistan or by Pakistani officials to the US.

Washington also has no choice but to use Pakistani roads to resupply its troops in landlocked Afghanistan.  And US officials worry that if Pakistan becomes an active foe, it could further destabilise Afghanistan and endanger soldiers.

Mr Asif said: "Afghanistan, the US and its allies should close their borders to leaders of terrorist, militant groups carrying out acts of terrorism against Pakistan.".

The resolution, which was adopted on Wednesday, refers to remarks made in Mr Trumps speech earlier this month announcing a new US strategy for the war in Afghanistan.  Hundreds of people have rallied against the remarks, however, saying they ignore Pakistans sacrifices in its war on terror.

It is estimated there have been 70,000 Pakistani casualties in militant attacks since it joined the war on terror after the 9/11, attacks.

But Pakistan, which borders Afghanistan, denies that it offers sanctuary to any armed groups, including the Afghan Taliban and the Haqqani Network.

A statement from the National Assembly read: The National Assembly regards President Trumps and General Nicholsons statements on Pakistan as hostile and threatening.".

The allies wrapped up their annual joint military exercises today.

The eleven-day...

Ulchi Freedom Guardian, or UFG,...began last Monday.

In the past, North Korea made threats against Seoul and Washington during their combined

exercises and this year was no exception.

On Tuesday, Pyongyang fired an intermediate-range ballistic missile, claming it was a 'show-of-force'

against the drills.

This year's UFG involved some 50-thousand South Korean and 17-and-a-half thousand U.S.

troops..., along with some 3-thousand UN Command forces from seven nations.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain REJECTS £40m switch to Chelsea as he wants to move to Liverpool - Duration: 2:33.

Arsenal star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain REJECTS £40m switch to Chelsea as he wants to move to Liverpool

ALEX OXLADE-CHAMBERLAIN has turned down a move to Chelsea, as he prefers to join Premier League rivals Liverpool.

The Blues are believed to have agreed a £40million fee with Arsenal for the midfielder, but Oxlade-Chamberlain is digging his heels in the hope of a move to Anfield.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could be on his way out of Arsenal for Chelsea or Liverpool.

The Arsenal midfielder is currently on England duty for their upcoming clash against Malta on Friday. After some thinking-time, the England man turned down a switch to Stamford Bridge.

And SunSport understands Liverpool have made an offer of around £30m for Oxlade-Chamberlain, which has already been rejected by Arsenal. Oxlade-Chamberlain, 24, was still with England at their St George's Park base last night — having NOT requested permission to leave for Chelsea talks.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp wants to play the former Southampton ace in central midfield, which is his preferred position. But Stamford Bridge manager Antonio Conte sees the versatile star as a wing-back.

There are fears Liverpool could miss out on The Ox because of the bad blood between them and Arsenal.

Jurgen Klopp, pictured here on the left, is an admirer of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Antonio Conte could be set to miss out on the signing of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. The fallout dates back to 2013 and the Gunners' cheeky attempt to trigger Luis Suarez's release clause — with a bid of £40million plus £1.

The Ox has already rejected a new deal worth £180,000 a week at the Emirates and is now in the final year of his contract. But there is still a chance he may see out this season with Arsene Wenger's side.

Daniel Sturridge feels "as sharp as ever" after scoring 1st Liverpool goal of 2017/18 - Duration: 2:51.

Daniel Sturridge feels "as sharp as ever" after scoring 1st Liverpool goal of 2017/18

Daniel Sturridge insists he feels as sharp as ever and is looking forward to the rest of the season but will not get carried away by Liverpool's impressive start.

Sunday's 4-0 demolition of Arsenal, in which the England international scored his first goal of the season, was the club's fourth successive win in all competitions to remain unbeaten.

After dealing with more nagging injuries in the previous campaign and a delayed start to this one because of a minor thigh problem, Sturridge believes he is now fully fit.

And with those issues resolved he has regained his place in Gareth Southgate's squad for World Cup qualifiers against Malta and Slovakia.

"I feel as sharp as ever, I'm ready to go. I had a great pre-season, felt really good and I'm looking forward to the future to be honest with you," he told LiverpoolFC.com.

"I feel great, it's the best I've felt for a long time, and I'm looking forward to this season. "It's the nature of football—sometimes you feel great, sometimes you don't feel great.

Eight goals in their last two games, having beaten Hoffenheim 4-2 in their Champions League play-off second leg, has raised expectations Liverpool can reproduce the form of a year ago which saw them race to the top of the Premier League in November.

However, this time around they have the Champions League to deal with and Sturridge insists that is why they cannot get carried away.

"For me, I always go from the humble aspect, which is don't get too excited so early in the season," he added. "I think everybody outside of the players has made the judgement on how far they believe we can go.

"We're quietly confident, but it's important not to get excited because in football things can change.

"With one or two results and you're out of the running sometimes, and you saw from last season that teams who might not necessarily have started well ended well.

"So it's important for us to pace ourselves, take one game at a time, not get excited.

Arsene Wenger in £90m Thomas Lemar offer as Gunners final get serious | Arsenal FC News Now transfer - Duration: 1:49.

Arsenal have lodged a surprise £90million offer for Monaco winger Thomas Lemar.

The Gunners have been trailing 21-year-old for much of the summer and have had three

bids rejected.

Emirates boss Arsene Wenger had claimed the deal was 'dead'.

But it is now very much alive.

Liverpool, who also had a £57.4million offer rebuffed, were also keen on Lemar.

Should Wenger's side clinch the deal, Alexis Sanchez's move to Manchester City would get

given the green light, reports the Mirror.

City tabled a second bid for the Chilean international at lunchtime after having their opening gambit

of £50million rejected by the Gunners yesterday.

It is understood that the increased offer – which will see City pay £55million up

front and another £5million in add-ons – is deemed acceptable by Arsenal.

But the London club are waiting to see if their £90million offer for Lemar is accepted

before doing a deal with the Manchester club.

Harvard-Trained Central Banker Uses Meditation as Risks Rise - Duration: 2:29.

Harvard-Trained Central Banker Uses Meditation as Risks Rise

A sluggish economy under military rule, market turmoil

following the king's death -- and now, Donald Trump.

These are on a growing list of risks faced by Thailand's

central bank governor in his first year in office.

His way of keeping it all balanced: meditation.

As a devout Buddhist, Veerathai Santiprabhob meditates

daily for about half an hour and spends an even longer time

on weekends sitting in solitude.

"You need to have peace of mind in a very volatile world,"

Veerathai said.

The 46-year-old economist with a doctorate from Harvard University

has kept interest rates unchanged near a record-low since he took

office in October.

"When the party gets going, you have to do the things people

might not like because you take a different time horizon," he said.

Meditation gives "you strength to do what

you think is needed to be done."

Veerathai, the son of a former police chief, said stable policy

was needed to keep risky behavior in check among indebted consumers

and businesses and save ammunition for next year, if there's a marked

downturn in trade.

Veerathai said he wants to maintain stability, and moderation

-- a key practice of his spiritual beliefs -- is essential

to achieving that.

"We want to ensure the long-term stability for the economy, and

the principal of moderation is the key," he said.

"The concept of Buddhism that I practice, and I have

very much benefited from, is one of moderation."

Grey's Anatomy' Is Sara Ramirez Returning As Callie In Season 14 - Duration: 2:28.

Grey's Anatomy': Is Sara Ramirez Returning As Callie In Season 14?!

OMG!

Is another 'Grey's Anatomy' alum returning to the ABC series for its upcoming Season

14?

First Kim Raver and now Sara Ramirez?!

Find out here, as EP Debbie Allen just spilled the tea!

While we would love to report the opposite, currently, "there are no plans at the moment"

for Sara Ramirez to return as Callie in Grey's Anatomy's upcoming 14th season, executive

producer Debbie Allen told our sister site, TVLine.

Then, Debbie added, "We love her and we miss her," so maybe there's hope for the

future?

But like we said, don't hold your breath for a Season 14 return.

"There's been no discussion of it" at this time, Debbie concluded

We have to admit, now would have been the perfect time for Sara to return to Grey's

Anatomy.

Especially if she and Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) were ever going to consider getting back together.

Marika Dominczyk, who played Arizona's most recent love interest, Eliza Minnick — will

not be back for Season 14, TVLine also reports.

This means, Arizona will be single and ready to mingle when Season 14 premieres on Sept.

28.

It's unclear if Callie's still dating Penny, but who ever really cared about that

relationship anyway?

As you'll recall, Eliza was fired in the Season 13 finale.

In her final scene, she told Arizona about her termination.

We never saw them break up, but the couple's split "is going to be addressed" in the

two-hour premiere, Debbie confirmed.

"It's very interesting how we address it."

As for Sara Ramirez, Callie made her final appearance in the Season 12 finale of Grey's

Anatomy, when she relocated to New York to live with her girlfriend, Penny.

At the time, the actress said, "I'm deeply grateful to have spent the last 10 years with

my family at Grey's Anatomy and ABC, but for now, I'm taking some welcome time off.

[Series creator] Shonda [Rhimes has] been so incredible to work for, and we will definitely

continue our conversations."

#CHELSEA SHOULD ENTRUST THIS DEFENDER AS ALONSO'S DEPUTY - Duration: 2:37.

CHELSEA SHOULD ENTRUST THIS DEFENDER AS ALONSO'S DEPUTY

Chelsea supporters in the Transfer Tavern are waiting expectantly for news of new arrivals at Stamford Bridge.

Our resident Blues fans are aware that their squad is somewhat depleted and they're hopeful that the club will conclude several deals before the conclusion of the summer transfer window.

One area of the pitch in which the blues are severely depleted is at wing-back. As things stand, the Champions have yet to acquire the services of another wing-back to accompany Marcos Alonso and Victor Moses.

While Conte's need for an RWB is palpable, our landlord believes he should look from within his ranks to provide Marcos Alonso with protection on the left flank.

Abdul Baba Rahman is still recovering from a Cruciate Ligament Rupture he sustained while on loan at Schalke last season, he could be the perfect deputy for Marcos Alonso.

The Ghanaian international registered 23 appearances for Chelsea in the 2015/16 season, before being loaned out to Schalke last season. Despite struggling to assert himself as an established member of Chelsea's first-team, he did display glimpses of brilliance.

The 23-year-old is a superb crosser of the ball, and he shows great willingness when going forward. In addition to his attacking qualities, Baba is a terrific tackler, and he's also brilliant at retrieving possession by intercepting the ball.

If Antonio Conte fails to acquire the services of two wing-backs before the conclusion of the transfer window, our landlord believes that Baba is a more than capable deputy to Alonso. Given the right guidance, he could thrive.
