I think it's a first! I don't think anybody has done this kind of interview on Instagram

Tell me how are you?
I am very excited to finally be doing an East European Tour
It's in a couple of weeks
We're with the band on the last bits, having fun doing that
and being very exited
We are excited too to have you back here in Romania
You were like in 2012 if I remember well, at B'estFest
Long time ago, yeah
Six years ago, wow!
But I'm pretty sure that it'll be fantastic because I do remember
The Romanian audience being just great. We are still talking about it actually
So this should be a party
So tell me about technology, because we are connected
Where are you now? In the Netherlands?
Yes, I am here in the office, at Grandmono
You can see those are my colleagues. They're really not interested [laughs]
So this is where we do everything this is where we discuss the new shows and we talk about new music
and yeah, it's a big team is our own record label
And yeah, it's it's just great to be working with these people and feeling very inspired
Tell me what do you think about technology right now? I heard that
Jack Black wants to ban al telephones from his concerts!
What do you think about this?
Jack Black is prohibited to use phones during the concerts?
Jack White, sorry
Well, I understand
Of course it's nice to be recording what ever you experience during a day
I also feel like when I'm having a good dinner
I want to make a photograph of it
If I hear good music I want to record it, but at the same time it refrains you from actually
Having the experience and what I experience as an artist is
When I'm standing on stage
people are sometimes just
Recording me instead of actually looking
And I only see phones
So that also, for me is not such a nice experience
I like to see people's faces I like to see people's smiles and them singing along and dancing and if I see phones
That's just a bit different so uhm I understand
But we recommend people not to use them that much
Maybe one picture, one instastory and then enjoy the concert
Something like that, yeah!
Tell me about this new album, what motivates you to do this kind of music?
Why don't you do pop music, I don't know...
Wow well you are talking about Emerald Island?
Or are you talking about the other EP?
Okay
Well, what motivates me is you know?
I think, well me and my producers, if you listen to music these days
I don't want to say that it's bad, because there's a lot of good music
But it's a lot of the same isn't it? And I sometimes when I listen to the radio
I am so bored because everything sounds the same, and I just want to make something that is different
And I think the emotion in music is most important and the atmosfere
So what we like is to bring back the
nostalgic feeling that they had when in the old days you know when they would record music
they would actually be in the same room together
You know when you play an old record you just know it's an old record this same as when you are
looking at an old building or you are walking in an old building
You just know it's an old building, right?
That is a magic thing that we just want to grab in the music
I think that's a good thing about all things
It has a soul, so that motivates me to make that kind of music and the newest album that we made
we're always looking into something that gives us a certain atmosfere
You know, like for the first album that was like Hollywood Swing Jazz
And for this...
It was a crazy ideea from one of my producers
because one of my parents, my mother is from The Caribbean.
Actually from a tropical island so the idea was to
Create you know music around that and they're very this music genre called exotica, and it's all about
Wandering off about thinking about going away to faraway places that you've never been before
Emerald Island is a far away place where you get to dream away
from your chair and we are bringing you that with our music
Did you know that Emerald Island really exists?
Actually it doesn't exist...
It's some kind of a phantom island because there was a ship long time ago that discovered this island is around
It's around New Zealand. There's a story really funny story about this you should look it up on Wikipedia
Yeah I should! OMG, we have to go there!
I don't know if we can find it because
It's like.. exist and doesn't exist. I don't know how to say it
It's just as magical as my album
Exactly, just as magic as the album
What should be expect on this tour to see on your show?
Well as I mentioned it's like you are sitting from your chair
I'm taking you to Emerald Island
so
Tropical sounds I have a percussionist now in my band so that will definitely support that feeling
I'm bringing seven guys, and they're all multi-instrumentalists
so then the nice thing I think about my music is there is a lot of detailing
there's a lot of different sounds, different instruments
each song has their own mood
And I try to get that across by by changing the instruments every song as well
each song is different and another thing about my show
is that there's a lot to listen to and also a lot to watch
we have three great visuals that really gets you into the Island Spirit
and during the show we are also building it up
So there's lots of songs to really listen to, very intimate,
But there's also really big songs and songs that will definitely make you want to stand up and dance with us
So at the end, I think, I hope that everybody will go home
thinking they have been to Emerald Island, a great place of partying
Now you really got me excited
