Jose Mourinho fears Manchester United will not sanction Gareth Bale transfer
Jose Mourinho has told friends that he does not believe Manchester United will sanction a record move for Gareth Bale due to a variety of concerns, according to reports.
The Welshman put on a man-of-the-match performance in the Champions League final, scoring twice against Liverpool, but made even more headlines when he intimated that he would consider leaving Real Madrid in the summer due to a lack of game time.
Bale has lost his place in Zinedine Zidane's starting XI this season and was only named on the bench in Kiev, with plenty of European giants alerted to his predicament.
Manchester United are chief among them, and it has been suggested that Old Trafford is Bale's preferred destination should he decide to leave the Bernabeu.
However, The Mirror report that Mourinho has significant doubts about United's willingness to sanction a deal that would cost around £336 million in total.
Real will demand a world-record £200 million transfer fee for Bale – eclipsing the £198 million PSG paid for Neymar last summer – while his £650,000-a-week wages would work out at £136 million over a four-year deal.
But with Bale turning 29 in July, United bosses fear it is too big an outlay for a player who has struggled to live up to expectations in Madrid and has a long history of injuries – especially so soon after making Alexis Sanchez the highest paid player in the country.
Mourinho is a long-time fan of Bale and tried to prise him away from Real last summer, and he is once again desperate to sign the Welshman following his come-and-get-me-plea after the Champions League final.
But if Mourinho is to get his man, United will need to negotiate a far lower transfer fee for Bale while the winger himself will need to accept a pay cut to return to the Premier League.

Real Madrid will announce Mauricio Pochettino as Zidane's replacement in 'coming days' - Duration: 2:46.
Zidane today announced that he will leave Real after two-and-a-half years at the club
The 45-year-old called an unexpected press conference, where he broke the news of his decision to quit
And according to Spanish news outlet Don Balon, Tottenham's Pochettino is set to be Zidane's replacement
They say the Spurs boss could be announced as the new Real boss in the coming days
Don Balon sensationally claim that Pochettino, who penned a new five-year deal at Spurs last week, has a clause in his contract that he can move to Real or PSG if they want him
Real will reportedly contact Tottenham in the coming days to open talks over signing Pochettino
Speaking about his decision to quit Real, Zidane said: "I spoke to him [Perez] to explain a little what I was thinking at the moment
"First for me, the squad, the club I think it's a bit of a weird moment but an important one that is good for everyone
"What I think is that this team needs to continue winning but I think it needs a change, a different voice, another methodology and that's why I took this decision
"I love this club and the president who gave me the chance to play for this club and manage the club of my dreams
"But everything changes and that's why I've taken the decision to leave."After doing three years, it's the right decision
I understand, and what I can do is thank the fans not only as a coach but as a player they have always supported me
"I have a special love for this fanbase. I thank you all for your support and there are difficult times when there are whistles but that is part of this club
"I think at times the players need it, when you have a difficult time you have to front up occasionally
When the fans spur us on, that's important."

Don't Worry, God Will Take Care of Your Tomorrow | Bayless Conley - Duration: 1:12.
In Matthew 6:34 Jesus said: "Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry
about its own things.
Sufficient for the day is its own trouble."
It says if God has put a 24-hour fuse in our heart and when you worry about tomorrow today
you are putting a 48-hour load on a 24-hour fuse.
We used to have an air conditioning unit in one of our homes.
There would be just a surge of too much electricity and the fuse was continually blowing and I
was always having to replace that fuse on that air conditioning unit.
And the thing is when you worry about tomorrow today you´re putting that 48-hour load on
a 24-hour fuse and something is going to blow it.
It will erupt in your marriage, it will erupt in broken health.
Just one day in a time.
God will take care of tomorrow.
Some people are not just worrying about tomorrow, they are worrying about next week, next month
and there´s huge problems arising because of it.
Listen, your Father cares for you.
Cast your care on Him and He will sustain you.
You are loved by God.

Google Pixel 3 XL news Will plus size smartphone feature iPhone X's best design ● News Now ● #TECH - Duration: 2:59.
GOOGLE rumours suggest the tech giant could copy competitor Apple's iPhone X by adding
a notch to at least one of its new Pixel 3 smartphones.
Google is expected to announce its new Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL Android smartphones this
year which could come with a new notch screen design, for at least one of them.
A set of leaked screen protectors, allegedly for the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, show one phone
with a top notch display and one without.
The larger Google Pixel 3 XL is the model expected to feature a full edge-to-edge screen
and a top notch while the smaller Pixel 3 should come with top and bottom bezels instead.
The leak suggests that the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL should retain the excellent dual front
facing cameras and stereo front-firing speakers of the Pixel 2.
This supports previous rumours that Google would introduce its own version of Apple's
iPhone X Face ID as a way to add advanced facial recognition as a means of biometric
security.
There is also a possibility that an under-screen fingerprint reader will be introduced on one
of the phones, although this tech is allegedly still struggling in development.
Another rumour suggests there may be no notch or bezels at all, from information revealed
in Google's Android P mobile operating system.
Though this seems unlikely as the device would struggle to fit in a front facing camera,
sensors or earpiece speaker.
Other rumours suggest the new Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL will feature 18:9 OLED screens
made by LG.
Last year LG made the Pixel 2 XL while HTC manufactured the Pixel 2.
Google launched its previous Pixel phones around October so the Pixel 3 could be due
for a similar release date in 2018.
There have also been murmurings of a cheaper Pixel 3 alternative that could arrive as early
as August.
Also like the OnePlus 6, the new Pixel 3 phones are expected to run Qualcomm's Snapdragon
845 processors.
The most likely upgrade comes in the form of the new Android 9.0 P.
Google uses the Pixel phone launch each year to roll out its new mobile operating system
and that should be no different this year.

Royal wedding 2018: Will Princess Eugenie wear the York Tiara - given to Sarah Ferguson? - Duration: 2:44.
Princess Eugenie of York, who is eighth in line to the throne, will tie the knot with finance Jack Brooksbank on October 12, 2018
The pair will wed at St George's Chapel, in the grounds of Windsor Castle, which is the same location as Meghan Markle and Prince Harry got married
The granddaughter of the Queen got engaged in Nicaragua in January. .She met the 31-year-old, who was the manager of Mayfair hotspot Maliki, through mutual friends during a ski-trip to Verbier seven years ago
The 28-year-old is the youngest daughter of Prince Andrew, Duke of York, and Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York
Princess Eugenie is tipped to wear the same York Tiara her mother wore during her 1986 wedding
Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip are thought to have given Sarah the diamond-studded headpiece as a wedding gift
Commissioned from Mayfair jewellers Gerrard & Co, the tiara is made up of diamond-covered leaves and diamond collets mounted in platinum, according to The Royal Order of Sartorial Splendour blog
The tiara came with a matching set of jewellery including a bracelet, earrings and a necklace
This was reportedly a rarity as English Queens traditionally gift their daughters-in-law with pieces from their own existing collections
Sarah has worn it on several other occasions, including Elton John's White Tie and Tiara Ball
She also donned it for a banquet in Canada and a 1988 tour of Australia. Her wedding will be the first time is officially allowed to wear a tiara
Royal protocol reportedly only allows women to wear tiaras if they are married. .However, they are allowed to show off their tiaras the morning of their big day, which Kate Middleton did on her wedding day in 2011
As a result, Princess Eugenie will be able to walk down the aisle and take pre-wedding selfies in her mother's headpiece

Ingraham:Will CONGRESS make progress on IMMIGRATION? - Duration: 19:27.
sorry I love that montage let's discuss this in tonight's angle with the
chairman of the American Conservative Union Matt slap Matt I'm not laughing
through your name I'm sorry I'm gonna love the last we're not gonna be stupid
anymore radio host former aide to Senator Chuck
Schumer Chris Hahn another favorite of mine great to see both of you all right
great let's take it away Chris on this the president obviously taking a strong
stand on the immigration issue tonight the Democrats I think know they have
some vulnerability here on the ms-13 issue the unaccompanied minor issue as I
pointed out in the angle Obama was sending back people even The Huffington
Post with this great headline from The Huffington Post this is from March of
last year the hard truths about Obama's deportation priorities from 2009 to 2015
56% of all immigrants removed from the country had no criminal convictions
preliminary data from 2016 when Obama was still in office suggest that this
trend of deporting non criminals continued goes on and on and obviously
had to deal with the unaccompanied minors that he claimed was we're gonna
be sent back and only 3.4 percent of them were ever deported I don't think it
was great on immigration I've said that before I'll say it again I think that he
probably could have worked with Congress to have comprehensive immigration reform
in his first term and he didn't and and that's a failure of President Obama but
that doesn't excuse what's going on right now now I understand that the
story about people being children being lost is a little bit overblown they
can't get in touched I get that part but there is still this bit where Jeff
sessions is separating children from their family families when those
families are coming here through regular ports of entry seeking asylum and that I
have a problem with and I think most Americans who have any compassion would
have a problem with that so do you think that criminals should be separated from
their families because they are every minute I guess they know that I think
that yeah but to criminalize people seeking asylum is where I draw the line
here okay seekers may we have a dude I want you Matt to chime in and we have
a duty to take care of children at a different way than we take care of
adults I mean that's from the Flores decision the judges and so forth putting
that burden on the American government that's fine that's what we do but part
of that is separating children from people who are trying to game the system
sessions was very clear on this otherwise we're just going to have a
massive flood of family units we don't even know if they're actual families
half the time family units crossing the border Matt yeah this is what happened
Obama did not follow the law when an adult crosses our border illegally he or
she is breaking the law the Attorney General has no choice but to follow the
law and what Chris and other Democrats are saying is that as we take the adult
and put them into custody which means they go to jail that somehow the kids
should go to jail too that would be insane and inhumane and as a country
thing we simply do not do that when Kamala Harris and these other folks who
have also had the job of Attorney General in their states it would be it
would be the same thing as saying that she has been separating parents from
their children in California when parents commit crimes anybody who's had
this like that for that position it'd be the same thing you're labored no I'm not
it's the same it's a crime as you are when you commit a crime you go to a
holding facility it's the way it is Matt Chris Matt the difference here is that
the Trump administration has decided to treat Asylum applicants as criminals and
that is what I have a problem with getting constant consequence no no we're
your regular ports of entry who generous importa guard sessions has said he will
treat as criminals hold on Matt it's not just it's not just people applying for
asylum we're all thinking about the cylon because the great care of man that
showed up in San Diego it's all people remember Obama and jeh Johnson said in
those clips that I think nobody remembers I play him all the time on my
radio show they both said don't bring our children here we can't we can't
process this and you're gonna have to go home both of them said that neither of
them follow through and all but 3.4 percent of the people who crossed our
border ill not playing for asylum crossed our
border illegally for all those years three point four percent were deported
now this is a what President Obama was doing by those statements was trying to
discourage mass immigration children to the country which is what's a baby out
of his mother's farm and worried about ripping babies away from mothers alright
let's let's talk about the illegal immigrant wife who was interviewed on
CNN today about whether she was upset about her husband being deported let's
watch I am not upset at our government due to the fact that I am a US citizen
and that our laws come first our laws are just broken and need to be fixed but
I can't be mad at Trump for doing his job Chris how many women did you have to
act how many immigrant women did you have to interview to get that clip
I got enough truth over there at CNN no one's watching but occasionally they
actually find someone had some common sense to put on there and her point her
point is that Obama her point is that Donald Trump is actually following the
law if you're here illegally as Jay Johnson said you don't have permiso
he said we're not gonna give you a sir miss jaan you're not gonna get it
because you're thought you're violating our laws Chris guard I get that I you
know look again I believe in law and order I believe in proper immigration we
have all failed in creating a system where we have an immigration that
addresses the markets that are driving people this country every single day all
right we gotta get electively to come to a solution all right well I agree with
you on that thank you both fantastic segment let's
get the perspective of Senator Mike Lee of Utah whose new book out in paperback
just today is already a huge New York Times bestseller it's on my facebook and
website written out of history that forgotten founders who fought big
government welcome senator as always it's great to see you I think our
founders would shocked to see what's happened to this
country obviously a whole different situation in our country's founding but
you heard this debate we just had you heard the statistics President Obama
said these people are gonna have to go home then they all get to stay there
relocated to sponsor senator and then we're trying to we're trying to check it
on them the sponsors a lot of them are going on you know off the grid because
they don't want to be deported they don't want the kids to be deported so
it's all it's a perverse system we've set up that's exactly what's bringing
these people here that's exactly why these children are being separated from
their parents because we had a government that refused to enforce the
law and a government that said we will deport you and then didn't when that
happens you end up being a magnet for illegal immigration that subjects all
kinds of children to exploitation to abuse to sexual assault in many cases
but make no mistake that is the cause approximately 90% of all removal orders
that means deportation orders each year result from a failure of for people to
show up at their hearings so they're there their order removed because they
don't show up for their actual immigration hearings that's 90% of the
unaccompanied minors are not showing up at hearings so they come here they know
they're gonna be able to stay here what is the Senate and the house cooking up I
keep hearing about the administration's gonna come out and agree to an amnesty
with an end to chain migration kind of sounds like good lad but it's not quite
the gut Bob Goodlatte bulb bill what's going on there I would love to see it be
there Bob Goodlatte bill I think Bob Goodlatte has done a remarkable job of
balancing various competing interests I hope they're not coming up with
something like what they cooked up in 2013 remember how they told us they were
coming up with a deal he was rumored for many months years in fact that they were
working on it and they finally released it and it was about a thousand pages
worth of something that nobody had read people voted for it anyway and then they
switched it when it when it got to a final vote and replaced it with a
different 1,200 page bill I fear here they might be doing the same thing and I
think they should remember the consequence of that freedom caucus
doesn't want it they've already come out and said your day Bradley these guys we
don't want we don't want an amnesty but can you get something positive if me if
you could end this chain migration that is a huge amplifier of of immigration in
the country non merit-based that would be a big that's that's a
bigger driver of the growth and immigration is it not than even illegal
immigration absolutely absolutely and that's one of the things I like about
the Goodlatte proposal is that it addresses that it addresses the daca
situation it does so in a responsible manner that shuts off the magnet I want
to ask you about this other news over the last few days that when is spying
spying your colleague Marco Rubio said something I think interesting on ABC's
this week I'd like your reaction let's watch it appears that there was an
investigation not of the campaign but of certain individuals who have a history
that we should be suspicious of that predate the presidential campaign of
2015 2016 the FBI who is in charged of counterintelligence investigations
should look at people like that but they're not investigated in the campaign
they're investigating those people so you see President Trump was wrong I have
seen no evidence that there that those people were a part of an investigation
on the campaign your reaction his final statement might be true as far as it
goes he may have seen no evidence of any spying on the Trump campaign it doesn't
mean it didn't happen and I think it's very difficult to prove
that a dog didn't bark I don't think he's saying the dog didn't bark what
he's saying he hasn't it seems like Rubio you got to play a sound bite later
on from trey Gowdy there are a lot of Republicans who seem to be working
overtime a lot of them didn't support the president working overtime to you
know build up Bob Muller the Bob Muller team and I think that from the very
beginning there have been a lot of people who have been very surprised
about that senator it's great to see it was always Congrats on the book great
great read as always and Andy McCarthy is here next to tell us why there is now
no doubt that Team Obama spied on the Trump campaign and more from the FBI
agents who want to testify about how politics is destroying the bureau that's
next
in today's national review Andy McCarthy says there's absolutely no question that
the Obama administration spied on the Trump campaign but the New York Times is
trying to deflect from that news tonight with new information leaked from the DOJ
suggesting that the president wanted Jeff Sessions to Unruh cues himself from
the Russia probe and take control of it joining us now for reaction former
federal prosecutor Andy McCarthy along with attorney and Democratic strategist
Scott Bolden all right Andy a lot to get to here there are a lot of people coming
out Rubio and now others and trey Gowdy saying mm this whole thing about spying
is kind of ridiculous let's watch I am even more convinced that the FBI did
exactly what my fellow citizens would want them to do when they got the
information they got and that it has nothing to do with Donald Trump I think
when the president finds out what happened he's going to be not just fine
he's going to be glad that we have an FBI that took seriously what they heard
he was never the target Russia to me I got lots of text on my phone tonight
going what's wrong with trey gowdy by the way
huffing he's perfect by the way trey gowdy we want you to come on the show
and he's never been on this show we want him to come on maybe now I know why he's
not coming on what what's your sensor well look there's no question that they
spied on the campaign he says Rubio I mean a lot of people are saying that
just never Andy Napolitano Judge Napolitano on Fox tonight know what
they're saying was what they think what the FBI did was appropriate so what
they're saying is they had these guys who they had concerns about who had some
Russia baggage and it was appropriate for the FBI to check that out I don't
think anyone in his right mind would disagree with that the question is how
you go about doing that well he's saying they're saying it was Russia that they
were looking at Russia and Russia trying to meddle with our system didn't matter
whether it was you know it would a Democrat that would have done the same
thing no it happened to be Trump had this Carter page on his list and that's
what Laura if you were looking at a corporation and you thought that the
corporation was being corrupted by three people you would go to the CEO and say I
think we have a problem he we need your cooperation what they did
instead was send covert operatives to pry information out now it may well be
that President Trump himself would then Donald Trump was not person why didn't
they do the defensive briefing Scott Bolden why didn't the Obama
administration having this deep concern that they had about Russia why didn't
they go to you know the head of the campaign or why didn't I go to the bend
it was Paul Manafort it's not gonna go to him but why didn't I go to president
Trump if I'm doing a candidate investigations for company I'll use your
example I'm not starting at the top I'm starting at the source and what they did
with this informant was went and talked and did outreach to two or three leaders
in the campaign to test not whether Trump was colluding with Russia but
whether Russia was doing outreach to the Trump campaign how deep they may have
gotten in there and what would you want the FBI to do unless you put a political
overlay on it they're doing their job the target was Russia they were trying
to protect Americans and now the GOP would criticize this institution as if
it's in some type of deep state even in 2017 and cool with this if it was the
Obama campaign I would have been cool with it the FBI are you ma cracy and
doing their job be up dare us the FBI goes the FBI goes the bush 2008 Justice
Department and FBI send informants into the into the Obama 2008 campaign Obama
no no go into the campaign you're fine with that maybe it is the least
intrusive means that they could pursue if they were going to go into a campaign
but see you all put a political overlay on it you say this is politics but
that's okay and you wrote this in your piece today and you talked about how
it's an odd thing and it was a great point it's an odd thing given the fact
that Obama wanted to have more flexibility with Dmitry Medvedev
that Clinton got the 500k speech in Moscow that the Podesta group pals of
the Clintons represented spheres Bank which is that Putin's favorite Bank like
all this stuff happened got uranium won all this stuff happened but now they're
gonna they're worried that Trump is gonna have be too close to Russia that
kind of is that's just an odd thing I hadn't
thought of it in that way before I read your piece we're up until 11 o'clock on
November 8th Carter page was a conventional Democrat
I personally find his beliefs about Russia to be ridiculous too offensive
but his belief is appeasing Putin is the best way to better well wait just like
we have a relationship with Communist China that has like 17 times the economy
of Russia we should have a relationship with Russia that's what I know but I
think you me whatever you want to say even to be and the Clintons can be
whatever you want them to say them to be but what does that have to do with
putting an informant in place to investigate Russia this isn't about the
Clintons this is about by October of 2016 we knew that there were substantial
contacts between the Trump bytes or people in the Trump campaign and the in
Russia way too much for a political campaign
we know that the former CIA director said his mother there's just as many
contacts with the Clinton campaign Hillary Clinton all of her friends yeah
Eddie made during that campaign though substantial cock Obama's committee and
foreign investment if you talk we're gonna be completely anyway we gotta get
to the FBI informant issue but what's the deal tonight Andy with the New York
Times story comes out I think as this Russia collusion thing is collapsing the
informant thing people just don't like the feel of that but on the on the issue
of Trump wanting sessions to Unruh cues himself that doesn't surprise me at all
I don't find that surprising that he if he told his White House Counsel this
ridiculous he told when he talked to a kiss lyac for five minutes in his office
why the heck is Reid accusing him we didn't have any to do with Russia and he
may be told McGann this if this story is true McGann talked to sessions people
and it didn't go anywhere but this was leaked tonight another leak out of the
DOJ your reaction you're turning the page but you know look at the time this
happened I thought that sessions recusal was
too broad and an overreaction because it didn't comply with the regulations of
the Justice Department which are the same ones that that sort of apply to
Muller as well and you know I know everybody wants to look at this as an
investigation president Trump has to look at this as this affects my ability
to govern that's why this special counsel is such a terrible institution
and it's been a terrible institution to every president of either party that
it's ever been I think there's a lot to do I mean and everyone's Russia is a
boogeyman I think every time someone says Russia I say China China is a much
bigger threat to the United States I think there are times where we could
triangulate China with Russia and now we're not doing that I think we're not

How Princess Eugenie's Royal Wedding will ECHO Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's - Duration: 4:19.
The couple will marry in the same chapel as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in October, and there may be a few other similarities to look out for
Eugenie's father Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, announced the wedding will take place on October 12 in St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle
Prince George and Princess Charlotte are likely to become a page boy and bridesmaid for the couple, just like they were for uncle Harry on May 19
The pair first performed the duty at their aunt Pippa Middleton's wedding in May last year
Just a year later, Prince George and Princess Charlotte stole the hearts of millions again with their charm and adorable outfits
James Brookes, of Royal Central, told Express.co.uk Eugenie and Jack's wedding will most likely be broadcast as well
He said: "Although Eugenie and Jack aren't as high in the line of succession as Harry and Meghan, they're young and because of the likelihood of those famous faces, broadcasters would be missing a trick by not covering it
"It's unlikely to secure the same viewing figures as Harry and Meghan's wedding, but people will still be interested as the Royal Family will be attending and that on its own draws a crowd
"Just look at when the Wessexes (Prince Edward and Sophie) married in 1999; around 200 million tuned in for that
There's definitely a market for the broadcasters to take advantage of.".Mr Brookes also thinks there will similar royal procession, although they may not opt for an open-top carriage considering the unpredictable the British weather
He said: "I think it's a strong possibility. If they do, the blueprint for it is likely to be similar to Harry and Meghan and The Wessexes ie. one carriage and not as much fuss as William and Kate."
It wouldn't surprise me if Eugenie and Jack forego the carriage in favour of a car considering the British weather in October
"In terms of the weddings guests, Mr Brookes says the wedding will be a little more low key and intimate compared to Prince Harry and Meghan's, which oozed glamour with A-list guests such as Oprah Winfrey, Serena Williams and Amal and George Clooney
He said: "I'd say Eugenie's guest list will be smaller than Harry and Meghan's."That's not to say Eugenie's won't be any less star-strewn
"She and Jack know their fair share of celebrities, so I'd definitely expect to see some famous faces at their wedding
"Princess Eugenie is the only royal with a personal Instagram account and one of the 18 people she follows is Ellie Goulding, who is also friends with Prince Harry, and the singer does follow her back
The soon-to-be newlyweds' wedding falls on Friday, which breaks a long-standing of tradition of wedding ceremonies being on the weekend
It is unlikely there will be a bank holiday for their wedding considering Britons didn't get one for Prince Harry and Meghan's big day
Wedding well-wishers may get a glimpse at Prince Louis as he was still a newborn during the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's wedding
The newest prince will be just under six-months-old when next Royal wedding comes around
More details of Princess Eugenie and Mr Brooksbank's wedding are expected to be revealed in the coming months

F-35 sanctions will push Turkey closer to Putin | Wikileaks - Duration: 4:36.
U.S. Congressional attempts to block delivery of F-35 warplanes to Turkey is another sign
that lawmakers on Capitol Hill don't really know what they are doing.
Indeed, they only help fueling Turkish distrust and anger of Washington and push Turkey further
toward Russia, which, unsurprisingly, makes Putin extremely happy.
Sensing the opportunity, last week Putin confronted the American discourse and backed President
Erdoğan's decision to seal the S-400 deal.
Then he took a step further, implying that Turkey could also buy new generation Russian
stealth fighter jets instead of F-35s.
As U.S. Congress recklessly contemplates punitive actions against Turkey for its cooperation
with Russia, they are ensuring that Russians are the only option for Ankara's immediate
military needs.
How did we get here?
It is actually quite simple.
Since 2014, American senators for various reasons blocked the sale of American weapons
to Turkey, most notably even simple deliveries; for example, Joint Direct Attack Munitions
(JDAM) were frozen for a long time during a crucial Turkish anti-terror operations against
the PKK.
At various times, Turkey has tried to acquire American weapons; in many cases, the Obama
administration blamed Congress for the unsuccessful Turkish efforts.
Last year, around this time, President Erdoğan told Washington think tankers that the U.S.
Congress was the main reason for his decision to purchase Russian systems instead of an
American one, though one Turkey observer noted that it was also likely that the Obama administration
might have been using Congress as an excuse to prevent sales they don't want to happen.
U.S. State Department officials are still hope to convince Turkey to buy another NATO-compatible
system from the United States, but that ship sailed long ago since Turkey is already scheduled
to receive the Russian system next year.
A Turkish official recently told me that they find the U.S. alternative offers on this issue
disingenuous because Congress is likely to block any missile defense system package offered
by the Trump administration, anyway.
"Are they sure that this package would get through the Senate?
I'm not sure about that.
This is the reason we came to this point in the first place," the Turkish official said.
Yet this doesn't end here.
According to a Haaretz article, there is now an Israel initiative to prevent Turkey from
obtaining a software upgrade for F-35 planes to "keep its military qualitative edge," which
is ironic because Israel isn't part of the F-35 coproduction process.
While Israel is a customer for the F-35 program, Turkey has been a developmental partner since
2002.
Up to 10 Turkish companies are involved in either development or production.
Turkish companies are responsible for producing some parts and maintaining F-35 engine as
well. This is why it is a little ironic that Israel came up with these demands.
Yet it still doesn't make sense.
Turkey and Israel have never fought against each other – even in 2010 when Israeli soldiers
killed nine Turkish citizens who were part of the Gaza flotilla.
I cannot really see where Israeli officials are heading with this unreasonable concern
on Turkey's military capabilities.
So far, the only country edging toward war with Turkey was Russia when Turkey shot down
the Russian jet in 2015 for violating Turkish airspace.
This is why Israeli concerns are unwarranted.
Now, due to U.S. failure to support Turkey in Syria and the congressional blockades on
Turkish attempts to buy American weapons, Ankara seems more driven to Moscow than at
any time in recent history.Instead of waging a vendetta against Turkish officials with
punitive efforts that are very likely to backfire, American lawmakers should engineer ways to
move Turkey closer into the transatlantic orbit.
Otherwise, they will continue to risk rising Russian influence in a crucial NATO ally.
