<<I'm Not Good Looking, But I'm Very Gentle>> Lyrics: Li Gedi Songwriter: Kay Huang

Every single night

In the wilderness of dream

I am a proud giant

Every single morning

In front of the bathroom mirror

Only to find that I'm living on the edge of shaver

In this concrete jungle

In this life of being bossed around

And calculating the distance between dream and reality

I'm not good looking

But I'm very gentle

Seems cold

But warmhearted inside

That is what I am

I'm not good looking

But I've got music and beer

A little menial

A little weak

But never backing down

Every single morning

On the edge of the city

I'm a lonely man under the mask

Every single night

In the wilderness of music

Turning into a crazy howling giant

On the endless stage

On the other unknown side

Living for life and my own dignity

I'm not good looking

But I'm very gentle

Bleak in the daytime

But immortal at night

That is what I am

I'm not good looking

But I've got music and beer

Sometimes excited

Sometimes bow my head

Always good at waiting

I'm not good looking

But I'm very gentle

Seems cold

But warmhearted inside

That is what I am

I'm not good looking

But I've got music and beer

A little menial

A little weak

But never back down

Break up with your phone but stay friends....and how this effects our kids. - Duration: 6:12.

Hey ladies welcome back to my channel where we talk all things life food

family and fun so if that's of interest to you I would ask that you consider

subscribing and joining our family we would love to have you and hit the bell

so you're notified of all videos that come up that happens every Tuesday and

Thursday also go to Facebook and type in inspiring women find me at Heather

gearheart 1-1 and you'll also be notified there because I post all the

videos there as well so onto today's video I have a parenting tip and it's

also kind of a tip for us as well and that is how to breakup with your phone

and still say friends it's not you it's me you're giving me the it's not you

it's me routine I invented it's not you it's me nobody tells me it's them not me

if it's anybody it's me oh okay I'm pretty sure everybody knows that we're

all addicted to our phones but I'm not sure if we really realize the extent to

which we are addicted to our phones and also what we're showing our kids and

teaching our kids about that I gotta say I've been out to lots and lots of

restaurants we go out a lot and I look around and observe other families and

couples and and parents with kids and I'm watching them sit at a table where

they're supposed to be enjoying a meal together and sharing a meal and I am

Telling You nine times out of ten the parents and the kids have their faces in

some kind of device whether it's an iPad or it's a phone or it's a DES or some

kind of video game nobody's even talking to each other

they're all buried in their phone or it's sitting right next to the table and

they're talking to somebody and the second that thing beeps that they have a

text or a message or whatever they're like this and they don't even hear you

anymore and the kids have no idea how to have a conversation with adults or with

other kids that are at the table without being in a phone and I observed one

father who was sitting there with his teenage son having breakfast and he's

buried in his phone the teenager is sitting there the

teenager is sitting there not on his phone even though the phone was next to

him eating his pancakes and just sort of doing this just looking around because

his dad was buried in his phone and not even talking to him and it was really

sad because we don't know how to go out and have an hour without our devices

where we can just sit and look at each other and actually our kids are no

longer learning how to talk to people I mean they they're just texting or online

and no more face-to-face they don't know how to even talk on the phone to

somebody or sit in front of them and carry on a conversation for any length

of time because they're so buried in screens that they no longer how to know

how to communicate with each other my tip for you is no screens in restaurants

put it away turn it on silent when you walk into a restaurant don't give your

kids devices to keep them busy when they're in a restaurant if you don't

want to talk to them don't take them get a sitter leave them at home but don't

drag them to a restaurant and then just hand them something to keep them

entertained so that you can have an adult conversation I mean why are you

even bringing them and you know I get oh I don't want to pay for a babysitter but

then don't make the babysitter a device to where they don't talk to you I mean

kids can't even sit in a restaurant and talk anymore with their family or their

friends or their siblings because they're all buried in devices because

otherwise I'm bored they don't know how to be bored we don't want them to be

bored we don't want them to complain that they're bored and so we hand them

our phone or a device and really that's not helping that that's not helping them

develop relationships learn how to have conversations learn how to be bored and

then make the most of that and get creative it's just over stimulation all

the time with strains and so then everything else is just boring school is

boring because they don't want to just sit and read a textbook that's boring so

I'm telling you to break up with your phone when you're in restaurants put it

down do an experiment for the next two or three times that you go out and

either leave your phone in the car or put it away and put it on silent so that

you don't hear and see if you can go through

an entire time at a restaurant with your children and carry on conversations talk

get that thing Table Topics that I talked about if you haven't seen that

video I'll link it up here for Table Topics you can take a couple of cards

with you and just talk and teach your kids how to talk so you can still be

friends with your phone I'm not saying get rid of your phone but break up with

it when you're in a restaurant now I know there's some situations with

certain kids that you know maybe they have autism or maybe they've got a TD or

something where you know you kind of need some help when you're out in in a

public place in order for them to sit still and to be engaged I'm not talking

about that I'm seeing the majority of families with children can go out and

have a meal and not use some kind of device we're just so used to it but

really we are doing our kids a disservice by not teaching them how to

have relationships that they can interact with personally with their

siblings with you with guests that we go out with and so I'm just suggesting that

you break up with your phone while you're having a meal and just see what

kind of conversations you can have that's it for today's video I hope this

inspires you to have a conversation with your family and see how that actually

goes and you know anticipate that there might be some lulls in the conversation

that's okay you're learning to communicate with each other but you are

teaching your kids a valuable lesson that relationships are important and

that looking at someone in the eye when you speak to them is important so

hopefully this inspires you to try it out if you do leave me a comment below

and let me know what you think and how it went if it was awkward or if you

actually have some really fun interesting conversations and until next

time stay inspired and I will see you in the next video see you ladies

I Survived The War But We Lost My Sister - Duration: 3:13.

Hi my name is Zara. My Dad is from England and my Mom's from Iraq and I was

born in England. When I was about 7 years old, my Mum was like, "Hey maybe we should

go to Iraq, I've not seen my family in so long. So, maybe we should pay them a visit.

And maybe we could stay there for a while." My Dad was like, " no are you out of your your mind?"

"Like that's where the war is going on." My Mom was like, "Yeah, well that's where I

was born that's where I was raised." So my Dad finally agrees and me, my Mom my Dad

and my sisters and brothers went there. Everything was fine until I was

about nine years old. I remember it was about 4 a.m. and then I was woken up to

the sound of screams and crying. And I was like "what what's going on? This isn't

right." So I decided to look out my window and I

see fire. I see a building on fire. I rushed to my Mom's room and I grabbed

her by the hand I rushed back to my room and I show her the fire. She screamed and

she woke everyone up and she was having a panic attack.

Soon enough we realized that our city has been attacked.

About a few weeks later, we were running low and supplies because we'd been in

the house the whole time trying to avoid the war. And then my Dad was like, "okay we

are low on food we can't live like this we are gonna die in here if we don't get

anymore." My dad and my sister go out and they go and get food. It was about four

days since they'd went out to get some food. And my Mum and I and my brothers

started panicking. Drew was just like "something has happened they are not okay!"

I just lost all my hope and I was like, "well there's nothing to do now let's

just pray to God and see what happens."

But then a miracle happened. My Dad came back from the house and without my

sister. He was just crying and he was really injured...

...without my sister... I've realized why God has taken it up

and I realized that she'll be by my side no matter what.

Soon after that we move back to England and now I'm 13 years old and I live a

happy life. Life is good and just know if you're

going through warring thing it will get better...

10 Super Abilities We Are Born With But Choose To Ignore - Duration: 4:37.

10 Super-Abilities We Are Born With But Choose To Ignore

by Conscious Reminder

The human mind has been shrouded in mystery for its entire existence.

The fact that we have characters like Jean Grey and Professor X in the superhero universe,

is proof enough that the human mind and its untapped energies and powers have always fascinated

mankind.

Scepticism is the enemy however as the wisdom of the ages has always attested to this fact.

The human mind and body have an infinite amount of untapped potential.

Best part, everyone is born with these powers but no wants knows how to tap into them.

Like El Dorado, ignorance is slowly replaced by sceptic denial.

1.

The voice inside you Remember all those prophets, from Muhammad,

Jesus, and Zarathustra?

All of them found what they were searching for, thanks to the voice that spoke through

them.

The voice is of course the voice of God, resonating through their souls.

They were sensitive enough to shut them of.

Even Joan of Arc made it public that she heard voices.

Everyone among us has a voice talking to us, helping us.

Its up to us to listen.

2.

Your inner peace Your inner peace and inner happy place of

solitude is yours and yours only.

It is where you can truly find yourself and your true potential, if only you choose to

zone everything else out.

3.

Your ability to hold your breath Holding your breath impacts your nervous system

and helps you calm down.

Holding your breath and releasing it slowly in 10 small portions helps trigger a mechanism

that makes your body feel lighter within seconds.

Besides this ability helps you enjoy the joys of water, which again is a common media that

helps people calm down.

4.

Your stare Theorists call it the Gaze.

Ever seen people look at you back or answer absentmindedly after youve been looking

at them?

This is because your gaze is tangible and the other persons entire existence is pricked

by it.

Gazes hence are very good methods of telepathic communication.

5.

Your ability to communicate non-verbally This is because we are all one and we all

speak the same language inside our hearts.

This ability is particularly pertinent among couples in love, especially soulmates and

twin-flames.

6.

Your generosity The joy of giving is something transcendental.

This is how you come closer to your soul and also reach out to other souls.

This is a human responsibility that every major religion extols: charity.

Giving things to people who need the things you have more than you, is something that

can change the way we perceive life on this planet: something we should ideally be looking

at right now.

7.

Your decisiveness Whenever in a fix, use your best mental faculties

and choose the option that speaks out to you.

The guardian spirit looking after us is more often than not always going to tell you what

is good and right for you through your own gut.

Your own gut feeling and the decisions it makes can be a game-changer during complex

dilemmas and situations that require you to pick between two equally important and equally

good things.

8.

Your sense of humor It is true, laughter is the best medicine

and the amount of positivity that comes from a person laughing just for the heck of it,

is immeasurable.

Especially if the said person is someone you love, it does an immense deal to heal you

and better your day.

9.

Your creativity The feeling that comes with you satisfactorily

creating a new piece of original art is unparalleled.

The amount of spiritual energy that creates, is astounding.

10.

Your ability to meditate This activity can simply make everything better

and life more and more peaceful.

✅ It may have taken seven years to write, but Snow Patrol are on course for their first UK number on - Duration: 3:26.

It may have taken seven years to write, but Snow Patrol are on course for their first UK number one album in over a decade

The Northern Ireland band's latest record, Wildness, has received rave reviews and earned the accolade of being named the Sunday Times album of the week

It was also one of the Evening Standard's albums of the week. Magazine Hot Press hailed the band's seventh album, describing it as "arguably the most ambitious opus" of Snow Patrol's 25-year career

In an 8/10 review, it described Wildness as "a stylish, sometimes surprising comeback that will firmly re-establish Snow Patrol in the charts and hearts of the world", adding "Welcome back, boys"

The Washington Post described the opening track, Life on Earth, as "majestic and grand", and summed up the album as a "triumphant Snow Patrol return"

It also seems that fans agree with the critics as Wildness was yesterday soaring ahead at the summit of the chart during the midway stage

If it hits top spot, it will be Snow Patrol's first number one album since Eyes Open, released in 2006. But to secure the number one spot, it will have to knock hugely popular The Greatest Showman down to number two while Shawn Mendes' eponymous album is also in line for a top three finish

Biffy Clyro's MTV Unplugged: Live At Roundhouse is in line for number four, while Chvrches' Love Is Dead is on course for a top five finish - a career high for the band

Speaking to the Belfast Telegraph earlier last week, Snow Patrol frontman Gary Lightbody revealed he has been sober for two years after one drunken night almost ended his life

The 41-year-old said he almost died in 2000 after falling down a flight of steps in Glasgow following a three-day bender

"I was out of control," he said. "I was a giant ass, running all over the place. "Looking at myself in the mirror that day was, literally, a sobering experience

That was the first time I quit the booze." Snow Patrol yesterday announced UK and Ireland tour dates, which includes gigs in Belfast and Dublin

The band will play the SSE Arena in Belfast on December 7 and the 3Arena in Dublin on December 11. Tickets will go on sale at Ticketmaster next Friday, June 8, from 9am

The band is also set to perform and greet fans at HMV in Belfast at 5pm tomorrow. Fans can attend by obtaining a wristband, available by purchasing Wildness from HMV Belfast in person from 12pm today, subject to availability

'Roseanne' cancellation a huge blow to ABC, but network praised for swift action - Duration: 13:41.

In 2018, the question in both comedy and social media has been: How far is too far? At 11:45 Monday night, Roseanne Barr, and the hundreds of people employed by ABC's reboot of "Roseanne," found out

Advertisement Replying to a tweet about a Wikileaks report claiming that the CIA spied on French presidential candidates during the Obama administration, Barr, almost as an aside, referred to former Obama aide Valerie Jarrett as the offspring of the Muslim Brotherhood and the "Planet of the Apes" film franchise

Within hours, "Roseanne," a revival of the beloved program that had unexpectedly become the most successful new TV series in years, had been canceled

The announcement, from Channing Dungey, president of ABC Entertainment, was breathtaking in its force and brevity

"Roseanne's Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show

" And that's all she wrote. For weeks, ABC had been wrestling with Barr's volatile presences on social media; this was not the first outburst on Twitter to draw negative attention to the star and her show

But this time the racism of the statement was too bold to ignore. As outrage erupted, Barr deleted the tweet and subsequently apologized for what she called "a bad joke about [Jarrett's] politics and her looks

" But the damage had been done. By early Monday morning, Wanda Sykes, Barr's longtime friend and fellow comic, had announced she would not be returning to "Roseanne" after acting as a consulting producer on the rebooted series

Costar Sara Gilbert, who had been the driving force behind the show's resurrection, quickly denounced the tweet as "abhorrent," and less than an hour later, Dungey issued her statement

"There was only one thing to do here, and that was the right thing," Disney Chief Executive Bob Iger said in a tweet responding to the decision

Though self-administered, it was a huge blow to ABC, which only two weeks ago had been touting the broad appeal of show and its star during a presentation to advertisers in New York

At the time, "Roseanne" looked like it might finish the season as television's No

1 show — a feat ABC hadn't achieved in 24 years. (In the end, CBS' "Big Bang Theory" won the top spot with an average of 18

8 million viewers to "Roseanne's" 17.9 million.) There was only one thing to do here, and that was the right thing, Disney Chief Executive Bob Iger Share quote & link The Burbank-based entertainment giant has a reputation for placing a premium on diversity, in its workforce as well as on the shows and movies it makes for big and small screens

After Barr's tweet, top leaders of ABC and its corporate parent Disney came together; Dungey and ABC Entertainment Group President Ben Sherwood were adamant that Disney had to fire its top-rated star, according to an insider familiar with the situation but not authorized to publicly discuss it

Iger immediately agreed. The network was praised for it swift response. "Roseanne Barr's comments were appalling and reminiscent of a horrific time in our history when racism was not only acceptable but promoted by Hollywood," wrote NAACP President and CEO Derrick Johnson in a statement released Tuesday

"We applaud ABC for taking a stand against racism by canceling 'Roseanne' today." In an appearance on MSNBC Tuesday, Jarrett said she agreed with ABC's decision and said Iger had called to apologize before it was announced

"I think we have to turn it into a teaching moment," she said. "I'm fine. I'm worried about all the people out there who don't have a circle of friends and followers coming to their defense

" "I think ABC did the right thing," Danny Deraney, a Los Angeles-based public relations executive told The Times

"It's hard — when it's a show like 'House of Cards,' you can replace Kevin Spacey

You can't replace Roseanne. "Those comments are abhorrent. And she's not just affected her career with this but everyone else involved

" Advertisement As word of the cancellation spread, her collaborators on "Roseanne" responded with a mix of grief and disappointment

"This is incredibly sad and difficult for all of us, as we've created a show that we believe in, are proud of and that audiences love — one that is separate and apart from the opinions and words of one cast member," Gilbert tweeted

"I am disappointed in her actions to say the least." "On behalf of all the writers and producers, we worked incredibly hard to create an amazing show," said executive producer and showrunner Bruce Helford in a separate statement

"I was personally horrified and saddened by the comments and in no way do they reflect the values of the people who worked so hard to make this the iconic show that it is

" Throughout Tuesday, the dominos continued to fall. After the cancellation was announced, Barr was dropped by her representatives, ICM Partners

"We are all greatly distressed by the disgraceful and unacceptable tweet from Roseanne Barr this morning," the agency said

"What she wrote is antithetical to our core values, both as individuals and as an agency

" The latest season of "Roseanne" has been removed from the network's website and its press portal, and ABC announced that it was suspending the show's Emmy campaign

Viacom announced it was pulling the show from syndication on TV Land, CMT, the Paramount network and Hulu

By Tuesday afternoon, it was as if is the new version of "Roseanne" had never existed

Barr has always been a controversial figure and in early promotion for the new show (actually the latest season of a show that last aired in 1997), Barr had sounded as if she had learned from her prior experience on the network, which was marred by clashes with the show's writers and executives during its nine-year run

"I always thought [the show] needed a 10th season. That's my lucky number," Barr told The Times in advance of the show's return in March

I thought I would be able to clean up a lot of dirt from before," Barr continued

"I thought I would be a leader in a better way, that I would once again be the boss but be more tempered and old and wise

I've learned a lot of things about people. I have life skills that I feel I was not great at before

" But Barr's provocative nature — as well as her recent embrace of far-right politics — made her a lightning rod, both on Twitter, where she shared far-flung conspiracy theories, and on the show

Her character's identification as a supporter of President Trump brought her criticism and congratulations; at a rally two months ago, Trump congratulated Barr on her success after the show earned 18

2 million viewers in its season premiere. "And it was about us!" Trump said as he extended his arms toward his audience

A joke in the third episode about the sitcoms "black-ish" and "Fresh Off the Boat" proved more controversial

"We missed all the shows about the black and Asian families," Dan (John Goodman) complains one night

"They're just like us," her character said of the sitcoms. "There, now you're all caught up

" Advertisement Many complained that the exchange was, at worst, racist and, at best, dismissive to the diverse perspective of both ABC shows

Barr claimed the joke was misinterpreted and had been intended as a show of support

Dungey agreed. "I do stand by the 'Roseanne' writers in terms of the decision to include that line," she said during a conference call leading up to ABC's presentation to advertisers earlier this month

"I think they felt that they were expressing the point of view of the Conners." Still, there was a sense that the network was wary of Barr's divisive views and had asked her to tone it down

During a recent stand-up performance in Las Vegas that came shortly after the comic engaged in a Twitter spat with alleged Trump mistress Stormy Daniels, Barr refused to take the bait from her clearly conservative crowd to respond further

"'I've been silenced, I can't say nothing about Stormy Daniels. I've already been warned," she said with some resignation

As her fans groaned, she added: "You guys just want me to get fired from my TV show

JDS offered support, but Congress insisted on Kumaraswamy as Karnataka CM: Deve Gowda - Duration: 4:29.

JDS offered support, but Congress insisted on Kumaraswamy as Karnataka CM: Deve Gowda

Kumaraswamy was on May 23, 2018, sworn-in as Karnataka CM at a grand ceremony in Bengaluru attended by a galaxy of top leaders and regional satraps.

Bengaluru: Janata Dal (Secular) supremo HD Deve Gowda said on Monday that the Congress had insisted on HD Kumaraswamy becoming the CM of Karnataka.

He clarified that he had offered to support a Congress-led government in Karnataka after the fractured verdict in the Assembly polls. There was a discussion between me, Congress leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad and Ashok Gehlot.

I told them, you form (the government), I have no problem. They insisted that Kumaraswamy become the CM and that it was their high commands decision, the former PM said at a press conference.

He also indicated it would be difficult to keep the promise of relief to farmers. How? With 37 members (MLAs of the JD-S), we have to run the government with the support of another party.

We will also have to continue with their programmes. Without their support it is difficult.

That is why he (Kumaraswamy) said I will give resignation if need be. He was under Congress will and not under the will of 6.5 crore people. He has called himself a child of circumstances, Gowda said, as per PTI.

Kumaraswamy had promised to write off farm loans totalling Rs 53,000 crore within 24 hours of coming to power, but has now sought time citing coalition compulsions and the need to assess the financial condition of the state.

He had said on Sunday that said he was at the mercy of the Congress and not the 6.5 crore people of Karnataka as his party had not received the full mandate which it had sought.

JD(S), who had fought bitterly against the Congress, especially in old Mysuru region, had to join hands to keep BJP out of power in Karnataka, where the May 12 polls threw up a hung Assembly.  Kumaraswamy was on May 23, 2018, sworn-in as Karnataka CM at a grand ceremony in Bengaluru attended by a galaxy of top leaders and regional satraps.

G Parameshwara, the state Congress chief and the partys Dalit face, was sworn in as his deputy.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi, his mother and UPA chairperson Sonia, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, N Chandrababu Naidu, and Pinarayi Vijayan, her counterparts in Andhra Pradesh, and Kerala respectively, were present on the occasion.

The FIU bridge crushed their daughter. Her iPhone survived — but they can't unlock it

MIAMI - Tucked away inside a white, weathered dresser rests a brown, crumpled paper bag.

Inside that bag are a few ounces of whats left of the dead teen - two wrinkled dollar bills, a quarter, a dusty hair tie, a black leather choker, a long pendant necklace, a silver ring, a sorority keychain, a Sunpass transponder and a drivers license.

This is what they handed to me, whispered Gina Duran, angry tears dribbling down her cheek.

The mourning mother held the chalky items up into the light.

Her voice cracked.

They handed me my daughter in a freaking paper bag.

Alexa Duran, 18, was one of six people crushed to death on March 15 when the pedestrian bridge at Florida International University collapsed onto ongoing traffic.

The FIU freshman would have turned 19 last week.

The mountain of concrete crushed cars, even the strongest of pickup trucks, at 1:47 p.m.

that day.

Alexa, who was driving her fathers Toyota 4Runner, was going east on Tamiami Trail and was on her way to drop off a dear friend at home.

In an instant, the bridge - which was still under construction - caved, mangling the SUV.

Footage shows a yellow school bus halting just moments before the disaster.

Dozens climbed out of their cars and dashed toward the rubble as dust and crumbled concrete drifted through the air.

An immense slab fell diagonally, almost precisely, onto the drivers side of Alexas vehicle.

The passenger, FIU student Richard Humble, was spared.

It was as if God chose my daughter that day, Gina said.

As the public waits for answers on what happened - at the same time government agencies are stanching the flow of vital information - the Duran family is busy fighting to preserve her memory with one other salvaged possession: Alexas unscathed iPhone.

My daughters body came back as flat and thin as a cracker but her iPhone survived without a single scratch, Gina Duran said.

The familys quest to live out their daughters last days and find closure in the wake of the teens death hasnt come without major obstacles - specifically Alexas password, which was her thumbprint.

As a backup, Alexa armed her cell with a six-digit pin code.

About a dozen friends and family members have tried to guess it and had no success.

As a last resort, relatives have attempted to figure out her Apple ID password.

Could it be her dogs name, Lola? No.

Her favorite food? No.

How about her birthday or boy crush? No.

After the maximum number of failed attempts, the phone locked itself.

Her older sister, Dina, said, Alexa set the password to have the maximum number of characters allowed, making it that much harder to crack.

To no avail, the grieving family even tried local independent technology companies.

They could not hack into it.

Apple requires a court order, a death certificate and proof of them being trustee of Alexas estate - an exhausting process the Duran family is currently navigating.

Apple has no way to unlock phones because it doesnt store pass codes, thumbprint or face recognition data, according to the company.

However, with a court order, it can access whatever the user uploaded to his or her iCloud.

They said they would call me back but they havent, Gina Duran said.

As a teen, you dont tell your parents every single little thing, Gina said, holding the iPhone 6.

Opening this phone will give me a glimpse into my babys last moments.

What was she thinking? What was her last selfie? Anything.

Anything..

The Miami Herald contacted Apple directly, but the company would not elaborate on its policies regarding iCloud and Apple ID ownership after death, and referred to its privacy policy online.

Until it can be accessed, the phone rests in a box under the dead teens pillow.

Her parents are afraid that further fiddling with it will erase the data.

I cant lose it.

I cant lose whats in there, just in case one day we can get it to open, Gina Duran said, fluffing her teens white pillowcase.

This is the only place I know it will be safe.

Since his daughters death, Orlando Duran can only cope by sending his pumpkin text messages.

Almost every day, the teens most trusted secret-keeper sends her a brief note.

Three days after the collapse, Alexas body was finally identified and she was officially pronounced to be dead.

Bye, my little girl, I will send you another message tomorrow hoping you might answer, one text from her father read.

Im sitting here with mom drinking and thinking about you without saying a word.

We love you and miss you, read another.

He squeezed his phone tightly and polished the glowing screen with his shirt cuff.

Every time I write a message I die a little.

The Pokémon Company International announced that three major Pokémon games are coming

for the Nintendo Switch during 2018.

And these don't include another major Pokémon game coming in 2019.

Two will include a major tie-in with Pokémon Go, the runaway hit mobile game.

And it's a big deal for Switch fans, who have been waiting for the sprawling transmedia

franchise to catch up with Nintendo's fast-selling game console.

Over 20 years, gamers have bought more than 300 million Pokémon video games have been

sold.

The brand has shipped 23.6 billion trading cards to 74 countries in 11 languages, and

more than 1,000 TV episodes have been released over 21 seasons.

And Pokémon Go has been downloaded hundreds of millions of times since 2016.

Daniel Benkwitt, senior manager for consumer marketing at The Pokémon Company International,

said in a press briefing that the first game to be released is Game Freak's Pokémon

Quest, an adventure game with a blocky art style coming to both mobile devices and the

Switch.

In Quest, you'll power up a team of Pokémon creatures and explore Tumblecube island.

It's a "rambunctious expedition role-playing game" with cube-shaped Pokémon, Benkwitt

said.

The game has Generation 1 Pokémon, and it debuts on the Nintendo eShop on the Switch

today and on mobile in late June.

That will whet the appetite of fans for the next two Switch titles, Pokémon: Let's

Go Pikachu and Pokémon: Let's Go Eevee.

These games use the Pokémon Go throwing mechanic, where you throw a Poké Ball at the creature

on the screen to capture it.

In style, the games are inspired by Pokémon: Yellow Version released in 1998, said Junichi

Masuda, developer of the games at Game Freak, in a press briefing.

In that game, Pikachu followed behind the player instead of living in a PokéBall, similar

to the character's portrayal in the popular anime.

There are two versions of the game as you can play with Pikachu on your shoulder as

a buddy in one game, or with Eevee in the other game.

Both games arrive on November 16 on the Switch.

The games feature creatures from the Kanto region.

Just as in Pokémon Go, you play the Switch games by making a throwing gesture at the

screen.

But instead of playing with a smartphone, you play with the Switch's Joy-Con controllers,

which can detect gestures.

You hold a single Joy-Con pad in one hand (hopefully with a strap on your wrist to keep

from launching the controller into the TV), you make a throwing gesture to toss a Poké

ball at a creature.

Two players can play together to try to capture creatures in co-op mode.

Masuda said that this style of gameplay is more approachable for young children, who

may have been introduced to the Pokémon universe through Pokémon Go.

Not everyone can play with a complicated multibutton game controller.

There is a battle experience, but much of the game is focused on catching creatures.

"I wanted to provide an opportunity for younger kids to play," Masuda said.

"One of the unique features of the Joy-Con is you can play it with one hand."

One of the cool features for Pokémon Go fans is that you will be able to transfer some

of your Kanto region creatures from Pokémon Go to the Pikachu and Eevee games, using a

Bluetooth connection between your smartphone and the Switch.

Asked why he didn't enable smartphones as a controller, Masuda said the Joy-Con experience

is lag free.

"There would be an input lag if you used controller," he said, speaking through a

translator in an Internet call.

As for two-player mode, you can bring in a second player with a second Joy-Con controller

at certain points when you are capturing creatures.

Then you can take control of a second avatar and battle to defeat other computer-controlled

trainers in a single-player experience.

Masuda didn't talk about multiplayer, and he said there is no trading in the game.

"Pokémon Go was an explosive success, but kids who did not have smartphones did not

get the chance to play," he said.

"We wanted to give them an experience of throwing the Poké Ball.

I wanted to do something intuitive and get it in the hands of more casual players."

Masuda started making Pokémon games back in 1989.

He composed music for every Pokémon core series game to date, and he is directing the

new games himself.

These are the first games since he did Pokémon X and Pokémon Y in 2013.

Since that time, the Pokémon franchise has started making the transition from the DS

and 3DS to the Switch.

Masuda said he has been working on the game for two years.

"We are in the transition and wanted to expand the user base for the Switch platform

in a game you can play with siblings or friends," Masuda said.

"That's why I wanted to make these games."

Game Freak is the primary developer of Pokémon role-playing games.

The Nintendo Switch has sold more than 17 million consoles in a little over a year.

In Pokémon Go, more than 88 billion Pokémon creatures have been caught, 15.8 billion kilometers

have been walked, and the game has been downloaded at least 800 million times.

There's also a live-action Pokémon movie coming in 2019 starring actor Ryan Reynolds.

The first Pokémon game for the Switch was Pokken Tournament DX, which came out last

fall.

Companies like Starbucks love anti-bias training. But it doesn't work — and may backfire. - Duration: 7:41.

Companies like Starbucks love anti-bias training. But it doesn't work — and may backfire.

A viral video of two African-American men getting arrested at a Starbucks in Philadelphia— for reportedly doing nothing other than waiting for a business associate to arrive — sparked demonstrations, calls for boycotts, and an apology from the coffee giant's chief executive, Kevin Johnson.

"What happened in the way that incident escalated, and the outcome, was nothing but reprehensible," Johnson said in a video message after the April incident.

"I will fix this.".

The solution Starbucks has come up with to prevent its staff from discriminating against customers is "anti-bias training.

On May 29, the chain's 8,000-plus Starbucks-operated US stores will close for the afternoon and forgo profits so that employees can attend a training that will "address implicit bias, promote conscious inclusion, prevent discrimination and ensure everyone inside a Starbucks store feels safe and welcome," according to the company.

(Starbucks' 7,000 licensed stores — those in airports, grocery stores, universities — will stay open.) The training has been developed with expert input from the likes of Equal Justice Initiative founder Bryan Stevenson, NAACP president Sherrilyn Ifill, and former US Attorney General Eric Holder, the Washington Post reported.

But according to five social scientists I spoke to who study racial bias, a few hours of training won't begin to solve the problem that infects corporations like Starbucks.

"We should be skeptical of the training's ability to transform, in any meaningful way, white workers' biases toward black customers," said Hakeem J.

Jefferson, a political science PhD candidate at the University of Michigan.

That's because the evidence we have suggests trainings generally fail to alter racial biases and behaviors in the long term — and can even backfire.

So this one may do no more good than Starbucks's failed attempt to spark conversations about race by asking baristas to write "race together" on coffee cups.

"[Starbucks] felt they needed to make a symbolic gesture," Harvard sociologist Frank Dobbin told me.

"The problem is that corporate America has been making this symbolic gesture since the 1970s." (Disclosure: Vox Media, like many companies, has run its own anti-bias and sexual harassment trainings.).

"These efforts are just window dressing," Dobbin added, just as corporate sexual harassment trainings have become the default response to the #MeToo movement.

Any corporation that wants to be part of the solution, rather than the problem, needs to look beyond token gestures like trainings to the other measures that can begin to truly address inequality.

They might be harder and take longer, but they're a more sincere way to avoid damaging, hurtful incidents like calling the cops on customers of color.

How implicit bias works.

Before we get into the efficacy of anti-bias trainings, we need a quick primer on how bias works.

The type of bias Starbucks is hoping to stamp out of its staff members is referred to as implicit bias — the idea that people unconsciously categorize others based on things like their occupation, sex, or race.

Implicit bias is about assumptions or inferences about behavior — like whether someone is friendly or threatening, caring or indifferent — and we're not usually aware we're even engaging in that type of thinking, University of Oregon law and psychology researcherErik Girvan explained.

These implicit associations often lead to explicitly discriminatory behaviors in our workplaces and communities.

For African Americans, the biases people hold tend to be disturbingly negative.

Researchers have found, for example, that we associate black skin with evil; we see black children as older than they actually are; and we see young black men as taller, heavier, and more muscular — and more physically threatening — than young white men.

These biases can shape how we act, which the Starbucks incident demonstrated.

A manager in the store reportedly said the men were trespassing and refused to leave after being asked, as Vox's Emily Stewart reported.

A swarm of police hovered over the two men, while another patron in the cafe asked, "Does anybody else think this is ridiculous?" and called the incident "absolute discrimination.".

"The manager saw the men as more threatening because they're African American," said Girvan.

"Even if that person wouldn't have said they were racist, and may not be consciously aware they were seeing [the Starbucks patrons] as different, [that bias] resulted in a police call.".

The bias that drives racial profiling is common and certainly not unique to Starbucks staff.

It's easy to find examples of it in the US police force — and it can lead to the unfair arrests and killings of innocent black people.

It also pervades the American workplace, where racial minorities are more likely than white people to be the victims of harassment and "exclusionary behaviors," such as being left out of social events.

While corporations have long sought to address systemic racism, as Vox's German Lopez reported, a 2017 study reported that anti-black hiring practices are as common today as they were in the 1980s, despite the proliferation of diversity programs and anti-bias training.

Tejashwi Yadav, the Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Assembly, BSP chief Mayawati and SP leader Akhilesh Yadav, NCP leader Sharad Pawar, CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury and socialist leader Sharad Yadav were also in attendance.
