Youtube daily Or Jul 28 2018

Hey ladies and jellyfish, wumbos of all sizes, welcome back to A.S.K.

Air's videos!

Today I am taking a look at every single 2018 America's Got Talent audition, and reviewing

them all in 10 words or less.

If you haven't seen the show on my channel where I do the same but with SpongeBob episodes,

check those out.

If you don't know my system, I will rate every audition done this year in season 13

great, good, meh, bad or boo.

I will also give them a short review in 10 words or less.

By the way, I guess you could call this a yearly tradition, as last year I actually

fully reviewed every audition to make an hour-long video.

But, with this being a sparking growth on my channel, me loving this show, and this

being a fun way to express my thoughts without spending countless days working on an hour-long

video that will get 12 views, let's get into it.

By the way, check that video out too, I doubt it's better than this one, but I hope you

like both.

I also uploaded a video on why I personally think the AGT Judge Cuts are pointless, so

check that out as well!

Hopefully it's in the card above if I'm not lazy.

I'm also not talking about those filler acts that were 20 seconds long or acts that

weren't televised, just to make this a little more concise and quick.

So, let's do this!

The Savitsky Cats Good

A bit dull at first, but WOAH!

Shin Lim Great

Umm, a little uncomfortable much?

We Three Meh

BORING!

La Fontane Umane Great

This deserves to win the whole show!

Junior New System Good

A cool fun act in general!

Flau'jae Good

Telling Heidi to shut up made this worth it!

Angel City Chorale Great

165 people! Ha I still have more subs suckas! Oliver Graves

Great He actually made me laugh and cry.

Angel Garcia Great

He has quite the future ahead of him.

Oscar and Pam Bad

My old neighborhood dog did the same, big deal.

Makayla Phillips Meh

Heidi is so so so so so so naive.

Now, before we get into the stats, let's do a quick top and bottom 5.

Due to the time restraint in the making of this video, I won't go into much detail

like in my SpongeBob videos.

Anyway, let's do a top and bottom 5, revealing the season 13 Golden and Rotten Auditions.

The top 5 will also exclude the Golden Buzzers.

So let's get into it.

#5 Best: Mochi A hilarious man with a talent as huge as his

personality.

I know personally for a fact that Diabolo isn't something to be scoffed at, and this

man is truly talented when he can do it that well.

He is also a great guy who finally got his break.

#5 Worst: Oscar and Pam This act is so boring.

I swear I used to live somewhere where when I played piano, a dog across the street would

howl like this.

I hate how dogs are treated on these shows, and get an automatic pass most of the time.

It was also really boring and made me want to sleep.

#4 Best: Shin Lim Shin Lim is quite the act.

He is one of the only magicians on these shows where I really can't find how he did it,

me being the amateur card-shuffler noob I am.

His personality is also the final cherry on top.

#4 Worst: Annaliese Nock Oh boy, this is like the gift that keeps on

giving.

We had Bello Nock on last year, and now his stupid daughter decides to just blow herself

up.

Not only is there no pressure as she obviously won't die on TV, there's no twist to it

and it seems kind of phony and boring.

#3 Best: Daniel Emmet Man, whatever judge is stupid enough to not

give this guy their Golden Buzzer and give Makayla Phillips the Golden Buzzer instead,

must be a fricking supermodel.

Oh wait...

#3 Worst: Lilly Walker I hated this act from the minute it started.

To think others with actual talent have to have stress about not going through, and then

this stupid act comes on and it goes through, is so utterly insulting.

#2 Best: Angel City Chorale Now, I am aware in the making of this video

that this did get the Golden Buzzer in the Judge Cuts, and I couldn't agree more!

The talent in bringing 170 different people together, to make such a beautiful sound,

is honestly deserving of no less than the number 2 best act on this show, excluding

the Golden Buzzers.

#2 Worst: Bryan Kellen This guy should've stayed in his multi-million

dollar company from the start, because from this audition, I can safely say that this

man is not funny in the slightest.

Point-blank.

Golden Audition: Aaron Crow This was such an entertaining act!

This act is honestly WAY too underrated.

The lead-up, drama, creativity and tension this act created made it one of the most enjoyable

and awesome auditions to ever come out of one of these shows.

Rotten Audition: Sethward Oh God, this one.

This is my least favorite act from season 13.

I just think it speaks for itself so me explaining anything is completely pointless.

It's loud, uncomfortable, not funny, and a little unsettling.

JUST WHY?

So, now let's get right into the stats!

We had 59 total acts, which consisted of 16 greats, 22 goods, 16 mehs, 3 bads and 2 boos.

Clearly the goods and the positive side take the lead, so I consider season 13 a good season

in terms of quality of acts.

The greats and mehs being even very well even out to the good, and the bads and boos make

it a light good, as in it's closer to mediocre than great.

Anyway, that was that!

How to Test the Health of Your HDD or SSD Drive - Duration: 2:19.

Worried about your hard disk? Here is the way to check hard disk health on windows 10.

Software link in the description box.

Extract it when it's downloaded.

It is a really simple, yet powerful, tool.

It is a free-to-use tool that is extremely light and offers all the required information, such as temperature, health status, hard disk type and

features, and other attributes like read/write error rate and spin-up time, etc.

If your windows are 32-bit, click 32bit. if 64-bit then click 64bit.

Here you can see the health of your hard disk.

It warns me that it can be damaged at any moment.

Here you can see the temperature level of your hard disk.

From here you can change your application theme if you want.

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to have a lot of options or settings or any type of HDD surface tests.

It can help you to backup your data before your hard disk crashes.

One Day or Day 1 You Decide! ★ #TheDay1Journey Ep. 1 ★ - Duration: 5:19.

welcome to the day 1 journey in less than 5 minutes I will tell you all about it.

what it is and why I am doing it.

let's go.

less than 5 minutes I'll start my timer here.

wait a sec. let's go.

less than 5 minutes.

so notice this is the day 1 journey, it is not the one day journey.

it is not the journey you do with your parents every Saturday - yea?

like a one day journey.

no no no. and more than that.

it's not the one day I'll do that journey no no no.

cause one day never happens, we all know that, right? we say one day, usually it is NO day.

last time I checked one day wasn't a Wednesday nor Tuesday and definitely not Thursday.

So, it is about DAY 1, not just day 1 it is about the everyday but when we speak to people

usually people tell me ask me why do you do that and I'm telling them: you know I'm doing

it everyday because it's the everyday thing and then people get overwhelmed wow, every

day I am going to do it.

so let's make it simple.

if we cannot make it easy let's make it at least simple because you know simple is not

easy.

simple is not necessarily easy.

so at least make it simple.

day 1 is simple.

every day is day 1. this is episode 1 of the day one journey.

so if this video sucks I don't care because tomorrow is another day and every

day is day 1 so I just try again.

what do you have today that you want to do, really want to do. and you'll say NO... tomorrow.

treat it as day 1.

day 1 is always fun.

day 1 in school.

day 1 sometimes at work.

day 1 in the trip.

it's exciting.

it's new beginnings.

why don't we do every day day 1? by the way only 3 min left.

let's get going.

I see that people are joining and since it is the first time I do that I didn't think

anyone will join.

but let's go. this is day 1. and I will be here every day to remind you that this is

also your day 1.

so you can start whatever you want to do. and if it's also the middle you can start

again and again.

you start again every day.

you wake up every day.

yes, waking up is hard.

waking up is hard I know that.

but you do it every day. and every day is day 1.

so this is what it is all about.

to be frank, to be honest a little bit, so I will be reminding you and I'm doing my things

here.

ok next, what I am going to do here.

I will share my visions my dreams and what I am doing about them every day. and how I

treat every day as day 1. as a new beginning.

but in future videos...

I see I have less than 2 min so let's go.

Why I am doing it.

this was the what.

why I am doing it.

very very very powerful and... it is for YOU! for you first for you, I mean my children,

and probably some of you know me cause it is posted on instagram facebook youtube whatever

I am going to post it in.

not it is instagram live.

so some of you know that I don't have children.

still I do it for them! and I talk to them right now.

which makes me a little bit emotional and excited at the same time.

so day 1 journey episode 1. this is me the why is so deep probably in the next few episodes

I will share the why the real why.

but it's for my children.

I want to set an example.

I want to show you what I do every day.

I want to show you I keep my commitments.

this day 1 is every day I treat every day as day 1 and what's the best thing to do if

not to show it you.

I think we are over 5 min. so you will excuse me for the first time.

that was the why.

I am giving the ball back to you.

what do you want to do today?

how can you treat today as day 1.

day 1 on the road of what you want to do. and tomorrow treat it today as day 1. and

then again as day 1. and that's it.

the journey for life.

the day 1 journey.

see you tomorrow.

same time same place.

not sure about the same time maybe here in the park.

most people don't know where I am.

but that's okay.

bye for now.

Editing Bays or Editing BAES - Duration: 3:27.

Hey, what's up YouTube? Daren Stottrup here,

and it has been a whirlwind of a month!

Recently, I got back from that Grand Canyon trip that I was telling you about before.

It was like a road trip sampler!

We managed to make it through three different states within four days.

Come back to hometown and hit the ground running…

I had a lot of projects I was doing outside of work,

a lot of projects in work,

so like I said, it's been a pretty crazy month.

I have to say that not posting a video last week

was a huge relief!

so much so that I am going to start implementing that.

So you are still going to get a video from me,

but you're going to be getting those every other week

rather than every week.

And I think that's actually going to be a win/win situation.

Because, first of all, it's going to give me a little bit better of a

work/life balance;

currently, the workflow that I've been doing is

I will film the video tonight, on a Tuesday

and then I will edit it tonight, and I will edit it Wednesday.

I'll get it all set up, so that way Thursday night

I can upload it to YouTube, have everything ready

so Friday, on my lunch break

I can publish it, and then you can have it to view.

The problem with that, is if I do that every week,

then I no longer have a life.

I'm just constantly filming and editing...

so that's not gonna work out so well for me.

The thing that's gonna benefit the viewer, too, is the fact that

Now, I can spend a little bit more time on some of these videos

I can do things more than just, like, the talking head like you're seeing here in a vlog post.

I can spending that time making

something a bit more intricate, maybe I can do some

product reviews, or some tutorials,

or even as I'm planning on doing with the Grand Canyon,

I've got a bunch of footage, so

as soon as I get a moment, I'm going to sit down in the editing bay

start putting all the footage together, and I'll have something to release.

I don't know if that's going to be the next video,

but that's kind of the goal at the moment.

Also, the other nice this is I have had

a few people say that they're still catching up on previous videos, so

now you get a little more time to do that as well.

So, you're gonna to get this video on Friday, but...

my phone is ringing...

[rapid cell phone ringtone]

So the idea is you'll be able to have a little bit more time to catch up

on the videos.

That's gonna be the new schedule.

A little bit of an update, I have worked on the cooking show;

I shot two more episodes.

There were some massive technical difficulties.

In fact, there's been technical difficulties

pretty much every time I've picked up my camera since then.

But, I'm staying optimistic, I'm still pushing through,

actually really working hard at not being frustrated by some of those things

and kind of taking it in stride.

That doesn't come naturally for me, so...

that's something that I'm working on as well.

And there's a whole on video that I wanna make

just to talk about that specific thing.

As anyone knows, when things go wrong on set,

it can be tricky.

But during the shooting for the cooking show,

I had some technical difficulties with the microphone.

One of my brand new microphones that I bought

specifically for that--

it crapped out, and

couldn't use it.

That's another story that I'll tell you for another time.

Lemme thing, anything else...?

Umm...

Hmm.

Anyway, that's pretty much all I have today

The microphone that I sent back,

it actually has arrived today

So I'm going to go pick that up at UPS in just a little bit.

So I gotta get moving.

But I'm looking forward to seeing you guys

in about two weeks.

Make sure you like this video,

leave a comment in the section below about

any other sort of videos you'd like to see next,

and I can start organizing by priority

what these sort of things will be.

But above all else, make sure that you subscribe,

and I'll see ya next time!

Plane Crash Survivors - FACT or FICTION - Duration: 13:55.

Human survival has its limitations.

We are vulnerable creatures made of flesh and blood, and there are horrifying circumstances

that we mere mortals are just not designed to withstand.

Or so we're led to believe.

Plane crashes have claimed thousands of lives since the dawn of aviation, and the odds of

living through a fiery crash from 35,000 feet are incredibly slim.

But, every once in a while there are survivors who live to tell their unbelievable version

of events.

Do the following three tales prove that some humans have the strength to survive certain

death, or are they fictional tales of pure luck that never took place?

Can you decide between what's fact.. or fiction?

The line that divides the factual from the unreal has long since blurred, the tales we

once thought fantastical now implanted as truth.

To decipher verity from the imagined, you must break from the ordinary and consider

a universe where the outlandish prevails.

Can you expand your mind to see beyond our perceived reality?

Can you decide what's fact or fiction?

Being a flight attendant is many people's dream career path.

It brings to mind a lifestyle of worldwide travel and endless glamour, but as Anastazie

Alovik soon found out, it can sometimes mean fighting to survive a terrorist attack and

an unbelievable fall.

Story # 1: A Fall From 33,000 Feet 22-year-old Anastazie's had dreamed of being

a flight attendant ever since her best friend landed a job.

She had also recently traveled to the UK - driven by her love of The Beatles.

So, of course, Anastazie further reasoned that a flight attendant job might allow her

to visit her beloved England more often.

Her ambition paid off, and in 1971 she joined the ranks at JAT Airways, Yugoslavia's largest

airline.

Little did she know, it would only be a year before her highs were met with lows.

It was an icy cold January afternoon when flight 349 departed from Stockholm, Sweden,

with stopovers planned in Denmark and what is now Croatia.

Their flight departed Copenhagen Airport as scheduled at 3:15 pm.

Just 46 minutes later, an explosion ripped through the baggage compartment of the DC-9

aircraft.

Believed to be a briefcase bomb, the fireball was so powerful that it tore the plane apart

in mid-air.

Of the 28 passengers and crew on board, Anastazie would go on to be the sole survivor.

She was found in the wreckage screaming, her turquoise uniform dripping in blood.

Although alive, she suffered horrific injuries, including two broken legs, a fractured skull

and pelvis, several broken ribs and three broken vertebrae which caused temporary paralysis.

She then spent several days in a coma and remembered nothing of that fateful day after

greeting passengers boarding the plane; she only learned of the crash two weeks later

when a doctor showed her a newspaper headline, which caused her so much distress that she

had to be tranquilized.

Her death-defying survival in the face of certain death shocked the world and was front

page news.

Perhaps the weirdest part of all, her survival can be attributed to a food cart that trapped

her in the fuselage and her low blood pressure that caused her to immediately pass out.

Humans are resilient creatures, and the state of shock and fear can sometimes allow us to

survive rather impossible situations - but are we really strong enough to survive a fall

from such a height?

Surviving a crash while a pilot is attempting to land is one thing - but to live through

a 33,000-foot free-fall, trapped in only a small section of a plane?

Is that possible?

We want to hear what you think, so let us know in the comment section and be sure to

vote using our on-screen poll.

Next, we're taking a trip to the Indian Ocean to introduce you to 12-year-old Klaire

Lakari, an incredible young girl whose determination led to the survival of an unimaginably terrifying

ordeal.

Story # 2: Horror in the Deep Blue Sea When Klaire and her mother set off from Paris

for a summer vacation in the Comoros Islands near Madagascar, neither of them dreamed that

their day would end in a cruel and punishing fight for survival.

On that fateful day, June 30th 2009, Klaire and her mother were full of excitement as

they set off on what was to be the holiday of a lifetime.

As they boarded Yemenia Flight 545, they chatted excitedly about their trip and all of the

things they wanted to do together during their idyllic island escape.

Sadly, they would never have the chance to live out their plans.

At 1:50 am during the descent into their final destination, something went terribly wrong.

The plane smashed into the ocean just nine miles north of the coastline.

The aircraft broke up as it hit the water at full speed, and Klaire was thrown out into

the unforgiving waters.

Without a lifejacket or the ability to swim, Klaire was certain to perish as she floated

alone in the shark-infested waters of the Indian Ocean.

She clung to a makeshift raft - a piece of the doomed aircraft's fuselage - for more

than nine hours, drifting in the pitch black ocean.

She was certain that if the waters didn't claim her, the sharks within it would.

The cries and moans of other survivors quickly turned to silence, and Klaire was left alone,

floating aimlessly.

152 people on board the Airbus A310 perished, but somehow, Klaire only suffered from a fractured

pelvis and collarbone, burns and some minor facial injuries.

After being picked up by a passing boat, Klaire had to be convinced that she just survived

a plane crash.

Still in a deep state of shock, she thought that she had fallen from the plane after pressing

her forehead too hard against one of its windows.

How can a child who cannot swim survive for 9 hours in the Indian Ocean, after surviving

a plane crash?

Clearly, this tale is too fantastical to be true, right?

Then again, if we've learned anything from this series, it's that Fact is often stranger

than Fiction.

Let us know what you think in the comment section right now and don't forget to vote

using the on-screen poll.

Before we get into the reveal, we have one last high altitude horror story to share with

you.

People fly for business every day, and for some, taking a flight is akin to taking a

bus or a train.

Nobody ever thinks that a routine flight to see a business contact will lead to a terrifying

three day battle for survival in the unforgiving Vietnamese jungle - but for Sangmin Park,

that is exactly what happened.

Story # 3: Jungle Survival 45-year-old Sangmin Park was well adjusted

to taking flights from his home city of Seoul in South Korea.

As a business owner, he often had to travel around the world to visit clients, investors

and stakeholders, and that fateful day of October 21st 1998 was no different.

Booked onto an early morning flight to Singapore, Sangmin made his way to the airport thinking

about the meeting he was to have that evening with a potential new investor.

He boarded the Boeing 737 plane along with 188 other crew and passengers, and they set

off on what should have been a casual 7-hour flight.

The journey of Korean Air flight KE 694 had been completely smooth until, at roughly 9:53am,

a section of the aircraft's fuselage suddenly blew out, creating a gaping hole in the side

of the plane.

Four passengers were immediately sucked out and the plane began to descent uncontrollably

from 30,000 feet.

The plane came down in a ball of fire in the Vietnamese jungle, breaking up as the captain

tried valiantly to come down through the dense trees as smooth as possible.

As sections of the plane broke apart, Samgmin's row of seats became loose, sending two fellow

passengers and himself crashing through the jungle canopy, still strapped in with their

seatbelts.

The fauna helped break their fall, eventually landing upside down on the jungle floor.

With a badly broken arm and lots of painful cuts and bruises, Sangmin freed his seatmates;

both of which, sadly, weren't as lucky as him..

There Samgmin was, by himself, physically broken and at the mercy of mother nature.

Seeing a thick plume of smoke a short distance away, Samgmin decided to trek the woods to

see if there were any other survivors.

It wasn't an easy adventure in his condition, but he managed, eventually stumbling upon

the bigger part of the wreckage.

After a quick search, Samgmin's efforts seemed to be fruitless.

He began to break down, sobbing and unaware of what to do next.

And then, miraculously, a blood-curdling cough could be heard from the cockpit.

Samgmin violently dug through the wreckage, hands covered in blood as he ripped away at

the sheet metal.

Then, there he was - the captain.

He was unconscious, but alive, desperately clenching onto life while still making mayday

calls.

To Samgmin's surprise, there was actually someone on the other end.

Taking the radio, Samgmin was able to better explain what happened and where they were.

The two would sit together until help would arrive about 45 minutes later, but by then,

Samgmin would be alone.

When first responders landed, Samgmin was still holding onto the hands of the pilot,

silently saying "thank you".

Was there a greater force looking out for Samgmin that day?

Is it a coincidence that the pilot stayed alive just long enough to help Samgmin with

a distress call?

Or, maybe, this story was a product of our own imaginations?

Let us know what you think about our jungle tale in the comment section below, and don't

forget to vote now using the on-screen poll.

Are you ready to find out if you can decipher between fact or fiction?

Let's look back at tonight's three stories and find out which were born from reality

and which were fabrications of the imagination.

Let's go back to Anastazie Alovik, our flight attendant who lived through a fall from over

30,000 feet.

Do you think she really could have survived such an incredible fall?

If you said yes… then it might be possible that you've read the Guinness World Book

of Records.

This true tale was inspired by Vesna Vulović, a Serbian flight attendant who holds the record

for the highest freefall without the aid of a parachute.

Until her death in 2016, Vulović remained tight-lipped about the incident and shunned

her celebrity status.

Can you go two for two and guess whether Klaire Lakari really survived a crash that killed

over 150 others?

If you said no.. then you'd be wrong.

This shocking story of survival is completely true.

Bahia Bakari was named the "miracle child" by the media after she was deemed to be the

sole survivor of the deadliest airplane crash in an ocean.

So how about our third story about Sangmin and his adventures through the jungle?

Although it's entirely possible, our version of events was completely penned up by our

own writers.

How well did you do in tonight's video?

Did you look past the deception of our world and define the oft-blurred line that struggles

to separate lies from the truth?

Let us all know in the comment section below and should you find the urge to test your

perceptions again, be sure to subscribe and join us next time when we ask you to decide

Freediving as a Sport or a Means of Surviving (Full Segment) | Real Sports w/ Bryant Gumbel | HBO - Duration: 14:23.

We begin tonight by taking you half way around the world

and far below the ocean's surface,

to look at the mysterious and exceedingly dangerous sport

of freediving.

Now part of the sport's mystique comes from that fact

that it's done in silence, in the dark,

hundreds of feet underwater.

As competitors simply dive as deep as they can,

on a single breath of air.

But there's another lesser known mystery

in the world of freediving.

It's a much more complicated one,

one rooted in race, economics and survival.

Our Jon Frankel explains.

JON FRANKEL: It's part extreme sport,

-part zen meditation. -(WATER BUBBLING)

(AIR ECHOES UNDERWATER)

It's called freediving...

and the rules are simple.

Hold your breath, dive as deep as you possibly can

and try to make it back up... alive.

It's in the same category like action sports,

but we're basically on the exactly opposite end,

because we don't want to have adrenaline when we dive down.

We have the opposite, we have peace and calm--

FRANKEL: Wolfgang Dafert

is a freediving champion from Austria.

He's dived to depths of more than 200 feet

on a single breath of air.

Is there ever a point where you're not focusing

on holding your breath?

You're not focusing

on holding your breath. Never actually.

You're just focused on the technique

because if you focus on the goal,

you will become nervous,

If you're nervous, your heart rate goes up,

you consume more oxygen, and the dive will not work.

FRANKEL: We met Dafert far from his native Austria,

in a place more well suited

to exploring the depths of the ocean,

the Philippines.

The southeast Asian nation that is stretched across

7,000 small islands.

Here in these waters, freedivers from more than

a dozen nations came together last month,

for an international competition.

DIVER: Three... four... five...

(WATER BUBBLING)

STEFAN RANDIG: We have 42 divers, two setups,

so, one is here, one is a bit further back there, um--

FRANKEL: Stefan Randig, a freediver from Germany,

brought the competitors together.

His hope... that they would push each other to new depths,

and set new records for their respective countries.

(WATER BUBBLING)

(DIVERS CHEER)

What just happened there?

That's a record for Indonesia.

Uh...83 or 84 meters.

-More than 260 feet? -Something like that yeah, yeah.

-Pretty impressive. -Yes.

(DIVERS CHEER)

FRANKEL: As with any sport, being the best at freediving

brings rewards.

From endorsements, to magazine covers,

to glory.

But for all the records being set in the Philippines today,

it's far from clear who the best really are.

If you really want to find this country's deepest divers,

and some of the most skilled divers in the world,

you probably won't find them here

or at any other competition.

Instead, you'll need to travel 300 miles south,

to one of the poorest places in the Philippines.

(TOWNSPEOPLE CHATTER)

There are no international sporting events here.

In fact, few foreigners ever come this way,

but the people here hold a remarkable secret.

FRANKEL: Are you one of the best divers here?

-Yes. -What makes you so good?

(SPEAKING FOREIGN LANGUAGE)

FRANKEL: Eldio Gulisan is the spiritual leader

of one of the tribes of fishermen

called the Sama-Bajau.

(WATER SPLASH)

For more than 1,000 years,

the Sama-Bajau have lived an amphibious existence,

surviving on one unique skill,

the ability to dive deep into the sea on a single breath

and kill fish impossibly far below,

before rising to return to the human world.

We visited Gulisan in his village,

a real-life water world, where houses are built on stilts

and where our docked boat was quickly taken over

by future fishermen.

What we see here today, all these kids...

spending hours upon hours in the water,

that's fairly common, that's natural for your people.

(SPEAKING FOREIGN LANGUAGE)

FRANKEL: It's a way of life that dates back

more than 1,000 years where men do battle with octopi,

and where all generations partake in the family business.

They are a people of the sea, are they not?

The gypsies of the sea.

-Gypsies of the sea? -Yeah.

FRANKEL: Wolfgang Dafert is one of the few outsiders

ever to venture into the Sama-Bajau's world.

He was first drawn there after hearing rumors

of a tribe of people, who could effortlessly do

what took him a lifetime of training to learn.

I just saw how easy it is for them to swim,

how easy it is for them to go down,

and even at a young age.

-How young? -Maybe two and half,

three, four years and they are already

hanging onto their father,

while the father is diving down a little bit.

FRANKEL: Dafert would soon befriend Eldio Gulisan,

or Imam Eldio as he's known here.

Dafert and Imam Eldio began spending days together

under the sea.

FRANKEL: Was fishing your language?

Fishing plus broken English.

How different did you find your worlds

when you collided, if you will?

DAFERT: Everything is different.

We used the long fins made out of carbon fiber,

he's using a wooden fin.

We used the wet suits, he has no wet suit at all.

He's making his own spear gun,

and we'd buy it expensive in the shops.

FRANKEL: Imam Eldio's spear gun may be modest,

but he holds on to it for dear life, literally.

(SPEAKING FOREIGN LANGUAGE)

Did you get your spear gun back?

That's victory.

(SPEAKS ENGLISH)

FRANKEL: The fisherman and the freediver

found that they do most things differently,

starting with their last gasp before a dive.

I do the breathing from the belly.

Show us one time?

Yeah, so you see his chest, he's moving.

-So, he does it from up here... -Yeah.

-And you do it from down here. -We learn it in freediving,

and that's the theory that doing it from the belly...

(SUCKS IN AIR) is more efficient because you use your diaphragm,

but I'm not so sure now.

Yeah, is it better to learn it or to live it?

Yeah.

(SPEAKS ENGLISH)

-FRANKEL: Sure. -Yeah, we go diving,

we go fishing now, yeah. Together.

Lost him already.

FRANKEL: Along with his trusty spear gun,

Imam Eldio holds on to a weight called a babet.

That weight will help take him down

to the ocean's floor.

Once he gets to his destination,

his partner pulls the weight back up with a rope.

He doesn't want to have the weight of the rope

close to him because it might scare away the fish.

FRANKEL: And about 60 feet below,

the waiting game begins.

He can stay down here as long as five minutes

before spotting a fish and making his catch.

He'll do about 40 of these dives a day.

Dives like these made Dafert begin to wonder,

how deep could the Sama-Bajau dive

if they weren't wrestling rays or hunting fish?

It was a novel idea for the tribesmen.

Take what they do out of necessity

and see if it could translate

to the competitive sport of freediving.

So Dafert did what he knew best.

He set up a competition... just for them.

He put dive computers

on the competitor's wrists to measure their distances.

At the time, the deepest official Philippino dive

was about 130 feet.

He thought the Sama-Bajau might get close to that.

We expected them in the competition

to go around 30 meters, maybe 100 feet?

FRANKEL: Did the idea of the competition excite you?

(SPEAKING ENGLISH)

FRANKEL: Imam Eldio was one of the competitors.

What did that feel like, to go down that deep?

IMAM ELDIO: (SPEAKS FOREIGN LANGUAGE)

FRANKEL: He would dive nearly 200 feet,

smashing the Philippino record.

Was it satisfying to know how deep you had gone?

(SPEAKS ENGLISH)

You got to see the real numbers?

FRANKEL: And it wasn't just him.

One after another, his fellow tribesmen

kept breaking the old national record.

In fact, one of them actually doubled it,

going down 260 feet.

Were you shocked when you saw

-that kind of a number? -DAFERT: Yes.

I still remember the eyes from, it was a friend of mine

who was then checking the dive computer

when he came up, and telling me then the numbers.

(CHUCKLES)

FRANKEL: Better than you ever did?

DAFERT: Better than I ever did,

and they could have gone down deeper.

-They could have gone deeper? -Yeah.

-FRANKEL: That's right, -(WATER BUBBLING)

'cause the only thing stopping some of the divers

from going even deeper was the ocean's floor.

Some even brought up souvenirs.

DAFERT: They brought up small pieces of stones

or sand to show "I was down there."

So, what exactly makes these men such great divers?

Well, it's a question that recently got an answer.

In a new study that reveals that Sama-Bajau bodies

are in fact, born to dive.

According to researchers,

the Sama-Bajau's aquatic lifestyle has over time,

given them spleens that are about...

fifty percent larger than average.

The result?

A natural oxygen tank

that allows them to hunt underwater

for minutes at a time.

It's one of the reasons why the Sama-Bajau

can survive dives like these, while the mere mortals

of the competitive freediving world

often flirt with death.

(BREATHING APPARATUS BUBBLING)

FRANKEL: In competition, divers often blackout,

losing consciousness due to lack of oxygen.

They must be rushed to the surface,

and coaxed back to life.

(INDISTINCT CHATTER)

FRANKEL: At the event in the Philippines,

organizer Stefan Randig explained all the precautions

being taken to guard against tragedy.

I'll be going down to 150 feet with a scooter,

to meet the diver, if there's any problems,

I can bring the diver back to surface very easily,

and then there are two more additional safety divers

in shallower water.

What are the chances that you'll need somebody today?

Uh, hopefully very little, but, like--

For example, yesterday, we had two blackouts which is...

Of course, we don't want that to happen, but...

looking at the amount of divers,

-it's-- it's... -That's bound to happen?

Yeah. Yeah.

FRANKEL: At the Sama-Bajau competition though,

safety divers were just a formality.

-Did you need any of them? -Nothing.

-FRANKEL: Not one? -Not one.

FRANKEL: Everybody was pretty darn good at it?

DAFERT: Yeah.

FRANKEL: Imam Eldio and his people

haven't had another opportunity to compete since,

so their skills have remained confined

to the world of fishing.

It's an exhausting way to survive,

but it's the only choice they have.

They have little access to education,

resources or money.

And are shunned as outsiders

by mainstream Philippino society,

barely welcomed in their own country.

DAFERT: Well, they don't have the best reputation.

In big cities, they are beggars on the street,

and many people...

uh...

look down a little bit on them.

FRANKEL: I say this with all due respect.

How do you feel

that so many of the people in the Philippines,

look down upon you, and the other Sama-Bajau?

(SPEAKING FOREIGN LANGUAGE)

FRANKEL: Their talent has also gone ignored

by the world of competitive freediving.

Why hasn't anybody from here been able to...

get out and go compete?

It would also--

It would cost money to get there?

(SPEAKS ENGLISH)

Money that most of the people that you live with don't have?

So, Imam Eldio and his people will continue to dive.

Not to gain records or glory, but to survive.

They will catch fish that no one else can.

And that, in a cruel, final twist,

they'll never even get to eat.

Because, it turns out,

they sell their hard-earned prey,

and then buy cheaper fish to feed their families.

It's a hard life. It's a hard life and I think...

I will never be able to understand him.

Because if you really

have to dive every day for your livelihood,

for your children and there's no other way of income,

it's a completely different game,

a completely different story than what we do.

So, I will never deeply be able to understand him.

Thank you for watching.
