Our top story this afternoon...

The trucks started filtering into the deployment site under the cover of darkness.

Key components of the controversial THAAD missile defense system are now inside the

former golf course in Seongju County where the system will be installed.

The equipment transfer comes a matter of days after South Korea and the U.S. signed a land-swap

deal for the site.

Kim Jung-soo has the details.

Beginning at around midnight on Wednesday, U.S. Forces Korea finished moving key components

of the THAAD battery,... including a radar module and two mobile launch systems,... into

the deployment site in Seongju County.

The site previously served as golf course and was originally owned by Lotte Group before

it was purchased by the defense ministry in February.

Hundreds of Seongju residents reportedly tried to stop the U.S. military transports from

entering the golf course, but to no effect.

The THAAD system will now undergo several localization tests... before becoming fully

operational.

The equipment transfer is taking place just six days after a crucial land-swap agreement

was signed by the two countries.

The agreement had confirmed that U.S. Forces Korea will assume control of about 300-thousand

square meters of land... out of the 1-point-5 million square meters that the defense ministry

had acquired from Lotte Group.

Following the agreement, South Korea's defense ministry was scheduled to conduct an thorough

environmental impact analysis that was expected to take up to a month, or even longer, but

it appears the ministry and the U.S. have agreed to replace that process with another

study conducted on a much smaller-scale.

It also appears that U.S. Forces Korea has decided to go ahead with the deployment even

though South Korea has yet to finish installing basic utility systems onto the property,...

which is required under the Status of Forces agreement signed by the two nations.

While defense officials have maintained that the deployment was sped up in light of rising

tensions on the peninsula,...

Korean media also speculate that it's a project being undertaken to ensure that the THAAD

deployment decision is not overturned by the next administration in Seoul after the presidential

election next month.

U.S. brings in key components of THAAD battery into Seongju - Duration: 2:08.

Key components of THAAD have been moved to Seongju County where the U.S. missile defense

system will be installed.

This comes despite strong opposition from local residents.

Kim Jung-soo starts us off with a deeper look at why and how the process is rushed.

U.S. Forces Korea finished moving key components of the THAAD battery -- including a radar

module and a number of mobile launch systems -- into the deployment site in Seongju County,

some 200 kilometers south of Seoul, at around midnight on Wednesday.

The convoy was met by hundreds of Seongju residents, concerned about the system's potential

environmental impact, who tried to block their path -- but to no avail.

The THAAD system will now undergo several localization tests... before becoming fully

operational with the help of incoming components.

The move, which signals that the deployment is underway,... comes just six days after

a crucial land-transfer agreement that was signed by the two nations.

The news came as a surprise to many,.... as South Korea's defense ministry had said just

last week that any significant progress would only begin after a thorough environmental

impact analysis, which they anticipated could take months.

"Based on the way things are developing, we've determined that the deployment will not be

finished in a short period of time."

But it now appears that the ministry has reversed itself somewhat.

"Regarding the U.S. military's decision to expedite the deployment, the defense ministry

said that it will still conduct small-scale environmental tests in the region as the deployment

proceeds."

Observers and Korean media outlets have speculated that the early deployment is being carried

out to minimize the possibility of the deployment decision being overturned or delayed by the

next incoming president.

Meanwhile, the arrival of the components prompted China to renew its objections to the system.

China's foreign ministry on Wednesday urged South Korea and the U.S. to withdraw the system,

as it will only bring more instability to the Korean Peninsula.

US moves THAAD missile de***ce to South Korea as Kim Jong-un threatens NUCLEAR WAR - Duration: 3:59.

US moves THAAD missile de***ce to South Korea as Kim Jong-un threatens NUCLEAR WAR

THE US military has moved parts of its Terminal High Altitude Area Defence (THAAD) anti-missile system to South Korea amid growing fears of the nuclear and missile capability of North Korea.

South Korea's defence ministry confirmed some elements of the THAAD system had arrived at a site in the south of the country, on a plot of land formally used as a golf course.

Television footage showed military trailers carrying elements of the system to the site.

Designed to shoot down missiles at a high altitude from North Korea or elsewhere, the THAAD system is made up of six truck-mounted launchers carrying around 50 interceptor missiles, as well as a fire control and communications unit, which are linked to the very long-range X-band radar system.

In a statement, the ministry said: South Korea and the United States have been working to secure an early operational capability of the THAAD system in response to North Koreas advancing nuclear and missile threat."  .

. The deployment was met by opposition from locals as hundreds of residents clashed with police, protesting against the controversial defence system.

Kang Hyun-wook, a religious figure staging a street rally, told Yonhap News Agency: Police let THAAD equipment pass through [the protests] by repressing them.

The THAAD deployment is illegal and should be nullified. Meanwhile, a spokesman for South Korean president frontrunner Moon Jae-in said the move to deploy the THAAD system was "very inappropriate".

In a statement, Moon's spokesman said the deployment stripped South Korea's next government of the right to make a policy decision on the controversial system.

Chinese officials are likely to be angered by the move, having opposed the deployment of THAAD to South Korea since it was agreed between Seoul and Washington last year.

Tensions between North Korea and the international community have increased significantly in recent weeks, with Pyongyang claiming leader Kim Jong-un had overseen the country's "largest-ever" live-fire drill to mark the 85th founding anniversary of its military.

KCNA, the state-controlled media service, reported: The brave artillerymen mercilessly and satisfactorily hit the targets and the gunshots were very correct, he said, adding that they showed well the volley of gunfire of our a-match-for-a-hundred artillery force giving merciless punishment to the hostile forces." President Trump is due to address the House of Representatives on Wednesday evening in a bid to negotiate a satisfactory method of dealing with the threat from North Korea.

Whether the deployment of THAAD will have a big impact on ties between Washington and Beijing is yet to be seen.

North Korea reveals WHERE nuclear war with 'fanatic' US will break out - Duration: 3:44.

North Korea reveals WHERE nuclear war with 'fanatic' US will break out

NORTH Korea has proof the US is preparing for imminent nuclear war, a Pyongyang newspaper has claimed.

US Marines have arrived in Australia "ready to fight" North Korea should tensions spill over into all-out war. US war chiefs deployed the 1,250 force to Darwin as part of a six month training exercise with Australian and Chinese troops.

But North Korean state-controlled newspaper Rodong Sinmun claims the US is using Australia as a launchpad to wage nuclear war. The newspaper wrote: "This is the largest scale US military presence in Australia after World War 2.

"America is fanatically, crazily trying to optimise its nuclear war readiness.".

The paper reported the story on Monday under the headline: "America prepares for nuclear war in different overseas military deployments". The explosive claims come as a spokesperson for the totalitarian regime accused Australia of "blindly and zealously toeing the US line".

The spokesperson added: "It is entirely attributable to the nuclear threat escalated by the US and its anachronistic policy hostile to the DPRK that the situation on the Korean Peninsula is inching close to the brink of war in an evil cycle of increasing tensions.

"If Australia persists in following the US moves to isolate and stifle the DPRK and remains a shock brigade of the US master, this will be a suicidal act of coming within the range of the nuclear strike of the strategic force of the DPRK.".

But Christopher Pyne, Australia's defence minister, dismissed the claims and said the deployment has been a "longstanding government policy". He said: "It's not in any way a preparation for a conflagration on the Korean Peninsula.

"Obviously, we want to avoid any such military action and we want the North Koreans to behave as well as they can, like reasonable, international citizens.

"That means ending their missile testing and not preparing for a nuclear war with either the United States, Japan, South Korea or anyone else for that matter.".

Donald Trump has sent his biggest nuclear submarine to the Korean peninsula over fears Kim Jong-un may detonate a nuclear bomb today.

As an armada of US war ships approach the region, Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop said the secretive regime must be stopped. In response, the Hermit Kingdom has warned it is ready to fire a nuclear missile at the US mainland.

Australia wants to sign Logistic Support Agreement with India on the lines of US LSA - Duration: 2:48.

Welcome to WARN, Todays News is.

Australia wants to sign Logistic Support Agreement with India on the lines of US LSA

Australia has put forward a proposal to have a logistics support agreement with India on

the lines of the one concluded with the US.

However, yet to take a call on it, India has said that it would first like to get the Logistics

Exchange Memorandum of Understanding (LEMOA) with the U.S. operational.

India and Australia have been expanding their military-to-military cooperation, especially

in the maritime domain, given their shared interests and concerns in the Indian Ocean,

with the rapid expansion of Chinas naval presence in the region.

To facilitate cooperation in this regard, Australia has proposed a logistics agreement

and has already submitted a draft to India. The draft was submitted 18 months back and a response

from India is awaited, a diplomatic source told The Hindu.

However, India has informally conveyed that it would like to first operationalise the

LEMOA with the U.S. and would like to take up other such agreements after that, defence

sources told The Hindu.

Let us first implement what we have signed, we can then access its merits and consider

other agreements based on the necessity, one official said.

Observer status ::

The proposal comes in the backdrop of Australias recent request for observer status during

this years Malabar trilateral naval exercises scheduled to be held in July, as reported

by The Hindu.

While a formal decision has not yet been taken, officials indicated that it may not be accepted

this year.

After a decade of negotiations, India and the U.S. signed LEMOA, the first of the three

foundational agreements, last August.

However, it is yet be operationalised as India had to streamline its administrative procedures.

That process is now almost complete and the Defence Ministry is expected to issue the

notification from its end in the next few days.

At the time of signing LEMOA, defence officials said that that they were open to similar agreements

with other countries as well, depending on the necessity and the advantage that they

would bring

to India.

North Korea 'could do the UNTHINKABLE' Horror nuclear war warnings to US - Duration: 3:52.

North Korea 'could do the UNTHINKABLE' Horror nuclear war warnings to US

KIM Jong-un will press the nuclear red button and do the "unthinkable", it has been warned.

The regime could take the nuclear option if it continues to feel threatened by the world's superpowers, a leading US foreign policy magazine has claimed.

An article in the National Interest stated: "Were North Korea to use a nuclear weapon, it would most likely be in the event of a conflict, if a conflict appeared imminent, or if some external factor posed an immediate threat to the country's survival.

"How each side perceives these conditions varies, making it difficult to determine which actions might push the Pyongyang over the edge." It goes on to say that despite the risk of a nuclear strike being "relatively low", Kims unpredictability means it is a real possibility.

"At the end of the day, Kim Jong-un, while not irrational or crazy as some suspect, is very much a two-dimensional thinker who might decide to do the unthinkable if push came to shove," it added.

It comes after a North Korean defector, who escaped the country last year, said there is a very real chance the hermit state could launch an attack.

Thae Yong-ho predicted in January that despot leader Kim will resort to weapons of mass destruction to cling onto power. "Kim Jong-un knows quite well that a nuclear weapon is the only guarantee for his rule, he said.

If he loses the power then it is his last day. He may do anything.

"I think that Kim Jong-un will press the button if his rule and his dynasty are threatened. "To resolve the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula, there is no other way but to eliminate the Kim Jong Un regime.".

Tensions between the United States and North Korea have reached boiling point in recent weeks. Just yesterday, the paranoid regime claimed it had nukes pointed straight at US military bases in the Asia Pacific and in America.

But Thae, who was North Korea's former deputy ambassador to Britain, stressed the best way to topple Kim is by reaching out to citizens living inside the hermit kingdom.

He explained a "people's uprising" is on the cards, adding: "Low-level dissent or criticism of the regime, until recently unthinkable, is becoming more frequent.

"We have to spray gasoline on North Korea, and let the North Korean people set fire to it." The US military is planning on test firing an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) tomorrow to warn Kim that its nukes are lethal and ready.

The deadly Minuteman III ICBM will be fired from a base in California at about 1pm.
