On today's menu we're here at Tenpines and we're going
to learn how to build defenses that
are going to protect all settlement so
we don't need to worry anymore every
time that we read the message that our
settlement is under attack because it's
super annoying you can always use the mod
yeah but I don't want to use the mod
you know I always try to keep my list
of mods minimal and I really rather in
terms of role-playing game I really
rather to make my settlements effective
in a way that they don't really need me
or a mod to go helping them every time
they need help I want them to be able to
help themselves it would be great if
they started by building their own beds
but this is not going to happen so at
least i'm going to give them good defenses
and by the way the echo that
you are hearing in this audio it's not
because I change my style is because
I am doing some real life building at home
and the room where i usually record my videos is now empty
So I have lots of echo
I'm doing some major changes in this room
I want to turn it into my YouTuber room which is a great
excuse for you know at a little
decoration because one of the reasons
why I absolutely adore building in
Fallout 4 is because i am a frustrated decorat and unfortunately i don't have
the budget and even less the space
Because we live in the Batcave
Yes we do, but actually having our youtube channel
is proven to be a great excuse to
rebuild all this area because I couldn't
find a better excuse because we all know
that this channel is not big enough
Well, it's bigger than your whole flat
The bad part is that this is lots of work and
I'm doing it myself and I needed to hire
someone to help me out with the most
difficult parts because some are very
difficult for just one person which also
means that unfortunately this week I'm
not going to be able to upload lots of
videos mostly mostly because I need to
remove the computer from here
and I don't know where I'm going to put it
and also the modem for the internet which means
that i'm not going to have internet to
upload them
Shit! Where am I going to watch the porn?
But yes once i'm done with the
desk part i will be able to put the
computer back here, to put the internet again
and I will be able to do videos
again although as I said I don't have
lots of time because I spend my day
painting and painting more and painting even more
We need a real life mod for THAT
So back to the building: DEFENSES
it is common knowledge that
you need to put defenses with equal the
resources that you have in your settlement
that are the food and water
but the thing is that after several
experiments I realized that the amount
of settlers that you have in a
settlement also modifies the amount of
defense that you need to avoid being
raided but I must confess that even
though I did lots of tests I couldn't
find out exactly what was exactly the
number but the thing is that if you go
crazy with the defenses you are not going
to find any kind of problem at all
this is even more common sense
And a good excuse to put turrets everywhere
So the first intelligent thing to do is to fence your
settlement and in here we build the
typical scrappy wall that if you want to
see how to build it i'm going to put a
link in description to another video
where i built the scrappy wall
and the thing is that you really need to be
careful here because there are
settlements were the raiders spawn inside
so knowing the spawning point is important
and also if you fence the
settlement make sure that you don't go
to the borders of the buildble area
Because if you do you're not going to be able to put turrets
Exactly so as you could see here
I put turrets all around my fence in the outside part
and to do so I used this lovely stand from covenant that
you can find in the mod Unlocked
Settlement Objects by AndrewCX
plus in here I have to settlers in the
defense that I like to dress them as
military or something like that this way
they stand out and I can see if they
didn't show for work so in total I have
124 defense in
this settlement which is great because
I have 14 in resources but most
probably i'm going to put more water in
the future but the most useful thing in
the defenses of the settlement is that
we're going to build a door that is
going to keep raiders away from your
settlement to do this we need a powered door
obviously and then a siren and a
logic gate and this is the simplest
version of it let me know if you'd like
to see our version that is more complex
because I have versions with all
possible levels of complexity but for
this video I thought that the best thing
that I could do was keep it simple and useful
So the logic gate that we are
going to use in here is NAND logic gate
and what this logic gate does is that it
transmits power unless all inputs have
power so why do we do it this way?
Because one of the inputs that we are
going to put is a siren and sirens
detect when you are being raided and
when they detected they turned on and
when they turn on they transmit power so
the two inputs of the logic gate are
going to be in one hand electricity
regular one and on the other one the siren
so we're going to have the inputs 1 and 0
which means that this logic gate is going to transmit power
and the next thing that we are going to do is adding
a switch because I said that this was
the most simple version but we don't
want to make it absolutely simple and I
didn't realize when I was building this
but I wrongly connected to switch to the
input of the logic gate instead of the
output and that's the reason why when I
complete the whole circuit it doesn't work
and the next thing that we are going to do is that
we are going to rug-glitch a conduit
that's the way how we are going to wire this switch to the
switch that we are going through put
outside because if you rug-glitch the
conduit this is the best way to move it
without the wire affecting the snapping
so yes we have to conduit it in here
so, what we are going to do in here is that
we're going to put a switch in the
outside part of the door and this switch
is going to be powered by the switch in
the inside of the wall. why?
Because this way you can block the door from the inside
but you can also close it from
the outside when you leave the
settlement if you want to leave it
closed because you know the settlers are
not going to open the door by themselves
I don't know why but they just don't do it
This adds a little extra security
if you don't trust your settlers
so, in here, again, we are rug-glitching a conduit to
give power to the door from this switch
in the outside of the door to the door itself

where I'm putting the item but it doesn't
matter because it's rug-glitched
I can move it afterwards and again as I
mentioned before this is not working
because the switch of inside is plugged to
the logic gate in the input and not in
the output as it should be
So if we connect switch to the output of the
logic gate as it should've been in the first place
everything works perfectly fine
and the door opens and if the siren is
triggered what it does is automatically
closes the doors and there is no way to
open them until the siren is off
and this also means that you need to make
sure that you put your most powerful
turrets in front of the door and this
way what they're going to see is that
corpses pile up in front of it
I've seen it in a couple of settlements of
mine and they take a little to despawn
so I have you know
A pile of dead people in underwear?
well actually yes because I take everything they have so
once that everything is connected and
only after you check that everything
works perfectly fine we can pillar-glitch
all or conduits inside the walls this
way we are not going to see them and
it all is going to looks perfectly neat and cute
