Session 225 Chapter 2
Verse 213 a continuation
Mankind was a single community, then God sent prophets to bring good news and warning, and
with them He sent the Scripture with the Truth, to judge between people in their disagreements.
It was only those to whom it was given who disagreed about it after clear signs had come
to them, because of rivalry between them.
So by His leave, God guided the believers to the truth they had differed about: God
guides whoever He will to a straight path.
(Chapter 2: Verse 213) We know that guidance refers to that which
takes you directly towards your goal.
There are two types of Guidance: first there is God's general guidance, and second, there
is His divine guidance.
General guidance is universal for entire mankind.
More specifically, God calls everyone to the right path; He sends prophets and messengers
and supports them with miracles and scripture to deliver his message to everyone.
God clarifies the outcome of those who follow His path and those who abandon it.
So whoever wants to follow the right path can do so, and whoever chooses to abandon
it can do so.
As for those who choose to follow God's general guidance, the Lord supports them with
his divine guidance; he endears faith and piety to their hearts and facilitates for
them the actions that lead to paradise.
God protects them from evil and helps them through hardship.
This divine guidance is specific for the believers.
God says: As for those who follow true guidance, He
leads them far ahead in their right ways and grants them piety and restraints from evil
suited to their condition.
(47:17) Let's clarify the difference between general
and divine guidance with an example.
Say that you were lost and asked a policeman for directions towards your destination.
The policeman gives you a map to help you find your way; it is the same general map
he gives to everyone.
If you show appreciation for him and say: "thank you for your help, you have made
things so much easier for me."
The policeman may decide to help you further by highlighting the best way for you to take.
He will warn you about roads that have construction and traffic and about areas that are not safe
at night.
Allah guides all humanity towards His path and then guides the believers even further
by being with them every step of the way.
God says: As for the tribe of Thamood, We gave them
guidance, but they preferred blindness, so they were struck by a blast of humiliating
punishment for their misdeeds.
Yet We saved those who believed and were mindful of God.
(41:17-18) You can further see the distinction between
the two types of guidance in the following two verses.
In the first verse, God addresses the Prophet and says:
You cannot guide everyone you love to the truth; it is God who guides whoever He will:
He knows best those who will follow guidance.
(28:56) And in another verse, God also addresses the
prophet and says: and you certainly guide them to the right
path (42:52) At first glance these two verses are in contradiction:
One verse denies the prophet guidance, and the other affirms that the prophet guides.
How can this be?
We answer that our beloved prophet Muhammad is the means of delivering God's book and
general guidance to humanity.
He lit the path towards heaven for everyone.
Allah confirms: 'and you certainly guide them to the right path.
On the other hand, the verse 'Surely you cannot guide whom you love, but Allah guides
whom He pleases' means that while the prophet delivers the message, God is the one who makes
guidance –His divine guidance- penetrate into the heart of a person.
Allah says: Say, 'Indeed it is the guidance of Allah which is the true guidance.'
(2:120) Some people try to dissociate themselves from
the responsibility of faith and deed and blame God for their disbelief.
They use verses like this one for evidence: What about those whose evil deeds are made
alluring to them so that they think they are good?
God leaves whoever He will to stray and guides whoever He will.
Do not waste your soul away with regret for them: God knows exactly what they do.
(35:08) The disbelievers think that the phrase ' God
leaves whoever He will to stray and guides whoever He will' will save them from hell-fire
on the day of resurrection because God is responsible for misguiding them.
They claim that since God had willed them to disbelief, what were they to do?
We answer that a person who blames God for a choice that he or she made has not studied
the Quran.
Let's look at the following verses: That is because they preferred the worldly
life over the Hereafter and that God does not guide the disbelieving people.
(16:107) And in another verse:
Abraham said, "So indeed it is Allah Who brings the sun from the East - you bring it from
the West!" - the disbeliever was therefore baffled; and Allah does not guide the unjust.
(2:258) And lastly,
Say, 'If your fathers, sons, brothers, wives, tribes, the wealth you have acquired, the
trade which you fear will decline, and the dwellings you love are dearer to you than
God and His Messenger and the struggle in His cause, then wait until God brings about
His punishment.'
God does not guide those who are corrupt.
(9:24) These verses clearly highlight the three groups
of people who do not receive God's guidance: the disbelievers, the corrupt and the unjust.
Allah sent His Prophets & Messengers, His scriptures, and His guidance to all mankind.
Moreover, He created the universe and subjected it to our service, so each one of us may ponder
the creation.
Sadly, many people opposed God, refused to listen to His Messengers, followed their own
desires, and took the beauty of creation for granted.
The truth is: Allah has blessed humanity with His general guidance, and provided all of
us with countless bounties.
He came forth with love and mercy.
Those who responded to this love with denial, and chose disbelief did so with their own
free will.
In response, God left them for what they chose and did not force belief upon them.
Had God wanted to force belief or disbelief on us, He would have done so.
In fact, God has demonstrated to you that He can have absolute power over you if He
so wills.
Take the examples of your internal organs; they operate entirely outside your will.
Your heart, blood circulation, kidneys, and liver are subjected to God's will.
Likewise, the calamities that may happen to you are out of your control.
You cannot prevent disease, a car crash or a rock from falling on you.
Allah, however, did not want to force belief or disbelief on anyone.
He gave you full control over one area of your life: your choices and actions.
Are you going to use these great gifts to practice God's teachings?
This freedom of choice is what you and I will be responsible for on the day of resurrection.
If you choose disbelief for yourself, God does not force you to believe; rather, He
informs you of the consequences.
Allah wants you to freely turn to Him out of love.
He does not benefit from your faith and deeds; the benefits and rewards will be for you alone.
Faith in Allah and the actions that support that faith are your personal treasures on
the day of resurrection; they are your salvation on that terrible day.

Pack With Me - Carry On Only For Panama - Duration: 14:16.
hey cruisers welcome back we have not done a pack with me video in quite some
time and today we're excited because we're doing something totally different
those of you who hang out with us all the time I already know we are getting
ready to embark on a 10 night Panama Canal and Caribbean cruise and our
challenge for ourselves is to do this carry-on only so what we're going to be
doing is packing into this backpack and this carry-on bag for our tonight crews
and I want to just give you a little disclaimer that these are just my
packing items each of us in the family so myself my husband and my son are
going to be taking one personal item which in my case and in all of our cases
is a backpack and one rolling suitcase for purposes of this video I'm just
gonna show you what I'm packing I actually am going to be shouldering the
burden of all of the TSA liquids and things like that so we feel like it's
more a challenge to be packing into my suitcases in there so that's what we're

so I am grooving on my ship mate right now there are four just the Caribbean
princess alone there are over 1000 reviews on that ship in 1300 photos so
I'm really enjoying interacting on my roll call and just hanging out with
everybody who's getting ready to go on the ship looking at all the new pictures
that come in it's really fun and awesome so that is where we're going you guys
and what we're gonna do today is we're gonna start by actually packing my
personal item which is a backpack this is a new backpack that I got on Amazon
from a brand called Oricsson and the reason that I bought a new backpack for this
trip you guys is because this one is water-resistant
and we were going to be in some very rainy tropical areas and I felt like I
needed something that had just a little bit more you know protection against
that water so that's why I got a new one it's slightly smaller than my other
backpack and so I think it's like a thirty liter or something like that I'm
not really sure how that works but we will link to this new backpack in the
description below as with many of the other products that we're showing you
today and of course our sponsor link which we would love for you to check out
when the video gets saved to replay so let's start by explaining what's gonna
go into this backpack and after I show you everything that's going inside I'm
gonna prove to you that it actually all fits so the first thing that I have here
is my sunglasses and those sunglasses are going to go in one of these outside
pockets I do have a pair of fluffy socks that are already packed into this little
sucker because I get really cold on airplane so I always have to have fuzzy
socks really warm fuzzy socks and then I have my passport neck wallet along with
my highlighter pen and a regular pen which is really important to take on
flights and cruises that you can sign away when you have customs forms things
like that believe it or not the flight staff do not have pens that's really
important I've met passports in here I have all of my dollar bills for tipping
here and then I have just my boarding passes for my flight here I actually do
not put my cruise luggage tags or my cruise boarding passes in this I'm going
to show you where those go later but those are going to go right in the
outside pocket the things that are gonna go inside the back pack are gonna be the
shawl that I'm using to keep myself warm on the plane and on my entire cruise
this is a major space saver by only taking one shawl instead of a whole
bunch of sweaters and things like that that's gonna save me a ton of space this
is my hanging toiletry bag you may see me actually taking a new one by the time
we go on the cruise because we just received a new product to review that is
the toiletry bag but for now I'm already packed into this one so I'm gonna show
you this this little guy has a bunch of pouches and up here I have the basic
things that you always see me packing so I have chapstick earplugs nail files
q-tips here I have makeup removal wipes Cottonelle wipes things like that and
down here we have all of our toothbrushes razors toothless oak and
even my sleep mask because I want to keep this close by for that first night
in the hotel so this is my hanging toiletry bag
next up I'm going to show you my tsa approved plastic bags that we're going
to need to present on boarding our airplane this is the first of the TSA
bags and in this what we have is some shampoo packet it's my husband's shave
cream my daily sunscreen we have got some body oil and an amazing self-tanner
that is so fabulous and I'm going to be doing a review all about just this one
product over on cruisegear toothpaste it looks like we have some antibiotic
ointment in here and some face wash and that pretty much sums up tsa bag number
one TSA bag number two is kind of a mixed bag of other items you'll notice
in here that I actually have detergent I have a wool light liquid and I also have
some Tide Pods in a little plastic bag I separated them into their own plastic
bag we will be doing a ton of laundry on this cruise because I understand from
people who are in the Panama Canal right now who are doing this itinerary that it
gets really humid and there's a lot of sweating that goes on so changing
clothes two to three times a day may very much be the case so we've got lots
of detergent here I have some travel size sunscreen but not a lot because
we're gonna go ahead and buy that when we get into our our first stop in Fort
Lauderdale and then of course more toothpaste more sunscreen and basically
just some other liquid things that we know that we're going to need so that
sums up our TSA liquid bags then I have my usual paperwork folder in my
paperwork folder I have our luggage tags for our our bags once we get to the
cruise port I have my travel summary here my booking information and I
believe that this also contains my boarding passes I have my wall-mount
itinerary behind here and then I have some thank-you cards and things for
people that we meet and some sticky notes so this is gonna go in my backpack
and then just we're down to the last few items that are going into the backpack I
was shocked to you guys that I was able to get this in the backpack but I
actually did it with room to spare so it can be done this is our medicine bag
we've gone over this before so I won't go into too much detail but basically
pain reliever allergy medication cold medication band-aids and any kind of
extra necessities even Kleenex tissue in here that you might need this stays with
me at all times this is actually my makeup bag now this
is an area I really had to pare down a very dear friend to cruisetipstv Bethany
sells lip sense on Facebook had sent me this bag and it's kind of a wet bag so
the inside of it is waterproof so I thought that would be really nice in
case it needed to double as a swimsuit bag or something like that's all my
makeup isn't here that was tough but I did it
next up last thing last pouch is my little cell phone pouch this has a set
of headphones a charger and a little portable charger and then of course our
little wall cube for our iPhones for charging so this is going to be a nice
little grab-and-go charging so really quickly let's go ahead and pack
everything into the backpack because I want to show you guys that it actually
does work so I'm going to start with this guy here and here we go
not too shabby and there's even room to spare I did I put my passport in here
yes I did so this is not overstuffed you guys feeling really good about this I
thought that it was going to be very difficult to get this backpack to where
we want it to be so let's switch gears and let's look at my actual carry-on
stuff now I'm not gonna pack the suitcase because I don't want to put it
up here on the table and you guys are just gonna have to trust me that it all
fits but I'm gonna give you a little review of what's gonna be going into
that suitcase now full disclosure I do have a teeny tiny bit of room if I need
it in my son's little suitcase because this stuff is tiny and he's also you
know shoes are small and he doesn't have things like curling irons and stuff like
that so this is what we're going to be taking I'm actually taking a day bag on
this little trip so that when I'm roaming around the ship in the morning
before my family gets up I usually put a bunch of stuff in this I put some
cameras in there to get some footage my phone I usually have a coffee mug for my
husband things like that so this is my room and around the ship and my port day
bag if I don't really want to be using a backpack so I think this is worth the
extra space in my bag some of you might think this is frivolous but to me it was
worth laying flat on the bottom of the suitcase I'm going to show you the shoes
I'm packing really quickly I'm going to be putting these two pair right here in
the suitcase so we have my normal nude wedges which I'm wearing every single
night on this cruise even formal night and my flip-flops now what I'm going to
do is put these two in the suitcase okay and then on the plane it's my not so
fancy sneakers I'm gonna be wearing them because they are the most bulky thing to
pack so that's definitely gonna happen we also have my curling iron this is
critical and that will be going in at the very last minute I'll kind of like
wedge it in the side of the bag right probably the best way to do it so I'm
gonna show you how we're doing these three packing cubes guys it all fit into
three and I may even be taking this thing down a little bit so let's
reposition a little bit I'm having a little zipper snag there because it's
slightly overstuffed but this particular bag contains my rash guards all of my
bras and underwear a hat all my swimsuits my bathing suit cover-ups
which are rolled up like this one workout outfit a couple of sports bras
and basically that's eight you guys I'm not even really packing pajamas on this
trip I'm gonna be using kind of my walk around the ship types of pants to double
as loungewear to save some space that's one thing that
I did to kind of cut down on space so this is packing cube number one so
undies swimsuit swimsuit cover-up things like that and as you can see it's really
fully stuffed so I will need to reassess this is more my utility bag is that nice
and centered Mr. CruiseTipsTV okay good making sure you guys can see this
so there's still a little room to spare on this one this is my laundry bag so
this doesn't have detergent in it but this has the other things that I need
like a tide pen shout wipes and some whitening type detergent that I can use
in place of bleach this is a bag of hand sanitizing wipes these are the lounge
pants I was telling you about that I can wear with a hoodie around the ship in
the morning with my sneakers or whatever I could workout in them but it could
also double as pyjamas so that's kind of nice one pair of athletic socks because
I can wash them this is the little purse that I'd like to use I bought this at
Express many years ago this is what I like to take to dinner with my phone my
lipstick some hand sanitizing wipes and my cruise card and this is it for
walking around the ship it's kind of dressy looks good with my nude wedges so
that's kind of my little mini night purse and then this is our cruise
utility bag it's pretty hard to show you guys everything that's inside it so I'm
just gonna summarize and kind of give you a little peek but this has our non
surge power strip our travel alarm clock all of the lanyards that we put around
our neck for our cruise cards a bunch of magnets for myself and for my mom's room
who's sailing with us and some other things like more sticky notes and an
extra set of headphones things like that so this is all the utility stuff that
we're going to need right when we get in this is a pop-up hamper which is
wonderful in a cruise your laundry's not piling up on the floor so this is kind
of a utility bag guys this is packing cube number two we are now going to take
a look at the last packing cube which quite frankly is definitely the biggest
of the packing cubes because it has all of
clothes in it literally all of my clothes are in this including all of my
dresses which normally you guys see me pack on hangers but we rolled pretty
much everything except the stuff on top which is folded so here we go this is
what's inside there's a lot of stuff in here I'm taking three pair of shorts
which you will see all of this stuff put to use you guys in a what to wear or
outfit of the day video after the cruise so I'm not gonna go into great detail
about what's in the bag stay tuned for that video and you'll see it on but
these are three pair of shorts quite a few shirts and then the reason I've
opened this up is because I really want to show everybody how I rolled all of my
dresses and the rest of my clothes for this trip so what you're seeing here is
a bunch of my dresses so about seven dresses for ten nights there will be
some rewiring and several t-shirts and a belt so we've got a variety of different
things and I'm really I've like surprised myself that everything fit in
here I did have to pull some things out and just realize that it's gonna be okay
and that I can re wear things I can wash things I can do repeats that this is you
know this is what we set our mind to so this is the way it's gonna be so you
guys that is it all of that stuff definitely does fit into my roxy
carry-on this is cabin approved i double-checked the measurements for
JetBlue and we're good to go so what do you guys think I would like
to say I did it I did it I'm just so proud of myself I am so proud of myself
I knew this is really exciting and my husband and son have done it too my
husband's bag is pretty packed because he's camera guy he's got a big old
tripod in there and he's a big guy his pants are like three times the size of
my shorts so for him it was more of a challenge and I think he's taking his
pillow too so it's been very exciting thank you guys so much for all your

Call Me By Your Name: A Stunning Look At Love - Video Essay - Duration: 5:09.
Call Me By Your Name is absolutely gorgeous, with its lush and vivid cinematography being
second only to, what I believe, is the most beautiful movie ever made - this year's
Blade Runner 2049.
Call Me By Your Name has been receiving amazing reviews for quite a while now, since it made
its debut at Sundance in January this year.
Critics and general audiences have been praising its subtle but deeply emotional and effective
story of two young people falling in love at the backdrop of a sun-soaked northern italian
setting.
The acting is excellent, especially Armie Hammer, who has had a rocky career to say
the least.
There are also a lot of long and one takes, which I love in this age of cinema as we don't
get enough one takes in movies anymore.
And these long takes are just of people doing random things - living, soaking in this picturesque
utopia.
But having said all of this, and acknowledging that Call Me By Your Name is most definitely
one of the best movies of 2017 (it will get nominated for Best Picture, you can bet your
money on it) for me the standout, best part of this film is just how vital the setting
is to the plot and how director Luca Guadagino incorporates the setting into the main plot
of the movie, the growing, intimate love story between Elio and Oliver, our two main characters.
Northern Italy, the italian countryside, and the holiday home the movie takes place in
are basically major characters.
They have personalities, they have huge influences on the people living there, much like real
life.
Guadagino focuses so much attention on every little detail in this countryside, from the
slightly dirty rivers the characters constantly swim in, to the insects that fly into frame
during close-ups as if right on q, to the small quaint bars both Elio and Oliver go
to sometimes when they hang out, to the locals who are so friendly and quiet themselves.
At one point in the movie, and this is how much the film and Guadagino take their time
telling this love story - Elio and Oliver go on a bike a ride and stop by an older woman
and ask her for two glasses of water.
Like it's a normal everyday occurrence in this italian countryside - the film was shot
in the small village of crema, lombardy - she instantly goes inside her home and gives them
water.
It was such a small scene and exchange, but it stayed with me long after the credits rolled
because it is just one of many scenes that expertly breathes life into this setting.
It's transformative, majestic, charming, and brings Elio and Oliver that much closer
to each other.
I can't remember the last time I was this in love with a place and time - the film takes
place in 1983, by the way.
Another amazing, subtle, but highly effective thing Guadagino does is he includes several
different languages throughout the film.
Elio speaks italian and english in the same sentence quite often, and there are plenty
of subtitles to read throughout the film's 2 and a half hour runtime.
It's just another extra filmmaking choice that goes a long way in turning this small
village into a place you so desperately want to travel to and never leave.
And it's very, very important that Guadagino allows the audience to get to intimately know
and understand this village because of the effect it has on its main characters and the
growing love between elio and oliver.
As briefly mentioned, It sort of awakens their love for one another and especially Elio's
sexual desires, who's 17 in the movie and is just starting to understand and acknowledge
these types of strong feelings.
Heck, without spoiling much, even a piece of fruit plays a huge role in Elio's sexual
maturity.
The italian countryside is major conduit in oliver and elio's sexual awakenings.
The costume design in the film, like the setting, has this same effect as well, as all of the
characters wear very little clothing in the summertime.
Elio, for the most part, walks around only in his swimming trunks.
Like the rest of the film this choice of clothing is simple, subtle, both hard to miss and difficult
to notice, but incredibly impactful.
And the soundtrack is so so good.
There are a few original tracks from Sufjan Stevens that are heartbreaking and Guadagino
uses music from the likes of John Adams and Ryuicihi Sakamoto, and they also play an effect
on the story that's taking place here.
So, I guess you can say I love this movie, especially the way Guadagino captures the
five senses here making you feel a part of this intimate love story.
Is it my favorite movie of the year so far?
No, as I think Blade Runner 2049 still takes that number one spot.
And Call Me By Your Name is definitely not for everyone because, like 2049, it's very
slow-paced and subtle.
It demands your focus, your attention in order to catch every detail.
It's both heartbreaking and hopeful, and undoubtedly a beautiful piece of filmmaking.
