Why do phones get so much slower over time? - Planned Obsolescence or tech fact? - Duration: 6:15.
If you have ever owned a smart phone, which is almost a certainty for most people nowadays,
you have probably noticed that they get noticeably slower and less responisve over time.
So, let's take a look at why that is.
At the sound of what I've just said, many people will jump up and shout "planned obsolescence",
but we'll leave that for the end of the video.
Right now, we're going to look at the actual technical reasons for this apparent decrease
in performance.
Let's dig in.
First of all, the hardware in your phone is most likely just as powerful as it was when
you first bought it.
What has changed is the software.
You see, a lot of apps don't actually close when you exit them and instead continue running
in the background.
In this state, they use less RAM and processing power, but they are nonetheless taking up
a percentage of those valuable system resources.
The catch here is that, when you buy your phone, it doesn't come with a lot of apps
installed.
Sure enough, you have the usual youtube, facebook and any other software that your phone carrier
saw fit to put on your device.
However, this is nothing compared to the stuff that most people end up installing on their
phones over time.
And, as with anything, these background processes, while they may start small, can have a pretty
big impact on your phone's performance if you allow them to build up.
But let's assume that you are a knowledgeable and careful phone user who likes to meticulously
manage their installed applications.
This may will still not save you.
Mobile technology is constantly advancing, with faster and faster processors, graphics
chips and phones getting more and more RAM memory and storage space.
This means that newer phones will undoubtedly have superior performace compared to your
1 or 2 year old device.
And, while it may seem that this should in no way affect you, that is not quite true,
because apps on your device and even the operating system (Android or iOS) will keep receiving
updates.
Sadly, those updates are designed with newer and faster phones in mind and might not be
optimised for slightly older and slower decives such as yours.
This means that they might use a bigger percentage of your phone's resources, consequently
not running as efforlessly as before.
One other thing working against you is the actual storage space on your phone.
You see, phones use NAND Flash memory for their storage, which might sound familiar
if you know a thing or two about PC solid state drives.
In fact, your phone's storage bares a lot of similarities to those SSD's, which is
great, because that means that it's really blazing fast.
However, another important thing that you have to keep in mind about SSDs is that, due
to the way that they store data, they tend to get slower and slower the closer they get
to being full.
And, while that may not be that big of an issue for phones with 64 or 128GB of storage,
those stuck with 16GB phones may end up constantly having their storage space almost but not
quite full, thus making their phones feel a lot slower.
So what can you do?
Well, there's a few things.
First of all, if you notice that you have installed apps that you're not using, uninstall
them and don't let them build up.
Secondly, clean your phone every once in a while.
And by that I don't mean taking a vacuum cleaner to it.
What i mean is clearing up your storage space.
Delete the cache memory that has built up, back your photos up to your computer or to
a service such as google photos and then delete them from your phone, remove any files that
are no longer needed or that have been left behind after an app uninstall and so on.
If all else fails, you can just back up your contacts and data and then perform a factory
data reset, which ought to make your phone speedy once more.
And now, here's the thing that everyone thinks is happening but no manufacturers have
admitted to.
Or at least not until recently, but more on that later.
Many people claim that phone manufacturers artificially limit their older phones' performace
through software updates to make people buy their newer products.
And, in a turn of fate that shocked absolutely nobody, this has so far been vehemently denied
by phone manufacturers.
And then Apple pulled an Apple and, after being asked by an online news publication
about their odd slow-downs, admitted to throttling devices with older batteries.
What seems pretty odd is that in december 2017, just over a year after it's release,
they started doing the same to the iPhone 7, with them openly admitting that they were
planning to continue doing this to newer phones as time went on.
At first, this seems very slimy and also quite stupid.
However, there are actual technical reasons behind it.
What may or may not come as a surprise, is that these reasons just make the whole situation
look slimier and more stupid.
Here's what is actually going on: Lithium-Ion batteries degrade over time when it comes
to the peak power that they can supply.
What apple was doing was it was running its phones so close to the battery's power ceiling
in order to be able to claim that they had the fastest phone, that the moment the battery
started wearing down, it could no longer support the phone's power demands.
Therefore, the phone would suffer unexpected shutdowns when the battery failed to deliver
the expected juice to the components.
To avoid this, apple slows down their phones after a while to make them use less power.
The stupid slimy thing about this whole thing is that Apple is advertising and selling their
products as the best and fastest on the market, knowing full well that that is only going
to be true for a few months to a year, because the phone's speeds aren't sustainable
and they would be hammering the performance of the same phone soon enough in order to
make sure that this artificial marketing boost doesn't lead to device malfunctions.
So, big thumbs down to apple for this one and also to any other manufacturers who are
doing it and had enough marketing brains not to disclose it to the full public.

How To Iron A Suit, Blazer or Sport Coat - How To Press Suits, Sleeves, Back... Gentleman's Gazette - Duration: 12:46.
Welcome back to the Gentleman's Gazette and part four to our series about ironing.
Today we discuss how to iron a suit jacket or press a sport coat.
Many people are hesitant to press a jacket and even a tailor can sometimes takes 30 to
45 minutes to completely and accurately press a jacket.
Unfortunately the procurement tailors use is very expensive but I'll still show
you a way on how you can press a jacket at home with a very minimal investment in equipment.
First of all the easiest way to remove wrinkles from a jacket especially that is made out
of wool is with the steam.
The least expensive way is to hang your jacket on a hanger with
wide shoulder pads because it keeps the shape of the shoulder and then simply hang it in
your bathroom, turn on the hot water, let it sit in there so you create a lot of steam.
Let the jacket hang there overnight in the morning at least the most extreme wrinkles
should have come out.
An even better and faster alternative to the bathroom is to invest in a steamer.
Usually about 100 bucks will get you a long way then you will end up something that produce
a lot of steam and you could just steam your jacket when it hangs on a hanger.
It has the advantage that you can de-wrinkle specific areas such as the sleeve head, the
sleeve or the back and honestly it works really really well.
I had a suit shipped to me in very little packages and they came out looking really
really bad but if it's a quality cloth it will release wrinkles when it's steamed as
long as it is made of wool.
If you have a jacket like with linen or cotton you'll have to iron out and press it.
They're a little more difficult to iron but it's not impossible.
If you have a linen jacket you can skip the cloth because it can bear a lot of heat you
just crank up the temperature all the way and you go to the maximum steam setting.
The more steam the better!
If you just have a regular ironing board and an iron you're quite limited in what you can
do when it comes to pressing.
The easiest areas are flat areas such as the front quarters maybe the pockets and the pocket
flaps the center back seam and if you really want to you can also try yourselves on the
sleeves.
Just like with pants, drying two layers of fabric on top of each other which is not ideal
but doable.
If you want to iron your jackets at home I strongly suggest to invest about $35 into
a sleeve board and into a tailor's ham. Those two things will make it much easier to iron
your jacket and you can actually iron any part of the jacket to achieve a really wonderful
good proper result.
If money is of no concern to you definitely invest in that vacuum table because it sucks
away all the steam and it will give you better result without any waves and it's just also
quicker to iron.
First, I suggest you start with the body and you can lay it over the tip of the ironing
board similarly to a shirt.
Carefully work on the front quarters.
To prevent your jacket from getting shiny it pays to have a pressing cloth which could
be made of linen maybe an old t-shirt that you cut and generally want something that
has no lint and no fuzz.
Simply put between the iron and the garment and pull at the edges so you can see what's
going on while you iron.
The next step up from this is to get a Teflon sole because it will prevent the fabric from
getting shiny but you can see everything that's going on.
Once you're done with the front quarters it's time to go to the lapels.
Personally I really much prefer to iron the lapels on a tailor's ham and a sleeve board
because you get that natural rounding that the lapel has on your body.
A quality handmade jacket is always identifiable by their lapel roll.
Cheap suits or some that were pressed cheaply have very flat pressed lapel area and you
should avoid that at all cost because it makes it look cheap and you don't want that.
To increase the lapel roll you can even iron the lapel in the beginning part from the back
which really helps to achieve this beautiful bespoke style roll.
Don't iron over the lapel line that's folded because otherwise it's stiff and flat.
Once you're done with that you could iron the back area of the jacket.
That's easily done even on a regular ironing board with a regular iron.
Just pay attention to the seams which is the center seam and try to not press hard on them
but slightly on the side that way you won't see the pattern of the seams on the outside
of the fabric.
That's especially important with thinner more flimsy fabrics.
The same is true when ironing for example the corners of your back vents.
If you want a crisp result you can use a clapper to get that nice crease.
Next up it's time to iron sleeves and that's when a sleeve board comes in really really
handy.
Better than ironing two layers of fabric at the same time I prefer to have one layer of
fabric but a sleeve is usually never just straight.
Don't worry if there is a slight curve and you want to maintain that curve by ironing
in that same fashion.
Mostly for this I know are straight and so it's a little challenge but you can do it
by follow the patterns on the jacket sleeve.
If there's no pattern simply take that motion in a slight banana curve.
When you do that try to keep the curve of the sleeve
and don't press the edges otherwise you get a military-style look that looks very un-advantageous
on a regular jacket in my opinion.
Similarly to a shirt sleeve you simply rotate the sleeve and that way you ensure to have
a nice even result without any wrinkles and without any military crease on your sleeve.
Stay clear of the sleeve head which is better ironed using a tailor's ham.
You can really prop it in there, try to adjust it, pull things flat ideally over the sleeve
board because that way it drapes more easily nothing is in your way and you can just focus
on ironing.
It's a lot easier that way.
Use steam gentle motions and don't press too hard on it so you remove all the wrinkles.
When you're done with that slightly adjust the tailor's ham so you can iron the front
part of the chest as well as the back.
Again think about jackets when it's worn.
From the top here you want to go and iron in lines down and keep that same shape, same
in the back.
With that center seam and so you go in the shape it drapes over the body.
Gently use steam.
Now you can also iron the back area underneath the collar
and also the collar itself.
It's very difficult or next to impossible to iron a collar on a flat ironing board.
You need the sleeve board and a tailors ham so it can roll and drape nicely and just iron
little parts of it.
If you have patch pockets you can use the sleeve board as well to iron them and then
maybe the clapper on top to get a straight edge.
At this point you're basically done with your jacket.
Ideally you put it in a hanger or even better a mannequin so you can really look it over
and see any areas that you might have missed or it just got wrinkles while you were ironing
other parts.
Again take a look at the lapels.
Make sure the roll is there.
There is no puckering or any waviness.
Look at the shoulders, look at the sleeves again because sometimes you see creases on
the inside of the elbow or usually jackets crease above the bum around the waist level
in the back.
Last but not the least you may not be happy with the wrinkles in the lining.
Now ideally use your iron and hover over it with a steam and pull it at the same time
that will likely release most of the wrinkles.
If it doesn't you can gently press it or use a steamer that produces even more steam than
the regular iron and you should be good to go.
Just be careful not to press too hard because otherwise you may end up with wrinkles on
the outside of the jacket which is a lot worse than in the lining.
Alright now you know how to iron a jacket at home!
If you haven't already done so please check out part 1, 2 & 3 of this ironing series.
We talked about the equipment, how to iron dress shirts and how to iron dress pants.
In today's video I am wearing a red, white and blue check shirt with barrel cuffs because
it's easier than French cuffs when you iron.
I also skipped the jacket because I wanted a full range of movement so I'm not hindered
when I iron.
So I just opted for a blue Harris tweed vest.
I combined it with a Bordeaux red silk knit tie from Fort Belvedere and a pair of off-white
wool flannel winter pants.
White or off white winter flannels are not something you typically see these days but they were
quite popular in the 30s.
My shoes are full brogue derby wingtips in a nice chestnut brown and I combine them with
a pair of light pink and gray socks that provide just enough contrast between the shoes and the pants.
They're from Fort Belvedere and you can find out all of the accessories in our shop here.

FULLTANK by Bo Sanchez 373: Are you full or empty? Here's how to be fuller. 26 Feb 2018 - Duration: 6:24.
Are you empty or are you full, right now? Let me tell you, that your emptiness or
your fullness is not a result of your taking. But ironically, it's a result of your giving.
Hi, my name is Bo Sanchez, and I miss you, and I hope you miss me too.
That's two weeks of not being able
to make Fulltank. I was leading a
Pilgrimage in Israel. And in the very places that I was going to, the Internet
signal, it was not very good for uploading. And so, I such had a difficult
time and decided, "Okay I couldn't make Fulltank." Anyway, at the last leg of that
Pilgrimage, I was not feeling well already, by the time I landed here in Manila.
I was just... you know? So super exhausted, and so, but I'm here back.
I want to thank you for all the messages that you've been giving me.
Overwhelmed by the messages that people were sending me, telling me, you know? That they miss
Fulltank, and it changes their lives. And so, I'm here again, and I'm
talking about this powerful experience that all of us have.
Can I give you an example? Of the whole idea that your emptiness, and your fullness is
really a function or result of your giving? You know? Try this experiment tomorrow.
The moment you wake up, you just smile at every single person you meet.
Just smile, and smile. Walking on the street, smile. By the time
you reach the office; you know? Smile at the security guard.
Smile at that clerk. Smile, at everybody you meet in the corridor. Smile, at everybody. And then,
do this count, "How many smiles you get back?" Let me bet, that if you do that the
entire day, you will tabulate, that you on that day have received the most smiles
ever, why? Because you smiled. You gave smiles. You receive what you give.
What do you call that? When God created this universe, He put in the DNA of this
universe, this law called, "The Law of Reciprocity"
You receive, what you give away. Now, try another experiment, the next day. The moment you
wake up, you frown. Like you glare at everyone you meet, you know? And you
just stare at people, you know? Walking on the street, and you're frowning, and
glaring. And then, at the end of the day count, "How many people slapped you?"
I'm sorry. "How many people frowned back at you as well?" You know? It's so simple.
And it doesn't happen 100% of the time. There are people that you will smile too.
They won't smile you back, because they're just having a rough day,
But more or less, that's "The Law of Reciprocity" And you receive the most smiles,
when you give the most smiles. And you receive the most frowns,
when that's what you give, to other people. It works with money, as well.
I'm a financial teacher, I should know. I've taught thousands of people, how to invest?
And I'm gonna teach you, that you need to invest twice.
Number one: Invest in your eternity tithe. And when you give to God,
you shall receive, much more than what you've given. You also have to
invest in your emancipation. So, there's an eternity fund, and your emancipation fund.
Emancipation is what I call, "Financial freedom" where you invest long term.
Hopefully in the stock market. That's what I teach, as a financial teacher.
And I've seen so many people, you know? What they've invested ten
years ago, eight years ago, five years ago, they're reaping now, the benefits.
It works everywhere. Think about it. Do you want more joy? Then, give joy to the
people around you. Be kind. Look at their needs. Give a listening ear, and serve
other people. You want more peace? Then, give more peace. Do you want more love?
Then, give more love. I want to thank you so much, for watching this.
And you know? This is Fulltank, and I read the Gospel for the day. And our Gospel is Luke 6:36;
"...and Jesus said, 'Give, and it will be given back to you.'"
Press down, shaken together, and running over. Wow!
And I pray that will be your experience, as you learn to give more. And I pray for you.
In the Mighty name of Jesus, receive God's love, God's blessings, as you learn
to give more, every single day. May you receive so much more abundance.
In Jesus' name.
Amen and amen. In the name of the
Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen. Thank you so much for being part
of Fulltank. I have one request. I want to ask you. You know? People have
been telling me, some people have been telling me, "That they've not been able to
receive Fulltank in their newsfeed." And can we do an experiment? I want you to
sign up to this page. If you've not yet
done so, that's "facebook.com/BrotherBoSanchez"
Okay? Like, "Follow me" And this is what you do? When you press
that, "Follow button" I want you to press... Instead of standard, you know?
Go to "See first" Like you want to see this,
hopefully Fulltank first in
your newsfeed. Let's try that out.
And you know? Tell people about it. Third is, you comment.
Because I'm trying to understand the algorithm of Facebook. And if you do that?
You know? Like, you follow, and you want to see this Fulltank first in your newsfeed.
And then, you comment. Hopefully, the algorithm of Facebook will
say, "You really want to receive Fulltank in your newsfeed as a
blessing to your life every day. Thank you so much!
God bless you, and I will see you tomorrow.

Tesla Model S: 100,000km Without Service or Maintenance - Duration: 6:43.
Hello everyone. In this short video we are with one of our TeslaTurk members.
I'm about to present an award to him in just a moment because
he's the second Tesla driver in Turkey to surpass 100,000km.
Even though he's the second to reach 100k, he's the only one to have done it without any service.
In this short video we'll chat with him for a little bit about how he managed to do 100k kms…
without any maintenance fees, what kind of problems he experienced etc.
Because when it comes to EVs everyone have claims like
"Oh it's gonna need a battery change after 100,000kms"
"Are you accounting for its battery renewal cost after warranty?"
"We don't know how much it will have maintenance fees in the long run" etc.
Yet in reality there's nothing to worry about because as you see
We have live evidence right before you here in Turkey.
First of all congratulations. Thank you, thank you very much.
What was 100k kms like in Turkey without service or any help from Tesla?
I started out with a few worries in my mind too like everyone else
However I think it has been 2.5 years, I took delivery in May of 2015
100.000kms in 2,5 years?
So a bit more than 2,5 years almost 3 now.
Based on all of my past experiences with cars I can easily say it has almost been problem free.
Of course we had a few minor issues including the most major one we resolved together
Yeah that was when the car was almost giving every error it had at the same time It was lit up like a Christmas tree with error notifications
Service manager in Graz, or was it Frankfurt?
Yeah Frankfurt's service manager helped us thankfully via FaceTime
He made us remove the trunk basket and had a look.
Turns out the problem was that all the car's 12V system is earthed to the chassis...
and the earthing bolt of all the wires had corroded and cracked.
So we soldered the bolt back on to the chassis and every error was gone.
Was resolved with a simple operation. What else?
There hasn't been any other major issues there is a slight problem with the trunk hatch closing automatically
Yeah the trunk hatch automatically closes whenever you open it.
Yes besides that there were no problems I would call major.
Did your 12V battery change? No my 12V battery never changed.
It never changed because I never left my car with low charge.
My car almost never had 0 km on battery. I think it was only once.
It happened once when I left the car with 50kms at the airport while going abroad
When it was out in the cold for a week it went down to 0 kms when I was back.
It never went that low besides then so the 12V battery was never harmed either.
More interesting than that my battery degradation is almost zero.
Yes that is also very interesting isn't it?
The car is past 100.000kms now and…
What was the range when you first got it vs. now?
On typical range it was 415km on day one. Today still when I charge to 100%
It gets something between 413km and 415km.
Of course on extremely cold days it sometimes gets down to 407km.
But I think it's an extremely good battery performance.
Yes Tesla did their battery studies well didn't they? Yes they did unbelievably well.
Also it is a very accurate battery it shows what it really has.
Some people have questions in their minds because of their experiences with phones
I don't want to name brands
They say when I go outside it dips from 50% to 5% and shuts down. I am left without a battery etc.
This kind of stuff never happen with Tesla.
Phone batteries and EV batteries are quite different.
Yes completely unrelated.
I am extremely happy, still driving my car with the same excitement I had on the first day.
Also I don't think any Tesla driver can get back to driving another regular car. Absolutely not.
Sometimes I have to when I'm travelling and I rent a car but Tesla really is in another league.
It's a really different experience and an excitement. I'd recommend to everyone.
Any other problems until 100,000? If we think a bit more?
With your car I only know of trunk hatch and the earthing of the 12V system. We just replaced the pollen filter.
I was able to use the old one as well cleaning it from time to time but brand new is always better.
I also have a service appointment in Europe for April.
It actually isn't recommended to drive a car until 100,000km without service but it wasn't troublesome either.
For example the coolant liquid had to be changed at 80,000 km but mine I think to my luck was still on good levels.
Oh yes there was the coolant. Have you checked the levels?
Yes recently I had and it was still fine. It didn't decrease.
Even if it had we are able to refill it here with the coolant liquid. It doesn't have to go to Europe for it.
It's a great car I'm very happy.
Did you calculate your savings on 100,000km? Tax, fuel, maintenance?
Yes recently I did, took an average of 0.3₺ for electricity, I spent 7000₺ for fuel in total.
Yeah he was recently saying that his partners bought Audis the same time he was buying his Tesla
Now they're paying thousands of liras to service centres every 5 months or so
Yes exactly, exactly.
Yes service, vehicles taxes and especially fuel savings are extreme.
You don't even notice the electric bill being more expensive in your company's electric bill right?
Not at all. Also with Tesla you're driving a very powerful car in 5 litre engine car category.
If you calculate the fuel a 5 litre engine car needs in 100.000km savings are astronomical.
Yes around 6-7 fold difference.
Also it is a very classy car as well, I have Autopilot this is a 2015 model.
I use it a lot on highways especially, extremely safe.
In short I'm very satisfied. It has been great so far and with Tesla I continue.
This is something we always tell guys but with a live example we wanted to show and tell.
There's nothing to worry, only when Superchargers and service centres come to Turkey it will be better suitable for more people.
Then we will be able to travel further easier.
Thank you for watching. Do you have anything to add?
Well there isn't anything I will add, we continue living the Tesla lifestyle.
It's a different point of look, a different mentality.
We are following the boss' innovations closely, going to space and colonising Mars.
We are here on earth but hopefully we become more efficient.
Have you seen on the paper what Elon Musk's bath attendant during his Turkish bath visit in Ankara said in his interview?
He asked for a free Tesla saying if he can send one to Mars he can send one to me.
Yeah I even proposed that we make the bath attendant our group's honorary president.
Yes the honorary president of our club.
Yes that's it for now. Hopefully see you again on my second 100k km for 200k km video.
Well hopefully you pass the other guy and get to 200,000 first.
Hopefully. Who is the other one by the way?
Cihan.
Yes yes but he had a lot of road trips in Europe.
He also took his car to a service centre, you never did.

Watch: Rev. Billy Graham's Daughter Warns America…
"Turn Back to God or…"
In today's materialistic world, it is too easy to ignore God.
In the era of Barack Obama, the family unit has been taken over by a government which
provides for us, while killing the entrepreneurial spirit.
Too many Americans struggle with sin, as the temptations are endless.
Christian evangelist Anne Graham Lotz, the daughter of Rev. Billy Graham, is concerned
for all our souls.
She's calling on Americans to pray and fast for nine days, May 15-23, to ask God for help
in these distressful times because, she says, God is warning that "His judgment is coming
on America and on our world, and it's going to be ugly."
It is a warning about our future that we have to hear, and take action to avoid!
Anne Graham Lotz's concerns echoed those she made at a Watchmen on the Wall conference,
where she referenced the story of Noah and the flood and people eating, drinking, and
giving in marriage, while indifferent to God, and warned that today many people "have
no idea they are living on an abyss, and judgment is getting ready to fall."
In the invitation to the May 15-23 "Mayday!
Distress Call for Prayer," Anne Graham Lotz, the author of 11 books and holder of six honorary
doctorates, notes that she recently was teaching a seminar on the first two chapters of Joel
in the Old Testament and said the "impact was profound."
She is focused like a laser on our spiritual crisis…
"I knew God had spoken," she said.
"The messages almost made the hair stand up on the back of my neck.
Why?
Because God was clearly warning that His judgment is coming on America and on our world, and
it's going to be ugly.
I knew it then, and I know it now."
Referencing the evangelical belief in the Rapture when Jesus returns, Anne Graham Lotz
said that when authentic Christians are gone, "Institutions will collapse.
Banks will close.
The Stock Market will plunge.
Planes will fall out of the sky.
Cars will crash on the road.
Government in America at every level will disintegrate."
"Families will be torn apart," she said.
"In the unprecedented turmoil, our nation will be vulnerable for our enemies to seize
the moment and attack us.
There will be mass chaos, confusion, fear, grief, despair, anger, threats, danger … judgment."
However, just as God allowed the Israelites to suffer through the ten plagues before they
were delivered in the Exodus, Christians may have to endure "distress and trouble"
before God brings peace," she said, and thus Christians need to pray, "to cry out
to God on behalf of our nation and our world."
via CNS News
These words are profound, and it is essential that we all – as individuals – return
to God immediately.
Ask for His forgiveness, as judgment is coming.
And it is a wrath even Obama can't avoid.
Too often, Christians are quick to judge their neighbors before looking at themselves.
It is up to each of us, on a daily basis, to make the right choices
and praise Jesus.

8 Ways To Lower Or Eliminate Your Student Loan Debt Payment - Duration: 6:29.
- You have student loan debt, and you want it gone.
But where do you start?
Welcome to The College Investor.
I'm Stefanie O'Connell, from stefanieoconnell.com,
here to break down some of the best strategies
that you can use to erase your student loan debt.
Not all of these will eliminate your student loan
debt completely, but each solution can help.
One, qualify for a federal student loan forgiveness program.
This strategy applies to people with federal student loans.
These are student loans that are typically handled
by the Department of Education, or one of
their student loan servicing companies.
There are three major and several smaller
student loan forgiveness programs.
The most popular federal student loan
forgiveness program is Public Service Loan Forgiveness.
This program offers student loan forgiveness
to people who work in public service for 10 years.
Public service not only includes government jobs,
but it also includes many non-profit jobs,
educations jobs, and service jobs,
like law enforcement or public safety.
The other two common ways to get federal
student loan forgiveness, is to be a teacher,
which has its own teacher loan forgiveness program,
which doesn't cover as much as public service
loan forgiveness, and military service loan forgiveness,
which is also being phased out due to the
public service loan forgiveness program.
Two, find state assistance for your student loans.
46 out of 50 states offer at least one student
loan forgiveness program, with some states
offering many different programs to
cover a wide variety of loan types, employment, and more.
Before you give up on not qualifying for
federal loan forgiveness programs, check your state,
and see if they offer any incentives or assistance.
Three, find out if your employer offers any assistance.
Working during college is one of the smartest
moves that any student can make, but if you're
already working, why not make sure that
you're taking advantage of all of
your employer's benefits, and see if you can't
eliminate or erase some of your student loan debt
with a tuition reimbursement program.
Many of these programs require you to pay
up front, thus, take out student loans, and then
provide proof of course completion to your employer.
Once you've completed the class, your employer
will typically reimburse you through your paycheck.
Now, already done with school,
and buried in student loan debt?
Some employers offer signing bonuses and other perks
to potential employees, but you have to ask.
Along with negotiating that first salary after graduation,
you need to see if your employer will
offer any help with your student loan debt.
Also, a new trend is emerging with employers,
offering student loan repayment assistance,
where they will pay off a portion of your loan
for each month or year of service, up to a given limit.
This can be a great perk if you can snag it.
Four, consolidate your federal student loans.
While consolidation by itself, won't help you
lower your payments or your student loan balance,
it can help you get financially organized.
Each of your loans can have a
different payment amount and due date.
If you mess up one payment, you could harm
your credit score, and be hurting your financial future.
That's why simply consolidating it,
organizing your student loans, can be so valuable.
Five, find a repayment plan that
matches your ability to pay.
After you graduate, you are automatically enrolled
in the the standard repayment plan.
This is 10 years of even payments,
which may not work for all borrowers.
If you have federal student loans,
there are many repayment plans that could
help you make your student loan debt more manageable,
which in turn, will help you eliminate your debt faster.
If you plan on your income going up in a few years
after graduation, you could look at a repayment
plan like graduated, which has a lower up front
payment that rises over time.
If you want a lower monthly payment,
but you're okay with paying it over a longer time,
look into the extended repayment plan.
Six, set up an income based repayment
plan with loan forgiveness.
When selecting a repayment plan,
if any of the above standard options still don't work,
federal loans offer income based repayment plans.
There are several versions of this,
but the most popular are income
based repayment, and pay-as-you-earn.
Many people don't realize that both of
these plans offer student loan forgiveness
at the end of the repayment term.
Any remaining balance on the loan will be forgiven,
but unlike the federal student loan forgiveness plans,
you will owe taxes on the amount forgiven.
Regardless, this is an excellent benefit.
With both of these plans, you simply
provide proof of income, and the Department
of Education calculates a monthly payment
for you that is 10% of your discretionary income.
That means your monthly student
loan payment will be affordable.
You do have to resubmit your income annually,
and your payment could rise as your income rises.
If you're in public service, signing up for
income based repayment, or pay-as-you-earn,
and combining it with public service loan forgiveness
is one of the best ways to minimize your student loan debt.
Seven, refinance your student loans.
If you have private student loans,
the best way to start eliminating this debt
is to refinance your private loans
at a lower interest rate.
This will not only save you money and interest
over the life of the loan, but it will
also lower your payment up front.
One of the best tricks is to refinance your loans
at a lower payment, but continue
paying your previous payment amount.
This could potentially shave years off of your loan,
saving you hundreds, or even thousands, of dollars.
Eight, earn more money.
Finally, if none of these options work,
or none of them totally eliminate your student loan debt,
the next best thing you can do is earn
more money and put that cash straight
to your student loan balance.

Wakanda isn't real ... or is it? Black Panther's real life village - Duration: 4:40.
Hello internet and welcome to behind the meme!
Today we have a look at "wakanda isn't real"
Everybody loves movies!
And it seems that the type of movies that are the most popular nowadays are super hero
movies.
You know, batman, spiderman, ironman, superman… basically any variation of man.
which translates to a lot of buff white dudes with cool powers or gadgets in tight spandex
clothes that shows of their muscles.
I'm starting to see why everybody likes these movies.
hubba hubba hubba hubba.
There's plenty of white super heroes out there but A black super hero is a rare thing.
It's kinda like finding a straight dude who is friends with a girl and doesn't wanna
bang her . I mean it happens sometimes, but not very often.
So it was a big deal to people when marvel's black panther movie was released in movie
theaters in February of 2018.
There was finally a black super hero that those who have felt left out could look up
to.
Upon it's release, like most super hero movies, it made a shit ton of money, coming
in at number 1 in the box office and being an instant financial success.
In case you don't know, Black panther is a movie about a panther, which is like a big
cat that lives in the jungle, he like runs in the forrest and like attacks smaller animals
with his claws because they're sharp and then he drinks water and climbs trees and
then in the end there are like these hunters who try to shoot him cause his fur is like
cool and it feels really good.
So he like gets together with the rest of the animals and they scare off the hunters
and they never come back which allows them to live happily ever after.
Oh and then dwayne "the rock" johnson makes a cameo where he like flexes and pretends
to act cause he's in like every movie nowadays, so of course he's in black panther as well.
Okay okay.
I may have lied about the plot of the movie.
I haven't exactly seen black panther.
To be honest, I really don't watch any super hero movies.
I'm more so a fan of movies that star sasha grey.
Although I haven't seen Black Panther, it has been kinda hard to avoid people talking
about it on the internet recently.
You see in the film there is a utopia type paradise known as Wakanda.
Apparently It's like a cool place to live and stuff.
So much so that it has become a topic of discussion and debate.
With people declaring that they want to move to wakanda because the movie depicts it as
a wonderful place.
And then there's been other people online who have to remind them wakanda isn't real.
You see Some people speak about wakanda like it is a real place.
Like this article about it from the new york times.
Which declared that the part of the appeal of the movie was because wakanda hasn't
been colonized.
Conservative commentor Ben Shapiro responded in a tweet to that article declaring that
wakanda isn't real.
Since then the phrase has spread around the internet and been used in various ways to
remind people a movie is simply just a movie.
But that hasn't stopped a few bold individuals to go as far as creating pages to receive
donations so they can move to a fictional paradise.
Thankfully most of these pages haven't received any donations.
I mean people can spend their money how they choose but cmon.
Wakanda isn't real….
Right?
Or is it?
*Dun dun dun!*
Technically it is a real place.
There is a village in Lake county Illinois that is called Wauconda . Spelled differently
but sounds the same.
This place is pretty small with a population of just over 13,000 people and doesn't have
much going on.
That is until now!
Since the release of the movie fans have been calling the village hall and yelling "wakanda
forever" or making other references to the film.
Residents have seemed to embrace and have fun with their new found popularity as well.
So technically wakanda isn't real…but wauconda is real….
So you could move to wauconda, but you can't move to wakanda.
Yeah, This is kinda confusing.
So there you have it!
What started off as a fictional paradise to some, has turned into a real place but just
spelled a little differently.
But hey!
