Therefore using the Google maps is very important.

The more important is adding helpful information to the maps.

Getting One on One Time With Google and Apple - Duration: 5:38.

Hey, this is the Daily Overpass, my name is Eric and I make apps!

Now today I wanna talk about getting one on one time with Google and Apple!

Ok, so today I'm coming to you from London, obviously.

So I had a meeting just a little while ago and I thought "hey, you know what would make

a really good backdrop?!

Put big Ben in the background, that would be really cool for the video today!".

And of course I forgot that Big Ben is completely covered in scaffolding - I don't know if you

can see it over there.

But anyway, I made the effort, I hope you guys appreciate that I made the effort.

Anyway, my meeting today was with YouTube, it was with one of the creative managers.

Basically, this YouTube channels been doing a lot better lately, it's sort of been picking

up in terms of viewership and subscribers and everything which is fantastic!

I really appreciate it, thank you so much everyone!

So they started taking notice and they said we'll have a little one on one consultation,

they could give me some guidelines on how to grow the channel even further, some things

we could do, some optimisation types and stuff like that.

And it was really useful, it was a very good meeting!

It was different stuff, like I needed to remind you...oh, right, hang on...let me do this

now.

That's the kind of thing I need to start doing at the beginning of the videos, and it just

does not roll off the tongue!

So that was the advice and stuff I got, so I'm gonna try that, let me know if you think

it gets annoying!

I had a phone call with them last week when we were setting up the meeting, so I've been

trying to do it over the last few episodes and everything but whatever.

But the nice thing about going to something like this, like a YouTube event or going to

the YouTube offices if you're able to, if you're in a place where they have them, is

that it makes Google seem less like a faceless organisation.

See I've noticed the exact same thing with apps.

Like when my apps started to get a little bit more popular and I started to optimise

it, like with the YouTube channel, they could see that I was doing a lot in terms of optimisation

and doing all the little things that they recommend you do.

And it was the same thing with apps, I was going through that optimisation advice they

have on Google Play, and I was doing all those kind of things, you know, localising it into

different languages and everything like that.

So after a while, you get these emails saying "do you wanna set up a consultation?"

I told you about this before, years ago, where I had a consultation with someone from Ad

Mob, because I started to make some decent revenue.

My revenue at the time I think it was like 30 pounds a day or something like that, it

was not very high.

i mean, it was high compared to nothing, it was high compared to a lot of people, but

it was still pretty low.

So I spoke to the Ad Mob consultant, he says "so, I downloaded and used your app and I

found that there were no interstitial's in it".

I said "oh no, there are, but it's only after every fourth open because I don't wanna annoy

people".

And he was like "well, most people will do it on every open, so you could probably do

it a bit more frequently", and so that was like, every time the app would open it would

show an interstitial.

You can't do that anymore by the way.

Like 9 months later, there was a change in rules or something like that in the guidelines,

and my app was suspended from Ad Mob and I had to change that and then get them to turn

it back on again, which they can.

But anyway, there are people there and they're willing to help you, because ultimately, if

your app is successful - especially with ads, it's making them money too!

So it's in their best interest to help you out, and they want people to use the applications.

Like, I had a rant about this the other day, Google and Apple are different.

Google want you to be there, Apple tolerate you.

But, a lot of developers don't know that you can speak to an Apple reviewer too.

If your app gets rejected, you could put in the response to the rejection, "hey, i wanna

talk to the reviewer, can someone give me a call".

And they will call you and explain to you why they rejected your application, which

I never realised that.

A couple of years ago a developer told me that and I thought "Really?!

You can just do that?

I thought you'd probably have to fill out all these forms and stuff."

And I did.

So even today, I'm waiting for a reviewer to call, he's probably calling today whilst

I'm in London so I'm probably missing it.

Based on my problems with the app I tried to release last week.

So, I don't know if any of you guys have ever done that.

I'd be really interested to know, if you have actually had a reviewer call you, was she

able to help you or were they able to help you?

Because that's never been the case for me!

But, you know, they show they care by calling and everything.

So anyway, Apple and Google, they may seem like big faceless organisations but a lot

of the time, you can get help.

But you have to show that you're doing all the optimisation and stuff like that.

Anyway, really quick video today - I'm having a lot of camera trouble, hope the wind's not

too bad!

to set page breaks in google sheets first go to the file menu then choose

the print option

here you will see the option to set custom page breaks click it

now you can drag the blue lines around to where you want the content to break

and begin on a new page

when done click confirm brakes to save your changes

once you are using custom breaks you will have the edit option to modify them

add more breaks by dragging them in

from the right or bottom edges of the paper

remove them individually by clicking the X

or clear all of your custom page breaks by hitting the reset button in the top center

you can toggle the custom breaks off without deleting them

to use the default page breaks instead

custom breaks can be set for each of your sheets in the spreadsheet

whether you continue to print or cancel this dialog

your custom breaks are already saved

Google Maps' new feature is awesome, but here's why you may NEVER get to try it Google has rolled-out an improvement to turn-by-turn directions to a select number of Google Maps users. The new system uses local landmarks when pointing you to your destination.

At the moment, Google Maps uses a combination of street names and estimated distances in its turn-by-turn directions. However, that's not really how people provide direction when talking face-of-face.

Keeping your eyes peeled for a small street sign is often not as convenient as using landmarks, or recognisable places of interest along the route.

Google knows this, and is looking into incorporating this more natural-sounding language into its Google Maps app. Users have reported Google Maps offering directions based on local landmarks. So, instead of turn right at Main Street, itll direct you to turn right after Burger King..

Its not clear what points of interest Google will use for its directions, however, it's a nice addition. And initial reports from those in the test seem to be overwhelmingly positive.

However, Google told Engadget that highlighting landmarks is just one method being tested to make guidance better. In fact, it's so early in the testing period that Google isn't even sure whether this feature will ever roll-out worldwide to users.

and today what we're gonna talk about is

what some people refer to as dayparting,

or we can also look at it as,

when is your campaign being the most effective?

Stay tuned.

When you're taking a look inside AdWords new overview,

sometimes you will see a front page that looks like this.

Now, I'm keeping some of it blurred out

because this is our client's confidential information.

However, one of the new improvements is this cool

day and hour area.

Now, I'm assuming a couple things here.

Number one, that you already have your ad scheduled

so that they are not running 24 hours a day,

seven days a week, unless they're converting

24 hours a day and seven days a week.

If you do not have ad scheduling set up,

what you need to do is go up to your Campaigns,

select the campaign that you're working on,

go over on the left hand side and click on Ad schedule.

As you can see, this campaign is set

to work from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.,

Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. on Saturday,

and 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Sunday.

But let's take a look at

how effective this campaign is during those times.

If we go back to the overview of our AdWords Campaign,

go down to Day & hour and Impressions is one thing,

but I wanna take a look at more at Conversions.

And as you can see it's pretty sporadic.

If we take a look at the hours

that the campaign is most effective,

we see it's probably between 8 a.m., and let's say 5 p.m.

Now there are still some significant conversions outside

that window, but once you start getting into 10 p.m to 11,

11 p.m. to 12, obviously it falls off quit a bit.

The question we need to ask is,

would it be more beneficial to have the budget

that we're spending in this area presenting ads

during this time, to see if we couldn't convert them better?

Another thing that we would take a look at is

we see Monday seems to be strong.

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday.

But you can see Saturday,

especially around 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10pm,

all of these hours really are minimal conversions.

So what we may wanna do is, you know what,

on Friday, after 5:00, we're not gonna run any ads.

We're gonna make sure that our budget is being put

to good use at other times.

Based on these numbers what it think I'm

gonna do is on Wednesdays I'm gonna stop the ads at 8 p.m.

On Thursdays I'm gonna stop em at 8.

On Fridays I'm gonna stop em at 8.

Because on these three days we see very few conversions.

On Saturday I'm actually gonna stop them at 6.

And we're gonna see if that doesn't change the efficiency

of our count a little bit.

To get a better detail of what's going on here,

you can go into that Campaign, go into Ad schedule,

and you can see we've got our clicks,

our conversions, on what days they're converting the best.

And we can see that Monday is actually converting

a lot better than most of the other days.

In this scenario we're more worried about hours

than we are about days of the week.

That would be a separate video.

Now, while we're in here, let's say we want

to make a schedule change here.

Monday through Friday we have it set up as 7

but I wanna set em up at 8.

We're really not getting any conversions before 8 a.m.

Alls I have to do is click on blue for schedule,

Mondays through Fridays, we can say 8:00

to 11 or whatever it might be, I'm just showin you

how to make a quick change, and click save.

Now you can see it's Mondays at 8 a.m.,

Tuesdays, so on and so forth.

And that's how you make a change.

But before you do that go in and take a screen shot

or record the information so that you have

that stuff available before you make any changes.

But that is an adjustment that you can take a look at

to see what days and hours your ads

or your campaigns are most profitable.
