hi I'm Tapdiezel and welcome to our newest interview he's an entrepreneur he's been
killing into the music business and we're gonna get a little bit more
personal with him and find out what he's trying to do with the movement in Ottawa
and you know worldwide ten worldwide that's Instagram name is down right now
hashtag and yeah this introduced to our main man over here
his government government name is MIDI but his Instagram name is pop he's
always gonna ask me for my social insurance so I don't know which route
you're trying to go what do you want people to know us friends a family
they call me Mehdi on Instagram I'm pop on Instagram as I am alright so I mean
we've known each other for quite some time I know what you're capable of this
guy humble young man and he's killing in the game like I said before and again
let's just get more to the personal side of things and also the business and the
things as well okay so so how did you start with 10 management 10 worldwide so
I finished a couple of projects and I was kind of excited to figure out what
what to do next and a good friend of mine actually he's kind of my big bro
one time we're just sitting down and I remember it perfectly he was like music
bro music and so kind of took my time with it figure out if that's something
maybe I won't explore and I love the entertainment business and I love really
just that fast-paced environment where you know you're you're working on a
project where you're working on a single cover art so it has that multimedia
aspect to it it has culture to it has social media promotions and obviously
strategic planning if you want to do something right you got to be like 10
steps ahead so with that I thought it was the perfect thing and it was just
about finding the right people to to collaborate with and make something
great happen it's perfect and why did you actually get into the business in
the first place I know you you have a lot on the go you're doing multiple
things but specifically music again you said there's a fast-paced environment
you love that but why was the reason you actually in the music business what
drives you every day
it's a very big question honestly I'll tell you this I'll give you my personal
side is I love the challenge that it comes with and going head-to-head with
people that are obviously competing against you but at the same time you
kind of you know through the through the lens that you're looking at it's like oh
I love that kind of lifestyle or I love that kind of impact that they're making
on not just culture but just everyday you know we listen to music all the time
and I looked at this stuff that I think I'm good at and it was kind of like
perfectly aligned and for that I said let's fucking do it
I guess where we could dump you sir don't worry I was awesome love you oh my
gosh fuck anyways so listen I'm into what's the
the meaning of 10/10 it's like a it's like an acronym for tonight ends never
okay and it just goes back to how I think the business is run which is
you're never sleeping things happen you know last second and you're always
you're always working if you know if I'm not on my phone I'm on my laptop I'm not
on my laptop I'm like my iPad so it's just continuously just working and
sometimes you know you look at the time and you're like oh shit it's 3:00 3:00
a.m. I should probably go to sleep I'm gonna bring it down a little bit easier
what is the hardest part about starting a business music management and what's
the advice some of the advice we give out to the younger entrepreneurs I think
the biggest thing is if you want to get into music business as a manager it's
two things I think obviously the first one is just music alone if the music is
good the music is good in Ottawa I like to really you know over watch and see
the kind of talent that we have and we have plenty of them so I think music is
obviously first and then second is like choosing your choosing your path and
saying you know what this is the artist that I think I should sign and I'm gonna
do absolutely everything that I possibly can to make sure that their voice gets
heard and that their represented the way that they should and
so that they can focus on just making great music created by so this man's a
genius I'm like the guru he's like Skywalker
don't worry about it but like you know I think that he's gonna look better than
me okay it's cool but I know more than the bear I've never watched always watch
it afterwards what kind of forever so you've been in
this business for more than a year officially as 10 yeah and as of November
I was if your official one-year mark yeah oh that was probably one of the
best suit anniversaries I've ever been to and it was properly done I actually
had a fantastic time and you got oh man ha ha ha don't make me black bro don't
make me don't use like oh man oh my god but yeah he just tell us more about that
night what were the brightest moments of spotless can it tell us about the whole
experience for the one year I remember sitting with my my partner
my brother George and we were thinking about okay you know we love music what
else do we think we can we can do well and complement the music and it was the
events just kind of instantly like came to the foreground like this is what we
need to do and it was perfect timing because when we thought about it
it was around September time we said you know we're not you know we're just two
kids right we don't exactly know how to run an event but we said we have two
months let's just make the perfect event and let's not make it about ten even
though it was like ten anniversary but we just wanted to like showcase talent
in the city and not just you know the artists that we manage but you know
bring on board people like new love Keenan Ian Lords Jaden District June you
know red couchboys and people that are obviously making an impact you know with
with with the music they make and of course like you know s VLF or Y right it
was it was just a packed show and I think he went really well it's like
start to finish man I love dancing the whole night I had my
paying the left I was fuckin stressing well you know what's honestly amazing is
like I looked at around 10:15 p.m. outside and I was like holy shit George
there's actually like a lineup of people it was crazy yeah I was like man are we
selling the next iPhones like it was like it was as if it was Apple store and
there was like a lineup of people so when you see stuff like that and you see
how it's not about us it's about artists and you know we're celebrating artists
and we're trusting in artists it was it was amazing and it just makes you
appreciate the arch that much more because ya know like before supporting
and there's so much hype in the city for it and you know that this is one of
those outlets and you created a perfect outlet that you know you started from
day one and you're still doing it and that you give me a platform for other
artists whatever it is to actually showcase their talent so a good job on
you men are really proud of you and any reception and planned future plans for
the shows actually I was talking to George about it actually we we kind of
you know we did like a teaser announcement we want to do something
sometime during the summertime called Ottawa
music summit and instead of doing like a tenth anniversary part to show we want
to kind of have two sides to it which is having like performance and doing
something similar to like tinder or like speed dating where it's like I'm an
artist looking for a producer I'm a artist looking for a manager and we want
to have panels on there so if you know people that obviously have been in the
music business you know tell them to give us a give us a shout
tell everybody tell everyone he's gonna be dj khaled oh my gosh everyone needs
to come I'll buy your mother house am I your father house I'm lying though he
seems like what's that Kanye West song is like you get a chequered oh you get
it what was it you get I don't know is it Oprah thing is it an awful thing
but there was a song there was a song on Kanye ways like kind of waste do not
with that but there was a there was a song from Kanye West's album yeah like
like Apollo and it was like it was like you get this
you get that you get that but anyways but I don't know you love you lost me
out yes Google
yeah you know but no fun so one of your artists your imagine artist because
everyone else so we would like to know you know how is it working with the five
I don't want to make it sound like over the top but it like every single day
it's special like she's always making music and when you look at like an
artist right you know it's about the music that they're obviously working on
it's their brand right and what image do want to portray and you know the third
aspect it's like legacy it's like what happens in like 20 years from now and
from all those different criterias it's like she's perfect and I think we
everything we do is the creative collaboration you know and she has a lot
of energy she wants to do a lot of things and it's about finding the right
time to to kind of figure out when do we do them and it's just been honestly an
incredible transition from looking for artists to finding her and hoping you
know in some way we can we can just continuously elevate the platform our
game Tom so would've I what separates her from other artists cuz you obviously
you singled her out this is the one right what's what's singles are out from
everyone else an old friend of mine actually sent her music to me and was
like hey you you know you manage models and you know looking for a musician
check her out and it was just one song I listened to is reaping an old version of
it now she has like Blackwater the song has been remastered like re-engineered
from the ground up and I listened to and my instant reaction after like listening
to it for like 30 seconds was like how do I get in contact with her like how do
I just reach out to her and say you're fucking talented let's work she hasn't
an electrifying sound yeah and and honestly like when we have meetings and
we have meetings like once once a week that passion that drive it
it's just what like it just feels me to just want to you know work more and
personality was just just a way she you know she talks about music and how she
wants to do this and this and that it's like yeah you know you just want to work
with people that obviously you know you find a patent you you know you find
similar common interest in and people that you know you have their back and
they have yours and that's that's amazing after this give me an autograph
I'm not playing and kidding me after this it's not gonna sell on eBay right
no in the Africa anyway uh this isn't working with what kind of forever
I was working with SV LMS you're Mel Harris as well yes yeah
so when George kind of came on board with us on tenth we we were not
necessarily looking for new artists to sign but George kind of recommended hey
like you know there's an artist out there he's been making music for a while
like three four years he had like a short the old mansion a bourbon room
yeah so I listened to one song again and I
was like this is good let's just set up a meeting and from the work that he's
done before to now it's it's been it's been a you know the very drastic change
and not necessarily the old stuff was bad it's just this stuff that I
personally listen to and you know music is subjective I was like wow this is
incredible like hopeless was one of those songs I listened to I was like
yeah this is it this is it yeah and so George kind of set the whole thing up
and you know when you when you're in any business or just life in general it life
is fucking short so you have to kind of pick you know the bags that you know are
going to be successful and then they're kind of like they're set so I was
managing by at the time and I didn't want to kind of take anything away from
the work that we were doing together so George was the big help he was the co
manager and he kind of said you know what I'll manage the stuff that you
obviously don't have time with and I help out in any way shape or form right
now managing two artists I think lie and say
Limits it's kind of like the sweet spot you know the you know the perfect
up-and-coming female artist and the perfect up-and-coming male artist yeah
and you know it definitely with indie with males and females actually I have a
question for you um whose harder to work with males or females honestly in my
situation like both artists know what they want right and it's about like
polishing it and kind of building a strategy of like you're gonna do this
you just we just need to kind of figure out the timeline of doing it I think by
the reason I save I in this very aspect is it was the first artist that I kind
of brought onboard to ten and the transition I'm learning to you know it's
not like I was in the business for like five years or ten years and decided to
just open up a new shop it was the perfect transition you know for for me
working with lie it's honestly very simple it's as if like we're not even
working so because of that I would say she obviously taught me a lot of how to
deal with situations so I probably would say why but I would also probably say
Salem you know we we obviously have our you know not necessarily disagreements
but there's different ways we want to do it but it just goes back to the last
point of like as a manager your job is your artist has a story and the best
person that can tell that story is the artist so our job as managers at least
the way I look at it is polishing that story and letting her or him tell them
so I don't know if I answered the question but honestly working with
welcome is amazing yeah almost shut it to you
where's those bounty napkins do we get a Kleenex up in this joint I need some
going to Phoenix so you know and having the success that you have had now
congratulations are you looking to signing any new
artists I think I think it's just when that time comes it's kind of like my
artist SPLM he hasn't saying we'll cross that bridge when we get there we're not
constantly looking for any artist but if something or someone catches our eye I
think it just again it comes to resources like SPLM and I are signed and
you know as a management company we cannot blow up another artist if
these two artists haven't done well already
so if obviously you know an opportunity comes we'll definitely you know look
into it but right now by this SPLM are the focus they are going to remain the
focus so it's about getting maybe the right resources so maybe a new manager
that comes on board that's passionate about music is willing to fail a whole
lot and saying yeah maybe you know we can pair this manager up with this
artist if there is chemistry and then kind of oversee the whole the whole
progress and the stuff that we've failed on before and the stuff that's worked
kind of use that as like as a formula or a recipe to make sure that that artist
is also doing well everything is calculated everything is calculated it
must be kinda fuckin stuff I always loved that you all said everything is
calculated and I use that advice to this day one trust me I'm never calculated
this morning so what's next for 10 in the next 10 years know if I'm alive
honestly right now we we kind of do like a 1 once a year kind of a meeting with
every artist and obviously our plans I think for this year
provide and SPLM is obviously continuing to to make great music SPLM as a couple
you know big things out that we're gonna probably
talk about soon so when it comes to music it's just obviously more content
and more content and being able to kind of reach that out to to the masses so
more people get can get a chance to listen to it and for us is honestly the
two things we do really well I think it is something we just want to kind of
stick in our lane and kind of be the Masters of it music so that's SPLM and
via and doing shows and so I think the Ottawa music summit that we want to do
it's it's a lot of a bigger take than what we what we did with just the first
show but I think with the right planning again being ten steps ahead everything
is calculated I think it will be it will turn out for anyone
now just closing the final words the final chapter what's like the funniest
thing that's ever happened to you just best experience in 10 deaths experience
actually let me live in me easier well some embarrassing moment the most
embarrassing moment geez
that one there wasn't when you stole my chicken noodle soup I was thinking of it
it's not the worst honestly I'll tell you this is it so I'll give you the
shortest version but like I want to kind of talk about it a little bit it's like
when I went through my Instagram and I was looking at ten Worldwide's like
Instagram page and like the stuff that we were doing last year this time it's
fucking unreal how you know this time just moves and the amount of stuff that
we've done in just such a short period of time I don't have honestly an
embarrassing moment and we probably should because you know the whole there
is a saying if you haven't failed and you know you're probably not winning but
I don't know I really at least nothing comes to mind if there is oh I'll send
you any it says other mankiewicz not Jessica's but it'd be like you know what
he was actually bullshitting there was a fucking mistake that was made but no man
it's I think working with good people that know exactly what they want
like those artists why and Salem let's feel them like you they know what they
want and it's just about making it happen and that's the kind of job I get
to be fortunate enough to do which is just you know make it happen
look at it this way so I think is a artists manager right I have a saying if
you want to like oversimplify it's like my heartis has a brand and a legacy and
I oversee that worldwide and I think working with them it's been so
incredible that the fail you know hopefully cross your finger and never
comes but like it hasn't come yet and it's yeah I just you just made me
realize it's actually scary because you probably want to fail but but yeah not
yet feeling is the best thing that would happen to anyone that so you come to
that I said no what happens to you then you know
let me know I'll make you feel on purpose recipe how I'll make you you
will be my biggest critique just you know I think you should have done that
that way I feel like you know what did you schedule an appointment with me I
think I'm gonna take over ten I think we're not selling stock options yet and
it's not any our final words like to say to the viewers man I just want to say
over the past year it's been incredible like the community like Ottawa music
scene just has embraced us and the only thing we want to do at this point is
just make great music and you know bring the city you know closer together and
it's not one of those things support local there is great music
let's support it and you know let's you know we're we're strong individually but
let's just be stronger or the strongest team stronger together that was my life
and where can people find you on Instagram snapchat and play 10 as well
yeah personally it's pop CA so popc a the company's Instagram handle is 10
worldwide and you can find me on snapchat
I don't really snapchat that much but if you want to find me it's XOR thanks a
water yeah perfect also the link is gonna be the description as well so you
can find them there and also ten worldwide
I just thank everyone for watching this video it was a pleasure having you here
on the interview of the show appreciate it and catch me next time and I'll be
