1 - How I look for a new Music - Duration: 4:50.

hi, as some of you might know, I am part of the team that creates the how-to

series of the IRV where different gymnasts explain how they approach

certain aspects of wheel gymnastics. Working on that brought me to the idea

of creating my own video series explaining how I approach creating a new

exercise and basically walk everyone through, step by step, how a new

exercise is being created. In this first video I tell you how I look for a new

music and based on what I choose which which music to use. The first thing I

would generally recommend is not to listen to hours upon hours of music but

go for a continuous process. So, what I do is I have a playlist set up in my

streaming service where I, whenever I come across a song, I'll put it on the

playlist and once there's a bunch on it I will, from time to time when I'm doing

some chores at home, when I'm commuting, or when I just have some time at hand, go

through the playlist or parts of it. And whenever I come across a song on it

that I like I'll move it up a bit and if there's a song that I no longer like as

much or I'm questioning whether that would actually work, I'll move it down a

few positions. And if a song stays on the bottom too long I'll remove it again

just to make sure that list stays fairly condensed.

Another good tip I think is the radio station functionality that most

streaming services offer, where you can create the playlist based on a son, an

album, or an existing playlist. So what I then do is, I create a radio station

based on my playlists of potential music, which I link down in the video

description, which actually brought me in the past to quite a few

interesting new discoveries. Also, I would generally recommend you to get some

third-party opinions. So ask your coach ask your colleagues - about what

they think of your favourites. Of course, keep in mind that they might not picture

you doing the same elements as you do. So you might already have specific ideas on

which elements to do at certain parts of the music and they might not picture

your with the same dynamics so just keep that in mind when you get the

opinions of them. Now regarding the choice of type or style of music, this

obviously depends greatly on your character, on your tastes, and your

abilities. For me this year, I knew I wanted to have a song that has a fairly

strong beat that would potentially allow the audience to clap along, just because

none of the music I've had so far would allow for that and I imagined that to be

very motivating, of course, during a performance

What I ended up now choosing is "come with me now" by Kongos. - "Right turns out

in between recording and editing this video I changed my mind. What I ended up

choosing is "fun der K" from ASA-i-viata. no idea whether I am pronouncing that even

remotely correctly. but I'll be sure to put a link to the

song into the video description. I'm not quite sure whether I will have to add a

second song just because it might end up a bit too short after I cut out certain

repetitive parts. I'll have to see that during the editing process. The editing

process will actually be the topic of my next video, so be sure to subscribe to be

notified when that goes up. Also feel free to give me any feedback or input on

the format or on the whole idea of this video series. I have a short list of

topics that I definitely want to cover but I'm of course open to any

suggestions of what I should cover as well. I hope at least some of you will

profit from the series or at least finding interesting and I guess I'll see

- A great pop video, which has changed throughout the years.

It seems that over the past few years,

what really becomes apparent in these pop video is

a lot of color, a lot of brightness sometimes.

Comedy, take Blink-182 for example.

The spin-offs and the funny things.

Eminem as well, portraying other people

and stuff like that has been pretty funny.

Gosh, what else?

Dancing, okay the choreography

has had a huge part, I think in it,

and pop videos over the past few years,

and seeing Britney, all these artists

that are coming out now.

It's like you have to have dancers

in the back of you almost.

That's considered a pop video, you know.

It's really, really crazy.

I think that's what kind of defined it

over the past few years.

The mainstream, anyway.

- [Interviewer] What are your earliest memories of MTV?

- Being banned from watching it

because Madonna's 'Like A Prayer' was a little (laughs).

Maybe, or the 'Express Yourself' video.

I loved watching MTV, though, when I could,

and I think I really started getting allowed

to watch it around the time, I think,

when Nirvana came out, so I know.

I didn't get to watch it when I was really a lot young,

but I'd have to sneak sometimes.

But I've always loved MTV.

I mean, God, I'd always look up and say,

"Oh god, I wanna be on there one day makin' my own video."

- [Interviewer] Do you remember

the first video you ever saw?

- The first video I ever saw was...

- [Interviewer] 'I Hate Everything About You'?

Okay, the first video I think I remember,

this goes way back I guess,

That was my first memory of seeing it,

and maybe some Phil Collins with the big heads.

I forget which one it is,

but maybe you can find that video to show.

- [Interviewer] Yeah, forget which one that was.

- You know the one where it's like Sylvester Stalone

is a big head in it, and they're running, and I don't know.

I know, it's crazy but.

- [Interviewer] And how important was MTV

in your decision to become a performer?

- Well, I know, I mean God.

Everyone who's on MTV gets a lot of publicity.

I mean, so I think it's pretty important

if you're an artist.

If you wanna be mainstream and get really noticed,

it always helps to be on an internationally-known (mumbles).

Not everywhere one, you can edit that part too,

but you know what I mean.

I think once you're popular, of course,

it's really important to stay on and stuff like that.

I mean, MTV's really good to me.

(laughs)

- [Interviewer] Do you ever remember seeing

a particular video, or a particular artist,

and thinking to yourself I wanna do that,

or I can do that?

- Yeah, I think back whenever I was watching

even Whitney Houston videos, or the Mariah.

It was the vocalists that really did it for me.

And then, as entertainers, as I got older,

it was probably more Madonna as well

that I was influenced by too,

and I was like creativity and the uniqueness of a video,

and the growth, and what you see.

That's what's cool about watching a video.

It's kind been my influence.

- [Interviewer] You have obviously a good combination

of good vocals and good choreography

and entertainment value.

How important is that entertainment value to the video,

and do you think sometimes the entertainment value

of a lot of people's videos overshadows the fact

that they're vocalists, or artists, or something like that?

- I wish that maybe we could bring back

more depth and simplicity to videos a little bit,

and show more of the artist or what they're capable of

just as an artist, without all the extra stuff

like the explosions and the colors

and the vividness and all this.

I mean, after a while it just kind of gets old.

Actually, the new Aaliyah video where she's all dirty,

and she's got the snake.

It's just something different.

I like that.

I hope that in the next year,

or the next few years if it doesn't change,

that I'd just love to see more of the artist in the video,

and maybe more live performance videos.

That'd be really, really cool.
