Where to start with Music Documentaries - Duration: 4:30.

This is You're Gonna Wanna Watch

You've listened to the album, you've seen them in concert

You even have the T-shirt

but what about the stories behind the song and their writers?

In this video, we'll look at were to start with Music Documentaries

I'll get this one out the way first

Reuben are one of my favourite bands

and "What Happens In Aldershot" is a testimony as to why they are on that pedestal.

We get a look into their lives as they practice and tour as a rock three piece

and then go back to their 9 to 5's and families

Part of the charm of the film is how down to earth the lads are

and hard working they are, balancing normal day to day with being darlings of the British independent scene.

Originally released on DVD through the bands own label,

it's not currently available to buy.

Is it on YouTube? Yes it is.

Am I telling to go there and watch it?

Well, I'm not your boss, you live your own life.

Thinking about it, Music Documentaries seem a bit of a hardship to make.

Follow a band round with a camera for months on end, lots of waiting before shows or whilst you're in the studio.

So why not make the musicians come to you? That's the idea behind "It Might Get Loud"

Get three of the most recognisable guitarists in a room and see what happens.

There are genuine moments of joy in this,

the faces of Jack White and The Edge when Jimmy Page starts playing the riff from Whole Lotta Of Love is one highlight.

You get a lot of interesting back story on each player; rare footage, stories and such

but I think the back and forth of three guys who love what they do and are passionate about it

is what makes this film so entertaining

Amy Winehouse's life seemed to be one of the most published of most personalities

but I never realised how much of it was documented

This film covers a great amount of ground

from her beginnings in the music industry to her last days

It's a heartbreaking watch because you know how everything will ultimately end

and to see her struggle with her addictions makes me well up

I'm not a massive fan of her music but her talents were undeniable

Here's another documentary about a band being average working Joes

whilst still touring but in this case, being twenty years past their prime

Anvil: The Story of Anvil is strangely comedic in that sense,

the term "schadenfreude" comes to mind,

but again the charm and persistence of Steve and Robb

are the saving grace of this motion picture and exactly why you root for them and theirs

The mere fact that the group had something of resurgence after this makes it all worth while

The myth, the man, the legend

Lemmy was one of the greats and this film sets out try and prove it

by having the who's who of rock music on screen fawning over him for 90 mins or so

Those parts don't really work for me.

What does are the stories of his Hawkwind days, his process of writing music

and, something I didn't imagine before I watched, his relationship with his son

His meet up with Dave Grohl is a laugh, performing with Metallica is excruciatingly cringey

but all in all it's worth it.

Here's a bit of a weird one.

This is a documentary about the explosion of 90's punk music from America

including interviews with everyone who was anyone in those days

like Mark Hoppus, Fat Mike, Billie Joe Armstrong

and the whole thing is narrated by skate legend himself Tony Hawk

If you're thinking, why I haven't I heard of this?

It's because it was never released. Legal fees prevented the film coming out

It's a standard fare, famous faces tell you about the thing that happened,

but for me, I like punk rock in all it's forms,

and it was great to hear about the whole movement from the guys who made the moves

Since it's not available of course it's on YouTube for all to see

Should you?

Man, that'd be a really punk rock thing to do, wouldn't it?
