Why is it so hard to sit down and study or work - Duration: 4:45.

There are days, weeks and sometimes even months where your desire to do something productive

is barely existent.

Theres a possibility that you're having a depression episode, but most likely you

aren't, because you're not sad, you're just not feeling compelled enough to get up

and do stuff, stuff that maybe not today, but surely in the future will contribute to

a better life for you, or maybe even for your family and society.

And to properly understand the reasons and solutions to this problem, we need to have

a better understanding of the underlying processes that are taking place when we talk about motivation.

If you're hungry that's not just a simple drive that's pushing you to get something

to eat, it's more of a subpersonality that has a goal, it has a bunch of action patterns

related to that particular goal, and it organizes your emotional responses around that goal.

We can look at it from another perspective.

We could say that motivation set goals, and emotions track progress towards goals.

Generally speaking motivation determines what your aim is, so if you are thirsty you are

going to aim at something to drink, and that will automatically alter your perception so

you zero out everything that is not relevant to that goal.

Once you start to focus on the few things that will guide you forward, your emotions

start to track your progress, so when you encounter those things that facilitate your

movement forward, that produces positive emotions.

On the other hand when you encounter some kind of threat, or blockage between you and

your goal, that produces negative emotions, and that can be anger, disappointment, grief

and so on.

And if you experience some of the more powerful negative emotions like pain for example, that

can cause you to abandon your goal and turn back.

So why is it so hard to get up and do stuff.

And it might be that you just don't have any goals, it might be that you're aiming

at nothing.

So no aim, equals no emotions, which equals no neurochemical fuel to keep you going.

Your case might not be exactly the same, but it is a pretty accurate scenario.

And you might ask, how do you fix that?

Well you need to sit down and set your goals.

See, If you observe a starving rat in cage and it knows it has food at the end of a corridor,

if you put a little spring attached to his tail, you can measure the rats motivation

by measuring how hard the rat pulls, you can measure the displacement of the little spring,

and that will give you a quantization of the motivational force of the rat.

What's more interesting is, if you set up the same scenario with the rat trying to get

to some food and you spray some cat odor behind it, the starving rat would pull even harder,

because it it starving and he really wants to get the hell away from there.

So getting away and and getting somewhere are two distinct motivational systems, and

if you can combine them together then you can make a really powerful motivational force.

And you can start by sitting down and writing your perfect future, and also the possible

hell you want to avoid.

Let's say for example you're not motivated to work out.

You can start by imagining how perfect and healthy your body would be if you only started

to work out for 30 minutes a day, you can then imagine the clothes fitting you perfectly,

your posture, your health, stamina etc.

You can write everything down, you can write about the positive mood and outlook on life

you adopted since you started to work out.

Then imagine the opposite, imagine you being overweight, your IQ dropped because you didn't

exercise or had optimal body weight, so naturally your IQ decreased as you aged.

Imagine going to the doctor and he's telling you that you have an increased chance of heart

attack.

Imagine feeling anxious and depressed, without any self confidence or motivation, stuck being

overweight forever.

And that's a pretty terrifying future as far as I can tell.

Then once you do this, you can sit down and negotiate with yourself.

You can ask yourself, what would you want in return if you would work out for 30 minutes

a day for the next week.

That can be a walk in the park, a beer with your friends, playing video games like whatever

gets you excited, and then agree on that contract with yourself.

This reward, combined with the visualization of the ideal future and possible hell, is

going to produce a high level of motivation and drive to get you started on fixing the

dimensions of your life that need to be fixed.

Now, you have the knowledge, you know how emotions and goals contribute to your motivation,

you know techniques to combine two distinct motivational systems, and you know that you

need to negotiate instead of punishing or tyrannizing yourself.

So my advice is, do the visualisation, write your goals, get up do stuff.

Because If we all get our act together collectively, then maybe we can make this world just a little

bit better for all of us.

So What If A Guy Calls A Girl Pretty? | Luv Pub | Season 1 - EP.06 - Duration: 12:41.

Ga Yeong.

What is it?

Why are you calling me so kindly?

You look especially more pretty today.

(Closed)

(Episode Six, Speechless)

Jin.

Did those people even order anything before doing all that?

They're regulars. They'll order when they're ready.

Yes, sir!

Do regulars get to come to a pub

and hang around like that without ordering anything?

I can't believe this.

Hey, stop. Just calm down.

Don't stop me. I'm working right now.

Why? Are you going to grab her by her hair?

Let go!

This isn't the first time. I can't take this anymore.

Ga Yeong.

Ga Yeong.

What is it?

Why are you calling me so kindly?

You look especially more pretty today.

Can pretty Ga Yeong go and get the order from table four?

I feel kind of embarrassed to say this,

but it's true that

I'm pretty.

Table four is pressing the bell right now because

they want to see the pretty Ga Yeong.

Oh no, I'm having a bad makeup day today.

Am I still pretty?

Jae Hyuk, am I...

Just go.

Go.

Jae Hyuk Han.

A diligent worker who has never dated anyone.

For the first time, his heart has started to flutter.

I'm lucky lucky lucky

I'm lucky lucky lucky

Why do you sound so happy?

Tell me something.

If a guy tells a girl that she's pretty,

what do you think he's thinking?

Are you asking me about how guys think?

I mean, on top of that,

if a guy that seems like he'll never say anything like that

tells you that you're pretty, doesn't it mean

that he likes you?

Well... That could be true or not.

What do you mean, or not?

Since guys are good at lying,

you can't believe them 100 percent.

You seem like someone who's never dated.

How do you know this so well?

I've dated enough

and I know enough too.

(Under Construction)

(Logan Logistics)

(Hyun Su Yoo, Revan Company)

(The number you have dialed is not in service.)

(Please leave a message after the beep.)

Does your shoulder hurt?

Are you hurt?

It's nothing. Don't worry about it.

I don't believe you.

I saw you touching your shoulder from earlier.

Were you watching me

from earlier?

No, it's because

you kept touching your shoulders instead of working.

Go home early today.

I'll finish up in here.

I'm fine.

Don't get sick then.

You keep making me concerned.

He's awkward at everything since it's his first time,

but being awkward doesn't mean that it's wrong.

You're wrong!

-Deok Bae. -Yes?

What did I always tell you?

What is dating about?

Courage.

What are you doing?

Let's see.

People who hook up at pubs

are usually total strangers.

So how do they get acquainted with each other?

That's why I'll teach you

how to appeal your charm to a stranger!

(How to appeal your charm to a stranger)

Girls rarely come to pick-up pubs alone.

First, you need to observe the friend that she came with.

It's better if her friend is outgoing.

You have to get to know her friend first.

An extrovert?

Right.

If she's an extrovert, she might start dancing right away.

Then you can follow her to the stage

and start dancing with her.

But...

what if I'm not good at dancing?

It doesn't matter if you're good or not.

You have to make them put their guards down.

Naturally,

the other girl will be sitting alone.

She might've forgot to order.

What kind of drink

will she like?

Does she look pretty when she claps too?

You're right.

"How can I get to know her better?"

This is what you're thinking, right?

You're right, I...

There's another guy here who's awkward at this.

Bong Nam remains silent.

A million flowers are blooming Blooming, blooming

-Chef. -Gosh, you startled me.

Chef, do you know

what to eat when you're sick?

Are you sick?

It's not me. Someone that I know is sick.

Why? How is he sick?

It's his shoulder. Also, he's suffering from chronic fatigue.

Anyway, he's practically a patient already.

In situations like that,

you need to boil that thingy naturally in that thingy.

Or, you can

get one whole thingy and boil it nice and good.

Chicken soup or abalone porridge is good for fatigue.

It's delicious and nutritious as well.

Yes, that's what I meant.

By the way, who is it?

It's just this timid and silly person.

Anyway, thank you, Chef!

Okay. Hey, wait...

Don't run! Geez.

Lucky dudes.

Who is it?

Ta-da!

Jae Hyuk, I heard that you're sick.

I made something delicious.

Guess what it is.

-What did you make? -Can I go in first?

-No, you can't. -Why not?

Let me in!

Ta-da! It's Ginseng Chicken Soup.

Nothing beats a nutritious and hearty meal like this.

I made some porridge too, so warm it up before you eat.

Okay?

Does it taste good?

You made all of this?

Of course.

It's my first time, so you should be honored.

Don't barge into a guy's house like this.

Geez, I don't do this every day.

It's my first time.

Have some porridge too.

After I finish eating, I'll take you home.

Really?

It's okay. You're sick right now.

It does taste good.

Have some more.

Is it a gift for your girlfriend?

Sorry?

No, she's not my girlfriend yet.

What?

I'm not sure what's going to happen...

It's just...

She has a very pretty face,

but she always wears high heels.

I'm worried that she might fall

and get hurt.

Is there anything for this girl who keeps making me worried?

What?

No, forget it. I'm sorry.

This is very popular these days.

What do you think?

What should I put on?

These?

These seem...

There's really nothing to wear.

Did Jesus Really Say So? - Duration: 2:50.

God speaks and those with ears hear. Jesus said: "My sheep hear My voice, they

listen to Me and they follow Me." Those who are being led by the Spirit of God,

they are the children of God. God does speak and those who are tuned in, those

who are following Jesus, they hear His voice and listen to Him and they obey

Him.

Many people claim that Jesus told them something or that God spoke to them. How

can we know whether that person is speaking the truth? Do we just accept his

word, that Jesus did speak to him, that God told him something, or do we find out

for ourselves whether that is the truth? The only way to find out whether it is

the truth is to ask Jesus Himself, to say" "Lord, that person says that You spoke to

him. Is that the truth?" Jesus will confirm it to you if it is

the truth, but we cannot trust in other people.

We cannot go by what other people say, because then we are following after men.

Jesus speaks to each and every child, to each and everyone who follows Him. If we

need wisdom and we need guidance we must ask of Jesus. Pray, wait on Him, expect an

answer, and He will answer you in His way and in His time. If we follow after

people and we live by their word, by their revelations, then we are not

following Jesus Christ anymore. But if Jesus confirms that He said something to

another person then we are walking by confirmation of

Jesus. Always make sure with Jesus, follow Jesus.

Do not follow men. May Jesus bless you.

Jesus Christ is alive and hell is real. I am here to introduce you to Jesus

Christ so that you can know Him and follow Him and have eternal life.

How Hamsters Can Stuff So Much Food In Their Cheeks - Duration: 3:08.

(gentle music)

- [Narrator] How is it doing that?

Hamsters, like Soda Pop, can stuff up to 20%

of their body weight into their cheeks.

For comparison, that's like the average person

carrying around 30 extra pounds of food,

or about 120 quarter pounders.

It would be a cool party trick, but not very comfortable

or, let's face it, even possible.

That's where hamsters are different.

But they don't stuff their faces for parties,

or even because they're hungry.

They do it to survive.

In the wild, yes, there are actually wild hamsters,

they eat all kinds of food, leaves,

shoots, veggies, and fruit.

What they don't consume right away,

they store in those cheeks, which have pouches

that extend half way down their body

and expand like a balloon.

Thank goodness we don't have anything like that,

because it would probably look a little strange.

But hamsters need to stuff their faces

no matter how goofy it might look.

In fact, they have to eat around every two hours

to function normally, but foraging for food this frequently

would make them easy prey.

Instead, they collect food at night,

and what they don't store, they snack on along the way.

So during the day they can hide from predators

and munch on their hoard in safety.

And thanks to the pouches in their cheeks,

that stockpile can get enormous.

Hamster burrows have been found

with nearly 200 pounds of stored food.

These cheeks also come with special retractor muscles

that help the hamster stuff itself to maximum capacity.

If you ever watch this in action, you may notice

that it reorients the food after plopping it in its mouth.

What it's actually doing is angling the food so it easily

slips to the back of the pouch as more comes in.

Once the food is well on its way,

that's when the retractor muscles come into play.

When the pouch stretches, the muscles contract,

which pushes the food toward the back,

preventing it from clogging up.

Pretty impressive stuff.

But that's not as impressive as some of the other things

hamsters can do with their cheeks.

For starters, some species will hide their babies

inside these pouches to keep them safe.

There are reports that others can inflate their pouches

with air and use it as a flotation device for swimming.

But don't try this at home.

Only certain wild species do this,

and we don't want you to drown your poor hamster.

We'd rather have you sit

and enjoy the incredible cuteness of Soda Pop.

Here's a fun fact.

Hamsters can run over five miles in a 24-hour period.

Why It's So Hard For Millennials To Buy Homes - Duration: 3:35.

When I was born,

the median price for a house was $108,900.

Now, it's $337,200.

Even if you account for inflation,

that's about a 45% increase in cost.

But buying a house is something I would like to do.

So I'm trying to figure out if I can.

The odds are pretty stacked against me.

I'm a millennial, and I graduated college in 2010,

right in the middle of the recession.

When I entered the workforce, the job market was rough.

Like many of my peers, I have student loan debt.

And on top of that, there aren't very many

starter or mid-price homes on the market.

My personal financial situation

has to do with choices I made.

I changed careers at 27,

I took out loans to go back to grad school,

and I didn't manage to save any money before that.

But that's not abnormal for someone my age.

According to a LinkedIn study,

it's common for millennials to change jobs

about three times in the first five years after college.

And in the eight years I've been out of college,

I've lived in New York City the whole time.

Median cost of a home here? $770,000.

I certainly can't afford that.

When I look at my income, cost of living

and student loan debt, the idea of buying something

as expensive as a house seems nearly impossible.

My dream home would look something like this.

Or this.

But even if my boyfriend and I took our combined income

of $100,000 a year, that apartment is a pipe dream.

I went to Business Insider's

own financial planner, Lauren Lyons Cole.

I figured if anyone could help me, it would be her.

When you're just starting out,

you can calculate a general price range

by taking your annual income and multiplying it by three.

With a combined income of about $100,000 a year,

that means a home that costs around $300,000

would be a good starting point.

- That's not as bad as I was expecting,

but I have no idea what I can get for that price.

- With a budget like that in New York City,

you probably aren't gonna find that many options.

So you might have to make sacrifices,

which could even mean relocating to another city.

But then you have to figure out

what kind of job options are there,

and how much could you get paid

to do the work you want to do.

You have to think about which amenities you really want

and which ones you can do without.

- I've always wanted some kind of outdoor space,

like maybe a balcony.

A two-bedroom would be nice...

big windows...

maybe a turret.

What?

I'm a millennial.

I'm idealistic.

- Once you have an idea of what you can afford

and what you're willing to give up,

you can take the next step and start looking at listings

that are available in your price range.

- With the budget Lauren and I came up with,

I browsed options in a few cities

I could see myself living in.

I wasn't amazed with anything I came across,

but there were some that were nice.

Not so much in New York, especially when I compare it

to the apartment I live in now, which is below market rent.

I also checked out Grand Rapids, Michigan

because it was number one on Business Insider's list

of best housing markets for millennials.

There I did find some amazing places within my budget,

but I can't see myself picking up

and moving there right now.

For me, owning a place isn't worth living somewhere

where I don't know anyone and I don't have a job lined up.

So I think for now I'm gonna keep renting

and try to save up for a down payment.

Maybe in a few years

the price of avocado toast will go down,

and I'll be able to afford that dream castle.

Maybe a balcony...

a two-bedroom would be nice...

big windows...

maybe a turret.

It 🔶 Was Like a Prison! It Was SO Fake!😧Christina Aguilera SLAMS The Voice - Duration: 3:53.

As fans have seen recently with Christina Aguilera's stunning bare-faced photo , she

is updating her image and stripping away everything that she considers "fake."

Now she's telling the world exactly how she feels about her time as a judge on The Voice

.

And she is not holding back.

In her interview with Billboard , Christina Aguilera says that being on The Voice felt

like a prison.

She describes the experience and the show as an "energy sucker," and compares churning

out episodes to running a "hamster wheel."

Speaking of that time, she says:

"I was longing for freedom."

She had a self-care routine when she would get home from the set.

"I would just take everything off -- the makeup, all of it -- and would blast hip-hop, or Nirvana,

'Creep,' Slayer."

So ... rebellious music for old people.

"Anything like that to get me out of that zone, that TV mode."

Christina says that one of the things that she did not enjoy was the limitations forced

upon her.

"I didn't get into this business to be a television show host and to be given all these [rules]."

Some people find comfort in the clarity that rules provide.

Christina is not one of those people.

"Especially as a female: You can't wear this, can't say that.

I would find myself on that show desperately trying to express myself through clothing

or makeup or hair."

Sometimes, little acts of rebellion go a long way.

"It was my only kind of outlet."

Hey, whatever works.

She says that her experience on  The Voice  got worse as time went on.

"It became something that I didn't feel was what I had signed up for in Season 1."

Sometimes, shows change.

(And it probably didn't help that her $17 million starting salary got cut down to a

paltry $12.5 million)

"You realize it's not about music."

Well, if it were about the music and not about making a show, then it probably wouldn't be

on television.

"It's about making good TV moments and massaging a story."

Yep.

Christina talks about her own upcoming album, Liberation .

"To me, there's nothing like an amazing hip-hop beat."

And she's not just saying that because hip-hop has really climbed up on the charts since

her personal musical heyday.

"At the end of the day, I am a soul singer."

Sure.

"When you strip back the words 'pop star' and the many things that I've done, singing

soulfully is where my core, my root and my heart really is."

Well, some people strongly prefer pop stars.

But Christina is her own person and can make whatever kind of music she likes.

"And as you can see, it's what I'm inspired by."

She does admit that she finds touring a little daunting.

"Touring is so frightening to me, because I am a mom first.

It's part of why I stayed in the position I was [at  The Voice ]."

So she's leaving her comfort zone for her art.

"It's easy to get comfortable and cushy in the same place and not have to worry about

uprooting your kids.

I've been putting myself on the back burner."

Plenty of people would have been happy to do The Voice for decades if given the option.

But Christina is an artist.

"It needs to happen.

I'm looking forward to getting back out and actually showing my kids what Mommy really

does!"

That's so exciting!
