Ahhhh! That's better. Okay, so... super exciting! I have finally made it
to someplace I wanted to go for a really really long time, but the thing is is
that it's only open- like it's a seasonal thing, and I never happen to be in the
area during the season or it just- it just doesn't work out. But this time it
did, I am here, I just parked, I'm super stoked. So first off let's get the boring
stuff out of the way in case you want to come here I'm gonna gonna help you out a
little bit and give you some information about it. So let's start with the basics:
What is it called? It is called Texas Tulips. What does that mean? It means it's
in Texas and there's tulips, pretty self-explanatory. Quick overview, these
people- they were originally from the Netherlands I believe, they somehow found
some pretty cool farmland in Texas, decided they want to grow some tulips,
and every year they allow people to come onto their property and pick their own
tulips. So as I said, it is a seasonal thing so it opens pretty much like the
end of February/beginning of March and you can come any time towards the end of
March / beginning of April. It kind of depends on the weather and a whole bunch
of other things, but for the most part that's when they're open. During that
time period they are open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. so you got
plenty of time to come and check out the awesomeness that is here. And quickly
let's just cover price because I know that that is going to be a question
that a lot of people have. So, seniors and veterans they have a different price, but
the general public is going to be a $5 entrance fee and since you can pick your
own flowers- you don't have to, so if you just want to come and peruse and check
out the tulips then it's $5, but it is $2.50 cents per flower that
you pick. So next, some little extras. Restrooms: yes!
Picnic tables: yes! Concessions: yes! Handicap accessible: yes! Granted if it's
just been like raining and it's super muddy that might not be the best
time to bring like a wheelchair or a stroller or something, but for the most part you're good.
However, on the other hand: Dogs: no. And no outside food to drink.
Alright cool, so I think that is pretty much everything
relevant that I could tell you about this place and now I think I think you just need to see it.
Alright back in the van, that was super fun. Got these flowers next to me. And
I realized that I need to go buy a vase to put them in or something so I'm gonna go do that.
So after going, just a few extra things to note: they do take card. However when
it comes to the entrance I found it was a lot easier to just pay cash
because you get to skip the line versus waiting for everyone else who is using a
card, but when you pay for your flowers or whatever paying with a card was
super chill. The concessions I didn't really feel like they were worth it, it was just
stuff like Doritos, Hot Cheetos, like chocolate bars. It wasn't anything really-
like it wasn't real food it was junk food and so I was- I would personally say
that the concessions weren't really worth it.
But it is like a really really good time and it's so cute there's a lot of like
little kids that are super well dressed taking like little spring pictures and
things like that. So, I mean you can definitely get some good photos in. And
it is really neat to see just like rows and rows of tulips and like all the
different colors. Keep in mind that you are picking them yourself. So they have
baskets there that you can put all of your flowers in, they provide those, but
since you have to pick it yourself I would definitely say like being able to
have both of your hands free is- it's pretty important. So whether that be by
having someone else hold your stuff, a purse, a backpack, a fanny pack, whatever...
Just keep in mind that that's a thing having both of your hands free makes
it a lot easier. And on that note, since you are picking them yourself you are
going to get in a lot of the soil and everything. So having like baby wipes or
hand sanitizer so that you can wipe your hands at the end of all that, awesome.
So the fields themselves they are- the soil is kind of loose, there's a lot of sand, so
for instance today when I went it was really windy and one thing I definitely
regretted was not putting on sunglasses. As I was walking around out there sand
kind of got in my eyes. So sunglasses might be something you definitely want
to bring along with you. And your shoes, as I said there are a lot of people
there that were like really well-dressed and taking pictures so I mean sandals-
you can totally wear stuff like that, but because of the fact that it's been
raining here the past couple of days I think it was like just a little bit
muddy so I made it a point to wear shoes that I didn't mind if they got dirty.
Again, I don't know if it's always like that, but you know, something to keep in mind.
