U.S. President Donald Trump is sounding the alarm about North Korea.

He says Pyongyang's reckless pursuit of nuclear missiles threatens the United States.

Lee Jeong-yeon has more on Trump's debut State of the Union address.

U.S. President Donald Trump delivered his maiden State of the Union speech to Congress

on Tuesday.

He said "maximum pressure" will be placed on North Korea as he referred to the regime's

"cruel dictatorship" and its "reckless pursuit of nuclear missiles" that could threaten the

U.S..

"Complacency and concessions only invite aggression and provocations.

I will not repeat the mistakes of the past administrations that got us into this dangerous

position."

He also narrated the incident with the late Otto Warmbier, whose family was present at

the address, as well as the story of the North Korean defector Ji Seong-ho who was also in

the audience.

Aside from comments on the regime, he mainly stressed 'unity' and 'reconciliation' of different

parties to come together 'for the people.'

Immigration took a pivotal portion of his speech.

He said he would push for policies that focus on the 'best interests of American workers

and American families,' by crafting a bipartisan approach to immigration reform.

He mentioned the 'four pillars' plan.

This includes a pathway to provide citizenship to 1-point-8 million unregistered immigrants

in the U.S., building a wall on the Southern border with Mexico, abolishing the visa lottery

to move towards a 'merit-based immigration system,' and ending chain migration to protect

the nuclear family.

He also took credit for the record-low unemployment rate and rising wages after 'years of stagnation,'

and claimed that 2-point-4 million new jobs were created since his election.

Trump called on the Congress to produce a bill that generates at least 1-point-5 trillion

U.S. dollars for investment on new infrastructure... to 'permanently fix the infrastructure deficit.'

He also said the U.S. has enacted the biggest tax cuts and reforms in its history, a move

that, according to Trump, will provide 'tremendous relief for the middle class and small businesses.'

US deploys aircraft carrier off coast where Russian ship was spotted 27 miles from shore - DAILYNEWS - Duration: 3:52.

US deploys aircraft carrier off coast where Russian ship was spotted 27 miles from shore

A US aircraft carrier has been dispatched from a naval base in Virginia days after a

Russian spy ship was spotted just 27 miles off the coast.

The USS George HW Bush, a Nimitz-class supercarrier, was deployed from Naval Station Norfolk, in

southeastern Virginia, on Tuesday morning, according to maritime traffic monitors.

Naval trackers show the 1,092ft aircraft carrier is sailing through the Atlantic Ocean but

details of its mission were not immediately available.

The last mission involving the USS George HW Bush was a seven-month deployment in support

of Operation Inherent Resolve – the fight against ISIS in Syria and Iraq.

The deployment comes less than a week after Russian intelligence vessel the Viktor Leonov

was tracked off the coast of Virginia, home to the USS George HW Bush.

The Viktor Leonov, part of Russia's Northern Fleet, was tailed by US Navy ships including

destroyer USS Cole.

A US military plane, a P-8A Poseidon, was launched from Naval Air Station Jacksonville

to track the Russian ship, flight trackers showed.

At its closest, the Russian ship sailed just 24 nautical miles (27 miles) off the coast

of Norfolk on the US east coast.

Citing the latest tracking data, Steffan Watkins, a naval security analyst from Canada, said

the Viktor Leonov is now 350km east of Atlantic City, off New Jersey's Atlantic coast.

Flight monitors show a P-8A Poseidon, dubbed the "submarine killer", was sent to the

region earlier this week in an apparent mission to monitor the ship, he told Daily Star Online.

The Viktor Leonov, a high-tech spy ship designed to intercept communications signals, was spotted

operating in the Caribbean last week, according to a US defence official.

US officials believe the Viktor Leonov is currently on a four-to-six month mission to

gather intelligence off the US coast coast.

The vessel is a high-tech 300-feet-long spy ship designed to intercept electronic signals,

such a radio.

The US Navy has spotted the ship in several locations in recent months, including Cape

Canaveral, Florida; Kings Bay, Georgia, Virginia and New London.

Last March, the Viktor Leonov was spotted 20 miles south of the US Naval Submarine Base

Kings Bay, near the Florida border.

Having made similar trips in 2017, 2015, 2014 and 2012, an official said the US Navy were

expecting the Viktor Leonov to be deployed to the area again.

In February last year, Trump said he could get "tough" on Russia but stressed him

would prefer to "make a deal".

To illustrate his point, Trump said the "greatest thing I could do" was shoot the Viktor Leonov

"right out of the water".

"Everyone will say, 'Oh, it's so great, it's so great," Trump added.

"That's not great."

CNN 10 | CNN Student News | February 1, 2018 | Leader of the U.S. Centers - Duration: 10:02.

Welcome to February and a new edition of CNN 10.

I'm Carl Azuz explaining what's going on in nations around the world.

First, today, we're going to the Middle East, for an update for the war- torn country

of Yemen.

It's located between Saudi Arabia and the Gulf of Aden.

Its location is important because Yemen also borders one of the

world's most used shipping lanes where the Red Sea meets the Gulf of Aden, and its ongoing

civil war, which flared up in 2011, could have an impact on

international shipping.

Ninety-nine percent of Yemen's 28 million people are Muslim, but there are religious

divisions among them.

Most Yemenis are Sunni Muslim, but just

over a third are Shiite Muslim.

And for years, a Shiite militant group called the Houthis has been rebelling against the

Yemeni government.

International officials believe the Houthis are supported by Iran, a predominantly Shiite

Muslim country.

The Yemeni government forces are

supported by Saudi Arabia, a predominantly Sunni Muslim country.

So, religious tensions in the region outside Yemen factor in, too.

The situation, especially for many civilians is desperate but there's no end in sight.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

NIC ROBERTSON, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Yemen is in a midst of a civil war.

Iranian-backed Houthi rebels unseated the internationally recognized

government of President Abdrabbuh Hadi in 2015.

The Houthi rebels initially took control of the capital Sana'a and much of the rest

of the

country.

Saudi Arabia, through airstrikes, leads a coalition, including the UAE, Bahrain, Egypt

and Sudan, supporting the government's ground offensives,

who now claimed they hold 85 percent of the country's territory.

However, Houthi rebels still control the capital Sana'a and the strategic Red Sea

port of Hodeida.

The U.N. report says neither side is doing enough to prevent civilian suffering.

More than 13,000 civilian casualties are reported so far, with

nearly 1/3 of Yemen's population close to starvation, and one million at risk of cholera.

The value of the Yemeni rial is suffering.

Fuel is in

short supply and food is getting more expensive.

The U.N. report also accuses Iran of failing to stop direct or indirect supply of Iranian

made ballistic missiles to the Houthi rebels who fired

them at Saudi cities, including the capital Riyadh.

Houthi rebels are threatening international shipping in the Red Sea, warning they'll

close the waterway through which 1/10 of the world's

maritime trade passes.

The conflict is complex.

Yemen has always been poor and has long relied on aid from its prosperous northern neighbor

Saudi

Arabia.

Hadi's government is battling not just Houthi rebels but al Qaeda or ISIS with American

military help and faces a separate strong separatist movement

in the south.

For now, the government plans to continue its military offensive to pressure the Houthis

to talks.

The war is far from over.

AZUZ: Investigators are trying to figure out what led to an accident yesterday that involved

a large garbage truck and train carrying dozens of

members of the U.S. Congress.

Almost 100 Republicans, including senators, representatives and House Speaker Paul Ryan

were headed to a retreat in West Virginia when the train

they were traveling on collided with the tractor trailer.

The driver of the truck was killed.

Six other people, including two Amtrak crew members

were hospitalized.

Except for some minor injuries, all the members of Congress were reportedly OK.

Several of them thanked the first responders and asked people to pray

for the victims of the accident and their families.

And because some of the lawmakers are doctors or have medical training, they were able to

help

those who were hurt.

U.S. President Donald Trump said the Republican lawmakers conference would go on as planned.

The director of the CDC, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, resigned from her job

on Wednesday.

Dr. Brenda Fitzgerald, an

obstetrician/gynecologist from Georgia, had served as head of the CDC since she was appointed

last July.

But about a month after that, she reportedly

bought stock in a number of companies that included Japan Tobacco, one of the largest

tobacco businesses in the world.

That's according to a report

that came out earlier this week from "Politico", a political news organization.

Tobacco smoking is the leading caused of preventable death in the U.S.

And Dr. Fitzgerald has spoken out against it and offered the government's help

in getting people to quit.

So, critics say here stockholding in a tobacco company was a conflict of interest.

A spokesman for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, which oversees the CDC,

says the stock purchase wasn't made directly by Dr.

Fitzgerald, that her financial account manager did it.

And another former director of the CDC says he believes that Fitzgerald didn't know

that her

financial manager had made the investment in Japan Tobacco, and that when she found

out, she said to sell the stock.

Another doctor has been brought in to head up the CDC until Fitzgerald's replacement

is named.

SUBTITLE: What tobacco does to your health.

Tobacco kills more than 7 million people worldwide each year.

It causes many diseases and harms nearly every organ within the body.

Toxins from tobacco smoke enter the blood stream and reduce oxygen circulating to organs.

Ninety percent of all lung cancer deaths are caused by smoking.

Tobacco can also lead to heart disease, and doubles the risk of a heart attack.

Oral health is affected, causing tooth loss, bad breath and gum disease.

It reduces the amount of oxygen that gets to your skin, ageing the skin quickly.

About one in two smokers will die from a smoking-related disease.

But quitting will gradually reduce the risk of being affected by these diseases.

North Korea will declare WAR on US if Donald Trump imposes further sanctions, Russia warns - Duration: 2:58.

North Korea will declare WAR on US if Donald Trump imposes further sanctions, Russia warns

RUSSIA has issued a stark war warning to the rest of the world that any further sanctions

cutting off oil supplies to North Korea would be "perceived as a declaration of war",

it has emerged.

Alexander Matsegora, Moscow's envoy to North Korea, cautioned Donald Trump not to place

any further sanctions on Kim Jong-un surrounding "supplies of oil".

He warned: "If the supplies of oil and oil product are stopped, it would mean a complete

blockade of the DPRK (North Korea)."

He added that such an action would "be perceived as a declaration of war with all its consequences".

The current UN sanction that caps oil supplies to 540,000 tons from China and 60,000 tons

of refined oil from other nations was labelled as "a drop in the ocean".

China is the biggest trade partner of Kim Jong-un - the recent UN sanctions saw trade

between the two nations slashed in half.

Mr Matsegora recently explained that Russian specialists told him that Kim Jong-un was

massively increasing his military might and that Donald Trump should think twice before

making good on his promise to deliver "fire and fury".

He went on: "It can be said that the North Koreans have managed to achieve a serious

improvement in their missile program over the past year."

Donald Trump's increasingly aggressive rhetoric towards North Korea has led the US to push

for increased sanctions to tighten the world's grip on the aggressive nation.

Before Christmas, the UN Security Council unanimously voted to cut exports of gasoline,

diesel and other oil products by 89 per cent.

At the time, Nikki Haley, the US ambassador to the UN, declared that "today, we cut

deeper" as she explained that the provocative nation had "chosen the path of isolation".

She added: "We will continue to match the Kim regime's choice of aggressive action with

actions of international sanctions.

"This most tragic example of evil in the modern world."

President Donald Trump added the unanimous decision showed the "world wants peace".

He tweeted: "The United Nations Security Council just voted 15-0 in favour of additional

Sanctions on North Korea.

The World wants Peace, not Death!"
