coffee in the end he was the best of us all right King Julien chimed with his

booms but before you consume me I'm curious that's your plan

predict your brilliant King brain would go after my fields maybe

I hope you're applauding your own downfall Carl because that's what's

happening here you're falling truly despite your genius

you've never been able to take care of your people so now I will and no falling

balloon is going to and they are officially on strike we want a working

wage whatever that is and a retirement plan that doesn't involve being tied up

Longlists, Channel Changes, Goals & DNF'd Books - Duration: 14:23.

Hello, Bookworms. I'm Hannah, and I'm posting this video in lieu of an April

Wrap-Up. Normally when I sit down to record I have my thoughts organized, but

I didn't have time to do that this month, so I'm just going to talk to you and

wing it and hopefully I can edit this video into something salvageables

Speaking of talking to you I have a quick question to ask before I get into

everything I want to discuss in this video. I feel like I'm having something

of an identity crisis on my channel, and I could use some feedback from all of

you. Many of you know I moved in January, and prior to that move I was recording

in a very small, laughably small, space. All of my lights and equipment in camera

were just [whoosh] right here in front of my face, I was working with a low quality

microphone that forced me to shout, and I was nervous being on camera for the

first time, so all of that working in tandem meant that I was very poised and

loud and bubbly in my initial videos, and now that I've moved I have more space to

move around and I'm more comfortable in front of the camera and I've noticed

myself sort of loosening up on camera and being more conversational. Some of

you have said that you like this new conversational approach, but when I'm

editing footage I feel as though I look sleepy on camera. I don't feel like my

genuine enthusiasm for books and how passionate I feel about storytelling in

books is really coming across on camera. It's not unlike me to overthink things,

and I'm overthinking this. I don't know if I should be exuberant and

exceptionally bubbly or if I should just be, you know, calm and conversational and

so if you want to weigh-in in the comments and let me know whhich you prefer

that would really help me. Now back to the January move. That was the catalyst

in everything that I'm going to be discussing in this video, because that

move was unexpected, it was quick it, was sudden, and it had an enormous impact on

my schedule. I now wake up on most days at about 5:50 in the morning and I don't

get home until sometime between 7 & 8 o'clock at night. And that means that I

don't have as much time to read, and I'm not tending to my personal goals for the

year, which I'll be discussing later in this video, and it means I really

have time to be making videos like I used to. I have realized that I have to

make some adjustments in my schedule, some adjustments on my channel, and I

really need to sort of recalibrate my life so that I don't lose my mind. That

sudden move in January meant that I didn't really have time to make a video

reflecting on the last year and sharing with you my goals for this year, so I'm

going to do that in today's video. One of the things I wanted to do about last

year was sort of wipe the slate clean on any unfinished projects, and that

included reviewing all of the books nominated for the Andre Norton award. I

was doing something a little different with those videos where I integrated a

lot more sound and music, sound effects and music, that is, but those are the most

labor-intensive videos I make, and they don't warrant many views. If they're not

helping many people find books then I'm not sure that they're worth my time, so

I'm not going to finish those. And I had an epic library book haul video I planned

to make. When I first mentioned that video I said that it was a daunting

video, and that is true, it's still true. It's so daunting I never got to it, so

not going to be doing that. And I also wanted to adjust this year to cater to

two personal goals for the year. The first of those goals was to read more books

that I want to read, make sure that I was reading books that I want to read, and

you saw that reflected in my reaction to this year's Women's Prize longlist. I

wasn't excited by all of the books on the list, and so I chose not to read them.

If those books aren't going to make me happy or enrich my life then they're not

the books that I need to be reading right now. There are a couple of things I

want to say about the Women's Prize long list and now seems like a good time, so

first, let me mention that reading and reviewing an entire longlist is an

enormous time commitment. It's one thing to read 16 books, that alone is a huge

time commitment, but it takes so long for booktubers to reflect on the books they

read, gather their thoughts, spend time recording videos, then edit those videos

and upload those videos to YouTube, then field comments on those videos.

It's very flattering when people say, "I can't wait to hear your thoughts on this

book," or "I can't wait to see your thoughts on the longlist," or "I'm really

hoping you'll review a complete longlist." I find it very endearing, and I'm

sure other booktubers do too, but I just want to let people know that as a

booktuber and a content creator there is a sense of pressure that comes with

these longlists, this pressure that we should be reading and reviewing all of

these books, and a lot of us just don't have time or a lot of us sacrifice other

things in our lives to make those videos happen for you guys, so I would just

caution everybody against making their beloved booktubers feel pressured to

review these complete long lists, because a booktube channel is essentially a

part-time job that's unpaid work. Also in relation to the Women's Prize longlist

and longlists in general, I made an observation recently and I came to a

realization that I want to talk about briefly. The observation was that the

Women's Prize gifted at least one booktuber the complete longlist which

is so cool and incredibly generous, but that booktuber was a guy, and this is a

prize that celebrates women creatives, and I think it's a shame that there's

not more support of the women booktubers who are out here sacrificing our time,

money, and energy creating content showcasing these longlist and

shortlist books. Now I understand that the Women's Prize is a sponsored event

and anytime something is sponsored that involves money, that's a business there

needs to be a return on investment, and that means that a booktuber with a

higher subscriber count or a bigger Twitter following is going to get more

support. And maybe the problem is that some of the avid women surprise

reviewers, like myself or Jennifer at Insert Literary Pun Here, we're very

critical of these books. We hold these books to a higher standard, because we're

told that they are the best books in women's fiction from the last year. Now

this leads me to the realization. That's a false statement; there's no way that

statement could be true. Hundreds of thousands of books are published each

year, and these longlists are comprised from reviewing usually about 200 books

that publishers submit for consideration. So 5 judges make their way through 200

books and most of the judge - I don't think the judges even read all 200 books

I believe they're divided to a set number of books per judge and then

they put forth their favorites and the list gets whittled down until we have,

you know, a 16 or 20 book longlist. Which leads me to talk about the judges for a

moment, because the panel judges is usually five people. Those five people

change every year, and thank goodness, because everyone has varied taste in

books. And this is the realization that I've come to. When five people are

working together to comprise a longlist we get a very diverse mix of books which

is a good thing. No one book is going to satisfy everybody. An eclectic mix of

books means that there's something for everyone. And the realization is that:

Fundamentally, I don't think longlists are designed to be read in their

entirety; I don't think we're supposed to read all of those books, because it's

just statistically improbable that any one of us will love all of them. That's

why half of the longlists I read tend to make me miserable, and the other half

fill me with joy, and that's true for a lot of other critical booktubers. The

word critical leads me to another point I want to discuss in this video and

that's that looking back on this year so far I have experienced unprecedented

reading highs and reading lows in a way I never have before, and it's

souring my enjoyment of books and it's making me a bit of a booktube grump. I

don't like how negative I've been in so many of my videos. I don't want to be

somebody who's just ranting about books all the time. I started this channel to

help people find books they'll love and enjoy, and I want to get back to that

which means I am not going to make my video review of See What I Have Done by

Sarah Schmidt. It's a longlist book on this year's Women's Prize list that

really didn't jive with me, but hey, that ties into my realization about longlists.

This book doesn't work for me, but it might work for you. If you think the

synopsis sounds cool, give it a shot. I don't want to make a whole video

complaining about it, so I'm not going to record that video. I'm really gonna try

to stick to more upbeat, positive reviews. However, I am going to briefly rant about

one more book before I proceed with being more positive on my channel, and

I'm doing that because I DNF'd a book in April for the first time since

August of 2016. For those of you who are curious the book IDNF'd in 2016 was

The Watchmaker of Filigree Street by Natasha Pulley. Pulley is an Oxford graduate

and yet I'm not sure she knows what pronouns are, or how to use them. The book

I DNF'd in April of this year is Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi.

Now here's the rub on this book. When Adeyemi's agent was shopping the

book to publishers, publishers thought it was going to be big, and they got into a

bidding war over it. I didn't know this when I started reading it, but the

winning bid was a seven-figure offer. When a publisher spends seven figures on

the rights to publish a book they put all of their weight behind promoting

that book. They get their author out there on talk shows and podcasts. They

build up as much hype as they possibly can to make everyone think this is going

to be the next big thing, and they slap a gorgeous, irresistible cover on the book

so that everyone buys it so that they can recoup their investment, and what I'm

essentially saying is that we were all duped into thinking this poorly written

debut is the next big thing when it's not. I want my money back. Adeyemi

credits Sabaa Tahir, author of An Ember in the Ashes, with being a source

of inspiration for her writing, but that's not what's going on here. This

brings to mind Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert, a wonderful book on writing and

being an artist. In it, Elizabeth Gilbert says that as creatives we imitate until

we innovate. Theoretically, as aspiring authors, we should get noticed when we

start innovating, and Children of Blood and Bone is one of those fluke instances

where a fledgling author got noticed in a big big way when she was still

imitating. If you read Children of Blood and Bone next to An Ember in the Ashes,

beat for beat Adeyemi is essentially copying Tahir's work. I'm not okay with

that. I'm angry about this book, about Children of Blood and Bone, and I won't

be seeing the movie and, frankly, I don't care how beautiful the second book is I

will not be buying it. Alright, now that we've got the rant out of the way let's

move on to goal number two which was to focus more on my writing this year,

something I didn't really do last year because I was busy querying agents.

A lot of you know that I'm a writer, and some of you have caught on to the fact

that I review books as a writer where I touch on themes, but I don't delve into

that too much because most of us went over that in school and I don't think

you need me holding your hand walking you through themes and symbols in books.

But I do touch a lot on character depth and plot pacing and structure and

storytelling, because that's important to me. It's partly why I read books, to

learn and take what I learn and use it in my own writing. As I mentioned, I spent

last year querying. I had a lot of success in a Twitter pitch, had numerous

requests for my manuscript, and obviously those didn't result in any offers of

representation. If they had I would just be screaming on my channel of joy, but

short of having an agent offer representation the next thing that any

aspiring author can covet is an offer to query again, and I got some of those. I

have agents who said, "You write well, you just need to work on this,

please query me again in future." And I'm really looking forward to the moment

when I can present something new to them, and I'm working on something new now. But

I'm finding it difficult to devote time and energy to it, so I have to make fewer

videos in order to spend more time writing. So that leads me to basically,

you know, recalibrating my life and realizing that, for a while at least, I'm

just going to make monthly wrap-up videos. And since I'm reading less there

may be some months where I don't have enough quality reads to make a

substantial wrap-up video, and I think in those instances I will finally get to

some of the videos I've been wanting to do for the last year but haven't had

time to do, because I've been reading long lists and reviewing the Women's

Prize and the Man Booker. Some of those videos I've wanted to get are, you know,

my favorite reads of all time. I want to share with you my favorite book of all

time, and I keep waiting to do it because there's never time to. I've been tagged

in some book tag videos; I've never gotten around to making those. And the

one video I really hope to make before the year concludes, because a lot of you

have asked for it, is a bookshelf tour which is possibly the most daunting

video a booktuber can make, but I get it. I would want a bookshelf tour too; I love

watching people's bookshelf tour videos, so I will try to make one before the

year concludes. In the meantime I've taken to posting mini book

haul pictures on my Instagram, so you can follow me there if you want to see what

new books I'm getting throughout the year, because I definitely don't have

time for book haul videos right now. I think that's everything I wanted to

cover in this video. Oh! I did want to mention that whatever video I post in

the month of May will either be early or late. But I think I covered everything

else: the longlist, being more positive on my channel, making fewer videos while I

focus on my writing, and making sure that I'm really reading books but I want to

read this year. Yeah, I think that's all of it. I do want to reiterate that I'm so

grateful to everyone who has subscribed to my channel and leaves me positive

comments and positive messages. It's so uplifting, especially since I make these

videos for you. These videos aren't for me; they are for you, and I hope that you

continue to enjoy them and that you'll be patient with me while I take a little

bit of time to recharge my batteries. Thanks, everybody.

Be One - Duration: 1:01.

We're often told it's okay to be angry.

Indignant

People say we should be competitive.

Fierce

That we should be powerful-

Even overbearing

And so we continue to separate.

Divide

Go our own ways

When the one thing we really need—

The thing that would help us see each other as God sees us—

To grow more kind

To be more loving

To feel more whole

Is to be one.

How Kelsey Launched Full-Time on YouTube with a Small Channel - Duration: 5:44.

- One of the most common issues that creators have

is finding time to grow a YouTube channel,

even in the midst if busyness with kids

or jobs or other things

that actually generate the revenue

so you can keep creating.

This is Kelsey and she's gonna tell us her story

of how she does that.

Hey guys, my name is Tim Schmoyer,

and welcome to Video Creators.

This channel is all about helping you guys

grow a YouTube audience so you can spread a message

that reaches people and changes their lives.

And sometimes it's really hard to actually do that

the way you want to on YouTube

when you've to a lot of other stuff going on.

Tell us about who you are

and tell us about your channel and what's your story.

- My channel actually emerged

through my full-time job at the time.

I was working on a digital team

at the US Department of State,

promoting international exchange programs.

And I was actually training a lot of the colleagues

at work how to do video.

And I really fell in love with it,

and I thought, you know,

maybe I can try this YouTube thing.

I had been sort of interested in it.

So I uploaded the first video in August of 2016.

And just started doing it on the side,

it became my creative outlet.

And then I just was like, you know what,

this is growing.

I created some partnerships,

and then in September of last year

I decided to leave my full-time job

to pursue this full-time

amidst other freelance projects as well.

I decided that I could do this full-time

as long as I am doing side courses.

I'm sure you guys have heard of Lynda.com

where you can learn online, pay a membership fee.

So it's kind of like what I already do,

but instead it's for a company called Pluralsight,

where I do full-length courses.

So in a sense it kinda relates

because I can be like, hey,

here's a quick tip on YouTube.

By the way, you can go and watch my full course

on how to do essential graphics in Premiere Pro,

or something like that.

So that takes a lot of my attention too,

when I have to do that when I'm in the midst

of production.

Because I'm authoring that entire course.

Like, I'm writing it, I'm recording it,

I'm editing it.

That takes a lot of time.

- I have my own courses.

- Yeah.

- And I think it's way underestimated

how long it takes to put together.

- So much time.

It's a fine line, you know.

I'm trying to be grateful for what I have

but also trying to work towards that ultimate goal

which is like creating videos that you guys will love

and learn from and just doing that.

- Yeah.

- You just feel like sometimes

you're playing catch-up and you get behind,

then you're like, oh, you see what other people

are doing and you start to doubt yourself

a little bit.

But I'm always trying to stay as positive as I can,

but yeah, it can get frustrating

when I'm like, why did I decide to go to, like,

grad school and have this student loan?

But I've only been doing this for like a year and a half.

I need to have patience.

I was getting frustrated by the fact

that I wasn't making enough money

from YouTube monetization alone.

So I was like, okay, let's work with partners.

And I was lucky enough to actually land

my first sponsored video on my second YouTube video.

I started doing sponsored videos

where I would just promote an entire product

and explain it.

And then I was like, you now what,

I don't really wanna just promote

the entire product because it becomes too sales-sy.

You know what I mean?

I wanna create videos on how to create something

but still make revenue, so that was a problem for me.

Because then my viewers were like,

you're just selling stuff.

Like, I wanna learn stuff.

So that was a big problem.

So to overcome that, Tim,

what I did was I was like, hey, partners

that we've had a relationship for for over a year,

what if you guys are interested in actually

just helping me?

I'll promote your product each month.

We'll come up with a partnership model,

and I'll just subtly integrate your products

in my work.

And that way it's not solely focused

on that particular product,

but I'm still supporting them in other ways.

You know, when you move somewhere new

and you have student loans like I do,

all of the frustration that I have

is all the money that I'm making

is going out towards paying that loan right now.

And so I'm really having no profits right now.

It's just about the love of doing YouTube

and paying off my loan.

That's my focus for the next five years.

But, so to do that I have to also pick up other jobs.

- What advice would you have for a creator

who's in a similar spot as you?

I mean I do YouTube full-time,

but I'm still in the same spot where there's like,

even when you're full-time on YouTube

you don't get to do just YouTube full-time.

There's a whole money aspect,

and the frustrations are real,

both when you're not making full-time income

and then even when you are making full-time income.

It's not just all fun and games anymore.

So I feel that as well.

- So first off, get a white board.

I know it sounds very basic,

but we recently got a white board

in our little studio space that we have,

and just writing down ideas every time you have them...

- Like a video idea?

- Like a video idea.

Or a partnership that you wanna get.

And set goals that way.

It's helped a lot.

With my mental, you know, capacity

to process everything and remember everything

that I wanna do.

So do that.

And just make checklists.

It helps you say like,

now I know that that was way too much to take on.

And now I can be like, okay,

I can really only do like three things this week.

And that's okay.

You wanna be creative but you can't do it all.

You need to just pick and choose,

and then over time you'll learn what works

and how to map out your week.

And this is still something that I'm struggling with.

Like, it's not one recipe that you can master

in just a couple months.

It takes like years of experience

of finding who you are.

Creating lower thirds that represent your brand

and saving them as templates,

so that way all you have to do is drag it

from the panel, drop it in,

and with the new responsive design features

you can type it in and it will auto resize.

So that way you don't have to go in and be like,

oh, I need to make this rectangle bigger.

And that can take up five minutes every time.

Producer's Cut - When Calls the Facebook Live After Show - Hallmark Channel - Duration: 30:17.

(slow calming music)

- Hello Hearties and fans of When Calls the Heart

worldwide, I'm Executive Producer Brian Bird.

Welcome to our first ever post season Facebook Live

After Show right here on the set

of Hallmark Channel's Home and Family.

We're thrilled if you're joining us live but hope you'll

watch this whenever you can in the next few days.

I'm honored to be here with some of the most

important cast members of our show.

Lori Loughlin, Erin Krakow and Daniel Lissing.

- [All] Yay!

- Right, right here live and well.

Now obviously after last nights season five finale,

you have a lot of questions and we wanna

answer as many of them as we can.

We'll even be taking some from you

on Facebook during this session.

We'll also talk a little bit about the exciting season six

which is already in the planning stages, so let's dive in.

All right Lori, as executive producer

on When Calls the Heart why don't you take us through

this transition that we've just gone through.

- Well, season five was I think one of our best seasons

but certainly filled with a lot of emotion.

First and foremost, I want to say to all of our fans

that the three of us here are very good friends

and we all love each other and we support each other.

But we are actors and actors have contracts and sometimes

contracts expire and you have a choice to make.

You either renegotiate or you don't

and Dan has chosen to move on, we respect that.

No judgment, we love him, we wish him well,

he's still part of the Hallmark family

so I just wanna clear the air and just say that.

Nothing but love for Dan and the fans I know will

continue to support him as we will.

With Dan's departure led us to a tricky decision to make

which was what to do with the character of Jack Thornton.

So many scenarios and we read 'em all,

on Twitter and Facebook were floated.

When I tell you we thought of all of them too.

We talked about it and then we talked

about it again and we talked about it again.

Do we recast the role?

No, we can't recast the role.

How can you recast the role? (Jack laughs)

No, no and plus the chemistry that these two

have we just didn't feel like, the writers

didn't feel that that was possible.

Well do we send him off to the northern territories?

But we knew our time was limited with Dan and the actor

wouldn't be coming back so now if we sent him off

to the northern territories, now we have

Elizabeth sitting in Hope

Valley. - [Brian] Pining away,

- Just pining away - [Brian] In Hope Valley.

And waiting and not much story to tell.

Then we also floated the idea, the writers came up

with, well what if he before they got engaged,

what if he just came to her and said Mountie duties

call and I'm breaking up with you and I'm moving on.

Really when you thought about that, we were like

no, no there's no way,

There's no way Jack - [Brian] Not possible.

Thornton would ever leave Elizabeth Thatcher like that.

The only way he would leave her is in death.

That was a really hard decision for the

writers to make truly, truly it was.

But I want the fans to know that we in making

that decision, we really did take you into consideration

because then what we tried to do working backwards

from that was we tried to give you everything

that you asked for in this relationship, an engagement.

(slow calming music)

- I've waited so long for this.

- It's good to be home.

- [Lori] A wedding.

- It is my great pleasure to now pronounce you

husband and wife.

Jack, you may kiss your, bride.

(laughter)

- A baby on the way.

Yes the circumstances weren't ideal

but they were what they were, so we tried to make

the best of it and we tried to give our audience

what we thought they wanted.

- Good morning Ms. Thornton - Good morning Mr. Thornton

You're going to spoil me. - I'm gonna try.

- So that's how we came to that decision.

And like I said, it wasn't easy.

I do think that we had a phenomenal season.

The three of us watched together, last night.

I mean Dan Even turned to me last night

and he said, "this is one of the, this is like

the best episode we've ever done".

- [Brian] Hmm, it was.

- So, anyway, that's how we came to that decision.

It was not an easy one, we do love our fan base.

And, you know, we hope you understand,

and you'll continue to support us.

- We wouldn't even have this school house

if it wasn't for Mountie Jack.

- We'd still be doing school in the saloon.

(laughter)

- So we thought, what better way to remember Mountie Jack

- Than by doing this (heartfelt music)

- [Elizabeth] When someone like Jack

gives so much of themselves, they're never really gone.

Their in everything we see and touch and feel.

Thank you for this, I just love you all so much.

- [Brian] So Dan, we have millions of Hearties

breaking the internet right now.

- Really, I hadn't noticed.

(laughter)

- So what the heck just happened to Jack Thornton?

- Well I think Lori covered it really nicely.

You know, circumstances arose for me where I needed

to leave When Calls the Heart.

For reasons that are very personal to me.

And I went to Hallmark and they were nothing but supportive

of me, we spoke about it, they were nothing but supportive

of me, and, you know, our relationship, Hallmark,

our relationship, with the girls,

my relationship with the fans,

it's a very very positive one.

And I'm just very excited to see what the future brings.

- [Brian] That's awesome, that's awesome.

Well, you know, we've all been talking about this

for a long time.

- [Lori] We have.

- And it was the, the toughest secret

to keep in the history of the world right now.

- It was, it was.

- [Brian] But, you know, uh.

- I feel relieved. - I do to.

- Now that we can finally talk about it.

- [Brian] It is.

- But I know that Erin does too

because, Erin and I.

Look I kid you not, every day for the last year and a half

we've,

- We've talked about this so much

- We have talked about this in some capacity, because.

- We care.

- Yeah, we do care, and it was not an easy decision.

- [Erin] And it, Bryan sorry, if I may just jump in.

- [Brian] Please

- Since you're saying that we've been holding

onto this for a while and there is some relief,

I just want to say that there have been

so many comments from the Hearties.

Good, bad, ugly.

And many of the Hearties are coming to our defense,

saying "please don't attack our cast,

please don't attack the writers".

It's very sweet, but the truth is,

have whatever reaction you need to have,

get it out there, it's fine.

We've known about this for such a long time

and we've also had the privileged, let's call it,

of getting to act it out, and that's sort of

a cathardic process for us.

So, don't worry, have whatever feelings you need to have.

We've got a great season six coming your way,

and we hope you'll join us for that.

- [Brian] Right, and the, and just the episode

last night, I, I think grief counselors could use that

episode as a, a tool to help people.

Because you, Erin, you held the hands of the viewers

and took them through this experience with you.

And it was a very, very powerful experience.

- [Daniel] Could I just say that it, it,

Erin's performance last night was,

- [Brian] Unbelievable

- Unbelievable, and when we're sitting there watching it

and, Lori as well I mean, the arc of her character

through this last episode and, was amazing to watch.

And Lori was actually saying last night that,

if you don't win an award for this episode.

- I honestly think it should be nominated for an Emmy.

- You guys are, you're very generous, thank you.

But I'm also one small piece in the puzzle

of our amazing ensemble show, and,

yes Jack and Elizabeth...

- [Lori] But you carried, you carried.

- Well, okay, thank you very much.

- [Lori] You did

- That's the way I feel as well,

you know, I'm one small piece of a very, very big puzzle,

led by Erin, Lori, and I just want the fans to know that,

how much I love them and how much, how difficult

that this entire process has been,

and this decision has been.

And so, there's been a lot of support

around me with this and I just want to thank them.

But we'll get to that after.

- [Erin] We just hijacked your interview, sorry.

- That's okay, this is Facebook live.

We're going to take it as it comes and figure it out.

So talk about how you prepared for this last,

really the last two episodes of the season.

- Well, uh, you know I should have a great answer

prepared for this, but the truth is,

I was just sad that Dan was leaving.

That's the bottom line, we were all really sad about it.

And that's hard, I mean.

Dan has been, well so has Lori, but Dan in many ways

has been my partner in crime for five years

and, one of my greatest scene partners ever,

and I'm just really gonna miss him, um.

- We knew this tissue under the coffee table

was going to pay off.

(laughter)

- So there was that, and then also,

the truth behind this story is heartbreaking.

I mean I have, I've played a woman who has lost her

military fiance, her husband, a few times now.

Um, but, but this felt very special because this character,

these characters are all so close to me.

- [Jack's Voiceover] I need you to promise

me one thing Elizabeth.

You will open your heart to love again.

Know that I want nothing more than your happiness.

You are the perfect woman.

You showed me what it feels like to be truly loved.

For that, I am eternally grateful.

Yours forever, Jack.

(somber music)

- All you have to do is think about it and the tears fall.

- And having said that, that's not, uh,

we just want the fans to know that that's

not what we plan to continue doing in our show.

- [Erin] No!

- This was a unique situation.

We're not going to move forward and kill off characters.

- [Erin] Right.

- That's not what we want to do.

The very reason for ending the episode

on Elizabeth finding out that she's having a baby,

is to prepare, is symbolic of season six.

And, it's a rebirth and starting over.

And it's about community, and it's about, you know,

forging ahead, and finding the joy again in life.

So we're not gonna be walking around next season mourning.

Of course we will talk about the Jack character,

we will celebrate the birth of the baby,

and we have other great stories to tell.

But we just want everyone to know that, you know,

we're getting back to business

and hopefully the way that you guys like it.

- You know there are happy endings, right.

Usually one When Calls the Heart, and I can't think

of a happier ending than what we saw last night,

because you went through this incredible

journey of getting through the grief,

or at least partially through the grief process,

and then all the sudden there's a baby on the way.

- Who knew.

- There's a little Jack, or a little Jackquelin on the way.

(laughter)

- That's right.

- And Jack Thornton's legacy will be alive

and will valley forever, 'cause the school's named

after him too. - That's true

- Of course, yes. - [Brian] That's right.

Well Dan and Erins questions for you.

Favorite memories of working together on the show.

- Oh - Uh there have been so many.

(laughter)

Look, you know, when you're lucky enough to have

a work partner like Erin, and they become one of your best

friends in the world, and you get to spend, you know,

a good portion of your year with them, day in and day out,

doing what you love doing, it's, it's a no brainer.

It's pretty special, so, we've got so many great memories.

And I think that the whole journey that we've taken

together as actors and as friends has really,

it's something that I will hold

in my heart forever, forever.

So, I mean the best, she said I was one of

the best scene partners she's ever had.

- Lori is sitting right next to me.

- Hey, hey, hey! (laughter)

- She is the best scene partner I've ever had.

Oh hey Erin, wait I thought that you meant, like,

romantic, lead opposite man scene part.

- Oh I didn't specify but.

- I think that Lori's in a different category.

- You know what, yes

- Lori's in a category of her own.

- You guys have a very special chemistry,

and it's been a joy to watch, truly it really has been.

- This is, you are, I mean uh. - I know.

- [Brian] Erin how about you.

- How am I supposed to top that?

I mean, that was a great answer.

Uh, I did really like shooting the wedding though.

That very special, and in many ways it felt

like a gift to the Hearties that we could give them that,

but also so lovely for all of us.

We've been rooting for this love story

for a long time now and it was nice to get to seal the deal.

I don't know, what do you, I mean.

- Yeah, but I agree.

- [Brian] Some people might say consummate the wedding.

(laughter)

- We were waiting for the wedding, as just as and

looking forward to, just as much as the fans were, truly.

- [Brian] That's right, that's right.

Well you know, we took a cue from Downton Abbey

in trying to figure out how to make this transition,

and what the creators of Downton Abbey did on their show,

when Dan Steven's left the show after the third season,

is they said, we have to leave the, Marry and Matthew,

the characters on that show,

in the best possible place ever,

before we go through this catharsis, right?

And this ending of this one character.

And, what better place could we have left the two of you,

than with that epic wedding, right?

And so, I know some of the fans are saying,

how could you give us a wedding and then yank it all away

just five episodes later, but honestly, on Downton Abbey,

they lost their child, or they gave birth to their child

and then Matthew passed away in a car accident,

literally within seconds of that.

So this is sometimes how you have

to get through these catharses.

- [Lori] Right

- Right and as we were saying before,

like with every death comes rebirth.

And I feel like in season six, there,

well there's gonna be the birth

of Jack and Elizabeth's child.

And I think Hope Valley will have a rebirth as well.

- That's right.

The people of Hope Valley are too special to me.

I couldn't leave, this is where I belong, same as you.

No matter what happens, I'm staying right where I am.

And that's a promise.

- [Brian] So Dan, can you sum up

what it's been like to be on the show of five season?

- See, it just brings a smile to my face thinking about it.

You know, in all honesty, it's been the honor of my career

to play Jack, it's been the honor of my career

to work with these two amazing women,

who I consider some of my best friends in the world.

I love these two.

And Hallmark has been, just amazing and I hope that

we're able to, I hope that we can work together again,

with Hallmark, I really do hope for that.

And I'll be pushing for it, so we'll see what happens but.

- And that's the other thing too, Dan is still a part

of the Hallmark family, he's not going anywhere.

So, you know, um.

- So, to play Jack Thornton, what a tremendous character

to play for five season on an American television show.

You know when I came out to the United States as, like a

a guy that was playing music in bars in Sydney,

to think that I would play a character like Jack

on an American television show is, like, well, beyond me.

Beyond anything I could have ever imagined, really.

And so, it's been for me, an amazing learning

experience in life, it's really highlighted what's

important to me in life and in work life.

And I've made some relationships through this show

that I will hold with me for the rest of my life.

So, and another thing, you know when you're on a television

show, you have a fan base, and I.

Well, Hearties, I know it's hard for you right now,

it's very hard for me as well, but I got to say, like,

never did I imagine that I would, personally.

And I know the girls feel the same way.

That I would personally have a fan base,

(laughter) at all.

And the fact that you've supported me through this journey,

playing Jack Thornton, means the world to me.

And I will never take that for granted

and I will continue to do my best for you all.

And, I just, I'm just so grateful to have played Jack.

I'm so grateful.

- Yeah, and we just want to thank the fans, you know,

in advance for all the support they have given us.

And we want to thank Hallmark.

And again, we want to say to all the fans,

please don't be angry with the network or the writers

it's really important.

Like Dan said, he went to them, everyone was very gracious.

They said, you know what, we understand we,

you want to move on, we gotcha.

And we've all been super supportive of that.

And we hope the fans will continue to support us

because we are a community,

and you're a part of our community, and Hope Valley

is a community, and the Hearties are a community

and communities come together and they lift each other up.

And I hope you will continue to do that for us,

and we will try to do that for you.

- What are you smiling at?

- We're a part of a community that cares.

- [Brian] You know, the Hearties, the Hearties

are the most loyal, compassionate fan base, I think,

of any television show ever.

- Yes.

- [Brian] Now they don't put on foil hats

and go to Star Trek conventions and try to become aliens,

but they love the show so much.

(laughter) - That's okay too

- Because, yes, that's okay too, that's okay.

But it's, this show has become so important to them

and I think that's why they feel so deeply about it.

- [Lori] I know - Right

- So, when something strikes you so deeply

and becomse a family member

- I know.

- Well, family members can sometimes,

you can be angry with them, right?

Sometimes you can love them unconditionally.

Sometimes you can be, let them go

and do what they want to do and give them the freedom

that they need to do, sometimes you do all those things

at once with your own family members.

And so I thin that it's a tribute

to the work that you all have done.

- And Hallmark writing and putting the show together,

and these characters, and then the casting.

Because you know, I think that the chemistry with all of us,

the writing, Hallmark putting this show out to these fans.

It's a testament to the work that everyone has done

behind the scenes to bring these characters to life

and to have built that, this, you know,

this amazing fan base called the Hearties.

- And I also think, you know, we read a lot on Twitter

where people were upset, and understandably so,

and like Erin said, they haven't had that moment to grieve

and process like we have. - Right.

- So, I think, you know initially I was kind of

not, I knew they would be upset,

but I really tried to say okay, you know.

And I remembered when I was a child,

I used to watch, 'cause I was so crazy,

I used to watch Lassie, well anyone who knows me

knows I'm an animal lover, but.

I remember at one point, because Lassie was always

in some kind of trouble, I would be so distraught, right.

You were talking about how, like,

a show means so much to you.

And I remember my dad saying at one point, you know,

you're gonna have to like get a grip or you're

not gonna be able to watch Lassie anymore.

(laughter)

But I mean, 'cause you, and I do appreciate

that the fans have that much emotionally invested

into the show, we really do appreciate that

because we have that much

emotionally invested into the show.

- Right - Right

- [Brian] That's right, and you know,

some of the, some of the, best TV shows in all of history

that are in sort of the category of When Calls the Heart

like Little House on the Prairie, that show dealt

with life and death issues a lot, right.

That wasn't just a onetime thing for them.

They had multiple things like that.

- And I think that's, when you do a series,

that is what happens.

It's a bit more of a journey versus

a two hour movie with a happy ending, right.

So, we are intending to have a happy ending,

but when you, when you're do a series you do have to have.

And again we're not going to kill off

any main characters again, but, I think you do have to have

the highs and the lows, I mean that's drama, so.

- And while we're acknowledging Hallmark channel.

I mean they really, they were very kind to us

by letting us tell this story in a way that felt

the most truthful for these characters

and this world that we've created.

I know it was a slight departure

from the tone of most things on Hallmark channel

and we were asking people to really take that ride with us.

But I'm so glad that they did, and as Lori said,

there's such a bright future in Hope Valley,

and we don't plan on continuing

to tell these kinds of stories.

- [Elizabeth] Ladies - We made this for you.

- All of us worked on a section.

- It's so beautiful

- We want you to know you're always wrapped in love.

- You're our family Elizabeth.

- You're my family too, and that is such a blessing.

- [Brian] So, Lori and Erin, this ones for you together.

Now that one chapter is closing of One Calls the Heart,

and we're opening up a new chapter starting,

turning the page and starting to write on a new page.

What is the Hearties community mean to you going forward?

- [Lori] Well, like Dan said like you said Brian,

we talk about it all the time,

like what an incredible fan base they are.

And I've been in the business for a really long time,

I've never come across a fan base like the Hearties.

And I've had fans through out my career,

but not quite like this, I mean.

Their devotion, their passion, it's uh,

I've never experienced anything like it.

So, that's why I think, when you know.

I finally just stopped reading comments last night

because the truth is...

- At what time?

- At two, at two in the morning I stopped finally.

At two am I stopped like.

But because, it was hard for us too.

We don't want to upset anyone or hurt anyone.

Like we care about them

and we don't want anyone to be upset.

And yes we knew people were going to be upset

and I think, you know, no matter how you slice it,

whatever story we might have told, I think on some level,

somebody would've been unhappy.

- [Brian] That's right.

And I think it's just in general

because a character is leaving the show.

So, and I think, you know people, change is hard.

Sometimes change is hard, so.

But the Hearties mean everything to us, truly.

- They are the show.

- [Brian] And you feel the same?

- I do, I feel the same.

And I feel so grateful and honored

that the Hearties have welcomed us into their living rooms,

into their bedrooms, into their classrooms.

Wherever their stealing a peak at When Calls the Heart.

And they've really made us feel like

important members of their family.

And, I don't know, the Hearties kind of feel like an

extended family for us as well.

- And in return we've tried

to make ourselves accessible to them too, you know.

- Have we missed a, a night,

we're always tweeting with them.

- You know, we, every Sunday night Erin and I get together

and we watch the show and we Tweet

and we interact with the fans, and, so.

You know, because they are important to us.

- [Brian] That's right.

So, you know, we definitely want, you know,

interact and have let them have access to us too.

- Yeah and it feels, I think we all feel this,

all of us, finally we can talk about this.

- Uh, I'm so relieved

- Oh it feels so good to talk about it.

We've been sitting on this, it's just, it's felt.

- I hate secrets.

- It was like a heavy burden.

It kind of felt like a heavy thing to carry round.

- Yes - Right

- It really did, so.

- [Brian] Right, and we all, sort of all of us

have gone through the same

sort of grieving process that the fans are now.

We've just had a longer period of time,

but we all have gone through those

stages of grief about this

- [Erin] Oh yeah.

- This change, but I think we're all at a great place now.

At least on this side.

We hope the Hearties will get there as well.

- Yeah

- [Brian] So Dan, thinking about the Hearties,

if you could say anything to them,

and you've probably already said this but,

if there's anything else you want to say to them

right now that would be great.

- So I think, I think I covered a lot of

how I feel about you guys.

When I was talking about you before,

and how grateful I am for you all.

I guess I just want to say it's going to be alright.

(laughter)

Don't worry, it's all good.

Keep watching the show, Hallmark is awesome,

When Calls the Heart is awesome.

- Thanks Dan - Thank you Dan

- That's it, you know, yeah, it's going to be okay.

- [Brian] And for all the wonderful things, Dan,

that you're going to do in your career going forward.

We know that you're gonna have a lot of success doing that.

And, Hearties, be watching for this guy, right.

- [Lori] Oh yeah, very.

Yes, you are very wonderful actor and you've, you've

- [Brian] Follow him to whatever the next thing is

because he's gonna love having you there

and he'll keep talking to you by the way too.

- Oh 100%, 100%

- [Brian] So Erin, we're gonna end on this question.

- Oh no, the pressures on, what is it?

- [Brian] Speaking of the baby bump

that you laid on us there last night.

- [Erin] There's no bump yet

- [Brian] No bump, well not last night but there,

there probably will be in the next few months.

- Probably will be.

- Tell us, boy or girl, what do you want?

- Oh no, oh this is so bad, Brian.

- That's a tricky one.

- I know what I want

- I mean I know what I want.

- Dan you don't get to weigh in on this.

(laughter) Please!

- [Brian] He already weighed in.

- I already did (laughter)

- Not real life

- Okay, am I allowed to answer this?

Am I allowed to answer this question?

- Why not put out what you want.

- [Brian] Well, just what you want, what you would like,

it doesn't mean it's gonna happen for ya.

- No, no, no, no.

- [Erin] Okay here's my answer.

I have assured the Hearties, I have assured the Hearties

on Social Media that I'm not reading a script today,

this is all from my heart, but from my heart

I cannot give you an answer other than to say,

I would be so happy with a boy or a girl for Elizabeth.

- [Lori] Yay! (Lori clapping)

And so would we, and so would our Hope Valley community.

- It's a blessing either way.

- Elizabeth, you're gonna have a baby.

(uplifting music)

- We were talking before the show

about what if it's a little Jaquoline

and she's a tomboy and would if twenty years from now

she joins the Mounties, how cool would that be right?

- Oooo, goodness.

- There's drama!

- See, so many stories to tell, so many stories left.

- [Brian] Keep it in the family, keep it in the family.

Well, thank you Hearties for joining us,

and all the fans of One Calls the Heart.

We're gonna, we have to bring this to a close

'cause, 'cause Facebook, we're over time

on our limit with Facebook, so.

- [Erin] Oh my - [Lori] Oh my goodness

- [Brian] Thank you so much for being with us

and for joining us for the Facebook live after show.

We've never done this before.

You know, maybe we'll even do this again sometime,

this is kind of.

- [Erin] That would be fun - [Lori] That would be lovely

- [Brian] But from the bottom of our hearts,

from the bottom of our hearts Hearties,

we want you to know that we love you,

you are the reason for the success of When Calls the Heart.

I hope you know that, we hope you know that.

And we don't take that for granted.

We all want to wish Dan, our friend Dan, godspeed on all

the exciting things coming for him in the future,

and we know we will be seeing lots of him on TV

and films in the days ahead.

It's been a joy and a blessing to work with you Dan,

it just really has.

And we hope these last five seasons

have been meaningful for you too.

Hope Valley has grown to be a place where,

where you all would like to visit as much as possible.

I think you all know that, right?

We also know that, you've been on

an emotional roller coaster these last, this last season.

And especially last few weeks, and we're closing one chapter

and starting a whole new chapter of hope,

faith, love, family, and community.

We trust you will want to continue that journey with us.

The plans for season six are exciting and epic,

and they're already underway.

Don't forget to watch Lori, Erin, and Dan

on the Home and Family show tomorrow, April 24th.

So until we meet again on the streets of Hope Valley,

very soon, goodbye and God bless.

- Thank you papa Hearty.

- Oh okay (laughter)

(funky music)

- So inside this car we had actually three good quality

gauges but the problem is that they're,

they're really old.

So we want to get something you know new and accurate

in there.

So what I'm going to do here I'm going to get the gauge

pod in place because I need this to be there so I know

exactly where my cover plate needs to go because this is

right where the gauges are going which'll be perfect

because gauges gauges, all business right here.

(funky music)

Hey one last white pencil.

Probably need a new one but I've been borrowing all my

kids' school supplies for this.

(drill whirring) (funky music)

Whoa, that's why you put these things in a vice kids.

No harm no foul.

Luckily it's only plastic.

(funky music) (drill whirring)

No time for vices.

So while we're putting in these new gauges we wanted the

mounting bracket for it to look like it belonged in

the car so we're using some plastic that actually has

this very similar grain to what the dashboard looks like

and I think will look really nice in the interior.

Yeah.

If you didn't know any better you might think that this

was you know original to the car.

Now the plate sitting behind this is completely flat

which actually made it look way cleaner.

(funky music)

One kind of really cool thing about this cluster is it has

really super rare optional tachometer that you can get

through wat they would call Nissan Sports Corner

back in the day.

This is something that was offered during the 70s

as an optional upgrade.

Really really rare part and it's just one of those you know

little pieces that really make this particular car unique.

This is where the factory clock goes.

In the gauge cluster portion of it somebody has removed

that, that beautiful factory clock and then put in the

vacuum gauge so that's another part we'll be taking out

and trying to get back to stock.

I just so happen to have a spare cluster here that I'm

using for parts so we're going to pull out the clock from

this one, get it back in there.

The clock is an important part of this build partially

because we want to have it be original inside the car.

Fine looking cluster man.

Yeah looks good.

Now he gets to enjoy.

- I still love that tach.

The tick tick tick tick. - Constantly.

We update the lighting in here to be LEDs like what we've

got in the gauges themselves we'd have a little bit more

of a uniform lighting between the two.

Going to be all new territory here but we'll see what they

look like when we get the battery for the cluster in.

Got a little bit of cleanup to do here obvioulsy

but it's a fine looking cluster.

Get it cleaned up and get into the car.

(dramatic music) (ratchets clanking)
