H THE

OTHER CAR.

NOW TO OUR STATE OF ADDICTION

COVERAGE.

TRAFFIC SAFETY AGENCIES ARE

TRYING TO GET THE WORD OUT ABOUT

THE DANGERS OF PRESCRIPTION DRUG

USE BEHIND THE WHEEL.

THIS IS IN A LARGE LIGHT BECAUSE

OF THE TIGER WOODS CASE.

ACTION NEWS REPORTER BIANCA

BELTRAN JOINS US LIVE WITH THE

DETAIL

THIS IS SOMETHING THEY ARE VERY

CONCERNED ABOUT.

BIANCA: IT IS.

AND A NATIONAL CASE IS BRINGING

ATTENTION TO IT.

A RECENT STUDY FOUND THE NUMBER

OF DRIVERS TESTED POSITIVE FOR

PRESCRIPTION DRUGS IS ON THE

RISE, WITH AS MANY AS 20% OF

DRIVERS WITH MEDICATIONS IN

THEIR SYSTEM.

BUT UNLIKE ALCOHOL, IT'S A

PROBLEM WITH NO CLEAR CUT RULES

FOR IMPAIRMENT.

THE MESSAGE IS CLEAR DRINKING

, AND DRIVING IS ILLEGAL AND

DEADLY.

BUT OFFICERS ARE FINDING DRIVERS

DON'T TAKE PRESCRIBED DRUGS AS

SERIOUSLY.

>> A LOT OF PEOPLE DON'T EVEN

REALIZE THAT YOUR PRESCRIPTION

MEDICATIONS CAN CAUSE

IMPAIRMENT.

SOMETHING THAT IS TOTALLY LEGAL

AND LEGALLY PRESCRIBED TO YO

, IF TAKEN AND THEN YOU GO

DRIVE, CAN DEFINITELY CAUSE

IMPAIRMENT.

ESPECIALLY PAIN MEDICATIONS,

ANYTHING THAT CAUSES DROWSINESS.

BIANCA: THE CHALLENGE FOR LAW

ENFORCEMENT IS THAT MEDICATIONS

AFFECT EACH PERSON DIFFERENTLY.

AND THERE ISN'T A LEGAL

THRESHOLD FOR THEM LIKE BLOOD

ALCOHOL CONTENT.

HEAVY DUTY PAINKILLERS CAN SLOW

MOTOR SKILLS AND EVEN ALLERGY

MEDICINE CAN CAUSE DROWSINESS.

IN AN EFFORT TO ADDRESS THE

GROWING PROBLEM, OFFICERS ARE

RECEIVING SPECIAL TRAINING TO

SPOT SIGNS OF DRUG USE.

>> THEY ARE CALLED OUR DRUG

RECOGNITION EXPERTS, SO THEY

WILL COME OUT AND DO AN

EVALUATION IN ADDITION TO OUR

ROADSIDE EVALUATION.

AND THEN THEY WILL MAKE THE

DETERMINATION OF WHAT DRUG THEY

FEEL THE PERSON IS UNDER THE

INFLUENCE OF.

BIANCA: IF THEY ARE, THE CASE I

TREATED LIKE A DUI WITH ALCOHOL

WITH SEVERE PENALTIES.

, OFFICER DRAKE HOPES PEOPLE

WILL BECOME AS CAUTIOUS WITH

DRUGS AS THEY ARE WITH DRINKING.

>> GIVE YOURSELF A COUPLE DAYS

TO ADJUST TO A NEW MEDICATION.

IF YOU TAKE IT, TAKE IT AT HOME

WHERE YOU DON'T HAVE TO DRIVE.

CLEAR YOUR SCHEDULE AND SEE HOW

YOU FEEL.

MAKE SURE YOU ARE AWARE OF THOSE

SIDE EFFECTS.

ALSO, DON'T COMBINE YOUR

MEDICATION WITH ANY AMOUNT O

ALCOHOL, BECAUSE IT CAN

INTENSIFY THE EFFECTS AND YOU

MIGHT NOT EVEN REALIZE IT.

BIANCA: IN ADDITION TO

IDENTIFYING DRIVERS UNDER THE

INFLUENCE OF PRESCRIPTION DRUGS,

THOSE EXPERTS WILL BE KEY WHEN

IT COMES TO CASES WHERE SOMEONE

IS INJURED OR KILLED IN A CRAS

DAN: THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

ACCORDING TO CHP, IN THE SANTA

CRUZ AREA THERE WERE 16 ARRESTS

FOR DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE

THIS MEMORIAL WEEKEND, UP ONE

FROM THE PREVIOUS YEAR.

How can I tell if I have Atrial Fibrillation or an Arrhythmia? - Duration: 3:08.

Patients come to me all the time and

they have palpitations. They feel their

heart beating. Most of these people

actually it's their own rate going fast

at times. And it's what I call the

princess and the pea syndrome. Some

people feel everything and you can put

as many mattresses as you want on top of

that pea and they still feel it. And that's

very unfortunate. Whereas other people

can be in almost life-threatening

rhythms and they don't feel anything. So

the sensation of an arrhythmia is very

difficult to pinpoint even for a doctor.

You need proof. So if you're having a

feeling of palpitations, it's a very

simple way to figure it out. We just give

you a monitor to wear for a given period

of time and we correlate your symptoms

with the electrocardiographic

representation. We can even use phone

apps now to do it, and if your symptoms

turn out to be atrial fibrillation then

we have to go down that path. This is not

to be disparaging to any doctor who

listens for 15 seconds on a patient's

chest but they haven't figured it out.

It's just like an ECG. An ECG is 12 to 15

seconds of your life. So you come and

tell me, "I have palpitations," we do an

electrocardiogram, I listen to you, I

don't hear anything abnormal, I don't see

anything so for maybe 30 seconds of your

life I've evaluated you. That's totally

inappropriate to make a decision I need

to correlate your symptom with the

electrocardiogram. So no, if your doctor

doesn't have the either desire or the

knowledge to take it to the next step,

you should probably see a cardiologist

or an electrophysiologist- they're going

to give you a monitor and they're going

to at least make the correlation. You

need documentation of the cause of your

palpitations. It might be atrial

fibrillation it might be your own rhythm,

it might simply be premature beats. The

important thing is you need a diagnosis.

it's easy to get, and there's no reason

why someone shouldn't do it for you. The

more difficult problem is people who may

be at risk for atrial fib who have no

symptoms but still are at risk for

stroke if they get it. And that's a very

difficult group of folks that I'm

approaching now in a little different

way. So if I think somebody has a high

stroke risk and they have a number of

things about their medical history that

suggests they're at a relatively high

risk for atrial fibrillation I've even

done some very long-term monitoring in

those people. So if you have symptoms, it's

straightforward: put a monitor on, figure

it out, and see where you're going. If you

have no symptoms, but let's say you've

had relatives who've had afib, you've had

somebody who's had a stroke, and you're just

concerned, "What if I'm next? And how am I

going to figure that out?" Then I think

depending on how high your risks are for

a stroke, you can have that discussion.

Can We Talk About How Much Drinking The Queen Elizabeth Does? - Duration: 2:06.

Here are some things we know about Queen Elizabeth II, the reigning monarch of England: She wont

die as long as Charles is in line for the throne, she looks damn good wearing a hoodie

and driving a range rover, and she likes to get hella drunk during the day.

This last fact comes to us via a new report by Esquire UK, which has detailed the queens

drinking for the rest of us who arent allowed to get sloshed at work around 11:30 AM.

Before getting into this breakdown, weve got to get something straight: No one here

is judging the queen.

Instead, we are all very impressed by how much she can drink, and if it was all good

with our bosses, we would also all spend our days sippin on gin & juice while petting

our fat, adorable, in bred corgis and snubbing Camilla Parker Bowles for reasons that are

surely valid if not quite understood.

Now that weve got that cleared up, heres what she drinks on a daily basis via PopSugar:

The queen drinks so much around 42 drinks per week that she meets the criteria for being

diagnosed as a binge drinker in the UK.

But lets be real, if you were the queen, wouldnt you get drunk all the time, too?

Not only is drinking fun. even Charles starts being fun after youve had a few but its

probably the only thing that gets you through the day when youre 90 years old, grumpy

as hell, and still have to go to horse races and hospital openings when all you want to

do is stay home and point out mistakes on Downton Abbey, which is a thing the queen

reportedly does.

Wonder how she feels about The Crown.

Doesnt matter, everythings good when youre drunk and eating pizza and kebabs.

(Weve decided thats what she eats and were sticking to it.)

Emre Can overhead kick takes top spot in Liverpools best 10 goals of the season - Duration: 2:23.

Emre Can overhead kick takes top spot in Liverpool's best 10 goals of the season

There are no surprises over the winner of Liverpool's goal of the season, but the rest of the picks serve as reminders of the Reds' attacking prowess too.

Emre Can's stunning overhead kick to see off Watford near the end of the season was a worthy winner of the Premier League's goal of the season competition, so of course it has also taken top spot in Liverpool's ranks too.

But with 78 goals scored in the league play alone, and a further 14 in the domestic cups, there was plenty to choose from for the best of the rest, as the above video showcases.

Gini Wijnaldum's final-day strike at the end of a flowing move gatecrashed the top 10, notable as much for the sweetness of his finish as for the importance of the goal, which set the Reds en-route to three points and the Champions League.

Nobody will be surprised that the Reds' Brazilian attackers feature prominently, and Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino brought up the next two with well-taken goals against West Brom and Swansea respectively.

Sadio Mane's devastating debut goal to sink Arsenal came in at No. 7, while Coutinho's free-kick from earlier in the same match was one spot higher.

A belting top-corner strike from captain Jordan Henderson at Stamford Bridge, Can's low bullet effort against Burnley and Firmino's half-volley from distance at Stoke all took their place in the top five.

The runner-up spot went to Coutinho, with his solo goal in the derby a real high point in his season—but there was no catching Can for his acrobatics at Vicarage Road.

Is Your Pineal Gland Overstimulated Here's What You Can Do To - Duration: 3:54.

Is Your Pineal Gland Overstimulated?

Heres What You Can Do To Ease The Symptoms!

Walking the path of spirituality will require a lot of work on your intuition and its

development.

Staying connected with our intuition helps us make better decisions and keeps us in sync

with the purpose we have on this planet.

Unfortunately, when trying to develop their third Eye, many people make a common mistake.

They over-stimulate their intuitive center -the pineal gland and dont allow a

proper energy flow.

Its very important to pay the same amount of attention to all your chakras, if you practice

too many psychic developing exercises, you risk over-stimulating your chakras, but mostly

the third eye.

The unbalanced energy flow in your body can manifest in many ways, so in order to help

you identify them, we give you the four most frequent and easy-to-spot symptoms of an overstimulated

Pineal Gland:

Experiencing difficulty to focus and concentrate.

Lightheadedness, headaches and dizziness Increased eye pressure, sensitivity to light

and blurred vision.

Difficulty to fall and stay asleep Once you have determined that the discomfort

is caused by overstimulation of your Pineal Gland, you can take some of the following

steps to ease the symptoms:

Rubbing some peppermint, sandalwood, patchouli, chamomile or blue tansy on your sixth chakra

will give you some relief.

Use a hat, scarf or a bindi to cover your third eye.

Avoid fluoride, by any cost!

Ground your energy by going out in nature barefoot or hug a tree.

Schedule a Reiki session.

Concentrate on your other energy centers by doing yoga or breathing exercises.

It will help the energy circulate through your body.

Avoid crowded places for some time.

Use crystals like tigers eye, amethyst or hematite to balance out the energy.

Best is to place them directly on your sixth chakra.

We are all, more or less, psychically gifted and we definitely need to work on developing

our talents.

But there is really no need to rush.

We have our entire life in front of us, and its much better to take our time and enjoy

the process instead of rushing and overwhelming ourselves and our bodies.

Have patience, it always pays off.

Judo: "It gives me confidence that I can use in everyday life." - Duration: 3:43.

My name is Rachel Kim and I'm 13 years old.

There's a beach here and I like to run in the sand, swim, and surf.

I also like to sing in my choir, play basketball, and practicing judo.

I have respect for the sport of judo.

I learn leadership skills.

I like the competition and I also have confidence that I can use in everyday life.

One, two.

Use this--come in, squat, lift him up put him back down.

Judo has been really positive in both Kyle and Rachel's life.

I initially enrolled them so that they could be able to defend themselves if they were

ever bullied or anything like that, but I realized that it has a lot more benefits,

including self confidence, keeping them fit.

It really helps them with the other sports and activities that they do and recently it

has helped them with leadership skills.

I like teaching younger students.

It's a very fun class and especially when you know a new self defense technique and

you'll be amazed at what you can do.

And I like teaching the little kids because it's always fun to see their smile when they

get something right.

And being in the judo competition team has also taught them to be self-reliant and to

learn that you've got to do your best and never give up.

Get your feet in.

One two. One. Oh, good good good.

Oohh.

Jujitsu is called "the gentle art".

It's over about over 1000 years old.

Judo is about 125 years old and it's called "gentle way".

You see kids who can learn to coordinate their minds better.

They understand things.

They see things.

They learn to focus in school, at home.

You learn to control yourself. Therefore, you don't have to control others.

Sensei Jim has been doing this for 50 years.

It's amazing.

Jim is really great at just character building.

And teaching them just discipline, teaching them manners.

He teaches a lot about respect.

He always encourages me, which gives me the confidence not to give up.

I see the changes I see in kids and adults in how they see themselves.

They find that they have confidence that they have built themselves.

Nobody else gave it to them.

Then they feel very proud of themselves and what they've accomplished.

I'm so grateful that we have the Santa Monica YMCA here because it allows the kids to have

fun.

They're learning how to be good young men and good young women and that carries over

both at school and at home.

It is a challenge, but once you get the hang of it, it is a really fun class and a really

fun sport to play.

TWO TEASPOONS OF THIS ANCIENT REMEDY A DAY AND YOU CAN FORGET ABOUT COLITIS, GASTRITIS, ULCERS, CONS - Duration: 2:03.

OUR WEBSITE : http://justhealthrelated.com/

Aloe Vera, lemon and honey are 3 powerful natural ingredients which have great benefits

for our health. Lemon is a natural antioxidant that can clean our body of toxins, while Aloe

is considered as one of the most beneficial plants for our health. Honey is a nectar from

the gods that has numerous health benefits and can significantly improve our overall

health. Although each of the ingredients is powerful on its own, their effects are doubled

when they are combined. Here are the main health benefits of the mixture

Treats colitis, gastritis and ulcers; Reduces tumor growth;

Reduces inflammation; Regulates your blood sugar levels, as well

as your cholesterol and triglycerides; Keeps your blood pressure steady;

Detoxifies the body; Prevents kidney stones;

Reduces stress; Accelerates the healing of wounds;

Regenerates our cells; Promotes health bowel movements.

Besides these benefits, the mixture will boost your hair growth and improve your eyesight.

Here's how to prepare it:

INGREDIENTS

¼ cup of organic honey 2 Aloe Vera leaves

2 lemons PREPARATION

Clean the stalks from the Aloe leaves well and cut them from the sides, then squeeze

out the gel and put it in a blender. Next, add the chopped lemons and honey and mix well,

then strain the mixture and pour it in a glass bottle. Keep the bottle in the fridge.

Take a teaspoon of the remedy in the morning and again in the afternoon after your meals,

and repeat the process for a week. Take a 7-day break afterwards, then repeat the process

again if needed. If the taste is too strong for you, you can dilute the mixture with a

bit of water. Just make sure to keep it in a glass jar or bottle in the fridge for up

to a month.

YOU CAN DO IT - Motivational Speech Video - TD Jakes Motivation - Duration: 11:30.

The most powerful tool that you have

right now in your life, in your body is

your mind.

That's why the enemy fights you in

your mind. The devil doesn't have to tie you

up for you to be bound, he just has to tie up

your head with stress, with worry, with

aggravation, with low self-esteem, with pettiness, with

anger, with hostility, with

rebellion and he can make you

physically sick because your mind is sick.

Lay your hands on your head and say give me

a new mind. Give me a new mind means give

me a new perspective. Give me a new

perspective, give me a new way of looking

at my situation. Give me a new way of

looking at my circumstances. Get my mind

ready for this year because when I get

this year there's going to be blessings

there's going to be miracles, there's

going to be opportunities

oh yes there's going to be some

struggles, there's gonna be some challenges, there's gonna

be some tests, but even the struggles

are an opportunity for me to show off the

victory if my mind can handle the

change.

If you can take it, you can make it.

You can take it. You can make it. Alright

you train, you fight way harder than

those other guys and you win. You get

out from under them.

You can take it. You can make it. You

can do this. You just gotta believe you can.

There's some things I'm not taking with

me in the new year.

Everything that's been flexible and

everything that's not ready and

everything that's backwards and everything

that's negative and everything that's

condescending and everything that's carnal

and everything that's holding me back. I

refuse to take it over into another

year and waste another new year with an

old mind.

Don't shape yourself around the comings

and goings of this world.

Don't shape your opinions and your

attitudes around circumstances that you cannot

change.

If you go into another year and waste

another year with the old mentality while somebody's in the hospital

begging God for the opportunity

that you have right now

you better step into this moment.

As soon as you decide to stop looking for answers in

other people and miracles somewhere down the yellow brick road and

click the heels of your mind you could

have been free years ago.

Soon as you get your mind out, you can get

your money out, you can get your family out,

you get your job out, you get your career out,

you can get your health out, you can get your

prosperity out. If you can get your mind

out no devil in hell, no weapon for him to get you,

no enemy that hates you, no witch that hexes you can stop you from being free.

If you can get your mind out, grab

yourself by the hand and say, we're coming out of this!

Tell them i'm coming out headfirst.

I will not face a giant without you. I

will not make a major decision without

prayer. I will not bring somebody into my

life just cause they please me. I'll submit

myself, my destiny, my future over to you.

You are my foundation, you are my rock

you are my fortress, you are my strength

you are my defense without you I can

do nothing. You are the subscriber of every

dream I have ever dreamed in my life and

I will take no proposal you don't want me to

have and I will accept no

friend you don't want me to have. You're

my rock! You owe him a level of commitment.

You owe him a level of commitment. It's wrong for

you to think that you're going to give

an offering and God's going to bless a

business you ain't committed to. Bless a

marriage you ain't committed to. Bless

you in school and you won't study. Bless

you as a saint of God and you won't walk

like a saint of God. Who do you think God

is? Somebody playing in Vegas?

God is not hitting a slot machine. God is

a guaranteed definite I am the mighty God,

assured blessing. He told Abraham I swear

I'm gonna bless you. Ain't no chance, ain't no doubt, ain't no

joke about it, if I told you I was gonna

bless you, I will open up the window.

They wonder why I thought i'd be

further than I am and they, let me tell you

why you are not further. It is not

the devil

it is not witches, it is not demons, and

it's sure not haters. You are not any

further than where you are right now because you

have never thrown your whole self at anything

in your life. You take a half committed

man and a half committed trifling woman

and put them together and they'll have some

half

trifling kids and the whole house will be half committed

because children will be what they see.

Stop getting frustrated with your kids, they're a reflection of you!

Some commitment is to family and

it's a very important commitment. Through

the storm and the rain and the heartache

and the pain and the disappointment, you

have to believe in the we and the us and

not the me and the you or you're not

gonna make it. It's a commitment. It's not

a feeling. You got to come home when you

in love and you got to come home when

you not in love or you not gonna make

it, and stay there til the love comes

back. It's a commitment. Y'all don't want to

hear real truth. You want to hear

fairy-tale, Hollywood, shake and bake stuff

but in reality it's a commitment.

Commitment to your dream. You cannot get

people to believe in your dream until

you believe in it yourself. Stop asking

people to invest in things where you

have no investment. Stop asking people to

deliver something to you where you're

not willing to go to the wire for

yourself.

If you don't learn to give like you

learn to get, every area that there is

not reciprocity, it will die. Reciprocity.

What do you give back for what you get?

If you're not committed you're not gonna

make it. Even the ones with the

personalities you don't like, you have to

be committed through the storm and the

rain and the heartache and the pain and

the disappointment you have to believe

in the we and the us and not the me and

the you or you're not gonna make it.

It's a commitment. It's not a feeling.

Until you have had the taste of

finishing you will not respect yourself.

Until you follow through until something

is done come hell or high water, tears

and struggles and pain and you go

through it anyway and you show up and

you continue to fight on no matter the

circumstances, after a while something

begins to wither inside of you.

Anytime you need something that you

can't give to yourself you're at the

mercy of somebody else and when they

don't come through

you got pain and what you become is the

consequences of what you didn't get.

It's an urge. It's an urge. Truth be told

every champion has felt it, every

president has felt it, every King has

felt it, every lion has felt, every

winner has felt it, every soldier has

felt it, every victorious person has felt

it. The urge to quit. Don't you give up on your

dream. I don't care if you don't have the

money and you don't have the help and you don't

have the family for it and you don't have

the background for it and you don't have

the friends for it, don't you give up on

your dream. Don't you do it. Don't you do it

don't you do it.

It may take you twice as long. You may

have to take courses and classes, you may

not read as fast, you might not move as

quick, you might not have as much, but

don't you quit.

Don't you quit. You do make a difference

you do make a difference

you do make a difference. As weak as you

are, as tired as you are, as many mistakes

as you've made, you do make a difference.

There is something they would lose if

you were not there. There is something

that they would miss if you were not

there. You do make a difference.

Do you believe anything bad enough to fight

for it, and sweat for it, and work for it?

Deconstructing Power Ups: What Modern Games can learn from the first Super Mario Bros. - Duration: 10:40.

Power Ups have always been a part of platforming games, there is the mushroom, the star and

the fire flower in the first mario game, there is the shield, the power sneakers and the

invincibility in the first sonic game, there are the famous inhalable enemies in the kirby

series, there are the crazy gameplay twists in the galaxy games, there are the transformations

in yoshi's wooly world and many more.

Power ups have always been used in platformers to vary the gameplay, and empower the player.

Interestingly the way platforming games use power-ups changed drastically over the years.

In the beginning they often just granted a short period of invincibility or a small gameplay

upgrade, but nowadays they often completely turn the gameplay on it's head.

The interesting thing is that, in my opinion the very first super mario brothers game found

the perfect way to grant the player special abilities, and recent games are more and more

losing focus on what makes a power up feel really great and well integrated into a game.

So are you ready?

Here's why!

---

So I want to talk about three main things in this video, first why the power-ups in

super mario bros are so elegantly designed, second how the mario series distanced itself

from its own formula with the galaxy games, and third how modern games often integrate

power ups in a much more clumsy way than the first super mario game did.

Before we start let's just quickly define what I mean with power ups in this video so

that we are all talking about the same thing.

I mean gameplay changing or enhancing abilities that are given to a player to vary the gameplay

or to empower him.

But what is important is that they are in some way optional and not tied to progressing

through the game.

In short I mean the magnet shield in Sonic adventures two, but not the coin dash move

which you learn at some point and keep from then on.

I do mean the abilities kirby gains by inhaling his foes but I don't mean the moves banjo

and kazooie learn from bottles.

So with the boring stuff out of the way, let's start with the classic mario games.

In the original super mario bros. the controls are very simple, you have the d-pad for directional

movement, the b button to run and the a button to jump.

That are the basic controls, and at it's core these are still the main controls in

all 2d mario games up until today.

Those are really simple mechanics and part of the magic of the mario games comes from

really easy to understand and to use controls, but challenging and interesting stages.

Now how does obtaining a fireflower, change these controls.

Interestingly the answer is: it doesn't, it just enhances them.

the d-pad is used for the same movement ,the a button gives mario the same jump as before

and the b button the same sprint mechanic but additionally hitting b now allows him

to throw a fire-flower-fire-power-power-up.

Let's take a look on a couple of other mario power ups. the super leaf gives mario the

same jump on a but in the air he has the ability to float a little bit by hitting a again.

When at full p-speed the leaf allows to fly and the b-button is still running but when

pressed mario performs a useful tail attack as well.

The core controls aren't changed, and the interesting thing about this is, it is true

for every single power up in the 2D mario games, old and new.

Some give mario better movement options, the acorn suit for example allows mario to float

in the air, the propeller suit grants a way better spin move, the hammer suit throws hammers,

the penguin suit allows mario to throw ice balls and to glide a little bit on slopes

and so on.

But not a single power up in the traditional mario games changes the basic controls drastically,

but they enhance them in a way.

That's even true for super mario 64.

The basic controls stay the same when wearing a flight cap, but if mario performs a triple

jump he is able to fly, the invisibility cap doesn't change his controls in any way,

and the metal cap makes him heavier but allows him to use his basic controls under water.

Designing power ups this way is really clever because they enhance and empower mario, but

they don't change the actual gameplay and they are easy to understand as they are tied

to the basic controls every player already knows.

This makes them a really valuable addition for a player, because he or she still runs

through the same stage, which is beatable with power up and without power up.

The gameplay is almost the same but with a power up it's easier to beat a stage.

But what makes this really cool is that these power ups are so valuable that no player wants

to loose them.

In mario you lose them by taking damage and that makes taking damage really punishing.

No one wants to damage boost through an annoying obstacle because these power ups are not only

power ups, but marios health as well.

It's a simple and really elegant system that gives a player something valuable which

he wants to keep, enhances and varies his gameplay and functions as his health.

Super easy to understand and close to the core gameplay.

It's an incredibly elegant solution for a lot of problems.

Tons of games had systems like these in place.

Kirby for example has a specific button mapped to the powers he learns from his enemies.

If he has no power it's inhale and if he has a power it's use this power.

Sega gave our hedgehog Sonic a shield or invincibility without changing any controls and if we want

to stretch this concept a little bit we could also take the powers mega man learns from

defeating his foes as an example.

They give him more options on how to fight, but his movement and jump stays the same.

But with Super Mario Galaxy the way power ups work in the mario series changed.

In the galaxy games there are still power ups that function in a similar way as the

power ups did before, like the cloud suit that allows mario to generate clouds below

him instead of dropping down but maintains the core gameplay otherwise, or the rock suit

that changes mario's spin attack into a crazy bolder transformation but keeps his mechanics

otherwise.

But there were also things like the spring suit which completely change how mario controls.

Your movement now works different, the b button does nothing and the jump button gives you

a completely different jump than before your in air controls are changed and so on.

The boo cape changes your controls drastically and the bee suit overwrites a lot of your

basic movement options as well.

The power ups can't be kept for as long as a player does not get hit, but disappear

once you leave the area that was designed for that power up and additionally the old

tie between power ups and health is broken which leads to a couple of new problems.

The fireflower has to be on a timer, which is a little bit lame, and there is suddenly

a problem with damage boosting.

Take a look at this scene.

Coins function as health in the galaxy games and here is an obstacle, and behind it are

coins.

There is literally no penalty for just ignoring the challenge, taking damage and grabbing

the health directly behind it.

Additionally the challenges which evolve around power ups are designed so that they can only

be done with the power up and so the power up has to be regainable at every point.

That's by no means game breaking, but this system lost its elegance.

Instead of power ups being naturally woven into the game, as gameplay enhancer, health

and value to the player they are suddenly minigames that change the gameplay.

I believe the main reason why nintendo left their old system is that the galaxy games

have a different focus than the 3D mario games had before.

Power UPs played no major role in the first two 3D mario games.

In Mario 64 and Sunshine the stages were playgrounds built for mario to have an area where his

brilliant movement can shine and a player is challenged to master exactly this movement,

but in the galaxy games the focus shifted away from mario towards the stages.

Suddenly every stage was built around a new unique creative gimmick, and mario became

the tool to explore all these different worlds, instead of the world's beeing tools for Mario

to jump and toy around.

The game is no longer about mario but about the galaxies, that's maybe one of the reasons

why mario lost a lot of his unique movement options when switching to the wii.

Because the focus shifted away from mario himself.

And it might be the reason why power ups are used in an unusual way for the marios series

in these games.

I'm not trying to say the galaxy games are better or worse than the other mario games,

in fact critics loved the games, users loved the games, the sales were great and I personally

loved the games so they probably did something right there, but what I want to say is that

there was a shift in the mario series with the galaxy games, and there was a shift in

game design in general at this time.

Whether the tremendous success of the galaxy games, made other studios copy ideas from

these games, or there was a general shift in the idea how to design a game at this time

is debatable but a lot of platforming games started to value variation in the different

challenges higher, in fact in some cases they started to value variation higher than their

core mechanics.

Yoshi suddenly started to fly around as a missile shooting plane or a mole digging through

the ground with completely different controls, sonic suddenly discovered the power of the

color wisps which transformed him into a bird or into a drilling machine which changed his

core gameplay completely and Kirby suddenly stopped to inhale enemies but transformed

into a tank.

Whether this happened because of Galaxy can be discussed, but what definitely happened

with some power ups is that they changed from core gameplay enhancing options, towards gimmicky

minigames and I think this is a trap in which some recent games walked into.

There is this idea that the more varied a game is the more fun it is, and this is definitely

true to some degree but at least I believe that it's never a good idea to distance

yourself from the core gameplay beyond recognition in order to create more variation.

Variation has to come in the level design, which surprises with amazing ideas, but not

by changing the core gameplay from jumping around to being a motorbike, or a weird black

hole.

This idea worked for the galaxy games and in all honesty I'm not entirely sure how

nintendo was able to pull this off so that the whole game feels like a cohesive experience

but I think at least part of the answer is that the galaxy games at their core don't

focus on mario, but on varying galaxies.

The very first super mario bros. already had a brilliant system on which it's definitely

possible to build upon.

Cleverly used power ups can enrichen and vary a game by building upon the core mechanics,

but if core mechanics don't work transforming into a bird won't magically make the game

any better, and if your core mechanics work fine the question arises why to ditch them

for an umbrella mini game, when this mechanic could be woven into the core gameplay in a

more subtle way.

There is a certain elegance in having simple gameplay that gets enhanced by small tweaks,

mario's power ups are a great example how to vary gameplay without loosing it's main

focus.

Interestingly mario went back to the old power up design with 3D world and 3D Land and it's

going to be interesting to find out what nintendo's plans for super mario odyssey are.

How You Can Be A Smart Investor - Duration: 5:23.

- YouTube!

Facebook!

Instagram, what's poppin'?

Got a free book summary for you.

Intelligent Investor.

We're gonna be talking about how to invest your money.

Remember this:

Most people are always working for money

and money never works for them.

This is a complicated book

but I'm gonna make it easy for you.

We're gonna take the Aventador.

We're actually looking at some real estate.

But I'm gonna give you this book,

the tips so you don't have to read it.

This right here's the Aventador.

(imitates car zooming)

Always open the doors, men.

Here's the first tip of the book,

it's not even in the book

but it's the first thing I learned about investing.

How much money do you make in a job

if you're making, let's say 20 bucks an hour?

If you make 20 bucks an hour

you make about $40,000 a year.

That's what it comes out to.

But, imagine

if you made $20 an hour,

but 24 hours a day.

Now, completely changes the game.

Now you're making over a $100,000 a year.

So the first rule is money's gotta work for you,

not just in a job.

Second thing is,

and what's big in this book,

Intelligent Investor,

and what Warren Buffett uses,

whenever you invest your money,

make sure there's what's called a margin of safety.

That means if you think it's barely a good investment,

if you're gonna put in a $1000, a $100,000, a million,

and you think there's a 50/50 chance

that it's gonna be a good investment,

don't do it.

Because things rarely work out as well as you think.

You basically only want things that are home runs.

And it's okay to pass on investments,

because people get too much FOMO,

they go "Oh, if I miss this one investment,

"another one will never come around."

No.

So for example,

if you got a friend that tells you,

"Look man, you invest 10 grand and you're gonna make,

"you got a really good chance you can make 11 grand back".

Or if you're gonna invest in the stock market,

and you think you're gonna get

a 20% return on your investment, right?

Which would be considered good.

Odds are it ain't gonna work out as well as you think.

Not to be a pessimist,

but-- - You really see.

- Yeah, if you look at the down-side,

when it doesn't go amazingly well

and it's still not too bad,

that's what you wanna invest in.

I'll look at investments,

not just the financial margin of safety,

but also an enjoyable one.

Meaning if it doesn't work out

did I enjoy the year that I spent doing it?

Did I enjoy the people I was around, the business partners.

And by the way,

I'll throw this out as an investment tip.

It's not in the book,

but that book was written quite a long time ago.

Mark my words,

social media and your ability

to invest in understanding it, using it.

When you see big trends like this,

never be too late to the game.

Billions of people are potentially

understanding your message,

your art, your business,

your product, your invention, your idea.

(laid back hip hop music)

Well, guess what.

- We're stranded.

- The Lambo key died,

so now we're gonna have to go take a Lyft

to get the new Lambo key battery.

Fun.

Auto Zone to get batteries,

so this doesn't happen again.

(chuckling)

There we go.

New battery.

Let's see if it works though.

By the way, if you're liking these book summaries,

I forgot to say yesterday,

Mentor Box.

I invested in a new company.

Book summaries on demand.

Ship books to your house.

All kinds of stuff.

So you don't have to read the whole book,

but you can get all the good info in there.

Remember, formal education will make you a living.

Self education will make you a fortune.

So check out Mentor Box if you get a chance.

A guy's running the company,

the co-founder, he's a cool guy.

It's out of San Francisco,

but we're shipping,

like 100 countries.

And it even has a digital version, too.

So, what'd you say?

- Alright, so this is how it is.

Tai Lopez here is the man.

You know what he did for me?

He inspired me.

I made my own business.

300,000 the past three weeks.

- Construction business. - Construction business.

- That's nice.

- I'm 23 years old,

hustling the way I'm supposed to because of him.

- Zack, what did you think of Guardians of the Galaxy 2?

- I didn't even see the first one,

so I was confused pretty much most of the time.

I didn't know what was happening--

- You've seen the first one!

- Rome, what'd you think of Guardians of the Galaxy?

- I have no thoughts,

I don't know how to process it--

- [Tai] You don't know what you just watched?

- Yeah, I don't know what that was.

(female laughing)

It was interesting though.

- [Tai] What'd Wulbert think of it?

- Oh, it was pretty good.

You know what I'm sayin'?

Yeah, almost good as Transformers.

(giggling)

Say hi to your mother for me, okay?

(laughing)

- [Tai] Zack, why do you have a backpack on?

- In case any of my fans spot me here,

I can change.

I don't have to take pictures

or do any autograph signings.

Yeah, I'm not in the mood this weekend.

- [Tai] No autograph signings?

- No. (laughing)

- [Tai] What are you gonna say

if people want an autograph?

- I'm gonna tell 'em no, no, not tonight I'm tired.

Go bother Tai, please.
