THE ESSENCE OF TRUE TRANQUILITY: an Animated Story - Duration: 5:11.

once upon a time in ancient China the Emperor was in his study looking over

volumes of diplomatic documents. he found it hard to concentrate so he summoned

his most trusted minister and when the minister arrived he said Minister I wish

to focus on the affairs of the estate but my mind is unsettled and agitated

when I feel like this I need something I can look at to help me regain

tranquility. have the best artists in the land create a painting that has the

power to calm me down. a painting that captures the essence of true tranquility.

a few days later the minister presented three artists widely considered to be

the best in China. "my lord these three talented artists will get to work and

you can choose a winner". once their labor was complete the Emperor was summoned to

inspect their work. he and his minister came to the first painting, what lay

before them was a lake surrounded by mountains. the surface of the lake was

perfectly still and conveyed a peaceful feeling.

the Emperor smiled, "beautiful". the second painting showed a snow scape. it evoked

the silence after a snowfall, a deep silence that went beyond mere lack of

noise because the snowbanks absorbed all sound. the Emperor nodded his approval,

"insightful". they then came to the third painting what lay before them this time

was a waterfall! I'm so sorry your majesty,

the minister said, it looks like this artist did not understand my

instructions to paint a scene of serenity.

let me discard this painting and we can choose from the first two. he reached for

the painting but the Empress stopped him, "no wait". he stared at it for a moment

longer and then said "this is the painting for me". "what but your majesty

how can this waterfall compare to the other two and representing tranquillity?

I do not understand". "the waterfall is not the most important

thing in this painting", said the Emperor "look again"

the minister took another look at the painting more carefully this time he saw

next to the waterfall was a tree and on one of the branches of the tree was a

nest and inside that nest was a bird sound asleep. "see how the bird is able to

relax and rest even though the deafening torrent is so close to it", the emperor

pointed out. "it has such a profound quietness within that external

conditions have no power to irritate or disturb, now that is the essence of true

tranquility. now that story like any Chinese story has meaning hidden in the

images but before I go into I just want to say what a beautiful job Daisy the

animator did and that animation was only possible thanks to the help of the

get now there's a lot that we can learn from this story let's take each image in

turn the first image depicts a lake with the surface of the water perfectly

smooth yeah this does not capture the essence of true tranquility because

although externally it looks calm and peaceful under the water there may be

currents and turbulence in our own lives we all know that appearing tranquil

isn't quite enough we know those people who are Instagram may depict these

perfect lives but on the inside our anchors worried and stressed we know

truly to find peace we need more than just appearances we need internal calm

as well so that's why the second painting does better it depicts a snow

scene and the snow scene can't have currents underneath the snow so at least

the external and internal worlds match each other but where did the snow come

from came from a snow storm and so therefore this former tranquility is

inherently limited and temporary soon enough another storm will come and chaos

will resume and the final painting depicted a bird sound asleep next to a

waterfall the deafening torrents outside could not wake it its internal

tranquility was independent of external conditions in the same way that

I wouldn't have found true tranquility going to China and staying there for

the rest of my life. I needed to take these ideas back to my busy normal life

full of complications, families and relationships that often go wrong

it's these situations that are the true test of what we learned. now this story

comes from Derek Lin's Tao of success. I can't recommend it enough it's an

amazing book of how you can apply Taoist ideas into our normal lives and be

successful in a way that's in keeping with the Tao. he leaves us with a

beautiful thought, and that is when we're neck stressed or anxious to bring

the bird to mind and to be reminded that tranquility and getting peace isn't

about running away to a quiet place is about finding the tranquility within

single wealthy gentleman now it had been said that in town people had noticed the

maiden and the gentleman giving each other glances of what seemed like

admiration but there was quite a difference in their status however every

year the young gentleman would hold a pumpkin festival and invite guests and

they would dress up for the gala and come in they're beautiful attire but it

is said that the young maiden wanting to impress the gentlemen thought she would

give him a gift from her garden the very best and most perfect pumpkin so she

waited and nurtured that punkin and waited to pick it until the very last

moment before the festival well you see she started the climb on her horse

carrying the pumpkin and it was a very dark dark night but as she was going up

the mountain something startled her horse and she met a tragic end

and never! whoa. I repeat never made it to the festival

and to meet her true love oh that is so sad Oh yikes but here is the rest of our

tale the beautiful maiden is buried in that old cemetery you know the ones just

down the lane. oh no way truly see for yourself yeah I know the

one you mean the one that's like oh all over grown. yes that is the one because

what you will find is every year someone somehow a pumpkin mysteriously appears

at her headstone because they have said it is to give her peace and still to

this day even with the pumpkin they say that she roams the cemetery looking for

a very perfect pumpkin on Halloween oh wow no way see for yourself that's amazing

oh that is some story what that concludes our stories with Hanni for now

oh that was really fun good story Hanni. hmm pumpkin princess well I

gotta admit Hanni, that was a pretty good story you know a pretend story. a pretend

amendment to end the practice of birthright citizenship by illegal alien parents.

And today The Gateway Pundit is reporting he is indeed about to sign an executive order

that would remove that right immediately.

"President Trump plans to sign an executive order that would remove the right to citizenship

for babies of non-citizens and unauthorized immigrants born on U.S. soil, he said yesterday

in an exclusive interview for "Axios on HBO," a new four-part documentary news series

debuting on HBO this Sunday at 6:30 p.m. ET/PT.

Why it matters: This would be the most dramatic move yet in Trump's hardline immigration

campaign, this time targeting "anchor babies" and "chain migration."

And it will set off another stand-off with the courts, as Trump's power to do this

through executive action is debatable to say the least.

Trump told "Axios on HBO" that he has run the idea of ending birthright citizenship

by his counsel and plans to proceed with the highly controversial move, which certainly

will face legal challenges.

"It was always told to me that you needed a constitutional amendment.

Guess what?

You don't," Trump said, declaring he can do it by executive order.

When told that's very much in dispute, Trump replied: "You can definitely do it with

an Act of Congress.

But now they're saying I can do it just with an executive order."

"We're the only country in the world where a person comes in and has a baby, and the

baby is essentially a citizen of the United States … with all of those benefits,"

Trump continued.

"It's ridiculous.

It's ridiculous.

And it has to end."

The president expressed surprise that "Axios on HBO" knew about his secret plan: "I

didn't think anybody knew that but me.

I thought I was the only one.

"

Behind the scenes: "Axios on HBO" had been working for weeks on a story on Trump's

plans for birthright citizenship, based on conversations with several sources, including

one close to the White House Counsel's office.

The legal challenges would force the courts to decide on a constitutional debate over

the 14th Amendment, which says:

"All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction

thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside."

Be smart: Few immigration and constitutional scholars believe it is within the president's

power to change birthright citizenship, former U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services

chief counsel Lynden Melmed tells Axios.

But some conservatives have argued that the 14th Amendment was only intended to provide

citizenship to children born in the U.S. to lawful permanent residents — not to unauthorized

immigrants or those on temporary visas.

John Eastman, a constitutional scholar and director of Chapman University's Center

for Constitutional Jurisprudence, told "Axios on HBO" that the Constitution has been misapplied

over the past 40 or so years.

He says the line "subject to the jurisdiction thereof" originally referred to people with

full, political allegiance to the U.S. — green card holders and citizens.

Michael Anton, a former national security official in the Trump administration, recently

took up this argument in the Washington Post.

Anton said that Trump could, via executive order, "specify to federal agencies that

the children of noncitizens are not citizens" simply because they were born on U.S. soil.

(It's not yet clear whether Trump will take this maximalist argument, though his previous

rhetoric suggests there's a good chance.)

But others — such as Judge James C. Ho, who was appointed by Trump to Fifth Circuit

Court of Appeals, in New Orleans — say the line in the amendment refers to the legal

obligation to follow U.S. laws, which applies to all foreign visitors (except diplomats)

and immigrants.

He has written that changing how the 14th Amendment is applied would be "unconstitutional."

Between the lines: Until the 1960s, the 14th Amendment was never applied to undocumented

or temporary immigrants, Eastman said.

Between 1980 and 2006, the number of births to unauthorized immigrants — which opponents

of birthright citizenship call "anchor babies" — skyrocketed to a peak of 370,000, according

to a 2016 study by Pew Research.

It then declined slightly during and following the Great Recession."
