"Whoa. Kim jin, you are so old-fashioned"[Happy Together/2018.10.18] - Duration: 15:33.

- You see... / - Go ahead.

- It's a true story. / - It's funny.

- He didn't make it up. / - Exactly.

The three of you should step up.

Even though we're different generations,

- we feel the same way. / - But things have changed.

Still, your fans must've expressed their affection.

I had a fan club too,

so I can relate to Woohyun's story.

I was famous for my singing ability.

Before I made my debut as a singer,

I was popular at karaoke.

Every karaoke star would have the same experience.

- Right. / - It happened to me too.

Whenever I sang, girls asked to hang with them.

- Really? / - Girls in the next room.

- My gosh. / - I see.

Honestly, when we were by ourselves, I sang...

♪ Mom, please let me do what I want ♪

- We just had fun / - Shin Seunghun's song.

while singing upbeat songs like that.

But when the girls joined us...

(As soon as the girls joined them...)

(You say that I am too naive)

- You sang solemn songs. / - We sang songs like this.

We suddenly started singing...

(They tried to look serious.)

We sang songs like this.

- We tried to look lonely. / - Right.

I was the most popular kid in Jayang-dong

and Guui-dong.

The star of Gwangjang-dong was Hong Kyungmin.

(Hong Kyungmin was Sungmo's rival.)

I kept him in check. "Hong Kyungmin"

- "is the best?" / - "He's a great singer."

"Then I should have a match against him."

- It's hard to believe. / - The word spread.

- I see. / - Fan clubs were formed.

And kids like me sang at the school festivals.

But we weren't celebrities back then.

So even if our fans liked us,

they were embarrassed to give us a gift.

30 to 40 girls asked me to see them at a cafe.

I asked why they wanted to see me.

"We all pitched in to buy this."

- "It's for you." / - She tried to be cool.

That must've been awkward.

- They were embarrassed / - They felt awkward.

- to give it to me. / - He wasn't a celebrity.

- I wasn't a celebrity. / - They were embarrassed.

- They liked me. / - They liked you,

- but they weren't crazy about you. / - Not that much.

- It was ambiguous. / - But they liked me.

They would've screamed if they'd liked him madly,

- but they didn't. / - Not that much.

"It's for you." So I received it.

Thinking about it now, it's hard to believe

that I was in 10th grade,

and most of my fans were in 11th or 12th grade.

(Older girls showed their affection a lot.)

When you're in school, people who are

a year or two older than you feel much older.

That's true.

However, even after I became a singer,

many of my fans were still older than me.

- That's interesting. / - If I think about it...

The fact that older women liked you

- is hard to believe. / - Looking at you three...

- What wouldn't be? / - I've always been

- the one with a crush. / - They can relate to it.

But you three can't seem to relate to the story.

- Everything is new to me. / - "What is he saying?"

It's really hard to believe.

- As a popular star... / - Yes?

Be completely honest with me.

Have you ever considered yourself to be handsome?

- No, I haven't. / - Tell me honestly.

- It's the truth. / - Is it?

- Yes. / - I'm relieved.

- He's objective. / - But he's so popular.

I'm objective about myself.

- I never thought that. / - The same goes for me.

- I never thought that. / - Of course.

It would be weird if we did.

- I never did. / - It would be weird.

- That'd be pathetic. / - Gosh.

- Pathetic? / - It's interesting.

Seunghyun, do you have an experience like that?

I made my debut when I was in high school.

- I bet he was so popular. / - It was a co-ed school.

One day, a girl in my class

brought a pencil case that she'd customized.

Back then, plastic underlay sheet

with a star's photo on it was popular among kids.

It was also popular to make a pencil case...

- With hardboard paper. / - That's right.

They covered it with photos

- of their favorite stars. / - Exactly.

Then they covered it with packing tapes.

Many of our writers are nodding.

- Hand-made pencil case. / - Right.

The popular stars were Yoo Seungjun, H.O.T,

Sechs Kies and many more. Kim Wonjun as well.

Sungmo and Jin were also popular.

What about Jaeseok?

- What about him? / - He wasn't one of them.

So...

There were photos of stars on her pencil case,

and I saw my photo

- in a corner. / - Right.

She must've liked you.

I said, "Hey. You put my photo on it."

She said, "What are you talking about?"

"Why didn't you tell me? You put my photo on it."

She said that there was an empty space,

so she used my photo unintentionally.

- A photo in a magazine? / - Yes.

- A photo in a magazine? / - In a magazine?

- She cut out his photo. / - He was active back then.

Exactly. She said she had no other photos.

She tried to hide her affection for me.

Seeing that Jin is rolling his eyes,

I think he's trying to recall his memory.

- Tell us how it was. / - Well, I wasn't so popular

- like them. / - Are you serious?

In high school, I was in the photography club.

When I exhibited my photos...

- Photography suits you. / - Exactly.

Girls from other schools came to the exhibition

and watched the talent show.

- They gave me flowers. / - Flowers.

Some girls gave chocolate.

But back then, I wasn't used to it.

A girl gave me a gift, and I was supposed to take it.

But I felt like I should date her if I took it.

He's so old-fashioned.

If you hold a girl's hand, you should marry her.

(If you hold her hand, you should marry her?)

Somehow, I felt...

- You have a responsibility. / - That's right.

I felt like I shouldn't give her my number.

- You'd have to call her. / - That's right.

I knew I should take it, but I just couldn't.

- While I was hesitating, / - It's a generation gap.

the girls threw the gifts on the floor and left.

They yelled, "This is ridiculous!"

- They must've been upset. / - But back then...

- They must've been upset. / - It wasn't my intention.

- You just had to take it. / - I couldn't take it

because I thought I should date her if I did.

- The girls thought / - They were disappointed.

that you were disrespectful of them.

- Right. / - It was around 1991.

- Very old-fashioned... / - It was a long time ago.

Nothing like that has ever happened to me.

- I can't relate to that. / - Didn't anyone confess

- her love in high school? / - What about Song Euni?

That was after I graduated from college.

- Did Euni ask you out? / - No, she didn't.

- When you were in school... / - She kissed him.

Didn't any girl follow you to give you a letter?

That never happened to me.

- She kissed him? / - Not even once.

Didn't anyone ask you out?

The only letter I received was a chain letter.

- You could die. / - Back then,

- chain letters... / - If you don't send it,

- If you don't send it... / - bad things happen.

"This letter began somewhere..."

- "In London". / - "It began in London."

"If you don't forward this to people around you..."

I'd been slapped by a girl two years older than me.

She told me to stop spreading a false rumor.

- At a cafe. / - To shut your mouth.

- "To shut your mouth". / - She slapped me so suddenly.

"You told him about me, right?" And I said yes.

She said, "You jerk" and slapped me.

Is that your memory of your school days?

- Yes. / - That's all we have.

We only have memories like this.

By the way, I've been hearing a weird rumor about Kang.

What kind of rumor is it?

When I was in school, I was shy, expressionless

- and quiet around girls. / - You were chic.

Some people wondered if I like men.

- That's possible. / - He looked indifferent.

- Looking indifferent... / - Right.

There was no such rumor in the past, right?

It wasn't even possible to think that way.

Since I'm still single,

- I heard that a lot. / - What did you hear?

- My goodness. / - I said, "Nonsense."

- "I like women so much." / - Really?

- "Don't say that." / - He was taken aback.

When we were waiting at the back,

I asked if he wanted me to set him up with someone,

he said yes right away.

- He likes women. / - So I said I'll do that.

I set Lee Chunsoo up with his wife.

- Really? / - I didn't know that.

Yes. I matched three couples last year.

Who are they?

- Well... / - Are you a matchmaker?

Then...

Do you have anyone in mind for Jin?

- For Jin? / - Yes.

- Really? / - He'll get married soon.

- Right. / - What kind of woman

do you think would be good for Jin?

A quiet woman or a cheerful woman?

Someone like Hyeongyeong would be great too.

I think so too.

As far as I know, they are acquainted.

- We met on a TV show. / - That's right.

- We were partners. / - On "X-Man".

- Really? / - We had a lot of fun.

I think you two won't see each other for a while.

Neither of them seems happy.

They don't look happy.

- We met after 10 years. / - Seunghyun said

he could find the right person, but I'm surprised.

- I was surprised too. / - He's a poor judge.

He's such a poor judge of character.

Their age gap isn't ideal.

I heard that Seunghyun bribed

- Saeho and Hyunmoo. / - Is that true?

- He did? What about us? / - He bribed us?

- Oh, that? / - Well...

- You didn't give us. / - Are we not important?

It's not like that. I'll give you later.

- "I'll give you." / - "I'll give you."

- It's not a bribe. / - What is it?

It's not a bribe. Since I'm a celebrity...

As you know, many celebrities run their own businesses.

I also run a health supplement company,

and I'm the director of public relations.

So I sent Hyunmoo a message on his social media site.

He'd sent me a message to cheer for me

when I was in a play. I was grateful.

When I got his message, I thought he was a con man.

He wrote, "I'm Kim Seunghyun."

But I wasn't acquainted with him at all.

Then it turned out to be him. I've been enjoying it.

Hyunmoo trusted me and replied to me.

So I sent him some of my products. Saeho

and I have known each other for a while.

So I sent him a message. He gladly helped me out.

Cabbage goes well with vinegar.

- Cabbage pickled / - It sounds delicious.

- in vinegar is good. / - It's delicious.

- Seunghyun works hard. / - Indeed.

We used to get cast for commercials and dramas

just because we did well in vaulting or high jump.

Our shows got 10 percent of viewer ratings.

Just as Sungmo said,

they got lots of offers for commercials back then.

- They were so popular... / - "Let's Go! Dream Team".

We were the initial members.

I remember that Sungmo was the king of vaulting,

but Seunghyun beat Sungmo.

He was the only one to beat me. We were the top two.

I actually saw Seunghyun at a pop-up store,

promoting and selling his products.

He lives his life to the fullest.

I believe he'll become successful.

You have no choice when you have a child.

I'm sure you all know what I mean.

Just as Sungmo said before,

he got offers for commercials so easily.

He was in so many commercials.

When I appeared on "Let's Go! Dream Team",

if I won the vaulting contest,

500,000 copies of my album were sold

- the next day. / - What's your best record?

- 2m 50cm. / - Back then,

the show got over 30 percent of ratings.

- That's incredible. / - These days,

- we can't get that much. / - It's impossible.

Seunghyun and I were on "Let's Go Dream Team" together.

One day, they decided vaulting was boring.

- We did ssireum instead. / - Ssireum.

We played against

- female high school ssireum athletes. / - Right.

We did it in Yeouido.

Right. I was there too.

(There was a big crowd.)

(Myungsoo 19 years ago)

(He was yelling even then.)

(Sungmo was impersonating a woodpecker.)

(Sungmo won.)

We were playing ssireum against women,

and 20,000 people came to watch us.

- I played ssireum too then. / - You were there too.

It took me two hours just to enter the venue.

(It took him two hours to enter the set.)

It took a very long time

to get through the crowd.

- It was for Sungmo. / - Sungmo was popular,

and so was "Let's Go Dream Team".

I remember this.

Jaeseok made an appearance once.

He was doing the long jump.

He landed with his jaw.

- It wasn't the long jump. / - No?

- He did the long jump. / - Right. The long jump.

He jumped and landed with his jaw.

Really?

(Sprinting)

(What?)

It was like he intended it.

He landed with his face.

I jumped and landed with my face.

(He landed with his face.)

There's a video. It still makes me laugh.

I've always wanted to ask him.

Was he pretending to be bad at sports to be funny

or was he really bad at sports at the time?

- I am curious. / - I was just bad.

(He was just bad.)

And he was... At the time,

he wasn't even funny. He was funny as the MC,

but he wasn't funny as a cast member.

He wasn't even asked questions.

The only time he received attention

was when he was doing the grasshopper dance.

- He kept doing the dance. / - He did it for 10 years.

I thought the grasshopper dance was his only talent.

Did he bungee-jump?

It remains as a great memory.

He had to bungee-jump

from a height of over 100m.

- It was 102m. / - It was 102m.

- It was over 100cm high. / - He has acrophobia.

It's amazing that he managed to jump.

We were bungee-jumping,

and the celebrities who couldn't do it

made their excuses and left early.

They couldn't do it.

Only the people willing to jump remained.

And he was there.

- He had a strong will. / - I didn't have work.

Thinking back,

I think all the people who jumped with me then

had a lot of free time.

Who were they?

Who jumped?

- Sangin? / - Sangin jumped.

- Sangin jumped. / - Sangin.

Namhyun jumped too.

- You remember them all. / - They had a lot of time.

We jumped. When we met again in Korea,

everyone went crazy. Nobody thought Jaeseok would jump.

He had acrophobia.

- I remember it. / - We knew him,

so we thought he wouldn't be able to.

My acrophobia is serious.

- How did you jump? / - I was worried.

I had to jump to be on TV.

Did you jump without hesitating?

Of course I hesitated.

I still remember the wind blowing from the valley

when I was on top of the platform.

I still remember it blowing in my ears.

It was winter.

And the valley was 104m deep.

- It was so deep. / - It was so deep.

In the far bottom,

there was a stream.

- That's crazy. / - The wind was like this.

(It kept blowing past him.)

It was hanging in between two cliffs.

That must've been so scary.

When I came back to Korea, the other guys called me

- I was terrified. / - and said Jaeseok had jumped.

"Really? No way. Did he really?"

Three, two, one.

(Jump)

(Jaeseok flies.)

("Magic Castle" is such a perfect song for this.)

(Jaeseok succeeded to bungee-jump.)

(He was interviewed right after the jump.)

(I was confident to do it.)

When you have confidence in anything...

When he came back after the bungee jump,

- his career bloomed. / - Really?

- Really? / - He became the MC.

Does your career bloom when you jump?

I don't know about that.

Times have changed.

- I have another memory. / - You should jump.

I also bungee-jumped in Taiwan.

They were going through a draught at the time.

It was during the draught.

- There were only rocks in the bottom. / - Oh, dear.

I couldn't jump first.

By the way, we are talking among ourselves.

I am sorry.

Let's stop there.

- They are memories. / - Right. Once we start,

we can't stop.

It tastes like a hamburger steak?

I've never had a handmade burger like this.

I should've ordered a larger one.

The small size is too small.

(Where is this place that stole So Hyun's heart?)

Like this tall?

This tall when I'm standing on tiptoe?

(What's this rock making So Hyun exclaim?)

It's awesome, right?

It's huge!

What should I bring?

(Because This is My First Twenty)

(Kim So Hyun's Yolo Solo California)

I heard there're not many restaurants near the desert,

so thought I should eat before I go.

So that I can tour well after,

I went to a burger shop and ate well.

(Fatburger)

(Bucket list No. 2) / (Arrives at the famous Las Vegas restaurant)

(Big fat = Very fat?) / (Big size as the name says)

(In a different league) / (S to XXXL sizes?)

(Because It's My First Time Finding a Flower in the Desert)

(Cleverly completed ordering)

(Exact payment)

(Self-service drinks)

This is all new to me!

What is this?

I guess I just press this?

(Step 1: Get ice) / (Clear)

(Pouring out)

(Big accident)

(Oh no!)

(Even the shirt is soaked.) / (Soda waterfall incident)

This is crazy!

(Cleaning up)

I wondered if I just needed to touch it, so I tried and it was right.

So I just pressed the button and it all poured out.

I got completely soaked.

(So cold!)

You learn as you try...

so that's fun.

The food is served. Awesome!

(I'm going to eat cleverly.)

I ordered the small one, and it's really this small.

This is how it looks next to my fist.

Do you remember this, right?

The pill I have to take before I eat.

About two of them?

So that I can eat without worrying.

(It reduces the guilty feeling.)

Should I try tasting it now?

This is,

a handmade burger famous in the American West since 1952...

(Triple King Challenge)

(If you finish in three minutes, you enter the Hall of Fame!)

My goodness! What is this?

(Only three minutes are given.)

It's so large!

What is this?

It's amazing. So huge!

(Featuring three patties) / (Triple Burger)

(Can she eat it all?)

If I finish eating it in three minutes,

he will post my picture there,

and he said I will become famous,

but how could I eat it all?

(Shaking)

Because I still want to try a lot of different food,

I ordered a small one.

(Chow)

It's so good.

It's so juicy.

(Mouth-watering)

It tastes like hamburg steak?

I should've ordered a larger one.

The small size is too small.

I'm regretting now.

(It's so delicious!)

(Even the last bite) / (Neatly clearing)

(Mission complete)

I made a plan...

to go to the Joshua Tree National Park,

and the Mojave Desert.

I'm planning to go to those two places,

but I can't really imagine what they'll be like.

But what I heard from someone I know,

if you were to look at the stars at night in the desert,

it feels like they're pouring down upon you.

So I'm really looking forward to it.

And what would the hot sunny desert be like?

Those are all unfamiliar to me so...

I'm very curious.

I think it'd be a whole new place for me so I'm looking forward.

So please come with me.

(You can get there only after driving on the vast desert road.)

(Near Joshua Tree National Park) / (Like a flower in the desert)

(Salvation Mountain)

Ta-da!

Do you see this?

I'm finally at the desert!

I've always wanted to go to a desert, but now that I'm here,

I can feel it's really dry and hot,

and there's really nothing so I'm a bit surprised.

But since this is the place I really wanted to visit,

I'll try to enjoy it.

Shall we go? Let's go together!

(One by one) / (30 years of effort and belief)

(It's Salvation Mountain.)

The weather is so hot by the way.

It's really hot.

You can't see it too well from this side,

but it says 'GOD IS' in red and 'LOVE' in pink.

My goodness!

The reason this is like that is...

it's made over 30 years since 1985.

The person named 'Leonard Knight'...

is an ordinary person.

An ordinary man who worked as a truck driver, welder, car mechanic,

was riding in a hot-air balloon called 'JESUS IS LOVE',

which crashed. However, he survived.

He survived and thought it was divine revelation,

and decided to stay at this place.

There was nothing here including electricity.

With not much around, he used dirt or any paint nearby,

and made all these things himself.

(A folk art worthy of preservation and protection)

(Senses get stronger with the sunset.)

The Salvation Mountain is...

an artwork that one person made over 30 years, right?

There is a saying, which I'm not sure if you've heard of it.

As the saying, 'Flowers bloom even in a desert',

I felt Salvation Mountain itself was the flower in the desert.

And because it's the desert, the sun is very strong and it's very windy,

the Salvation Mountain works were...

affected and the colors came off and changed.

So the volunteers on site kept doing the preservation work,

to maintain it.

I hope Salvation Mountain, the flower in the desert,

will continued to be maintained for a long time.

(Driving through another desert)

(Where is she headed now?)

(From Joshua Tree National Park to the Mojave Desert)

I'm on my way to Seven Magic Mountains.

It's just desert all around.

There's really nothing.

Would it really be here?

I don't think it'll be there.

What?

I found it! My goodness, it's over there!

Awesome! Can you see it?

(Somewhere over here)

The pillars in different colors are standing.

Let's explore today why this Seven Magic Mountains is famous.

You can start to see it over there.

That's Seven Magic Mountains.

Let's go look!

Salvation Mountain we went earlier was,

near L.A. in California.

This is a desert near Las Vegas, as you can see.

You know the name of this artwork is 'Seven Magic Mountains'?

It's named that way because they are seven magical mountains.

But why are they seven magic...

why are they seven magic mountains?

I'm curious.

Even though I went there, I still don't know why.

It's an artwork by a famous artist Ugo Rondinone.

It's an expression of human presence in the desert,

but I don't know about that...

it's called magic mountains so,

I thought maybe he tried to illustrate seven splendid magicians?

But even until now, exactly what he tried to express,

what he really meant by magic mountains... I can't figure it out.

If anyone knows the answer, please leave it on my In*gram.

Please help me!

It's a lot bigger than I thought and there are a lot of visitors!

I heard that to pose for a picture here,

the required prop is a cone.

You know the cone that you eat ice cream with?

If you take a photo with a cone and the artwork in the far background,

it'd look like you put ice cream on top.

By the way, it's that pretty.

How did he make this?

I'll show you how big the rocks are by standing next to them.

Can you see?

There are so many boulders stacked up.

I'll go near.

Wow, it's so huge!

Someone is taking a picture so I ran out.

I'm under the boulder...

This is where my height reaches.

If I'm just standing, I can reach up to this much.

This tall when I'm standing on tiptoe?

It's crazy, right?

And if you want to see how large it is,

here is a small rock to compare.

It's actually not small.

It's a very large boulder compared to this small rock.

Isn't this one about my height though?

Is it similar to me?

This one is about my height, but that one is...

Look at this! It's so huge!

(Enormous)

I can't reach it even if I stretch out my arm.

You'll have to stack two of me.

It's awesome!

(It'd be disappointing not to take a selfie.)

(#Is_it_an_ad?, #Proof_required, #Doesn't_fit, #With_the_rock)

(Indeed, the queen of advertisement)

(Taking a bite of Seven Magic Mountains ice cream)

(This is how it really looks.)

Caravan Continues To Ignore Trump's Warning, So His Response Just Got Bigger - Duration: 4:32.

President Donald Trump warned the large migrant caravan headed for the U.S. border that they'd

do well to turn back around and go home, but they didn't listen.

Now, they might be realizing their big mistake after Trump's latest announcement.

This is going to get ugly.

Reports last week estimated that the Trump administration was preparing to send 800 U.S.

troops to the border to stave off the thousands-strong caravan of Central American migrants.

Now, that number has drastically increased.

According to The Wall Street Journal, "The U.S. military plans to deploy 5,000 troops

to the southwest U.S. border in anticipation of a caravan of would-be asylum seekers and

migrants currently moving northward in Mexico, U.S. officials said Monday."

The plans, dubbed "Operation Faithful Patriot," reportedly call for 1,800 troops to deploy

to Texas, 1,700 to Arizona, and 1,500 to California.

Under "Operation Faithful Patriot," troops are expected to be assigned to ports of entry

in the early phase.

They are expected to support Border Patrol agents and U.S. Customs and Border Protection

(CBP) officers in dealing with the anticipated migrant caravan arrivals.

The troops are expected to come from about ten U.S. Army installations.

The composition of the forces is expected to include military police, engineers, and

medical personnel.

CBP Commissioner Kevin McAleenan said his agency is updating "longstanding plans to

deal with a mass migration situation."

Those plans include temporary holding and processing facilities, he said.

McAleenan said he plans to ensure the CBP can "secure the ports (of entry) and prevent

a large group from coming at one time."

[Source: Breitbart]

President Donald Trump is expected to make a speech on Tuesday to outline other actions

he will take to stop the migrant caravan from successfully entering the United States.

Those could include a national security-based executive order to limit or halt the migrant's

ability to make asylum claims at the border.

"Many Gang Members and some very bad people are mixed into the Caravan heading to our

Southern Border.

Please go back, you will not be admitted into the United States unless you go through the

legal process," the president tweeted.

"This is an invasion of our Country and our Military is waiting for you!"

Indeed, the caravan is chock-full of dangerous criminals and gang members.

That much was openly admitted by one of the migrants himself during an on-camera interview

with Fox News.

"Criminals are everywhere," said Honduran immigrant Nixon Hernandez.

"It's criminals in here.

It is.

But it is not that many.

It is good people here trying to get through Mexico and then get to the United States.

It doesn't mean that everybody is a criminal."

While there are undoubtedly "good people" traveling with the migrant caravan, it only

takes a handful of bad eggs to make a major, irreversible impact.

After all, the Boston Marathon bombing was carried out by just two people; the 9/11 terrorist

attacks were perpetrated by only 19 men, yet still resulted in nearly 3,000 dead Americans.

In a tweet last week, independent reporter Sara Carter announced that people from India,

Bangladesh, and Africa are part of the mob headed for the U.S. border.

She made the startling discovery after searching through the throngs of immigrants herself

to see exactly who was making the trek.

Adding to concerns is the fact that a whopping 80 percent of these migrants are grown men

under the age of 35 — don't let the mainstream media fool you into believing that the caravan

is full of women and children.

There are some women and children making the trek, but their numbers pale in comparison

to the able-bodied men on the journey; able-bodied men who are fully capable of holding a job

and making a decent living in their home countries.

Are there dangerous criminals traveling with the migrant caravan headed for the U.S. border?

Yes.

There's no question about it.

Make no mistake, this is a national security emergency.

Inktober So Far · My Process and Theme (The Struggle Has Been Really Real) - Duration: 6:41.

Hi my loves and welcome back.

Long time no see!

It's funny to think how different this month has been for me compared to this time last

year when I was posting a video every single day.

I can't believe how quickly this month has passed without me posting anything!

That wasn't the plan, obviously.

I knew I'd miss maybe a week or so, even this video your watching was recorded a couple

of weeks ago with the intention of having as my 'First Half of Inktober' catch-up

mid-month, and I've only just gotten round to editing it.

I really underestimated just how difficult moving house would be and adjusting to a new

space to live and work in.

A month in now, I'm still nowhere near used to it or settled into a new routine.

But sometimes you just have to bite the bullet, work with what you've got, get on with the

things you need to be getting on with, whether you're comfortable or not.

So that's where we're at today.

I wanted to share my progress so far with Inktober.

Like I was saying, very different to last years.

This one has just been rife with struggle and mistakes and stress and dissatisfaction.

But it's also been a real lesson for me in perseverance and also in taking a risk

in doing things that just aren't going to work, and being able to make those mistakes

and give myself permission to fail, which I've discovered is so much easier when you're

not sharing every step of the way on social media.

So to start out with, I was using colour unlike last year where I really got into playing

with value.

I just wasn't in the mood for the greyscale look but the only coloured inks I had were

the Winsor and Newton ones which I've always had issues with.

Whether it's the ink drying up or evaporating or coming out a totally different colour to

last time I used them.

So this time round, I dug them out to discover that only a few of them were still usable.

It must be to do with how I store them, I've just always found them problematic like that.

The limited colour palette problem turned out to be more of a good thing though as the

colours themselves went really nicely together and had an overall, autumnal look about them.

So I was pretty excited about what I could do with them.

Then, coming up with a theme.

I'm not good at following prompt lists, especially for a daily drawing thing, the

pressure of interpreting a word that might not spark something for me… just doesn't

work.

So I always go with a theme.

It took me so long to come up with something I liked but eventually I settled on antiques,

which I was pretty happy with as an idea.

And again, that and the colours, I had a good idea of what finished product I was looking

for.

In the meantime, I was already a week or so behind and had been able to see other peoples

inktober art.

All of it is amazing and I love seeing the different ways that people are doing things.

It's all so inspiring…

I kind of wanted to do it too, do it all.

The harmony of Kendyll Hillegas' round food drawings, the simplicity and style of Furry

Little Peaches, the detail and pure quality of Audra Auclairs, that amazing contrast and

real celebration of ink in Loish's work.

It was so easy to see all that every day and think, whatever I do isn't gonna be anywhere

near as skilled or even just as stylistically MINE as that.

You start to question your voice, what your contribution will bring to the table.

But I cracked on with it anyway.

And I'm glad I did.

Inktober is just one of those things, since I completed it last year, I feel like it'll

just be an inevitable part of my autumn forever now.

I started with this approach, that you saw in the first drawing which was obviously completely

different, I was basically using these colours like I would watercolours.

And it just didn't work.

Ink has more of a mind of its own, it bleeds and it doesn't layer in the same way I wanted

it to.

The first drawing was okay but it wasn't what I had in mind.

So I changed my approach, adapted to inks needs, and also really tried to celebrate

inks qualities and highlight the beautiful colours I was using.

I initially wanted to outline the pieces with the lovely calligraphy set I got from Caroline,

one of my wonderful viewers, but again, that didn't go to plan.

And strangely, I didn't feel defeated.

I think the difference was that I already knew I wasn't going to be sharing each and

every drawing as it happened.

I was giving myself time to just try stuff, have it not work, try something else, but

keep making and keep finishing things, regardless of how they looked or how they met with my

expectations.

Obviously, going all month without sharing anything on social media wasn't the plan,

and it really isn't good for the health of my social media profiles, but I think it

was good for the health of my art, and my attitude towards it, and that is what matters

most at the end of the day.

I'm not totally satisfied with my inktober drawings.

I wanted to get more outside the box, really explore a different style, and due to things

going wrong, I did fall back into somewhere close to my comfort zone.

But I do always appreciate inktober for coming with lessons, and getting me into good habits.

When I'm settled in to the new place, I'm looking forward to challenging myself more

and finding a better balance with what I make and what I share.

But overall, I'd call this a success.

I think anyone that's drawn anything this month has to celebrate some form of success.

Whether you drew every day or just one day, or even if you didn't take part in inktober

at all, just did your own thing.

The importance of any challenge is catering it to you in a way where you'll actually

come out of it having tested yourself and in doing that, improving, maybe not in an

obvious way, just a little step in the right direction.

Anyway, this is what happens when I don't get to talk to you guys for a while.

I say all the things at once.

The footage for this video was a bit all over the place as the folders on my computer have

been a bit jumbled with the footage sitting around for so long, but I'll have a video

in a few days time about what I plan to do with the finished drawings where hopefully

you'll get to see them all.

I wanted to put them together into one big poster, just for me, not to sell, just to

keep them all in one place and be that physical representation of my second Inktober, completed

in full.

Let me know how you guys have been getting on.

I always love hearing your variations on different challenges, so if you've been doing something

different this month, I'd love to know more about it.

Thanks so much for watching and I'll see you soon for the next video.

Bye!

It's looking a bit, in his words, gnarly.

- [Elayna] Really?

(laughing)

- [Steve] If you put three glasses of water,

lets say one salt water,

one municipal fresh water

and one RO water--

- [Riley] And municipal fresh water

is just fresh water from any cistern in the world?

- [Steve] Correct.

From any dock side water that you get

or any city water that might--

because the city treats it,

so the membranes,

if you're talking about the three glasses of water,

in about three days, salt water,

with the bacterial activity,

is going to be bubbling and have growth in it.

The fresh water municipal,

because it still has dead bodies in it,

even though they are killed,

will reactivate with light after about two weeks

and the bacterial activity will begin

to bubble up and get nasty in there.

The RO water is different,

because the RO water,

only saline goes through the membrane pores.

Calciums don't go through,

sulfites don't go through,

bacteria does not go through.

- [Riley] The most sterile, I guess,

of all of the waters is the RO water.

- Is the RO water in your tank,

and that would be because it doesn't

have the dead bodies.

- [Riley] Yeah.

- So it won't reactivate.

You won't be introducing bacteria into your system

by using RO water.

- [Riley] Amazing.

- And, it's wonderful, yeah,

if you can keep your tank sterile.

So there's obviously going to be

a little bit of bacteria

because your tank is not sterile,

but for the most part,

this removes the dead bodies,

so you'll have water without any dead bodies.

- [Riley] And so, having looked at our system,

all I've gotta to do is

just replace my water filter here?

- Correct.

- [Riley] Beautiful.

- And you're looking real good.

- [Riley] Thanks for having a look at that for me, man.

- Not at all,

and the system's looking real good, real clean.

Judge Says Georgia Can't Throw Out Absentee Ballot, So They "Go Missing" Instead - Duration: 3:18.

The voter suppression taking place in the state of Georgia doesn't look like it's coming

to an end any time soon, even though last week a judge ruled that the state had to stop

throwing out ballots, specifically absentee and vote by mail ballots, if the signatures

were not a direct match.

They could not throw those ballots out.

They had to count them.

State election officials actually being run by Brian Kemp, the Republican running for

governor who benefits from all this voter suppression, they decided to go a different

route then.

If we can't throw them out ... if we have to count them, then we're just going to conveniently

lose them.

That is exactly what's happened in Georgia right now.

Thousands of absentee and vote by mail ballots have now, according to state election officials

in Georgia, gone missing.

They don't know where they are.

Now, Brian Kemp's office, secretary of state, the guy in charge of the elections, they guy

who's been running these voter purges, says that, "No, we don't know of any that are missing.

That's ... I don't know where that came from."

Even though the state government is already said, "Yeah, there's several thousand missing

and we don't know where they are."

Now, we're getting conflicting stories from the state and from Brian Kemp, the guy that's

going to benefit from it.

Oh, and to make things worse, the majority of these ballots that have now gone missing

... they belong to African Americans.

Not only is this just your run of the mill voter purge, it's also a highly racist voter

purge, because Brian Kemp happens to be running against an African American woman who's running

for Democrat governor, Stacey Abrams.

He knows that these African Americans are gonna turn out and vote for her.

He's got to kick them off the voting roles.

What they had been doing, was that if the signature on their voter registration form

did not directly and exactly match the signature on their ballot, they would throw it out.

Last week, judge said, "No, you can't do that.

You don't even have actual handwriting experts looking at the signatures to determine if

they were written by the same person.

It's just people in your office holding the two up and saying, 'No, he dotted the i differently

on this one, so, I can throw it away.'"

That's what was happening in the state of Georgia, just random idiots working in Brian

Kemp's office, being in charge of deciding who gets to vote and who doesn't.

Shocking surprise, most of the people who don't get to vote are African Americans now.

Now that they've been ordered to preserve those ballots and actually count them, they've

just gone missing.

We don't know where they are.

We don't know if they're gonna turn up before the final votes come in next Tuesday.

We don't know.

All we do know, is that this voter suppression that's been carried out by Brian Kemp over

the last two years, was a calculated effort on behalf of Kemp himself to make sure that

he did everything possible to cheat his way into the governorship of the state of Georgia.

What Makes Stop Motion So Creepy? | Traven Talks - Duration: 12:53.

Stop Motion is simultaneously one of the most spectacular and, most, terrifying, forms of animation

It's had a long history in film, with 1897's "The Humpty Dumpty Circus" being the first

piece of Stop Motion ever created, but which has sadly been lost to time.

Since then, Stop Motion has slowly become a staple of entertainment, beginning as a

gimmick for aspiring artists to play around with, transitioning into a special effects

tool that stitched together smooth and lifelike stop motion animation with live action footage

to stun audiences, and eventually being molded into an artform all of its own for artists

and creatives to explore, such as Nick Park, creator of the "Wallace & Gromit" series,

who's work in Aardman Animations has gotten him 6 Academy Awards nominations, 4 of which

he won, and who, alongside Peter Lord, directed "Chicken Run", currently the highest grossing

stop motion animated film of all time

Wallace: Blast.

It's a medium that's always tempted artists to try their hand and see what they can do

with this tactile trade, and while it has its benefits, it also has its challenges.

Like all forms of animation, it's incredibly tedious, delicate and time consuming work.

Animator: Then I come up, go into the eyes, bring them around . . . a tiny amount . . . a tiny amount . . .

Host: Anyone fancy a pint?

But when compared to 2D or 3D, which require an extensive knowledge of specific kinds of

programmes, or, well, the ability to draw, the bar to entry for Stop Motion seems rather low.

Or at least, that's how it seems to me.

All you need is a camera, a basic editing software and something to animate.

And with the increasing ease of access we have to sites and platforms that allow us

to learn these crafts, share our creations and connect with like minded creators, it's

no surprise that Stop Motion has boomed online, with people using pretty much anything they

can get their hands on to create something fantastic.

Cop: This better be something important, chief!

Hey HEY HEY WHERE'D YOU FIND THAT!

However, unlike 2D or 3D, there's no safety net.

You don't have any keyframes to guide the animation, no eraser or crtl+z to undo a mistake,

and if you do mess up somehow, either by positioning a model wrong or, god forbid, knocking something

over, you have to start all over again.

To quote Travis Knight, Lead Animator for many of Laika Studios' films, "because

you effectively get one opportunity to get it right, every shot is a high wire act".

It's a problem that's made worse by the amount of strings that need to be pulled to

put together each frame of these films, whether it be the at times hundreds of animators,

designers and builders working round the clock behind the scenes or the thousands of painfully

slow moving pieces that go into bringing each puppet and set to life at a snail's pace.

These productions are massive undertakings that for many are a daunting commitment.

None of this is helped by Stop Motion's rather, off putting, aesthetic.

I'm not the first to notice that Stop Motion can be kinda creepy.

In fact, many creators working with it seemed to have realized this a while ago, given the

amount of dark or horror themed films and shorts that go out of their way to exploit

this aspect of the medium rather than shy away from it.

And, I guess it shouldn't be much of a surprise, given that one of the earliest Stop Motion

hits came from someone animating dead beetles with wire legs because live ones were too

difficult to work with.

There's just something about the movements that seems so mechanical.

Something about the textures that makes your skin crawl.

Something about the designs that just doesn't seem right.

It all feels so weird, so eerie, so, uncanny, and it's in that valley that I think the

heart of this issue lies.

The Uncanny Valley, as we know it today, is a concept that was outlined in 1970 by Masahiro

Mori, a Japanese roboticist, in an essay called "Bukimi No Tani", and originally published

in a japanese journal called "Energy".

Mori proposes the idea that the more human-like a machine's design is, the more positively

we will respond to it, until it becomes almost human, but not quite, at which point the subtle

imperfections in the machine's appearance will make it seem eerie or even repulsive,

a feeling that is amplified when movement is involved.

But once the design and motion appears perfectly human, we will react positively to it again.

That dip into negativity is what has become known as the "Uncanny Valley".

In the essay, Mori argues that when designing humanlike machines, it's best to aim for

something that would fall around or before that first peak.

Though it initially garnered little attention, with the rapid development of robotics technology

and computer generated imagery, the Uncanny Valley has quickly become a prominent idea

in mainstream culture.

There's been a lot of discussion and debate surrounding it, especially in the scientific

community, about what causes it, how one's exposure to these sorts of technologies or

lack thereof can affect one's experience with it, what conditions are necessary to

cause it, or if it even exists at all, but recent findings show that the Uncanny Valley

may be a result of a "perceptual mismatch".

We start to develop these feelings toward something when it is given attributes we don't

expect to see, such as a cartoon character with oddly realistic eyes, or a realistic

3D model moving in very mechanical ways.

The Uncanny Valley is a result of us being uncomfortable with seeing things looking and

acting in ways we think they shouldn't be, a feeling that becomes more intense the more

familiar we are with the subject in question, such as, well, ourselves.

For truly, who else could we be more familiar with?

With the increasing awareness of the concept, more and more people have jumped in to have

their say on it, including those with criticisms of the idea and the debate surrounding it.

The original essay wasn't properly translated into english until 2012, and so most of the

discussion up to that point was based on imprecise or even incorrect

wording, including the use of the word "Uncanny".

The essay itself is quite broad and anecdotal, and so it's been difficult to research properly.

Though, that may be the point, given that, as Mori pointed out in an interview following

the release of the official translation, it "was more a piece of advice from me (Mori)

to people who design robots rather than a scientific statement".

There's also a problematic implication that comes with it, that anyone who looks or acts

or moves out of the norm could be considered inherently uncanny, something that's especially

concerning for those with neurological or motor issues, for whom such things are usually

out of their control.

Not to mention the trend of people using it as a be all end all explanation for anything

that's scary or creepy or weird without digging any deeper into the things they're

talking about to see if there are any other explanations . . .

*cough cough*

But it's this phenomenon that I think perfectly describes why Stop Motion is hard to watch

for some.

It blends together elements of animation and live action in ways that are simply unnerving.

Firstly, there's the nightmare situation that comes with watching dolls move on their own.

Chucky: Hi, I'm Chucky, wanna play?

As Henry Selick, director of The Nightmare Before Christmas & Coraline, puts it: "Stop-motion

can bring anything to life, including dead-looking things and broken things.

There's something about its twitchy motion that, combined with the right design and lighting,

can really raise the hairs on one's neck."

There's a certain dread that comes from seeing these inanimate things brought to life,

that makes us question what it means to be alive, to be conscious, to be human, and whether

the only difference between us and these manufactured models is just the materials that stitch us

together.

The models and puppets made for many Stop Motion works are usually the kinds of cartoony

caricatures that'd fit right at home in 2D or 3D, but they often look odd when brought

into reality.

In "FOXED", a stop motion short about a young girl kidnapped by, well, foxes, the

models well and truly feel like dolls, with big heads sitting on thin bodies with wide

eyes and tiny mouths that are just, expressionless, having the sort of dead eyed look that cuts

right through the screen.

This is especially clear with the human models, which feel too coarse and gritty to be dolls,

but also too shiny and smooth to be people.

Ironically, the foxes, which expressly lean on a more unrealistic design, end up feeling

more natural.

And, for as much as I love the "Wallace and Gromit" series, their claymation forms

are, kinda terrifying.

They also suffer from that dead eyed glare, and their cartoony designs have a level of

detail to their textures that makes their exaggerated features uncomfortable to watch.

Especially Gromit's.

No offence, buddy.

The caricature like designs used for animation can often become grotesque when given the

physical depth and detail inherent to Stop Motion.

This is amplified by the movements of these puppets and models.

The type of motion we accept in other forms of animation are given an odd sense of unreality

in Stop Motion, as the level of abstraction that comes from watching drawings or polygons

move is lost when watching what we know to be real objects do so.

In "Cat with the Hands", an old man tells a young man the story of a cat that steals

human body parts so that it can become human.

Aside from the cat's horrifying design, the scariest part of this short comes from

the movements of the animated section, whether it be the impossibly smooth way the cat licks

its hands or catches a bird, or the jumpy movements it exhibits as it feasts on its

prey.

The way it moves is unnatural.

Similarly, in "Sandman", we watch a young boy on his way to bed preyed upon by the titular

Sandman.

Whilst the movements of the boy and the mother are a touch jerky and imprecise, the Sandman's

seem almost too perfect by comparison, and it gives his character an otherworldly feeling

that magnifies the danger he poses to the boy, who's blissfully unaware of the monster

looming in the shadows.

Even Anomalisa uses these quirks to highlight the distress that it's main character, Michael,

goes through in his day to day life, as, due to severe mental troubles, he begins to question

the reality of the world he lives in.

The quirks of movement in animation, whether they be the jumpy aesthetic of its frame by

frame nature or the impossibly smooth finish of digitally composed works, becomes unnatural

when used to animate physical things.

In a sense, Stop Motion falls into an Uncanny Valley of its own between animation and live

action, containing elements of both that mix in such a way that is, well, uncanny.

It's stuck with a foot in both worlds and a place in neither.

And that's, not a bad thing.

In fact, it's what makes it so unique as a medium.

Most Stop Motion films revel in this valley, either by, as mentioned before, exploiting

that inherent creep factor to amplify the feelings of dread and disgust they want to draw

out of you, or by using it to give their work a distinct visual flair that stands out from

the more clean cut productions we're accustomed to.

"The Nightmare Before Christmas" combines a dark and gothic style with the unnatural

movements and oddly grotesque designs and tactility of Stop Motion to make its world

of horror feel strikingly and ironically vibrant.

Meanwhile, "Fantastic Mr. Fox" gives this adaptation of the classic children's book

by Roald Dahl a gorgeous golden glow.

Fox: Maybe it's the lighting.

The odd, jerky movements of the puppets' animation serve to emphasize the strong rustic

quality to the movie's tone, as if it's all come out of an old toy box, and when seen

through some obsessively symmetrical framing, it gives the film the whimsical atmosphere

of an old storybook, which, all things considered, is pretty fitting.

The aesthetic of Stop Motion compliments and even strengthens the style of the works that

use it.

In that same vein, Stop Motion's place as both live action and animation lets it blur

the line between the two.

"Kubo & The Two Strings" is an enthralling adventure riddled with supernatural threats

whose incredible imagery and animation only emphasizes its emotional impact.

But for as fantastical an experience as it may be, it's always grounded for me by the

realization that almost everything in it has been made by someone.

From each and every hair on each of the character's heads to the 20 ft tall model they built for

that damned skeleton, nearly every detail was handmade, and it's honestly just amazing

to realize how much time and effort went into building it all from the ground up.

It gives this mythical world a sense of reality.

And "Anomalisa", for as painfully mundane as it's premise may seem, expertly uses

its medium to give it a dreamlike atmosphere, from the bright, warm lights reflecting off

of the soft, smooth textures of everything in the film, to the surreal and at times nightmarish

twists we see through Michael's eyes, which all melds together into something that's

easy to lose yourself in.

"The screens I've gone to

and the people I've had the opportunity to talk to, that have never, haven't worked

on this project, they were, uh, for a while they forgot they were watching puppets, and...

it's, you know, it's humbling to be a part of that."

Stop Motion blends together fantasy and reality in such a way that no other medium can.

What makes Stop Motion creepy, is also what makes it so amazing.

And yeah, those are my thoughts.

I'm coming back to make videos again!

Also, sorry if you hear weird thumping noises, my neighbour's just doing construction outside, it's, a whole thing.

I've decided to focus more so on monthly longish-form video essays talking about basically

whatever.

For as fun as those short, weekly videos are to make, I want to focus on and give myself

the time to create stuff that I think is worth making and actually has something to say,

beyond "hey, I like this thing because x/y/z", though I do have an idea for a series that

would still continue that kinda format, but still.

Anyway, let me know what yous think, if yous agree, disagree, how yous feel about stop

Selena Gomez's Comments About Trump's Family Separation Policy Are So Emotional - Duration: 5:03.

On June 30th

Selena Gomez attended the Hotel, Transylvania

3 summer vacation premiere in Los Angeles, California to promote her upcoming film

However, the night wasn't all fun and games for the movie star because Selena Gomez's comments about Trump's family's

Operation policy proves that she hasn't forgotten about today's political issues you go Selena

During the movie premiere Gomez revealed that trumps family

Separation policy has affected many people around her. It's extremely disheartening

Gomez said there's a lot of confusion and anger

It's definitely been affecting so many people who are close to me

The recent crisis of separating immigrant children from their families at the border has resulted in two public

Organizing protests to fight against the Trump administration's zero-tolerance

immigration policy since these protests broke out a number of celebrities

Gomez, included to have spoken in favor of the fight to end this separation on June 29th Gomez tweeted

In support of the keep families together marches that took place on June 30th

She wrote

Families seeking safety in our country need protection

Understanding and opportunity not detention. This is a moral choice. Not a political one

I don't know about y'all, but there's seriously nothing. I love more than celebrities speaking out on the issues

Following the complete backlash in response to Trump's family separation policy

Donald Trump signed an executive order on June 20th, that would stop this crisis

However, there's still a number of problems that need to be addressed

Even with the new order on June 29th

Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced that they plan to detain families together and hold them in detention centers

Indefinitely or up until their immigration cases to test Trump's family policy

Individuals all over the nation gathered together on June 30th in honor of the families belong together, March the families belong together

FBT

coalition one of the key nonprofits who spearheaded this march

discussed on their website how this crisis is still not over even with the executive order signing the coalition said

Were rallying in Washington DC and around the country to tell Donald Trump and his administration

to permanently end the separation of kids from their parents and

family internment camps and the zero humanity policy that created this crisis and

Reunify the children with their parents

from Washington DC to Los Angeles

California people from all over the nation marched together to fight against Donald Trump's separation policy

Even though this activism is coming from unfortunate circumstances

It's still so inspiring to see the passion. These concerned individuals have for the injustice as immigrant families are currently facing

Despite Trump's claim that the executive lurid well keep families together and BC news reported on June

27th that the Department of Homeland Security DHS is reportedly asking for more military space to house detainees

according to NBC News

DHS asked to the Department of Defense DoD for space that would care for a family population of up to

12,000 people also nearly 2,000 of those families would require housing within 45 days

Elite daily reached out to DHS for comment at the time, but did not hear back

Clearly this border crisis isn't going anywhere but rest assured that

activists and other concern individuals will be fighting against the Trump administration in any way they can

Not everyone can take part and weekend marches to protest witnessed and justices

But that won't stop people from calling out Trump staffers wherever they can on June 22nd White House

Press secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders was eating at red hen restaurant in Lexington, Virginia, but was asked by the owner

phanie wilkinson to leave the establishment

in fact

Sanders is just one of a few White House staffers that has been openly haggled while eating out in public such as

Department of Homeland Security Secretary

Christian Nielsen and Trump senior adviser Stephen Miller

I might not have been able to see this public outcry go down

But this is kind of what I imagined it to resemble whether it's during a protest march or at a movie premiere

It's so inspiring to see so many people standing up for these families. I hope the fight never stops
