Can Malar Mounds and Eyelid Festoons be treated?
Welcome to Dr. Scheiner's Medical Minute.
When we see one another our brains scan the other person's face for nonverbal facial
cues.
We tend to focus on the eye and mouth region for these cues.
When we see heavy upper or lower lids and malar mounds or eyelid festoons, we tend to
interpret that person as being tired, sick and sometimes drunk.
Malar mounds and Eyelid festoons have been traditionally very difficult conditions to
correct.
And when lower eyelid surgery is performed without correcting the festoons and malar
mounds, it often looks worse afterwards.
This is because we expect heavy lower lids to accompany eyelid festoons and malar mounds
and when only one of these conditions is corrected, these festoons and malar mounds are accentuated
and made to stand out in contrast.
The best option is to correct the festoons, malar mounds and lower lid bags at the same
time.
This gives the most beautiful and natural result.
What are the options for treating Malar Mounds and Eyelid festoons?
Some options include attempting to stretch them out by making a incision above them and
pulling upwards.
This has had mild and often disappointing results.
Another option is to cut out the festoon and malar mounds, but this leaves a visible scar
on this focal area of the face.
Some have tried to put fillers around the festoon and malar mounds to blend the edges
and make it less noticeable but this tends to fix the festoons and malar mounds in a
swollen mound when the desire should be to flatten these instead.
My preferred option for dramatically improving eyelid festoons and malar mounds involves
using lasers to tighten them from the outside in.
This causes these mounds and festoons to flatten into the surrounding contour.
Although this involves some recovery associated with healing, my patients prefer the results
and don't mind spending time to get the results they seek.

Dogs Can Sense When A Human Is Being Mean To Another Human - Duration: 2:45.
Study Says Dogs Can Identify Mean People We all know that dogs have super keen senses
that surpass the abilities of humans.
They can sniff out bombs, alert us to intruders, and have the ability to turn us into piles
of loving mush.
But one study says that dogs can even recognize whether or not a human is being a jerk.
A study published in the journal Neuroscience and Biobehavioural Reviews says that dogs
can sense when a human is being mean to another human.And they use this information to decide
how they're going to respond to someone.
"Dogs are known to consistently follow human pointing gestures.
In this study, we asked whether dogs 'automatically' do this or whether they flexibly adjust their
behavior depending upon the reliability of the pointer, demonstrated in an immediately
preceding event," the study says.Researchers had dog owners act out different scenarios:
one where a volunteer helped someone struggling to open a jar, one where the volunteer was
passive, and another where one flat out refused to help.
At the end of the scenarios, the volunteers gave the dog a treat.
The study found that the dogs were just as likely to take the treat from the person who
was passive as they were to take it from the person that helped their owner open the jar.
They were, however, more likely to take the treat from the volunteer who was nice and
offered to help their owner open the jar.But the dogs were significantly more likely to
ignore the volunteer who was mean and refused to help their owner open the jar.
The study found that dogs are more likely not to trust those who are jerks.
And that says a lot especially when treats are at stake.
This means that they are capable of judging human behavior."These results suggest that
not only dogs are highly skilled at understanding human pointing gestures, but also they make
inferences about the reliability of a human who presents cues and consequently modify
their behavior flexibly depending on the inference," the study says.
So, if your dog is staring at you like they're judging you, they probably are.
You might want to start watching what you say around your dogs and not just the children.
You can also watch your dog's behavior around people that you're iffy about.We've all
heard that dogs can sense danger, but apparently, they can also sense whether or not you're
an asshole.
And if a dog thinks you're a jerk, you probably are… a big one.

Today, I'm going to talk about gratitude, one of the most important emotions to being
Nappy Now.
Today is a special day for me.
It's my last day of active duty in an almost eight year Air Force career.
Today I put on my uniform for the last time.
If you've watched my Biography video, you know that joining the military was the last
thing I thought I would ever do after studying film and television.
Since then, after deploying 634 days, flying 1,359 hours, 144 flights including 62 Higher
Headquarters missions, I have so much to be grateful for.
For how this experience has shaped my character and my life.
I'm grateful I came back in one piece.
Every single one of those 144 flights I was scared to death, especially in those last
few flights.
Every noise, every bit of turbulence, every threat, real or perceived my heart would race
and I would pray, "God, please, please let me live.
There's so much I want to do, there's so much I want to achieve.
Please let me do my job and help these pilots land safely—one more time, please just one
more time."
In those last few missions I was so afraid to die because I was so excited to live.
Those missions were 12 to 20 hours long where my colleagues kept me awake hour after interminable
hour.
That doesn't include the many sleepless hours before and after, and the progressive
lack of sleep for days, for weeks.
Sometimes you want to give up, you're so exhausted you can barely keep your eyes open.
You're so frustrated with the bureaucracy.
It's like fighting quicksand to try to make a difference.
There are things you see, no one should ever have to see.
There are sacrifices you make that cost you your health and your relationships, but through
it all your faith never shakes.
No matter what, you never give up because you have a duty to this nation.
Because you made a commitment to protect freedom, because what to do matters beyond your exhaustion,
your frustration, and your fear.
Because you're grateful you're still here.
If you've watched my Intro video you know that I was searching for happiness for a long
time.
When I found it, I realized there was something I was feeling all the time, and that was gratitude.
I've always been a glass half-full kind of person, able to see the big picture and
usually grateful, but suddenly I was thanking God repeatedly, several times a day for everything.
I wanted to know what the connection between gratitude and happiness was.
I talked to two different therapists but they didn't illuminate me with any new information
beyond what I was already feeling.
No one has written a comprehensive book on the subject of gratitude that I know.
Finally, I found several journal articles in Psychology that outlined the psychological,
social and physiological benefits of gratitude.
People who engage in practicing gratitude are happier, healthier and more optimistic
about the future.
They don't focus on the deficient and negative aspects of their lives.
They are able to appreciate and be grateful about their current circumstances.
Gratitude strengthens social bonds and friendships, allowing people to feel more loved.
It also neutralizes negative emotions and helps us to adapt to and cope with the different
challenges of life.
So what if you're the kind of person who sees life as a glass half-empty, not used
to being grateful regularly, not raised to see the big picture.
Gratitude is an emotion we can train ourselves to feel.
For some it may be easier than for others.
But it is possible for everyone to cultivate gratitude consistently.
I talk about how to create new positive neural pathways and how to rewire our brains in detail
in my Therapy video.
But a simple exercise we can do to train ourselves to be more grateful is to write down every
morning or every night, or both, several things we're grateful for.
And then express and share our gratitude—with a stranger who may be kind to us and with
the people in our lives with whom we share our deepest relationships.
The more we reflect on the things we're grateful for, the more it will become a habit,
and come naturally to us.
I have so much to be grateful for.
Every day I get to live is another day I get to be happy and make a difference in the world.
I'm grateful to have worn the uniform until today.
To have been able to give back to a country I love.
It has been an honor to serve, and I want to thank the extraordinary men and women I
have trained with, worked with, and flown with.
You have been some of the most dedicated and hardworking people I have ever met.
Every day you put your needs and the needs of your families aside for the safety of
this nation, and you do whatever it takes to get the mission done.
Thank you for allowing me to serve with you.
To all those who have served—it's because of you that this nation stands strong and
proud, a beacon of freedom.
It's because of you that I get to stand here today.

How can we solve the cost of living crisis? - Duration: 2:33.
More people are in work, and wages are going up in line withinflation.
So why do so many in Britain, especially on lower salaries, feel so broke?
We don't live in a low wage economy, we live in a high cost of living economy.
And nearly everything is made moreexpensive by government intervention.
If you're working, the government takes a huge chunk of your paycheck through income
tax and national insurance, as well as Council Tax which for many of us is the largest monthly
bill after utilities.
Nearly everything you buy - from clothes, to shoes, to furniture - is taxed at 20% through
VAT.
Your weekly food shop is made more expensive by the EU's food tariffs, and the newly
introduced sugar tax.
Then, if you drive to work, about 70% of the cost of the fuel for your car is taxed and
goes straight to the government.
If you want to heat your home, green taxes make your energy bill about £100 more expensive
per year.
If you want to join your friends for a drink at the pub on a Friday night - guess what.
That's taxed too.
Most us don't need or want a hand out - we just need the government to take less away
from us.
The government can afford to cut taxes - but it needs to cut down on wasteful spending.
Last year, the government spent £29,000 per household.
That's a huge amount of money, and it's not all being spent well.
Of the money that you give to the government, only 43% of that goes towards Health, Education,
Policing and Defence.
As a proportion of spending, that number seems rather low to me, especially when we see that
so much is wasted on government administration and bureaucracy, foreign aid, HS2 and contribution
fees to the EU.
As taxpayers we should be demanding for our money to be spent more effectively, and for
the government to take less away from families and businesses.
By cutting taxes, the government would essentially give the entire country a pay-rise.
The next time you look at your bank account at the end of the month, and feel the pinch
of the cost of living, just think of how much more you would have if the government took
less away from you and wasted less of your money.

There are restaurants all across the country that serve this dish, but THE BEST all you
can eat shabu shabu restaurant in Japan is at 'Kin No Buta'; The Golden Pig.
For about $35 per person, there are so many options that you can choose from.
When you come to this restaurant, the first thing you have to do is choose what kind of
course you want.
There are two kinds: there's the pork course and the beef course.
After that, you choose what kind of soups you want.
There are about 8 different kinds of soups, and you can choose two of them.
We got the flavorful oxtail and garlic soup, and we also got a simpler konbu broth.
After that, you choose what cuts of meats you want, and what kinds of vegetables you
want.
There are so many options to choose from!
After you place your order, the staff comes out and bring all this food.
These vegetables, and these meats.
They put this pot on your table and they fill it with the two different broths.
And when it comes to a boil, you add your vegetables and your meat into that broth,
let it cook up, and it's ready to eat!
We had a ton of different meats brought to our table.
Pork belly, thinly-sliced pork chops, pork meat balls.
We also had a lot of vegetables: napa cabbage, a variety of Japanese mushrooms, thinly sliced
green onions.
Here we have the beef tail and garlic, and there's these beautiful chunks of meatball,
and that nice slice of pork with that fat, just running right through it.
Some thinly-sliced vegetables.
WOW!
That is just like a flavor explosion in the mouth!
That is so good!
That soup is so rich, and salty, and savory; a little sweet, garlicky...
And this, this pork, this ground up pork...
It just bursts with juice and flavor in your mouth!
Woah!
Mmm!
It's so flavorful!
That's the only way I can explain it!
It's just so, incredibly flavorful!
Not only can you order a ton of different things for your hotpot, but there are so many
other sides.
We got a salad that was tossed right at our table.
The vegetables were fresh and crisp.
And there was just a big mound of cheese grated right on top of it.
I also ordered a golden brown, fried tonkatsu.
Crispy and crunchy on the outside, nice and juicy and fatty on the inside.
Now let's go ahead and see how this tastes.
Dipped it in a bit of that tonkatsu sauce...
That outside coating is so thick and crunchy!
That's really really good for a place that sells hot pot!
One of the more interesting dishes that they had was this Thai noodle salad.
It was rice noodles that were tossed with some Thai flavors.
I don't know exactly what was in there, but it was salty, sweet, savory, sour; it was
really really delicious and really refreshing on a hot summer day.
It's sweet, sour, salty, spicy...
Really really savory.
I think we're gonna have to order three more of these!
And one of the really cool dishes that we ordered was 'Taki Komi Gohan', which is bamboo
shoots, and chicken, and other vegetables, that's cooked with rice.
But, the rice is cooked right at your table!
There's actually rice here that's being steamed.
And if you look underneath, you can see that there's a flame, there's a little flame there
and it's cooking this rice, fresh, right on our table!
It took about twenty minutes or so, but it was so cool to have fresh, hot rice cooked
right at your table!
Oooh, that's nice!
The natural flavors of the ingredients come into that rice.
And I think they also use a bit of stock as the liquid for the rice.
But the rice is perfectly cooked, soft and tender, the mushrooms, the vegetables are
perfectly softened.
Mmmm!
The thing that really surprised me about this restaurant is that there were so many options,
but everything was delicious!
The ingredients were fresh, they were high-quality, and the flavor was just perfect!
And because this is an all-you-can-eat restaurant, you can order as much nabe as you want.
You can get as much meat and vegetables as you want.
You can order as many of the side items as you want.
You want to eat ten of those little tonkatsus?
You can do that!
You can order as much of that taki komi gohan as you want!
It's all endless!
And finally, the dessert menu is AMAZING!

We've got a fruit-filled crepe here, and it's just so beautiful and perfectly made.
Served with a side of ice cream...
You can see, it's just filled with cream all the way through.
The cream inside is nice and light.

The tartness of these berries just cut right through the rich, sweetness of the ice cream
and that cream inside.

both had been cured to the same extent because the placebo group believed I

the attitude will give you the experience of joy or a misery, it will

that I am competent I am teaching special children your attitude changed
the performance. Tests have been done 3,000 executives were asked to tick off
the reason why they dismissed their last three employees, various options 17% were
dismissed because they were corrupt another 18% were dismissed because of
interpersonal problems another 19% were dismissed because they
were disobedient and about 28% were dismissed because of lack of skills so
the conclusion was that only 28% of the employees lacked skills which made them
get dismissed and in the case of all the others it was
the attitude. So our inner attitude is so important.

YOU HAVE FAITH GIVEN TO YOU AS A GIFT FROM GOD,
BUT YOU GOT TO RELEASE IT.
AND YOU GOT TO RELEASE IT BY TAKING GOD-INSPIRED ACTION,
BY PRAYING GOD-INSPIRED PRAYERS, AND BY SAYING THINGS THAT AGREE
WITH GOD'S WORD.
SO, WHEN DOUBT COMES, THE WAY YOU FIGHT DOUBT

NOTHING HAPPENED ACCORDING TO THE TIMETABLE

PART OF IT WAS HIS OWN FAULT BECAUSE HE GOT IN THE FLESH,
AND SINCE GOD WASN'T MOVING FAST ENOUGH, HE--HIM AND SARAH
CONCOCTED A PLAN OF THEIR OWN, AND I THINK THAT JUST PUT OFF
GOD'S ANSWER.
"[ALL HUMAN REASON FOR] HOPE BEING GONE, HE HOPED ON IN FAITH

AND YET, THEY HAD A PROMISE FROM GOD THAT THEY
WERE GOING TO HAVE A CHILD AND THAT HE WOULD BE THE FATHER
OF MANY NATIONS.
"HE DIDN'T WEAKEN IN FAITH WHEN HE CONSIDERED
THE [UTTER] IMPOTENCE OF HIS OWN BODY, WHICH WAS
AS GOOD AS DEAD BECAUSE HE WAS ABOUT A HUNDRED YEARS OLD,
