Women honor Rashida Tlaib by wearing Palestinian gowns as she is sworn into Congress CNN - Duration: 2:49.

Women honor Rashida Tlaib by wearing Palestinian gowns as she is sworn into Congress CNN

on Thursday became the first Palestinian American woman to be sworn in to Congress. Weeks ago, she announced she would to the ceremony and she kept her word.

A thobe is a hand embroidered gown that comes in a range of designs and colors, and often signifies the village from where the wearer hails. Most Palestinian women have at least one of these special dresses in their closets, and wearing one is seen as a show of pride for their culture and heritage.

Women and girls wore their thobes as part of a social media campaign to honor the Michigan Democrat. Some posted photos on Twitter and Instagram with , while others traveled to the Capitol to greet Tlaib in their gowns.

"It was a very proud day for me and for all Palestinian people, especially proud for Palestinian girls and women," said Alice Muaddi, who traveled from New Jersey to Washington to greet Tlaib in her thobe. Muaddi emigrated from a Palestinian village to the United States in the 1960s.

Tlaib, whose parents are also Palestinian immigrants, filled the seat formerly occupied by Democratic Rep. John Conyers, who left office last year amid accusations of sexual misconduct. She ran unopposed in the general election after her August primary win in Michigans 13th Congressional District.

"I have been in the USA for 52 years and today I felt that her win is for every Palestinian American girl and woman. She is an inspiration and a role model to all of us," Muaddi said.

A solidarity movement is born on social media

When Tlaib shared that she would be wearing a thobe to the ceremony, Susan Muaddi Darraj was delighted. Yet some people on social media werent so kind, saying wearing the dress would be un American.

The professor and novelist from Maryland created the TweetYourThobe hashtag on social media, asking people to share photos of themselves in the traditional garment. She wanted to do something to educate people, while also celebrating Tlaibs achievement, she said.

"Palestinian American women all have these thobes. They are given to us by our mothers and are often handed down through families," Muaddi Darraj explained. "They are worn to very special occasions, weddings, baptisms and graduations, so its very appropriate shes wearing this dress, which her mother gave her, to her swearing in."

Tlaib wearing her thobe sends a message, said Muaddi Darraj, a first generation Palestinian American. Alice Muaddi, the woman who traveled to the Capitol to meet Tlaib, is her mother.

"She is wearing it because her mother made that dress for her. That dress is like her way of attesting to her mothers hard work and love. I respect her so much for wearing it," she said.

When Muaddi Darraj saw all the images of girls and women, and even entire families of women, sharing their photos, she said she was overwhelmed.

"They are handmade, and it can take months to make one of these dresses. To see these women showing these off in a moment of pride and celebration, Im excited and inspired by it," Muaddi Darraj said.

"Our culture gets misrepresented so often. Portraying our culture in this authentic manner is so important to me," she said.

Women who said they arent Palestinian also posted messages of support, some wearing thobes as well, which touched Muaddi Darraj.

Women of Palestinian heritage dressed to support her

Renad Uri is a Palestinian American who lives in Ramallah, West Bank. She shared a photo of her and her niece wearing their thobes in support of Tlaib. Uri worked on Capitol Hill for two years and for her, Tlaib joining Congress is significant.

"Ive been shut down by staffers for being Palestinian and for being a woman. Its amazing for me to now have Tlaibs concrete role that no one can put down or kick out of their offices," she said. Uri interned with a lobbying organization on Capitol Hill and recently graduated from college.

"Its so gratifying to see someone thats a woman and a Palestinian loving our culture and heritage, making sure that everyone sees it and feels it," the 22 year old said.

Zaha Hassan got to meet Tlaib on the steps of the Capitol on Thursday. And bonus, Bernie Sanders was there.

Hassan dressed in her thobe and to greet and welcome her to Washington. Other women did the same, showing up in their familys thobes. Some traveled from cities across the country.

"Im very proud to have a Palestinian American representative from Michigan in Washington. Its been very difficult for Palestinians to engage in the political process," said Hassan, who is a fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.

"Its remarkable, historic and gives us hope that Palestinian Americans can be part of the fabric of this democracy and participating on equal footing with the rest of the citizens in this country," the 49 year old said.

Having a Palestinian American in Congress signals change, but this moment is about more than that, says the social media movements creator Muaddi Darraj. She said shes thrilled Native American women and other women of diverse backgrounds have also been elected to office.

"This is a very American moment," she said. "We have a Congress that finally looks like our country and thats incredibly thrilling to me. Its about time."

Klopp explodes as Liverpool feel heat against title rivals Man City - Duration: 5:44.

Thinking clearly under pressure: it's the thing that usually separates the great from the good, the ability to act normal in abnormal situations

All through this week, pressure has been the word thrown at Liverpool. Can they handle it? Will it get to them? Pep Guardiola clearly feels it will

Before the collision dubbed Champions versus Challengers, he explained how hard it could prove for them to carry the weight of history

Liverpool moved with the force and speed of a runaway train through December but it is true to say they had not faced an opponent like the one that was waiting for them at the Etihad Stadium; this, then, was going to be a revealing evening

What Jurgen Klopp would have wanted more than anything was a calm, assured start

Ease into the contest, quell the frenzy of the attacking 'thunderstorm' he anticipated and play with the poise of a team that can go and become champions

But what he got was something altogether different. With only nine seconds gone, a ball that Sadio Mane would usually control with his eyes closed ended up skidding from his foot and out of play

Fair enough, you will say. That can happen to anyone at any time.If Mane was anxious, however, he was not alone; with 70 seconds on the clock, Alisson Becker, the goalkeeper who rarely - if ever - gets flustered, sliced a clearance out of play in the fashion of weekend golfer clattering one out of bounds

The Brazilian did it again in the third minute, a straightforward pass to the centre circle not having enough weight on for James Milner to get there; Leroy Sane, a persistent threat, raced in and launched one of those rapid counterattacks when he looks like a motorcyclist weaving in and out of traffic

Could Liverpool settle down? The answer was no. Minute four? It was Dejan Lovren's turn to miss his intended target

Minute five? Trent Alexander-Arnold succumbed, his cross field switch of play ended up being intercepted by the imperious Fernandinho

This wasn't Liverpool. Klopp did his best to keep his emotions in check but, every time you looked at him, he was becoming increasingly fidgety, his temper fizzling down the like the wick on a stick of dynamite

In the 12th minute, he went boom!Mane, again, had erred. Rather than pressing Danilo high up the pitch, the Senegal forward stood still

Klopp popped, arms waving like an excited tic-tac man. Mane gave as good as he got, bickering back and pointing to the centre of the field

James Milner stepped in to calm Mane down.To observe this was to see sport at the highest level unfolding

Klopp is weary of being asked questions about whether Liverpool can become champions for the first time since 1990 but you only had to see study them for the first 15 minutes to see how much they want it

Liverpool have not played a Premier League game with so much riding on it since April 2014 and their play was without freedom during the first 45 minutes

They did have a fine chance to take the lead, when Mane struck the woodwork and John Stones cleared off the line, but they were scratchy

The numbers they produced in that period were revealing; only 77 per cent of their 261 passes went where they should - the third lowest total they managed all season - while just two shots was the lowest they had mustered in a game since facing City at Anfield on October 7

Klopp was aware that the standard had fallen. He sprinted down the tunnel as soon as referee Anthony Taylor blew his whistle and Liverpool re-emerged with a spring in their step; their equilibrium was restored further when the manager tweaked his system

The introduction of Fabinho for Milner saw Liverpool shift to 4-2-3-1 and you could see them grow

They levelled, deservedly, when Firmino stooped to nod in Andy Robertson's cross

This was more like it. Still, it was not perfect and Sane's suckerpunch shortly after flattened them

All, of course, is not lost. Victory would not have won them anything, defeat hasn't wrecked their ambitions

What it has done, nonetheless, has turn up the heat on them. Now it really becomes a test of nerve

How to classify angles as right, straight, obtuse, acute and reflex - Duration: 3:32.

Welcome back to Speller Math Tutorials in today's tutorial we're going to talk

about the types of angles please remember that if you liked this video

please like it subscribe to the channel and/or share out the content right here

we're going to begin with a right angle alright a right angle measures exactly

90 degrees and let's draw in an example so he'll have a horizontal line and then

we have a vertical line and in many times we'll see this notation where

there's a little square in the corner there so that there's exactly 90 degrees

next we have a straight angle a straight angle measures exactly 180 degrees and a

straight angle is nothing more than just a horizontal line or you know the

vertical line or a diagonal line it's just a line alright and this line

normally has this notation that show that we're measuring 180 degrees all

right next let's talk about an obtuse angle well an obtuse angle is an angle

that is that is more than 90 degrees so let's write that out more than 90 but it

and it's also less than 180 degrees and let's draw that out let's go and change

the color to draw an obtuse angle again horizontal line and then we have a

diagonal line going back like this and the notation to show that it's obtuse

means that we're measuring the angle created here next let's talk about an

acute angle an acute angle measures less than 90 degrees so let's write that in

less than 90 degrees and let's draw that out again let's go ahead and switch the

colors so that there is going to have horizontal line like this

and then we'll have a diagonal line in this configuration here and with the

notation shown that it's acute we're going to put the little marking here and

again that's less than 90 degrees and the last thing we're going to talk about

is one that's a reflex angle well

a reflex angle is greater than 180 degrees let's spell that right so

greater than 180 degrees and it's also less than 360 degrees all right and then

let's sketch that in so here horizontal never want to draw a diagonal like this

but notice this time with the notation we're going to show that we're measuring

the angle from this line here back here so that sums up our tutorial here with

spell of math tutorials if you like this video please like it and or subscribe

and share and as always thank you for watching

you

Exes Ariana Grande and Ricky Alvarez Spend New Year's in NYC as She Jokes She's Not Dating Again - 2 - Duration: 3:42.

Ariana Grande and Ricky Alvarez kicked off 2019 together.

The friendly exes, who split in 2016 after dating for nearly a year, were spotted walking the streets of New York City on New Year's Day — in photographs published by E!.

Grande, 25, wore a puffy Fendi jacket with black thigh-high boots and a matching black face mask. Meanwhile Alvarez, 26, kept it casual in khakis, a white T-shirt, a black jacket, and a navy blue ski cap.

Both appeared to be having fun, Grande even sharing clips of their day together on her Instagram Stories.

Their day out came as Grande joked on Twitter that she wouldn't be dating anyone for "the rest of this year / probably my life." Grande had a tough 2018 in the romance department, with high-profile splits from ex-fiancé Pete Davidson and the late Mac Miller (who died in September of an accidental overdose).

Grande sang about Davidson, Miller and Alvarez (as well as Big Sean) in her song "Thank U, Next" — which has spent the past seven consecutive weeks on the top of the charts.

Rumors began circulating in December that she and Alvarez, her former backup dancer, had rekindled their romance after they were spotted in New York City together. The two also had a funny back-and-forth about the lyrics she dedicated to him in "Thank U, Next" on social media.

But Grande was quick to squash that. "We're friends everyone take a big ol breather" she wrote on Instagram, as fans questioned if the two had gotten back together.

While accepting Billboard's Woman of the Year award in December, Grande struggled to hold back tears as she touched upon her very tumultuous year.

In May 2018, PEOPLE confirmed Grande and Miller had split after two years together. Shortly after the pair's separation, Grande and Saturday Night Live star Davidson began dating. They were engaged less than two months later — though their whirlwind romance also ended, with the pair calling off their engagement in October.

"I want to say that I find it interesting that this has been one of the best years of my career and the worst of my life," she said. "I'm not saying that for sympathy, I'm just saying that because I think a lot of people would look at someone in my position right now…and think, 'She's really got her s— together,' Ya know? Like, 'She's really on it.' Like, 'She's got it all.' "

Grande continued: "I do, but as far as my personal life goes, I really have no idea what the f— I'm doing so yeah, it's been a very conflicting one."

Arsenal fans' hilarious theory about Arteta as Man City beat Liverpool - Duration: 2:30.

Manchester City's win over Liverpool on Thursday night has prompted a number of hilarious theories amongst Arsenal supporters

All eyes were on the Etihad Stadium as two of this season's Premier League title contenders played out a thoroughly entertaining game of football which in the end was settled by Leroy Sane's effort

Sergio Aguero's brilliant finish had given the hosts the lead before half-time, but Roberto Firmino - fresh off scoring a hat-trick against the Gunners - equalised after the break

At that point it seemed the Reds were not only going to extend their lead at the top of the table to seven points but also retain their unbeaten record in the league this season

With the north London outfit not competing for the title this term, all supporters cared about was the unbeaten record as they remain the only team to go through an entire campaign without losing

Thanks to Sane's winner that record remains in tact.   Following the game a number of Arsenal fans took to social media and taunted Jurgen Klopp's side as they suffered a first league defeat since last May when they were beaten by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge

Now the dust has settled and supporters are suggesting former captain Mikel Arteta and former manager Arsene Wenger played a huge role in City's win

Take a look at some of the funny theories doing the rounds on Twitter.  Funnily enough Gunners supporters were thankful for the Reds in the reverse meeting between the two clubs last season as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain inspired the Merseyside giants to victory which ended City's unbeaten run
