[Music] Hello Everyone!

It's Andrea and welcome to my January Bullet Journal setup.

All supplies I use will be listed in the description box below.

I really quite enjoyed all the black and white I used for the setup and decided to carry

it on through to January in this space theme.

I started by outlining all of the fine details of the space station.

I wanted to keep the majority of the page white so the moon is covering the bottom two

thirds.

My theme color for this month is going to be grey.

I used this color for all the shading on the moon and space station.

When I colored in the background I carefully went around all the edge parts first.

I also used a blank piece of paper as to not color all over the sides of the book.

I was considering putting the title on the moon as footprints, but then I chose to write

it in the dark space above.

I wanted the letters to be white so I outlined everything first.

The year's numbers are going to be the constellations under the title.

Since I had planned out how every number was going to look I colored around each star.

I did this throughout the entire book and I really should have just colored in the background

and THEN added the constellation words.

But I was committed to draw around EVERY SINGLE STAR.

FYI - This took forever.

And because the black is just a little streaky with only one layer, I went over this again.

I'll be doing this for everything that is black.

I had done some black felt tests and chose the Faber-Castell Pitt Artist Pen.

I explained more of this in the setup video which I will link below if you would like

to watch it.

Then I went over those stars with the white gelly roll pen.

My new best friend this year!

I also added a bunch of stars everywhere else.

First I started with the larger ones, then I added a whole bunch of tiny ones by just

lightly touching the pen to the page.

I finished my constellations by drawing in the two thousand and nineteen.

I started to divide my Calendar Page into individual boxes.

Each box is six squares by six squares.

I really love having my ruler back.

But I'm not using it as much as I would have before since last year's challenge

for me was to not use it for one year.

And I gotta say I really quite enjoyed the freeness of it.

Everything wasn't perfectly straight and had its own look of "roughness" I guess.

I kind of really grew to like it.

I drew the moon on the lower right side behind a few of the boxes.

Those boxes will just be "floating" there.

Then I started the tedious task of outlining all those stars again.

Yeah, I know.

I should have just colored in the whole background and added the stars after.

But I had already planned out all these pages and didn't want to find the correct spacing

for all the letters again.

Once again I went around all the edges first.

But we'll skip past that because it's probably boring, and if I showed you everything,

we'd be here all day!

And yes everything got colored in twice.

Then I went over all those stars with my white gelly roll pen.

I connected all the constellations and even added my new logo, since it's a shooting

star and all.

Then I added lots more stars by dotting the pages everywhere.

I even added them to the tiny gaps between the boxes.

Now they really look like they're floating in space.

I also colored in my page number on the one side that got covered with in black background.

I used the grey to give the boxes over the moon a drop shadow.

That floating illusion is looking better and better.

Then I shaded the moon and the craters.

I wrote the days of the week in white along the top then I numbered all the boxes.

I continued using the tall font from before in my 2019 setup.

My mood tracker is going to be on a white page even though I think it would have looked

better on a black page.

I wrote the title at the top then marked all the invisible edges of the days of the month.

Each box is four squares by four squares.

Then I drew little constellation moods at the bottom.

Now you see why this would have looked better on a black background.

Oh well, if you love this mood tracker and decide to use it you could put it on a black

background.

I numbered each square in the bottom corner.

For my Habit Tracker I really wanted to incorporate some planets.

I drew my title planet then five planets, which will be my habits, and gave each one

a giant ring around the outside.

The ring will get divided into thirty-one sections for all the days of the month.

The planets on the inside where all different sizes and I gave them swirls like on the gas

giant Jupiter.

I divided all the rings into thirty-one sections.

Then I added all the day numbers inside all those sections.

A little tedious I know and I kept having to rotate the book.

Sorry if it makes you dizzy.

Then back to coloring in.

I tried to keep the line as close to the center of the book as possible without touching the

mood tracker page.

I carefully outlined around all the planets and their rings.

Then I could scribble wildly around it.

This page went faster because I didn't have any stars to go around.

So this is one layer.

And this is two.

Much nicer I do have to say.

Time to start giving the background some life.

Strange how a bunch of small white dots make all the difference.

Back to outlining dots again.

My Polaroid memories page had been so much fun last year.

Makes you actually have to find pictures you like.

I finally got an instant camera last year but it's the square one.

I was actually making my own Polaroids with Photoshop and then just printing them out.

I was considering doing a page with two spaces for the square photos but decided I really

liked my home-made minis better.

So no you don't always have to have Polaroids.

You can even collage a bunch of pictures to this page.

The title became the constellations and then, you guessed it, more stars!

I needed to keep the Brain Dump page mostly white since I'm going to need to be able

to write on it, so I put the title in a box at the top.

I also put a box around the entire page because I still wanted to have the black background.

I wanted these two pages to kind of flow into each other so on the left side I drew a rocket

ship taking off.

Then I realized I should have continued the blast cloud onto the other page.

Coloring in again.

My scrap piece of paper is looking pretty streaky.

At times I thought I messed up a page because I saw the lines on the paper and not the book.

Time for stars again.

I've never used this gelly roll pen that much before.

What's your favorite white pen?

I found this pen did not work on some of my black felts.

So definitely test out combinations if you want to do a black and white theme.

Time to shade everything with the grey.

It really brings it to life.

My Exercise Tracker has been barren for the last few months.

Especially after the holidays I really need to get back into that.

Once again I'm outlining all the stars.

But the black background is only the top portion here.

By the end of this setup my hand was sore from all the outlining and coloring.

Even though the coloring is quite relaxing, when I'm filming there is always this pressure

to get things done quickly.

I was really quite surprised that I never colored over any of these stars.

I wrote exercise and description on one side, filled in pounds/minutes, reps and sets.

Each box has enough space to do each exercise six times.

Then colored in every other row with the grey marker and color coded the days of the week.

I repeated this on the next page.

For my weekly I started by outlining all my stars again.

Yeah, I know what you're thinking.

I actually used a real constellation this time for behind the meal section.

Can you guess which one?

I was totally a nerd in high school and loved space.

I remember when I first learned about planets and stars and constellations.

I had this book with all the constellations in it.

I learned them all before I could actually see them since I was waiting for a clear night.

But once it was clear and I saw them for real (now knowing what they were) it made me feel

so small.

It's strange.

I knew there were stars before, but now being able to match constellations in the sky.

That was just something else for me.

That there is so much out there that we don't even know.

Crazy?

So I usually use the same style of days of the week and decided this time to make them

tall and skinny.

I wrote the days of the week inside each box along with a "to do" section.

Then I wrote the numbers in the tall font in the bottom corners of every box.

My water tracker will be these drops of water in that top border section.

I wanted to incorporate them right into the days of the week.

And I'll write the weather and my sleep in that bottom section.

I also used the hatched drop shadow border around the boxes.

Then it was time to color in again.

I may have to use this black and white theme again sometime this year.

I really quite enjoyed it.

And even though I'm still adding a lot of elements to every page it still feels very

clean and simplistic to me.

I may want to try an absolute minimalistic design for all of you who don't have as

much time for a setup.

I have December thirty-first to January sixth as the constellations.

Then my one real constellation.

Did you figure out which one it is?

It's Orion.

It was one of my favorite ones to look at when I was younger.

Time for stars!

Lots of stars!

Then I added the fine line details to all the lettering.

I also added a few stripes of grey to the tops and bottoms of all the days of the week.

Lastly was to shade in the moon and give the meal tracker a drop shadow.

Then I went back and colored in all the January items from the setup.

I really hope you enjoyed this month's theme as much as I have and I hope I may have inspired

you to just go for it and start Bullet Journaling.

I know there are tons of videos on YouTube to help with inspiration, but always remember

that it all started with just a plain notebook and a pen.

If you try any of the spreads I have created, please tag me on Instagram @amazing_andrea_1.

That's with underscores.

I would love to see your recreations.

How Pinocchio's "I've got no strings on me" song was localized in France. - Duration: 13:24.

*Baguette speak for "How do you do?" *

This is more or less a test idea

for a series of videos covering

how the original english disney songs

were localized in France.

Keep in mind that I'm not some kind of

professional translator, linguist or historian,

so it's largely possible

that references might fly over my head,

especially for the oldest songs and their contexts

or that some of them are open

to personal interpretations.

Now, a bit more about how this will go down.

I'll try to proceed by comparing either one line

or group of lines,

depending on a bunch of reasons,

by letting the English plays out first,

followed directly by the French one.

I'll also give a translation of the French lyrics

so you can understand what's going on.

I decided to start with "I've got no strings" from

the 1940s Disney's classic animated movie Pinocchio,

because it's a somewhat short song,

and I think that most of you will directly jump to 1 part

that I'll add in the description

and/or the pinned comment.

Also, no Ultron will be involved in this.

To begin with, just the French title of the song

encapsulates an interesting subtlety.

"Sans aucun lien" translates in English to:

"without any restraint" in this context.

While "strings" are more or less seen as neutral,

a restraint implies some force or lack of freedom,

which is a recurring theme

throughout the French version

and seems to be somewhat brushed over in the original

simply with the use of that word "lien"

instead of the direct translation "fils" or "ficelles".

The original mentions the idea

that the strings on Pinocchio are, in fact,

restraining his moves,

even making him a slave to

whoever has their hands on them.

Compared to the French version,

there are already a bunch of differences.

With only this line,

and again, thanks to the use of the word bond or

restraint instead of simple strings,

they managed to convey the lack of freedom

Pinocchio has been subjected to

that was conveyed in 4 lines in English.

I'll try to not linger too much

on the restraint/bond part, you get the idea.

What's left of the next three lines in French then?

In French, Pinocchio talks about how he doesn't need

any help to go around,

which is funny when you think about him

fumbling down the stairs right before.

This idea is conveyed again

in the following French lines, I'll get back to it.

Pinocchio talks again about a before and

after being freed from the strings,

and ends up repeating that he isn't a prisoner

or even a slave to the strings anymore.

However, the French version doesn't focus on this matter

and keeps on covering the idea that

Pinocchio is a big boy able

to stand for himself with those lyrics.

Notice that this is the only time

the word "ficelles" is used

in the whole French localization

instead of the recurring bonds or restraints,

but it's probably to rhyme with the previous "chancelle".

There is a difference of viewpoints here.

In English, Pinocchio is quite bold and

says that being merry is the only way to be,

as if there is no arguing to this

and that the whole world might try

but nothing will change his mind,

although I might be off the mark here

with the use of nothing worrying him.

However in French, he is more talking about

how he personally feels

without really saying "that's the only way period".

That last line somewhat insists that

"being sad" isn't a smart way of spending one's time

and that we should be celebrating

the happy moments instead,

but it's not entirely dismissing that

bad things never happen

or that you must never think about them.

In the original, Pinocchio talks about how happiness,

at least his own,

is achieved thanks to having no strings attached,

both physically and metaphorically.

The French one is more about freedom in general,

being able to go anywhere, anytime,

without anyone's help,

but there is no direct reference to happiness.

And again, we're back to "lien"

instead of "fil" or "ficelle".

In English, Pinocchio compares himself to others,

which is heavily hinted at other puppets

in general needing someone to move them

and give them life.

The French version doesn't even

acknowledge other puppets,

just that Pinocchio can do things on his own,

with a strong undertone of past slavery

because of the use of "being emancipated".

Before starting this next part, just so you know,

the original version has a lot of

harmless stereotypes going on,

both in the broken English

and in other cultural misconceptions,

probably due to the year being 1940.

The French version still uses thick accents

but they all talk proper French

and are less bold in what they're saying to Pinocchio.

Yes, "your arms is free"

is part of the stereotypes I warned you about.

However both versions are almost

copy pasted from one another,

although the way to talk about Pinocchio's

freedom is slightly different

with the English directly referring to

the lack of strings on Pinocchio,

while in French, they just mention his freedom.

The next lines about loving by the Zuiderzee

are the same despite the added "doors",

"aux portes de/des/du" in french

just means "next to" or "close to".

I don't know why they changed

"Ya-ya-ya" to "Yo yo yo"

probably an artistic choice.

Anyway, for the second part of this line,

I looked it up because, I really wasn't sure about

what "to woo" means,

and from the Merriam Webster dictionnary,

it simply means it to court a woman,

at least in this context.

So she's saying that if

Pinocchio tries to flirt with her,

she'd be ready to follow him

going as far as using force to get out of her bonds.

The French version has some differences

in that Pinocchio doesn't even have to try,

she has already fallen for him

but apparently she can't get rid of the restraints,

despite her willingness to do so.

I'll get back to that part about busting at the end.

Here's the part you were probably waiting for

or directly skipped to ;-)

Okay, right here, I need to address something:

Couci-couça is simply french for "so so",

when describing one's health, as in:

So couci-couça is complete bullshit here,

but it sounds french so it's okay !

*Angery croissants sounds.*

Sorry.

You have no strings might also refer to

Pinocchio not being engaged to another woman,

on top of the obvious lack of physical strings.

Yeah, of course it would boil down to this.

Americans saw the french, back then,

as really sex craved people,

or at least a lot more open about it.

It's shown here with the french can can puppet

openly praising Pinocchio's performances in bed !

Savoir-faire means know how,

but « oh lala » is used for 2 reasons in french.

Either for something bad,

like receiving bad news

or being in shock at something

like witnessing a trainwreck,

or to convey something naughty

akin to the infamous Georges Takei's "Oh my !",

and in this context,

it's pretty clear it's the latter.

Yeah, you know, for kids !

The french localization made things a lot less

aggressive and more subtle,

with the Puppet asking first if Pinocchio is single,

although Love can have a romantic meaning

or the sexual intercourse one, "making love"

but I'm probably reaching there.

And the next line is a follow-up

only if Pinocchio IS single

AND willing to put up with courtship

even if the tone is rather pressing.

It's almost word for word

the same lines in both versions,

saying that she's ready to quit everything for Pinocchio.

Not counting the restraints change again,

she doesn't talk about cutting the strings in french,

but about breaking them,

implying brute force instead of using another tool.

It might just be an artistic choice to keep some sort of

consistency with the previous Dutch puppet

also wanting to break them,

but I don't know, to be honest,

because using "Je les couperais pour vous"

would have worked all the same.

There's an interesting nuance to breaking

or busting as opposed to

cutting that ended up missing in french.

I didn't find an explanation to what

exactly a « russian rendez-vous » is,

but if you take into account the 2 previous puppets,

it might again refer to courtship

or something naughtier.

However, the french version doesn't refer to

something like this in those lines.

Remind me who is obsessed with lovemaking again ?

Just kidding.

Anyway, in french, she talks about

a more physical place, an "isba",

but is more vague about the Volga,

and there's nothing really clear about the relevancy

of this house outside of sounding really russian

and rhyming with Volga.

There's no difference outside of some

minor rearrangements of words

that might just be my fault in trying to

retranslate again from french.

So, I'm gonna cover something different

in the Russian puppet's lines

compared to the 2 previous ones.

The Dutch and French puppets talk about strings

and how they'd get rid of them

if Pinocchio wanted them to,

while the Russian one

doesn't acknowledge those directly.

However, she's the only one mentionning

another man by name, Ivan,

whom she's supposed to go with somewhere,

for whatever reason.

It might be just another russian stereotype insertion,

but it also conveys the idea

that she has metaphorical strings,

restraints or bonds with this man.

Maybe her fiancé, or husband ?

We went from strings as in,

they're puppets yet Pinocchio doesn't need any,

to adultery ?

I'm probably reading too much into this,

so I'll let you decide.

And we end here again with a slavery depiction

in french instead of a more direct approach

of strings in the original.

In conclusion, both versions tried to

convey some interesting ideas

although not entirely the same.

I would have loved to do a proper

and longer conclusion

but I think it's better to stop here

for a 1st try at this project.

Do not hesitate to give a piece of

your mind in the comments

or even suggest the next song,

and if you liked that,

well, give a like, it's just one more click.

I'm trying to focus

on the shorter songs first

and as you can see,

there's already a lot to say.

Merci beaucoup,

prenez soin de vous et amusez-vous bien, au revoir.

Hope and Landon (Handon) | You Will Find Me [1x08] - Duration: 3:24.

Do you have a girlfriend?

Her name is Hope.

And she'd probably kill us both if she

heard you calling her my girlfriend.

Though I do like the sound of his voice.

It's low and smart sounding and kind of

soothing and his eyes, his eyes are like this green gray color that's not really

a color you know?

Like the green when he wears green and then...

Oh my god, who am I right now?

Is that your way of admitting

you care about me?

Maybe I'm a little biased.

Sorry.

I broke your trust.

I don't want to do it again.

I hate that you're always seeing me when I'm weak.

You're not weak.

You're a survivor.

Landon, that makes you one of the strongest people I've ever known.

I didn't mean to bring all this into your life.

I'm sorry I ever walked into it.

I'm not.

Dear Hope,

the state of Alabama has like

a million waffle houses and I

cannot stop

thinking about what it felt like

to kiss you.

If you ever need me just press it and my bracelet will lead me to you.

What's wrong?

Landon's in trouble.

I'm going after Landon.

If this thing is glowing,

that means that he's in trouble.

People who care about him,

so tell me where he is

before I blow your head off.

You must be Hope.

I picked it up but I didn't steal it.

Not on purpose, anyways.

I don't know how it got in there

just like how I don't know what happened with the knife.

I swear I wouldn't do that again.

Landon, it's okay.

I believe you.

Thank you for coming for me.

I needed help and you came.

It never really happened to me before.

Hope,

I'll never hurt you again.

Never.

Do you want to be my boyfriend?

Are you serious?

Deadly.

Well, that's a big decision.

I know.

You should probably sleep on it.

No, absolutely not.

In that case, yeah.
