for extraterrestrials and could back up a theory suggesting life on Mars may have been

forced underground when disaster turned the planet into a "frigid desert".

Patrick Gasda, a postdoctoral researcher at Los Alamos National Laboratory said: "Because

borates may play an important role in making RNA - one of the building blocks of life - finding

boron on Mars further opens the possibility that life could have once arisen on the planet.

"Borates are one possible bridge from simple organic molecules to RNA.

Without RNA, you have no life.

"The presence of boron tells us that, if organics were present on Mars, these chemical reactions

could have occurred."

RNA is ribonucleic acid, a nucleic acid present in all modern life which is involved in the

decoding and expression of genes from DNA.

It is known to be unstable, so unless boron is present it decomposes quickly.

Chuseok travel update: All roads running smoothly but Incheon airport sees record crowds - Duration: 1:06.

Let's start with an update on the traffic and travel situation here in Korea, as it's

the first weekend of the Chuseok holiday.

The usual mass exodus of cars from cities has not materialized, because of this year's

unusually long 10-day break has spread out the congestion.

For the second day in a row, traffic on the expressways have been running relatively smoothly,

and authorities say it has been no worse than a regular weekend.

However rain has started to fall throughout the country so people are advised to drive

carefully.

The roads may not be busy, but it seems the airports are.

Korea's main gateway, Incheon International Airport, reported a record 115-thousand took

flights out of the country on Saturday, and that number could be even greater today.

Because of the huge numbers, travelers are advised head to the airport early, as security

and check-in lines could get backed up.

Buses and trains have also been seeing high number of passengers and many routes were

sold out today both online and at stations.

Nandor Tanczos says Greens must deal with National - but not now

Nandor Tanczos says Greens must deal with National - but not now. Former Green MP Nandor Tanczos has warned his party against a deal with the National Party this year - but says it has to be an option in the future.

Tanczos, an MP from 1999 to 2008 who is now a Whakatane district councillor, said during a campaign to co-lead the Greens in 2006 that the party should be prepared to go into coalition with National some time.

But he says in a new blog post that doing a deal with National now would be both impossible in practical terms and politically suicidal.

Impossible because any coalition agreement needs ratification by 75 per cent of the party and there is more chance of Winston retiring gracefully from politics, he writes.

Suicidal for a multitude of reasons. First, people voted for the Greens on the clear understanding that we would not support a National Government.

To do so would be a complete betrayal of our voters, akin to NZ First going with National in 1996 (for which they got badly punished).

Second, it might be worth the risk if we could shape the trajectory of an incoming government.

To bolster a government almost certainly in its last term, a government that has shown such disregard for both the environment and our growing social inequality, just before their support collapses, would be a tragic mistake.

Third, to make such a move without lengthy preparation and discussion inside the party would tear the Greens apart. But he said the Greens must be prepared to seriously consider the idea of a coalition with National at some stage.

If Greens cannot carve out a constituency beyond the left of Labour cul de sac we are in, we will continue to play out the dynamic of this election over and over, soaring in the polls only as long as Labour is doing badly, but dropping back to 5 per cent as soon as Labour turns left again.

Or finds a charismatic leader, Tanczos writes. We may be mighty in opposition, but we will always be puny in coalition until we stop relying on discontented Labour voters for support.

He said a left/right continuum is simply incapable of representing Green politics.

Our most defining issues dont figure on it at all and neither are the solutions to them a simple application of any one ideology, whether ecosocialism or green capitalism, he said.

Both the left and the right have valuable contributions to make to this discussion, but more important for the Greens is the opportunity to articulate uniquely Green solutions as the third point in a left/right/green triangle.

In fact, if you look at the fundamentals, there is very little genuine political difference between National and Labour.

Because if you look at the most fundamental Green concerns - climate change, protection of waterways, child poverty, growing inequality, protecting civil and human rights, tangata whenua rights - the last Labour government was barely more progressive than National.

Tanczos urges the Greens to connect with New Zealands 450,000 small businesses.

Self-employment speaks to core Green ideals of supporting local economies, building self-reliance and personal autonomy, helping people lift themselves out of poverty and fostering stronger linkages between businesses and the social ecological communities in which they are located, he said.

I know a great many small business owners who support the ideals of the Greens but who dont connect with us a party because we are not speaking to them.

There are actually lots of Greens who are small business owners - probably a disproportionate number compared to either National or Labour.

Both National and Labour tend to focus on large corporate bureaucracies and pay little attention to how their policies impact on small businesses - who as we know are New Zealands biggest employer.

For years the Greens put loads of effort into trying to woo the unions. It would be worth putting the same effort into understanding how to support a sustainable, resilient and regenerative business ecology.

Certainly no one else is doing much in that space.

Escaping our left of Labour trap is not about moving to the centre. The very notion of a centre sitting half-way between Labour and National is irrelevant when we locate ourself on a triangle.

Neither is it about abandoning our principles. Rather it is about embodying them in their entirety. What they cannot mean, though, is relegating ourselves to the periphery of power just because we are committed to giving Labour a free run..

So are you in the All Blacks were okay or Argentina are rubbish camp? . To be honest it was hard not to have a foot in both, after New Zealands comfortable 36-10 victory at Estadio Jose Amalfitani on Sunday morning (NZT).

There was genuine uncertainty about how well the All Blacks might perform here in Buenos Aires and whether one or two individuals were on a bit of borrowed time.

Second five-eighth Sonny Bill Williams, prop Kane Hames and fullback Damian McKenzie were probably three who didnt come into this match with the unwavering admiration of the rugby public.

But by the time Hames was being back-slapped off the park, as the All Blacks went in for halftime at 29-3 up, it was difficult to suggest the trio had been anything other than excellent.

They were hardly the only ones; just the blokes who probably displays of that significance most.

Williams had been poor since the win over Australia in Sydney. His hands had been bad and he just appeared off the pace and unable to impose himself.

He wasnt amazing in the first 40 minutes here; the team dont need him to be.

  The All Blacks laid down a pretty fair challenge to the hosts. But he was accurate and played with a bit of menace and presence and the stability he provided allowed some of the flair players to show their wares.

McKenzie and first five-eighth Beauden Barrett were brilliant, at times, as tries to captain Kieran Read, McKenzie himself and wing Waisake Naholo saw the All Blacks quickly take Argentina out of the contest.

Again, you could quibble about the Pumas contribution and cite their inaccuracy and ill-discipline as reasons why the visitors made so much headway.

But Argentinas inadequacies shouldnt obscure what New Zealand did. It was a textbook demonstration of how to come to a potentially hostile environment, against a tricky opponent, and render them all inconsequential bystanders.

Partly because the All Blacks scrum was proving so sturdy. The Pumas spent a period on New Zealands line right before halftime but eventually left empty-handed after not being able to combat Hames and co at scrum time.

The intervention of halftime doesnt always aid these occasions and the second spell quickly became a scrappy, ill-tempered affair.

Reads sinbinning, for a high shot, didnt help. Flanker Matt Todd had, unfairly, earned a 10-minute spell in the first half too, meaning the team ensured a significant period with only 14 players.

8 Juan Manuel Leguizman was ruled to have scored during Reads absence, allowing the slumbering 50,000-strong crowd the chance to get into things at last.

It was fleeting and the longer the half went, the worse the game got. Debutant David Havili coming on at fullback was one of the few moments of note.

Overall there was too much dropped, or lost, pill from New Zealand and a lot of referee Jaco Peypers whistle. Its hard when the games won so early, but the second 40 minutes really was a bit of a drag.

Having become All Black No. 1161, Havili lifted the gloom a little by diving in for the final try of the night. On to Cape Town, then, where New Zealand meet South Africa in a weeks time.

Judge bests The Babe, but Yankees' division dream ends

Though they aren't going to the postseason as the AL East champs, the Yankees feel pretty good about their chances Tuesday night in the wild-card game against the Twins at Yankee Stadium.

"We fought for the AL East title and I am very proud of the guys in that room and what they have accomplished,'' Joe Girardi said of his club that beat the Blue Jays, 2-1, Saturday in front of 39,457 at the Stadium but didn't get the required help from the Astros in Boston to take the AL East race to the final nine innings Sunday.

Though it's as a wild card, the Yankees are in the postseason for the first time since 2015. The winner Tuesday night faces the Indians in the ALDS with the first two tilts in Cleveland.

When the Yankees dropped five games back on Sept. 24, it put them in survival mode. Since then the Yankees are 5-1, and the importance of those six games works in their favor according to Girardi.

"In a sense, they were elimination games for us,'' Girardi said. "We were five down coming home and our guys continued to play well and continued to play loose.

They continued to make pitches and grind out at-bats. That was encouraging to me because it's not like we had a chance to turn it off and I like that.''.

Sunday will be a day of rest for some of Girardi's regulars in order to get ready for the Twins, who they went 4-2 against in the regular season.

Though Aaron Judge, CC Sabathia, David Robertson and Aroldis Chapman did their part to keep the Yankees alive, the updates out of Fenway Park weren't encouraging.

"As close as I ever watched,'' Girardi said when asked how focused he was on the scoreboard. "It is frustrating because of how well we played in the last five or six weeks.

I like the way our club is playing and let's give it everything we got.''. In what could have been Sabathia's final games as a Yankee, he provided 5 ²/₃ scoreless innings and improved to 14-5 and lowered his ERA to 3.

Judge hit a 484-foot homer off Long Island's Marcus Stroman in the fourth inning for his 52nd homer.

Robertson cleaned up a two-on, no-out jam he inherited from Tommy Kahnle in the eighth and Chapman posted his 22nd save with a clean ninth inning. CC Sabathia might have walked off the mound in a Yankees uniform for the last time.

Judge, who passed Babe Ruth for the most home runs at Yankee Stadium in a single season with 33, says the recipe for advancing is familiar.

"Just keep playing our game. Keep doing what we've been doing the past couple weeks and keep having fun,'' Judge said. "Never played for a team like this, where everyone gets along. We're always competing, we're always having fun.

That's what championship teams are made of, so I'm excited for what's gonna happen in the postseason.''. So, when your club comes off the canvas late in the season and narrowly misses winning a title do you play the What If card?.

"You can beat yourself up but that's not going to help but that's part of baseball,'' Girardi said. "In 162 games you are going to have some games that get away and some that you win that you probably shouldn't.
