Hello everyone I am Gigi Miu!
From this week onwards, I will just introduce you intermediate and advanced techniques,
and that's because we finished all the "basic" process on how to make a song from scratch.
This particular lessons has been inspired by a chat I had on the Vocaloid Discord server
in which we were discussing about staccato and how to be sure that each distinct phoneme is not connected to the previous one.
In particular I would like to thanks Owls, Spookie Boogie Pigeon and PKBoo-sy.
Also I am sure they would be able to explain all this better than me, but hopefully I will be able to wrap it up nicely.
So today we will focus on techinique to make phonemes play in staccato way, or at least some techniques you can use to make them stand out more without getting the feeling of them being linked one by the other.
This of course without using changes in pitch.
We will use a pair of LA LA to show you the differences between these different techniques.
The first sound I will show you is a pair of LA LA that have no space between them.
Something like this. Ok, let's hear it.
Just one second, I am setting the loop area properly, so you can hear it in loop.
So, this is the base sound of having two LA LA without any space between them.
So, what other options do we have apart putting them one after the other without space between them?
One of the first option is to add a small space between them. Let's compare them.
I am not even sure you can hear the subtle difference. Probably if you were doing it directly you would notice it more.
A third option is to use the note stop phoneme (also called Silence)
A silence phoneme is a phoneme that stops the previous phoneme from reproduction.
The command for this phoneme is [?] or [Sil]
They should behave more or less the same. On the official wiki [Sil] is the silence phoneme and [?] is a glottal stop, but the use is deprecated for most of the modern voicebanks.
Such a subtle difference is really hard to feel here in this video. You should try it at home to get the proper feeling.

So, back on topic, all the techniques I have introduced you produces really subtle differences in the output of the sound.
If it sounds too hard for you, just avoid them for now, and just acknowledge their existence.
Even if you can't find an use for them now, you may find one in the future.

There is one more thing I would love to show you today.
Let me introduce you the breath phonemes.
There are five of them [br1], [br2], [br3], [br4] and [br5]
These phonemes emulate a breath. Let's listen to them one after the other.
Once more.
I am pretty sure you can't even listen to them in this video. They are soft like a real breath.
Maybe introducing this is way too advanced for you,
but since we just finished the basic on how to make a song, you need to understand that there is no linear way to go on from here.
Each of the advanced topics may be completely irrelevant or mind-blowing depending on how you plan to use them.
From now on you should enter in the mindset that each new information you acquire is a powerful tool that you can use.
I can't, of course, tell you HOW to use them. This is up to you.
Don't worry if you can't find a use for this right now. The day you may need this will eventually come.
The next lessons as well will be like this one; a small bit of information that is yours to use.
