NASA plans to genetically modify astronauts so they can survive the journey to Mars - Duration: 4:13.

NASA plans to genetically modify astronauts so they can survive the journey to Mars

The prospect of humans one day visiting another planet has never seemed more possible than

it has in recent years, but several more obstacles need to be overcome before this can become

reality.

Some people believe that incredible scientific discoveries could be waiting on the red planet,

and NASA has recently ramped up its efforts in hopes of sending astronauts there in the

2030s.

Cosmic radiation is one of the biggest problems those who visit Mars will face, and it comes

not only from the sun but also stellar explosions that occur far beyond our solar system.

Particle radiation in space can collide with nuclei in human tissue, creating nuclear collisions

that can create new particles and damage human cell DNA.

Earths magnetic field generally protects us from these particles, but the astronauts

headed for Mars could be exposed to them for years without protection.

Now NASA is mulling over several ways to deal with this challenge, including the use of

drugs that will alter the astronauts DNA.

They believe that this could help to repair any damage that is caused by the high-energy

particles bombarding them when they visit the planet.

This approach was mentioned by Dr. Douglas Terrier, the agencys Acting Chief Technologist,

ahead of an appearance at the London Codex Innovation Summit.

Armored suits and shielded plating have also been suggested as possibilities but are believed

to be impractical.

In addition, NASA is looking into the possibility of using artificial intelligence programs

to diagnose diseases in space and even carry out robotic surgery.

However, they are also considering altering the DNA of astronauts through epigenetic modifications,

which will change the way the body reads genes without affecting the underlying DNA.

By altering the chemicals controlling the volume of genes, their activity can be amplified

or muted as needed should something go wrong.

Dr. Terrier told The Times, Were looking at a range of things.

From drug therapies, and those seem to be quite promising, to more extreme things like

epigenetic modification all the way to manipulation.

What are the long-term consequences of these safety measures?

While they believe that these approaches could help prevent cancer and other illnesses from

being caused by the radiation in theory, there are a lot of questions about the safety of

such approaches.

According to Dr. Terrier, four astronauts will likely be on board for the voyage in

order to find a good balance between traveling lightly and staving off loneliness.

The four astronauts who sign up for this mission could find themselves undergoing epigenetic

modifications, and its anybodys guess where that could lead.

Volunteering to head to another planet is full of uncertainties, and these peoples

bodies will be subjected to elements that cannot be fully predicted.

However, the prospect of genetically modifying humans brings a whole new level of complexity

to the endeavor.

People who volunteer to go to Mars are clearly willing to take on the risks of space travel,

but the effects of human genetic modification might not be confined only to these individuals.

Besides the question of long-term safety, what could happen if any of these four genetically-modified

astronauts go on to have children?

How many generations would be affected by their modified DNA?

Assuming these four people are able to safely return to Earth after their mission, would

interactions with others put them at any sort of risk?

There are a lot more questions than answers when it comes to this approach, and even Dr.

Terrier acknowledged that it would have a lot of ethical consequences.

The First Family Did Something So Secret In The DC Hotel, The Media Didn't Even Notice - Duration: 24:14.

The First Family Did Something So Secret In The DC Hotel, The Media Didn't Even Notice

President Trump has been dedicated to this nation since the day he stepped into office.

Sure he takes time to golf while he's at his properties, but he is there taking care

of business for the US.

The first family has been in the spotlight and it is time they had some downtime.

This Saturday the President and First Lady took themselves and their family out to enjoy

some time out.

They spent time at his DC Hotel.

The first family made it to the Trump International Hotel just before 8 pm.

He met with Melania and was waiting for Barron's arrival.

The reason behind the large media coverage of their night out was because of the fact

that this was a rare public outing for the three of them, and the first time that the

11-year-old Barron had been photographed alongside his parents since August 27, when he was returning

from an overnight trip to Camp Davis with his parents.

And while the last time he was photographed with his parents he received criticism from

leftist fashion critics as dressing up too casual, this time, he decided to shut the

ranting down, by dressing up in a formal black suit for dinner.

And while the commander-in-chief and his son had a similar style with their formal suits,

it was First Lady Melania who stunned everyone yet again.

She kept it simple and beautiful in her Dolce & Gabanna dress that was knee-length.

Of course, she topped off her look with some accessories and some Christian Louboutin black-patent

leather stilettos.

And while it wasn't clear who the first family was joined by, judging by the smiles

and their happy looks on their face, it was clear that they all had a good time.

What do you think of this good news

Why Is Hitler So Popular In India? - Duration: 3:05.

Adolph Hitler is seen as one of the worst, most reviled, people in history.

In some countries, particularly Germany, symbols and rituals associated with the genocidal

dictator are illegal, and his book "Mein Kampf" was even banned from publication

in Russia.

However, in India, Hitler's autobiography is a best-seller, and is even recommended

for business students to read as a management tool.

Images of Hitler are featured in cafes, movies, and even on ice cream cones.

When compared to Europe and the United States, Hitler is a somewhat revered figure in Indian

culture, so… why does India love Hitler?

Well, one major reason is that Hitler's legacy as a genocidal dictator stems from

his actions during World War Two, which for India, was not as big of a deal.

Instead, it was undergoing its own divisive partition, one that ultimately split the country

into Pakistan and India.

A divide which led to as many as one million deaths, distracting India from the ongoing

conflict in Europe.

Additionally, the Indian educational system doesn't place a significant focus on the

Holocaust in the same way the Western world does.

Instead, Hitler's popularity in Nazi Germany, as well as his efforts at strengthening nationalism

and development, are much more familiar topics for many in India.

This distance from the horrors of the Holocaust, and a focus on his strengths as a leader,

have painted the dictator as more of a tough patriotic authoritarian, and his name is even

used as a lighthearted insult to describe strict people.

These factors create a unique situation where Hitler's legacy is nonthreatening.

In fact, when India looks to 20th century history for a villainous leader, many are

more likely to point to Winston Churchill than Adolf Hitler.

Churchill is blamed for the deaths of more than 4 million people in India as a result

of the Bengal Famine during World War II.

Instead of allowing food to reach India, which was controlled by Britain at the time, Churchill

allegedly directed available grain to be stockpiled in Europe in case it was needed for wartime

efforts.

However, it's important to note that while India appears to revere Adolph Hitler as a

powerful leader, great orator, and shrewd military figure, the anti-Semitism associated

with the dictator is not encouraged, but rather ignored.

Judaism is by far one of the smallest religious minorities in the country, and so the lasting

impact of the Holocaust is simply not relatable to much of India.

Whereas in Europe, reverence of Hitler is often a sign of much deeper and darker ideas,

India's reverence is a unique context where his atrocities are not a part of Indian history.

So, what WAS India doing during World War Two that Hitler's legacy is so broadly overlooked?

Well, for one, they were undergoing a massive civil war that led to the creation of Pakistan,

and a long-lasting resentment between the two countries, that is still ongoing today.

To learn about why India and Pakistan hate each other, you can check out this video to

the right.

So who hasn't benefited from Rapid Trait Profiling - Duration: 8:57.

- Have you ever wanted to be able

to read people's body language,

communicate with people better

and actually understand what their face is telling you

without actually even having to ask them?

Well, I learnt something pretty special right here,

Alan Stevens, who is known as the Celebrity Profiler,

but he actually is more than that,

he's actually probably one of the only people in the globe,

that right now can look at anyone's face

and know exactly more about them

than what they probably do themselves,

just imagine it, what a skill set that is to have,

to be able to improve your conversations,

improve your communication, influence people

to get the outcomes that you're looking for,

have better relationships with people, lead people better.

Alan, welcome, thanks do much for joining me.

- Thank you very much.

- So tell people, when I say the art of reading people,

what's that actually mean, what do you actually do?

- Well, what you're looking at doing

is understanding a person more fully

and one of the things that will give you a lot of detail

is actually their facial features,

now when you look at their facial features,

that's a history of how they like to think and process,

so the ridges and the crevices,

so if you look at that, you understand things like

the amount of space that they require,

how much information they wanna be told,

- Yeah.

- and then you actually have the language

and how you then speak to those traits

and at the same time, then how you actually monitor that

and you pick up their body language and their expressions,

that tell you just how accurate you have picked it up.

- Yeah, lovely, I think that's the key thing,

'cause when I first met Alan,

I tried to keep a very straight face,

so he couldn't read me, but it actually had nothing to do

with how I was looking right now

as you said, it's the lines, it's the crevices,

it's the things that we've been doing for all of our life,

which actually you can then understand

a particular trait someone has,

- That's right.

- and I believe every trait has a positive or a negative,

so it doesn't really matter what your trait is,

it just is what it is.

- That's exactly right.

- So let's pick one, pick one trait,

'cause I know there's 82 traits,

we won't go through all of them, what's one?

- Well, one would be the actual width of the face itself,

that tells you the person's level of confidence,

so some people have a very high level of confidence,

innate, inbuilt, so they hear something for the first time

and they go, "Great, got it,"

the downside of that trait is that we don't know

whether they've got it until they're put to the test,

- Yep.

- so if you're actually teaching somebody,

who's got the wider face, the higher level of confidence,

we'll ask them a few questions, well, if you've got that,

well, how would you actually apply that

and get some feedback from them,

if you've got somebody, who's got a very narrow face,

then they're somebody who builds their confidence

by doing things over and over, - Yes.

- so the more they repeat,

the more they actually build their confidence,

so if you're speaking to somebody who's got a narrow face

and they're talking very confidently,

you know they know their stuff,

so you're pretty much wasting your time

trying to catch them out.

- Yeah, brilliant, so when you say the width of the face,

what am I really looking at there?

- The actual measurement is looking through the width here,

'cause everyone's face changes in this area in the width,

but through the skeletal structure,

that doesn't change much at all, so it's that width

compared to the actual length of the face,

so the natural turn of the forehead,

so while people are looking at this video,

for instance, I'll see a little bit of a glare,

that's where my, you know, the top of my forehead is

and down to the chin,

so I'm looking for the difference between that and this.

- Okay, so if I, I mean, I'm learning here

at the same time and using it,

so I go the width is longer than going that way,

so does that mean your face is narrower or wider?

- I would hope that this is longer than that,

because otherwise I'd have a very squashed head,

but you'll see that some people might be very round,

so they look almost the same,

but you'll find that when this area is only 60% of that,

then you're looking at somebody,

who has got the narrow face,

- Yeah, great.

- if it's over the 70%,

you have somebody who has the wider face,

in between, that particular position is the mediator

between the two, they'll work very well with the wide face,

at the same time be able to work well with the narrow face,

where the high in confidence and builds confidence

may not get on with each other,

because one to the other seems a little bit slow

in doing things, while the other one

looks at the other and goes,

"Well, you're a bit too cocky about things,"

- Yeah, yeah, brilliant,

so as Alan's just sort of showed there,

like that's one trait of you know, I think you said 82?

- Yep.

- 82 traits, imagine if you understood

how to be able to read people's faces,

without them even having to verbally talk

and that'll allow you to influence

and communicate more effectively,

by understanding that skill set.

- I've been doing it now for a couple of months now

and the results are certainly coming through,

just in the last six weeks,

we've signed up close to around about 60,

70,000 dollars' worth of training programs

and coaching programs.

- The most notable thing, that I've had within my business

is my conversion rate on sales,

I ran it at about a 50% conversion rate,

which is pretty good and I've taken that up

to around about 80%, 80 to 90% now.

- Straightaway, I knew it was something that I needed to do.

My industry, in the finance industry,

sales and adding value and creating value is so important

and straightaway I knew if I was able to understand

a little bit more about the clients,

before they even opened their mouths,

I could tailor my sales pitch to the clients.

- It was so inspiring, I actually got the rest

of my team to do it and it really talks about

how to actually profile people and understand people,

so you can build better rapport with them

and what it's done for me,

just to actually know my team a little bit better

and sometimes just to know myself a little bit better,

that's made an amazing difference

and then to take that to the next stage

of actually thinking about how am I actually gonna do that

and help understand my clients and customers a lot better.

- So I used these tips and tools to be able

to better communicate with potential clients

and existing clients and it also helped me,

'cause I run workshops globally

and it helps me to be able to in that instant,

be able to connect with my audience

and I found it absolutely powerful, the information.

- It's not only helped me in my professional life,

but also in my private life as well

with my friends and my family,

so I have no hesitation in recommending anybody

to do any program that Alan Stevens does,

he certainly has a tremendous gift

and yeah, anyone who does that program

will certainly benefit the rewards out of it.

- I've spent the last few months in India

and came across these two young boys,

who just need a little bit of medical attention,

but who we also got to know quite well

over the course of time that we were here.

We don't speak Hindi and they don't speak English,

so it's been communicating via hand gestures

and just getting to know them and their personality

without language, so that's been quite fun and interesting,

but when Alan got back to me with the profile

of these two boys, the more we got to know them,

the more we realized that what Alan had written to me

was completely spot on,

what Alan does crosses cultural boundaries,

language barriers and also it doesn't matter

what your background or your social standing is,

because he was able to give us clear

and really accurate readings on their personality traits,

their natural abilities and their gifts.

- I had Alan profile both myself and also my girlfriend

and we sat down and we had an awesome report,

which Alan kindly gave to us,

as well as a follow up phone call as well

and it completely detailed all my different

personality traits and also all of hers

and we both read our own reports,

we then swapped and we highlighted all the key areas,

which we believed were gonna be conflicts of each other

and it actually made it a really nice experience

to be able to not only know how I tick a little bit better

with some of the traits that I have,

but then to sit down with your partner

and laugh at how spot on Alan was with some of the traits,

some of the mannerisms, some of the characteristics,

I knew straightaway and I couldn't help but laugh

at some of the things, at how true it was,

so to then take that away and put together

some form of a working relationship with both her and I

and just be a little bit more front of mind

and became, well, I know that she's gonna

react in a certain way, if I don't do this

or how can I treat this situation a little bit differently

based on what her traits are,

so I found that very, very informative,

it was a really fun experience to do.

- I think it's just absolutely unbelievable.

If you wanna know more about Alan,

Alan is being tagged into this video,

you can click on his name, check him out,

find out more and see how he can actually help you,

whether it be around your communication with other people,

whether that be family, friends, partner, in the workplace,

whether it be to improve your conversations

around your sales, your conversions,

whether it just be to influence

and get to the outcome you're looking for far quicker,

I know they're the sorts of things,

that these traits help you achieve.

Thank you so much for joining me.
