You seemed late.

Mano po, Dad.

Grandpa, mano po (a gesture of respect)

Grandpa, do you know that I got high grades? I don't know if I will be good as Dad.

Yes son. Maybe you will be better than me.

It seems difficult.

We shouldn't immediately think that it's difficult,

because it will be easy if we will be happy in what we are doing and . . .we are Victoriano.

And do you know, when your Dad was at your age he is so too shy,

he even asked the same question you asked.

He is a fan of your Uncle and Auntie that's why he wanted to be good as them.

He always went to his Grandpa Narciso for the many stories about the Eagle.

(sigh) Time flies so fast.

My Dad is Shy?

You're kidding me.

It's true son.

I always remember the first contest I joined.

What is it, Papa?

This is it! This is what I want.

Hope that I will also have a medal like my older brother and sister.

That's it, son.

Even I really wanted to join in poster making contest, I'm scared because my schoolmates are good.

After that Dad, because of that you did not join?

You will have many events to wait my grandson.

Okay, I will continue my story.

Ouch! I was hit in the head and I even lost a peso.

Wait! What time is it?

I can still visit Grandpa.

Grandpa!

Grandpa!

Oh my grandson, why are you running?

You did not say that you are coming, I would've prepared your favorite snack.

Is there something troubling you my grandson?

Grandpa, I do not know if I will join the poster making. I saw that my classmates are good in drawing,

I do not know if I can.

My grandson, do you see that statue of eagle on my desk?

Do you know that the Eagle is my favorite?

Eagles have sharp eyes,

even at long distance they already see their target whether enemy or prey,

in times that the eagle saw what he wanted to get

it will make all of the preparations, it will not surrender until he gets it.

That's why my grandson when joining in poster making what you really wanted to do,

you need to focus your mind to it.

Do all the preparations and don't ever give up.

Do you remember what is taught in the worship service?

You need to always pray.

We always need to include that in preparation because no matter how good we are

and how much we want to win, if our Lord God will not help us, we will not succeed.

So, start practicing right now. You have to draw everyday to enhance your talent and above all, always pray.

Yes po. I still have 8 days to prepare. It will be on Friday next week.

And grandpa stories about the eagle continue and I was encouraged to always pray.

The next day in school, I saw Flor, she was my classmate, who was the champion last year.

She's looking at the poster and I am sure she will join again in the contest.

Our teacher saw her and said they expected her to win again.

I was scared but at that moment I remember the story of your grandfather Narciso about the eagle.

The eagles are brave, fearless, ready to fight anything he encounters

especially for its food or his home which he guards (defends).

The other birds fly away from the direction of the storm

but the eagle takes advantage of the strength of the wind when a storm approaches

so it can fly even higher and go to more distant places.

So I think, I need to be like an eagle, I must be brave and I do pray so, I'm sure, I can do it.

So, after that instance, I still am decided to join the contest.

During the contest, of course, I was nervous.

What happened in the contest? Did you win?

More than what can be considered as a win, for a lot of things I learned.

Your grandfather Abner always remind me that I should pray before the contest starts,

He told me to enjoy the contest so I will not be so nervous.

Our Lord God, Thank You so much for guiding me and my family every day.

Today is the day of the contest, I ask for Your guidance and continue to give the talent that I need.

Once again, thank You so much and forgive my sins.

I ask all of this through the name of Lord Jesus, our Great Savior. Amen.

After I prayed, the contest started immediately.

The theme was also mentioned about the proper care of nature.

In the middle of the contest, I did not expect to find a friend.

Lor, are you ok? Ah because I almost forgot my things so maybe I can't go on.

It's just ok Flor, just continue don't let your preparation be wasted.

I will lend you my things, just bear with it

This is the first time I'll join contest like this.

Oh! Thank you so much you're so kind even if we don't talk that much, you're still ready to help me.

Thank you very much.

You're welcome Flor.

The contest ended my son. I also had a good friend.

As you see my son, we are still friends until now.

Dad, Auntie Flor was the champion kid?

But may I ask, why did you help her?

Are you not afraid that you could lose to her?

No, I'm not, because I remember grandfather Narciso's story about the eagle that many people do not know.

Of all the birds, eagle is the most caring not only for her young ones but also to his fellow birds.

I set the eagle as my example when I heard my grandfather's story

and a child of God must always do good whether it is seen by others or not.

Isn't that the lesson taught in your previous worship service?

Yes. The eagle is really great no matter how brave and how fierce it is but it also shows gentleness.

So what's the result of the competition?

Son, I won third place and your Auntie Flor is the champion.

I was so happy that time and I got my first medal.

Ay! I thought you're the champion, Pa.

You know son, success is not just measured by a mere medal or trophy

It can be seen more in the things you learn and the benefit you get from those in the future.

Your Papa is right my grandson,

that's why your dream to be successful you can achieve it,

so right now you must have to work hard and do all the preparations

but do not forget to seek God's help and mercy and do not forget to thank Him also.

Your story was very interesting, Pa.

I was encouraged to study well and above all I feel especially loved by the Lord God

as what you always remind to me.

Let's just continue our conversation at the dining table,

I know that you're hungry already.

🏥 WHEN YOUR HEALTH DOESN'T FOLLOW RULES OF LOGIC 😷 (11.1.17) - Duration: 14:43.

It's trying to make sense of something that doesn't follow the rules of logic.

♬ Don't you think we're better together ♬

♬ Oh ♬

♬ I think we are ♬

Good morning!

Good morning, guys.

On our way to the hospital, and um...

Last night Peter edited the vlog that's going up today, and then this morning

he finished up all the work on the online store because we were announcing the Oliver's birthday month special.

The stuffed Ollie Boy,

and

before we even put the vlog up, because it's only 11:30 in the morning so the vlog hasn't gone up,

but one of you guys found it on the store before we announced it, so, the first Ollie has been purchased.

It will be on its way, Taylor.

(PFT Tech) Go, go, go, go, go, go, go.

Keep pushing, keep pushing, keep pushing, almost there, as far as you can.

Nice. Push, push, push, push, push.

Beautiful.

Good job.

(Mary coughing)

We're back in the car, finished our appointment and

(Peter) It's not very often that we're in and out in less than an hour.

Yeah.

Um, got blood work and

just waiting to hear if we can continue IVs.

It depends on how my blood work is.

So, basically, my lung function is in the same range.

It's up a couple percent from last week, and last week it was down a little bit,

so it's back to where it was like, but like we said before

It's, it's awesome that it didn't drop more. That's great but

sometimes lung function numbers are just a number and it doesn't

mean anything

good or mean anything bad. It just, it's there. So, at this point

we're just trying to like, get my cough under control.

My mucus is still really infected and nasty.

Still having low-grade fevers every day, like, that sort of thing, um...

So we're just trying to figure out

one, if my blood counts are stable enough for me to continue IVs,

and two, if they are stable enough we're gonna give this combination another week, and then reevaluate next week.

But, um, first step is to see if my blood counts are stable enough. I don't know. I just feel like

blech.

I just feel like, um...

I don't even know what the word is. Annoyed, frustrated.

The past few days

Peter's been, like, noticing just my, like, respiratory stuff getting worse.

Coughing and all of that just getting worse and I agree like it's

you'd think after three weeks on IVs that I'd be feeling better, but

That's the reality of living with

chronic

resistant bacteria. You go on medication, and it doesn't do a whole lot.

However, it did take away my headaches from my sinus disease.

I don't know, sinus

(Peter) Infection.

Infection, chronic. It's a CF thing. Um, so no more headaches, and I'm, that is

significantly helpful, I will say. Like, that means that I can be more of a human

throughout the day, instead of being like, "Ahh" with a headache. So that is really good.

But it would be great to be able to

kind of get my respiratory stuff under control

(Peter) So, we did blood work

Yep.

(Peter) And we're gonna see what those numbers are and hopefully they're good so that we can just give it another week on these IVs and reassess then.

Yeah, so it was

It was a fine visit. Um. I'm really thankful my, like, I'm grateful that my lung function didn't drop

but

even if it did we just keep on doing what we're doing, so, I don't know.

You know, it's one of those.

And then I'm still continuing on this Dexcom trial for a couple of more days and

we'll just keep doing what we're doing.

(Mary) This is cool, to watch them like backing it up. Wow, that must take some skill!

Yeah.

(Mary) That's a huge machine!

That is cool.

I think I just figured out what's so frustrating. It's trying to make sense of something that is...

doesn't follow the rules of logic.

So, I think that that is what's feeling a little bit defeating or frustrating.

We are trying to come up with a

solution or a treatment for something that is resistant.

So it's going to be frustrating because that's the reality. So, I think I just have to

realize that there are no perfect answers. There's not gonna be a one and done. It is a, it's a process.

It's a journey. I need to just breathe.

Keep doing my best and that's all I can do.

I think that's my conclusion. Okay. We're looking for a parking spot.

I just got an email and my blood counts are stable enough to continue.

Whoop whoop!

Apparently my liver numbers are going a little weird which I don't think is normal

but

she said we're just gonna keep an eye on it and get blood work in two days, and we'll see what happens, so.

All is well for now and we are gonna go eat some lunch.

(music playing in background)

(Mary) You should tell 'em.

Okay, so we came to the Cheesecake Factory for lunch and

it reminds us of

Well, it's the same company the Grand Lux Cafe...

there was one in Chicago and one time we ate there, and I think it was for your birthday, I think.

(Mary) Yeah, I think you might be right.

And we sat in, they have a circle room like this,

and we sat in the window like in this exact seat, I mean...

(Mary) It is very similiar.

I gave her a bracelet for her birthday.

(Mary) Yeah. It was awesome.

Oh remember. I took off the thread,

(Mary) Yes, yes.

She had a thread that she had been wearing for a long time.

(Mary) And it came off of your shorts.

Yeah

(Mary) That summer and we tied the thread on my wrist and we wanted to see how long the thread would stay there.

(Mary) I still have that thread.

Oh, cool.

(Mary laughing)

♬ Jazz music ♬

(Mary) It actually looks familiar. Do you think we've gotten that before?

I think a lot of places sell a similar thing.

(Mary) Oh, this is like the salad we got on our honeymoon!

(Peter) Yeah.

(Mary) Roasted pear, arugula. It's a flatbread. Mmm!

Oh yeah.

(Mary) I'm waiting for a taste test.

Oh!

That's good.

(Mary) And we got chicken Bellagio. Wow, glad we got only one to share because

look how much chicken that is!

(Peter) That is so big!

(Mary) Holy moly, that was delicious, and we are so full.

So good.

(Mary) Lunch for tomorrow!

(Mary) You know you're a CF patient when you have an extra sample specimen cup in your bag,

in your purse.

(Peter) You guys!

You guys!

(Peter) You blew our minds.

We had no clue you guys were gonna like these Ollie bundles.

They sold out and then we ordered

more, and so...

(Peter) So, you can still order the Ollie birthday bundles on our store

We just had no idea that we would blow through them so fast so the ones that are ordered

right now, you'll see it on the store,

they're going to be a pre-order for when we get the new shipment in two weeks from now.

So, you can still place the orders now and

We have...

Let's see, one, two,

(Mary) Two more boxes in the car.

(Peter) Four boxes going out tomorrow to the post office.

Peter's excited to take them to the post office because the post office workers know him because he's constantly taking packages there

and he's like "Our post office is gonna love all these Ollie packages! I'm so glad you guys liked them.

(Peter) Yeah.

(Peter) That's so fun for us.

Now you know the angst that has been in our souls

for the month that we've had these amazing little Ollie dogs.

But here's what we did. We brought up our fireplace, it's an electric fireplace, and

we moved the shelf that was there to over here,

and this is

this little corner, and this is my tiny room I've been talking about.

(Peter) Look at that.

And so, you know in December

sometimes you do like a calendar, and you put, like you eat one piece of chocolate out of the calendar

every day until Christmas? Well, this is a calendar for every day in November.

So, I've got, I'll show you. Did you see those downstairs?

(Peter) I didn't look.

Hopefully we'll see those pieces so we can start adding to it.

(Peter) Yeah!

So here's, here are our fall decorations.

Um, I guess this isn't quite done, but um, the little

(Peter) Cornucopia and the flowers.

Love it.

(Mary) And then we have...

(Peter) We have our lighted tree we got last year.

(Mary) And then just some little fall...

Oh, yeah, little fall stuff.

(Peter) Oh, yeah, the pillow covers.

Which I got these pillow covers, these zipped up pillow covers on Amazon for like $2 last year.

I can't speak to the quality of them.

(Peter laughs)

(Mary) Hey, looks like fall.

(Peter) Nice, and this little ornament here, it's an Airedale, but

we saw it, I don't know where we got it, but we...

(Mary) Clearance at Pottery Barn.

(Peter) Clearance at Pottery Barn,

and we thought it kind of reminds us of Ollie. Which some people, when they see Ollie they think he's an Airedale.

(Mary) Yeah.

(Mary) Right, Ollie boy? And then we say standard poodle and his tail starts wagging.

(Peter) Standard poodle.

(Mary) Are you standard poodle?

(Mary) You are, that's right!

(Peter) You are a standard poodle!

It was interesting, today at Target, Ollie and I were shopping at Target while Ollie, uh,

while Peter was working on his computer

at Panera. I guess we didn't vlog? I don't remember.

(Peter) Yeah, I don't think we did.

So, he had this harness on

(Peter) Yeah.

So.

Stop signs on both sides, just saying. It was interesting, a lady came up and was like

pretty, pretty insistent like "What kind of dog is he? What kind?" like, like she was very curious

(Peter) Mm-hmm.

Like a lot of people are, and then she started like I don't know if she was like

talking to him or what, and I was like "He's a standard poodle" and then I kind of kept shopping,

and she was like "Oh my goodness!" or I don't know, I don't remember exactly what she was saying,

but she started to like pet him and I was like

I think she said "Can I pet him?" and I was like "He's working" and she was like "Oh!"

Like, she had no clue and I kind of walked away and thought,

He's got two stop signs and signs that say "Do not pet. Working dog."

Like, I don't know. In the moment people are curious about a dog so they ask questions,

and they don't necessarily read the signs, and that's just part of it.

Right?

Part of it?

(Peter) Because he's just too cute.

He's kind of irresistible.

(Peter) I know.

(Mary) it's so funny,

I always get nervous when I'm like trimming his face really close. I'm like "Oh no, what if I don't like it?

What if I want his fluffy face back?" and then right when I'm done, I fall in love with his skinny face.

(Peter) Mm-hmm!

(Mary) And I just love it, and I'm just loving it!

(Peter) You're pretty cute, bones. Alright, guys, and we put up this little sign over here by the door

That, it's like a little chalkboard.

Here, I'll let it focus on it.

Things to be thankful for. So, why don't you guys leave in the comments what you would put up there?

I love that idea.

(Peter) Oh, that is a marvelous sight. The flickering of a fake flame. I think it looks pretty good.

Alright, Ollie boy,

shall we head upstairs and go to bed?

(Peter) Brushing your teeth!

(Mary) Mm hmm.

(Peter) Getting ready for bed.

(Peter) We've got...

(Mary) Did you tell them the sad news?

The sad news...

(Mary) About our dining room.

Is that I couldn't, we can't find, we aren't sure where we packed away the little

little, the tiny things for the tiny room, so

hopefully in the next couple days we can

find them and start the

November tiny room countdown.

(Mary coughing)

November first is

the room.

The room.

That's good.

Hopefully tomorrow will be a tiny thing.

If not, we'll fill the room with oxygen.

(Mary coughing)

So...

Tune in tomorrow guys. We've got a special guest coming.

Oh, yeah!

So, thanks for watching and

(Both) As always, we will see you tomorrow. Good night!

(Peter) Almost forgot about the after-party. You wanna dance in the bathroom for the after-party?

Where did Ollie go?

Ollie! (smooching sound)

(Peter) Ollie, come on!

(Peter) You gotta say goodnight to the people for the after-party!

♬♬

Good night guys, we'll see you tomorrow.
