Today we are going to talk about something that many of my students get wrong a lot of the time
This is the difference between much
many a lot of and lots of
Well firstly these two mean the same thing you can use them interchangeably
This ones however
Cannot be used for the same nouns and I'm going to explain how you use them right now. So
With uncountable nouns
These refer to something that can't be counted and they don't normally have a plural form
Some exceptions though are drinks if I'm in a restaurant and I asked for two coffees
Well, I'm really asking for two cups of coffee
That's why I can say two coffees with the plural
if I asked for two sugars in my team we
All know that I am asking for two sachets or two cubes of sugar in my team
So on the on their own we can't use them as plurals
The uncountable nouns go with much and much is something we tend to use in the interrogative or the negative form
I
Don't have much water
they have much homework and
the countable go with many
we can use these as
Some affirmative negative and interrogative
For example I have many apples I don't have many windows
They are round many goals
So for the affirmative much especially can sounds incredibly formal I
Have much water
It sounds a bit
too much
So instead of saying much in the affirmative, I reduce a lot of water
I have a lot of water. I have lots of water
Many on the other hand is more widely used with the affirmative. So I have many apples
I have a lot of apples
They are more or less the same in this case

CR: After I became leader, our members weren't really the type to tell each other their personal feelings.

CR: So it was a little difficult to understand everybody's thoughts so I think it was difficult because of that. Not only me, but I think the members also felt similar too.

MC: Got it. But honestly, there will be times of friction. Not even friction, it's just a natural process.
CR: Because everybody's female, and especially because it's a bunch of people who don't know how to express their feelings together, it was really difficult to say anything.
CR: That was before. To fix this, we put in a lot of effort. Now, we just say what's on our minds. We're a little too direct now… *looks straight at Hayoung*

Oh, The Mind!
It can be grand,
marvelous,
and beautiful.
It can also be your greatest source of conflict
and misery.
Your consciousness differs
from Universal Consciousness,
in which your consciousness is solely yours
and only serves you
in your time on earth.
But do not doubt that your mind is vital
as a human being.
It is an essential
and integral part
of our growth and expansion.
You use it to communicate with when you communicate not only with human
and physical beings,
but also
with non-physical beings.
In a way, it is the glue that binds your body
to everything physical,
and can also serve
as a bridge
to Source
and to tap into Universal Consciousness.
Your mind is subject to worldly influences,
and all the stimuli
that surrounds us.
It can easily fool you
into thinking that this life
is your complete reality,
and all that there is.
It can also fool you into thinking
that we are sinners,
that we are not worthy,
that we must be punished,
or that there is a God that rules and governs over all things.
On the opposite end of the spectrum,
with the right perception
and state of mind,
if your consciousness recognizes
and remembers
who you truly are,
your current life that you are living
can be complete ecstasy.
Your mind listens to Source
and your Inner Being,
that is if you allow it.
Your mind is extremely impressionable,
which you can use to your benefit.
Just as though it has been shaped by experiences,
it WILL listen to whatever you tell it to be truth.
It will resist at first,
because it is will be used to a lifetime of conditioning,
but
the more you are ever vigilant
at what thoughts get processed by your mind,
the more you will be able to have
your mind bend to every
one of your whims.
This is your life,
your purpose that you set forth.
It is time to take it back!
Time to stop allowing anything
or anyone
from taking the driver's seat.
If you seek true freedom,
you need to take control of your mind.
It is the first step to life mastery.
Everything after that point
turns into a domino effect
and all the pieces in this life
will start to lock into place
without the smallest inkling of effort.
You must stop being like the animals that roam the earth.
If you wanted to be reactive,
you would not have come back as a human being.
With enough patience,
you will reach a point
where the whole world will transform before your eyes.
Where you will never
see anything
the same way again.
Where sadness
will be blips
on the screen of life.
Depression
will no longer exist.
Anger
will be a fleeting emotion.

The Time Zack Morris Used Subliminal Messages To Brainwash Girls Into Sex - Duration: 5:15.

- It's the annual Bayside sweetheart dance!
Slater's giving his heart to Kelly,
when Zack rudely interrupts to help this woman
make up her mind.
Slater says Zack probably can't even go
because he's in trouble for vandalizing the pool
and using a teacher's toupee as an eraser.
And Belding's meeting tomorrow with his mom
to talk about how disappointed she must be
in her failure of a son.
Lisa and Kelly are loving the new tape from Bo Revere.
Mr. Belding says he prefers the sounds
of The Beach Boys.
Zack says he loves the Beach Boys in a pathetic
and unsuccessful attempt to suck up
to avoid tomorrow's meeting.
Ms. Wentworth is receiving various gifts
from kind students and also Zack.
She says they'll be learning about subliminal ads
with hidden messages.
Movie theaters used them to trick patrons
into buying snacks.
Zack says that would never work on his feeble mind.
Except it would.
Because it did.
Yesterday Ms. Wentworth played a tape for the class
with a concealed vocal track instructing them
to bring her all these goodies.
She warned subliminal advertising is unpredictable
and should be used with extreme caution,
words Zack ignores with no delay.
He wants to give Belding a Beach Boys tape
with hidden messages to get out
of that meeting with his mom.
Screech rightfully questions Zack's proposal,
so Zack calls him an idiot and punches him.
He records a tape saying...
- Zack Morris is a good kid.
- Lies.
- Zack Morris is a great student.
- More lies.
- Zack Morris is a fine human being.
- The most lies.
- Zack Morris is the son I never had.
- The truth, thank god.
Zack gifts Belding his surf rock propaganda
and says it's a new enhanced recording.
Belding says thanks but he's still in trouble.
Kelly accepts the invite of a suitor
who isn't a juvenile delinquent.
Belding is bumping Zack's brainwash tape
when he walks in for his mom meeting,
minus his mom, because he told her not to come.
Belding doesn't care because Zack Morris is a good kid!
And, despite his vandalism, a fine human being!
And, despite his failing grades, a great student!
Then Belding says he's the son he never had
and gives him some of his hard-earned salary
to have fun at the dance.
Zack gets a great idea
to use this wildly immoral machination on girls.
Zack begins playing brain surgeon
by having Screech distribute tapes to nerds
so they can get their dream girls.
It works like a charm and three young ladies
are helplessly duped into romantic relationships,
and probably their first sexual experiences,
against their will.
Then Zack sends Screech to the female locker room
in disguise under the alias Barbara Bush.
Screech swaps their Bo Revere tapes and is once again
forced to hide in a locker for one of Zack's schemes.
Kelly tells Zack she does not want to go
to the dance with Slater.
Then begs Zack to take her.
Then callously rips off Slater's heart in front of everyone.
Lisa finds Screech, in yet another locker for some reason,
and pleads with the guy she's been endlessly avoiding
to be her date.
Jessie's listening to Kelly's Bo Revere tape
and tells Max she has a date for the dance,
but suddenly wants to go with Zack.
Because Zack's the kind of guy every girl dreams of,
plus a bunch of other dumb crap.
Lisa tells Jessie the thrilling news that Screech says
he'll go to the dance with her!
But when Jessie raises concern,
Lisa says she's just jealous.
Kelly says she dumped Slater to go with Zack,
because Zack's the kind of guy every girl dreams of!
Then repeats all that dumb crap in unison with Jessie.
They realize something is very wrong.
Because they both had nice dates
and now they're fighting over a blonde scumbag.
They look around at Zack's museum of manipulation
and say it's like the school has been brainwashed.
They figure out Zack must've abused their lesson
on movie candy to psychologically influence girls
using their tapes.
Then recognize that locker room stranger was his accomplice,
Screech, after being forced to picture him naked.
The girls listen to the isolated vocal track and hear,
- Zack Morris is a blonde Tom Cruise.
- Among other disturbing falsehoods.
They devise a plan to stop Zack before he escalates
his tapes to ploys that will likely
soon include robbery and murder.
Principal Belding announces they're going to start
playing a song a day!
For funsies.
And today is this tape
from Kelly Kapowski's personal collection!
It starts with Jessie, and soon every woman in earshot,
including Ms. Wentworth, is aggressively coming on to Zack.
He does nothing to try and snap them out of it.
They swarm him in the hall like zombies.
Even Slater gets in on the fun.
Zack runs like a punk.
Zack bursts into Belding's office
and demands he turn the music off,
then finally tells him the truth
out of fear of being mobbed to death.
Mr. Belding says
Zack looks like a blonde Tom Cruise.
Zack whines at everyone,
stop loving me.
They explain the tape that's playing
has no secret message and this was all
an elaborate setup, a setup that prevented
everyone in school from getting an education that day
to end his reign of mental tyranny.
Let's review.
Zack Morris learned that hidden messages
are effective and dangerous and immediately
used that information to brainwash his way out of trouble
while for some reason
also making a grown man love him
as if he was his son.
Then set out to manipulate young women,
using nerds and mentally paralyzed girls as his guinea pigs.
Then made a guy invade a female changing room
to trick two of his best friends
into unwanted physical intimacy
while sabotaging a blossoming relationship.
And pushed an entire high school
to stop everything
in an urgent attempt to curtail his sociopathic
evil villain zeal for mind control
that should've had him imprisoned for life then and there.

So, if you have a greater sensitivity to higher frequencies, then you will probably hear Yanny.
Whereas, if you have a greater sensitivity to lower frequencies, then you might hear Laurel.
In addition to this, age could also affect the frequencies we hear.
This is because as we age, we begin to lose our ability to perceive higher frequencies.
Hence, older people tend to hear Laurel, while younger people hear Yanny.

How many words do we really need to know?
This is a very common question,
a question I've been asked many times.
It's a common source of frustration among language learners
I need more vocabulary, I don't know enough words
is what people say all the time.
According to Google,
there are over a million words in the English language
The Second Edition of the 20-volume Oxford Dictionary contains entries for
a little over 170,000 words.
How many English words do we need to know
How many words do we need to know?
there are 3 answers to that question,
there are 3 numbers:
The first number is about
being able to speak and express our every thought.
The second number is about
being able to understand other people in a face-to-face conversation.
The third number is about
watching movies, TV, passing a language test and everything else.
It's basically the size of your Active vs Passive vocabulary.
Let us look at each of these 3 numbers.
How many words do we need in order to speak fluently?
The answer to that question is in the most important piece of advice
I give every language learner:
use monolingual learner's dictionaries
monolingual learner's dictionaries use a limited list of common words
for writing simple definitions of every word in the dictionary.
The list is called "defining vocabulary"
according to Wikipedia,
in 1978 Longman was one of the first modern dictionaries to use defining vocabulary,
"and since then defining vocabularies have become a standard component of
monolingual learner's dictionaries for English and for other languages."
How many words are on the defining vocabulary list?
Longman uses defining vocabulary of just 2,000 words in its definitions
Macmillan writes the definitions using a defining vocabulary of 2,500 words
Oxford uses around 3,000 words
Here is your answer to the question of Speaking:
You need between 2,000 and 3,000 words in order to speak well.
With about 2,500 words you can express ANY idea
and make a sentence on ANY topic
from literature to business,
from philosophy to mathematics,
from sports to movies,
every conceivable topic
Granted, not in the most eloquent of ways,
but still,
you will be able to get your message across.
Between 2,000 and 3,000 words
Let's meet in the middle: 2,500 words for Speaking
How about listening comprehension?
How many words do we need in order to understand what
others are telling us in a typical face-to-face conversation
it depends
but in most cases
2,000 to 3,000 words should do
for two reasons:
Firstly, in a face-to-face conversation
native speakers are kind enough to adjust their level,
cutting down on the slang and focusing on more common words
The second reason you could get by with even 2,000 words
in a face-to-face conversation is that
you can Clarify and Confirm when you don't understand.
In a face-to-face conversation you could ask:
These are the few questions every language learner must learn first.
There is nothing wrong with not being able to hear or understand what other people say,
but there is plenty wrong not being able to ask, confirm and clarify.
How about language tests?
The answer to that question is once again in my favorite English learner's dictionaries
According to Macmillan dictionary
90% of the time, native speakers of English use just 7,500 words in speech and writing
Oxford dictionary gives a similar number:
7000 words account for 90% of the language
2,000 vs 7,000 is a considerable difference.
It's Active vs Passive vocabulary:
Active is vocabulary we use with great ease, on a daily basis.
Passive is vocabulary we understand when we hear or read
but don't use daily.
Let's recap:
2,000 to 3,000 words for speaking
That's active vocabulary
2,000 to 3,000 words for listening in a typical face-to-face conversation
That's active and passive vocabulary
7,000 words for language tests as well as movies, newspapers and news on TV
passive and active vocabulary
And the good news is that most language learners already know 2000 words
The bad news is that most language learners don't know
how to use them quickly and in grammatically correct sentences.
Most people can't remember the words they know
Remember quickly and use accurately
Because most language learners don't know how to learn vocabulary
