BEST UKRAINIAN METAL MUSIC VIDEOS OF 2018 - Duration: 8:08.
Hi everyone! It`s Honest Embers and today we are looking at the
best Ukrainian metal music videos of the passing year.
A little disclaimer: to this list I didn`t include any live performances or music videos
like «the band is playing in the center of the room and a girl is wandering around».
I mean, I really wanted to take only those artworks,
which represent the artistic value and reflect all the efforts invested in it.
Also, you won`t see here any metalcore etc.,
just for the sake of making this list shorter and more orthodoxal.
So, let`s get started.
Morton and «Horror of Daniel Wagner»
Fully animated and stylized video, which immerse you into the gloomy,
philosophical atmosphere of the song.
To my mind, in this 8-minute track the band was determined to show their best.
Great song, great video.
It is obvious that the creator put her heart in it.
For me, the only downside is that the story`s hard to follow.
At times you may find yourself fixated.
It feels like you've been watching the Maze Screensaver for Windows 98
Morton with their music video «Horror of Daniel Wagner»
Jinjer – Ape
Frankly speaking, I had some doubts about this one,
because it meets the definition of the «band playing in a room».
It`s not their best track and clearly not the best music video.
But, considering their rough touring schedule, I wonder how this guys manage to write new songs.
Also, it would be inappropriate to just pass by the work of the top Ukrainian performers.
It definitely deserves attention at least for
yet another awesome look of the lead singer
and the ability of a band to turn an ordinary music video to a piece of art.
Jinjer – Ape. And we are moving to the next one.
Detach – Supernova
Although I am not a big fan of computer graphics, I must admit,
that this video is one of the best of this year, and that is why it`s being mentioned here.
A decent song, the style of the video perfectly suits the track itself and the overall album
Particular attention should be given to vocalist`s profound acting skills.
Strong and stylish, this video had been made not in a day,
and that is the reason for it being in this list. Detach – Supernova
Chasing Embers - Silent House
I am not going to praise my own band`s song too much.
Instead, I`d rather share some insider information with you.
Overall, it took almost 70 people to create this music video.
We were shooting outside the city.
Production designer and her crew managed to set up a very authentic location
and some extraordinary looks for the group members.
In my opinion, it turned out to be quite dynamic and coherent.
Chasing Embers - Silent House
Velikhan – Hero
This is the most hilarious and extraordinary music video of this year.
It`s a good example of some quality nonsense.
Charismatic vocalist, good special effects, nice humor and quite catchy song.
Velikhan – Hero.
Chumatskyi Shliakh – Lamai
The classical rock music video with lots of cliché.
But, maybe, it is that foolproof formula which gives it some unbelievable drive.
Not to mention, that the video definitely has some seriousness and brutality to it.
Even without a clear plot, it makes you watch it till the end every time.
The speed, the flamethrower, the car explosion and the killer song – that is Chumatskyi Shliakh – Lamai.
Ignea – Queen Dies
Well, here we have a clear storyline and a very uncommon take on the music video production.
It combines the real footage and animation.
By the way, this video has the same creator as the Morton`s «Horror of Daniel Wagner» mentioned above.
Ignea tells us a fascinating story through the partially animated video.
And all this accompanied by a great metal track.
It is an awesome example of a video sequence becoming one single entity with the music. Ignea – Queen Dies
I intentionally didn`t make a top list out of it,
simply because each of this music videos is unique in its own way
and they are very different from one another.
Comparison is not applicable in this case.
None of them are to be ashamed of, and I am incredibly glad
that musicians in our country begin to make some real-deal stuff!

The Nat Reviews Music Awards 2018 - Duration: 8:40.
Hello once again everyone, welcome back!
I am your host Nattie and this is the Nat Reviews Awards.
It's the time each year when I take a look at the previous year of things I reviewed
and I give out awards to what I find most deserving.
This last year of music I have taken a look at has been a wide range for sure, but all
rather interesting in their own ways.
So without further ado, let's go right on in and give out some
awards!
The first award of the night is Best Collaboration, it's the award for the best song I reviewed
that was a collaboration between two seprate groups or acts of musicians.
The nominees are Born To Be Yours by Imagine Dragons and Kygo, Numb/Encore by Linkin Park
and Jay-Z, and finally Mumford & Sons and Baaba Maal's There Will Be Time.
And the winner is...
There Will Be Time!
I felt this song just had the best overall quality of the three nominees.
Numb/Encore was certainly good too but this is just my opinion for this award.
The next award of the night is Least Improved Group, it's the award for the group that improved
least over their last effort out.
There is no doubt in my mind but this year's award goes to
Imagine Dragons.
Origins was almost entirely a continuation of their Evolve-era sound with only a few
songs breaking that mold off that album.
So yeah, they get the award hands down.
Next up we have the Most Improved award, it's in contrast to the last award, but it's for
the act who improved the most compared to their most recent outing that I have reviewed.
The nominees are few, but they are X Ambassadors and Mumford & Sons.
The winner is...
X Ambassadors!
I feel they win the award because VHS felt samey alot, even if the band has a lot of
talent and are a breath of fresh air to their specific genre.
Their works for their supposed to be second album have shown quite the improvement
for them, they are fantastic songs.
So yes, they most certainly win!
We now come to the Most Average Album of 2018 award.
Why 'Most Average' and not 'Worst'?
Well, the albums I have reviewed this year havent been outrightly awful, they at worst
felt middling.
In this regard, the album that wins this is hands down Origins by Imagine Dragons.
It really isnt much more than average overall, even if some songs really stand out.
Now we move on to a much more interesting award in my mind.
A much more competitive category, that being the Best Music Video of 2018 award!
As we know, a great music video can really enhance a song, or even stand out on it's
own and be remembered more than the song is.
This award is for the music video I feel is above the rest I have reviewed this year.
The nominees are Youngblood, Joyful, Natural, Hey Ya, and There
Will Be Time.
And the winner is...
Youngblood!
I felt this video above the others was the most fascinating, it was a very interesting
video and all the nominees had great videos but Youngblood really went a step beyond in
it's story.
The couple in their last moments reliving their youth, I enjoyed that very much, great
video, I couldnt do it justice by talking about it, so go watch it!
Even if just to see the video itself and not just the music to go with it.
This next award will go to the song I felt was the "worst" of 2018.
Now, it's more accurate to say 'most average' as there wasnt a truly awful song I reviewed
this year, just mediocrity or 'meh'.
But it doesn't roll off the tongue as easy to say "Most Average Song of 2018", plus when
I say this way, you know what I mean.
Anyway, the nominees are Born To Be Yours, Let's Get It Started, and Lost Cause.
And the winner is...
Born To Be Yours!
Now, I know my opinion has been all over the place with this song, but it really is one
of the poorest song released by the group of this year.
To me that is, of course others can have their own opinions, but this is just my own.
I already gave my two cents on the song when I reviewed it, so I won't go on here, onto
the next award.
Now for the contrast to the "worst" song of the year, now onto the best song of the year,
by my own opinion!
This category was by far the hardest to make a decision on, all the nominees at one point
or another were my fave song of the year, but let's see which reigns supreme over them
all now.
Fun fact, all these songs coincidentally actualyl did come out in 2018, handy!
But yes, the nominees are Someone Saved My Life Tonight by Mumford & Sons, I Hope You're
Happy by Blue October, Joyful by X Ambassadors, and Youngblood by 5SOS.
And the winner is...
Joyful!
To be honest, all four of these songs are great and you should definitely check them
out!
However, the reason why Joyful wins for me is the version from it's video.
When you listen to X Ambassadors' stuff for this supposed to be second album, watch the
music video versions, the song is performed with live vocals and it adds so much life
to them.
The versions released as singles don't compare to the version from the videos, the videos
versions are superb, listen to the song by listening to the videos, they are much better.
Sam's vocal talent as well is amazing.
But yes, Joyful is an excellent song to me, each time I listen to it I always am blown
away and moved, especially when it gets to the saxophone solo.
Let me tell ya, one of the greatest sax solo's there is in pop music.
This is an excellent song and I really do love it alot, same with all the other nominees.
But yes, onto the final award of the night...
We arrive at our final award of the night, it's for the Best Album of 2018.
We took a look at what was the 'most average' album, now it's time for us to award the best
of the year, based on what I reviewed of course.
There are only three nominees as this last year I hadn't taken a look at many albums,
but the three I did are our nominees.
They are Imagine Dragons' Origins, Blue October's Foiled, and Brother Bear's Soundtrack.
And the winner of the Best Album of the Year, our final award for the night is...
Foiled by Blue October!
I do feel that Foiled is still a very good album from a group that is very talented and
has a fascinating story behind the scenes.
I did give my thoughts already in full on the whole album, so I will try to keep that
there.
But this album was a passion project for me to do earlier last year, I definitely think
more people should check it out, so if you can, definitely do!
It's my album of 2018 out of all the ones I reviewed, so I definitely think it's worth
a listen!
That was our final award of the night, and thus the awards show is wrapped up!
