Slower U.S. rate hikes would help stabilize markets: BOK chief - Duration: 0:35.

The nation's central banker says the U.S. Federal Reserve has struck a less hawkish

tone in recent months, and that if it slows down its rate hikes this year... that would

help stabilize the market.

At a meeting with the press Wednesday, Lee Ju-yeol... told reporters the bank of Korea

will consider both macroeconomic and financial stability in making its monetary policy but

that the Fed's rate hikes will affect policy to a considerable degree.

The BOK governor added, inflation forecast for this year could be lowered from the earlier

projection of 1-point-seven percent due to lower global oil prices.

Kim Jong-un shows strong will to improve relations with S. Korea, U.S.: experts - Duration: 3:08.

Kim Jong-un's 2019 New Year's Address was different from previous years in many ways.

A much milder atmosphere than the past, with messages that show a strong will to further

improve relations with South Korea and the U.S.

Oh Jung-hee provides an analysis of the speech with the help of some experts.

Standing at a podium, speaking in a hard and stiff tone,... while highlighting the nuclear

button on his desk.

That was North Korean leader Kim Jong-un making his New Year's Address at the start of 2018.

But this year, Kim Jong-un went with a softer, warmer approach.

Walking into a nicely decorated study holding papers, he addressed his people sitting down

on a sofa,... in a format that the Seoul government called... "unconventional."

And for the first time, Kim Jong-un promised 'complete denuclearization' of the Korean

Peninsula with his own voice.

"It is our invariable stand and my firm will to build a lasting and durable peace regime

and advance towards complete denuclearization."

Kim also stressed that North Korea has not been making any nuclear weapons -- which is

a fairly new claim that adds to the regime's moratorium on nuclear tests -- aiming to remove

the international community's concerns on nuclear weapons production.

Kim did warn of having to find a (quote)"new path" unless the U.S. takes reciprocal measures.

But he, at the same time, toned it down by leaving it as a possibility.

Some in the U.S. say that Pyeongyang offered an olive branch with sharp thorns -- but this

expert sees it differently: "Kim is not threatening to walk the new path.

He's putting much more weight on complete denuclearization and North Korea-U.S. negotiations.

He's saying that he can't help but look for a new path if the U.S. keeps on unilaterally

forcing Pyeongyang without corresponding measures.

The 'new path' is only rhetoric."

In terms of inter-Korean relations, Kim hinted... that Pyeongyang's main focus this year will

be on resuming the joint factory park, the Gaeseong Industrial Complex,... and South

Korean tours to the North's Mount Geumgangsan.

"When North and South hold hands firmly and join forces, no external sanctions and pressure,

challenges and trials will be able to get in our way towards national prosperity."

"It's a message that South Korea should move to persuade the U.S. and the international

community to lift sanctions."

Pundits believe that Pyeongyang has a strong will to enhance its relations with Seoul and

Washington in the new year, while continuing domestic efforts to boost economic growth.

They also say that declaring an end to the Korean War and signing a peace treaty may

become a major agenda in 2019,... as Kim called for multilateral negotiations on ending the

armistice status... and setting lasting peace.

Oh Jung-hee, Arirang News.

Admiral warns U.S. that China's navy could sink two aircraft carriers - Duration: 6:06.

A Chinese Admiral said recently that his country's military is capable of sinking American aircraft carriers in the East and South China Seas

Rear Admiral Luo Yuan's comments were made in a speech on Sino-U.S. relations which he gave on December 20, according to News Corp Australia Network

Luo said that sinking American ships would resolve the ongoing territorial disputes in that part of the world

'What the United States fears the most is taking casualties,' Admiral Luo said.He estimated that sinking an American carrier would result in the deaths of 5,000 servicemen and women

Sinking two such ships would double the casualty toll to 10,000.'We'll see how frightened America is,' he said

Luo, 67, holds the rank of rear admiral in the People's Liberation Army Navy, though he is acting in an academic capacity rather than as an active service member

He is the deputy head of the Chinese Academy of Military Sciences. An author, social commentator, and military theorist, Luo has been known to express hawkish, anti-American views in the past

In his remarks to the 2018 Military Industry List summit in Shenzhen. Luo boasted of China's weapons capability, which includes anti-ship ballistic and cruise missiles that could hit American carriers

Luo said that the U.S. was vulnerable and that China should 'use its strength to attack the enemy's shortcomings

''Attack wherever the enemy is afraid of being hit,' he said.'Wherever the enemy is weak…' RELATED ARTICLES Previous 1 Next 'It was a dream of mine to meet some of the sneaky

'I cannot imagine myself and Ela going through this nonsense. Share this article Share China and the U

S. have been at odds for years on a number of geopolitical issues, including Beijing's pressing of territorial claims in the South and East China Seas

In the South China Sea, the United States has criticized China's construction of islands on tiny reefs and shoals and its installation of military facilities on them, including air strips and docks

China claims 'irrefutable' sovereignty over most of the South China Sea and the islands in it, and accuses the United States of raising military tension with its navy presence there

Brunei, Malaysia, the Philippines and Vietnam all claim parts of the waterway, through which about $5 trillion in ship-borne trade passes each year

Taiwan also claims the waters.Taiwan is another sensitive issue that divides the U

S. and China. In Beijing, the island is considered a breakaway province that must be unified with the mainland, even if it means using military force

But Taiwan, which is formally known as the Republic of China on Taiwan, insists on autonomy

The democratic province, which receives American weapons and aid, does not want to come under Chinese rule

Luo warned the U.S. not to intervene in the Taiwan-China dispute.'If the US naval fleet dares to stop in Taiwan, it is time for the People's Liberation Army to deploy troops to promote national unity on (invade) the island,' he said

'Achieving China's complete unity is a necessary requirement.'The achievement of the past 40 years of reform and opening-up has given us the capability and confidence to safeguard our sovereignty

'Those who are trying to stir up trouble in the South China Sea and Taiwan should be careful about their future

The ILO Centenary – Why it matters to us all - Duration: 2:26.

[Guy Ryder, ILO Director-General] The year that is now beginning

will certainly bring great challenges to the world of work

whose actors the ILO uniquely brings together at the world level.

Great challenges too for the multilateral system

of which our organization is the oldest member.

And of course 2019 marks the centenary of the ILO.

We have a remarkable 100 years history of achievement,

sustained by the combined determination

of governments, workers and employers

to advance the cause of social justice

by making the world a fairer, safer, cleaner

and a more prosperous place to live and to work.

It's true that we have come a long way

since 44 countries founded the ILO in 1919.

Today we have 187 member states and for many, although not all,

the nature of work has changed out of all recognition.

But because of the challenges we now face

it's absolutely necessary that the ILO looks firmly to the future

as it marks its centenary.

We live at a time of unprecedented transformative change at work.

With the vision of the ILO's founders

described by some as a "wild dream" of securing peace through social justice,

it is surely not beyond our capacities

to build the future of work that we want,

a future with decent jobs for all.

And that vision and the political will that goes with it

it is more than ever needed

because for too many people

the world of work falls far short of their reasonable expectations.

Hopes and fears are unevenly distributed.

Uncertainty is high

and the levels of trust are all too low.

And this tells us that the ILO centenary matters.

It matters to us all,

whatever the country we live in

and whatever our place in the world of work or beyond.

Does a future free of poverty, conflict and injustice

have to remain a wild dream?

By coming together this year

to shape the future of work that we want,

we can provide an answer.
