Hello, everyone welcome to learning with friends. In today's video

we'll look at idioms related to the workplace.

That is those idioms that you are likely to hear in your office.

Knowing these idioms will not only help you understand office conversations better, but also let you participate in them.

So let's begin. The first idiom that we will discuss is ballpark figure - a

ballpark figure is an estimate a number that is not exact but comes close.

For example, at the moment we have only a ballpark estimate for the cost of the project.

When projects are launched we often don't know how much they're going to cost finally. So the initial cost has to be an

estimated figure it can't really be an accurate figure. This figure is what is known as a ballpark figure.

The next idiom is call it a day.

That means to finish work for the day. For example after working on the server issue for 18 long hours

Sanjeev finally called it a day and went home.

That means that sanjeev's work for the day was done, and he was ready to go home.

The next idiom that we have is get down to business -

which means to start working on something after spending time on other things that are not that important. For example,

after collecting inputs from the customer base the marketing department finally got down to business on the new campaign.

Which means that they had their inputs ready now, and they could start work on the new campaign.

The next idiom is come up short -

which means an inability to achieve something.

For example inability to meet a target or meet a deadline.

For example, the IT department had promised that they would upgrade the systems by the end of the week.

But given the rate at which they are going they'll definitely come up short.

This means that the IT department has not been upgrading systems at the desired rate and therefore

they will not be able to finish the task by the end of the week.

The next idiom is to go the extra mile.

When someone goes the extra mile it means that they are willing to put an extra effort for success.

For example companies should invest in their employees because happy employees tend to go the extra mile to satisfy

customers.

This means that if an employee is happy he'll make an extra effort to ensure that the customer is satisfied.

The next idiom is cutthroat which is normally used for competition that is fierce and

involves the use of unfair practices to eliminate rivals.

What does that mean? That cutthroat competition is the kind of competition that is not healthy for the business and

generally involves companies using

unfair in legal practices.

For example if we don't hire the best talent we will lose out to competitors in this cutthroat market.

This means that the market we are talking about is intensely competitive and the only way to beat the

competition is to hire the best talent.

Next idiom is get something off the ground which means to start or begin a project.

For example the engineering teams new project even though it was brilliant failed to get off the ground due to funding issues.

This means that the engineering department could not convince the management to fund the project and

therefore it did not get off the ground in other words it did not start.

The next idiom is in the black, which is used for any business that is profitable. For

example, we have just started this company, and it will take some time for our business to be in the black.

This means that our business is a start-up

and it will take some time for it to be profitable. In other words it will some time for it to be in the black.

A related idiom is in the red which is used for businesses that are loss making.

For example if our revenues keep dipping like this we will soon be in the red.

This means that our revenues have not been rising. In fact, they have been falling and

therefore our profitability is down and therefore we may soon be in the red that is loss-making.

Hi! It's Erika and Frida. And we are relationship experts! Yeah. Because we're

in one. Yeah. That makes us experts, right? Well it's going really well. Yeah. Yeah so

you know, we are gonna answer, you know, a burning relationship question.

Yeah and that is - can you be friends with an ex? This is, you know, it's

controversial. Yeah I mean the basic answer is yes. But there are like

some conditions. Like yeah yeah yes you can be friends with an ex... probably not

right away. Yeah probably not, it's going to hurt a

lot and you need some time to get over the relationship. And a lot of the time

we don't really want that, we don't really want that time away because

especially we're still hung up on that person or we're very used to spending a

whole bunch of time with them and it feels really weird to suddenly just not

see them, not talk to them. Maybe you still want to be around them as much as

you can. Maybe part of you is hoping that they

will fall back in love with you. Yeah and these are all damaging things keeping

you from moving on! Exactly yeah and I feel like you know, part - if you're

feeling like you want to hang out with them because there's some hope and you're

you know hoping that they will change their minds and like - you're not ready to

be friends with them. Yeah because you're not being their friend. No. And if you're

not ready to see them date other people and be happy for them then you're not

ready to be their friend. Yeah. And, and for some people, they can you know, have a

little like a wait time for a couple of months, some people need years and like

there's no right amount of time to stay away from each other. And then you can be

friends, like - Mm-hmm. Everyone's different. Yeah I mean I have

exes that I am still very good friends with, I have exes that I really never

want to see again for the rest of my life. Yeah and both of those are fine and

I've definitely done the thing where you like rush into being friends too fast

and it was super painful. Yeah. Oh yeah I've done that too and it's just too,

it's so hard on you and you're trying to like you know keep it together and be

like the cool friend who's like totally fine with it but you're really not and

it's hard to be the one to be like well I'm actually not fine and I can't hang

out. Yeah it's really it's too much pressure on you to like be cool you know

and like not have feelings. But you know we're emotional beings, we have feelings

and that's okay. Yeah so I think you know, give yourself all the time you need and

you know don't rush into anything. Yeah but then there's also this pressure

sometimes that like we shouldn't be friends with exes or shouldn't be okay

with the person that we're dating being friends with an ex. Yeah. And that I think

is just, it's honestly rooted in immaturity and jealousy. Because if you have a

genuine friendship with an ex then then that is a friendship you should be able

to have no matter if you were in a relationship or what. You know for me

like the exes that I am friends with, you know, we share time together and time

that was important in our lives and you've got memories with that person and

in my mind it's like that is an important relationship. Just because in a

sense you're just like really old friends. Like they've been part, you know,

they've been part of a life that you know for instance for us like one of

your exes has been part of an important part of your life that I wasn't, and like

that's important and that should still be important even if you're not together

and you don't love them anymore. You're just friends. Like that is still an

important part of your life, that's not something you just erase. Yeah so I mean

I have one ex in particular, we were together throughout high school and we are

still very close friends. He's like a family member at this point, he's really

close with my family. Like my mom at one point was like now you like - if you guys

break up you don't get to like take him away from us. Like he's part of the family

now there's nothing you can do about it. Yeah. And now like I've met him and we're

friends and he's super cool and it's like fun to hear about, you know, your

time in high school together. Because - it wasn't just like focused around the

relationship, it was like - you did a lot of fun things together.

Yeah. It's documented. To to hear those stories is the - you know, I

get to learn more about your life. It's not - yeah - oh that's the time - It would be

way weirder if there's like a whole bunch of pictures from high school

there's like a face cut out and it's like, we don't discuss that person. No

judgment if that's what you have to do. But - If that's what you need to do -

It's not my journey. No. And that's the thing, you know, if the relationship was toxic and not good

for you - yeah. Especially if it's abusive ot something. Yeah. You

know that's probably what you need to do. Yeah if it was a good relationship you

just aren't in love anymore, it's not what you thought it would be, it's not your soul

mate forever then - Mm-hmm. They're a guy and you're a lesbian. Yeah, it happens!

And fun fact, now he's moving to Germany um to be with my high school exchange

student. Yeah. So like it happens - life takes you into some crazy places. It does. And I feel

like, don't let society's rules on what you shouldn't do stopp you from doing

anything. Yeah and like other people's insecurities and other people's jealousy

and stuff. Yeah. I'm very lucky like it's never been an issue, Frida's never

been like, you can't be friends with an ex or whatever. Just neither of us feel

that way. You know, I feel like if someone was important in her life then I want to

know them and and she feels the same. Yeah exactly cuz like I don't I don't, you

know, she's not in love with him right now, like what's, what's - you know it's

nothing bad about seeing them or hanging out with them or knowing them.

Talking to them. Yeah. Because that just shows like confidence in a relationship

and if you are really having jealousy problems about being friends with an ex

then maybe you are just not very secure in your relationship or you don't really

trust your significant other, or they don't really trust you. And that is a

problem that goes way beyond your ex and that friendship, and that is a problem in

your relationship or in yourself that you need to deal with. Yeah. So you know. I

think do what's right for you but definitely if you want to be friends

with your ex and you're ready, yeah. All right! We solved this one! We did! Right>

Day 2 of our action packed adventures in Western Ireland

I'm in Connemara right now

I've never done this before

I think I remember how to swim

Let's talk domestic terrorism - as groups like Antifa start marching against white supremacists,

it's easy to forget just how many of the local terror threats are liberal, and not conservative.

There's one in particular the FBI is worried about - anything and everything associated

with Black Lives Matter.

The Daily Caller reports: The FBI Counterterrorism Division warned about the potential violence

that could come from members of "Black Identity Extremists", according to a document obtained

by Foreign Policy.

The Aug. 3 document warns of the potential violence that members of the BIE movement

could possibly perform against American law enforcement officers.

"The FBI assesses it is very likely Black Identity Extremist perceptions of police brutality

against African Americans spurred an increase in premeditated, retaliatory lethal violence

against law enforcement and will very likely serve as justification for such violence,"

the document read.

The sequence of events isn't earth-shattering rocket science.

Johnson reportedly expressed a desire to kill "White police officers" out of anger over

police brutality against black Americans.

The FBI believes that Johnson's actions were influenced over anger

from the

BIE movement.

Can India Counter Emerging Chinese Capabilities Like Stealth Aircraft

Defending Indian airspace from any potential Chinese aerial challenge or intrusions in

the future with the proliferation of stealth aircraft in the region, will be eventualities

that the Indian Air Force must contend with.

The People�s Liberation Army Airforce (PLAAF) is beginning to make a transformative shift

in its war fighting capabilities with the commissioning of its first fifth-generation

fighter aircraft � the Chengdu J-20A.

The induction of the J-20A will present a greater and fundamentally different threat

for militaries in the Asia Pacific compared to the Russian Su-30/35 Flanker family derivatives

that currently form the mainstay of Chinese air power.

The J-20A represents a fast-emerging capability for low-observable strikes inside Indian airspace

by China in a crisis.

And for an Indian Air Force (IAF) struggling to mass combat potential on any given day,

the latest developments in Chinese airpower require imaginative and cost effective counter

capabilities, given the limitations of the defence budget.

Stealth technology is a core component in the transformation of the PLAAF from a predominantly

territorial air force to one capable of conducting both offensive and defensive operations.

The twin-engine J-20A, built by Chengdu Aerospace Corporation, is a single seat stealth fighter

designed for long-range fighter missions which can pose a significant threat to forward bases

in the opening phase of any conflict due to its radar evading properties, long range and

ability to carry significant amounts of munitions.

The J-20 contains three weapons bays for air-to-air missiles and a variety of missiles and surface

attack weapons.

The J-20 also features an active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar, nose-mounted infrared

search and tracking sensors, and fuselage-mounted cameras to give its pilot 360 degree imaging.

These capabilities are set to grow as the platform matures in the coming years saddling

China�s rival air forces with a formidable challenge.

The IAF�s fleet of current ageing combat aircraft including the numerically dominant

fleet of Sukhou-30 MKI, has few answers to an aircraft like the J-20A.

Stealth aircraft will always have the capability to detect the Su-30MKI from very long ranges,

and can take positions to either avoid it or engage under the best possible attack parameters.

Defending Indian airspace from any potential Chinese aerial challenge or intrusions in

the future with the proliferation of stealth aircraft in the region, will be eventualities

that the IAF must contend with.

Currently, the IAF is on course to fall seriously short in both the quality and quantity of

its fighter force to pose a counter with its entrenched procurement plans out to 2032 when

it hopes to achieve its elusive 42 fighter squadron strength which the considers the

benchmark to effectively take on China and Pakistan.

The IAF needs to adopt a more flexible approach to countering emerging Chinese air combat

capabilities like stealth.

One solution could be to pursue the acquisition of modern Airborne Warning and Control System

(AWACS) aircraft, which can improve the situational awareness of the IAF and help better utilise

its limited 4th generation combat aircraft an idea of where to look for low-observable

aircraft.

Second, developing a modern and potent ground-based integrated air defence system (IADS) with

long-wavelength frequency agile ground radars focused on counter-stealth capabilities for

defence against China, paired with a smaller number of fourth and 4.5 generation multirole

fighters to provide flexible air defence.

This combination, far more than any aircraft which the IAF has in the procurement or development

pipeline at present, is likely to remain a serious threat to any low-observable would-be

intruders into Indian airspace.

Building on the acquisition of the long range S-400 air defence systems from Russia in terms

of quantity and quality could prove the first steps in the second option.

While analysts have critically pointed to the fact is that it is comparatively simple

to develop flying prototypes that look like fifth generation fighters, case in point the

J-20A or the Russian Sukhoi T-50 which India plans to acquire at some point in the future.

It is exceedingly difficult to transition to produce something in quantity that performs

like a fifth generation fighter, both in low-observability and sensor fusion-enabled situational awareness.

While western fifth generation aircraft may still have significant advantages in low-observable

technologies or situational awareness capabilities, once the Chinese J-20A enters the PLAAF in

significant number in the coming years, it will represent transformative capability jump

in any conflict over less capable militaries in Asia including India.

In my opinion, he raised very valid point� I will add my views in points

We are behind at least 10 Year in aviation technology from China and we have to cope

up this difference in next 10 Year means by double the speed of our current speed.

2.

We have to developed our own robust data fusion technology + Highly Secure Network Communication

for data transfer.

3.

Some people also give argument they achieved this technology by hook and cruck� I want

to say, Yes they get may technology by hook and cruck but they also mastered them self

to prove the world they can make any thing�

We're so cold we're in Kentucky you guys

It's beautiful here we had no idea. We're at the Red River Gorge

We've been doing a couple of different hikes and we shot a patreon class which was really fun

But now that the sun's starting to go down. It's like holy moly

It's getting really cold it truly is fall, but we wanted to actually tell you guys a very interesting story

so the story begins

Back in February when we were you know going to Southeast Asia?

And you know we had so much winter clothes that we're like okay

Well, you know what there's no room for a yoga mat, so why don't we leave the yoga mats at home?

We're going to Bali there's gonna be yoga mats. Everywhere. You know especially you know booths, so let's just buy it there

Well, we were wrong. It was really really difficult to find

Yoga mats that for some reason we would like get on our motorbike and drive

To so many different stores asking for the good quality yoga mats until we went to the Abood yoga center

I think it was called and lo and behold

We had a whole stack of

Jade yoga mats and we didn't know what Jade yoga mats were, but we have our original Jade, yoga

Mat that we bought that day here with us

And you guys like this guy right here has been through everything he has been on every beach

Lake Ocean mountains temples like on every on every video we shot through that full Southeast Asia trip and

every yoga practice we didn't personally as we had two of them and

Yep, we did we had no idea that it was going to be match made in heaven. Yeah like these mats

It's amazing because every single one we do we can say hey, we're planting a tree right. Yeah, we drove a mile

There's a tree that was planted

So we're really excited about this collaboration with boho beautiful and Jade yoga, I mean

9,000 miles and 9,000 trees is amazing. It's so cool. Yeah, and they also on top of that have given us a code

American Idol Winners Who Can't Find Work Today - Duration: 5:06.

There was a time when people thought that making it onto American Idol would provide

a hopeful singer with their big break.

While that may have been true for some of the people who've appeared on the show over

the years, the majority of American Idol contestants and winners never really hit the big time.

What happened to these American Idols once the cameras turned off and the voting ended?

Candice Glover

Season 12's Candice Glover tried out twice for American Idol before finally making it

onto the show.

Her powerful pipes wowed audiences at the time, but she's since struggled to maintain

her momentum.

Her debut album, Music Speaks, only sold 65,000 copies, and things haven't improved much since

its release.

Glover is still making music, however, releasing songs on SoundCloud and YouTube, which is

your best bet for hearing her these days, because her performances are few and far between.

Caleb Johnson

Singer Caleb Johnson's American Idol career was a rocky one.

He auditioned for the show in 2011 and 2012 but failed to make it into the final rounds.

The rocker finally established himself as a contender in 2014, and won the Season 13

title.

Johnson's success was short-lived, however.

Plagued by poor album sales, he parted ways with Interscope in 2015.

In an interview with Billboard, he blamed the label for a lack of support, saying,

"I want to find the right home and the right team of people that are going to get behind

my music and really do something.

What's the point of doing it if the [label] isn't going to do anything?"

After leaving Interscope, Johnson crowdfunded his EP, 'Born from Southern Ground', with

a second full album in the works.

Most recently, he performed in his native Asheville, North Carolina's BaconFest and

seems to be struggling to recapture the glory of his American Idol days.

Nick Fradiani

Season 14's Idol win came as a shock.

Nick Fradiani thought himself to be an "underdog," but despite his doubts, he beat Clark Beckham,

who was favored to win the competition.

His luck ended there, though, and Fradiani is still struggling to hit the big time.

Early in 2017, the singer left Big Machine Records after terrible album sales, telling

Billboard,

"It just wasn't the right fit.

I couldn't be more happy.

It needed to happen, and I was hoping for it."

These days, he's focused on recording his own songs and recently released an EP.

He told Digital Journal,

"I'm not obsessing over record sales anymore.

It's just getting the music to as many people, and hoping that the music turns them into

a fan."

David Cook

Season 7 of American Idol brought us the battle of the Davids.

Fans were shocked when David Cook beat the projected winner, 17-year-old David Archuleta.

Despite this stunning upset, Cook failed to achieve the level of fame that you'd think

such a victory would bring him.

Despite his first album after Idol reaching Platinum status, his follow-up albums sputtered.

The singer is still recording and touring, even a decade after his win, remaining humble

and hard-working.

He told the Del Mar Times,

"I believe in keeping your head down and doing your work for as well as you can, as hard

as you can, for as long as you can."

Phillip Phillips

Season 11 featured one of the biggest showdowns of all, as rivals Phillip Phillips and Jessica

Sanchez went head to head.

Phillips ultimately won the title after a record-breaking number of votes.

His coronation song "Home" went triple platinum and, for a time, it seemed that Phillips was

unstoppable.

At the height of his success, Phillips tried to get out of an "oppressive" contract with

his label, 19 Entertainment, who then counter-sued him for breach of contract.

He's not letting his legal battles keep him from making music, though.

He's still actively touring and recording, recently opening up for early-2000s mainstays

The Goo Goo Dolls, and hoping that his next album will make the Billboard charts.

Ruben Studdard

The 2003 rivalry between Ruben Studdard and Clay Aiken was one for the books.

Studdard managed to clinch the title by a margin of less than one percent.

Studdard's first album, "Soulful," debuted at number one and sold more than a million

copies in pre-orders alone.

Despite his early success, Studdard's fame didn't last.

After dwindling record sales, he was dropped from his label in 2007.

In 2013, the singer appeared as a contestant on The Biggest Loser, telling TODAY that it

was time for a major life change.

The stint on the show meant taking time away from music and forced him to cancel some performances,

but he remarked that it didn't bother him too much, saying,

"Being here for four months isn't going to kill my career.

If four months kills my career, then I don't have a career."

It turns out those may have been famous last words.

Even though his fourth album was timed to be released with the season finale of Loser,

it only sold 6,000 copies in the US.

Studdard has been struggling to remain in the limelight since.

Taylor Hicks

Since Taylor Hicks' Season 5 victory, the singer has been pretty successful — just

not always in the music industry.

The singer-turned-restaurateur hosts a food show called State Plate on the INSP cable

network.

While he's still touring intermittently, he hasn't released an album since 2009.

He's also got some strong opinions on the ABC reboot of American Idol.

In an interview with The Domenick Nati Show — after it was announced that his Season

5 rival Chris Daughtry would be on the panel — Hicks weighed in on who should be a judge,

"If anything, I think a winner should be.

Because, you know, what you go through to win the show is a lot different than what

you go through when you're third or fourth."

I ask Allah, Almighty, to grant you both, the good children..by His mercy, favor, ability, and grace.

And I've said at many occasions that..

By Hamd to Allah and by His favor.. more than 22 or 23 cases..

Some of them were diagnosed as clinically sterile..

And, by a grace from Allah, they said this.. in the form of Dua'a at Sujood..

Then, Allah, Almighty, destined that they have children..

to repeat the verse..

"My Lord, do not leave me alone [with no heir], while you are the best of inheritors."

This is from Qur'an, and Allah said after that: "So We responded to him, "

and if a person would ask, where did the number 40 come from?

Allah, Almighty, has tied this number with creation!

The prophet, SAW, said:

' a person is made inside the belly of his mother for 40 days.. Nutfa..

then Alaqah as that..

then Mudgah.. as that..

and Allah, Almighty said:

"[He grows] until, when he reaches maturity and reaches [the age of] forty years, "

And in Hadith of resurrection..

The prophet, SAW, said:

'Then people wait for 40..

.. then it rains from the sky..

.. a water like the semen of men, then people sprout..

So, the number is related to creation, from one side..

and also is related to blessings..

Allah, Almighty, said:

"And We made an appointment with Moses for thirty nights and perfected them by [the addition of] ten; so the term of his Lord was completed as forty nights."

And if a person would say that this is a kind of Bida'a[Novelty.. heresy]!

We can say to him, Bida'a has nothing to do with Dua'a, but this is like a medicine.. remedy..

it involves actions..

For example, a person saying that; Saying this Dua'a 40 times will grant a reward of so and so..

we say this is incorrect..

and it needs a proof!

But, it is documented in Shar'a, what we call Experimental Science.

Moses, peace be upon him, said..

As the prophet, SAW, said at the journey of Isra and Miraj:

'I had tested people before you..'.

So this is a kind of Experimental Science.

And, I've said, repeatedly, that I've tried that myself..

I couldn't have children for 4 years..

Then, I've said that at Sujood, 40 times..

then Allah,Almighty, has granted me, with His favor and generosity..
