Youtube daily will Nov 1 2017

A big question—if anybody's seen the movie 'Minority Report' where people are arrested

for crimes before they actually commit them, just because the data suggests they're going

to commit a crime—is: are we entering this world with so much data available?

And there definitely are clues on the internet that people are considering committing a crime.

People really do type "how to kill your girlfriend" on Google or "how to commit

a murder".

So what should we do with this information as a society?

I think we have to be really, really careful.

There's an ethical and privacy reason to be careful; as a society it's not supposed

to be illegal to have bad thoughts.

But I think there's also a data science reason for this.

One of the things that you do see in this data is that a lot of people have horrific

thoughts or make horrific searches without ever going through with a horrific action.

So it may be that when we have all this data we think we're just going to be able to

figure out exactly who is a risk of committing a crime or doing something bad, but it may

be that it's just really, really hard because a huge percentage of people look really, really

bad on paper but never go through with the action.

There is a study of Prosper, a peer-to-peer lending firm.

So people can apply for loans, and scholars analyzed what people wrote in their loan application,

and whether they paid back their loan.

And they found that you could predict whether someone will pay back the loan based on the

words that person used in their loan application.

So if a person uses the phrase "I promise" they're much less likely to pay back a loan,

because I guess everybody lies, so "I promise" is a clue that you're not going to pay back

the loan.

And one of the more striking indicators, one of the single highest indicators you're

not going to pay back the loan, is if you use the word "God" in your loan application.

And this is kind of a little bit eerie and suggests a potentially dark future.

It means that someone, a lender, would be "wise" to not give a loan to anybody who

mentions God.

If someone says, "God bless you" in a loan application they're put together in

a large group of other people who tend, on average, not to pay back their loans.

So there's real danger to some of this big data where a lot of the correlation—everything

kind of correlates with everything else, and sometimes for reasons that we don't understand,

some words people use, or likes they have on Facebook, predict that they're going

to do bad things, even if they're not really going to do bad things, and they may be punished

without even realizing why.

One thing you see in the Google search data related to religion is the questions people

have, and they're usually concentrated in the Bible Belt.

But people have kind of loaded questions about God.

So "why does God allow bad things to happen to good people?" or "why does God allow

suffering?" or "why does God need so much praise?"

These are questions that people might not raise aloud because they don't want to share

their doubts with others, but they turn to Google and ask some really, really loaded

questions about some of the stories that they hear related to religion.

Rob Liefeld Thinks Deadpool 2 Will Crush Han Solo Movie - Duration: 4:05.

Deadpool comic book creator Rob Liefeld has thrown down the gauntlet over the

upcoming box office showdown between Deadpool 2 and Disney's solo a Star Wars

story claiming the Deadpool sequel will soundly defeat the young han solo film

solo is set to hit theaters on May 25th 2018 after a long and arduous production

process that included the firing of original directors Phil Lord and Chris

Miller and the hiring of Ron Howard meanwhile Deadpool - which did go

through a director change to Albion well before production started comes out the

week after the original debt will may not have been a cross-platform

phenomenon quite on the same level as a Star Wars movie but in strict box-office

terms it performed amazingly well grossing 783 million dollars worldwide

despite an r-rating with its fourth wall breaking meta humour and charismatic

lead performance by Ryan Reynolds Deadpool found the sweet spot between

delivering superhero thrills and mocking the whole enterprise of superhero movies

creating a fun Huber violent action film that clicked with a much bigger audience

than was anticipated thanks to Deadpool the idea of r-rated

action blockbusters is now viable in Hollywood and that is reflected in the

fact that Deadpool 2 is being given a prominent summer release slot up against

the more traditional franchise Temple movie solo speaking to a panel at LA

Comic Con Deadpool comic creator Rob Liefeld talked about what it feels like

being a Star Wars fan and watching a movie based on his comic competing

directly with a movie set in the Star Wars universe Lee Feld fondly remembered

seeing the original Star Wars in the theater as a kid and being awestruck by

George Lucas vision however Lee Feld won't let his Star Wars fandom get in

the way of waiting for Deadpool 2 to prevail and head-to-head box-office

combat solo leaf felled could be channeling

debt will himself with the outrageous bravado of his statement but is it

really such an absurd idea to think that Deadpool 2 might outperform solo the

Disney hype machine will no doubt be in full force in the weeks leading up to

solo and when it hits it will do so with all the supercharged pop-culture power

of the Star Wars brand behind it it's well known that solo went through a

troubled production process but that likely won't matter to hardcore Star

Wars fans who will turn out in droves to see solo the first weekend nothing

compares to the Star Wars franchise for cultural significance and certainly no

one can outspend Disney when it comes to marketing but Deadpool isn't exactly an

underdog in this fight Deadpool has carved out its own place in pop culture

building up a large awareness with the general public outside of its own core

of rabid fans the Deadpool brand has clout - and there will no doubt be a

huge turnout opening weekend for Deadpool to whether Deadpool to actually

beat solo in its second weekend and goes on to have perform solo in overall gross

will depend largely on audience reaction to solo if Disney manages to deliver a

satisfying Han Solo adventure in spite of all the problems that plagued the

production then Sola will likely have the staying power to fend off Deadpool -

however if solo turns out to be bad in word-of-mouth arts its second week in

numbers then Deadpool - may very well kick its ass as Lee Feld predicts

Historical Lies That Will Make You Rethink Your Entire Education - Duration: 5:21.

It's not easy being a teacher these days.

Low salaries, long hours, and overcrowded classrooms are just the start of the challenges

faced by educators, who often have to deal with outdated and incorrect textbooks as well.

So it's no wonder that sometimes things slip through the cracks.

Here's a look at some especially persistent false historical facts that are kids are still

being taught in schools.

Einstein failed math

For decades, teachers and parents have tried to inspire kids who don't quite excel in school

with a historical fun fact: "Even Einstein failed math as a kid."

As a message of encouragement to late bloomers, it's great.

As history, though, it gets an "F." In 1984, a Princeton University team led by Dr. John

Stachel discovered that Einstein was actually a kid genius who had conquered college-level

physics by age 11 and was fluent in Latin and Greek.

The reason people thought he had failed math was simply due to people misunderstanding

the grading scale on his report card.

"Way to go, Einstein!"

So was Einstein actually bad at any subjects?

Just French.

French is hard.

Pilgrims dressed in black and white

Learning about the Pilgrims and their role in the European colonization of America is

a major part of any American's elementary school education.

Also a part of school: plays in which kids dress up like Pilgrims and re-enact the first

Thanksgiving.

Invariably, the costumes are ill-fitting black and white garments topped with big, black

hats, which fits with the idea of the Pilgrims as strict, simple people.

But according to Pilgrim expert Caleb Johnson, the Pilgrims actually wore clothes that were

all kinds of styles and colors.

The idea that they dressed in severe black and white outfits comes from paintings done

in the 1800s, when all people actually tended to dress in darker, more drab styles.

The more you know.

The U.S. declared independence on July 4

Fireworks, flag cakes, and barbecues — your Fourth of July activities to celebrate American

independence from Mother England are a lie.

The Second Continental Congress convened in Philadelphia on July 1, 1776, and the next

day — July 2nd, not July 4th — representatives from the 13 colonies overwhelmingly approved

a motion to declare independence.

It took them two days to agree on the wording of the Declaration of Independence, however,

so it wasn't until the fourth that they ratified it.

Since that date was on the top of the document, it's the one that stuck in everyone's minds.

But the whole process took a long time.

Members of Congress didn't actually begin signing the Declaration until August 2, and

King George the Third didn't get wind of it until October.

These days, of course, you could do the whole thing instantly with a simple Facebook post.

Abner Doubleday invented baseball

In 1903, Baseball Guide editor Henry Chadwick wrote about how baseball had evolved from

the British games of cricket and rounders.

The magazine's publisher, sporting goods kingpin Albert Spalding, responded by forming a commission

to prove baseball actually had American origins.

The commission's report, issued in 1907, was based mainly on a letter from a man named

Abner Graves.

He claimed to have been in Cooperstown, New York, in 1839 when future Civil War general

Abner Doubleday outlined a diamond in the dirt and wrote up rules for a game called

"Base Ball."

Spalding took that assertion for fact.

To do so, he ignored two actual facts: first, commission member A.G. Mills, who was close

friends with Doubleday, couldn't remember Doubleday ever mentioning baseball.

And second, in 1839 Doubleday was a cadet at West Point, not in Cooperstown.

These days, historians think baseball is one of several sports derived from stoolball,

which was played in England as far back as the 15th century.

Sorry, America!

Columbus had to prove the world was round

While few still think Christopher Columbus actually discovered America, many believe

the explorer's voyage was important because it proved the world was round.

But this was not the case.

In fact, people knew the Earth was round as far back as ancient Greece.

In the 19th century, however, writers like Washington Irving used the Columbus story

to take potshots at the Catholic Church, claiming the explorer had to convince superstitious

clergymen that the Earth wasn't flat like they thought.

The idea caught on with the general public, just another testament to the power of fake

news.

'War of the Worlds' caused mass hysteria

The textbook definition of "mass hysteria" is probably the October 1938 chaos that resulted

from Orson Welles' radio adaptation of H.G. Wells' The War of the Worlds.

Welles and the Mercury Theatre on the Air radio program presented the terrifying story

of a New Jersey alien invasion as breaking news, with on-the-scene reports so convincing

that hordes fled their homes in terror.

We know that really happened, because the newspapers of the day said so!

Unfortunately, the creative license hadn't ended with the radio program.

According to History.com, newspaper publishers took what few reports there were of people

panicking and built it up to create a story of far-reaching mania over War of the Worlds

and to make radio look bad.

Gotta watch out for those emerging technologies.

In fact, relatively few people were "fooled" by The War of the Worlds.

Just in case anybody tuned in late, CBS Radio aired multiple disclaimers reassuring listeners

that the broadcast was fictional.

Also, there couldn't have been widespread panic...because not very many people were

even listening in the first place.

Ratings reports from the time found that only 2 percent of respondents tuned in to The War

of the Worlds because it aired opposite NBC's popular Chase and Sanborn Hour, which featured

ventriloquist Edgar Bergen.

So 1930s Americans didn't believe aliens were landing.

But they thought a ventriloquist they couldn't actually see was somehow really entertaining.

You can decide for yourself which is crazier.

Who will Selena Gomez have a future with? The Weeknd or Justin Bieber - Duration: 1:52.

Justin and Selena are seriously making us think that they are back together.

Here's the new twist.

Selena is confusing us with her behavior.

She was again seen getting out of the house

to burn some calories riding her bicycle around

her Studio City neighborhood in Los Angeles

but this time she made her ride special.

Wearing a distinctive lightweight jacket that

used to belong to her rapper ex-boyfriend Abel Tesfaye.

Taking you back in time we had seen him wearing

the jacket back on September 3rd as he strolled

through New York with the pop starlet.

The 25 year old paired the turquoise, red and black baggy jacket with skintight black

leggings and white trainers and wore her brunette

hair tied back into a messy bun.

What remained constant in her look yesterday and today was the charming smile.

Though Selena looked like a free bird this also hints that there are still hopes for

her relationship with the Weeknd to work out.

This week it was confirmed that the pair had

ended their 10-month-relationship because

of their their hectic schedules and Justin Bieber's took this opportunity to present

himself as a new man in her life.

Who do you think Selena Gomez want to have a future with?

The Weeknd or Justin Bieber.

What Will Cutting 'Quantitative Easing' Mean for Europe? - Duration: 11:19.

SHARMINI PERIES: It's The Real News Network.

I'm Sharmini Peries coming to you from Baltimore.

The European Central Bank, the ECB, announced last week that quantitative easing measures

will be cut in half.

Although the European economy is not showing the level of inflation which the ECB was trying

to achieve, low interest rates may be fueling a stock market bubble.

Therefore, the ECB head, Mario Draghi, said that the ECB will no longer buy bonds at a

rate of 60 billion euros every month.

MARIO DRAGHI: From January 2018, our net asset purchasers are intended to continue at the

monthly pace of 30 billion euro until the end of the September 2018 or beyond.

SHARMINI PERIES: At the same time, CNBC is reporting that the European Commission considers

expanding the authority of the European Stability Mechanism, a fund which assists the eurozone

countries in debt crises.

This seems to be a move that will push the International Monetary Fund, the IMF, out

of Europe by taking over its responsibilities.

Now joining me to talk about all of this is Dr. Heiner Flassbeck.

He's the director of Flassbeck Economics, a consultancy for global macroeconomic questions.

He co-authored Act Now: The Global Manifesto for Economic Policy, published in 2013 in

Germany, and the book Against the Troika, which he co-authored with Costas Lapavitsas.

Heiner Flassbeck, I thank you so much for joining me today.

HEINER FLASSBECK: Thank you for inviting me.

SHARMINI PERIES: Heiner, let's begin by explaining the ECB's bonds buying program, which is

a form of quantitative easing.

What is the impact of buying back bonds at a staggering rate of 60 billion euros per

month?

HEINER FLASSBECK: One thing is, the European economy is very slowly recovering, which is

a good thing, but as I said, the pace is very slow.

At this point in time, the unemployment is not yet going down, and so it seemed that

he wanted to signal that the worst is over.

Indeed, for the moment, the worst is over, but we should not forget that most of the

stimulus that came to Europe in the last months was from the weak euro that we had in the

last year.

These things always happen with a certain delay, a lag.

My view and my reading is that what we have seen, the recovery in Europe since the beginning

of this year, was very much due to the weak euro.

Now the euro has turned around, is much stronger against the dollar, and that is why I think

Mario Draghi did not stop the program overall, but found, so to say, the middle of the road.

They said, "We will not continue like before, but we'll still continue," and interest rates

will be very low.

SHARMINI PERIES: Heiner, the monthly inflation rate, from what I understand, in the eurozone

is about 1.5%.

Why is Mario Draghi not happy with that and want even more inflation?

Doesn't inflation erode wages?

HEINER FLASSBECK: The inflation that we see, the actual inflation, the headline inflation

is not the real picture.

The real picture is lower than 1.5%.

It's around 1%, 0.9%, is the core inflation.

This has been persistently so for quite a time, for a few years or so.

They know the reason for that.

The reason for that is that wages are growing at a very, very slow pace.

You see in the United States they're talking about a slow pace of wage increases with a

rate of something like 2.5%.

In Europe, we have a nominal wage increase at this point in time of 1.5%.

It's still much lower than the United States, and as I said, the ECB has understood meanwhile,

it took them a while but nevertheless they have understood, that Europe's labor costs,

that is to say the relation of nominal wage increase to productivity is the main determinant

of the inflation rate in the longer term.

SHARMINI PERIES: Heiner, I understand that the European stock markets are experiencing

a long rally.

Germany's stock market, in particular, is at this time at a very high.

Is there a stock market bubble because of the low interest rate, which drives people

to make I guess more risky investments? HEINER FLASSBECK: Sure, to a certain extent

we have that.

We have in my view a clearly overvalued stock market, not only in Europe but also in the

United States, also in Germany.

This is, so to say, collateral damage of the policy of the ECB.

It's unavoidable.

They have no reasonable way to conclude from that that they should stop to avoid the bubble

in the stock market.

At least the bubble's in the stock market.

Certain kinds of theory also have expansionary effects on the economy.

I doubt it but nevertheless, so far they could say, "Also there, you have a positive stimulus."

As I said, the economy overall in Europe is still very weak.

We had a long recession that you cannot compare to what you had in the United States, and

so far, it's absolutely justified that they take the risk of a certain turnaround in the

stock market, which will not be too bad.

It will not be a financial crisis like in 2008-2009.

The stock market alone is not so important that it could trigger a similar financial

crisis.

SHARMINI PERIES: Heiner, given the role that the IMF has played in imposing austerity in

Greece, what do you think about the European Commission's idea to empower the European

Stability Mechanism to take over the function of the IMF?

I know the IMF played a better role in Greece later in the negotiations than it did previously

in the crisis, but will this have an adverse effect on the rest of the world if the EU

withdraws from funding the IMF and leaves it in the hands of the U.S.?

HEINER FLASSBECK: The answer is very much depending on what you think is behind the

policy of either the Commission or the IMF.

Let me start from the beginning of the story.

I am not of the opinion that the IMF should participate in Europe.

Europe can easily settle its problems alone.

It doesn't need the IMF for nothing.

So far, to take the IMF onboard in the beginning of the crisis in 2010 was mainly coming from

conservative German politicians who said, "We need a stronger, much harsher policy,

and that will not be implemented by the European Commission," which was wrong at that point

in time.

Meanwhile, things have changed a bit.

The troika was [inaudible 00:07:44] the institution that produced the policy recommendations that

were executed by the Eurogroup.

The troika was the ECB, the IMF and the European Commission.

The last years, when it became clear that the policy of the troika was a complete failure

in Greece and elsewhere, then in my view, and I think there are clear indications for

that, the IMF was the institution that was, so to say, the most flexible in acknowledging

that they were wrong.

So far, the IMF played not a bad role in the last years.

The beginning, yes, but not in the last years.

In the last years, it was okay.

Overall, if the European Commission has understood, but it's not quite clear to me, but at least

they know a bit better what is at stake than in the years before.

If the European Commission fully understands what is happening, and is moving away from

a purely neoliberal approach that it had for a long time, then we do not need the IMF and

Europe can do it alone.

We do not need the money of the IMF, nor do we need the guidance of the IMF.

As I said, it's not needed in Europe at all.

SHARMINI PERIES: What is the European Stability Mechanism?

What was it established to do, and what role has it played until now?

What are they suggesting in terms of its renewed role?

HEINER FLASSBECK: Up to now, the role that it played was not a good one.

The Stability Mechanism as such did not, as I said, do the evaluation of the country programs,

of the adjustment programs of the country.

That was done by the troika.

Some people of the European Stability Mechanism possibly, I don't know, played a role behind

the scenes, but overall, up to now it didn't have that role.

If you want to introduce it as a European monetary fund, then it's okay but the question

is only, what kind of direction do you give this fund in terms of the theoretical direction,

in terms of the dogmatic direction?

If it would be as neoliberal and as neoclassical as the Eurogroup has been I the past, then

it's useless to have such an institution, in my view.

This is a very open question at the moment of time.

As I said, at least the European Commission and the ECB, quite a few people have understood

that the old approach was totally wrong.

In my country, Germany, this is not the case here.

The new government in Germany have been more orthodox in this direction than the government

before.

SHARMINI PERIES: All right, Heiner.

I thank you so much for that update and I thank you so much for joining us today.

I'm looking forward to having you back.

HEINER FLASSBECK: Okay.

Thank you for inviting me.

Bye-bye.

What will curb the opioid public health emergency? - Duration: 8:11.

JUDY WOODRUFF: Next: our ongoing series on the opioid crisis, America Addicted.

Drug overdoses are now the leading cause of accidental death in this country, up 11 percent

last year to more than 50, 000.

They kill more Americans than either car crashes or guns.

Late last week, President Trump declared the epidemic a public health emergency.

William Brangham has our look at how people on the front lines of that battle are responding.

WILLIAM BRANGHAM: In his declaration of a public health emergency over the opioid crisis,

President Trump said the country needs to do a lot of things, from ramping up treatments

to cracking down on the illegal drugs.

He also said we have to do more on prevention.

He called for the creation of a national advertising campaign to help young people make better

decisions.

DONALD TRUMP, President of the United States: This was an idea that I had where, if we can

teach young people not to take drugs, just not to take them -- when I see friends of

mine that are having difficulty with not having that drink at dinner, where it's literally

almost impossible for them to stop, I say to myself, I can't even understand it.

Why would that be difficult?

But we understand why it is difficult.

The fact is, if we can teach young people and people generally not to start, it's really,

really easy not to take them.

And I think that's going to end up being our most important thing.

WILLIAM BRANGHAM: Joining me now are two men who have thought a great deal about helping

others avoid addiction.

Gary Mendell is the CEO of shatterproof, a non-profit group he founded to help families

cope with the addiction of a loved one.

He lost his own son Brian in 2011.

An Jonathan Goyer is a recovering addict himself.

He works for Anchor Recovery in Rhode Island, a group that helps try to help those who are

struggling with addiction.

Many of you will recognize Jonathan from our story about his group's work several weeks

ago.

Gentlemen, welcome to you both to the "NewsHour."

Gary Mendell, I wonder if we could just start with you.

What do you make of the president's call for this national campaign on prevention?

GARY MENDELL, CEO, Shatterproof: To be honest with you, I really didn't understand it.

His remarks were all based on the opioid epidemic, and the opioid epidemic is not about children

trying drugs.

There's clear consensus in this country that what has caused this epidemic is a vast overprescribing

of prescription painkillers.

In the last 15 years, the amount of pills being prescribed on an annual basis has gone

up four times.

And the amount of people dying of an overdose of opioids has gone up six times.

It's really not related to teaching children not to use drugs.

WILLIAM BRANGHAM: Jonathan, what do you make of this?

Do you think that there is some benefit of the president saying, hey, we need to try

to get the word out, whatever that word might be?

He didn't offer specifics of what the campaign might look like, but what's your take on that?

JONATHAN GOYER, Anchor Recovery: He didn't.

And I think there are points that we can benefit from.

I think if he wants to allocate dollars towards a large-scale media campaign, I think that's

a good thing.

I think we just need to help steer that into a healthier direction.

WILLIAM BRANGHAM: And what are the kinds of things that we ought to be saying publicly

over and over again?

JONATHAN GOYER: Well, that's part of the problem, is that we don't really have a universal,

global health messaging campaign going right now.

And that is what we need.

We need to formulate effective global health messaging towards this issue.

The other issue with his media campaign is that it's really only targeted towards youth,

which is a great audience to start with, but we have to remember that there are millions

and millions of people already actively addicted to drugs and alcohol, and we need to make

sure that we're targeting a media campaign towards those individual as well.

WILLIAM BRANGHAM: Gary, your argument that the crisis has really been driven by the overprescription

of prescription painkillers, do you think that we have gotten the message out to doctors

that these are addictive drugs, and we have to be careful in how we dole them out to our

patients?

GARY MENDELL: Well, the facts are that we haven't gotten that message out yet.

Up until a year-and-a-half ago, there is absolutely no way we could have blamed doctors, because

they were being taught to prescribe these pills, that they were not dangerous.

Well, that changed a year-and-a-half ago.

On March 15, 2016, the CDC issued a set of 12 recommendations called the CDC Guideline

for Prescribing Opioids for Chronic Pain, 12 recommendations.

And now it's on our health care system and our providers, our doctors to go to the CDC

Web site, use the training materials that are there, and adopt these safer prescribing

guidelines, which, as of yet, as an industry, has not been done.

WILLIAM BRANGHAM: Jonathan, I wonder what you make of the idea of prevention.

You -- as I know from you telling me that you started using at a fairly young age.

Is there anything that you could imagine in your own life that you would suggest that

we do, as policy-makers, as teachers, as parents, as people in society, that could help kids

choose a different path?

JONATHAN GOYER: Well, I think it's important first to back up and identify that we are

not in an opioid overdose crisis, but, rather, what we are experiencing is an addiction epidemic

of colossal proportion in this country.

And until we put it in that framework, we're really just putting out small fires here.

So, it's really important that we give people the tools and utilize a media campaign to

steer people into the direction of treatment and recovery.

WILLIAM BRANGHAM: Gary, what about your take on that?

GARY MENDELL: First of all, I would agree with what was just said, but I would like

to add to it.

In addition to a public education campaign, which, to date -- there was one years ago,

and it didn't work.

(CROSSTALK)

WILLIAM BRANGHAM: You're talking about the Reagan just say no to drugs...

GARY MENDELL: Yes, yes, and all -- and the hundreds of millions of dollars that were

spent per year subsequent to that, or just after that time period, were proven not to

work.

That doesn't mean they couldn't work in the future.

But I also want to add, there are -- our National Institutes of Health have given out grants

to researchers all across the country, and those researchers have developed programs

that have proven to reduce the number of our teens who use drugs and ultimately become

addicted.

For example, there is a program called Life Skills that's in about 3 or 4 percent of our

middle schools.

It has great research behind it that shows that it works.

Alternatively, there's research that shows that DARE, which is in about 75 percent of

our middle schools, doesn't work.

So, if we can move our middle schools from using Life Skills, instead of DARE, the opportunity

to reduce the number of our teens who ever use drugs is substantially higher.

WILLIAM BRANGHAM: Jonathan, I wonder what you make of the issue of stigma, and how much

the stigma over addiction, of people wanting to think that that's not happening to my family,

that's not in my school, that's not in my neighborhood, how much that gets in the way

of us doing good prevention work?

JONATHAN GOYER: Well, I think it's true.

I think a lot of people feel stigma and experience stigma and perpetuate stigma around addiction.

And we have to remember that, for every addicted individual, there comes an entire family,

an entire household, an entire community that's impacted by that as well.

So, my take on it is, rather than continuing to highlight the problem, which we have done,

we need to begin focusing and highlighting on the solutions.

And a great way to do that is to take stories of hope, stories of recovery, success stories,

and highlight those stories, highlight the families getting reconnected, highlight the

individuals getting back on their feet and going to work and becoming productive, responsible

members of society, because that's what we do.

And, as we all know, there are 24 million people in the country who have overcome addiction

and gone on to live long, successful lives.

So, I would personally be interested in hearing those stories and highlighting those stories.

WILLIAM BRANGHAM: All right, Jonathan Goyer, Gary Mendell, thank you both very much.

GARY MENDELL: You're welcome.

JONATHAN GOYER: Thank you.

NFL: 'Colin Kaepernick will be Signed Contact Within 10 Days' Says Mark Geragos| MK Today - Duration: 1:51.

Colin Kaepernick Lawyer Mark Geragos Expects QB to Sign Contract Within 10 Days.

Mark Geragos, the attorney for Colin Kaepernick, said Tuesday he expects the former San Francisco

49ers quarterback to be signed within 10 days.

During an appearance on The Adam Carolla Show, Geragos had this response when asked to give

a prediction about Kaepernick's future.

"I think within the next 10 days somebody will sign him," he said.

"I think somebody's gonna sign him.

I think the NFL has to come to their senses, and realize every day that goes by just proves

the collusion case even more."

Kaepernick filed a collusion lawsuit against the NFL owners on Oct. 15 after he was unable

to get a team to sign him during the offseason and at the start of the regular season.

In September, Kaepernick told Shaun King of the Intercept he was "ready right now" to

play and his desire to be in the NFL "never stopped."

After opting out of his contract with the 49ers in March, Kaepernick was hoping to find

a new home as a free agent.

He generated little interest from teams in the offseason, visiting the Seattle Seahawks

in May but walking away without a contract offer.

Ray Lewis said during an appearance on Showtime's Inside the NFL (via ESPN's Jamison Hensley)

in September the Baltimore Ravens were prepared to sign Kaepernick before his girlfriend sent

a tweet with a "racist gesture" directed at Lewis.

Kaepernick spent the first six seasons of his NFL career with the 49ers.

He took over as their starting quarterback midway through the 2012 season, leading them

to a Super Bowl appearance that same year, and had 16 touchdowns with four interceptions

in 12 games last season.
