Sofia Coppola Talks About Remaking The Brutal, Feminine 'The Beguilled'| HitFix - Duration: 2:31.

When did you come across the story and realize

that you just had to take a crack at telling it?

A couple years ago my friend Anne Ross said I just watched this movie The Beguiled

And she said "Oh I think you would love it, I think you need to remake it."

And I thought, I would never remake someone else's film

But I when I saw it, it just stayed in my mind and I understood what she was talking about.

And it's a story about this group of women, the original film was told through the point of view

of the soldier who comes across them.

And I thought oh I would love to know the story of these women and what it was like for them.

And just sort of tell the same story from the other side of it

To me this is definitely a genre film. It's a thriller and it even has some scary moments.

Do you think that you would do another genre film now that you've done this?

For me it was like fun and a challenge of how to do something, and I love the southern gothic

and all the kind of symbols of that of candelabras and spiky gates.

But how to do that in my own style was a fun exercise.

But I think I love that it was wartime and it's savage and brutal but then there's a layer

of manners over it.

One of the things I found fascinating was the role of etiquette

and how etiquette was almost this code that people relied on.

Yeah I thought that was a big, important part and also the movie gets so brutal

and it's under this layer of lady-like manners

Sofia sent us a book of like etiquette of that time, like different manners of how to be a good southern lady.

A lot of it had to with how to impress a man. Like if a man is in the house

how everything changes and how you're supposed to just do everything for him.

You do see in the film how that slowly

those manners go out the window.

That's the fun of the story I think because it shifts

and you discover who's really beguiling who.

This feels like a period film but to me it also feels very contemporary and very timeless.

Why do you think that is? Is it the relationship between men and women?

Is it the psychology of their characters?

The kind of mystery between men and women, I've always found that an interesting topic.

And then this is in such a heightened way, so I think you get to really indulge that side.

If you were to have one thing that people think about when they leave the theatre

after they've seen this film, what do you want them to be asking themselves?

I mean I love leaving that to the audience. I never have a message I want people to take away

But I hope they have a good experience, I hope they enjoy it.

Because it's fun to see with an audience and to laugh and to get freaked out.

To have a whole experience, so I hope people see it especially together in a theatre.

LEADING ADDICTION EXPERT TALKS ABOUT THE ROOTS OF ALCOHOLISM, OUR FAVORITE SPIRITUAL DISEASE - Duration: 4:44.

LEADING ADDICTION EXPERT TALKS ABOUT THE ROOTS OF ALCOHOLISM, OUR FAVORITE SPIRITUAL DISEASE

by Edward Morgan

Many believe that alcoholism is a spiritual disease, and that at the very least there

are real spiritual consequences of alcohol consumption.

Yet, is ubiquitous in our society, a strange culture which simultaneously prohibits those

mind-altering substances which elevate consciousness and help us to live more meaningful lives.

Alcohol is decidedly more dangerous than cannabis, magic mushrooms, ayahuasca, LSD, and so many

other drugs, but our cultural addiction to booze is evident everywhere.

Research has shown that even moderate alcohol consumption is extremely detrimental to your

health.

Research has shown over and again that alcohol is the most destructive drug known, and if

you look at the etymology of the word itself, its clear there is a spiritual dimension

to this substance, one that consumes lives and happiness, prohibiting people from living

joyous, full lives.

The word Alcohol comes from the Arabic al-kuhl which means BODY EATING SPIRIT,

and gives root origins to the English term for ghoul.

In Middle Eastern folklore, a ghoul is an evil demon thought to eat human bodies,

either as stolen corpses or as children.

The words alembic and alcohol, both metaphors for aqua vitae or life water

and spirit, often refer to a distilled liquid that came from magical explorations

in Middle Eastern alchemy. ~Zahrah Sita So why then are so many of us interested in

seeking oblivion with booze?

Surely the supply is put in front of us by the alcohol industry, but why is the demand

so high?

The contortions we go through just not to be ourselves for a few hours! ~Keith

Richards, Life, an autobiography In a recent interview with London Real, the

worlds leading expert on addiction, Gabor Mat was asked by host Brian Rose about

alcohol.

Rose first tells a very common story of how consuming alcohol on a daily basis is normal

for people whove experienced something in their past which darkly colors their world.

Mats reply speaks to so many of us, for it breaks down the drivers behind alcohol

consumption in our fast-paced, money and success driven culture.

He says:

Its an archetypal story.

First of all youre hurt as a child, and then you have to compensate for it.

So you compensate in two ways.

One is by becoming a success. When despite all of your best efforts in your successes,

and your ability to impress people, the gnawing pain still shows up, now you use something

to soothe the pain.

And what do you say about somebody who drinks too much?

Theres an old expression.

When someone has drunk too much, there used to be an old saying.

Theyre feeling no pain. ~Gabor Mat

In a sick society it makes sense that so many of us are addicted to painkillers, the number

one of which is alcohol.

We are simply wanting to feel no pain.

When you consider the depth of the opioid epidemic today, you have to wonder how we

can heal this massive spiritual illness, and hope is to be found in the wisdom of those

healers who understand the roots of the problems individuals attempt to

face on their own.

Morgan talks about Contoura® Vision LASIK at Price Vision Group - Duration: 2:39.

I definitely want the best so when I finally got around to having my

procedure, Dr. Price was my first choice and only choice really.

My name is Morgan and I had the Contoura Vision LASIK from Price Vision Group

and it's one of the best experiences I've ever had.

Yeah, so my vision got as bad as being a negative 7.75 in my left eye. My right eye

was a little bit better but not much. Working out with your glasses, constantly

having to push them up, it's just, it sounds silly but it's so terrible.

My parents had had LASIK from Dr. Price and I knew that he was the best. And

their experience was so great, that's what I wanted. It doesn't hurt. There's no

pain associated with it and really your only job is to look at the light. So they

do the procedure, 15, 20 minutes and Dr. Price sits you up and he lets you kind of

get your bearings because it's all new to you. And you open your eyes and he

says, "It's gonna look like you're opening your eyes underwater." Which is

like the best description. That's exactly what it looks like. It's a little bit

foggy and blurry. A little bit. And he said, "See. See the clock." I could literally

read the time. Which I couldn't even see that there was a clock before. I've had

glasses or contacts since I was 5 years old. I'm very used to that and then

suddenly in 30 minutes I don't anymore. So it was, I had to keep telling myself

"You don't have contacts in. This is your life now."

And it's, I mean, it's a big deal. I'm actually 20/12.5 now which is

better than average. Without a doubt I would recommend Price Vision Group. Dr.

Price is the absolute best. So having him with your most precious thing, your eyes,

you really don't want to take any chances. And with Price Vision Group you

know that you're in good hands. They're very experienced and you're getting

the best. And that's really why I chose the Contoura Vision LASIK procedure was

because that is the best. They, I'm better than 20/20.

Everything You Need to Know About Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy (Games 101) - Duration: 2:09.

The Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy is set to launch on June 30th, bringing a remastered

collection of the first three Crash games to PlayStation 4.

That's Crash Bandicoot, Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back, and Crash Bandicoot

3: Warped, all remade, packaged together, and sold for $40.

Developer Vicarious Visions has taken the original game's level geometry and gameplay

mechanics, exactly as you remember them, and then layered improvements to presentation

and quality of life over the top.

The visual boost can clearly be seen here, and those playing on a PS4 Pro will enjoy

an enhanced resolution of 1440p upscaled to 4K.

However, both PlayStation consoles will still be limited to 30fps.

The quality of life improvements comprise of a unified checkpointing and save game system.

Both manual and auto-saving can be used.

There's also a unified menu system, which keeps things constant between the three games.

What's more, Time Trials can be found across the entire collection.

Fans of Crash's sister, Coco, will be ecstatic to hear that she's playable across the entire

N.Sane Trilogy.

She has a fresh new look and her own set of "N.Sane Attacks."

With Naughty Dog having moved on from making Crash Bandicoot to creating big blockbusters

like Uncharted and The Last of Us, it's great to hear that the studio that started

it all, approves of Crash's new look.

Evan Wells, Naughty Dog's president, praised Vicarious Visions for the "amazing care

[taken] in maintaining the feel and soul of the originals," while bringing "the visuals

up to modern day standards."

Though the N.Sane Trilogy is coming to PS4 and PS4 Pro first, it's looking likely that

other platforms will get to enjoy the game, too.

So Xbox One owners feeling green with envy, can maybe relax a little.

If you are picking it up on PlayStation, note the not one, not two, but three Platinum Trophies.

That's one for each game!

Also, if you are pre-ordering digitally, look out for the free pre-order themes and avatars.

That's everything you need to know about the Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy.

Will you be picking it up?

OUR ANDREW DYMBURT IS GOING

THOUGH THE FBI AGENT IN TROUBLE,

DIDN'T FIRE THE DEADLY SHOT,

HE'S STILL FACING CHARGES.

ANDREW: YEAH, THAT'S RIGHT.

WHEN HE FIRED THOSE SHOTS, THEY

DID NOT EVEN HIT LAVOY FINICUM.

HE LIED ABOUT IT AND TRIED TO

COVER IT UP, LEADING

INVESTIGATORS TO QUESTION ALL OF

THE EVENTS OF THAT DAY.

GOOD PEOPLE ARE SITTING

CRIMINALS WHO SHOOT ON AMERICAN

CITIZENS ON OUR PAYCHECK ARE

WALKING FREE.

ANDREW:

OVER A YEAR HAS PASSED,

SINCE LAVOY FINICIUM ONE OF THE

LEADERS IN THE MALHEUR WILDLIFE

REFUGE TAKEOVER WAS SHOT AND

KILLED BY AUTHORITIES.

AND TODAY, AN FBI AGENT IS

FACING FIVE FELONY CHARGES FOR

LYING ABOUT HIS ROLE IN THE

SHOOTING.

SPECIFICALLY, SPECIAL AGENT

ASTARITA SPECIFICALLY STATED HE

DID NOT FIRE HIS WEAPON, WHEN IN

FACT, HE DID.

JEFF: -- ANDREW:

ACCORDING TO

COURT DOCUMENTS OBTAINED BY

KOIN 6 SPECIAL AGENT JOESPH

, ASTARITA WAS PART OF THE FBI'S

HOSTAGE RESCUE TEAM, OR HRT,

DURING THE OCCUPATION.

THE ACTIONS OF THE FBI HRT IN

THIS CASE DAMAGE THE INTEGRITY

OF THE ENTIRE LAW ENFORCEMENT

PROFESSION.

ANDREW: COURT DOCUMENTS ALLEGE

THAT AGENT ASTARITA LIED.

AND SAID HE HAD NOT FIRED HIS

WEAPON IN THE STANDOFF WITH

FINNICUM WHEN HE KNEW HE DID.

WE FOUND POSSIBLE CRIMINAL

CONDUCT BY SOME INVOLVED FBI HRT

AGENTS.

ANDREW: THE SHOTS ASTARTIA FIRED

ARE BELIEVED TO HAVE MISSED AND

IT WAS AN OSP TROOPER THAT

KILLED FINICUM.

AFTER FINICUM DISOBEYED OFFICERS

DURING A TRAFFIC STOP.

CRASHED INTO AN EMBANKMENT.

GOT OUT OF HIS VEHICLE AND

REACHED FOR A GUN ACCORDING TO

INVESTIGATORS.

SO OFFICIALS SAY THE ACCUSATIONS

AGAINST AGENT ASTARITA DOES NOT

CHANGE THE RULING THAT THE

OVERALL SHOOTING WAS JUSTIFIED,

.

KELLI STWEART IS A FAMILY FRIEND

TO LAVOY FINICUM.

SHE BELIEVES LAW ENFORCEMENT

ISN'T BEING FULLY TRANSPARENT.

THEY HID THE FACT THAT SHOTS

WERE FIRED AND HERE WE'VE WAITED

17 MONTHS FOR A SIMPLE

INDICTMENT TO COME DOWN.

ANDREW: AND ALTHOUGH ASTARITA IS

FACING CHARGES THAT CARRY

PENALITIES OF UP TO 55 YEARS IN

PRISON, STEWART THINKS IT'S NOT

ENOUGH.

THE FACT THAT HIS INDICTMENT

ISN'T CONSPIRACY TO IMPEDE A

FEDERAL INVESTIGATION, ATTEMPTED

MURDER, AND OBSTRUCTION OF

JUSTICE SHOWS ME THAT JUSTICE

STILL IS NOT BEING SERVED.

When CNN Got Caught In A SICK Lie About Trump, They Just Did The UNBELIEVABLE To Cover Their Tracks - Duration: 2:34.

When CNN Got Caught In A SICK Lie About Trump, They Just Did The UNBELIEVABLE To Cover Their

Tracks

By Emily Nowak

Very Fake News Network CNN has landed itself in hot water again after having to delete

and retract a story that linked Trump campaign team executive Anthony Scaramucci to the Kremlin-controlled

Russian Direct Investment Fund.

In place of the story is now an Editors note that says:

That story did not meet CNNs editorial standards and has been retracted. Links to

the story have been disabled. CNN apologises to Mr Scaramucci.

The story itself fell very short of any journalistic standards, relying on a single, anonymous

source that claimed the Senate Intelligence committee was looking into a $10-billion

Russian investment fund whose chief executive met with a member of [the Trump] transition

team four days before Trumps inauguration.

This story was a total fabrication. At least it was retracted, but how this obvious hit

piece ever got past CNN editors proves just how much the news network has frittered away

any semblance of journalistic integrity.

Check out President Trump call out CNN in one of his press conferences in this short

clip- its a classic!

CNN is hoping to turn itself around, however- a source at CNN told Buzzfeed that the false

report was a massive, massive f*** up and people will be disciplined.

A leaked email from CNNMoneys executive editor Rich Barbieri warned journalists against

publishing more of these tenuous claims, saying:

No one should publish any content involving Russia without coming to me and [CNNs premium

video content VP] Jason [Farkas]. This applied to social, video, editorial, and MoneyStream.

No exceptions.

Who knows, maybe CNN is trying to turn a new leaf. The anti-Trump bias has been so strong

at the network though that they will have a lot of making up to do.

CNN definitely does not want these stories getting out, so thats why were asking

you to share it 10,000 times so everyone knows about their downfall!

So, uh, that's what's gonna happen today.

Alright.

Let her rip.

- Um, Okay. Where to begin.

Um, turn off the ringer. (cell phone ringing)

That's where to start.

- Always.

- Now, really, where to start?

I think, the key thing that I thought was maybe missing

from the long swim video,

and your day after long swim video,

was talking to the Trainiacs about the emotions

that you felt while you were swimming,

because you didn't just paddle for 10 hours

and then you were done,

you go through a lot during those 10 hours,

so, what were the emotions that you felt,

that you cycled through?

- Started out as, excitement in the first few hours.

The first two hours was, it felt easy,

in the video, I made a comment that

it felt like walking. - Felt like walking.

- And, I knew that around three and a half hours,

it would get tough, and it did,

but I didn't really realize the extent to the toll

it was gonna take on my body.

I knew that I was gonna be in pain,

and that there was gonna be a bunch of mental chatter,

but it was actually like,

it was so far beyond that pain and mental chatter that

I think the cold,

it basically skipped me through that elation and excitement,

and went all the way through pain, like, right away.

And, I think my body started actually shutting down,

and, before I could even really feel pain,

my brain started shutting down.

Like, I swam a ton of it with my eyes closed,

not because of any reason besides

I just couldn't process visual images very well.

I couldn't process people talking to me very well.

- And then something you said

in one of the radio interviews that you did,

was that you, that range of emotions included,

despair, sadness, fear, loneliness,

I don't think people necessarily think about that.

They just think about, "Okay, it hurts,"

and you're trying to say to yourself

"Keep going, keep going,"

but those, those were a totally different range of emotions

than I think people would expect you to feel.

- It was loneliness, it was sadness,

because I wasn't able to swim with Pat and Jacque,

and the whole point of this was to do it together,

and because my brain wasn't working,

I couldn't process "Okay, when I stop,

I know that I start getting frozen,

and I can't tread water for more than a few seconds

without having to keep going."

I was just upset at them,

because I thought that they abandoned me.

It's not a rational thought,

it's just, your basic emotions are happiness,

anger, sadness is maybe like a mixture of those two,

and you just take the most basic emotions that I had,

and that's all the thoughts that were going through my head.

It was never fear.

I don't really know how to describe it.

It was just a feeling of being alone.

- Mhmm. I think that's important to point out,

because when you listen to interviews with the pros

after Kona, and you ask Mirinda Carfrae,

"What was it that allowed you to make that amazing comeback,

and win the race?"

And she goes into sort of a pat answer

about just pushing through and other people

having a great race, and the motivation,

but you never hear about like, "I wanted to cry."

"It hurt. I felt lonely. I felt sad that

my teammates abandoned me." - I cried.

- Yeah, so, I think that's

important to hear, - I cried in my goggles.

- from someone like you,

because a lot of folks watching your videos

are trying to get motivation.

37 kilometers is an amazing feat, yes,

but he is still just like you guys,

and going through those emotions.

Cause a lot of people in the comments

were talking about, like,

"I'm gonna do 1,000 meters, and it's scary to me like that."

You might go through those same emotions too,

but you can push through, and that's important too.

- It wasn't that long ago that,

when I started originally swimming

with people like Pat and Jacque, and more elite triathletes,

that I realized how much further

in their training lifespan they were than I was,

and it was five or six years ago,

I ended up just completely dismantling my swim,

and swimming in the shallow end of the pool

for about three months.

Then it wasn't a matter of,

"Okay, I'm struggling just to stay afloat,"

and that was the biggest thing

that I had to be able to get over too.

To contemplate doing something like this,

and then once you do that, it's not a matter of like,

fear of water that I've got to overcome,

it's how far can I push my body.

- Pat had to pull out because he knows his body so well

that he knew hypothermia was setting in,

it was getting dangerous,

he couldn't even do the strokes anymore.

We could even tell from the boat it wasn't good.

Cause Pat's a machine.

One of the best triathletes in this province ever.

And to see him struggle, we knew something wasn't right.

So, he knew to pull out.

For you, you didn't have that,

you weren't going through that,

but you were going through,

"This is terrible, this hurts," et cetera,

what allowed you to keep going,

and bring that back, of course,

to the amateur triathletes here,

who might have trouble completing that sprint swim.

- So really good question

that I don't really have a great answer to.

The only thing that was going through my head

was such a basic thought of,

I recognized that it was difficult,

but there wasn't such a huge range of challenges.

I knew it was basically just me against me.

I wonder if the meditating that I've done over the last year

has helped simplify a lot of the variables and challenges

that could come into my head, because I remember,

the last long swim that we did,

there was so much chatter from all different sides of like,

pain, difficulty, - Quit, quit, quit, quit,

- fear, quit, nutrition, - quit, quit, quit.

- stomach. In this case, I tried to just break it down to,

"What are the things that I have to do to finish this?"

And it was putting one arm in front of the other,

and not stopping.

- But, I think a lot of people will ask you,

"Okay, that's great.

That's lovely to say 'Just don't stop.'"

What advice can you give to people, I guess,

is what I'm trying to ask,

who are saying "Okay, that's awesome,

how can I not quit like you didn't quit?"

- That's really tough,

cause I think that it's different for everyone.

I think that everyone has to find their reason to not quit.

A charity, or whether it's your family,

or whether it's your kids, or personal satisfaction.

In my case, it was having thousands of people

all around the world that I could motivate,

and celebrate with,

and that sense of accomplishment that I could

share with a lot of people. - Too many people to let down

if you stopped.

- No, it wasn't so much that.

It's not that I didn't want to let people down,

it was, I wanted more people to succeed.

(cheering)

Now, you and Melissa craftily edited this out,

but when you got out of the boat,

your mom was the first one to come and give you a hug,

and both of you started sobbing.

This is a man, in all the years I've known you,

I've seen you get teary, like twice.

- This is where she gets the tears. They're coming.

- Um. So, your mom hugged you, and you sobbed.

- That happened when I hugged her, and when I hugged you,

when I hugged my dad, um, pretty much everyone.

That collage of so many emotions, of happiness,

of having no reason to be afraid anymore,

I don't know what is the one thing.

It's overwhelming and uncontrollable at that point.

- What did it mean to you, though,

to have all those people on shore waiting for you,

your aunt and your cousins showed up,

and your mom came towards the end

to make sure to be there for the finish.

And really, having your dad and brother with you for,

almost all of the day, cause they ran the support boat,

and gave him his nutrition every thirty minutes.

They were his boat.

We were ahead with Jacque and Pat in the other boat,

and I was doing all the shooting.

They were in a smaller fishing boat,

so there wasn't really room

for me and all the vlogging equipment.

- Having your parents there, I mean,

years and years of memories

that all bubble to the surface during times like that.

It's overwhelming to have parents there,

to have my brother there,

who hasn't really ever been a part of anything

that has been triathlon or endurance related,

it's not his bag.

And have him to share that with, that was really cool.

Pregnant sister.

- Mhmm. Waddled along the shore. Poor Kara.

- Waddling along the side of the shore.

You there supporting me.

That flood of emotion that you get to share that experience

with the people that are closest to you.

I mean, that's part of the why.

Knowing that I wanted to have that feeling at the end.

You don't get that with a win at work,

or a promotion, or an awesome phone call from a client,

you get that from coming from the lowest lows

and getting to the highest highs

with the people that are most important to you right there.

Like hell yeah, I'm gonna cry.

- It's funny when you told me after,

that Barry, your dad, and Jessie, your brother,

were both, "You got it! You're doing great!"

every time you went up for nutrition,

and you were like "Yeah."

Cause you just don't have - Yeah.

- the brainpower to sort of process,

or respond in any other way, and hopefully,

I would think everyone on the boat sort of understands

that you don't have much to give back,

even when we're cheering you on "You're doing awesome!

Not much longer!" Whatever, and "Mm." Is the answer.

- Yeah, that's about what you can give at that point.

You don't have anything besides

the energy to focus on the next swim stroke.

And even eating is difficult. Those treats that I had,

they were good, they tasted good,

but getting the brain cells around "Okay, I have to eat,"

like, you're not even there to enjoy it.

So, it's hard to enjoy - Mhmm.

- that time with your family while you're going through it,

and it all builds up, - Mhmm.

- in a big bag of tears at the end.

- Mm. Couple of quick questions,

what part of your body was most sore during,

and what part of your body is most sore after, now?

- Most sore during, was back of the neck,

from looking up and sighting, constantly.

It was every, early on, just kind of naturally, I sight

every about, three or five strokes.

And then, towards the end,

because I was swimming basically with my eyes closed,

it would be every tenth or twelfth stroke.

And it hurt a lot.

Right now, - Oh yeah, you've talked

- this. Wrist. - about the wrist.

- I think wrist is sprained. - And we don't know why.

- Yeah. Don't know why.

- You also said though,

your abs are sore from all the kicky kick.

- Yeah.

- Kicky kick. Technical term. - Yes.

Abs aren't bad right now.

- Oh no? - They were kind of crampy,

more just fatigued, during the race.

- There are a lot of questions,

and they were asked on the radio as well today,

about bathroom breaks.

There were no bathroom breaks,

this was a continuous swim - The entire swim

is a bathroom break - Right. Well.

- as far as I'm concerned.

- But you didn't use your wetsuit as a diaper.

- Jacque did.

- No, Jacque didn't. - Oh, right. (laughs)

- Jacque peeled his wetsuit off.

But anyway. While swimming. Never stopped swimming.

But what happens? Like, how?

You didn't need to empty your bowels, basically.

So how does that happen?

- Like when you pee?

- No, I know what happens when you pee in a pool.

How is it that your bowels,

that you ended up going 10 hours without needing to.

- Because so much of your blood flow is in your arms,

and your legs, keeping them mobile,

there's not enough blood in your stomach,

in your digestive system, to push anything through.

And because you are fueling on liquids already,

it wants to come out as a liquid.

- Why then, does this happen

to long distance marathon runners,

where often, their bowels release at the end?

- Gravity.

- Oooooh, gravity. Interesting.

- Don't have gravity, swimming.

- Okay, how did the water taste?

It was quite dirty as everybody could tell.

- Taste like a lake. Taste like a lake with a bunch of dirt.

- Yeah. Cause it's a clay bottom.

That's why the water looks that way,

the red river in Winnipeg has a clay bottom.

- Jacque and I, we both looked blue after,

as a combination of being really cold and actually blue.

But also, having, like gray clay in our face.

- Mhmm. Don't have any other good questions.

Anything else you'd want me to ask you?

(mumbles)

They were asking about wet suit stuff.

- Chafing on the wetsuit happened there,

and I think back there.

- Yeah, no, you've got one little.

- Oh, that's actually not too bad. Oh and here.

- Oh yeah. Right there. Ooh, it's quite eh.

- Did you chafe? Yep. How do you deal with it?

Lots of BodyGlide and just accept that it's gonna happen.

- Well yeah, they BodyGlid?

- BodyGlid.

- Glid up quite substantially before they got in the water,

just running those. - Oh yeah.

- People were asking about your next big adventure,

you talked prior to the race about it usually

being about a three year cycle,

that you're not gonna want to do anything

this painful for another three years.

You guys have joked about like a long bike ride

to a really far off location in the province,

but what, actually, would you wanna do for a next,

for an encore?

- The absolute next thing I wanna do is a half IronMan,

just get back to being a triathlete,

maybe end of October, beginning of November?

And next big thing, I don't know.

It actually does not seem like

it's gonna be three years away.

- What is that supposed to mean?

- That means that I'm actually kinda feeling very empowered,

and motivated to do something sooner

than three years from now.

- We're gonna have to have a chat about that.

- That's a good place to end it!

Hopefully I'm here tomorrow

for another edition of Triathlon Taren.

Thanks, Trainiacs, and thank you, N. T. K..

- Bye.

Let's Talk About VidCon - theJunieBird - Duration: 11:38.

Hey folks, welcome to my channel theJunieBird, where I encourage people to do

and go after the things that they love unapologetically. I'm trying the branding

and the stuff at the beginning, we'll see how that goes.

I feel like something is happening outside and I'm not entirely sure what it is.

I don't have a script for this video, whatsoever, because I was- I didn't know I

was going to have this time to film something, didn't realize it, so I didn't

plan ahead. But I want to seize an opportunity to make a video and talk to

you guys and also do just a little bit of a debrief on why I haven't made a

video in a couple weeks and how VidCon was for me. Yeah! June in general has

just been a really strange month for me and I feel like I'll look at a calendar

at the beginning of the week, and I'll be like, 'awesome I have nothing going on this

week, I can focus on YouTube, or I can focus on like this other project that I

want to get done', and then by the end of Monday I have like a really solid plan

for something that I need to do every day for the rest of the week so it's

it's been a really odd month and that was like heightened by VidCon. I went to

VidCon this year, I've been to VidCon four years in a row now and while I was

there during the women online discussion - which I'll get to more of in a minute - I

just went ahead and purchased my ticket for VidCon 2018, so we're

definitely going to be going a five years strong. VidCon this year was different

for me that it has been in previous years, but to be honest I'm not entirely sure why.

The first year I was at VidCon I was just there to learn and hopefully to

meet people. The second year was like, more learning, but the ability to use

that [information] in a more concrete way because I had already established this channel.

Last year was making really good friends, meeting people in person for the first

time and learning, but more networking and figuring out who my friends were and

how to make friends in person and on YouTube as a platform.

This year it felt like VidCon was much more for networking and hanging out with

friends than anything else. It was kind of a whirlwind of a weekend and there

are parts of it that were like just absolutely insane. And I just. I don't

even know like how i- what to think of them- or how to... wrap my brain around

them. Like the women online discussion and Kathy Trithardt and I made a video

and we talked about it- we talked about a couple things, in video format. One of

them is already up on her channel, because she's amazing and really really

fast with editing. The one that we filmed for my channel is still living on my

phone, which is a really dangerous place for it to be right now, so like I need to

figure that out. ASAP but the women online

discussion was - and whether you were there or whether you just like heard

about it from the internet - it was just a really intense and uncomfortable place

to exist. And one of the things that has always

been VidCon for me is getting a chance to meet with other Creators and bond

over the things that we have in common and part of having discussions with

women on the Internet is the- you realize the- kind of the like oh, you've

experienced this type of harassment use experienced like, people saying these kind

of things to you, I have too, let's talk about that. And usually VidCon is a

really safe place to do that and have those discussions and to be encouraged

by other women on the internet, but the women online discussion in particular

was not a safe place to do that, and... it's not the conference's fault but it's also

something that, if their goal was to create that safe place, then they could

have done a better job of facilitating it. So, yeah.

In previous years, I've taken pages and pages worth of notes on panels and

things that I think are going to be good to remember and good to know more about

and research on. I didn't take any notes at any panel this year and there were

panels where I kind of felt like I should have been taking notes, I'm just

like, 'oh this is like this is really good information I'm going to want to have

this later' but I just I didn't and I don't really know why. I went in to

VidCon this year saying that I felt like it was going to be the VidCon

experience I always wanted VidCon to be, if that's the sentence that makes sense

and I think it is. In a lot of ways it was. I was staying at this house with a

bunch of my best online friends, which was incredible. I got a chance to

collaborate and make videos with a handful of people that I'm really

excited to see the outcomes of, but it was also really different in that it

felt like it finally evened out. VidCon has always been something that was exciting

or new in whatever way it was that year, but this VidCon felt just normal I got a

chance to build relationships with people that I already knew and that was

so important and so wonderful and I also got a chance to

establish myself and what I want to be doing in a community that I'm sort of

only starting to feel like I'm a part of.

Sometimes it's helpful for me to think of things in terms of what I put into

them is what I'm going to receive in response, and that feels very true with

my experience at VidCon this year. In previous years, and not just at VidCon

but throughout the year, I have put time and dedication - sporadic though it might

be - into YouTube and my channel my brand, and I'm starting to see the return on

that. I'm seeing where I fit into the larger community and I'm finally feeling

like I'm actually ready to step into that, and that's a good feeling.

In previous years I've come off of VidCon wanting to like rededicate myself

to the art of video making, but this year I just feel like I want to continue

building what I already have. It's nice to feel like I've established enough

that I don't need to go in and re-establish everything again, but it's

also intimidating to not feel this sudden rush of inspiration that I've in

a lot of ways depended on in previous years.

I'm still excited to be a part of the YouTube community, but I'm not that much

more excited because of VidCon. I'm starting to try and think beyond just

this one platform, and honestly I'm just as excited to be home in LA, even in 102

degree heat. I like my apartment. I like my physical community here in Los

Angeles, and even though I've shut myself away for like two days to recover and

like re-remember how to be a human after VidCon, I'm excited to see my friends and

to go back to my normal life again. Thank you so much for watching, I hope you get

a chance to do something that you love today...

How was your VidCon?

Or if not VidCon, how has your month been? Thanks guys, I'll

see you next time.
