Do most wines improve with age?

Most wines are made to be drunk within one to three years after being bottled.

Many people believe that you can keep wine for many years and that it will get better with time.

This is not so.

Here I have a white wine, called Don David Torrontes...

...the year is 2016 and it is from Argentina.

Now is the ideal time to drink this wine...

...but you could keep it for two more years.

Another wine I have here is a French wine...

...called Mas de Daumas Gassac from 2012

This is more expensive wine...

...you could drink it now but this particular wine will last and develop over time.

Finally, a classic Spanish wine, Paternina Gran Reserva from Rioja 1982 a wine with many years of ageing.

Wines of this age are rare and given its age should be drunk in the near future.
