How Superbugs Could Create a Post-Antibiotic World | Let's Talk | NPR - Duration: 2:52.
A woman in Nevada dies from a bacterial infection that was resistant to 26 different antibiotics.
A U.K. patient contracts a case of multidrug-resistant gonorrhea never seen before.
A typhoid superbug kills hundreds in Pakistan.
These stories from recent years — and many others — raise fears about the possibility
of a post-antibiotic world.
The development of antibiotics in the early 20th century was one of the greatest leaps
forward of modern medicine.
Suddenly, common illnesses like pneumonia, strep throat and gonorrhea were no longer
potential death sentences.
But even in antibiotics' infancy, it was clear that their misuse and overuse could
lead to antibiotic resistance and eventually create untreatable superbugs.
[clip] "The doctor knows that if he uses an antibiotic when it really isn't called
for, he may sensitize you so that some future time when you have a really serious infection
calling for an antibiotic, it wouldn't be possible to use it."
Here's how that works.
Superbugs are the product of simple, microscopic Darwinism: the survival of the fittest.
You've got a colony of bacteria, and you flood them with antibiotics.
Most of the bacteria die, but there's a tiny, tiny chance that a few of them survive.
And if you repeat this process with a new antibiotic, those few survivors would now
be resistant to two antibiotics.
Survive.
Multiply.
Repeat.
That's how a superbug is born.
To prevent superbugs, public health officials have pushed for decades for restraint in the
use of antibiotics.
But despite their best efforts, antibiotic use and resistance have boomed.
In fact, over the last 15 years, antibiotic consumption rose 79 percent in China, 65 percent
in Pakistan, and doubled in India.
Easier access to antibiotics is, without a doubt, a huge benefit to millions of people.
But as antibiotic use continues to spread, the risk of superbugs rises, especially in
places with overcrowded urban areas or poor sanitation or cultures of overprescription.
And it doesn't matter whether a superbug emerges in Washington, D.C., or Mumbai.
If something isn't done to either come up with new, better antibiotics or to stop misusing
the ones we currently have, scientists say we could be heading to a post-antibiotic world
… one very similar to the 1800s when bacterial infections were routinely deadly.

5D Diamond Painting -- How I prepare for a new Project - Duration: 8:21.
okay so basically what I'm doing right now is I'm actually just going to go
through each of the packets to make sure that I've got everything that I need
there so I've got a Sharpie which I'm going to write onto the top of this and
just a little bit of nail polish remover will remove that when I'm finished
working with this particular diamond painting so I'm just gonna grab my
pencil and I'm gonna start just looking for the numbers and then I will make
sure that I have got what I'm supposed to have so this is three eight three
five and yes there is only one of them
okay so in this pack here you can see here that it's three eight six five and
it says it has 49 okay so what they've done is enlarged the packet and then
they've put a number five on that so can you you can just make that out the
number five so this little pack here equates to being five of these little
packets okay so basically this I've got nine of those day so nine fives are
forty-five and then I've got another four packets here which make forty-nine
so if there is definitely 49 packets there so just be aware of that so if you
do you get that on on some of your iron paintings and it's not just limited to
this company I've actually seen it come from
companies from wish and from Aliexpress and all those sort of places so just be
aware of that that sometimes I'll have it written like that and there'll be an
extra number on your pocket
so they're all there so now I can start marking them out and what I do to make
it easier for my selection when I'm working away
I actually number each one one to two whatever it ends to so this one I will
just put beside the little symbol a one and two three four and five and continue
on between each one and then basically I also put a one so then I'll number these
as well as having the code that I'm looking for as well um the color code
so there's 15 numbers all up so basically all and it just can all be
rubbed off so I make sure that all my little pots are up the right way and
I'll just put one and then
so I've got full 15 colors all up so I've numbered 1 to 15 and now I can go
through and wait for that to dry a little bit and then I can go through and
put the color codes through and when I'm using them I just put them back into
that and then it just makes it easy I just get a little bit of nail polish
remover or white board cleaner or something along those lines and it'll
actually get rid of it for you say and then I can reuse them for another
project
and that's it and now I can start actually opening up each one I can find
the package that I'm looking for and I just opened that up and then I just tip
the little diamond drills in there and this is what I do to prep for each
project
so as you can see this one is now full and I do have several more that I've got
to put in there so I've got some other jars that are a little bit bigger if
there's only a couple of jars I'll just write another one of these up but
because there's a few of this one I actually get my bigger jars just over
here and I'll just put the remainder in these ones over here and I'll write what
that is on top so it's 9:00 exactly what I've got written on that one and it's
963 and then I can fill that up and then when I run out of this one I can just
top it up
and then that one I can just sit aside and then I've got it there to top this
one back up
okay so you can see there that's what I do that's how I prep and then they're
all ready to go and I have all my tools and everything as well I generally just
leave these empty ones in there just keeps it neat and tidy but yeah that's
how I prep get to get ready to do my project I hope you liked this little
insight to how I prepare for my diamond paintings and I'll see you again next
time my name is Nicole rege for divinely designed studio bye for now
you

How to make a village toy "keta thirikkale " - Duration: 6:37.
Ever wondered about being a child of 1990s and earlier decades in Sri Lanka
Back in the day, every kid had to build their stuff to play with friends using pieces of wood and other natural things.
This is about building a favorite toy called "Keta Thirikkale."
For the first step, our little one takes two coconuts for the wheels.
He removes the coconut husks using a sharp metal bar
It has been a standard way of removing coconut husks back in the day
Our little one takes his time to refine the emptied coconut shelves further using a knife
He takes his time to enlarge the openings that will be a used for the wooden bar that holds them as wheels
Time to refine the wooden bar that will hold both coconut shelves as tires
He takes his time to join the coconut shell tires with the wooden bar
With a nail to seal its place from moving out
Then he nails the main bar with a loose grip that will allow it to be flexible
then comes the final wooden bar that acts as the handle that allows him to steer the Keta Thirikkale
With two ropes or equivalent material to lock their movements together
For the steering controls to work flawlessly and efficiently
There you have it, The Keta Thirikkale

FEAR is really False Evidence Appearing Real ~ How to Overcome Fear & Reach Your Goals - Duration: 5:02.
Hello my name is Carmen Payne and I am the owner and creator of SOAR!
Transformational Life Coaching, and welcome to this episode of "Carmen's
Coaching Corner", and the topic for this episode is fear. We've been watching a
lot in the news lately unfortunately about terrorist attacks, mass shootings,
mother nature, it at you know, at her best creating hurricanes, and things like that,
and people losing their homes. And just terrible, terrible, things in the news, and
it's often times when we have an experience where we're faced with our
own mortality, or something that's life-changing like that where we
suddenly become fearless and are ready to take radical action towards the goals
and the future vision that we had for ourselves that previously that we were
putting on our back burner. And I want to share with you a process today to help
you overcome those fear based thoughts that are currently holding you back, so
that you don't have to experience something like that in order for you to
step into your power and go for your future vision your goals that you want
to achieve. Now the reason that we have these fear-based thoughts is because
it's our ego typically trying to protect us. It doesn't like change, it doesn't
like it when you're trying to get out of your comfort zone and go do something
new. It will help to create these thoughts which are false evidence
appearing real. That's all those fear-based thoughts are and you need to
help your ego understand what your new future vision, and your goals are in
order for that for your ego to help you rather than hinder you and hold you back.
Now how do you do that? So, whenever youcatch yourself having a fear-based
thought of false evidence appearing real thought and that may sound like, "I'm not
worthy". "I'm not ready, I need to take more classes." "I need to read more books." "I
don't have the time." "I don't have the money." "I'm afraid to make that phone call."
"I'm afraid to send that email". Whenever those thoughts catch, come up, catch it
and thank your ego for its concern just simply thank your ego for its
concern, and about those fears then explain to your ego ego what is your
vision, what is your goal that you're trying to achieve, why you want to
achieve this goal, or this vision, and how does that goal, or vision make you feel.
You're basically bringing your ego into the team. Right? You're bringing them on
board and you're trying to sooth this energy, and explain to their ego, what is
it you want, why you want it, and how it makes you feel. Next once you've done
that ask your ego for help. Ask it to help you. "How can you help me achieve
these goals and visions". And I know this sounds really weird, but it's important
that you help your ego come onboard with what you want to do. What your your soul
wants to do, what you, you know, what youyou as your Divine self wants to do
going forward before you can really take any step forward without, and being
alignment with your ego. And then lastly when you've had asked your ego for help
write down the next steps towards achieving that vision, or that goal, and
then commit to a date and time in order to do that. Okay? Please don't wait for
something drastic to happen in your life to help you reach that tipping point and
that actually gives you the balls to move yourself forward. Okay? Become fearless now. Bring
your ego onboard and ask it to help you. So to recap when you catch yourself
having a fear-based Thoughts -False Evidence Appearing Real thought
recognize it, thank your ego for its concern, explain to your ego
what is your vision, and your goal, why you want it, and how it makes you feel.
Then ask your ego to help you with those goals, and those visions. Write down those
steps, and commit to a date and time but when you're going to complete those
steps that take you forward towards your goal. If you have any ideas that you
would also use to help overcome those fear based thoughts please please share.
We all grow and learn together and if you use this process, and you found it
helpful please add a comment on the video, and share this video to somebody
that you might know that might need this advice ok, this coaching. And if you have
any ideas, or you would like to receive coaching please email me at Soar.Tlc@Gmail.com
And as always in love and light to your transformation, Carmen. To
get started please call, or email me, or schedule an appointment on my website.

How to live with the blues - Duration: 5:12.
Its natural surroundings remain untouched... a modern home nestled in a Lithuanian pine
forest - that was built as a tribute to the blues.
"Hello, I'm Aidas.
This is my wife, Ingrída.
Nice to meet you and welcome to my blues house."
Aidas Kalinauskas, an architect, has lived here with his family since 2014.
The woods aren't far from the city of Kuanas, but far enough to blast the blues as loud
as they want, anytime they want.
It's a house full of passion:
"For the blues, romance and taking it easy.
This isn't just my blues music.
Little by little, my wife has grown accustomed to listening to the blues every day.
I've taught her about it.
It's very important to us."
That's apparent throughout the 170-square-meter house.
Its design is inspired by the music genre.
Even the kitchen island is embellished with old vinyl records.
The center of the house is an open living area spread across several floors.
"This is the center, the heart of the home.
It's the room where we hang out together.
We listen to music, watch TV or work in the upper area.
It was designed for good acoustics.
That's what the acoustic ceiling construction and paneling are for."
The sound is as clear as it would be in a concert hall.
The integrated sound panels round off the aesthetics and ensure optimal acoustics without
interference.
True to the open plan design, music accompanies every family member as they go about their
business, including when their son, Ignas, visits.
The musical atmosphere is controlled from a single sound station.
"So here is this central music station where we can choose which room we want music to
play and by pressing one or the other button we can turn on and off music in sauna, in
the terrace or in the living room."
Speakers are integrated in groups throughout the house.
So the bathroom and bedroom, for example, are a single unit -- acoustically speaking.
"We spend most of the day with music.
That's no exception in this room.
As you can see, we have speakers and music equipment.
We end the day with music, of course with something slightly more relaxing.
But music sends us off to sleep."
The family spent many years in the city.
But they were looking for a place where they could relax in tranquility and listen to the
blues undisturbed.
Once they found the land, the main question was: How do you create a house that fits into
its natural surroundings, and differs from the building style typical of the area, but
also pays homage to the blues?
"I've always listened to the blues.
Even before the house was built, I'd come here regularly, and the sound from the car
radio felt really special here.
The combination of birdsong and the blues fit really well together.
Then we took a family vacation by the sea, listening to lots of blues music, and suddenly
the idea came to me.
I drew an outline of the house in the sand."
Their son Ignas is also an architect.
He and his father drew up plans on the computer before creating a 3D model.
This kitchen island that swings out to the terrace was Aidas' idea.
It bridges the home's interior with the exterior, which is also connected to music.
"It's a place where you connect with nature and the building itself.
In our architectural philosophy we talk about it a lot, about this emotional connection
that form between people and buildings and this is the place for me where I really can
sit and merge with the surroundings, with natural materials, with music playing from
the house, birds singing at the same time."
"Blues is really authentic music."
Every night in the forest near Kuanas they're singing the blues -- inside and out.

HOW TO EDIT LIKE A PRO! ll USING VSCO - Duration: 5:08.
hello guys welcome back to my channel its luanna and today I'm gonna be
teaching you guys how I edit my pictures finally this has been such a requested
video for me to do because people really love how I do the highlights on pictures
and how I really bring the vibrancy in to them and how I make them grainy and
looks so much nicer than they are before they're edited
so today we're gonna be using Picsart and vsco to edit these pictures so since I
couldn't find the other is we're going to do this one um this is not the edited
one and it's you know an average picture this is the edited so this is gonna be
the result okay so we're gonna open Picsart and we're gonna click on the
whitening tool so when you go to the whitening tool basically what you're
gonna want to do is like fix the settings because usually the settings
are way too high up and you want a subtle highlight so I'm gonna start
highlighting my nose area and also highlighting my glasses and eyes the
pupils of my eyes are gonna stay intact but the whites of my eyes are gonna get
this nice pop I'm also gonna put some of it on my eye shadow so um when I'm
fulfilled with the teeth whitening tool I'm going to click on the skin tool I
think that's what it's called or something like that skin tone and I'm
gonna highlight basically make my forehead the center of my forehead
really white like so then I'm gonna go back to the skin tool and then take a
darker shade and kind of contour my face with it
okay so then I'm gonna go back to the skin tone and I'm gonna go with a white
shade again and I'm gonna go and also continue to highlight my nose and my
eyes and also you gotta fix a little bit the settings because it was too harsh
and I wasn't you know digging it
I'm gonna also highlight a little bit of my Cupid's bow on my lip and you know I
feel really satisfied with it so I'm just gonna save it and now I'm going to
go to vsco I really love this app it's my favorite thing I edit all my pictures
with it so once you reach the filters you're going to click on c1 and you're
gonna adjust it to the level of like a 6.4 or I don't know like just not so
harsh so I left it at 5.3 my exposure is gonna go down or maybe up right I don't
even know at this point I'm just gonna let you guys watch
so I get a lot of questions about highlights like what does it do and I
think it just makes your face look more crisper and that's even a word um
oh and this is grain so this is my favorite part as you can see like that's
the highest it can go and that's like the lowest I usually go for like a two
and then that's basically all I do for editing so now I'm just gonna save the
picture and I'm gonna show you the before and after
so this is the before and this is the after as you can see there's like a
clear difference

Germany out of World Cup: How shock exit could HELP England - Duration: 2:09.
Germany were stunned 2-0 by South Korea today to exit the World Cup in Russia. The champions from 2014 saw their title defence dissolve over three group games where they claimed just three points
And Joachim Lowe's side's terrible performance could have an impact of England's progression in the tournament
That's because the Three Lions were on course to meet Germany in the quarter-finals of the competition! Had Germany won today they could have taken Mexico's place in second in Group F
It would have meant the Germans heading into what will be England's side of the knockout draw, if England beat Belgium on Thursday night
England boss Gareth Southgate was no doubt sweating over a potential quarter-final with the Germans
England have not played Germany in a competitive match since the 2010 World Cup, where they were knocked out in the last-16 via a 4-1 defeat
England may have beaten West Germany in the 1996 World Cup final but their record at major tournaments since has been dreadful
They were knocked out on penalties to the Germans in both World Cup '90 and Euro '96
West Germany also beat England 3-2 in the 1970 World Cup, while they recored a 0-0 draw in 1982 that eventually saw the Three Lions exit the second group stage
Instead of Germany, England could face Mexico in the quarter-finals. However, they must first beat Belgium and then get past whoever finishes second in Group H, which will be a battle between Senegal, Colombia and Poland

How To Get a Job In Esports? 10 Stupid Questions for the CEO - Duration: 6:46.
These are just nice bonuses.
We drink booze.
But not always.
But we really want to.
This is a job that requires knowledge in many areas,
meaning I need to be good at management, marketing, finance
and also understand the games the rosters play.
So there is no answer as to what you need to study or which university or college you should choose,
there's no place you could just go and become a CEO,
you just need to develop in many different directions
and try to understand all the details.
I wish.
Nope.
Unfortunately, I'm not.
- Who is then? - Someone further up the food chain.
I wish I was sometimes.
But actually my decision is just the result of a collaborative effort.
if I were to kick the players,
or whoever I wanted to kick,
then it would be very difficult for the team
to feel as a team in the first place,
a team is five or six people,
if there's a coach and seven, if there's an analyst,
and they need to decide it between them,
because they know all these details better,
and for me to be able to make decisions about kicking someone,
I'd have to be there with them during practice all the time and listen to everything,
which would take about 10 hours per day,
and I wouldn't be able to do anything else as there definitely wouldn't be enough time for all of that.
There are other ways.
But it's better when a person knows and understands and learns what he likes,
and in general here, in esports,
it's very important that a person be into what they are doing,
enthusiasm,
that they like it,
I think it's not only about esports but about everything in general,
because if someone doesn't like what they are doing,
they burn out sooner or later,
and both efficiency of this work
and their career progression
get worse and harder to achieve.
- How can one join our organization?
You can email me at kucherov.aleksey@hellraisers.pro
And then we'll see.
I rage sometimes,
they rage themselves too,
but I calm down and understand that I could've been wrong sometimes.
Let's not talk about it.
Well, actually, I used to have..
about half a year ago or more,
I played on FACEIT,
I had a seven or even an eight,
but it was like two-three games per week.
But now I simply have no time to game,
especially considering I'm also an analyst at Starladder, with petr1k.
and it all makes it very difficult to just make time to play, although I really want to.
You need to work on yourself a lot,
and I think it's not only about quantity but also quality,
you need to analyze your mistakes and think about all of that,
you shouldn't just play, you should think how to get better,
you should watch pro teams play to see what they do to be professionals and achieve good results.
And then maybe you'll make it to some organization,
or a team.
It's gradual progress, you know.
You can't just start playing and make it to HellRaisers right away,
you need to make it through many stages,
make a team, be the best on it,
then switch to a team that's even better,
and this is how you gradually progress.
No, there's no such thing,
we talk to each other when there are some global matters to discuss
or if there are some questions you need to check with a colleague,
but there's no some secret chat.
- How do reshuffles happen then?
- Do you just call and say "hello"?
Yeah, sometimes this is how it is.
"Hello, I want your player. How much will this be?"
Whenever possible.
The players practice for 10 hours per day,
I also work 10 hours per day,
and our schedules usually don't coincide.
So, there isn't much time to spend together,
but even considering that the schedule of tournaments is getting even more tight,
but whenever it's possible we spend some time together,
we try to maintain not only business relations but also friendly ones.
- How do you spend time together?
We drink booze.
Yeah.
But not always.
I think this сan help.
This can definitely help
because staff changes become more efficient,
and it gets easier to find a replacement,
this is really a good thing if you understand the games,
for example, if (theoretically) I need to find a team for League of Legends,
then it is harder for me to make a decision by myself,
I'll need to get opinions of 5-10 people who know this discipline much better than I do.
If it's about CS:GO though,
then in most cases I can make some good and efficient decisions,
and then talk to the coach and the IGL
and come to a general consensus.
So, it's much better if you understand it all.

How To Dress Like a Suffragette - Duration: 3:09.
So, today I'm going to show you how to make a Suffragette costume.
*dubstep music*
So the reason I'm making a costume video on
this comedy channel is because I just put out a sketch about suffragettes in modern
day.
And while we were getting ready for that sketch, I did a lot of research about suffragettes
and the costume and the details that go into that and I wanted to share it with you just
in case you wanted to make a costume or become a suffragette yourself.
The suffragettes married radical ideas with willfully conventional dress.
They really took care to appeal to the eye, especially when they were in the media, when
they were demonstrating, when they were on parade.
People were so scathing towards suffragettes.
They called them not women, not feminine.
That the suffragettes wanted to just combat that with wearing their finest clothes and
looking as feminine and as presentable as possible.
The traveling champion of the women's rights movement, Susan B. Anthony, was recognized
by two trademarks: her red shawl and her alligator purse.
We found a large red scarf to double as a shawl at Goodwill for our Susan.
The purse was not a fashion statement.
The "purse of her own" became the symbol of a woman's financial independence.
There were a multitude of hairstyles in the 70 year long Victorian period.
We opted for a simple middle part pulled back over the ears and gathered into a low bun.
There were 3 styles of shoes worn by women … the boot, clog and slipper all characterized
by pointy toes and an angled block heel.
Let's talk about hats, baby.
Let's talk about you and me.
Let's talk about hats!
They were often trimmed with frills, flowers, feathers and ribbons.
The skirts back then ran the gamut from floor length and full with a petticoat to ankle
length and A-line.
And onto the gloves!
Don't leave home without them!
A glove was an object of luxury, elegance and refinement which made them a frequent
fashion accessory.
We found all the blouses at Goodwill.
Old, button-down, work blouses can have a vintage vibe if they have a high collar with
ruffles.
On Etsy, we found these amazing skirts.
And we also found the two Votes for Women sashes.
The only thing we ordered from Amazon were these full length tulle petticoats to give
fullness to the skirts.
The costumes used in the HoweFunny sketch are inspired by women in the Victorian era
in America.
Now, we played fast and loose with rules of the costumes because we didn't have a lot
of time to thrift and we did not have a lot of money.
But we generally used the time period 1880-1920.
We were able to piece together three outfits using thrift stores, vintage stores, and ordering
key items from Amazon and Etsy.
I've linked all of those down below if you're interested.
They're down there.
If you want to see the comedy sketch that inspired this one about suffragettes in modern
